hello everyone and welcome back to the amazing rewatch this is jessica and sadie and we are covering season 16 episode 7 today so this is our first episode back for our second half of season 16 welcome back and yeah it's been ah good season and this is a pretty good episode this episode has like yeah all the things i did like this one like there wasn't any airport drama yeah but it had all the other things yeah So we have the team's last episode were in France and ah the last episode there was issues with

And the clue says fly 5,000 miles to the Seychelles, a chain of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean. Due to its remotest its remote location, teens will be traveling on the same flight.

When they land on the island of Mahe, Is that how you say it? Oh, yeah. They will have to search for this kiosk where they'll grab a number and their next clue.

So the next team to depart are Carolyn Brandy at 128. So that was a whole hour later. and Allie at 157. Jet and Cord at 236. Dan and Jordan at 336. And Brendan and Katie at 436. I thought that was interesting. I was like, did I get all of those right? Yeah.

All at 36. Like an hour apart. Four hours from the first to the last team. But it doesn't matter because all the teams are on the same flight.

So when they're at the airport, though, um the Cowboys and michael and Michael and Louie talk about like going to get something to eat. And the other teams start like kind of like checking in for the flight and trying to pick their seats and get the seats closest to the front of the plane as possible.

um So like Brent and Katie, I think, get row seven and Carol and Brandy talk to like somebody at the desk and they're in row 25 and they're like, oh, that might be an error not being closer to the front of the plane.

And one of them was like, oh, it's fine, you know? Yeah. But it is not fine. Yeah.
Arrival and Initial Challenges

Because... Because when they land, it's just like an outdoor plane and they just like walk straight off the plane and like over to this kiosk. Yeah.

It's not... And we know that if they are... Having to look i poll take pull tabs and pull numbers, then it's like going to a big time difference. There's a reason. Yeah, there's like a time. Yeah.

So what they do, well, Brent and Katie and Stephen Alley and Dan and Jordan were three of the teams that all got seats pretty close to the front of the plane.

Get off first, they choose they get the tabs for one, two, and three. The clue says the first three teams will travel by helicopter to Lidige.

think Lidige. Lidige. Which is another island. The last three teams will be an hour behind.
Detour: Turtle Toddle vs. Ox Trot

made it sound like they're all going to be on one helicopter.

But they're all in separate helicopters. So like leaving... So Brent and Katie leave, and then like two minutes later, Allie, and then two minutes later, Dan and Jordan. But then those same helicopters have to drop those che three teams off and then come back and pick up the next three teams. So they're an hour later.

Yeah. so those last three teams are sharding pretty far behind. And the first helicopter with Brent and Katie land And the clue is a detour. And the choices are turtle, toddle, or ox trot.

Yeah. The, uh, Evie and Cece were watching the episode with me kind of. And they were both trying to say turtle, toddle. And they were, they're like, that's really hard to say Turtle, toddle. Turtle, toddle.

Yeah. Turtle, toddle. So turtle, toddle is they have to use a banana to lure a giant tortoise who's over a hundred years old and weighing over 500 pounds across the lawn.

Then each team member will pick up a bunch of bananas and carry them a mile and a half to the harbor and deliver them to the fruit merchant. An ox trot is take a cart to a clearing and fill the cart up with coconuts without losing any cargo.

Then an ox handler will attach an ox to the cart and lead the teams to deliver their cargo to the harbor at the same fruit merchant, I think. Yeah. so this one would be hard because they both take, ah like with animals. They're both animals and both like a physical task. Yeah.

So it'd be hard to decide in the moment which one to pick. Yeah. I think that I would probably lean towards the turtle. Yeah. Myself. Yeah.

When it says like. or oxen. They just seem like they could be stubborn. Yeah, and I don't know if the clue makes this like such a big, points this out in such a big way, but it's like um they cannot lose a coconut or they have to go back and get it or something like that.

And that's like a big deal. Yeah. and the coconut carts are not very like, there's big gaps in the boards. they're enclosed. Yeah.

Anyways, so Brent and Katie choose Ox Trot. And then Steve and Allie choose Turtle Tottle. And Dan and Jordan choose Ox Trot. Steve and Allie said, let's just like the story of the tortoise beat the hare. Yeah, slow and steady.

And then he said, I never met an ox I could trust. yeah and so these first three teams are kind of getting started on their detours.

As Brent and Katie are throwing in their coconuts, one of them bounces out of the top and kind of rolls over on the grass a little ways away and they don't notice it.

And they get in there on the cart and start walking their ox and leave it. Their ox is broken. Yeah. Just kidding. Well, theirs is probably like the most difficult ox of all of them. it's like, dun-dun-dun.

There's a coconut. I cannot believe because they're not the only ones that do this. Yeah. I cannot believe how many teams left that place without. I know. Looking around that cart. Yeah. Every like 10 feet around it to make sure that they didn't drop any.

Yeah. and during this time as well, like the ox is kind of having a hard time. Anyways, Brent and Katie are calling each other dummies And she's like, you're a freaking idiot. And he's like, you're a freaking idiot.

And talking to each other that way. And I don't like that. um Steve and Allie finished because the tortoise one has two parts. You have to have the tortoise follow you all the way down the track, leading them like with a banana. And then you have to grab that bundle of bananas and go a mile and a half to the fruit merchant so they finished the tortoise part pretty quickly grabbed the bananas head towards this uh fruit merchant and as they're like having these big banana bundles on their backs you see their backpacks still sitting there by the by the tortoise tortoise and that's not good either no and then dad and jordy get their coconuts loaded and they have all of them which is good

And then the last three teams start landing. So Louie and Michael choose Oxtrot. Carol and Brandy choose Turtle Tuttle. And Jet and Core choose Oxtrot.

So. so when Brandy and Carol get to the tortoises, they see Steve and Allie's backpack still sitting there. And they're like, oh, that's weird. And then um this is where Steve and Allie are done with their task and they get the clue and it says to take a boat to the waters off saint pierre island where the boat captain will give you the next clue and i can't tell personally if they realize that they don't have their backpacks or if they left them there on purpose thinking that they were going to come back to them

Yeah, I don't know because... Like, did they forget just because they were worried about the bananas or did they do it on purpose? i It's unclear. I think that they kind of just didn't realize that they should be taking them. But if you're being told to go to another island, you should take them.

Yeah. So they they thought they would have to come back after they dropped off the bananas. Yeah. Yeah. So they have to kind of swim out a little bit of ways to get on that boat that they are told that they're going to go to this other island.

And as they're getting on the boat there, Dan and Jordan are, they've just finished their detour and they've got the clue and they're heading towards the boat, but they have their backpacks on. And they're like, why do they have their backpacks?

Is what they say. Did you hear him say that? um yes i do remember that why do they have their backpacks so does sound like they left it on purpose and so steve was like well he pulls out his fanny pack which was very smart yeah he says we have all our passports and money in this fanny pack which he had the whole time what do we do and they're trying to decide like what to do yeah see he was like i i can do without my backpack and he he's like i don't know if i can Yeah, but she eventually decides that she would rather continue racing instead of going back for the backpacks.

That would be a hard choice. Yes, because they're not that – they still have quite a ways left of the season. Yeah. it Because obviously we're only halfway through. Yeah. And that'd be really hard.

What if they're going to like a frozen place? Yeah. Yeah. But they decide to continue and they go to that island. um When Brent and Katie get to the end of the place with the aux, aux, because obviously dan and Jordan finished quicker. Their aux passed Brent and Katie's. It was faster. Yeah.

So, Brent and Katie finish and they get to the guy and he's like, they're like, where's our clue? And he's like, you didn't. It's not enough coconuts. Yeah. You didn't load all the coconuts. And they're like, yes, we did.

We did our whole pile. And he's like, you didn't load enough coconuts. And that's like all he can kind of say. Yeah. He can't give them any more information. That's how the game works. And they're like so mad at him. Yeah. Like him specifically. He's the one that they're mad at for that because they didn't do it right.

And Brent's like, well, I'm whatever.
Roadblock and Race Results

I quit. Whatever. And like throws up his hands. He doesn't actually quit. But they get back on their car and turn around and have to go back and find that coconut.

And they're like, and Katie, the whole time, she's like, this is so unfair. I'm like, no, it's not. You missed a coconut. Yes. She says that a couple times. This is so on unfair.

though He's not doing it to be mean to you specifically. It's just the game. That's the amazing race. And you chose to be on it. So it is not unfair. And is frustrating, but it's not unfair.

Yeah. So when Carol and Brandy are doing their turtle detour, they just picked the wrong turtle and you can't switch turtles. Yeah. And it just doesn't want to go straight and it's turning on a different direction and just really difficult. So they decide to switch detours.

In the meantime, and Ali arrived at that set that next island and it says one team member must find a case of seven submerged bottles.

They have to figure out how to untie them and then bring one of the bottles to the surface. That person and their team member will work together to assemble a map which will lead them on a path to their most valued treasure, the pit stop for this leg of the race.

So Steve does the roadblock. So yeah they're like kind of out in the middle of the water. and below is kind of like a wooden crate. And it has the bottles in it.

And they're kind of tied at the top. And they have to untie them and bring it up. And Phil is sure to say that there's seven bottles.

Right? there's There's six teams. Yeah. Yeah. So it's kind of weird. um And also, fun fact about this episode, this is the first time that Phil has given the clue underwater.

Boat Captain will take them closer to shore and then they have to get out and swim to shore and then assemble the map there on the beach and then and then go find the pit stop. So they do it pretty quickly um and they end up being team number one and it feels like, did you guys notice this today was a and the theme of seven. a theme of seven Other than the seven bottles, what else was seven? I wondered the same thing.

So, yeah, they're like, yeah. Sure. what Whatever you say, Bill. so they won like an Oceanside dinner for them at this point to take.

Like at the hotel. Yeah. And to get massages. And massages and then $7,000 each. All from seven Yeah. And all the 7-Up they could want. Oh, yes. All the 7-Up you can drink.

So that would be nice for them to be able to get refreshed with like a massage and dinner because now they don't have any belongings. ah Yeah. they area your They have to continue without anything. Yeah. It's going to be interesting to see how that goes.

And they're like, I wonder what happened there. The cowboys are doing theirs and they are throwing coconuts in and they get in their cart to drive away and they lost, they left one. and then Carol and Brandy are filling up their cart and they ride away and they've left one as well.

Yeah. And they're just kind of like under. kind of by a tire. but Yeah. When they pulled away, like the cart like went over it. Yeah. I would immediately be like, stop. Yeah. I feel like we just ran over a coconut. Over it. Yes.

And Brett and Katie get back about this time and they find that coconut quickly and get back heading towards the- think when they go back, the guy is like standing there and kind of like pointing to the one that they dropped. Yeah.

None of them seem to have, like, any issues with the coconuts, like, falling out of the car but um yeah who well brent and katie's boat and michael louie michael head out on the boat to that second island a little bit before brent and katie but brent katie's boat was faster so brent does the roadblock and then michael does the roadblock and they're heading back to shore

And Brent and Katie do like the map on the shore and get it pretty quickly. And Brent and Michael and Louie are like right behind them swimming in. But it's taking Louie a lot longer to swim in. Yeah. Because it is pretty far. know. It was quite a ways that they had to swim. He's kind of like doing a backstroke to conserve his energy.

I think once you're there, it's not that bad, but like the flights there are really expensive and like long. Yeah. like The little description that Phil gave was that there was like lots of pirates there and there's like treasure and there's water so people come and try to find it. who 18th century French pirate is said to have hidden his treasure in the Seychelles.

um Reginald Herbert... I don't know who he is, but he spent 27 years searching for this treasure until he died in 1977. And since then, his son, John, has spent over 50 years searching the treasure. It's like national treasure. Yeah.
