00:01:42
Speaker
Got a lot to talk about. Top movies, TV, movie moments that happened this year before we get into the new year, because next year, let's face it, not only is it the year of Superman, the the road to the Fantastic Four, but there are a ton of movies and TV shows that have been delayed for after COVID, after the strikes that are coming out next year, ah Marvel and DC coming up with a bunch of stuff. We're going to talk all about that next next next episode after the new

TV Show Highlights & Critiques

00:02:10
Speaker
year. But this week,
00:02:11
Speaker
We're going to talk about what happened this year. um Lots of good TV. We started off the year with a series from Marvel Echo. I thought it was pretty decent. Ted the series was on Peacock. I thought that was good too. um Final season of Curb. I didn't think it lived up to the ten lived up to the the rest of the show. um But yeah, the finale was pretty good.
00:02:32
Speaker
um Rest in peace, Richard Lewis, by the way. yeah um Halo, another show I loved but ended abruptly this year. um Shameless and Dexter did two binge watches of those shows.
00:02:46
Speaker
um Dexter ducks Dexter was a great choice getting into this year because especially with the origins Yeah, I can't believe that was this year it feels like it was so long ago I know um My adventures with Superman you watch that this year Arrow and smallville. He did binges of all that shit um yeah Superman and Lois as well. He got it. You got caught up on that Dark side of the ring had it and had a season the beginning of the year who killed WCW great series. We watched X-Men 97 another great one fallout We forgot that came out this year to great series um Dead boy detectives, which I loved got canceled
00:03:25
Speaker
RIP to that the roast of Tom Brady was on Netflix live for the first time live live broadcast on Netflix really cool Accolite we were both high on at the beginning of the year ah Kind of ended with a fizzle and then canceled the boys House of Dragon came up this year second season the bear another good season Cobra Kai you watch that baby reindeer another show we don't talk enough about on this on this show on this ah Podcast but is a great fucking show ah You still have not yet to watch it, but it was it was probably one of my favorite shows this yeah this year um Batman Cape Crusader came out this year to the enemy series on Amazon. That was great. Umbrella Academy ended in a whimper shitty season um Rings of Power another show right up there with a House of Dragons same around around the same time two great shows and Agathol along I liked it Marvel um and the penguin left off the year with a great great epic show that we're probably gonna be thinking about for four years to come until We see where the Batman 2 is gonna go.

Documentaries & Noteworthy Films

00:04:25
Speaker
Um Documentaries tons of documentaries this year. I don't think any I don't think 2025 can live up to the amount of documentaries we had this year
00:04:33
Speaker
ah First off we started off with quiet on the set the Nickelodeon documentary um Steve Martin the documentary was great Superman John Williams documentary the Bray Wyatt documentary came out earlier this year Remembering Gene Wilder Beach Boys Jim Henson idea man movie pass movie crash how music got free the net from the Napster um Download music documentary Dirty Pop, the Ron Perlman, not Ron Perlman, I can't remember his name, the Lou Perlman documentary on Netflix, Wise Guy, David Chase, Mr. McMahon, we were high on it, it was great on Netflix, and The Comeback. 2024 was the 20 year anniversary of the Red Sox winning the World Series for the first time in almost 100 years, so. Sure. Did you mention Superman? The documentary? I did, Superman, that was one of the first ones. Yeah, that's probably the best documentary of the year.
00:05:26
Speaker
Between that and John Williams, both were great. Movies, Deadpool and Wolverine. Marvel only had one movie in the theater and it was a great movie. Had some great moments, fan moments, laughed. Both times I've seen it so far in the theater and at home. Dune Part 2. We were five so five pineapple ratings on this show for both of us. We loved that movie.
00:05:49
Speaker
um Ricky Stinecki, another surprise John Cena hit just because of his comedy chops. Makes it makes us look forward to seeing Peacemaker Season 2 and what he's going to do continuing with that role in DC. um Ghostbusters, Frozen Empire, very high on that going into New Year.
00:06:06
Speaker
Was not high on the movie, though. um Civil War, great surprise movie. We loved that. Ministry of Ungentimally Warfare, we both loved that movie. That was a huge surprise. um Rebel Moon, part one and two.
00:06:22
Speaker
there was that challenges challenges a great surprise movie but the biggest surprise i think of this year has got to be Godzilla minus one don't you think it's got it it's got to be up there like we were both like very very high five you saw it this year it came out last year yeah Yeah, I saw it this year. Because it took for it took forever to come out on digitally. But i yeah, great movie.

Film Highlights & Reactions

00:06:45
Speaker
Yeah, great movie. Furiosa was good. I don't think it was as good as the the first one. Fury Road. the lot furry road yeah
00:06:54
Speaker
um late night with the devil i was high on that this year uh boy kills world like that the the bike riders good movie too uh did a quiet place uh uh run watched all those movies and watched the new one day one i thought that was great um eddie murphy returned for axle f returned for bibbly hill's cop thought that was a good movie um the watchers another great movie i liked this year trap uh m night chanelon came back alien romulus one of my favorites this year Twisters, another good one. Rebel Ridge, we were so high on that movie, we were hoping that um What's His Name would be cast as Jon Stewart. I'm sure enough. He was. here yeah he was um The 430 movie, Kevin Smith had a movie that we loved this year. Saturday Night, one of my favorites, probably top four or five movies for this year.
00:07:44
Speaker
Another one my old ass. I loved that the substance you got me to watch that one week and it was a great horror movie Yeah, and then we were in the year of wicked gladiator 2 and wicked we saw in the theater the same day I saw in the same theater same day Both great movies wicked is probably my top movie of the year because I cannot wait for next year to see the second one um First watches this year I watched Roadhouse.

Classics & Future Marvel/DC Plans

00:08:11
Speaker
I watched the Mad Max trilogy. First time I watched Purple Rain.
00:08:15
Speaker
Uh, the toys that made us, you got me to watch that series. It was great on Netflix. Um, you got me also to watch all of the crow sequels, which I was not too happy with, especially once we got into the, you know, the newer one with what's his name, which was not good. Um, euphoria also got me to watch that euphoria was a great show. Um, alien movies got into all of those. Um, the Conjuring franchise during Halloween got into all of those saw one, one through three during Halloween.
00:08:46
Speaker
ah The Haunting of Hill House being introduced to Mike Flanagan's world. That was awesome um Fresh another great movie and True Detective The first season was the only one I watched but it was good news uh p ditty is p ditty parties everywhere this year yeah um ai took over still taking over to now it's gonna be taking over our phones and our computers um did retrospectives on robin williams terminator 2 the crow 1994 is the crow and uh fight club we do the 25th anniversary this year and for comics we broke down supergirl woman of tomorrow for obvious reasons because it's going to be adapted into one of the next dc movies
00:09:29
Speaker
um the long Halloween we tackle the Batman comic book and The crow because we talked about the original crow from 1994 and all the sequels that are shitty um Yeah. ah Speaking of comic books, we're at the end of the year and next year we talked about it. We're going to be doing the year of Superman and we're going to be tackling not only the movies, the TV shows, the legacy of that character, yeah but when we do comic book reviews for the first six months, seven months of the year, we're going to be doing Superman reviews. I've already got the list ready to go. Hopefully one of them is Kingdom Come because... Obviously. Yeah, that'll be the last one. yeah Alex Ross is an amazing artist and this week's comic book
00:10:08
Speaker
Is no exception to that this came out in 1994 called Marvel's Um, art done by Alex Ross. Yep. Um, and written by Kurt Busek, who is one of my favorite writers. Um, he did in my year of super, technically I'll be going on year two of Superman. Um, he did a else world story called secret identity, I believe. And it's fantastic. It's about like a kid that was actually like adopted by a family called Clark and they named him, uh,
00:10:40
Speaker
Yeah, they name him after Superman. Everything is like a joke. It's but it's great. And this book is no exception to anything I've read by him. um Fantastic. Plus, you got the Alex Ross art, which every single frame is like a watercolor painting. Like it's do you have a macular art?
00:10:58
Speaker
Do you have the one with all the stuff in the back with how he creates the artwork for this? He takes life models of humans. Oh, yeah. And he the just like what he does. Yeah, it's amazing. He takes people sitting next door or acting like and and I read that before I read the book. Yeah. If books come with art like that, I usually flip through that a little bit before I go into it because I want to see what was in the artist's mind. He's doing stuff. So.
00:11:19
Speaker
um it was a great ah main character this this is basically a history of marvel comics starting from the nineteen thirty s all the way up until the nineteen seventy s um we'll get into this a little bit here and there but um comic history told through the the eyes of a character named phil just a New York City newspaper photographer, his eyewitness account of strange, unnatural, and unexplained extra x extra extra extraordinary events led by what he calls Marvels, which what we what we would call Marvel Super Heroes. Taking actual Marvel marvelble comic events from the 1930s all the way up to the 1970s, Five Issues, Issue Zero was an introduction to the original human torch.
00:12:05
Speaker
um which we'll get into that in a minute but five issues each one tackles a certain time period in Marvel's history um and what happens is what they're showing you in this comic book or you're showing the street level reaction the pedestrian view of what's happening when all these superheroes are flying around and fighting bad guys throughout New York City um the panic the fear aftermath and destruction taking center stage um And also the cleanup afterwards, what happens when a city is destroyed by a battle with Galakas? They kind of find out in these comic books.
00:12:40
Speaker
um Issues zero through one, like I mentioned, 1939, World War II, the introduction of the human torch, not the one that we know as johnny's Johnny Blaine or Johnny Storm, um but the one that was the robot that was created in 1930s, one of the original Marvel comic characters. um Also, one of the original Marvel marvel comic characters, the Submariner, Namor.
00:13:06
Speaker
Um, this is yeah before, this is before Marvel was Marvel. I can't remember what the hell was the name of Marvel, Marvel back in the day. I can't remember. Uh, timely comics. Timely, yes, timely. that tip my Yeah, it was. It was mine too and just came to me. well thank Thankfully. So it would have bothered me if I didn't think of it. But yeah, it was, it was, it was this time before Marvel became Marvel. It's what they call the golden age.
00:13:29
Speaker
um And it's all about that not only not only that the Golden Age of miracles But it's also showing Captain America's Captain America was part of this as well this before Captain America became frozen in ice This is him in World War two The I mean if you've read the comics, you know, there's a famous comic book cover of Captain America punching Adolf Hitler That was during this time um and shows him in this column in this in this comic book in issue one um in Europe during we World War two propaganda um And you also see name wars war against the human race, which I thought was great depiction seeing seeing Phil's reaction to this because he's a photographer He's taking pictures of New York City when they're attacking. I do have some pictures here I want to show just some great art from this book and That's of course Namor and the human torch fighting on the left side and the one on the right side on the top I think is a great picture of Namor attacking New York City with a big huge flood and you see the human torch flying trying to save the city um And you also see in the bottom right corner. You see all of the superheroes of that time led by Captain America Fighting in World War two going into a not Nazi camp in Germany
00:14:38
Speaker
This is a great issue. Going into issue 2, we jump up 30 years, 20-30 years to the 1960s. If you're if you're and at knowledgeable of comic book history, you know this is when Marvel started. um You got Fantastic fantastic Four, X-Men, and Spider-Man all came out within 62-63.
00:14:59
Speaker
64 that's when Stanley came in and took over and they changed the name name to Marvel Comics um What they consider the Silver Age in America silver silver age of comics um And like I mentioned you see the Avengers the formation of the Avengers in this comic But you also see the X-Men origins and the parallels that we talked about it before the prejudice and civil rights movement at the time That's where Stanley based the X-Men off of so you can kind of get that where these X-Men the heroes are heroes they're humans but the mutants are a little bit different they're humans but they're so so weird and so different than everybody else that you see the prejudice like you saw with the civil rights movement with Martin Luther King back then and they kind of try to put that into um a comic book so issue two tackled that and and tackled Phil
00:15:45
Speaker
And the world's reaction to that going on the like ground level, what was happening happening there as well as the superheroes fighting that issue as well. um issue three we only jump up like a year or so after this and silver surfer brings on a series of extra extraterrestrial events as galactus attacks nyc you see a galactus attacking new york city from the street level you see people looking throughout buildings watching so the galactus come down and attack the city um panic and confusion from civilians watching on feeling of fear and world-ending consequences not sure what the hell what the hell are they doing where are they talking about cause you don't know
00:16:22
Speaker
As a comic book reader, you know the dialogue, but if you're on the ground level, what the fuck are they fighting for? What's happening? Are we dying? Like, you're not sure. you So you get that panic, which is great. and You get that great feel in this comic book. So then you go to issue four, 1970s. Phil, at this point, he's retiring. He's been a photographer for at this point, 40 years. So he's ready to retire, go with his family, retire somewhere, get out of the get out of the business.
00:16:48
Speaker
get out of all Get out of all the action in New York City, superhero fights and bad guys. um and But nineteen seventy s famous for the was famous for Green Goblin and Spider-Man having this big huge battle and Gwen Stacy falls toward death. And we all know that story. But we see it through Phil's eyes and Phil becomes friends friendly with Gwen Stacy in this comic book.
00:17:11
Speaker
And right before he's about to get more information to try to, as we all know that J. Jonah Jameson does not like Spider-Man and is always trying to bad mouth him. So he's trying to kind of get him off the hook. He tried to protect his name because he he knows Spider-Man is a great hero, but he's being brought down unjustfully by J. Jonah in the Daily Bugle. so um He tries to befriend people around him and and and Gwen Stacy's father was supposedly killed by Spider-Man And he's trying to disprove that or disprove that he had any anything to do with that So he goes to his daughter Gwen Stacy and tries to talk to her and right before they have their meeting that's when the Green Goblin steals her and then of course, you know, the rest is history where she falls to her death eventually, but
00:18:00
Speaker
Um, but it changes his perspective on how the world views the wonders of the marvels. This, this book series does a great job depicting how we, if we were a citizens looking at the marvels.
00:18:13
Speaker
up high 70 80 90 stories in the sky fighting what we would see how we would react react to it would we hide would we know what the hell is going on where they'd be just guessing second guessing what the hell the fights were all about like does a great job of that plus just with the lifestyle life like art of Alex Ross it just brings you in this world I think better than any artist could have done um fantastic series if you have not seen and that's the issue one let me let me go through the slides a little bit for people who are watching um This is issue 2, the X-Men, the Sentinels, the wedding of Reed and Sue from the Fantastic Four. Issue 3, Galactus. This is Harold's Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four. And this is the issue with Gwen Stacy, which is just a fantastic, fantastic, fantastic ah set. This is all collected on collected paperback editions now on Amazon. If you want to get them for like 20 bucks, you can get a cheap one. But very, very good comic book. And next year,
00:19:10
Speaker
We're gonna do all Superman's to look forward to that. Yeah We doing one a month, right give or take one to one of what most of them most of the stories I picked I picked shorter ones so you can get through it pretty quickly I've read one of them like last week. Yeah, so you can get them pretty quickly They're not you know, I'm not gonna make you do like World World saga, which is like a fucking 750 pound ah page by ahemoth But uh, it's a good book, but I been purposely what's coming this year. So I I've been purposely staying away from Superman. I know you've been watching. you You're trying to catch up on the stuff. i I plan on doing at least every other week. I'm not sure where we're going to start, but I want to tackle an aspect of Superman in time. Like in the very beginning, I want to talk about like the Max Max Fleischer 1930s. That's where I kind of began my love because I had that on DHS when I was really young. They're all on YouTube. They're all on YouTube. Plus, I have them on iTunes. They were like yeah nine bucks on on iTunes, yeah every single one of them.
00:20:05
Speaker
they've been remastered in HD of course but um that's where I got my that's before he flew that was him jumping over tall yeah leaping over tall tall buildings we'll talk all about that next year but it's kind of where we're going to start to talk about it it's gonna be a great year great year just like trump it's gonna be great great hey so speaking of trump that new haircut of his is uh stylist I saw saw that guy recognize the guy Next week we have season season two of squid game never watched the first season So I did finish that's basically why we missed watching a few things this week. I didn't

Squid Game & Dexter Insights

00:20:42
Speaker
watch shrinking We had a couple of movies that we're trying to watch it. I never finished it's revenge Plus it's the holidays too, but I did want to binge this and finish it before we recorded today I watched it in the last couple of days and
00:20:54
Speaker
This show is incredible. Everybody knows this could. I'm late to the party, of course, like everything. Did you watch it with subs or did you watch it with... I watched it with dubs. I could not go through subtitles. I had to be in the right mood to watch something with subtitles. Nine hours. What's it called that came out this year, too, that we forgot to mention? Shogun was also an incredible show, but half of it is in subtitles. And so you really got to lock in for those.
00:21:23
Speaker
Yeah, we didn't talk about Shogun that much on the show. I think I asked you about it a couple times. I never watched it. I watched three episodes. It's good. but yeah yeah um But yeah, the show is fantastic. And of course, I understand why this guy was hired to be Saul in Star Wars. yeah um He's a great emotional character. or I don't want to give the huge spoilers of it, but basically what the show is, it's it's it's this private group.
00:21:49
Speaker
that gets all these down and out people who owe debt beyond millions of dollars to anybody, to to loan sharks, to the government, to whatever. And while they're down in there down on their luck, they ask them to go be part of this game. If you play this game, you could be you could potentially win billions of dollars.
00:22:11
Speaker
So this guy, that the main character, i don't I don't know anybody's name because they're all foreign names in the show, but um this guy who is Stalin in Star Wars, the Acolyte is the main character who is sent here trying to and and he interacts with a whole bunch of different people. And see as you see in the poster, if you're watching, um these are mostly the main characters, but they're all led by masked. They're all met led and and run by masked men.
00:22:41
Speaker
So you can't see who's running the show. You can't see who's killing people. That's what ends up happening. The games are to the death. um And they're all childhood games. Like the first one is red light, green light. And if you don't, if you move during the red light.
00:22:57
Speaker
They eliminate you and by eliminating you, they kill you right on the spot. So they lose over half the people right first round already. um This is an amazing show. Right up till the end, ah there's a big huge twist I kind of saw coming about halfway through as I kind of figured that. But, um great show. This is on Netflix and the reason we're bringing it up is season two comes up next week.
00:23:20
Speaker
I think my favorite character besides him is the old man. I love their relationship throughout the show. um So I'm really looking forward to Friday or Thursday when it comes out. And I don't know if I'll be seeing it because there'll be a lot going on in my house on Christmas. Yes, holiday week. When shit like that. um But yeah, I'm looking forward to it. Yeah, I'm gonna try to watch it next week. but'll we'll We'll figure that out. but um Skeleton crew episode 4 I did watch that today ah This show is good very very I mean we already knew what it was going to be going into it It's the it's I hate saying it But it's the goonies in space and every every little aspect is as a plan to try to find their way back home Or and now there's this world that could be a treasure planet We're not really sure what's going on besides that we are really sure about Jude Law's character Is he a Jedi right?
00:24:06
Speaker
Yeah, we're not really sure is he is he making illusions to make them think he's a Jedi? We're not really sure. We're not really sure about found out a little bit more about the pirate droid That his memory wasn't wiped um He's kind of been just told not to say anything about the this hidden planet that nobody can find But a great show and some Disney Plus if you want to watch is a few more episodes left of that. Yeah, um, this one this show we're gonna break down the creature commandos um episode four we've been talking about this one yeah we're talking about this one for a while this is the one that James Gunn said was an emotional gonna be emotional wreck to some people but the reason for that is it's the we weasels backstory weasel we met in Suicide Squad James Gunn Suicide Squad um this is his backstory
00:24:48
Speaker
He's a very aloof character, does not speak English. I can't remember, what is his real name? We found out his real name this episode. I can't remember. John or something? I watched it at like 3am bro. I should have rewatched it before this show but Dexter dropped two episodes so I couldn't rewatch it. But yeah.
00:25:08
Speaker
Yeah, but it was great seeing his story. um You find out that there were kids that he he was protecting, but of course the world seeing this grotesque pi person, um or this animal, whatever you want to say he is, they were thinking that he was attacking the children.
00:25:24
Speaker
So as he's trying to save him out of a burning school, um they try to attack him instead so he can't save the children and they all perish in the building. Very sad story. um We also see another futuristic premonition from Circe of the Princess taking over the world. um Over the graves of Metahumans and the Justice Leagues. We see some of the first times we see Batman and Robin. We see a bunch of new new members of Metahumans in this DC world.
00:25:51
Speaker
um I think this episode also showed David Harbor as Frankenstein is fucking hilarious. Great casting. Hashtag freewheasel. I love that. um But yeah, next week is all about Frankenstein. Next week's episode. Flashbacks. I can cannot wait to see that. They do a great job every week, kind of taking one character and showing an origin or showing where they come from in this world, so it's really cool. um We'll talk more DC at the end of the show. um And this show, another show, the reason they released two episodes this week, on it's only coming out too on Paramount Plus, is because of the holiday next week. yeah If you're gonna watch on Showtime, they're gonna air regular time on Sunday, this weekend next week.
00:26:35
Speaker
OK, but the thing is, they're also dropping an episode next Friday. Oh, they are they're skipping. They're skipping. They're skipping the ah first Friday of January. That's what they're skipping. I looked up on IMDB right before we came on. But you want me to just talk about it real quick and then I can't wait for you to watch these these two episodes. yeah Yeah, I want to watch them. I didn't have time today. Yeah. I'll just do a quick breakdown like I usually do anyways. um Two more decent episodes. I really don't like Sarah Michelle Geller's character. I kind of feel like she died by the end of the year. vi it wasn't a huge season I wasn't a huge fan of her growing up either. yes I've never been big Buffy fan or nothing. I was never, in I never watched Buffy. I never watched any of that stuff. I did watch like, uh, when she did, um, when she met her husband there and, uh, fuck, the remain I know you did last summer. yeah Um, that was, that was pretty much the only thing I really, and she was in a cruel intentions, right?
00:27:29
Speaker
I think so. Yeah. Yeah. I think that was right. But, um, yeah. Uh, not really sure if I like her character. She's kind of a bitch to Dexter in this, but like kind of guess she's like the boss. Um, but his mannerisms, like he's actually like, he doesn't really interact with too many people outside of his family in the first episode, but he's interacted with a lot of like Debs friends in this episode and his mannerisms as Dexter are so goddamn perfect. Um,
00:27:58
Speaker
He also, there's a scene where he basically makes his own version of cocaine, which is kind of fun. um That's pretty good. um But yeah, overall these... He does take care of another bad guy, which is cool, of course. I think we're going to be getting that every couple of weeks. I assume that's why they did the two episodes, because the second episode is kind of slower, like it's kind of like, because he killed somebody in the last episode. And then third episode, we get into that. um yeah He's just learning his way right now and um trying to figure out how to do things. And the earrings that um he took from his first victim in the first episode, that all gets explained in episodes two and three.
00:28:35
Speaker
um of what happens to the earrings um overall i'm enjoying the show it's not like the greatest thing ever like i don't even know where i would think about putting it in the dexter like if i was to rank seasons um it's just it's a fun show to watch on a friday because i got nothing else going on anyways so i was surprised i was surprised because after we we were high on it last week i was surprised to see all the hate online for it To be honest with you. Pay attention to that. i mean People just want what they want. and yeah they they hate so they hated the They hated the sequel series too. um So it is what it is. I enjoy what I enjoy. I'm enjoying this show just as much as I am Creature Commandos. So I'm really looking forward to see what they do next week because they do leave you on a bit of a cliffhanger.
00:29:20
Speaker
Speaking of a sequel series, New Blood, the sequel that's supposed to start Harrison, um already had 10 episodes written for it. I want to put that in the notes. I wanted to bring that up, but that was canceled. um And they went with Resurrection. i I found out more about that this week. um The reason why New Blood was in one season, because they only had one season with Michael Hall, whatever his name is. yeah um He was not going to come back and do any more, but I think he just, it's kind of like once you taste that blood,
00:29:49
Speaker
you want to come back and for more and that's basically yeah paying him a lot of money to do that. I was gonna say in the eight to 10 million dollars he's making it probably helps also. But yeah, ah you can tell they kind of originally left off new blood um with ah going into a Harrison focused show afterwards. yeah um Definitely could tell that. I don't know how interesting that would be though, considering at the end of that show, he kind of realizes that's not him. But then again, part of that's because Dexter killed an innocent person and that's why he turned on him. So who knows if Harrison would run off to become a serial killer. I assume Harrison will be in the new show, so we'll see.
00:30:30
Speaker
Did you hear that that show the second season was supposed to be set in New York City? And I guess the rumor is that resurrection set in New York City. So maybe they're combining the two stories into this new Dexter run. But um yeah, I cannot wait for that. i can umm I'm going to watch those two episodes probably this weekend. Yeah. um So we're in the holiday season. We've

Holiday Movies & Venom Verdict

00:30:51
Speaker
got a couple more movies we're going to talk about. One big one came out but a few months ago, maybe a month ago with The Rock.
00:30:59
Speaker
and Chris Evans, J.K. Simmons. Yeah, it came out the week before or the week after Gladiator, one or the other. But yeah, it came out like a week too early to release a Christmas movie, but they did because of the budget. But this movie was called Red One. It's on it's on Amazon Prime, right, for free right now if you want to watch it.
00:31:19
Speaker
Um, Lucy Liu, Bonnie Hunt, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, who was the waitress in, uh, it's always sunny. Yep. I texted you that I was like, Oh shit, the waitress. Yep. Um, Nick Kroll community. Nick Kroll was in the league. Um, why is exactly is Santa being kidnapped? We find out that.
00:31:37
Speaker
There's this evil, this story is so convoluted, by the way, this movie's not good. Yeah, it's terrible. It doesn't even put you in the mood. It's not good. To be honest, holiday movies, especially especially the ones that you you like, you loved as a kid. They're not the best of movies. oh that's except for a few Except for a few exceptions, like Alpha Supreme. Yeah, Home Alone up there. but a lot of them are just from nostalgia purposes you were a kid when you watched them that's why you love them and i can see this movie for kids being that but this also for for someone who loved wrestling like you and i and saw the rock this also showcases his one trick rodeo and the good and mostly bad um he has one mode yep that's all he does in all of his acting um it's all action based i mean
00:32:27
Speaker
Arnold had that too, we' we've seen it throughout the years, but The Rock is that that now. yeah um And also, why does Santa, this this buffed out J.K. Simmons Santa who's who' benching thousands of pounds in this bodyguard,
00:32:45
Speaker
yeah of the Rock. like But it's it's just a strange movie. um It's basically the Rock is the bodyguard of Santa and Santa gets kidnapped and the Rock has to try to save him so he hires a private detective named, I can't remember his name but played by Chris Evans um to hunt him down. It doesn't doesn't matter really but yeah it's a weird North Pole that's all like industrial. Another movie I watched this week Red One, by the way, probably at one and a half out of five. yeah That's not being generous, notck good ah not Nutcrackers, this came out on Hulu starring Ben Stiller. This was a decent movie, not really Christmasy, I would say, even though the poster looks like it. um But basically, Ben Stiller um is a brother to a to a sister who has all of these kids
00:33:32
Speaker
ah The parents end up dying and the kids have to go into it into the system um so they bring Ben still earned of signed in some documents and of course he falls in love but back in love with the kids and You know how this hold this old story goes and that's basically what this is um Linda Cardellini who's in a whole bunch of stuff freaks and geek. She's been in some Marvel stuff um Decent movie three out of five for me. um This is on Hulu if you have Hulu it's on there just came out Um, Ben Stiller being Ben Stiller. Not a lot of comedy. It's more on the drama side of Ben Stiller. Uh, some funny moments. The kids have some funny moments. But, uh, decent movie. Um, I want you to get your full reaction to this movie. I haven't finished yet. I'm only halfway through. But, Heretic. Um, this is one of the final movies. Heretic, Heretic, I'm not really sure.
00:34:19
Speaker
yeah Starring Hugh Grant, all about missions, Mormons, faith, divine intervention, um only about an hour in, but I just want to get your reaction to the movie going forward. I'm going to expect the last half. I liked it a lot. I'm going to rewatch it though before we do a full review because I started there way too late at night. So like the last half has kind of, that's why I said the last half kind of falls apart, but that's probably because I was like half asleep when I was watching it because the beginning half that you watch is so enter tensioning and enthralling and very much tension filled um but there are some insane shots in this movie um yeah I think it's a very well made movie and I like it a lot um Hugh Grant is absolutely phenomenal in this movie
00:35:06
Speaker
Not in a lot of stuff and now. I mean, he was big big weird busy in the 90s. You came back as an Oompa Loompa, and then he does this movie. Yeah, weird. so yeah Yeah, I can't wait to finish that. But I did watch a movie this week, and this is where we're going to end off on our review, the very last review of the year. Unfortunately, it's Venom the Last Dance. We talked last week how, rest in peace to the Sony, Marvel, Sony, Spider-Man with no Spider-Man universe,
00:35:33
Speaker
Well, this movie was the last movie that we're watching, or I'm watching. Yeah, I watched it. You watched it too? Yeah, it was not good. Not good, but I'm going to say it's not bad as far as the Venom movies are concerned. um Problem with these movies, we're going to say it. This is probably the last time I'm ever going to say it. Not having Spider-Man in the movie with Spider-Man's main villain is a problem.
00:35:58
Speaker
Okay, yeah, I saw that. RIP to this bullshit, exactly. um They brought in Null, who's big in the modern day comic book world. Null is the father, the god of all the symbiotes. He had a war with Earth in a series called the King of Black, King in Black. um That just happened within the last five years. but um Andy Serkis, who directed the second movie in the Venom franchise, Let There Be Carnage, actually came in, did The Voice and MoCap for Knull. And I think Sony was expecting to make this a whole entire franchise after this movie, um but it failed completely in the box office, came to digital within a month, so it's not gonna do that. It's still, I believe it's still made its money back though. Like it didn't yeah die died at the box office, it made its money back. ah The Knull thing,
00:36:44
Speaker
that ps2 cutscene bullshit cgi they used on yes it's exactly what it was terrible terrible ps2 is exactly a ps5 what you would expect from the spot from the spider-man games on the ps5 you're exactly right about that um For the very beginning of this movie, they were a bashing the multiverse, um especially kind of taking all that stuff that was done in No Way Home and ripping it or on its head, even though No Way Home worked with the multiverse is where Sony made their most money in the last few years is from that movie. Yet they were bashing it in this movie. um The formula, the symbol, the symbolic, ah symbolic, the symbiotic relationship with Eddie and Venom.
00:37:25
Speaker
Still works, even though it's messy in this franchise, still the key of why this movie these movies are still enjoyable. um Tom Hardy, great actor, proves it in these movies because he outshines the movie itself in the story.
00:37:38
Speaker
Just showing their relationship talking to each other him talking to himself pretty much Um in this in this movie joining in the cast Juno tempo who we've seen in Ted lasso Cheetos or Eddie edgy for who was in? Dr. Strange she was 12 years a slave. He's been a but whole bunch of stuff Ryzei Finds, who is in Amazing Spider-Man, he played the lizard. um He was in No Way Home, he played the lizard again. Joins the cast as a weird hippie that ends up yeah that was odd eddie giza ends up giving Eddie and Venom a ride to Las Vegas. That's where the worst' where a lot of this movie is based. and Yeah, with his family. Yep. Michelle Williams surprisingly did not return for this since she was playing his love interest in the first two movies.
00:38:27
Speaker
um Soundtrack was weird. I did not expect the 70s British rock soundtrack Queen. Yeah, Bowie cat Stevens I noticed and I and I have a feeling it had to do with Tom Hardy Kind of being a fan of that stuff um and He's a fan of hip-hop. He was a hip-hop artist. See he records hip-hop tracks all the time. I think he's on this soundtrack.
00:38:48
Speaker
um Eddie and Venom, basically Eddie and Venom's buddy road trip to New York. um he figures Eddie figures if he goes to New York he could clear his name because of the second movie he killed Carnage and there's another guy that got killed so they're blaming him for that murder. So he's thinking, well if I go to New York I can clear my name. Doesn't make any sense really, what who this person in New York could clear his name in California. But so, it's it's it's Sony, we we'll forgive that.
00:39:15
Speaker
yeah um So this is a road trip trying to go to l LA. They end up going to Las Vegas. Area 51 where the symbiotes are being hidden. Area 51 gets closed down by the government. the Weird fucking story. um But not before stopping in Sin City um and you see a weird dance dance sequence with the the the leader or the owner of the store in San Francisco who was just so happens to be in Las Vegas at the time.
00:39:44
Speaker
um The final act was a symbiote overload. The exact quote I have in our notes. All the symbiote that we wanted to see basically in the first movie when I said that if if they were going to show symbiote this would be a great time to do it. They did it in this movie. um They upped the budget so they were able to do it I guess. But you saw I think at one point there must have been six or seven different symbiote. People were taken over by symbiote in the movie.
00:40:09
Speaker
at the end. A big huge symbiote versus symbiote battle. Reminded me a lot of Transformers where there's just so much metal and metal going on. There's so much goo flying around on the screen in this movie. but um Venom's fate. I'm going to spoil it now because I don't think anybody who's listening cares. cares But Venom dies. The symbiote dies. He sacrifices himself to to lock Null away where he's been locked away from debt for for centuries.
00:40:35
Speaker
So he has to kill himself to break the connection that he has with Eddie and that's basically what happens Or is it? Talk about that later Juno temples has a one only surviving symbiote and her and her symbiote has this electric weird electrical power which I know is in the comic books I can't remember who it was. I don't really care but she was surviving and I have a feeling that had to do again with Continuing this franchise. There's three points that we're going to continue this franchise her null and the end credits scene we should get into in a minute. um And Eddie finally does get to New York City. I think this is foreshadowing. We've been we've been kind of hinting to it that Marvel may be doing something with with Eddie Brock going into the new Spider-Man movie, going into a ground level Spider-Man. I'm not sure if we'll see Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock in New York.
00:41:28
Speaker
But Eddie going into New York kind of symbolizes where he's supposed to be. So I'm wondering if we'll see that because the rumors are all pointing to that direction. I really after seeing no, I hope we don't see no, but I don't know um the mid credit scene.
00:41:43
Speaker
Null, his full reveal, like you mentioned, PS5 reveal. um And he's teasing an invasion. The final threat for universal domination. um This movie was all built to to to build a universe building with Null. And the rumors were always going to be there was going to be Null returning in some form in ah in a symbiote movie or something outside of the Spider-Man universe. And we'll see where that goes, if it could go, if it could still be may maybe canceled with everything else who knows.
00:42:13
Speaker
The after credits scene, Danny Rojas from Ted Lasso escapes from Area 51. He was in No Way Home, he was the bartender in that, yeah who Eddie was in Earth 616. In this movie, he goes back to this world, it's the same Danny Rojas with a different hairdo, that's how they explain the multiverse fuckery. And a cockroach circles a a sparkling tube that once held Juno Temple's symbiote that was all electrical.
00:42:39
Speaker
um And Denny Ross is walking out there. So I'm wondering if they're the They were trying to hint that maybe he was gonna have a symbiote I'm not sure I'm not really sure what this movie was hinting to or what they

Superman Year & George Reeves Discussion

00:42:49
Speaker
what what they were planning. I don't think anybody really knows and and Unfortunately between this and Craven a lot of shitty didn't lot of shitty Marvel Spider-Man Sony movies and the largest the last week that kind of took me out of everything um but Two out of five, and that's being generous with these movies. I wasn't a big fan of the of the first one, I told you that. I mean, not having Spider-Man in there from the very beginning hurt this hurt it hurt it for me. I was more high on the second one, because at least they did Carnage good.
00:43:22
Speaker
um tone down from what the comic books are. Carnage is a murderer. Not a lot of blood in the second movie that there that there could have been. It could have been R-rated easily. Same with this one. But we also see what Sony can do in the R-rated movie with Craven. Kind of a light R-rated. So um yeah, 2 out of 5 for me. And an R.I.P. to the Sony universe.
00:43:43
Speaker
R.I.P. to that universe and hopefully sput they'll take more time with Beyond the Spider-Verse and the noir show, which I'm excited for. it I mean, even though it is Sony, um we do see Nicolas Cage coming back to that character. And of course, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland is where all of us care about to anybody that cares about Marvel cares. So um with that being said, let's get into the news.
00:44:12
Speaker
and it's not a new segment with trail roundup
00:44:17
Speaker
I got the new trailer for warfare. This is the movie follow-up kind of to Civil War um Done by what's his name? Alex Garland yeah Set in a modern time. This is more modern um It's done all the choreography for the war or all the all the background for the war done by a war veteran from the Iraq war So it looks cool looks all done from it's everything in it's from his memory of what happened yeah when he was over there It's nice cool Yeah, very cool. It does look good. like We were both high on Civil War, so we're not kind of interested in that. We'll keep our eye on it. Stars Michael Gandalfini, who is James Gandalfini's son who is in...
00:44:57
Speaker
the movie on HBO, the prequel series to the Sopranos, um Joseph Quinn and Will Poulter. All three of those guys I'm excited to see in this movie. so um Final trailer we're gonna talk about before the end because there's a big trailer. I know, just be patient with us, we'll talk about it. There was, there was a big trailer this week.
00:45:18
Speaker
There was a huge one, but this is the final one. Should I pause and search it up? How many times did you see it was the question you should ask? We'll talk about that at the end, but yes um Death of a Unicorn. this um This movie looks pretty good. I can't remember who stars in it now that it's blanking me.
00:45:34
Speaker
But I think it's Paul Rudd, maybe I don't remember, but look different. Looked unique um from the guy. I don't remember much about this, about this trailer now. So I'm blanking on it, but go watch it. Find out. Maybe you'll know more than I do. um Weekend box office last weekend, Moana 2 still winning 26 million, Wicked 22.5, and Craven the Hunter. Surprisingly, number 3 made 11 million, but it's probably going to do a huge, huge fall this week. um Speaking of Craven, had the worst box office opening, worse than Madam Web in Mobius.
00:46:11
Speaker
Oof, yeah, bad, bad, bad, bad. um Lord of the Rings, War of the Roar here, opened to 4.6 million domestically, um saying that it was fast-tracked to ensure that New Line cinemas did not lose the film adapt adaptation rights to Tolkien's universe. um We've talked about this before with Marvel movies back in the day. They used to do that too. They used to to to streamline these movies really, really fast.
00:46:36
Speaker
So they would keep the rights and and lower the rings a huge for Warner Brothers, a huge property, especially the Hobbit rings movies were huge for them. So not surprising. ah Red One, we talked about it earlier, 50 million globally um on the premiere just in the first weekend alone. That's huge for Amazon. um So yeah, yeah, it's it's a better, it was supposed to be a streaming movie anyway. It's kind of surprising that it it took that turn, but Um, over 2 million people watched Dexter's premiere in just the first three day, three days, Dexter original sin last week. Uh, we worked two with those people. So, uh, yeah, very cool. Um, natural film registry added 25 titles to the 2024 list going into the, uh, the library of Congress. Um, most notably dirty dancing, Beverly Hills cop, the first one, um, the wrath of con and the Texas chainsaw massacre, the first one.
00:47:28
Speaker
um Also of note, um I saw Up in Smoke, the Cheech and Chong movie. um There's another one I wanted to bring up. Spy Kids, a weird fucking movie, but to be in there. um No Country for Old Men, that wasn't really high enough, but the social network, that's what I wanted to bring up. Great movie here in Sorkin. I don't want that movie. Yep. Announced on Netflix this week that Ghostbusters is going to have another movie.
00:47:53
Speaker
but it's going to be am animated. Um, I'm not sure who's doing it. I can't, I can't remember who it was, but it's coming soon. Um, and that's going to be the new, the new, uh, new new Ghostbusters going forward. It's going to be this animated film on Netflix. Not sure who the characters are going to be. Not sure if it's a continuation of the franchise that we've seen in live action in the last few years or not, but, uh, yeah. Um, Owen Wilson is going to start opposite Matt Rife in a live nation comedy called Rolling Loud.
00:48:20
Speaker
Based off the big festival, the Rolling Loud festival. Not sure about that either, but yeah. Mason Gooding, coming back for screen seven. Yeah. Yeah, they're bringing back a lot of that cast. It's odd. I don't know where they're going with the story. I think I told you, I don't know if it was off Potter on that. I heard it was going to take place between four and five. It could still very well if he's the only one.
00:48:46
Speaker
If he's cast in this movie, they could still go that route. Cause I feel like he had a relationship somewhat with Sydney in five. um So could still be between four and five, um but I have no idea.
00:48:59
Speaker
Yeah, I'll wait and see on that. ah Jamie Lee Curtis and talks to Star as Jessica Fletcher in a movie about set through the TV show, ah an adaptation of the TV show Murder, She Wrote. Set in the state of Maine, by the way. i'm Not sure if we need this. Jamie Lee Curtis, I guess, is an old and old enough actress to play um play that character now. But i yeah. um Got new pictures, new stills from Jurassic World or Jurassic 4 or whatever. dressas Park world whatever it's gonna be called. Yeah starring ah starring Scarlett Johansson um and the guy who the guys in wicked blade her But yeah, I've got some new pictures of that movie. We'll have to wait and see cuz we weren't high in the last one Lin-Manuel Miranda has been talking a lot about
00:49:48
Speaker
Hamilton talking about he's not thrown away the idea of making a live action Hamilton movie, but he's waiting for the perfect opportunity to make it perfect idea to make it say I've been saying that for a while, especially after wicked success.
00:50:03
Speaker
um See in that movie, I could see the world of of history being brought to life with Hamilton, with the music of Hamilton. and be It'd be cool, I would love that. um Universal, ah bringing in a new Kevin Smith comic book mystery show.
00:50:19
Speaker
um It's called Vocal Heroes, a group of comic book store regulars who band together to solve crimes in their hometown. um Inspired by Kevin Smith's actual comic book store, he's going to be EP and writing it, so yeah, interesting. I haven't heard him talk about it yet, so I'm interested to hear his podcast and see what he says.
00:50:41
Speaker
You got some new stills from the new karate kid movie coming out next year. I'm guessing a continuation of Cobra Kai You see you see yeah, it's said like a year after Cobra Kai ends. Okay. so Okay. I don't think we'll see any of those kids in it I think whatever happens the end of Cobra Kai will lead into this movie Right. also Also got some first glimpse of Megan 2, the AI robot movie. Got a new picture of her with a brand new look. um Yeah, interesting. I did like the first one. It was a good movie. That was good.
00:51:14
Speaker
Um sonic announced that they're going to be coming out with a sequel sonic four I think sonic three came out today sonic four is coming out in 2027 was announced right before the movie were released um getting high the third movie is getting higher and higher reviews people are loving it so so sad joke most Yeah, I kind of catch up on them. I love that. I love those games growing up as a kid. I had it on the Game Gear. I had it on the Genesis. So I got to catch up on it. Got our first look at Bob Odenkirk and nobody too. I came out today um him the with a machine gun. Looks cool. I can't wait for that. um The Mummy coming out with a brand new movie in the works. Coming out and on April 17, 2026. Not sure anything about it. I love the British Frazier ones. Never saw the one with Tom Cruise.
00:51:59
Speaker
um heard it was awful god-awful, but yeah, I wonder what direction they're gonna go if they're gonna go to the Tom Cruise route or they're gonna go to the Brendan Fraser more comedic Indiana Jones route or are they go in the bloom house route and Continuing the bloom house run of the universal monsters, which I'm thinking is what they're gonna be doing. But yeah, who knows? Yeah, they come We got the first look of Batista with a weird haircut. No, this is from the movie looks like her ruffle. He does ah This is ah the last showgirl starring Pamela Anderson comes up I think in a few months and in a few weeks like I don't remember but um he looks like he's playing some sort of a 1970s slut slut
00:52:39
Speaker
uh... wrangler uh... who knows uh... primes a secret level talked about it last week renewed for season two uh... but everybody's talking about why don't you just make a fucking dungeons and dragons episode everybody love the mega man episode two mega man i think ended on the mega man episode but Fifteen minutes is not enough to tell these stories. I would love to see a Dungeons and Dragons just just episode on the show Yeah, yeah, yeah um Got the first poster for Abbott Elementary and it's always sunny in Philadelphia the crossover episode coming out on January 8th on ABC um all the all the guys from from
00:53:19
Speaker
It's always sunny going to the elementary school, which seems like it should be against the law, but they're all going to be there. um Got the final the the final shot of what they're filming for Peaky Blinders with Barry Coogan and Cillian Murphy. I just ended filming this week, so yeah, excited for that. I got to catch up on that last season.
00:53:39
Speaker
um Wicked speaking of wicked earlier wicked season wicked episode Movie 2 part 2 whatever you want to call it has been changed to wicked for good coming out in November 21st a little less than a year excited for that um Here's some swag swag stuff we all get come on son you know what that's right um They're coming out with this new McFarland figure, Spider-Man from Secret Wars. The black suit where he first debuts with that. This figure looks awesome. Definitely shelf worthy. Probably going to be on my shelf somewhere.
00:54:16
Speaker
because I love the symbiote costume on Spider-Man of course eventually turns into Venom so ah very very cool um and going into the Marvel news of the week what if comes out next week we finally get all the episodes of what what if episodes are going to be ending this series um episode one what if the Hulk fought the the mech Avengers it's basically going to be like um Transformers Voltron versus the Hulk um Episode 2, what if Agatha went to Hollywood? Episode 3, what if the Red Guardian stopped the Winter Soldier? um Episode 4, what if Howard the Duck got hitched? Episode 5, what if the Emergence destroyed Earth?
00:54:58
Speaker
um what if 1872 I'm excited for that. um That's a great run What if the watcher disappeared and the app the last episode of what if is called? What if what if? um Yeah, it starts next week. It's gonna be ah starts on the 22nd just in a couple days and It's gonna run up until the 29th an episode a day. So yeah, I'm very excited for that um' also got the first picture a promo picture of the fantastic for that kind of link this week with all the characters and their garb from the movie so that's cool um news from the spider verse we were talking about it recently i don't know why that's there but news from the spider verse um there they have new directors coming in to finish the movie beyond the spider verse um
00:55:42
Speaker
There was a big problem that nobody knew about. This movie is supposed to come out back in March. And they brought in new directors to finish it. and the and for some I guess the audio has not been recorded. Nothing's really been finished. For some of the characters, yeah, it's weird. Yeah, yeah very weird that this this took a turn like that. Considering it was supposed to be out not that long ago. but um yeah um Sony, I saw this rumor everywhere. I'm not sure about it.
00:56:06
Speaker
but reporting looking to sell the rice to Spider-Man back to Marvel Studios. I think this is just- That's not gonna happen. I don't think it's gonna happen either. It's their money maker. They're not gonna do that. And also they can do fucking nothing and just have MCU put out Spider-Man for all eternity and make fucking half a billion dollars every time they do. So why would they? I mean, even if they don't do their own movies or projects anymore, which I'm kind of hoping for. um Yeah, they they're not selling is my guess.
00:56:35
Speaker
Their biggest money maker was No Way Home, and the and they had they had no no touch of that. i mean It was all marble um Marvel so Oh, there he is. Kyle Chandler, looking like the Green Lantern. Very excited for this movie. That'll be a book we'll read when that gets closer. but you Okay. Yeah, we'll do that. Earth One's a good story.
00:56:57
Speaker
Yep. Um, so finally in news, the news everybody has been waiting for, including you and I on Monday. No, first of all, let's just show this glorious fucking poster that debuted Monday morning of Superman. Oh yeah. David Cornsweat. So we are very excited when we saw the poster, but we had to wait three more days. It was announced for the trailer, which we've been hinting to is going to happen. So they had a trailer event.
00:57:27
Speaker
um First of all, I just wanted to show the posters of the four trailer the four posters for the main the main run of this series from from Christopher Reeves Brandon Ralph Henry Cavill in this one out of the three I mean the original is my favorite but this one nir's my favorite the The prism of this new one is just on par with that one I think it looks fantastic, especially the motion the motion poster, which is incredible we'll get into all of that in a minute, but um Like I said, WB opened up. They had the press come in talking about seeing this movie or seeing this trailer. The cast was there, Corn Sweat and Brosnahan was there i'm talking about it. And James Gunn revealed a whole bunch of new info. Yes, he did. Revealed the top influence for this movie was Top Gun Maverick.
00:58:20
Speaker
I'm saying that the action was influenced by that, but the universe blueprint was inspired by the open world of Game of Thrones. Both of the two things he said this weekend got me very, very excited and get pumped up more for this movie. I love I love being dropped into a universe that already has war you that they can explain later. Like that basically happened with Star Wars, the same thing. It's just it's just it's different to build a universe that way in which I love. um Yeah, yeah, I just I love that.
00:58:49
Speaker
this is the little quick teaser of the teaser we saw on Monday too these are just quick little glimpses we saw a Superman from behind the Daily Planet looks in incredible looks just right out of the comic books but Zack Snyder was just like a skyscraper with a name Daily Planet on it but this looks just like right out out of everything. They never showed that in the movies. That was from like a Turkish airline ad they used it for. So I don't know how much involvement Zach actually had in that. But um yeah, you never saw the outside of the daily planet. I'm assuming it would just look like a tall skyscraper yeah that gets knocked down in the end of that or towards the end of that. I don't know. um But yeah. Also explaining the trunks and wearing because they did decide to do the red trunks on Superman. David Korsa had the idea that basically he's an alien.
00:59:37
Speaker
He's got these incredible powers, he shoots beams from his eyes, can blow the truck, blow the the truck over. He's incredibly powerful, could be considered a scary individual. And he wants people to like him. He wants to be a symbol of hope and positivity. So he dresses like a professional wrestler, dresses in a way that makes people unafraid of him, that shows that, if it and and I was like, that really clicked for me.
00:59:58
Speaker
um That was James Gunn talking about David corn sweat coming up with that idea Which I think is a great great concept of thinking of that making out the box for that um also talking about um There's gonna be zero setup Devoted to what's coming next in the in the DC universe, right? All this is all Superman. That's all we're gonna watch um If there's something else just just to set up something he says fuck it exact quote. Um, I And the trailer, which we're going to get into in a minute, a lot of it is in the beginning of the film. There's a couple of scenes later on, a couple of moments, but most of the trailer is all the beginning of the film. um Everybody's going to know that Clark and Lois are together. Everybody's going to know this is yeah basically further along in his story. He's already been a superhero. It's not an origin story.
01:00:47
Speaker
Um So when the first picture Monday morning or Thursday morning Wendell Pierce, of course from the wire. She is a guy who said shit. What's he saying? Yeah, wire she um So here's your here's a scoop Superman trailer releases just in a few hours So he posted this picture of Perry white in the front of the Daily Bugle or Gary planet. I've been doing that all week And then and then we finally get into shots. We're gonna break this down shot by shot because I want to get reactions Talk about what we think of the shots of this movie. First shot is Superman in the snow, covered in blood. um Second shot is Clark running through a crowded metropolis into the Daily Planet, which we see in the picture on the bottom left, sitting at his desk, walking through the Daily Planet. So, what what are we what are what are we thoughts what are what are our thoughts? Is this beginning and beginning of the movie, obviously, Clark is attacking what, the Kaiju that we think?
01:01:46
Speaker
I assume, yeah, um I think the movie's gonna open up with the kaiju fight. um I think this will all be like the next day or something like that, yeah um the Clark stuff. um But I was so surprised he gave us, um and this is about like the whole trailer or whatever, it really was a teaser trailer even though it was a regular trailer length. I was surprised he gave us so much, but still at the same time he gave us nothing. Like we really had nothing to go on except for speculation from the shots. um I was so happy they gave us the Clark walking down the street and into the dilly.
01:02:17
Speaker
planet, not people. Almost to myself. Like a mumbling around, mumbling around. ne Trying to zoom through traffic. yeah and Zooming through traffic, zooming through foot traffic. Very awesome. um Lois Lane, we see her in her true form being a reporter for the for the Daily Planet.
01:02:35
Speaker
um We see crypto my favorite scene of the movie um When he calls crypto whistle is the group. Yeah The what the best part let's just talk about it now because the best part is what this trailer has done To the Snyder verse the the bomb that it went off yesterday the memes, the post, which you've been following more heavily than I have. Oh my God. It's been ridiculous. Block City out there on these streets. Block City.
01:03:07
Speaker
One of the best ones, I wish I got it so I could show it on the podcast, but there's one that shows this picture on the top with crypto saving Superman, but it's Zack Snyder's crypto with a machine gun. That's a great, great photo. That's probably my favorite one out of this whole thing. yeah um yeah so we saw part We see Pa Kent, we see out they see the Kent farm. um We know that they've cast Martha as well, but we're not sure question more about that. yeah More speculation.
01:03:36
Speaker
Yep. There's two ways. I think they can go with this either Martha dies. Yeah. And that's them consoling each other or instead of a heart attack or something, there's a disease, maybe slowly killing Paquette. So he'll be around for maybe one or two movies. Um, but he might have cancer. He could have something like that, you know? Um, yeah maybe he does die in this movie. Um, but I think those are the two most realistic things. You have any ideas, any extra ideas?
01:04:05
Speaker
That's what I was thinking too, Martha would probably be the one that died. I'm not gonna speculate too much because the trailer, it was awesome, but there's so much here that we don't know. Some of my favorite Superman stuff I've read in the last year comes from all seasons, which of course a lot of this is based on, and Clark and his father have a lot of really good conversations within that book. That's gonna humanize this character in this movie, I believe. I think you're right about that.
01:04:34
Speaker
um Next set of pictures, Luther. I love this shot of Nicholas Holt with a gun. It's Lex Luthor. No, not Corp. Not Lex Corp. Luther Corp. So was Luther Corp. Wasn't that in Smallville? Wasn't that when his dad owned it was Luther Corp. And then when he took over, he came Lex Corp. I believe so. Yeah. Because people were pissed about it being Luther Corp. And I'm like. It's fine with me. I don't give a shit. It looks awesome. Works for me. Looks great. Looks like you could find a metropolis. The thing about like comic accuracy, which is something we get into a lot is. Yeah.
01:05:04
Speaker
if you change things but you keep the heart of the central characters a good movie then it's fine like with guardians where it's still the art of the characters even though they're active when they do the comics where then you have some other stuff that
01:05:23
Speaker
They did stuff that wasn't comic accurate, and they went the other way. People didn't enjoy the storytelling at the same time. um yeah which also It all has to do it also to do with storytelling. Can you tell a good story that's going to bring you in? Yep. Next set of pictures, um we've seen this picture in the background of this alien attacking the city. Yes. But Lois and Clark, they have ah they have an emotional moment together. so You also see Superman walking through a crowd getting mine shit thrown to thrown at him. yeah was Another theory of mine. um That's not Superman. That's the alleged clone. And she's trying to convince him to join the fight because i if there's something going on, like what's in the background here, ah Superman would be there. He wouldn't be just chilling with Lois. So maybe there maybe she has the busted up suit and he puts that on what you see the very first photo of him in the suit, putting the boots on. That could be the Ultraman character that we also see in the trailer. We'll begin next to that in a minute.
01:06:22
Speaker
That's just a theory of mine. um And yeah, the second picture is great. I assume that's after the Kaiju fight, um which my theory on the Kaiju fight is the Kaiju is metamorpho yeah or made out of metamorpho. And the other heroes like Guy Gardner and Hawker will want to kill him. And Superman saves him, and he ends up trapped back at the Stag Corporation. We'll get that to that in a minute. I think this is people being pissed that so much damage happened to the city.
01:06:49
Speaker
um But a lot of people have been complaining that he feels the can on the back of his head, and I'm like, well, somebody threw styrofoam at you. Yeah, you feel it. It would still flinch, even if it didn't hurt. Henry Cavill got hit in the back of the head with a beer can, and he did the same thing. People are just being idiots, not realizing this isn't fucking real life. It's fucking superheroes.
01:07:14
Speaker
it's not supposed to be like real life i don't want to read something that's like my real life because that sucks real life sucks in general um yeah it's escapism um yeah so yeah you gotta yeah especially disbelief i guess is what you gotta say speaking of guy gar Yeah, putting up a green lantern. I think he's putting up some shade so that they can't look in. Yeah. um And just kind of being braggadocious. um And it looks straight out of Justice League um International or unlimited, whichever run that is. Looks just like that guy, Gardner. Looks awesome. A lot of people complaining about Corn Sweat being very emo in this scene, very emo in general in the trailer. Yep. um The people being the Snyder group, but yeah.
01:07:55
Speaker
um Then we see another episode of Crypto taking Superman and dragging him back to Fortress of Solitude or wherever he's going to go. um Also see Hawker. Oh, yeah, Hawkman in ah Black Adam, but this time we see Hawker. I Love that story in the comic books. I'm hoping that we may see that and in live action. Yeah, did they did that in smallville, right? They did the Hawkman Hawker story in smallville. I think I remember dead. Yes. Yep. Yep. Um Kaiju speaking of Kaiju fighting Superman in the middle of Metropolis looks awesome. Um There we go
01:08:29
Speaker
metamorphho Metamorpho Metamorpho big bad of the movie. We're guessing who uh, I don't know. I don't think I think the big bad is Lex. Um, I think that yeah anything that goes up against Superman will be they were working for Lex or created by Lex. Like I think Ultraman is going to be created by Lex, um, separate himself from the comic book Ultraman. Um, like I said, I think he might, they might've experimented on him and basically turned him into a Kaiju. That's just a theory I have. And we were talking about it last night with a bunch of people. Um,
01:08:59
Speaker
And then this is after he comes back to his regular four, maybe in a cell or something next to but next to Superman, which we'll get to in a second, but yeah. Yeah. And we get Mr. Terrific.
01:09:11
Speaker
He looks awesome. but I think he's, I think, I think he's got the best design, like even better than Superman as far as like just straight up, just comic accuracy, like everything about him. And I love, I like the Superman soup. but I just think his design is just awesome. He's been being protected in the top screen by some sort of a force yeah or something. It looks like he's protecting Lois protecting lewis yeah or somebody in that bubble. Yeah. Speaking of Lois, we get the, uh, the iconic picture of Superman and Lois flying and kissing.
01:09:37
Speaker
um And I think that's maybe the last one, but this came out today. This is from, I guess, a theatrical? Yes, the Sonic 3 trailer has three additional scenes that are like less than a second. It's literally like that's Mr. Terrific standing up. That's Lex and the engineer are walking through a tunnel with his security and then there's one other one.
01:09:57
Speaker
Okay, those are the only two I saw, but yeah. um full trailer Full trailer was awesome. Teaser, of course. Didn't get a lot of information about the movie, but we saw a glimpse of what it's gonna look like. Looks fantastic. Color brought back to Superman, which I've wanted to see since Man of Steel, when everything got toned down and darkened. Not only the picture, but the character as well. But ah very excited to see where this franchise, the DC Universe, goes from here.
01:10:24
Speaker
yep and very good jumping off point and excited for the lens they used for this film is um I'm blanking on the name of it but basically you can switch to three different lens sizes so when you see that shot of Superman busting out of the glass they change the basically the ratio three times while they move the camera which is kind of cool um so I'm really looking forward to this a lot of people are complaining about the cinematography um And apparently everyone became fucking fucking experts in color um Coloring a film this week. Yeah, apparently that's been a thing like this. Yes i saw color came out and now. Everyone got a degree in cinematography and film colorization
01:11:04
Speaker
um But yeah, they still have seven months to work on any issues that they might have. So ah we haven't talked about the music. We heard the first piece of music yeah influenced by John Williams, the theme from John Williams. It sounded like it sounded like an anthem theme. You'd hear from like Lenny Kratitz or something like it sounded like it'd be played at like the summer baseball game. We were talking about that last night with some people. James Gunn also talked. love yeah James Gunn also talked about the soundtrack. um Not going to be influenced more of like the yeah Guardians of the Galaxy where it was outside music. This is going to be more of a score, which we kind of figured is going to be so very, very excited to see where this is going. um was it was it Did it live up to the hype that you had before going in?
01:11:44
Speaker
It absolutely it it exceeded my expectations. I think so for me too. By everything from the length of the teaser, to how much they showed us, to not showing us anything really, just leaving us yeah with nothing to do but speculate until we get a story trailer. probably justtin right Just enough to just to tickle us right now is all we needed. Soon looks good. Looks better than we expected.
01:12:08
Speaker
People were like, but he used slow mo. And I'm like, yeah, that's a good thing to use is if it's not 33% of a four hour fucking movie. right It's a good technique. It's great when Zach used it in small doses also.
01:12:20
Speaker
um So it's been a lot of stuff like that I've had to weed through this week. um But none of it has toned down my excitement. um Seeing the fact that I think like 112 million people could stream the trailer on all the combined sites is pretty insane. I think Endgame was like 180 million. um So that's pretty insane. I think a lot of people tune into the trailer to see Well, one, they hate James Gunn. Um, so they want to have part of it. They wanted to, yeah, they they hate watched it. Um, two, I think a lot of people were also just curious what he would do with Superman, which is what where I've been this whole time. I thought he could do it. I just didn't know if he would. Um, so you get, you get a bunch of factions like that. And then of course, the people are are really looking forward to it. The gun fans. Um, so yeah, I mean, all in all is a great day to be a Superman fan.
01:13:10
Speaker
Yeah, we have a great time to be a comic book fan, Superman fan, especially next year is going to be historic. If DC has something that can push Marvel to be better, that's always good. That's always for the past. Exactly. So you want this competition to happen. Right. This adventure is not a rivalry. It's a friendly rivalry. I mean, James Gunn is with Marvel DNA. He did the Guardians movies, which are some say is the best trilogy that they've ever had.
01:13:38
Speaker
until he went up against Trump, he was going to be the guy that was basically Feige secondhand in the MCU. um So yeah i just I'm excited. i I have nothing to complain about from that trailer.
01:13:50
Speaker
um Yeah, it was awesome. I'll probably watch it again tonight. I saw it way too much yesterday, but I have some merch on the way because of that trailer. So yeah, it's fun. Spending, ah spending spring. So next year, tease. I mean, next year, starting probably the end of January, beginning of February, every other week, we're going to be talking about Superman. We're going to be breaking it down from Max Fleischer.
01:14:14
Speaker
to the Dawner movies, to the the TV shows. You did your Smallville Watch. Superboy, for Christ sakes, came out in 1989. We're gonna break down everything. We're gonna break down Brandon, Ralph Superman, Henry Cavill, Superman, everybody. Watch Long Nights with certain peoples. And we're doing all the animated movies too, so I might talk about those. Yeah, and we'll do Diamond and whatever we can. yeah yeah and There's a lot. it's It's a character that's been around for almost 100 years.
01:14:42
Speaker
yeah So we have a lot to talk about, and it's been around in live action for one of the longest times. um Between between ah between chris with ah George Reeves, we're gonna talk about, we're also gonna talk about Hollywoodland, a movie starring Ben Affleck as George Reeves. So we're gonna deep dive into this character, and we're gonna make you people sick of Superman by the end of the year. But no that's it that's it for the show. That's it for this year, everybody. Thank you for listening. Thank you for watching, if you've been watching on YouTube. Not a lot of people have, and I understand it's a podcast, but um when we come back next time, we're going to be doing our Christmas afterther Aftermath show and tell. um We're going to be talking about

Yeah, you should probably just start from the beginning and watch it all all the way through.
01:16:02
Speaker

Is it an action movie or a drama? stars him It's a drama. It stars him and it also stars Jason Bateman. um It's on Netflix. Jason just came out. It's getting good reviews, I believe, so we'll have to keep an eye on that. While we're gone, we're both going to go to the movies. We're going to see not only Nosferatu, but we're also going to be seeing like a complete unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic. um Also, as a bonus for the Nosferatu movie, I'm going to be reviewing The Last Voyage of the Demeter.
