Show and Tell: Christmas Gifts

00:01:25
Speaker
Hey, what's going on? Hey, what's happening, bro? You know, just kicking it. Yes, kicking it. Kicking it old school. Oh, yes, I can. Can I kick it? Oh, yes, yes thank you can. Yes, you can. We are going to have a half a show and tell this week because You got your Christmas gift, Sam. Yeah. And you're going to get me mine sometime this week, but we're going to open up ah yours with a quick half of a show and tell.
00:02:21
Speaker
What you got, Kevin? Alright, well, I pre-opened these and just slid them on on my bed, so... Because I knew that might be an issue. I see these boxes all the time and they're kind of difficult. So, let's see... First up... Not a surprise, you told me. Death of Superman.
00:02:41
Speaker
Yep. Is that the full one? That is the full, uh, yep. The full run of just the death. Ooh. Did he just turn into a comic? That is a Alex Ross, uh, special edition foil cover that came out, I think, believe this year. Um, that's the, that's the comic book that I was talking to you about, um, like in the nineties. That's his first arc artwork that he did. It's a re-release that came out, I think this year. Nice. That might have to go up on the wall. Yep. And Superman forever.
00:03:11
Speaker
Yes, it's a 3D Alex Ross cover. Nice. there I know it's actually right off the bat the Alex Ross. Yep. Yep. And if you're, if you remember that cover, I think we had it as one of our covers for our podcast way, way back in the day of changing Superman. Yeah. Yep. I always loved that picture. Nice. Yep. And I believe you got your penguin. Finally, your penguin newspaper that I saved months and months and months ago.
00:03:40
Speaker
Excellent but multiple to give me multiple Yes, because we found out how much they were online if you wanted to sell them or give them away believe Well, you know, I know a friend in Philadelphia shout out to mark I'll probably be seeing him on my way down. I may have to give him one then hang on to the other two and a frame for it Thank you very much Excellent. I can't wait to get you yours. Wait. No, that's not a frame. What's what's underneath the penguins? No, no, no, no that is not a frame. Oh I just assumed it was a frame. No, no, no. Wrapped in bubble wrap. Yes, yes, yes. That is a rare record store exclusive. They are very hard to come by and I got a great deal on it. From one of your favorite movies, one of your favorite soundtracks. Office Space Vinyl.
00:04:30
Speaker
I don't know if you have a record player. and I don't know if you've had any records or not. but not gonna have to My father just got a record player. I can't wait to swap out his record for this one to see what happens. But that is awesome. Yeah, I figured ah i figured as if you don't have any records, it's a good start to your collection. so That was one of my favorite soundtracks for in high school. yeah I remember you used to play it all the time driving around in your car.
00:04:53
Speaker
yep And then of course, of course you ID I got a free prints that was for I got a frame for for five bucks I gave it that to you too as a glass. So I Don't know if you have it close by there or not. Wait, where is it? I hid it. It was ah the glass print with that crypto And hung it up yet cuz I was waiting I
00:05:21
Speaker
Yeah. I got that for free because i brought it I bought a print and that was stuck to the bottom of it. I don't know if they accidentally sent it or they just sent me an extra one. That's pretty fucking cool. So you got the same print? No, I got a different one. and it's just It was just underneath the one I got. Oh, interesting. yeah what Which one did you get? Do you have it? um As a matter of fact, ah I don't know if I can reach it right now, but it's the it's that comic book, the Superman and Alex Ross comic book, but it's the yeah it's the Superman changing. It's the whole thing.
00:05:51
Speaker
next to over here Yeah, yeah, so ah yeah now you can start your your vinyl collection with all your favorite albums so something else i don't need to get a fantastic you know me what i start too that's That's the issue with these single issues I've been buying is oh my god, this is great I'll just read it until the run is over or you know, so I decided I don't like it anymore I think myself i like I'm such a completionist. I'm probably gonna keep buying them. Yes to complete the entire run I'm like goddamn it. This is why he told me that was dangerous game to play Yeah, very dangerous. So let's talk about what we watched this week. Get into the show. We had a finale. We had Skeleton Crew. The finale came out this week. um I am not too high on how the show ended. I think the beginning was pretty good.
00:06:35
Speaker
but it just left me wanting a lot more from Star Wars and I know this is made for kids and we've talked about in the last few weeks how it's kind of not in our

TV Show Review: Star Wars Finale

00:06:45
Speaker
demographic anymore. no Although i don't I don't truly believe that because even if you go back and watch Star Wars in 1977, that was kind of like a generational movie. That was for everyone.
00:06:56
Speaker
um You'd be an adult you'd be a kid and still love that movie those movies that came out in the 80s and 70s but um For this for this show For what it was we kind of knew what it was going to be going in this galaxy adventure of these kids getting lost in space with Jude law being this weird adult figure who is either a Jedi which we find out he is a Jedi kind of and um And we also find out the real leader of this secret planet thatther that they live on Which is this mining planet for for droids droids run it um There's no real bad guy. There's nothing this kind of just ended with a whimper to me It went from the goonies to a bank heist and that's the whole reason that Jude law is there and the pirates are there to try to get all this this republic gold credits from underneath the city um and julah you find out was found as a foundling right before order 66 he was a padawan for a young master
00:07:56
Speaker
And he actually witnessed her being hunted down during Order 66. Get a really quick brief couple of sentences just to find out that information. Would have loved to see that in a flashback or would have loved to see that in something. um Always wanting more for stuff like that, but we just got a quick a couple sentences to tell us his backstory.
00:08:16
Speaker
I'm not sure if this is going to continue. I do like his character. um I like that he is force-sensitive in in a time when the New Republic is is right after what we're after. Empire, we're after um Return of the Jedi, so this is set right around the time of Mandalorian, right? So yeah, it could be yeah could be anywhere in this universe. Could even show up in the Mandalorian and Groku movie, we don't know. But um yeah.
00:08:43
Speaker
um Dexter was preempted this week. We didn't talk about episode six. We didn't talk about episode six last week. you know this moment what an episode Yeah, we'll talk about it a little bit. it's fun um yep Yeah, I don't remember much about it. It's been a week or so, but um it's a blowjob. Yes. That's the one thing I remember is Dexter gets a Hummer in the bathroom.
00:09:08
Speaker
um The other thing is I wanted to bring this up because we've been talking about the casting. They've been casting a lot of innerc city things in new york city um and the casting call this week was for line cooks and butchers for background roles in manhattan So, I should apply?
00:09:30
Speaker
wow I wouldn't, if you can go down there and spend some time down in New York while they're filming in the next month or two, go ahead. They are looking for extras. It's the worst job in Hollywood. You're just sitting, you're just sitting and doing nothing. You sit around for, did we talk about this last week? I feel like we did. No, I don't think so. But yeah, you literally just sit around for like 16 hours for like 20 minutes of work. I've heard it's pretty awful for like the fucking free ham and cheese sandwich.
00:09:57
Speaker
yeah Yeah, you don't get much from it. And ah if you make any movement, they can take you right off the set because they want you to be in an extra background, ye no noise whatsoever for the scene. um I watched a couple of things, a couple of documentaries actually.

Documentary Reviews: Jerry Springer and SNL 50

00:10:12
Speaker
Just brought it up in the beginning of the year. is like I don't think these documentaries are going to match up to what we got last year. But we got two great documentaries in the third week of January I want to talk about. First one is Jerry Springer fights camera action. This came out two-part documentary on Netflix. um This is very very good. Modern version of Roman Colosseum is what they kind of chalked up Jerry Springer to be. If you grew up in the 90s
00:10:38
Speaker
Jerry Springer was everywhere. He was on TV with smart television. and oh honestly we should have got sound clips from vince russo talking about watching jerry springer while he wrote wwe wwe television first Right.
00:10:49
Speaker
four years like they were yeah he just watched jerry springer and ri Yeah, and basically it was taking that audience for the mindless soap opera, smut television that was big. and I mean, Howard Stern was big back then. WWF attitude, like you mentioned, WCW, all came out of the shock value. um The influence on pop culture everywhere. It was everywhere. Everybody was going, Jerry, Jerry, still due to this day, whenever somebody gets in a fight.
00:11:17
Speaker
um
00:11:19
Speaker
In the beginning, He was fighting for ratings against Oprah. Oprah was huge in the 90s, early 2000s, huge in the ratings. Eventually he did top her becoming the king of daytime talk, which is huge for considering that she was badmouthing him in the press. The press was badmouthing him. He was getting in a lot of trouble. One of the things he got in trouble for in the in the documentary about, I think it was halfway through, there was a blind guy that came on the show and he married a donkey.
00:11:49
Speaker
And in the show, they actually ended up making out on the show. Well then, the donkey and him? Yes, and... Just clarifying, just making sure we got all the information correct. Yes. um It was controversial, of course. so it It was all over the news, all over the newspaper saying, oh, this is disgusting. How dare they? Controversial, yet it created a nationwide media outcry and eventually a buzz that brought more people in to watch the show and turned it into a legendary status. It's unbelievable what happened.
00:12:21
Speaker
Um, there was also a love triangle murder case where three people came on the show. Um, and one of the women that was in this love triangle with this another other guy and a woman, um, she ended up getting killed over being on the show and this big love triangle thing that was going on.
00:12:36
Speaker
And you got a lot of scrutiny of scrutiny scrutiny and scrutiny. That's it I'm I'm sick everyone so bear with me See I got a lot of scrutiny for that and He just died was it last year? Yes. Yeah, he just died. Yeah last year a year before There's a bunch of deaths since Covid that have happened. I just keep forgetting about right? the bri ma The show ended back 2018, I believe it's not that long ago. Show ended and he died not too soon after that. So ah great documentary. If you want to learn more about behind the scenes of how the show was created. um A lot of people thought it was a fake show. They were. they were I mean, it was new Jack for legitimately on it being paid to be something that isn't real. For the most part, the documentary makes it sound like the people that were coming on the show.
00:13:25
Speaker
were the ones that were manipulating who who what was fake and what was not. Everybody, as far as they were concerned, was real. Don't know how real they were talking, but um yeah, great documentary. It's on Netflix. um The other documentary and that I need to talk about, which left me wanting more, ah SNL 50 Beyond Saturday Night. This is a four-part documentary. This is on Peacock.
00:13:48
Speaker
um And the four episodes it's great. I was going into this. I was thinking well shit They're gonna talk about the whole history of how this show happened um It'd be great to see an episode talking about the Farley out of Sandler years Talking about how the show was created, but it wasn't done like that It wasn't done in a linear from the beginning to the end of of current times. It wasn't anything like that The first episode was all about the casting process the five-minute auditions that everybody goes through to get on the show and Talked about a lot about failed auditions, some of whom we've heard of, Jim Carrey, Jennifer Coolidge, Mindy Kaling right before The Office, Kevin Hart, we've heard of that one, Donald Glover, Childish Gambino, Jordan Peele before he got onto Mad TV. A lot of these guys are before they got onto Mad TV. Steven Colbert, who I think did an ambiguously gay duo later on for Robert Smigel. But before that, he actually he actually did an audition for the show. but
00:14:44
Speaker
um Second episode talks all about the writers room i talking about the table reads testing the material address rehearsal um Filming the pre-tapes the stuff that they do that's not in the front of the off audience And then eventually going live all within like five days a little bit a little bit more than five days to do all that Reminded me a lot of South Park South Park does their show within six days keeps it fresh and And episode three, this is where the non-linear part of it is, I was thinking, what's going on with this series? why are they Why are they separating it out like this? Well, episode three, they took one segment, probably one of their most famous segments ever on the show, the cowbell, more cowbell with Christopher Walken, Will Ferrell doing the cowbell and everything, everybody knows that, it's been on all over the internet.
00:15:30
Speaker
it's It's a meme. it's a It's a saying that everybody says online and in real life at the water cooler near more cowbell Well, they talked about this whole hour-long documentary of the more cowbell scene how it came to be They actually did a little mini documentary blue oyster cult in there, too um This is great. I'm in episode 4 talks about 1986. This is Ten years after the show debuted the 11th season and it was Lauren Michaels coming back after being gone for five years He left in 1980 came back in 1986 Because the show they just they just wanted a new guy to come in and they they they've said well Lauren knows what he's doing. Let's bring him in so they brought Lauren in and the whole entire cast of the 10th season which included Billy k Crystal and Martin Short some great comedic actors was all let go and they brought in a brand new cast for the 11th season a younger cast talking about bringing in people that were younger like the rat like the Brat Pack was big at this time he had breakfast club um so they were bringing in ah gambling on the breakfast club they brought in Robert Downey Jr.
00:16:41
Speaker
martin Anthony Michael Hall, who is his friend, that's why Robert Downey got brought in, Randy Quaid fresh off the vacation movies, um Joan Cusack, Damon Waynes before in Living Color, um Dennis Miller, John Lovitz, who ended up staying after this season, but pretty much everybody that was in this season, because it failed so miserably, the ratings tanked throughout the whole season because they didn't bring any comedians in.
00:17:07
Speaker
was all serious, like Robert Downey Jr. wasn't a comedian. He was just a serious actor. And you can't do that on a live show like this. It's full of improv. improv comedy you can't do that. um They had magic segments with Penn and Teller too that's kind of where they got their start through the American lexicon so um after this season ended everybody got fired except for John Lovitz and Dennis Miller they brought in a whole new cast the next year Dana Carvey and a lot of a lot of names that everybody's familiar with for the next 10 years so
00:17:39
Speaker
um Great documentary, but left me wanting more um where this tactile tackled little pieces of the history I would have loved to see something like if this continues I would love to see more I will see a whole episode on Farley a whole episode on anything like how they all got fired There's one one season where Farley Adam Sandler Chris Rock David Spade all got fired in one night Lauren Michael called them and so you're not coming back next season and this is when they were at their height This is when Adam Sandler had already didn't Billy Madison had the Gilmore Chris Farley was already had already done Tommy boy. They all got fired overnight. And I don't know if they didn't want to keep up with the pay or what it was at the time. This is like 95 96. But yeah, I'd love to see an episode on that. I don't know if this will ever I don't know if this will continue. I haven't heard any news on that or not, but
00:18:25
Speaker
And this also would've been around the time Sandler would probably be asking for a major pay raise. Yep, that could've been part of it. So I'm sure that's part of it on his end. Yeah, probably. It probably was part of it. So yeah, this is on Peacock. I recommend it. Four episodes, about an hour long. It's good to get into.
00:18:43
Speaker
um And you watched something I had no idea

Spotlight on Documentaries: UFC and More

00:18:46
Speaker
it was out. I just heard about it today when you put it in the notes um Dark side of the cage. We love dark side of the ring. Yes taking the UFC This is taking fighting cage fighting and and throwing it on its heels with ten episodes starting this week with kibbo slice which I've heard a lot about um Yeah, give your reaction to the episode It's fucking awesome. oh Nice. Especially, well, at least the first episode. I'm sure there's going to be some downers, because there's been so many fighters throughout the years. And with UFC, you're kind of in and out. um You try to keep up as much as possible. But of course, sometimes your favorite fighter will retire. Sometimes sometimes a fighter will like have a great like come up story where are you watch him for 10, 11 fights in a row. And then he gets the title and then drops it two fights later or whatever.
00:19:29
Speaker
um But yeah, this episode was great. Of course, Kimbo Slice famously basically started the online trend of just people fighting in the streets and then getting paid for it. all right Eventually moves into a another c into a cage organization um that ends up going bankrupt and eventually does find his way into the UFC via the UFC. um fight house or whatever they call their reality show and i don't think he won that season but he was popular enough to where if somebody gains enough popularity on that show they bring him back to the UFC under contract for very little i think he only had one i think he was signed for two UFC fights and only had one before he was released um he might have had two and then got released um yeah very good documentary um
00:20:17
Speaker
his son's on it. He had a son when he was still in high school. So his son's like got like gray hair now, like his son's like whatever 35. Um, but yeah, extremely good documentary. I mean, dark side guys, they all know what they're doing. Um,
00:20:32
Speaker
And they're very entertaining to watch. in well They do a ton of what they do it do a ton of research, but they also bring in a lot of people to do the interview. yeah just talking to yeah like They even had Dana White on it. Yeah, that's crazy. they They were back interviews. So it's not like they interviewed Dana for it, but they do like, they're able to use that type of footage, which is cool. um So yeah, it's very good. I definitely want to put that name. It was right over this fan of the UFC and would highly recommend it.
00:20:57
Speaker
We also have the episode lineup. um I don't know if you have it in the notes. ah yeahp won anything of Anything of notes on there that you want to bring up. I know there's one episode that I'm excited for. the um
00:21:08
Speaker
Final days of Evan Tanner because I'd seen him fight, but I wasn't a huge fan of him. I think he committed suicide. Okay. Um, ultimate fighter is the number one for me on this list. I mean, if I saw this list a week ago, it would have been camo slice, but as far as the remaining ones, ultimate fighter one is great. Cause that was literally, if that did not, that was WrestleMania for them. If that did not work.
00:21:28
Speaker
they would be out of business. um And of course, we got the famous Stephon Bonner, who's dead, fight with like the guy's name. But they just went out there and just beat the piss out of each other for 25 minutes on live TV. ah National TV, I think it was on FX. yeah So literally in front of everyone, they went out there and showed everyone like what the UFC is about.
00:21:51
Speaker
in the finale to that um and it's just an exceptional fight and it's kind of what the UFC became after that season is what that fight was um the Nick Diaz versus the world one is one you might want to watch uh Connor may be involved in that uh Nick and Nate Diaz are the Diaz brothers and they're fucking they're out of it like they're one of them talks like he got CTE when he was eight years old um they both I believe they both have their own like marijuana brand at this point, and that comes out on my birthday, so that's pretty sweet. It comes out on the fifth. Rise of pride and the fall of pride.
00:22:29
Speaker
to episodes are going to be awesome for me because pride was of course the Japanese promotion that got started after the UFC became big um and they had a huge uprise and of course that's the when we were doing the chill stuff about a year ago whatever that was um that's when he talks about the quote-unquote fake fights in Japan where the referees wearing an earpiece and tells the opponent when to go down so I can't wait for that shit um And this appearance of Ronda Rousey is going to be interesting because I don't know what they can really say about her. um um So then she lost and then went to WWE. Yeah, she lost and went to WWE and came back, whatever. um Also like when she was fighting.
00:23:15
Speaker
like she was the best because there was no one else and then once once the women caught up to her um same thing with hoist gracie when he was early days ufc when she caught up to her she was done um and trying from tragedy of matt hugh should be good he's one of the greatest i believe lightweight champions of all time um so i'm looking forward because i didn't know there was much tragedy to his story because a lot of times like i said you follow a fighter until he's done fighting and you just kind of You hear about his death five years later. like yeah That's basically the extent of it. um So I'm really looking forward to it because I believe that he was still with us. And then, of course, the downfall of the war machine is the what you are looking forward to. Yes, because that's the story I know about. Does he kill a hooker? He doesn't kill her. No, he was dating he was dating porn star Christy Mack, who's online. yeah And he beat the shit out of her.
00:24:05
Speaker
and uh really really did a number i think she lost a whole bunch of her teeth she had to get plastic surgery and and redo her whole entire face um he ended up getting arrested this was within the last 10 years end up getting arrested i believe is in jail now um but yeah it's a crazy story and uh She's hot, so. Yeah. This is our Teach Kev Co. about the UFC's talk. Because it's funny because you saw that and I completely forgot about that story until you brought it up. Yeah, it's one of the most famous stories in the last decade as far as beating up somebody. Watched a few movies. I'm going to talk about one I watched on Netflix

Movie Reviews: Back in Action and Wolfman

00:24:42
Speaker
today. It came out today called Back in Action. This stars Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz.
00:24:49
Speaker
um and It's a familiar spy action movie. ah It takes that same formula that you've seen over and over and over again. ah Reminiscent of spy movies of the past, but with an added tension of family dynamic with kids involved. um Directed by Seth Gordon. um He did a lot of TV. He did The Office, Parks and Rec, Modern Family Community, The Goldbirds, but he's also done films.
00:25:14
Speaker
The King of Kong, which we love, documentary, is his first movie, Fistful of Quarters. um Horrible Bosses, which we both love. um He had a couple of misses in there, Four Christmases, Baywatch, he also did Identity Theft, which is a decent movie, but um this stars Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, Glenn Close plays gar Cameron Diaz's mother, um Kyle Chandler, who's gonna be oh nice lanterns, and Andrew Scott, who played Andrew Scott played Moriarty in the Sherlock Holmes Netflix Sherlock Holmes with Cumberbatch. Oh, not the Enola Holmes, okay, the actual Sherlock Holmes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. With Cumberbatch and what's his name that played... It's not Jude Law, is it? Bilbo. Okay.
00:26:01
Speaker
No, no, he played Bilbo in the Hobbit. I can't remember his name. Michael, no. Martin. I can't remember his name. But ah yeah, it does set up a sequel kind of at the end. Cameron Diaz doesn't know who her father is or doesn't talk about her father throughout the whole movie and sets up that the sequel could be going to look for her father, so.
00:26:20
Speaker
Yeah, who knows. It was decent. Three and a half out of five. It's a good action movie if you want to watch it. Kind of getting raped with the reviews right now. But it's decent. You watched a movie yesterday, I believe. You went to the theater and saw Wolfman, correct? Yes. Do you want me to talk about this or do you want me to talk about it? I do. Okay, we'll talk about this. Okay. This movie is fucking awesome. Yeah.
00:26:45
Speaker
It's not the Wolfman tale that you have known Okay loved or you have not known and not loved because you have not watched the original movie. Um One like there's nothing about like the full moon um There's none of that bullshit to the poster up horror movie yeah which is funny that's in the poster but like it's not like you come down on a full moon okay the whole thing takes place over the course of outside like the beginning of the movie the whole thing takes place pretty much over the course of one evening like most of the movie um i don't want to give any spoilers i want you to see this movie and i can't wait for you to see it um yeah watch it the sound in the theater was fucking incredible and i saw an rpx um absolutely yeah i heard
00:27:31
Speaker
incredible. um Also, you get some sweet um do i say Yeah, I'm gonna say it you get some sweet wolfman on wolfman action is there's multiple wolfman in this which is kind of cool That's I've seen that in the trailer. Yeah, I saw the trailer. I've stayed away from all trailers Yeah, I've seen literally 13 seconds of a trailer when he gets scratched in the door um But it's cool because he slowly deteriorates into the wolfman and it starts with him like losing his teeth and then all of a sudden they start doing these things were like
00:28:03
Speaker
his wife's talking to him. He can't talk and his wife's talking to him. And she's like, baby, I love you. She's like, cause this whole thing is like to fix their marriage, get away, go to Oregon, fix their marriage. And she's like, baby, I love you. Blah, blah, blah. And like she keeps talking. And as she's talking, Lee went all who's fucking now my probably fifth favorite director working.
00:28:22
Speaker
does this camera trick where he takes the camera from behind her and as it goes like panning from left to right you go from her talking and like you can understand it to like just mumbles because it's from his point of view now so he doesn't understand what she's saying and like it gets brighter like you see like what he's seeing and then it like pans back and does the reverse very cool effect i loved it um the sound design on those scenes are incredible and every time they do it it's worse and worse and more into the wolfman persona um By the time shit kicks off in this movie, I care a lot for the family and their dynamic. There's a lot going on between the mother, the father, and the daughter.
00:29:01
Speaker
um The opening scene is very good. The opening scene is kind of like a flashback. um Yeah, I love this movie. Four and a half straight up for me. I didn't like i love the theater. and I was like, that's a four and a half. And usually by the next day, it subsides, but now I'm sticking with a four and a half. I really enjoyed it. Lee Winall is one of my favorite directors. Of course, he did Upgrade and he did Invisible Man. And um people are mad that this isn't like your typical like Wolfman story. And it's like, he's not going to just tell the same story.
00:29:30
Speaker
And in the theater it was me and this couple who I'm pretty sure were at the theaters the day the first one opened up in 1952. It's funny you bring up an older group of people because the next movie we're going to talk about, holy shit.

Musical and Biopic Reviews: Bob Dylan and Wicked Bitches

00:29:51
Speaker
yep We went and saw the beginning of the week, we saw a Complete Unknown, which we've both been very excited to see. Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothee Chalamet. This movie was excellent. Very, very good. And it started off with Timothee Chalamet, younger Bob Dylan, just learning, honing is honing his craft to become an artist, becoming a yeah a ah writer of music, folk singer.
00:30:16
Speaker
to the point where by the end of this movie he sounded so much like the Bob Dylan songs that we we've heard before it's fucking crazy he he yeah how he dived into this role and just landed into it very very good movie and like I mentioned in the beginning the theater was full of old people that were definitely around when Bob Dylan first came around. Old couples, there's one guy that was lost in the theater and his legs were hurting, so he was trying to stretch. His legs were cramping, yes. He wasn't all lost, although he did go to the wrong row, which is in the handicap row. But certainly an older gentleman who got cramps in his legs and was walking around pacing in the theater and was talking, and I don't know, he might have taken a phone call at one point.
00:31:00
Speaker
I can't be sure of that. There was a lot of talking in the theater. This is the most talking I've heard in a while. I want to do a movie. I want to do a movie solo. It might have been Saturday night and somebody had their fucking dog in the theater. Yeah, you can do that now. If you have a fucking laugh dog. Yeah.
00:31:18
Speaker
If you have a service animal, you can do that, I guess. But yeah, very good. Four and a half out of five for me. The rest of the cast was great. um I don't know who was better, him or Edward, because they were both fantastic. I gave the same score, four and a half. I love this movie. Like, this is what I seriously was. I almost went to see it again after Wolfman. I was thinking about it, but decided I needed to have a life. What's his name? Boyd Holbrook. Is that the guy's name who was in Wolverine? Was it Logan? yeah He was great as Johnny Cash.
00:32:09
Speaker
Um, great, great movie. Um, and I'm pretty sure I know what the next surprise review that you're going to be is in another great movie. Kevin finally watched wicked bitches.
00:32:21
Speaker
Okay. So my type of musical is something like a complete unknown yeah or rocket man. You know that. I know that. I know that. Yeah. The six people that listen to us know that. Yes.
00:32:40
Speaker
um Not huge on these stage plays turned musicals. um This movie was, as a movie, taking the music out of it it was very good. I did not care for a lot of the songs.
00:32:53
Speaker
um They were good. Like don't get me wrong, they weren't terrible. um But like the movie parts of this movie worked exceptionally well for me. um The songs were pretty good. There was one or two I really enjoyed. and I couldn't tell you the name of them. I'll have to listen to soundtrack at some point this week once I find my headphones. But um yeah, overall it's a four and a half. um I don't know if I'll ever go back to it as it is kind of long.
00:33:18
Speaker
But there's scenes I would definitely go back to and maybe skip just some of the songs I'm not a huge fan of, just those little set pieces. um But yes, overall, I really enjoyed this movie. It's going on my list of top... I'm not saying it's making the top 10, but it's going on my list of movies this year that are in contingent for my top 10 that I'll lay out once I see everything, which will probably be right before the Oscars.
00:33:41
Speaker
yeah But yeah, exceptional movie. Very surprised I had as much fun with it. For an almost three hour movie, it did not feel that way, which is weird because I don't like musicals. um But yeah, exceptional. Looking forward to the second one. I don't know if it's the second one in theaters. That'll probably come out though after I've done work, so I probably will. I'm assuming it comes out in October or November.
00:34:03
Speaker
November, Thanksgiving week. usually Okay. So i' for that, we'll go to the theaters. We'll fucking get some popcorn and touch each other. It'll be a good time. Might as touching each other apart. Maybe we may fall into it. So who knows? It just happened. that but the movie is really but not expect to The ending.
00:34:23
Speaker
Let's talk about the ending. What were your thoughts on her big, huge reveal of defying gravity at the end? I had known about that. But it was cool. I liked it. The Edible I took also helped me enjoy this movie, I think, because of all the goddamn colors. Halfway through this bit just kicked in, and I was like, all right, let's go. So ladies and gentlemen, four and a half with Edibles is what Kevin gave the record today. Four and a half with Edibles, probably at four without. Yes. Still see it. With that being said, let's get into the news.
00:35:01
Speaker
And it's not a new style with a trailer around it. Couple of trailers to talk about. um One movie I don't know what the fuck it's all about. I know it's ah based off a true story I believe. But it's Robert DeMiro facing...
00:35:17
Speaker
robert de niro I really don't know how I feel about it. yeah i don't know it's all about the downfall of the american mafia in modern times It's directed by...
00:35:30
Speaker
Very Levenson. Yeah, so that's why I'm interested more than anything because we're yeah, it looks interesting It's weird though because they I mean even though they're playing two different characters and obviously same actor I don't know they could have done more to make one look way different, but I feel like we didn't see enough of them to tell if that's gonna be the correct statement. I feel like it only focused, I only watched a little bit of the trailer, I watched it on my phone, because I don't like trailers. But from what I could tell, they didn't do a lot to distinguish the two, but that could just be because I was watching it on my phone at 10 a.m. Right, right. Another trailer came out, this actually looked really good, called The Monkey, written by a short story by Stephen King, produced by James Wan,
00:36:15
Speaker
ah Directed by us good Perkins. I don't know who that is and starring God, I can't remember his name, but he's been in a whole bunch of stuff ah Theo James um And he's he's ah he's great in in stuff. I've seen him in He's he's ah he's the lead of this movie looks really good. It's about this ah Have you ever seen them? Well, it's monkey right there on the poster if you're on YouTube. It's the monkey with the Symbols if here see that it's supposed supposedly it's haunted by the devil and it goes out to seek revenge and kills people. The trailer looks good. It comes out on February 21st. So it's Chucky but with a monkey basically. Chucky Chucky the monkey. Yep. um And a trailer that I was excited for this week. I think everybody was finally to see the full trailer for Daredevil born again. The show comes out on March 4th on Disney Plus.
00:37:09
Speaker
Continuing the Daredevil story that wasn't on Netflix. I'm guessing we don't really know where this isn't in Canon we just know that they're back in New York Wilson Fisk is gonna be mayor and um Yeah, and we know that we know that a white tiger is in this he is a he is a person who played him died in real life and um So he's gonna be in this is his last acting role and muse. I don't know the character I know that's a villain of this series. Yeah, I was happy because I it was able to reread this after all board again my gosh sweet Good excuse to reread born again. It's a good book sweet. Have you ever read before again? I have not I don't even think I have it nice. It's good ah So let's get into the rest of the news for the week ah box office last week denim thieves to won the box office with fifteen point five million dollars and
00:37:58
Speaker
um Mufasa one with second with 13.2 and Sonic 3 one with 11 million number three um Mufasa has surpassed 500 million dollars globally after four weeks of release good for one to two ah Has hit the 1 billion dollar mark in ticket sales um It's going to um so yeah um and Sonic 3 is now that is north North America's second highest grossing video game and right behind the Mario movie that came out a couple years ago. so um yeah um Rest in peace to David Lynch. oh god We are fans of fucking Weirdo. yeah Weird guy. lost though what a loss
00:38:41
Speaker
We were fans of Psych, so Dual Spires was a huge part of that show. And he created Twin Peaks, of course. um He also did Dune, the first Dune. um He was going to direct Return of the Jedi, and that whole thing fell apart. I believe it was Lucas' doing while he in. I can't remember the full story, but he was supposed to return to the Jedi.
00:39:03
Speaker
um He's done a whole bunch of TV, he did two two did series of Twin Peaks. Yeah, that's what it was. Rest in peace to peace to Jeanette Schwartz, a French director who directed Jaws 2.
00:39:20
Speaker
A movie called Somewhere in Time, which was Christopher Reeves and I believe Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. I can't remember her name. It's a time travel movie. It's a time travel movie. It's a time travel movie I want to see. He also directed Supergirl. We have some Supergirl news we're going to talk about later, but he directed the movie that came out after Superman 2. 1984? Yeah.
00:39:47
Speaker
yeah Now he was 85 years old, rest a piece to him. Uh, big loss this week is Bob Euchre. Yeah, this was a fucking, this week sucked. Yeah. 90 years old, of course, major league, just a bit outside, but every story you hear about, right from WrestleMania for you. Cause you grew up with Bobby Euchre more than I did, but What I, I knew Bob Euchre from, i know the story hey love right yeah i yeah I posted a story on my Facebook of Artie Lang and Norm Macdonald talking about Bob Euchre. And he had a mouth like a sailor. If you haven't seen the video, search on YouTube, Artie Lang, Norm Macdonald, Bob Euchre stories.
00:40:32
Speaker
And there's a great seven and eight minute clip about the stories of him being in the booth and muting the microphone to talk about all the chicks and in the stands. And look at the look at the look at the tits on that hose down. And then there's ah two balls once. I saw a quote today. I'm paraphrasing this because I don't have the exact quote, but his son was in like some like lily tournament or whatever.
00:40:54
Speaker
And he went like 0 for 3 and had like the era that cost him the game. And Yuko, everyone was booing us and yelling at us. And he goes, I've never been more proud as a parent of my life. Yuko was awesome. ah That guy was just his voice. and You only know his voice from like, as far as calling games, from where you saw in Major League. But I mean, he did that every year for the Brewers for like, what, 40 seasons. He was like the a voice of the Brewers forever.
00:41:20
Speaker
um I would have loved to have him be like a hometown, because he was very much like he was in Major League, just a little bit volume turned down when he was calling Brewers games, which I've always seen a few of him call. Yeah, Big Lost Baseball, Big Lost Cinema, I suppose. He did do some cinema stuff. The other thing. It would have been great if he could have taken over the spot in Happy Gilmore 2. That was his name for the prices, right? Could you imagine if that was Euchre? That would be great. Just swapped out one old man with white hair for another. Yeah, that would have been great.
00:41:50
Speaker
yeah The other thing that he was in, I don't know if you ever watched it, but back in the 80s, there was a show called Mr. Belvedere. He was a star of that as well. yes he wasn't And there's some great stories about Mr. Belvedere sitting on his nuts. If you ever want to listen to that, search Mr. Belvedere, Bob Euchre's stories. um So Neil Gaiman, we talked about Neil Gaiman a while ago. Creepy guy, a lot of sexual assault stars.
00:42:16
Speaker
Well, I don't know. ah Yeah, Vince McMahon's still worse. um Speaking of the record, he kind of came out talking about the allegations. um I didn't get any exact quotes. I i did hear about him, but um multiple women have have accused him of sexual assault. um Sandman, of course, is a big show on Netflix. Season 2's coming out soon sometime this year.
00:42:40
Speaker
and unfortunately mike get canceled for and i don't think it's gonna continue because this sucks because it's a great show it probably is a good show but it's a great story and there's yeah much more of the story to besides the season two like yeah gonna go first five seasons originally i want to say But yeah, it's unfortunate news, but ah Yeah, this this climate or any climate you can't you can't deal with shit like this and especially a company like Netflix So they have to they'll probably do what they have to do um speaking of Fucking things up tick-tock Going out of business this Sunday ah So they try to get the Supreme Court to rule them to in favor of not banning it but they denied it
00:43:23
Speaker
come on tiktok is everywhere i do love the quick videos but tiktok is not the app the app sucks um i'm gonna miss uh my boy uh anator on twitter he always makes dope uh dope shit about uh the prequel trilogy like his edits are fucking really good um so i'm gonna miss that part on it but ideally only have the app for when people send me stuff in you We have, uh, we have a new president coming on Sunday. This could all be the swerve of the century. Well, that's what they're saying. I mean, basically, um, from what I understand is, um, the president, current president, Mr. Joseph, I don't know, Bartholomew Biden. We'll go with that. Um, and Donald, Donald J Trump, there we go. Um, um, he basically was like,
00:44:18
Speaker
Not my problem, guy. Take it on, Donny J. That's what he did. That's basically what he said. That's what he said today. We'll see what happens. He's actually, from what I heard today, he talked to the he talked to the emperor or president of Japan or China. I guess it's China. And I talked to him and they're trying to come up with a solution.
00:44:40
Speaker
Who knows? Did you hear about the WAP that they released? That's basically TikTok? Yes. But 700,000 people signed up for it. But the licensing agreement is only in Mandarin. So like nobody knows what the fuck. What's that red? It's red something. I can't remember what the name of it is. I heard him talk about it on sports radio. um Speaking of Trump, speaking of presidents, oh that's our guy. We have we have new special ambassadors of Hollywood. New special. and sharp doty j We have new special ambassadors of Hollywood named by Trump, John Voight, Sylvester Stallone, and racist sexist Mel Gibson.
00:45:23
Speaker
He also thinks the Holocaust is fake. Who also thinks the Holocaust was fake? Yes. So, yeah, that's where we're at. That's where we're at, America. I hope you are happy come Monday when we have a new president. What do you say he wants these guys to be able to bring Hollywood back to like the Golden Age? He wants to make pretty much he wants to make Hollywood great again. That's what he said.
00:45:49
Speaker
Those are his choices. Those are his choices. Never against Trump. Not political against Trump. I'm against the... I think he's hilarious. I'm against the host of Celebrity Apprentice being the president. That's all I'm against. I'm all for the next fourth year as a fuckery. Bring it on. Yeah. What cat kiddies for Trump? You used to wear the kiddies for Trump badge. You used to wear the badge proud.
00:46:20
Speaker
Joel McHale has been cast as Scream 7. Going to be Sydney's husband is probably going to be the murderer as well. Yeah. Yeah. And where the fuck is what's his nuts? Um, the guy from Dexter. Uh, he played Mark in like fucking three.
00:46:35
Speaker
it's right like an i name
00:46:41
Speaker
That's the guy from step by step but patrick de dempsey yeah yeah yeah you're right. andve more just assumed you in this movie um but everyone who's back now that's weird except for jenna ortega and the one they fired je our course noting back because she has obligations to on my wednesday yes yeah um So now I guess, you know, we can put that to bed that she was only not going to be in it because Melissa wasn't going to be in it. I'm pretty sure she would still be in it if Melissa was fired. Probably. I don't know how I feel about this. Hopefully he dies and it's a great, great death. Great, great death.
00:47:17
Speaker
Speaking of great, great death, speaking of great, great death, Nosferatu comes out on digital on Tuesday. So I'm going to be watching it. and So next week we'll be talking yeah like full review to tell about that Yeah, I look forward to that. um Greta Gerwig.
00:47:34
Speaker
directed Barbie um and she's gonna be directing the new the new Narnia adaptation over at Netflix She got to deal with IMAX to release those on IMAX for the first two weeks of release before they show up on Netflix Good for her because that's the biggest or the worst part about Netflix Yeah, it is. No theater releases. um Say what you will about the Rebel Moon movies. I would have seen them in theater, because that's the best way to view Zack Snyder film. They need to get their shit together. And I've been saying this, because it works so well for Knives Out, is release a movie for two weeks, take it off for two weeks, and then drop it on Netflix. Or three weeks, or the last days in theater, drop it on Netflix, something like that. um I think it would work out best for everyone. Then you could also promise back end.
00:48:19
Speaker
um Or a little bit of back in anyways to to directors and people that work in the movies the actors ah Good for her actually getting this deal done getting into theaters because Netflix are assholes when it comes to that Uh, Goonies 2 and Gremlins 3 are in early development. and This is from a deadline article that I have yet to find. I've been looking for this article everywhere. I forgot to bring it up. I guess Christopher Columbus is coming in, or Chris Columbus, not the not the racist Spanish explorer, but Chris Columbus coming in and writing Goonies 2, I believe, or maybe it's Gremlins, I can't remember, but he's coming in for one of them.
00:48:59
Speaker
Um, these movies, especially Goonies 2, has been rumored forever. Um, there's supposed to be another take of it, and it was supposed to be filmed, I don't know, whatever. I think Gwenrins is being done by the son of the director of the first two. Okay. I thought. Unless he got cancelled, because that might have happened. Yeah, who knows, but yeah. Um, we'll keep an eye on that. Um, Severance. Never saw it. It's on Apple TV. Adam Scott, produced and directed by, um, Ben Stiller.
00:49:26
Speaker
um It's a popular show, um and they did a live um glass box in the middle of Central Station, Grand Central Station in New York. And they had the whole entire cast of this fake, I guess it's an office in the show, Lumen Industries.
00:49:43
Speaker
including Adam Scott and all the co-stars of the show. We're all in there for like an hour or so. I wanna start the show. I might watch season one this week. I've heard it's one that you have to stick with and it doesn't get very good until the end. But I heard it's very much worth it if you just stick with it. People get up on like episode two or three and then they went back and they said, okay, you have to get through like four or five episodes and then it kicks in. And I love Adam Scott. There's a sci-fi aspect to it, I believe, too. Yes. Something like that, so yeah.
00:50:12
Speaker
Um, we got our first look at Steamboat Willy in the horror movie played by David Howard Thornton, who is Art the Clown. Terrifier, yeah. Called, yeah, Terrifier. Um, this is uh, Screamboat Willy, I guess is what this one is. Um, but yeah. Okay, uh, Conan O'Brien.
00:50:33
Speaker
is going to be receiving a Mark Twain prize for human, human American humor, um just announced yesterday. um Conan just lost both of his parents like last month, all within days of each other. So yeah. Oh my God. Oh my God. and just want just Oh my God. We got some swag. I just, I just, oh my God.
00:50:56
Speaker
Stuff we all get come on son, you know, that's right Does does this image come with the cheap underwear? No, it does not but it does come with a a piece of kryptonite and the the forces of solitude we've got we've got Funko pops and of a lot of characters from the original Superman movie. um Lois Lane in her nightgown from the famous scene where they're flying in the air. We got Lex Luthor with a bald head. We also have all have Brando.
00:51:33
Speaker
le' cleching is fucking toopa in that phone I know. And we also have Brando as Jor-El. so yeah this looks awesome all of these so yeah we're gonna with the year of superman oh by the way i'm gonna be buying a lot of funcos i could just tell from i'll be buying at least okay i'm getting the fortress superman yeah i don't really care about or so i'm getting the lex clenching his toupee and i'm getting the juror l for sure i'll probably end up getting los you're gonna I'm a completionist. I see one Lex loser and I want the one shut the fuck up. I just want the one nice c touch of his fucking shut the fuck up every single one of these on yourself at the end of the year.
00:52:14
Speaker
I'm very excited Year of Superman by the way little homework assignment for both of us The last week of this month a couple weeks from now Let's tackle the Max Fleischer Superman okay cereals. I've already been watching him, so I'm deep involved and that's so Superman for all seasons will wrap up the month at the comic review but that book is Fucking incredible. and I've read it like four times in the last six months Yep, so we're gonna start our year in Superman in just a couple weeks, so stay tuned. Perfect. Um, got a brand new announcement for the Switch 2, the yes least secretive release ever for Nintendo. This leaked everywhere, week weeks, weeks before, but we finally got the official look at it. Tada, there it is. Looks like the Switch 1 is a little bit bigger, a little bit better. Um, I have lost my mouse. Hold on a second. Are you still there?
00:53:07
Speaker
How did you lose your mouse? Uh, I think it died. There we go. Oh, okay. You mean the mouse died? Yep. Um, so yeah, there it is. I figured out a better way to plug it in. Like, can they add the things you can plug it in here instead of here so you can actually use it when it's plugged in? Well, I have my, I have my touch to the, uh, the touch pad, which is better, but, um, cool.
00:53:27
Speaker
and we also got a new mario game announced mario kart 9 i'm buying it i'm buying the switch 2 and the mario kart here's some renders of everything what it looks gonna look like at a new kickstand of course we talked about it before the uh the controllers are going to be magnetic instead of having the stupid slide on shit that used to be can they fix their online situation slash the situation in which Your games don't save anywhere except for in the switch. So if it dies, you're fucked. I'm pretty sure. for me I'm pretty sure they're going to be doing a whole, including press going up. They're going to be doing the whole overall of Nintendo Online. So we'll see about. I hope so.
00:54:04
Speaker
But yeah, um not there yet. hu Slow down, reverse it. So yeah, very excited. I'm very excited for the Nintendo Switch. ah The rumor is that the prices are going to be around $449. So expensive, one of the mostten the the most expensive Nintendo system. and yeah Almost $500 with the Mario Kart bundle. It's going to come out around the time I've done work, which means um your bonu bonus time.
00:54:29
Speaker
go so fuck um When the original switch launched, there's $150 more than that. so ah yeah' it's They're getting high and high in price, not sparse. You'll be able to trade in your original switch if you want, because I'm assuming this is back compatible. Usually. I think early February they're going to have the specs out, I think. so I'm assuming it's backwards compatible, which would be a small way to do things.
00:54:57
Speaker
This there's a spec announcement coming out on February 2nd I believe it's April there's and then in April there's gonna be are games games every announced in February and more specs are come on April I can't see what I heard something what I heard is the American systems fucking everything up So she they're gonna be okay on to 425 or for 225 Is what I heard right? Yeah, who knows? Yep um I didn't hear about this until this week. I guess there was a prominent chief, marketing chief of Warner Brothers. They got fired just a couple of weeks ago. Um, and they fired him right before this big, huge, busy year than Warner Brothers. All these gambles that they're going to be taking for all these, uh, this slate of films are coming out, including of course, we know Superman, but Mickey 17, the Frankenstein movie, the sinners movie, Ryan cooler centers, um, the bride with Maggie Gyllenhaal.
00:55:53
Speaker
See, there's a lot of big movies where they fired this marketing chief. Don't know why um They also get this Leonardo DiCaprio movie that's cost 130 million dollars to me. So yeah, I don't know I have no idea what this is all about But I wanted to bring it up see if you knew anything about it. but I don't um really know but here's where I know got fired. Okay, and um Certain fan base is celebrating um Right. But i I'm sure honestly, with a lot of this stuff, they already have marketing figured out. Maybe not the stuff till the end of the year, they hadn't started marketing. But I mean, they've been marketing Mickey 17 for three months. Superman is not getting any more additional marketing. I'm sure they've already planned that out. um Plus, this guy is a Warner Brothers guy. So he probably would have been helping with DC stuff. But I have no idea how that works or if James has his own marketing people. But um yeah.
00:56:52
Speaker
We'll see. um The Director of the Flash, which is named... Annie Machete. Annie Machete. Talking about why the Flash flopped.
00:57:02
Speaker
Yeah, because people don't care. Yes, people don't care about the character, especially women don't care about the character. He should not have said that. And I understand he speaks a different language. A lot of these podcasts are coming from ah Spanish speaking podcasts when he talks. Just things may be lost in translation as to what he meant, but he should probably not have said that. Plus, Grant Gusty, it was a great flash. and People loved him for nine seasons, mostly.
00:57:30
Speaker
um James Mangold speaking about Swamp Thing, his movie he's gonna be directing. Gonna be Gothic Horror. Zach's quote was, while I'm sure DC views Swamp Thing as a franchise, I'd be viewing it as a very simple, clean, gothic horror movie. So in other words, fuck your unified universe, um which would be standalone. I love this. um I love that they're operating more under the guise of an actual movie studio, where they're taking pictures and they don't have to work that character in, they just want a good movie. And they can make a Swamp Thing movie for like 80 million dollars and have it be awesome.

um So I do like that it's not going to be fully connected, because that also allows the the artists and the creators to work outside the zone of, because I never saw a Swamp Thing as being a member of the Justice League or anything, unless they eventually do Justice League Dark. um but like muhi But he's going to do his own thing, the Swamp Thing, and James can always bring the character back, he won't be involved, but if they need do just to do a Justice League Dark or needed of them for another another movie, they can always bring them back, because there's already a Swamp Thing movie that It was successful three years before So that's one thing I look forward to um but Yeah, he basically is saying fuck your shared universe and fuck Canon basically, I'm gonna do my own thing and it's probably gonna be a better movie for it as for as opposed to forcing things into it, so
