Welcome to 2025: Movie Plans and Recent Watches

00:01:26
Speaker
Hey, let's what's happening? How are we doing? Not much in a new year. Welcome to 2025 people. Is your hair going long or what? It is getting long. I appreciate everything.

"Shrinking" Season Finale and Comparison to "Ted Lasso"

00:01:37
Speaker
Um, bri yeah i we're break down the whole entire slate for 2025 in a little bit, but first we're talking about what we watched this week. Um, we had a finale shrinking ended this week.
00:01:51
Speaker
ah last week. We didn't talk about the episode before, but um not much to talk about the penultimate episode, but the finale um happened i mean pretty much what what I've been saying all season happened. Jason Siegel's character ended up meeting up with by Goldstein's character.
00:02:09
Speaker
and in weird circumstances if you haven't seen the show I kind of don't want to spoil it but I do but um let's just say they met and next season chances are Jason Seagull's psychiatrist character or whatever he is is going to probably take on the Brett Goldstein's character as a patient yes that's what it seems like it's going for yeah and I can't wait I love the show um When my sister was here for Christmas, she asked if I had watched it. And I was like, I'm the one that fucking recommended it to you. um um So yeah, we talked about it. They absolutely love it. um Because they were watching Ted Lasso when I was down there in March. And I recommended this show immediately. And they like this show more than Ted Lasso. And honestly, I like it way more than Ted Lasso.
00:02:58
Speaker
Lasso was great, but a Lasso was also very, this is very similar to Lasso. I just like the characters a little bit more.

"Skeleton Crew" and Star Wars in Family-Friendly Space

00:03:03
Speaker
Even though Lasso had some great characters. I just, this is more, more serious, I guess you could say. Yeah. And there's a lot, there's a lot to it. Yeah. But both, both shows have great ensemble cast too. um great And this season had Brett Goldstein, and of course Brett Goldstein is the, the lead, like the best part of Ted Lasso. So episode five and six of Skeleton Crew.
00:03:27
Speaker
I've been saying it all all the time. I hate calling the show The Goonies, Star Wars The Goonies in Space, but that's exactly what it is. However, like what are your thoughts on the show? We're we're six episodes in now. What are your thoughts on the show so far? It's still in Star Wars. You feel in. Yeah, I mean, this is probably honestly, since Disney took over, the one thing George Lucas would probably watch and approve. Yeah. like Yeah. Yeah. Because a lot of people forget, like,
00:03:57
Speaker
We saw the original trilogy when we were younger. A lot of people forget that Star Wars literally is for kids. It's like when you're an adult and you're watching, say, the prequels like we were, basically adults, we watched the prequels. They don't hit like you are if you're 10 years old. um Same with the sequel trilogy. If you're 10 watching that versus 30 watching that because you grew up on the prequels, you think the prequels are great. I mean, Star Wars is for kids.
00:04:21
Speaker
um So, I love that plays into it. um I really like this show a lot. um I'm one episode behind, but I have enjoyed every every episode I've watched.
00:04:33
Speaker
Yeah, Jude Law has been great in this. Oh, yeah. um He's a great actor. Great. um Great yu fitting into this role. We're really not sure. I mean, he's a pirate of some sort. We're not sure if he has Jedi powers or if he's manipulating with make mechanics, the force.

"Creature Commandos" Origins and DCU Connections

00:04:48
Speaker
We have no idea what's going on at this point. But um yeah, setting up a good couple of episodes left of that um creature commandos, episode five and six, episode five was all about Frankenstein's origin.
00:05:02
Speaker
um And we also meet clay face which was been in the trailers since the very beginning the Batman villain from the animated series way way back that passed out before that but This is the first time he's been in live action and for me because I haven't seen any of the new stuff I know he's been in a few things Since then, but since the 90s, since I watched the animated series, this is the first time I've seen Clayface on screen. So it's really cool. And of course, we know that in James Gunn's DCU that there will be a movie. Mike Flanagan, who did all the, we talked about him back in Halloween.
00:05:34
Speaker
um who did all of the Dr. Sleep and he did all those Netflix horror house movies, is going in a direct-to-playface movie. Not sure, is that in the DCU proper, Elseworlds? What is that? DCU proper. DCU proper. So chances are, continuation of what happened in this season. so Yeah.
00:05:53
Speaker
Um, episode six came out a couple days ago yesterday and it's Dr. Frost for us is origin. This is a character. One of my favorite characters on in this show is if you look at the poster, there is a glowing guy, the skeleton with the on blanking on the guy's name, but he's a real son of a bitch. The guy that turns him into Dr. Frost. Yes, he's a Batman guy. be Oh my God. yeah He's a real son of a bitch in this episode. Speaking of Batman spoilers, we got our first glimpse at the DCU Batman and it looks like Ben Affleck.
00:06:23
Speaker
It does, a lot of people are saying that. This is such a silly wet though, I mean, people are like, there's gonna be trunks in it, and they're like, oh, our first look at Batman, but technically our first look was in the Nightmare episode a few weeks back.
00:06:36
Speaker
yeah um To me, to all of that, I say, he's Batman. He has more than one suit. So in one of his long ears, and the Pattinson cowl, and the next one, it's the Baflic look. um great thing about was That was awesome. The great thing about it is, it shows his power in this universe, too, because Dr. Phosphorus in this episode is shown to be an invincible foe Who can take him down? Motherfucking Batman shows up, but it's like nope Yeah, yeah so I'm excited. We got a finale next week. It's gonna be the um the origin of Nina, um I believe the princess is involved in that origin too and by the looks of the trailer that came out. um James Gunn did go on there talking about the Batman suit, saying that um um when they first showed him the Batman suit, it was fully fledged. And then he wasn't ready to commit to that, so he did, like you mentioned, put it into a silhouette. I did want to mention that too. yeahp um Also, while we were gone, it was renewed for a season two.

Catching Up on "Dexter" Series and Prequel Announcement

00:07:42
Speaker
James Gunn actually went on Twitter and posted a Twitter with weasel with a Santa hat happy holidays But yes, they're gonna be a season two of that. So yeah, they're they're doing the seasonal run of these shows, which is great I I wonder if weasel dies next episode I could see him dying because the princess looks very much like the girl in his flashback episode. Yes oh and also the whole nobody's gonna play two characters type thing. oh Right. So we'll see. deck is so Technically, he should he should have already been dead from suicide squad. So, so yeah, we'll pop up at the end. Yes. Um, where are we at Dexter?
00:08:24
Speaker
We are four episodes behind on the podcast. We're going to talk about them briefly. Um, episodes two through five. well Um, you were, I talked briefly about them last time we were on, right? we're out Yeah, we're going to talk about them in full now.
00:08:36
Speaker
Episode two, we see Kid Dexter flashbacks. The 90s soundtrack of this show is what I'm attracted to the most, including the guy who plays Dexter, who is a Scottish actor, has all the mannerisms, has the voice down for Michael C. Hall completely. Yep. Brings you right into the narrative. I told you two of those two episodes you didn't get to last week. His mannerisms when he's talking to her friends are just so Michael C. Hall. It's unbelievable.
00:09:06
Speaker
Yeah. Episode three, LaGuardia debuts, played by Christina Milian. And the reference of him going in with a fake ID with Patrick Bateman, that's his name. yep um Patrick Bateman, of course, you know, from American Psycho, Christian Bale, and that character. That was an alias he used in the first book.
00:09:30
Speaker
yeah And I believe he used it later on in like Dexter season six or seven I want to say at one point but a lot of parallels a lot of parallels between the characters, of course, so um And these in episode four Dexter's reaction to a child's death when when Dexter see his kid died dead on the pavement um He kind of has a break. He kind of breaks down a little bit um and Joey pants Joey Pantalone whatever his name is he's been in Sopranos he's been in the matrix been a whole bunch of stuff he'd had a cameo in this episode um ends up getting killed not by Dexter kind of by Dexter was going to get killed by Dexter ran away from Dexter cuz Dexter is still new to this didn't have him tied down right didn't didn't knock him out correctly so he ran away and got run over by a car um
00:10:19
Speaker
yeah that was pretty good yeah And episode 5 today picked that up where dexter's sha and de Dexter is um, well the biggest part of this episode is he eats six pot brownies and he's high off his ass. Yep. But him and him and Deb have this kind of sibling moment that they don't usually have because doctor's innovations all went away when he was high off his ass. He had nothing, nothing running through his mind anymore. So yes. Close, close to our connection together. Basically what they're telling us is weed will save people from serial killers. Yes. that was awesome he was like i just wanted a snack and she was like one of those is gonna make you high like you ate six i was just rewatching the episode we were waiting to get on here because i was charging everything um and while we were gone another thing that was uh announced dexter prequel for the trinity killer
00:11:14
Speaker
Starring John Lithgow is the inner voice of his younger self from the a Trinity episode this Trinity season Which is of course everybody knows it's it' amazing and I didn't want to scroll the notes cuz I like to go in fresh But James Romare also on for it. Yes. Yeah, it's in the notes. Yeah, we'll be talking about that but Yeah, though we'll talk about ye yeah that's that's awesome. And we kind of figured Batista will be there we've been hoping that everybody's coming back so it seems like it seems like all the all the arrows are pointing there and Even get Quinn back, even though he has a low T-cell count. Ooh, he looks bad. If you follow him on Instagram, he looks like he's a skeleton. He's a jack skeleton. He's shrinking constantly. yeah and he He posts weird pictures. like He's in New York City, I believe. They post pictures on his Instagram of him like going by mirrors and going by dumpsters with the reflections or puddles. It just shows him in the reflection of the puddle. He's a weird guy. um What if season three, the series ended,
00:12:11
Speaker
in a whimper. This show is the show on paper. I always loved the concept of what if it's kind of on paper and execution has been terrible on paper. Like the amount of things you could do with this concept are unbelievable. And they go with the worst concepts they could do as far as I'm concerned. But it's also, I think they're trying to be light with it because they don't want to go deep into the lower. I mean, they could easily have done a Wolverine like the end of this episode. I'll talk about it a little bit now before we get into the whole breakdown, but At the end of the series, they show a whole breakdown of a whole bunch of different characters. In fact, I think I have them here. um okay with there there's dexter um there's post for what if um Number one, these are all the characters this is the characters at the end I'm going to talk about in a minute, but I want to bring this up first. These are all characters that were debuted in the final moments of What If.
00:13:02
Speaker
Variants of Thanos Wolverine like what why didn't we have a Thanos Wolverine episode? and It's just wasn't storm in this this season Shung Chi Iron Man. Yeah. Yeah, I'm gonna get it into that in a minute. There's a shung chi Iron Man Like why didn't we have that but yeah, I'm gonna i'm gonna break this down here um Episode one mecha Avengers. They're basically Power Rangers Zords versus a Godzilla Hulk and um And there was a slo-mo luffarignal sound effect from the 80s. It was in this episode is really cool um episode 2 Agatha
00:13:36
Speaker
meets Kingo in the 1950s Hollywood, um and she's trying to suck off a celestial, and she's trying to get all the celestial's pallet, or that's the one that's underneath Earth that we find in these internals. That's why I put it there. um Red Guardian stops Bucky from killing Tony Stark's parents, and Lawrence Fishburne's Goliath came cameos. What was it? Ant-Man and the Wasp. Lawrence Fishburne was in that movie, and he used to have tech to be a giant man.
00:14:04
Speaker
And in the comic books, his name is Goliath. In this episode, he actually debuted in the in the suit and everything. Episode four, Darcy and Howard the Duck have a baby and the who tired about this episode the whole entire episode, they're chasing an egg. They have an egg and they're chasing it throughout the galaxy because the egg is all and has so much power to it that the the collector Everybody wants this egg, and all the villains, there's a whole bunch of villains from the MCU pass come in to try to chase down this egg. And by the end, the egg gets hatched. Agent Coulson makes a cameo in this. The song, I Was Made For Loving You by Kiss is played throughout the whole entire half hour of this episode. Weird fucking episode. However, it did debut a new character, which we're gonna get into in a minute, named Birdie, the daughter of Darcy and Howard the Duck.
00:15:01
Speaker
Episode 5, Riri Williams fights an Iron Federation at the end of time. um After a celestial emergence destroys Earth, the one that was in Earth actually gets birth, destroys the whole entire planet, and it's it's ah it's an outlaw apocalyptic world afterwards. um All led by Quentin Beck. We actually have a Spider-Man character as the main villain of this episode. um Of course, Quentin Beck is Mysterio.
00:15:27
Speaker
um And White Vision comes back and this too is kind of the kind of working for Quinton Beck or Quinton Beck controls White Vision. um And the Watcher interferes to save Rerue Williams' life, but he's being watched by others in his race, other Watchers, and that's where this episode leaves off. Bringing us into Episode 6, 1872, Cowboy Avengers, pretty much.
00:15:52
Speaker
um And at the end of the episode the washer is captured for meddling in multiverse affairs um He's struggling the whole time, but he's just overpowered by these three other watchers um And we get into episode 7 and 8 which is the finale of this series um And as the washer is held for meddling with a multiverse Captain Carter assembles a team the comic book they're called the exiles they're called the exiles here too because they're Variants of the multiverse that are they're brought in to be exiles I can't there's like a in it in the comic books. There's like an animated wolverines whole bunch of different ones in this one It's the Native American superhero those days that debuted in season 2 kawari and now adult birdie the duck who had superpowers
00:16:40
Speaker
um And storm from X-Men 97 as goddess of thunder. She has Muramir Thor's hammer And of course captain Carter's leading the team there is a can there's a whole bunch of cameos on the foosball There's a little foosball table that show in this episode and you see for the first time in the MCU beta rebuild Galactus and Fantastic Four and a few other X-Men characters too. So they're kind of bringing it in a little by little. And and like I mentioned, I think Feige did not want to give the full reins to this series. And then we get into the finale. um And we actually find out what the Watcher's name is Watu.
00:17:17
Speaker
If you know the comic books that's been his name for ages, um the exact quote of these says, I'm not no one, I am a WATU because all the other Watchers are trying to take him down and he overpowers them and this new team overpowers them and they become Watchers. Very strange, weird ending to this series. um and But the greatest part about it on the on the right of the pictures there is Kirby Crackle. When they're depicting the space battle, they actually show a bunch of Kirby Crackle, which hasn't really been done in the MCU and that's what um Jack Kirby did for back in the 70s 60s to show space to show cosmic powers um He did this weird bubble technique with the black the yellow and the red which is really cool in the episode I thought it played out. Well overall um I'm glad it's over. I think I think they went too far I I wish like glad it's over put that on the poster
00:18:11
Speaker
I wish that we saw more of this. I wish we saw Hulk Doctor Strange. I wish we saw Iron Man Punisher. This stuff that we didn't see, they didn't go that deep into it. There's a ghost rider fucking flaming up with a horse. it looks I can't even tell. And maybe Black Knight actually, which hasn't really even debuted in the MCU yet. But overall, um animation style is good, but ah yeah, they just should' have they should have went a little bit further with it. um Season 2 of Squid Game. I liked it. yeah I just watched season 1 not too long ago, so it's fresh on my mind.
00:18:52
Speaker
a couple weeks ago actually, and I like the ensemble of the cast. I watch it dubbed because I don't want to read anything. um yeah i know I know a lot of anime fans are very much against that, or or Japanese fans or whatever, are very much against not reading the subtitles, but I can't do it. um My favorite character of the season is Thanos, he's the guy on the right. He is a, I believe a,
00:19:18
Speaker
Korean pop star who got into trouble for marijuana he spent he spent 10 months in prison for because they have outlandish laws over there for marijuana um and he he was pretty much ostracized from the business over there but the guy that did squid game hired him to be this character and I think he was a standout star besides the lead who was Saul in Star Wars yep um I think this guy is a standout did you end up watching guy I have one episode left. oh okay bru though I agree, he's by far away one of the best cast characters. Yeah, I think so too. He's awesome. But we saw Russian Roulette in this, ye taking that heat taking the games from the inside.
00:20:02
Speaker
Saul Saul what you know goes into the game again I don't even really know what his name is in the show because they're all foreign names, but um he goes into the games to try to infiltrate the and try to take down the one who's who's Take down the games and try to take it in from the inside um the player and there there's a player rebellion which i think you've seen and the post credits tease because there is going to be a third season because this ended up on a quick quick uh quick cliffhanger the post credits scene is this poster right here two dolls of course if you know red light green light from the show there are two dolls with a red light green light set up for the next game and this comes out sometime in 2025
00:20:49
Speaker
I believe it leaked that it's coming out at the end of June. June 27th, I think I saw. Nothing official, though, but... um Yeah, good show. I'm glad I watched it a couple weeks ago, I'm glad I'm caught up on it, so I cannot wait to see the... I'm guessing it's the the final part of this story. I know they're gonna go um they're gonna go American, I've heard that. um James Mangold, there's the big director.
00:21:14
Speaker
Fincher right wasn't a fincher fincher. Yes. like I couldn't remember what was um, and it was a big director But yeah, somebody's coming in and they're gonna do an American version of squid game So yeah continuing the story huge for Netflix huge pro huge property for them. So that's cool um Let's get into the movies. What we watch while we're gone this movie. We were holding off for a year and the whole door you have been i watched it last year and i fucking love this movie with all my heart well it looks feels and most importantly sounds like a nineteen seventy s drama right down to the cinematography
00:21:48
Speaker
yeahp the the it's not a full widescreen movie it is a letterbox or a uh not a letterbox what do they call that it's a full screen kind of this yeah four three but i think it's a little bit wider than four three yeah um but yeah it it just looks like it was made in the 70s and and What the fuck's his name? Paul Giamatti? Paul Giamatti, holy shit. um He is just built for this movie as far as the time after. This movie is definitely written for him. like he Divine. He is incredible. Divine, which I think is her name, is the the lady that runs the the the food the cafeteria.
00:22:29
Speaker
yep She's in Only Murders in the Building. She plays the police officer in that show. yeah She's amazing in that. She's amazing in this too. I believe she won an Oscar for this or she was nominated for one. I think she won. I think she won. Yeah, I think she won. Best Supporting Actress. Very good movie. Also, there's two scenes, two things I wanted to bring up. The scene where the kid, there's one kid that's in the poster right there that gets, they have to have a holdover between Christmas and New Year's.
00:23:00
Speaker
He dislocated his shoulder and it looks like he really he must have a dislocated shoulder in real life or something because they pop it into place. It looked like it was off of his fucking arm. It looked like it was hanging. um and That was so painful to watch. and The other thing I want to bring up is candle pin bowling.
00:23:18
Speaker
Which is a New England thing. We we don't think of it because we've been around it our whole entire life. right I don't think I've ever seen it in a movie before ah until this movie where I actually saw the cable pin, which is 10-pin bowling. I think it's 10-pin bowling with little balls. A very good movie and I'm excited we watched it this year. It's ah another the perfect, most Christmas christmas movie. like It's great to watch between Christmas and New Year's.
00:23:40
Speaker
Cause that's mainly when it takes place. Like a lot of it does take place until Christmas, but it ends like January 2nd or 3rd. Yeah. Um, yeah. I went and they go back to the perfect post-Christmas Christmas movie to me. Cause it's a Christmas movie, but it doesn't have like the feels like you get from a lot of Christmas movies. But I love this movie with everything I have. Yeah. yeah It felt more, it felt more more to me like a period piece. Like set like you felt like you were in the seventies watching it. Yes. A hundred percent.
00:24:05
Speaker
probably my favorite not my favorite Probably one of my top 10 movies of the year. Surprise hit for me was Carry On. And a lot of people are mixed on it, but I thought it was really good. um Fucking incredible. Yeah, I thought it was really good. I think incredible. Down to the cast. Until I did not like the end, but whatever. Everything until the last 15 minutes I loved. And also, the one thing I did like is they showed us, it's not like a post-credits scene, but it's like after all the action's over, he's on a vacation with this friend that he got. The baby. That to me was awesome.
00:24:40
Speaker
Um, it's all about this, this kid who works at, at, uh, at the airport, doing security, played by Taryn Gillen, uh, Taryn Gillen. He's been there a few months or no, a few years. Yeah. And he, he's been there for a few years. He's not getting any races or any promotions. And he has no ambition either. That's the thing. Right. He has no ambition. Like he's mad he's not getting raises, but he has no ambition at the same time. So they won't give him a raise. Um, his boss, of course, is played by Hank Schrader from Breaking Bad.
00:25:03
Speaker
Yep, yeah, Dean Norris is in this, Theo Rossi is in this too, who we've been talking about lately, he's in Penguin. And Jason Bateman, who does an incredible fucking job in this show, he's a villain. And this is, I hate, I hate, I hate comparing movies to other movies, but this is Die Hard at an Airport. That's exactly what it is. Well, I mean, Die Hard at an Airport is Die Hard 2. Die Hard 2, yes. But this is, this is pretty different.
00:25:30
Speaker
but what i've been telling people is that this is like if you want to see a throwback like ninety s diehard like movie watch carrie on um you'll have a good time you'll have a free time someone for it it's just very and for're very well done there's a bunch of twists oh and also it one of those like what would you do this type of situation um Right. Because obviously neither of us are here or like, like, this is even more than like diehard, like, what would you do in this type of situation? Like, he's literally just somebody that couldn't like, go further in life. He's kind of stuck in this TSA job. And then this shit happens. And it's like, do you risk 250 people on the plane or the woman you love this carrying your child?
00:26:11
Speaker
um Yeah, I liked this movie except the ending is a little bit outlandish, but then again you watch a movie like this Yeah, and you watch a movie like this and you're like, you know what fuck it. Let's just have fun. Throw in some popcorn grab a soda ah far so It's a great it's the perfect Netflix movie Yeah, also, it's on Netflix. So if you have Netflix, you can watch it for free. And it's not behind a paywall, which is some fucking movie I'm going to talk about. We'll talk about that at the end. Heretic, another movie you got me to watch. I think you watched a few weeks ago and I said, well, wait, we'll talk about it when I watch it. This came out about in the middle of the year. You started to hear the buzz about it with Hugh Grant. It came out like September, August, towards the end of the year.
00:26:56
Speaker
ah We started hearing about Hugh Grant's performance in it. Topher Grace had a cameo in this too, but mostly yes the movie is run through i hugh Hugh Grant, which ah we've talked about him before.
00:27:09
Speaker
Hadn't been around up until Waka, and he he it was huge in the 90s. He did all those movies, all those ah romantic comedies, ah Four Weddings and a Funeral, I think Notting Hill was him too. um But the movie's all about faith, divine intervention, ah religious ideology, history repeating itself, belief versus disbelief. um Are we living in a simulation was one aspect of this as well. um And fear leading to control fear of the church fear of religion leading to them controlling. Yeah I don't want to give away the big like spoilers and I really think people should watch this movie sorry yeah it's Very good very good movie up to his performance. He does a great Jar Jar Binks impression Yeah, it's ah it's good and if you want to see it it's streaming now
00:28:03
Speaker
um We were supposed to go to the movies while we were gone, we did not. um But I did watch a movie you watched a year ago. The Voyage of came yeah the Yes, The Voyage of the Demeter. And I did go the movies, I will talk about that in a minute, but yes, go on. Yes, yeah we're going to talk about that, the movie, that reason why I wanted to watch this.
00:28:23
Speaker
yeah um Cory Hawkins, who was Dr. Dre in the Straight Outta Compton movie, and of course he was in the Heights as well. Liam Cunningham, who was in Game of Thrones after season and two on, um and David Dux Machin, who I love. I mean, and everything I've ever seen him in, I think, yeah and he's great in this too. yep All about, it's based off an excerpt of of the captain's log chapter from Bram Stoker's... Yes, it's one chapter in Bram Stoker's Dracula. One chapter. And it's the tale of Dracula's travel from Transylvania to England, all while ah terrorizing the crew of the ship, the Demeter, um and terrorizing and destroying the ship and so on and so forth. um The writer of this movie took interest in a miniature of the Demeter that they used in the 1992 Francis Ford Coppola Dracula movie.
00:29:17
Speaker
um And again writing an alien inspired film set aboard a ship and that's what this ended up being um I'm not sure the exact excerpt from the book I'm not sure it was a whole like full-size full-fledged chapter or what it was but it was from what I've okay I don't read yeah, I don't either i listen but um Yeah, this this is a very good very good horror movie on a ship I believe the cast of this was was ah was was superb too. Kinda leaves it open for a sequel if I remember correctly. The sequel is Dracula. but Yeah, well yeah. By me they could do more of these.
00:29:55
Speaker
And also, the review that you want to talk about, you're going to give your reactions to it because I have not seen it yet. But in the movie, I'm very excited for Nosferatu. You did see it in the theater. And the cast, the cast, the cast looks amazing. I was high on it. But Robert Eggers, you've you've warned me before in the past, hit or miss. um I've been hearing over Over overall fairly well things about it. So what are your what are your initial reactions leave in theater yesterday or this week? Well Robert Eggers to me like you said it's kind of all of his movies are so well filmed Like you can't give any of them like a bad score because they're just so well made so well filmed Well written everything about them are great castings always on point.
00:30:41
Speaker
Um, Lully Rose Depp in this. Yes. Fucking phenomenal. Absolutely owns the screen. Um, I was talking to a friend about this cause like she really hasn't had great performances. Um, and we' we're joking like she was in, um, of course you got to start in yoga hosing of hoses, Kevin Smith's daughter is like best friend. Um, and to be the charmer of Kevin Smith movies is the fact that nobody really acts well in them. And that's kind of,
00:31:08
Speaker
part of the charm um but she is fucking outstanding in this movie um scars guard fucking outstanding okay um that's what i was hoping i really have nothing it's so weird because like it's also not one of my favorite Dracula stories to begin with um yeah but It's so well done. Like the entire time I was just like, I don't know if I want to watch this again or if I just want to watch it again to watch it in 4K when it comes on disc. But the performances are very good. Nicholas Holt um is okay. Aaron Taylor Johnson is okay. But that's only because Rose Depp is so much above them. Acting wise, like she acts circles around every single person in this movie.
00:31:56
Speaker
Um, and that's what surprised me the most outside of maybe scars guard. Um, well, we're about will to he's always the best. He's not in a lot of it. Um, he's not in the top of it. He comes in end of the second act maybe. Um, but yeah. Um, they do have, um, unlike Bram Stoker's Dracula, of course, with, uh, Gary Oldman and Keanu Reeves, they actually do have a small five minute last voyage of the demeanor scene, which was kind of cool. Um,
00:32:26
Speaker
But yeah, I mean, it's just a retelling of that story again, basically. um this I mean, it's a story as literally as old as time. Like, it's one of the first movies ever made. um Jimmy Carter, who just passed, was alive for every single theatrical release of this series, yep which is fucking insane.
00:32:45
Speaker
um but yeah i mean it's a story as old as time like you know it going in um very well done robert eggers absolutely kills it um awesome yeah i can say i can't wait to watch it on 4k when they get the disc um i think you should be excited it's it's good it's not really scary there is some uh jump scares Um, if you're in the theater, um, okay. We're just cool to go to like a full theater for the first time in fucking years. Um, cause it was a sold out show. I got the last ticket, um, which is why I couldn't go see the Timothy's Chalamet movie because that was also sold out every showing this week, pretty much. And also I wanted to sit like in the worst seat possible. right Um, which mostly was the front row and I fucking slept wrong on my next all fucked up this week.
00:33:30
Speaker
That'll be on digital before we know it, because it did not do well in the box office. It's doing okay considering what it is, but it's not. Neither one, I mean, they're both R-rated movies. Neither one is killing it at the box office. They're doing pretty good because of the Christmas push. um I do want to see what the numbers look like after this week, because like I said, everything every showing I tried to get to was pretty much sold out.
00:33:55
Speaker
um But yeah, I do recommend this movie. We'll give it a proper score when you see it. Yeah. um But yeah, I mean, it's Robert Eggers. His movies are fucking film to perfection. Yeah, it'll it'll look great. It's yeah, exactly.
00:34:13
Speaker
um And you had four movies. I want to see Most of these I want to see I've heard of um Okay, I don't have the last one kneecap much. I literally just added that two seconds ago because I forgot about it but um and I've heard of all these of course and that journey number two is getting a lot of a lot of height because it's Clint Eastwood, but no Yeah, give us a little breakdown of what you watched during the Christmas break I'll go in order from left to right of what's on the screen and I'll yeah actually I'll start with kneecap Okay one of my most disappointing movies movies of the year okay um it's about a hip-hop group from ireland and they play themselves in the movie and kind of how they got their start and it's just it's just very okay um of course i was pissed i told you because i heard it was on netflix i wanted to go watch on netflix and you can only watch it on netflix if you have the fucking 4k 21 dollar a month plan yeah and i'm like
00:35:04
Speaker
but the like That's the first movie I've seen so there must be some sort of rights issue maybe because it's a foreign film that's over in Ireland. i have no What it is basically with Netflix is if their original stuff, that Netflix original you can watch for $6.99 a month.
00:35:20
Speaker
Right. Everything licensed is kind of... It goes by whatever it is. um All the movies, any any any movie that's from another studio, chances are it's locked. um But most of the original stuff, there's also some older shows that are on there. I don't really know what's on there. Dexter, I think, is watchable. But there's stuff that's locked, and that's why you couldn't watch kneecap. Okay. Because we'll talk about it at the end, but yeah. Okay. Cool, cool. Okay, so. Anora.
00:35:51
Speaker
instantly went on my top 10. I'm going to be doing my top 10. Yeah, that's what Oscars. I'll be doing that the week for the Oscars today. There's a ton of stuff that yeah isn't available yet. That's all I've been hearing. By the way, how great this movie is. I watch it on a yeah proper 4k proper release. um And this is because I acquired the movie and half a lot of the movies in russia russian like a lot of it so i don't know if there's a few subtitles because she can understand russian she just can't speak it but at the same time i don't know if it was done that for the audience who can't speak russian so i want to know if the russians actually supposed to be subtitled or not because at the same time i also was not lost for a single second of the movie because even when they're speaking in russian you kind of know what's going on it's the weirdest fucking thing
00:36:46
Speaker
why you put You should have put it on the Plex because you could have downloaded the subtitles. See, it came with subtitles downloaded. i just I was watching on my computer and just didn't feel like doing it. I'll get it to you though. so you can so yeah I do want to watch it before I'll see if you're right. It's incredible, but it's basically about this low-level hooker. Not not even ah but she is a hooker. Stripper hooker.
00:37:09
Speaker
um who this young Russian guy who comes off is really rich and fancy basically is like let me rent you for like a week because you can be my girlfriend um I got friends coming in I want to look whatever fucking cool for them so they basically just fuck for an entire week um okay ah Then basically he's just like, let's get married. And they're living in this, like, she's saying his place is this gorgeous, you know, mansion. She's never seen anything like it. So she's like, okay. Then the second she, they get married, his family finds out about it and sends basically the goon squad to get her to annul the marriage. They'll pair off with like 10 grand or whatever it is.
00:37:51
Speaker
um that sounds awesome she thinks she's gonna get millions it goes from there um wow that sounds awesome the movie is fucking fantastic i'll get it to you so you can watch it awesome awesome awesome highly recommend this four and a half it's i have about 21 movies i'm gonna whittle down on my top 10 of the year and this is definitely on there and it's probably gonna finish up being on the top 10 Next I'll go to The Order, which I thought was just going to be like a bank heist movie. I heard it compared to basically Heat, but like a lesser, like a team move version of Heat. And it is that for a lot of it. You got, is it Jude Law, I think it is?
00:38:31
Speaker
chi And Nicholas Holt, Nicholas Holt's the bad guy, Jude Law's the cop. um They kind of do the the heat thing where they're interacting, but not at the same time, like he's chasing him, blah, blah, blah. But it's actually Nicholas Holt works for the KKK.
00:38:45
Speaker
um And overall, it's pretty damn good. um It's not great, solid three and a half. I enjoyed it. It was a good movie, glad I saw it. Juror number two.
00:39:00
Speaker
It's fucking awesome. It's on HBO now. I do recommend you see it. It's my type of thing though. It's a courtroom drama. um And basically you find out the twist. So I'm not gonna say anything about it. I did not say a single preview. So I have no idea if they gave away the twist in the preview. I heard they might've. But watch this without seeing a single preview. 15 to 17 minutes in, you get the twist.
00:39:26
Speaker
It's another thing of what the hell would you do in this situation? ah um It's kind of fucked up in that way. um Being someone who has at some point maybe had a little bit too much to drink and then drives home type deal when you don't think about it. um In my past, of course, I don't do that anymore. But it's it gives you a lot to think about that way. um And then we have the piano lesson.
00:39:55
Speaker
directed by Denzel Washington's son, question mark, um starring his other son, John David Washington, and of course Cyborg from the Snyder films. All I heard is about, and and Samuel Jackson's in it. All I heard though was about, um fuck Cyborg, whatever his name is. um but Ray Fisher.
00:40:17
Speaker
Ray Fisher all I've heard about is like his Oscar buzz for this movie and now none of that's available like nobody's talking about it now that was like six months ago. This is on Netflix. um it bored the shit out of me. It's a period piece. It's definitely artsy. I could see why there was some buzz for it, but I don't think he's going to win anything. Um, he kind of acts like he does in the rebel move. We're like, this is a stage play that they took and made a movie out of. And he's kind of acting the entire time. Like it's a stage play still. Um, the performances very solid. Um, it's just not my cup of tea. Uh, I, I would recommend this to like,
00:40:57
Speaker
my parents friends. Like that's who I recommend this to. Um, it's that type of movie where you have a bunch of old people that don't know what to watch. It's on Netflix. Throw it on. Um, I was a little disappointed, but it is what it is. I mean, it was free on Netflix. So yeah. yeah Okay. No loss. So that's everything we watched while we're gone.
00:41:23
Speaker
2025, brand new year, brand new set of movies, brand new set of video games. We're gonna start off with that. Before you continue real quick, and the bri you used to have in the notes something about what we got for Christmas. We'll do that next week because we can show what you got. but We're gonna do gifts. That looks awesome. We are gonna do gifts. We didn't get to see each other this week. yeah um I just wanted to show that the new Superman shirt.
00:41:51
Speaker
Awesome. Getting ready for 2025, right? Yeah, we'll do we'll do our Christmas unload next week. Hopefully, because we're gonna go see the Timothy Chalamet movie Monday or Tuesday. But start off with the video games for 2025 coming out. um Brand new multiplayer game kind of set like Call of Duty, whatever warfare, wherever that one is, where you play multiplayer called Dune.
00:42:20
Speaker
Awakening have you seen the trailers for this? No, it looks awesome um It's gonna be on and up. It's gonna be on or is it like third person? Um, I believe it's I believe it's kind of said look the way it looks it looks like fortnight It looks like ah you're kind of in that world like that third person. um gosh Yeah, third person kind of yeah um mean It looks really good and you're you're fighting around all this other worms and stuff on on dune. So it looks cool. Nice. I um on Arrakis um mafia the old country another another mafia in the in the series set in Sicily way way back and then you're gonna be um you're gonna be a mafia mafioso over in the old country um games i know you loved when you were younger coming out as xbox exclusive fable and perfect dart coming out with both remakes for that um this game has a lot of hype
00:43:16
Speaker
an open world terminator survivors uh... set after the uh... john connor in the in the resistance and everything hopefully it's good everytime they drop a terminator game i'm disappointed right right so this one this one has a lot of hype too they always do um... disney and fortnite are gonna have some sort of a crossover epic game coming out this year next year i wanted to bring that up but the one thing that i'm excited for as far as games we'll get into the the the one thing we're both excited for but We're both excited for this, too. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is going to be coming out for PS5 sometime this year. um And we both want to play it, but it's an next box exclusive at the moment. Hopefully they add a third person mode. um Right. Because it goes. Have you seen it? It's first person. But like when you say you use a whip to swing, it goes in the third person. And apparently somebody found a glitch and they were playing for like two hours on third person mode. Oh, wow. Just walking around just indie. So a lot of people think that maybe the in the coding there is a third person mode that will be
00:44:12
Speaker
um available once the PS5 version is available, um but I really do want to play this game. It's a canon game for the Indiana Jones movies, so definitely looking forward to that. But the one game that we're both excited for that's probably going to be the best game in the next 10 years, the top selling game in the next 10 years is going to be GTA 6, a game that took 10 years to make a sequel to, um projected to make $3 billion dollars in its first year. um A billion dollars in just pre-orders alone is what they're projecting.
00:44:42
Speaker
Do you understand that obviously we're going to talk about Soompa. There's obviously a Superman movie. I don't know if people have heard about that yet this year. And the last time we got gmander crazy the last time the last time we got a GTA game was a month after Man of Steel came out. right yeah That's fucking insane.
00:44:58
Speaker
Yeah, and this this is i our next-gen console. It's been a huge graphic upload since then, or upgrades since then, so we're very excited about that. um Marvel Games still on the horizon, this Wolverine game that's been rumored, or we know what's coming out. We've seen trailers for it, we've seen leaked videos of it. There's a Wolverine game coming out from from the same makers who did Spider-Man, Open World, yeah Wolverine, and Somniac. It's gonna be a hard arc.
00:45:28
Speaker
yes it is um blade coming up with an an xbox exclusive blade game ah captain america black panther rise of the of hydra sat in nineteen forty two or nineteen forty three um that's coming out um and a possible Possibly this year we'll get more news on venom and spider-man 3 which is rumored to be the finale of this trilogy of video games um and Which is huge for the PlayStation also rumored this year pretty much pretty much art We know is happening is just gonna be a new switch switch to um And they're gonna have a new Mario launch title possibly 3d in the second year possibly Mario Kart X Um, but yeah, we've seen the leaks. We've seen the design mockups of this. I hope they're backwards compatible with the other switch. The games, the games are backwards compatible from everything that they've, they've announced. So, uh, yeah, uh, new, uh, the switch itself will be an improved doc, improved screen, yeah stuff like that magnetic run the same games. The controllers are going to be magnetic instead of having that weird slide in thing that I always thought was going to break. This is the first break. Yeah. Like my my leftward slides out at random.
00:46:38
Speaker
Yep. Yeah. Very, very poor design. So it'd be interesting to see. So let's jump into the movies of the year. Tons of movies. We've been talking about it all year, how excited we are for 2025. And there's a reason for it.
00:46:49
Speaker
There's a lot of movies starting in January, not a lot this month, but they are going to be starting the Poonaverse again with another character, please ah Peter Pan in Neverland Nightmare coming out in just a couple of weeks. um We'll talk more about Poonaverse in a little bit, but um back in action, a movie starring Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, where Jamie Foxx had his big health scare.
00:47:12
Speaker

Screamboat, the Steamboat Willy horror movie coming out on the 24th of this month. In the 30th of this month, Will Ferrell and Risa Witherspurm, I believe this is on Prime, will be called your cordially invited as a comedy, comes out at the end of this month.
00:47:42
Speaker
um February, um we but talked to we talked about last year, so many great documentaries in 2024. This one I'm excited for, Becoming Led Zeppelin. I love Led Zeppelin. Coming out on the fifth in theaters, probably streaming not too long after that. Kiyo Kwon, we love Data and Goonies, who's in everything everywhere all at once. Love Hurts comes out on the seventh.

I've heard hype. I've seen the poster for it. um But yeah, we'll keep an eye on that. ah March, we've got Mickey 17. This is supposed to come out in April. It switched date with sinners. She must be a white a white woman. and And everybody says it's one of the funniest scripts that's been around in Hollywood in the last 10 years. So I'm very excited for that hype.
00:51:22
Speaker
Another franchise I gotta get into, I know what you did last summer, the remake or sequel kind of, it's coming out on the 18th of July. um Another smur Smurf movies, I don't know why I put this on there. I was i wasn't in into Smurfs that much, but there's another one coming out on the 18th. I think I put it on there to say that it was running up against, I know you did that last summer. And San Diego Comic Con, coming out on the weekend of Fantastic Four, which we'll get into in a minute, but 23rd and 27th. On August 1st, Liam Neeson in the Naked Gun.

um i I don't know why Liam Neeson I mean Liam Neeson has some funny moments in certain dramas when they when they give him the reins But yeah, if if he does what he did in Ted 2 it's gonna be alright Right, yeah, exactly. One scene, ten shows, we'll be fine. I believe is the monster and and I believe Christian Bale or vice versa or Christian Bale the monster I think it's vice versa. I think Christian Bale plays the monster. And Jake is doctor. Okay. Yes. Um, another movie, probably one of my most anticipated movie this year, coming on on October 3rd is the Michael, Michael Jackson docupic. Um, very excited for that. Probably coming out in 2026, but it's all worth leading to.
00:55:34
Speaker
um Another Frankenstein movie, which I'm excited for, directed by Guillermo del Toro, Oscar Isaac, Maya Goff. Why do they always do two of the same type of movies? They do. The studio is fighting. The studio is fighting with each other overt over IP.
00:55:52
Speaker
um Another movie we never talk about that often, but Thanksgiving 2 is coming out next year in November. We loved the first one, so I cannot wait for that. um The trailer came out, I believe I have it in the notes, but Happy Gilmore 2. I'm so hyped for that movie. 00:56:21
Speaker
yeah but ah Yeah, I can't wait. Yeah, ah and Chad Powers. This is the weird Glenn Powell. I believe it's Hulu original comedy um where he's got this weird like prosthetic face and and nose. That boy's getting more official. He's getting a lot of work. Let me get into TV. um We don't really have a lot of release dates. TV doesn't is not like movies where you found out a release date a year later. um But you got the winter, you got Invincible season two. I know you're huge into Invincible. It comes out February 6th.
00:56:51

I broke this up specifically because that's where our bread and butter are. ah Marvel TV coming out the end of this month. You got on not January 29th your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The animation looks good. Gotta talk about the trailer in a little bit.

00:59:01
Speaker
um We also know that X-Men 97 season 2 has already been done. It was done before Bo Demeo, whatever his name was, was fired. So we know that's coming out. We're not sure. Probably next year as well. Then we got Marvel movies.
00:59:16
Speaker
We've got Captain America Brave New World coming out on February 14th, just a month from now. We've got Thunderbolts with an asterisk coming out on May 2nd. 00:59:36
Speaker
We hear casting rumors, we hear we hear directing rumors, we hear all this shit happening with this movie, but the movie's not out yet. So we don't know we don't haven't haven't seen a trailer, we haven't seen nothing about it. so Typical song. Including a date. Even when they have something wrong, they fuck shit up. Right, and this is their... And even when they have something wrong, they fuck shit up. This is their money maker. Besides what they do with Marvel Studios, this is their money maker. This is their franchise that they they have 100% control over.
01:00:02
Speaker
um And then with the Fantastic Four coming out on July 25th We're gonna be doing a road to the Fantastic Four We're gonna talk all about Roger Corman's Fantastic Four from 1994 specifically holding off on watching this movie till this year So we can break it down. Give me the strength Remember to talk about the the ones that came out Josh tranq. I didn't Josh tranq. That's the that's the one that came out sixteen yeah track I I can't remember the guy who did the the original ones Tim story. Is that the name guys name? Sorry, I don't know fantastic for that came out and fantastic for movies yeah in the rise of silver surfers qs 2005 2007 and then the fin fantastic for stick
01:00:47
Speaker
Uh, that came out in 2015. That's the Dros Trank, uh, Fantastic Four. We're gonna talk all about those. Um, and then we get into DC, which we're both excited for. We got a new slate coming out. Um, we got Peacemaker Season 2 coming out on August 10th. Hopefully we'll get more slate reveals. We'll get the Batman, the Clayface, maybe even a Penguin Season 2 reveal.
01:01:08
Speaker
But most importantly on July 11th, we've got motherfucking Superman, which we're both Highly highly hyped for I think the world is highly hyped for I was thinking about this before the show This might be my most anticipated movie of all time Because a lot of stuff coming together as far as this is the first Superman movie that's been released since I became a fan of the character Right, yeah, you're right. I've been reading a lot of Superman the last year. You have been. um planned We're going to be reading going into the reading more. yep yeah um I haven't blown my Superman reading load though, which is good. I still have plenty that I look forward to reading. um A few of my friends are getting ahead of the movie. um They're already ah out of stuff to want to read going into July. so um but yeah i yeah i This might be my most anticipated movie of all time.
01:01:59
Speaker
In the race there was probably the force awakens which even probably was on this level because it was because it was like I'd seen Star Wars before like I'd seen like this has a lot of stuff going for like one It's Superman. I'm now a fan of the characters two three. It's James. Go nursing James gonna do this type of movie before Yeah, it's just all sorts of anxiety. I have plus like hope going into this movie if that makes sense Superman hope hope makes sense of Superman. Yeah so But that brings us to my most my most anticipated part of the year. The first half of this year we're going to make everyone sick of this podcast because every other week we're going to tackle an aspect of this character of Superman.
01:02:42
Speaker
First of all, let's slide through these slides because I did not do a good job with the slides today. ah there's some There's some of the TV shows. and there's some um shows Hey, there's all the Fantastic Four we just talked about. And there's the legacy of Superman that we're about to talk about. The year of Superman, which we coined this six, maybe a year ago when I had this in the notes. Motherfuckers are using it all over Twitter now, the year of Superman.
01:03:07
Speaker
Coied it right here on this podcast um max flashers 1941 serial cartoons George Reeves in a series, The Adventures of Superman. Hollywoodland, which I never saw with Ben Affleck, where he plays George Reeves in the making of that show and the mystery that went around his death. um Superman, Superman II, The Donner Cupboard, I compare those two. um Superman III, Superman IV, Blumishes. Superboy series, I don't know if you've ever seen the Superboy series. I've seen episodes, yeah. Okay, the Bizarro episode is one of the first things I remember of Superman in my life, so we're gonna watch that. You told me that, yep. Death and Return of Superman, the phenomenon of the 90s, we're gonna discuss that, we're gonna read the series as well. um Lois and Clark, The New Adventures of Superman, Retrospective, one of my favorite Superman things. I don't think you've watched much of it if you have maybe a couple episodes. Five episodes of the first one. Five, I love the show. um It's very returns. It does not age well.
01:04:08
Speaker
It does not. um it's It's very mid to early 90s sitcom-ish, but not really. Yes. I mean, growing up, I always thought it was a show for women because like all like my cousin, like my female cousins all watched it and stuff like that. Terry Hatcher. But yeah, um it's pretty good.
01:04:24
Speaker
Superman Returns, we've got ah we've got the kind of the sequel to the Donner movies, the first two Donner movies with Bryan Singer coming in, Brandon Routh coming in as a new Superman. It came out like 2006, I think. two thousand yeah five two thousand and six um There's a documentary that came out on that DVD called Up, Up and Away. We need to watch that for the podcast. Yes. We're going to talk all about. fire burn Yes, um we are going to talk all about Smallville, the longest running, I think the longest running Superman thing, series. Superhero thing. um Also James Gunn related, Brightburn. I have not watched it. I've been holding off on this watch as well. You've never seen Brightburn? We're going to watch Brightburn too for this watch.
01:05:08
Speaker
um because that's James Gunn's depiction of what if Superman became bad. Well, technically a' kind it's his brother's depiction. He just produced it. Right, right, right. Man of Steel, Batman versus Superman. We're gonna go through that slog again. Justice League versus the Snyder Cut comparison. I have not watched those two movies in a comparison aspect.
01:05:32
Speaker
I did. um I will not be rewatching Joss's League, but I'll gladly rewatch the Starcutt. It's fun, but it's a lot, and I still have all my notes from comparing them, so I'll be good to go. out And we'll talk all about Superman and Lois, because by then, I'm going to watch that whole series. um Do you want to bring up some of the comic books that we're going to be reading? I know Kingdom Come is the huge one. thats I know. Kingdom Come will be the last one.
01:05:56
Speaker
um all-star definitely allar all-star all seasons yeah and this beauty the Luther one there I want to read that it's a quick read um but Besides that, I'm pretty open to reading anything. um I think I want to do The Death of Superman. I mentioned it before. Yeah, we're going to do The Death of Superman because I have not read that. That's what I've been saving for this because it was so important to you. spoiler alert when i spoil Spoiler alert. I wish I had it right here. One of your Christmas gifts. I've told you how important that comic book was to me. It's my first comic book.
01:06:31
Speaker
I bought you that comic book for Christmas. The same exact one. It's a graphic novel. It's a graphic novel of Death or Superman, so it's the same exact one. It's bad and boring. I'll give it to you this week and we'll talk about it sometime in the next six months. Podcast goals for this year. Watches. Because of Daredevil coming out,
01:06:53
Speaker
i Think it's about time. I probably watched the Netflix Marvel shows because we have a sequel to that coming out on Disney Plus I need to watch Daredevil That's the main one. I also need to finish Saul better call Saul. That's the goal for this year Maybe new shows I may get into I may get into Reacher the Witcher. I've been one to watch that forever During the Halloween. I was thinking real quick. Um, you could probably 4 seasons. You could probably rip through the 4 seasons of Superman and Lois before July if you wanted. Yeah I'm going to. Depending on what's on your plate. Yeah that's what I'm going to do. That was just one today. Okay. You need to remind me during Halloween we need to watch The Day You Live. I've never seen it with Roddy Piper. Okay.
01:07:34
Speaker
It's a great movie. um I know it is. Halloween, speaking of that, we're going to do horror classics, Universal Monsters, um the The Warriors, another movie I have it on my list. um During during thanks Thanksgiving, during Easter, I want to watch The Last Temptation of Christ. This was um Martin Scorsese. It's one of his first movies after reaching bull um star. I believe it stars William Defoe as Jesus, isn't it? Yes. ye Yes.
01:08:04
Speaker
And the Passion of the Christ, there's a sequel to the Passion of the Christ coming out, I believe, in a year or so. The Passion of the Christ II, The Resurrection. And I've never saw the Passion of the Christ. I'm not a big religious person, so I never watched it, but I do want to watch it. You never seen Passion of the Christ? Yes, that's one of those ones that, like, it's an incredible movie, but you see it watched, you're like, I'm good. I'm going to watch it, though. I look forward to hearing it. I know it's gruesome. You report on it.
01:08:28
Speaker
um Yeah, and of course probably one of the most what the watches I'm excited for is 28 days weeks later to get prepped for 28 years later, so I love I love killing Murphy and it's it's got him in it so um Very, very jam-packed year, we knew it. Especially adding all that Superman stuff in there. It's gonna be a bi-weekly Superman load to your face, neck, and chest. So, be excited for where we are. And with that being said, an hour and ten minutes in, let's get into the news. Fuck.
01:09:09
Speaker
And it's not a news, I'm gonna go trail around. it
01:09:13
Speaker
We got a brand new trailer for Happy Gilmore 2. Whole cast coming back by the looks of it except for Chubbs, rest in peace. um and his and his And his grandmother died died in real life too, not too long ago. um Yeah, very excited. the yeah We saw the showdown of ah Shooter McGavin and and Happy Gilmore at the end of the trailer, so I'm i'm pumped up for this movie. It comes out on Netflix sometime this year. um Also got the full trailer for a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
01:09:40
Speaker
um Which comes out at the end of the month like I mentioned and I'm very excited I like the animation style looks a lot like the 1960s comic book But and also the the other thing that was announced was this is not connected to the MCU It's MCU adjacent in another universe. I guess you can say so it's not it's not no connection to anything prior Not even in any animation animated series prior or nothing. It's all on its own. So um yeah i'm excited for that um james gun announced this one is during christmas so this is a lot more since then but
01:10:11
Speaker
and the first i believe was it first day um had two hundred and fifty million views and million social posts for subscribes yep 24 hours and officially the most viewed and most talked about trailer in the history of both DC and Warner Brothers um But yeah, he thanked everybody for that And I'm excited for the movie. We talked we talked we're gonna talk at nauseam We've got it, but we always talk about how how much we love that trailer. So um First first week we we're gone the box office sonic 3-1 actually both weekends ah first weekend 62 million third second weekend 38 million
01:10:49
Speaker
Mufasa also won number two that first week and a second week for 35 million and 37 million the second week. um wicked part ah Wicked won the number three in the first week for 13 million.
01:11:03
Speaker
And Nosferatu was number three last week with 21 million. So Nosferatu is doing well. um I don't remember where the Bob Gillian biopic was in that list, but I think it was like number five, I think. But yeah. yeah um Wicked came out on digital on Tuesday. I've already watched it. um Lots of bonus features, sing along version if you're up to that.
01:11:26
Speaker
um I have it on my voodoo and Apple TV for people on the other side of this podcast who may want to watch it um a Very good movie. um I got very emotional towards the end of the movie, especially like I mentioned when I watched in the theater Slow slog getting through the beginning of the movie very musical what you'd expect from a musical but seeing Cynthia Rivos performance in that movie again just brought me to an emotion like She just she blows it out the park and I really want people to see this movie I want you to see the movie too and give your give your although I don't know I'm seeing before I do my top ten. Yeah. so Yeah, it's very very very good um Rest in peace to Burt
01:12:09
Speaker
The reptilian star of Crocodile Dundee, the Crocodile. He was 90 years old. um Crocodile Dundee, huge with Paul Hogan back in the 80s. Second one was good. Third one was crap. um But the first one, it was one of those movies I always had on. I always had i always had it on VHS or somewhere. I was always watching it. It was always on TV too.
01:12:30
Speaker
um Rest in peace to John Capodice. You don't know him, you don't know the name, but you know him from... He's one of those, hey, that guy. Yep. Was he? You know him as the cop. The guy in Dumb and Dumber? No. Was he in Dumb and Dumber? He's the cop from Ace Ventura. You're close. He was the cop that worked in Ace Ventura that Ace Ventura was having fights with in the precinct that was, uh, Tonlok was always trying to protect him from. Just from this picture, it reminds me of the guy that used the hot chili pepper and dies of a heart attack in Dumb and Dumber.
01:12:58
Speaker
Oh, no. Yeah, that guy's still alive, too. I can't i don't know his name. he's He's another one of those character actors. But this guy died. and He's 83 years old. Rest in peace to him. And my favorite news probably the whole entire vacation while we were gone. The movie that Christopher Nolan's making is going to be The Odyssey. um Finally been revealed it's going to be a mythic epic. um It's going to epic shots across the world using a brand new IMAX technology.
01:13:25
Speaker
um at Homer's Odyssey, which we just talked about. We were talking about Circe and the Creature Commandos and how that's based off of the homer Homer's Odyssey Odyssey. And sure enough, this news broke that that movie with a huge fucking cast. We've got Tom Holland. We've got, what's her name? Anne Hathaway. Robert Pattinson, Zendaya.

Critique of Netflix's Simplified Movie Mandate

01:13:48
Speaker
It's huge, the cat the cast for this movie. so um Yeah, I wonder how he's gonna do this in less than seven hours.
01:13:56
Speaker
Right. exciting tackle it an epic Epic story. So um Netflix has this weird mandate for their movies um that they want, they want directors to come in and make them so they can easily, people can easily be distracted and be on their phone while they're watching the movies. That's a weird way of filmmaking. I was hoping you may have saw that and have your opinion on that too, because yeah i don't it's fucking awful.
01:14:22
Speaker
Yeah, um it's bad it's a bad prep pre preface. presses preci there pre Yeah, like, okay, we're gonna sign you up because we like your pitch for this movie, X, Y, or Z. But you have to make sure that you can write it so that people that are too dumb while they're watching um with their phone in their hand can understand it if they look at their phone, because it's a fucking TikTok.
01:14:44
Speaker
Yeah, fuck out of here. Yeah, I do not like this. I do not like this at all. It's just dumbing down. It's just dumbing down the audience, dumbing dumbing yeah down for the audience, which is stupid.

Casting News: Jared Leto as Skeletor and Blake Lively's Lawsuit

01:14:53
Speaker
yep um Rumors are that there's going to be a new Power Rangers movie reboot.
01:14:59
Speaker
coming out, a complete reboot of the whole entire series coming out on Paramount. I don't know much about it other than the little leaks that came out. um Jared Leto has been cast as Skeletor in the Masters of the Universe movie. I cannot believe this movie is being made. um But yeah, he's probably gonna lose a ton of weight and be a natural Skeletor just all bones, so. Blake, big news came out while we were gone. Blake Lively This movie that and ends with us. I didn't want to watch it last year, i never got to it. It's a romantic comedy, I believe, a romantic drama or something. Blake Lively and this guy, um Justin Baldoni, who I guess was an asshole.
01:15:35
Speaker
off the set and Blake Lively actually went and sued him, the director and the co-star for sexual harassment and more stuff came out of it this week that Ryan Reynolds went to the guy and yelled at him and confronted him over it so it was a big huge, big huge

James Bond Universe and Public Domain Speculations

01:15:53
Speaker
brouhaha. We heard the stories, there was stuff going on behind the scenes but um Now there's an actual lawsuit and I believe he's countersuit so it's a big big chess game now um James Bond movie reportedly on hold over the shared universe with ah with Prime and MGM Studios from what I hear
01:16:12
Speaker
and We may know about it a little bit more too, but from what I hear, Amazon Prime wants the shared universe aspect of James Bond and I believe the broccolis don't. that Is that what you kind of got from it? Essentially, yeah, there's just creative differences between Amazon and the broccolis.
01:16:28
Speaker
um Even down to who they're going to cast the next bond, I think there's issues there. yeah That's about the extent of it, though. I mean, you covered it pretty much what it is. They want to do a MCU-like bond universe. Yeah. Have different 007 agents and do TV shows. they and enough there's stuff from the broccolis don' They're looking to cash in in on on their investment. I mean, they bought MGM Studios.
01:16:53
Speaker
bond is right up there with the highest property that they bought oh yeah in probably it has to be the highest property so yeah they're looking for a return so yes they're looking for the return of the investment and the broccolis have been i mean they've basically owned bonds since the beginning um sauceman owned the rights and then he partnered with the broccolis and broccolis has owned us since sauceman left um but yeah i mean We'll see. We'll see. I think they should take some time off after the Daniel Craig stuff, even though that's crazy. That movie came out like 2021 and there's still as many news about the next Bond. It's the first time. It's also the first time spoiler that they killed Bond at the end. Yes. So they kind of do need the break between movies, I would say. um Robert Eggers, we talked about him earlier and reportedly I ah to be directing a Labyrinth remake movie.
01:17:44
Speaker
I don't want to see it, not without um not without David Bowie. but um We always talk about public domain on this show and two properties and two public domain I want to talk about. Popeye, which is the reason why we're getting the horror movie, and Tintin, the Adventures of Tintin comic book, which is great. yeah There's a spear Steven Spielberg animated movie that came out like a decade ago. that's actually Very good, very good. um all Both are entering public domain. Mickey Mouse, his first talking appearance, also entering public domain, and as well as well as Mickey wearing the gloves. so um yeah and I believe it was 10 years from now, or a little bit less, Superman's gonna be in public domain, so that's gonna be interesting.
01:18:24
Speaker
um Entering public domain next year, Mickey's dog Pluto, um Nancy Drew, um and Betty Boop.

Rumors and Excitement: Dexter's New Series and Ninja Turtles

01:18:33
Speaker
so not um' Not a lot next year, but interesting.
01:18:37
Speaker
And like you mentioned earlier, in Dexter resurrection, James Ramirez has pretty much announced that he's going to be in resurrection. He went on, he went on Instagram. I wonder, I wonder, I wonder if devil's not be on it. Yeah, it doesn't hold. I wonder if devil not be on it and he'll take over the inner voice again. Right.
01:18:59
Speaker
I wonder, I really wonder how this can work. It could be him and Deb and they could have interactions because you didn't see a lot of directions with, you saw no directions with him and Deb in the original show. So I wouldn't be surprised if as ghosts, they're interacting. Do we know we we know what we've heard on the show from Dexter? We know that his father supposedly committed suicide. He overdosed on pills. Yes.
01:19:23
Speaker
do you think that's gonna do you think that's really what happened or you think we're gonna find out in this show what happened to his father in resurrection or in no in origin original sin original sin I assumed that the last episode will be his death I've assumed that since the beginning yes it makes but that is sense um Michael C. Hall has also said that they do plan to have multiple seasons. okay And they have since the beginning, um if the show does well. But they can still kill him off. Thing that's been confusing me about this show is there's no Captain Matthews. Yes. Right? Right. You're right. Yeah, you're right about that. And he was very good friends with Dexter's father the years before Dexter's father passed.
01:20:07
Speaker
um So I wonder if he'll be brought into the end of the show and they won't kill his father off yet. Cause it's that big, that big case they show in like one of the flashbacks, like season seven or eight of him, of Matthews coming over to console his dad after they let one of the killers go.
01:20:23
Speaker
Right. i don't know yeah i speculate My speculation has always been that that's not how Harry died. Ever since I saw that, I think i think he was murdered. and there's a lot and There's a lot going on in this show where that could happen. James Wan is rumored to be in Intoxic Directed, R-rated, ah Last Ronin. That's the Ninja Turtles movie. James Wan is a good director. I cannot wait to see that.

Collectible Swag and Batman 2 Delay

01:20:48
Speaker
um Let's talk about Swag.
01:20:51
Speaker
swag Stuff we all get come on son, you know, that's right. Nothing's more swag than this is shelf worthy fucking this this diorama I don't have no idea how much it is um it's a it's Darth Vader and Obi-Wan fighting on Mustafar and Shut up and take my money me. Yep. Looks awesome. We got one part of the statue You got Vader bowing to the Emperor you yeah The other part of the statue is is Vader, um when he's talking to Luke, is's he's about to cut his arm off, or he's already cut his arm off, and we got the Death Star in half of his helmet. Looks really fucking cool. yeah um The other thing, I saw a couple of Superman ones I wanted to bring up to you. They have this comic book run that they're doing. These are acrylic glass-cased Funko Pops with Cyborg Superman. Looks really cool. And this one, Max Fleischer Superman.
01:21:45
Speaker
This is coming out as well. A deluxe box set with a whole bunch of pictures a whole bunch of figures from the series. So it looked really really cool. um Including Superman and Clark then changing in a telephone booth. It looked really cool.
01:21:58
Speaker
um Big news while we were gone, which I know pissed a lot of people, including you off. ah The Batman 2 has been pushed to 2027 the whole year shifting. um Reason being, the script is not complete. um yeah And there's a Tom Cruise movie getting that date. So they switched places. And apparently I've heard that Matt Reese is going through some personal issues. i've been hearing to I do think he's getting divorced. I think that's none of the public. that ah so That makes sense, okay. So that could be why this is taking so long, plus patents inside up to film The Odyssey. So maybe they just realized they can just push it a year and hopefully the studio will be up and running by then. um So what's that? Superman. Six years. He's making Supergirl to be a hit. It's five and a half years from the original. Five and a half, okay.
01:22:47
Speaker
um And yeah, yeah James Gunn defended that on on on threads, talking about the the distance, saying five-year gaps are more fairly common in sequels nowadays, ah seven years between Alien, Alien, so on and so forth, also six years between Guardians 2 and 3. Well, I mean, he was, you know, kind of fired for making- Fired. that was That movie was supposed to come out like three years earlier. oh So some of the examples he used weren't exactly the best examples.
01:23:15
Speaker
um But honestly, that's something he shouldn't have to defend. I just think he did it because he wants people to know that it's still coming. yeah I think that's why he defended it.
01:23:26
Speaker
ah andy machete who's directing ah the brave and bold for DC. Um, talking about it being delayed and then James got debunked that this week as well. You can't delay something that doesn't have a release date. There's also an interview that wasn't in English. So words may have been crossed. Yep. Um, during, I believe new year's Jason Momoa went on Instagram worst kept secret in Hollywood. We've noticed kept secret. We knew he was a fan for the last decade of Lobo, the character from DC.
01:23:58
Speaker
And sure enough, he has been officially cast as Lobo in the DC Universe.

Casting Reactions: Jason Momoa as Lobo

01:24:02
Speaker

I want Superman to breathe a little bit more and Fantastic Four would be the perfect movie for Thanksgiving. you get I don't think it's going to be pushed. four weeks five weeks I mean, Snyder's reporting it is, but he's also very hit or miss. um so ah Because I won't have time in July to see it anyways. I'll be wait i'll have to wait for streaming. so yeah um Andrew Garfield says he's not cast in Spider-Man 4, which we now know is false because he's a liar.

who lies in every, every time he's talking to the press about not being in a Spider-Man movie. So, um, yeah, he's probably in it. Um, the Sony Pictures CEO, Tony Viniskar, whatever his name is, right before the holidays, he went on there defending the failure of Madam Webb.

Sony's Spider-Man Strategy and Captain America Promo Art

01:25:23

Saying that Madam Webb underperformed in the theaters because the press just crucified. It it was not a bad film. Madam Webb was the worst movie of last year.
01:25:31
Speaker
By far, it was horrible. He also claimed that the they have to rethink their strategy for the Spider-Man spin-off movies. um If we put another one out, it's going to get destroyed, no matter how good or bad it is. It's not the case. it just Number one, you don't have Spider-Man in a Spider-Man spin-off movie. You cannot do that. That's big and the biggest critique from every fan, including us. um He's also puzzled by Craven's flopping so hard. um He doesn't understand because the film is not that bad of a film.
01:26:00
Speaker
um It's the studio's worst launch in 7.5 years. It's the worst launch they've had in the Sony movies, so... um Yeah, <unk> I'm kind of glad they're taking a break from that, but we'll we'll actually see if that comes comes to place or not. I'm excited for Beyond the Spider-Verse, and of course, I'm excited for Spider-Man Noir, so... um And finally, in news, we get the first picture, spoiler alert, of the leader.
01:26:25
Speaker
That's the promo art for Captain America Brave New World. um The guy coming back was in an incredible halt, coming back to play the leader, continuing that story when the serum hit him. ah Comic book accurate head, um trench coat looking guy, so yeah.

forward. I know what it is. That's their intro. i haven't I haven't watched wrestling in a decade because I haven't had cable. I cut the cord a decade ago. This is the first time I've watched wrestling in a decade on streaming. And they opened the show to the Pointer Sisters. I'm so excited. It was so out of place watching the wrestlers fighting in the background.

A lot of people are blaming it on Kenny Omega. I don't know who to blame, but there's somebody to blame or or one of one of Tony Khan's coked out binges. I don't know what it could be, but it it's so out of place. um But the one thing I am excited for is with this news, Netflix took on RAW. The archive of the RAW vault is on there. um I don't know if you've watched some of it, um but there are 12 seasons and in and out of the attitude era, some of that, 1993 to 2001 stuff, some current stuff. Are they moving everything over to Netflix? Yeah, do they keep eventually ah eventually some of the stuff is staying, um I think that the live, the pay reviews are still on Peacock until like four or five years, three years, I can't remember when the deal ends, but starting on Monday at 8 p.m. if you want to watch, Raw will be streaming for the first time
01:28:39
Speaker
on a streaming service on Netflix. um And they'll be on there and I'm excited. I'm i'm gonna be watching Monday night. I can break up raw throughout the week. I don't have to watch it all at Monday night, blah, blah, blah. I won't be watching it probably till Tuesday. Yeah. yeah but Yeah. You can watch and fast forward the segments. You don't want to, it's going to be great. I can't wait. I'm very excited. Cause it's going to be like a homecoming to raw. They're going to be a lot of stars in there. And of course we're WrestleMania season where the Royal Rumble coming up. So there's going to be a lot of set up for this is going to cause Jesse is doing his retirement tour soon. So it might start up Monday.
