Hello and welcome to another episode of the Daily Brentford Podcast with myself, Daniel, where today we'll be looking ahead to the visit of Leicester to the G-Tech at the weekend. Just before we get going, guys, we're a brand new company, so we're looking for your support over the coming season and beyond. We look to bring you the best and most in-depth coverage across the entire network. Controversial Red Card Overturned

00:00:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
So and let's get stuck in for team news ahead of the weekend. Christian Norga, the big news for midweek, is that his red card has been rescinded from the weekend. As I said in the review podcast, I didn't think it was a red card, but I am surprised that it was rescinded given the contact he made with Pickford's leg. I think it helped that.
00:01:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
um neither pickford or norgard were in control of the ball obviously they both were entitled to go for for the ball i thought when you watched the slowed down images it didn't look nice there was a movement obviously towards the end of of the images where norgard did put his studs up towards pickford but i don't expect i don't suspect it was intentional and i am pleased that Common sense appears to prevail on this occasion, where whereas um very often in the Premier League we don't see that. I guess the only frustration is VAR are ah not meant to intervene on these decisions unless it's a clear and obvious error.

Team Strategy and Lineup Expectations

00:01:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
and the referee on the pitch as we know from last week didn't even give a yellow card to Christian Orgard so it is a bit of a concern that VAR intervened, decided that it was a red card and ultimately changed the course of the game and although it was a good battling point on the road you you do wonder what could have been if we had 11 men for the full second half it definitely did change the game as a spectacle but anyway with Norguard back I would expect probably the same team who played against Everton I think King Louis Potter continues to do well at left back and Vandenberg on the opposite flank is quite happy to tuck in to allow King Louis Potter to go forward more in the past I've um advocated for only having one of Norguard and Janelle I don't think you can drop Janelle in the form that he's currently on and
00:02:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
maybe looking at the other side of it, if we are trying to play out from the back, maybe having more balance in the midfield will allow you to do that. I think having Dam's Garden Jenson in there with Keene Lewis Potter, bringing the whip from the left hand side also gives you an extra man in midfield. Of course, then we've got Mbuma and Wiser up front, and i as as much as they didn't have a great game last week, I think Brian again was And unless he has lots of chances coming his way, unless we're regularly coming forward, I think he does struggle a little bit. I think he is a bit wasteful when he does receive the ball. Sometimes he'll put a cross in and it's not the best cross, um but the numbers for them to speak for themselves. So I think we've got to give them some grace. In terms of Igor Tiago, of course we saw him make his first appearance in a red and white shirt last week.
00:03:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
He got more minutes also during the week for the B team. I think it remains too soon for him to start. I think also the full mister is on. I'm not sure we can justify stopping them over at this stage. However, I think we can expect to see him off the bench again. He'll offer us something different. He was extremely helpful up against 10 men last week. And and obviously we're we're able to go long long um for him.
00:04:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I would suspect if we go behind in this game, I would really like to see him and Wisser next to each other with Tiago, the aim being Tiago wins a flick-ons and perhaps Wisser can be released in behind. I think he has every potential to be exciting. I think as a weeks go by, I would have seen him get more minutes. Of course, he's getting more minutes in training as well. So I am hoping that he is developing his relationships with those attacking players all the time.

Fabio Carvalho's Playing Time Concerns

00:04:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
One other player I want to talk about is Fabio Carvalho. This is following um his father commenting on Brentford's Instagram post. I think it was a full-time result post from the Everton game last week. His comment was, son, you should leave this club. I don't suspect Fabio realise that he did this until it was circulating amongst the fanbase.
00:05:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
i I probably um intend that Fabio's dad did not intend to pose his publicly, but it it it got out. um I was slightly embarrassed on Fabio Carvalho's behalf, I do have to say. But it does very raise a question, should he play more? And it's something that I've spoken about since he signed for the club. Where does he fit in in this team?
00:05:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
I would suggest he he probably fits in as like the number 10 where Damsguard has been playing fruit for throughout most of the season. Maybe we didn't foresee that Damsguard would be so good this season because he's been absolutely brilliant. I don't think you can justify taking Damsguard out for Carvalho. I think he's always an option. I think the reason he didn't come on against Everton last week is because we were playing with 10 men. I think we wanted them all.
00:06:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
defensive options, we weren't going for the game as much, but I suspect if we need a goal and we need to go for the game, you'll see the likes of him, Michada, Tiago come off the bench, and he needs to have a big impact when that happens. It's a difficult league, the Premier League, you've got to take your chances by the scruff of the neck, and I think there is more to come from him. His very early days, I agree, his opportunities have been limited, but he's got to fight for his place.
00:06:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the majority of Premier League teams, if we went there, he may struggle in a similar way to get into the team. I think it is a sign of the depth we now have at the club that he perhaps isn't getting the game time, but he it he's a young player. We've seen this season with the likes of Collins, the likes of Dam's Guardian, the likes of Fleck and to an extent that we can see how their journeys and their form has improved over time.
00:06:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
and again for Carbine I think it's just a case of adapting although he was at Liverpool he never played too much in the Premier League I think he did also play for Fulham in the Premier League a few years ago but that was a few years ago now and I think he needs to re-find himself and I think he needs to just try and make an impact when he can but I do have some sympathy as I don't know what he was brought in really to do there wasn't an obvious hole in in the team that you think he would fill and I would suspect that we'd benefit more from having another kind of deeper midfielder who's more box-to-box, someone like Joseph Silver, who is not more reliable, I guess, ah and more available. um Of course, Fallback, which we've been talking about for a while. But yeah, other than those points I want to talk about, I expect to see the same team.

Key Player Returns and Impact

00:07:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll be surprised if we don't see the same team. I'm not sure if there is an update on Chris Iyer. I think he'll be out.
00:07:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Still for some more time Gostavo Nunez as well. I haven't seen him playing for the B team this week same with Rika Henry So there's no updates in that regard Obviously we're going into a busy December period of lots of midweek games including that Carabao Cup quarterfinal a couple of weeks time So I do suspect the whole score to be needed and I do think there'll be more opportunities the likes of Carvalho and Igo Tiago over the next few weeks and Let's have a little look at Lester then. My favorite player is Facundo Buononote on loan from Brighton. He, I believe was suspended last week. So he didn't play, but he is back for this one. And I think he is someone who can produce that moment of magic. He's got those tricks. He's got those, ah he's got that element of flair. And I think if there's one player we want to nullify, it will probably be him.
00:08:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Of course, we've still got elements of the Old Guard at Leicester with the likes of Jamie Vardy up front. His experience can't be underestimated. He is still good for a goal or two these days, even though He is perhaps slowing down a little bit.

Leicester's Managerial Changes

00:09:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I think perhaps the most interesting thing about Leicester is their managerial situation. Of course, they sacked Steve Cooper last week, despite being sixteen in 16th place, I believe, at one point above the relegation zone. and They decided that wasn't good enough. Personally, I don't know where they expected to be. I can understand that going from Mariska, who's now at Chelsea, obviously left last season, to Steve Cooper is
00:09:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
uh, transitioning styles, but I think they perhaps should have expected that. Steve Cooper's a lot more conservative. Steve Cooper won't be too fussed about playing a really attractive brand of football. And in all honesty, in your first season in the Premier League after promotion, I understand that. And I think the most important thing is to stay up. Um, obviously, obviously we can see the season as well, the likes of Southampton.
00:10:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're playing good football, they're playing nice football, they're giving away far too many goals just just from playing out from the back and it's ultimately hindering them. There are rumours at the time of recording that Rude Van Nistreoy is Leicester's chosen option. He only just beat Leicester twice in his very short reign as Manchester United manager in the last few weeks. It is Not clear whether this appointment will be done in time for the game at the time of recording. It will be very, very tight sitting here recording um on a Thursday. I don't think you'll have many training sessions with them. Put it that way um if he has any. So it will be interesting to see how Lester
00:10:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
um set up at the weekend I think Ruvanistroy may provide a more progressive style of play a more attractive style of play a braver style of play perhaps as they look to get more out of there attacking players I think um It will be difficult to see how that translates this weekend, though, and he may not be able to change too much this weekend, given that he would have only had a day in the job at most to come kick off. So it it will it will be interesting if it's not him. Obviously, it will be a caretaker manager, someone perhaps within their coaching staff. I think it does add an element of doubt. Thomas Frank and his coaching team will not have
00:11:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Certainty in how they're going to set up because they're still not being seen under this coaching staff before. So it will be interesting. It it adds not another element to think about. I think it makes the game slightly harder in a way. and Players might also feel they have something to prove um after clearly the board at Leicester don't think there starts being good enough. Hence the sacking of the manager. So then after the break, I will be having a look.
00:12:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
at our previous meetings against Leicester and I'll be trying to analyse how I think this one will be going.

Historical Struggles Against Leicester

00:13:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to part two of the daily Brentford podcast. So then Lester are a bit of a bogey side for Brentford. They are one of only two teams we have failed to beat that we've played in the Premier League since promotion, the other being Newcastle. We achieved two draws in the season in which Lester are relegated.
00:13:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
and we lost home and away in our first season in the Premier League. This followed FA Cup defeats against Leicester both in 2020 and 2021 as well. As far as I could see, using the foot mob app, we have never played them before 2020, which I found hard to believe, but that can be verified um by some of the listeners, I'm sure.
00:14:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are they our bogey side? Well, it seems to be the case at the moment. they they They are only one point above safety in the Premier League as Brentford are looking towards the top half. Of course, as we've already spoken about, they're in a state of transition in terms of their management. So perhaps this is our best chance to get our first win against Leicester and to show that we can beat them. I think they're A beatable side, I think what I would say about them is they're not the same side that we have faced in the past with the likes of James Madison and Harvey Barnes. In my opinion, when they went down, they but they were probably the best team to ever go down on paper in the Premier League. I expect them to maybe come with a slightly more attractive style of play if we've run this choice in charge. Perhaps as conservatives and Steve Cooper, but but like I said, it's difficult to predict. Maybe we won't quite see that this weekend.

Tactical Approach for Upcoming Match

00:15:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe they'll
00:15:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
try and be quite compact this weekend and and if they can take a point away I'm sure they will take that in terms of Brentford and how can we win I think talking about past meetings given the last one was two years ago I don't think we need to read too much into those I think it's another one where We recognize Brentford are playing slightly differently this season. Brentford ah have brought back the more um attractive style of play that we played in the championship. And it has seemingly resulted in better results against the teams in and around us, perhaps lower down than us in the Premier League.
00:15:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I think it may follow a similar pattern to some of the other home games you've had so far. And we've got to balance being dynamic and attack and being strong in defense. We have shown we have got the ingredients to do both. We've not necessarily shown it at the same time. I thought last week, I think we fared better against Everton than we have done previously. I think we actually look quite good, even with 10 men ah in places. And it would have been interesting to see how things would have gone with 11 men.
00:16:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think What we did show last week, though, is we can still be robust and strong in defense. and so Having someone like King Lewis Potter at left back, he has shown that he does have some defensive credentials, which is you can't price him higher for. I think, of course, in many home games, we've shown that we can be done and make an attack. We scored countless goals at home. We've won 5-3-4-3 and 3-2 at the GTEC this season, so it's just about Being dynamic in attack, if if it results in a goal face, it results in a goal face. But what Thomas Frank will probably want to see is us being tighter at the other end whilst not losing what we have in attack. Because perhaps if you if you do criticize Brent for the last week, and it's not really a criticism given what we had 10 men is perhaps we lost a bit of our attacking, the fact perhaps we lost a bit about attacking unpredictability and whilst being st strong in defense.

Predicted Match Outcome

00:17:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
In terms of a prediction, then it's very, very difficult, I think, to predict this game. But I will say 3-1 to Brentford. I think we are the stronger team on paper. I don't think that's up for debate, really, that they're really promoted side at the end of the day. They um still have some good players, perhaps not quite as good of a team they had a couple of years ago. They are not particularly high on confidence, although it's difficult to to judge that given given the change in management, the change in coaching staff this week. But I think at home, we've got the record to back us up. I wasn't so confident last week based on us being away from home and evident, but we've been very good at the GT this season and there's no reason we won't go into this game full of confidence. And we know we've got the players to score goals.
00:18:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we know that we can defend well. I think that clean sheet last week would have given us confidence as well. But I i do think Lester will score. I do think I need to see a bit more from us defensively across the whole season for me to be confident that we'll consistently keep clean sheets. But in terms of going forward, I think we'll score and I think we'll score a few. And I'm looking at a 3-1 win with goals from and Bummo with ah And we'll give another one to make our dams guard because I want to see him score again. Um, and part of me thinks is pretty boring to just to predict that and boom, and we're still going to get all the goals.

Future Challenges and Importance of Victory

00:19:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Having said that we have a tough run looming following the Leicester game with Aston Villa in midweek. We have Newcastle twice in the league and cup. We've got Chelsea and we've got a resurgent nighting and forest side coming up before Christmas. So.
00:19:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
In many ways, this represents our best chance of three points. I think all those games that I've mentioned as well are winnable potentially, but that they'll be difficult games. And I think we'll want to kickstart that run um and hopefully guide us into the top half. It was at this stage last season where we really, Brentford's form really fell off a cliff and we were we spent a lot of the early part of the 2020, 2024 worried. So.
00:19:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm looking for Brentford to push on, I'm looking for us to be on the top half by the end of the weekend, that would be brilliant and then we can go into that Wednesday night away at Villa and then home against Newcastle with lots of confidence and we can be looking up rather than down which I think is always, always a massive benefit.
00:19:56
