What REALLY happens beyond "I do"?

Planning a wedding looks effortless from the guest side… until you’re the one living it. In the very first episode of Behind I Do, Boise, Idaho wedding planners Jaden Fago (founder/CEO of Capital Occasions) and Allie Skinner (owner/lead planner) introduce themselves, their planning styles (Type-A meets “chill and calm”), and why they finally launched this podcast after years of tossing around wild podcast ideas.  They pull back the curtain on the stuff couples don’t realize they’re signing up for—like who’s emptying trash, packing gifts, paying vendors, fixing last-minute chaos, and keeping family members from missing the fun because they’re stuck working. With real talk, laughs, and a few “did we really just say that?” moments, Jaden and Ally explain what planners actually do, why weddings go sideways without someone running the show, and what listeners can expect each week: timelines, trends, disasters, and the behind-the-scenes decisions that turn wedding days into smooth (and sanity-saving) celebrations.

Okay, we're here. Episode one. What really happens behind I do First one.
00:00:47
Speaker
First one. Welcome to the podcast. Yeah. Wish us luck. Okay.
00:00:55
Speaker
All right. So what really happens? I guess we'll start with who are we? Why are we here? I'm Jaden Fago. i am the founder and CEO of Capital Occasions. We're wedding planners based in Boise, Idaho. um I've been doing it for about eight years.
00:01:12
Speaker
And i mean, I would categorize myself as a very A-type planner, which most people are like, well, duh. But I don't feel like every planner has to be A-type. I mean, Allie can kind of speak to that later. But I am very A-type, very organized. But I also am, I love to dance. So at every wedding, you'll probably find me dancing at some point. so Always on the dance. Sometimes I'll let loose a little. The A-type-ness goes away. Yeah.
00:01:38
Speaker
And I'm Allie Skinner. i am owner and lead planner as well at Capital Occasions. And i've been doing it for seven years. And i'd say my favorite part of a wedding is probably seeing the planning in real life. So we make the pretty mood boards and find all of the perfect gold silverware and plates and all of that. And then to actually see it in real life, with 120 place settings is probably my favorite part. Also when the bride, usually the bride, sometimes the groom loves it too, but when the bride comes down and looks at her reception for the first time, she's like so excited. So that's probably my favorite part of the wedding process.
00:02:24
Speaker
Yeah. And to speak of kind of planners, I mean, Allie's definitely not an A-type planner. Just so throw that in there. I get the relax, brides. We are definitely a little chiller on the side, but. Yeah, but it proves that you don't to be A-type. Yeah, it always works out. Works out perfect.

Why a Wedding Planner is Essential

00:02:44
Speaker
Yeah, and then why we're here. mean, Allie and I, gosh, we've been talking about doing a podcast, I swear, for three years at least. I mean, we've had some wild ideas. I've always wanted to really interview, like, the homeless and just, like, get their story. But obviously, where's that going to go? Wedding related. I wanted divorce podcasts where each tackle maybe the husband or wife, one of us, and get each person's side of the story. we get down to what really happened. What really happened? Why did get divorced? Which would be fascinating. Always curious. So then we really put our serious hats on and decided that we really just wanted to, I mean, we love what we do. mean, my background's in education. I just love...

The Role of a Wedding Planner

00:03:26
Speaker
educating people and i think too we have so much knowledge that we love we want to share with people and i don't think two people realize like what we do also or like so i think it's just fun to kind of explain what we do and that's kind of why we wanted this podcast to educate couples of like the importance of a well-planned wedding and like why having a wedding planner matters or even a coordinator like why it's important yeah and what difference it can make i guess totally So yeah, here we are educating the world. Yeah, we wanted to go a little bit more behind the scenes of weddings. When you go to a wedding as a guest, it is so completely different than how it actually works when you're planning a wedding behind the scenes. So if you are...
00:04:11
Speaker
just got engaged for the first time and you've never planned a wedding, there's so much that you don't know. And it's so helpful to find someone who's done this literally hundreds of times and can walk you through the biggest problems that come up in a wedding. And I think that just, it's important to be able to talk to someone who has done that because you don't know what you don't know and it's helpful. Yeah. That's why we're here. Exactly. Because we do know. Yeah. Yeah.
00:04:38
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, things like, you know, which a bride is not going to think about, like who's emptying your trash cans. Like, I mean, that's not like a on ah the to do list. So it's just things like that, which sounds so simple. But really, it's, you know, it's something that has to get done or like who's going to pack pack up like all your gifts and your guest book at the end of the night and like make sure it's safe and.
00:04:58
Speaker
you know, and isn't hasn't been drinking all day. And like, you know, i think little things like that. Yeah. That people don't think about. Yeah. People don't think through or they think, oh, this is something my mom could do. She could set the tables or my aunt can help with this. And she was a planner 20 years ago. She can do it. Our favorite. But when it actually comes to the wedding day, your family and friends want to be with you. and And they deserve to be totally. They deserve to be with you. And it takes away from their wedding day experience and yours when your family or friends are out there setting your tables and chairs. And at the end of the night, your mom stops dancing because she's worried about how the gifts are going to get packed up or who's taking the food home or she's paying a vendor last minute. So these are all things we want to eliminate. And we work on your behalf to make sure that your wedding is executed exactly how you wanted. But it doesn't have to be someone in your family doing it. Yeah. Yeah.
00:05:54
Speaker
It's true. And I mean, I there's been a couple a handful of brides that have hired us there. Like I was in a friend's wedding and we were the ones setting the tables and chairs and then had to tear it all down at the end of the night. And it's like, what a buzzkill. And it's like also it's not that easy. I mean, it's you know, we have like a team of three to four and it still will probably take us a handful of hours to like set tables, chairs, linens like your wedding party also doesn't want to do it.
00:06:20
Speaker
So totally but yeah. Yeah, that's our favorite line when we're like, why are you hiring a wedding planner? like, well, I went to this wedding last week or last summer and it was terrible. Yeah. ye There was no, you know, typically we hear like there was no organization going down the aisle. So people are freaked out. They don't know when to walk or you know how quickly to walk or anything like that. Or it's a set up and tear down like nightmare stories. And the groomsmen were there at 6 a.m. setting up and had like an hour to shower or something crazy. So, yeah.
00:06:52
Speaker
We like to change that narrative. Yeah. But again, it's so many things that like when you're getting engaged, you're so excited and it's which is great. And it's like you're so in the moment, but it's like there's so much not so fun stuff that's but that is part of a wedding that like you have to like consider. And the nice thing when you hire a professional planner, you really don't have to worry about it because we got you.

Podcast Content and Engagement

00:07:14
Speaker
We already know it's on our to do list. yeah We do the not fun stuff. Yeah. Yeah.
00:07:20
Speaker
So, yeah, I mean, we're just here. We're going to I don't know. We'll see how many podcasts we get. but I mean, our goal is to talk about, you know, different wedding planning topics, do's and don'ts. I mean, the one that everyone loves, timeline etiquette, like how to write a timeline, all the things, you know, and then also when does set disaster strike, which they will. I hate to break it to you, but every wedding has something that goes Some hiccups. We lose the rings. We have wind that blows all of your glassware over. We have no plates for dinner. There's always fire happen and the DJ couldn't make it for the ceremony. Like, I mean, it's just there's something that happens every wedding. And we make sure that we have a plan B for all of that. And you should, too.
00:08:04
Speaker
Yeah. So that's our goal is that each podcast is kind of a new topic and a new Way to help educate you to plan a better wedding. Yeah. So thanks for being here with us. We're so excited. We are planning on dropping an episode a week for 2026. Here we go.
00:08:23
Speaker
Here we go. Almost there. It's almost 2026. So we're just so excited. If you have any feedback for us or questions or topics you would want us to cover, um Instagram or email is always open. Mm hmm.
00:08:38
Speaker
And if there's someone you want us to interview in the industry or anything like that, too, let us know. Capital occasions. Reach out. Thank you so much for listening. We're super excited to be here and hope that it helps even just one of you or helps convince you to hire a planner, whether it's us or a planner in your local market.
00:08:57
Speaker
We just think that there's so much value there and we hope we can share with you why. Yeah. Cheers.
