00:01:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, well, trust me. I would have rather been there as it turned out. but You got to do the right thing. Who knew? Who knew? but I heard you guys had a great time. That's awesome.
00:01:20
RICK JAMES
Yeah, we sure did. Definitely had a really good time with the boys. Looked forward to it, and then it didn't disappoint, that's for sure.
00:01:26
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's awesome. was gro Was Grand Rapids groovy?
00:01:30
RICK JAMES
don't know about Groovy. was fun. It was a nice town.
00:01:34
The SnowJobs Podcast
Good enough.
00:01:35
RICK JAMES
It was a nice town.
00:01:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
Good enough.
00:01:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's cool. That's cool. The week was good, though. no ah No flight problems, no issues, no bail needed.
00:01:44
RICK JAMES
No bail needed. We did have flight problems, but that's, I guess, that happens.
00:01:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
Man.
00:01:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
Did you have flight problems or just the Matt?
00:01:53
RICK JAMES
ah Maddie Muscles did it on the way home. Yeah, I don't know what the hell our plane was wrong with our plane. When was leaving Minneapolis to get back to Fargo, it was, yeah, our issue seemed we're on it forever.
00:02:04
RICK JAMES
we were on the ground more than we were in the air i think so yeah
00:02:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
Really?
00:02:09
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's not necessarily a bad thing. Figure it out on the ground before you get airborne.
00:02:14
RICK JAMES
yeah i don't know it was i don't know what the heck the problem was they weren't saying much and then we i don't know it was very frustrating and the pilots were late and all that so
00:02:25
The SnowJobs Podcast
was the flux capacitor or the rotator splint. One of the two.
00:02:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
It's always what what goes wrong. Oh, man.
00:02:34
The SnowJobs Podcast
Well, I'm glad you guys had a good time. um as As Jeremy said, i was not in Grand Rapids. I did not attend Syma last week, was unable to do so. ah But Syma Show week has come and gone. And as we do every year, going to get a couple the boys together, do a little review.
00:02:51
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah You know, what was hot, what wasn't, what hit, what missed, as well as anything new and exciting equipment wise that the guys saw. Yeah. You know, it's ah it's unfortunate. I was unable to go, but had to do the good dad duty. So that, you know obviously takes precedence at times.
00:03:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah But tonight to hear, I'm looking forward to this, hearing what everybody thought of the week. what ah Tell me all the stuff I missed. And, you know, we have Matt McIntosh from Clippers.
00:03:19
The SnowJobs Podcast
We have Steve Smythe from Storm Equipment. We have Matt Young from Young Landscapes. We tried to have Pat Salmon from Northeast Eicing, but he is in a cave or something.
00:03:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
He has no internet. So we got Rick Weil. Snow Power Rick is with us. He's going to tell us how ah how his show went, because we're looking forward to hearing that, and dropping of the the re-dropping of the new Snow Power Backblade.
00:03:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
So it should be a good show, right, Jay?
00:03:47
RICK JAMES
Yeah, really good.
00:03:48
The SnowJobs Podcast
I want to hear all the dirt. I want to hear all of it. Straight answers. Straight answers. No sugarcoating. Let's do this. All right. Everybody got no press secretary bullshit. want to hear the good, the bad, the ugly.
00:04:01
The SnowJobs Podcast
But before we do that and we get to the boys, let's hear from Team Top Gun. We'll come back. We'll do a really quick week in review and hear what we need to hear from the boys.
Storm Chasing and Arctic Collaborations
00:04:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right, gang, we are back. So quick week in review. What did we do last week? Well, we had Syma, but what we also had last week was Storm Chasing Episode 6 dropped. The Season 1 finale dropped Thursday if you were at Syma and you were there watching it at the Storm booth or the Arctic booth, and it dropped Friday for the rest of us non-Syma attendees.
00:05:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
Episode six featured Arctic snow and ice control. As everybody knows, you know, those guys are one of the pioneers of modern large-scale snow removal companies as we know them now.
00:05:16
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah So we want to thank Randy Strait, as always, definitely Randy, as well as the brothers Strait, Lucas, Blake, and Spencer, ah Big Daddy John Stark, and the entire family at Arctic for not only letting us film you know, them doing what they do during snowstorms, but for all their amazing support of the project from start to finish through the first season, ah Arctic was there, whatever we needed, whatever we asked to ask to them, ah they were definitely all in for us. So we appreciate that.
00:05:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
And yeah, they, yeah they helped us through the whole first season of storm chasing. Right.
00:05:50
RICK JAMES
It was really good. Yeah, definitely. It was good. That episode good. love seeing the Arctic, what they do. And this brought me back to when we were at the plant that day. And then Steve and I, Arctic Steve and I, ploughed with them that night.
00:06:02
RICK JAMES
That was really fun time. So it was a...
00:06:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
That is where he became Arctic Steve, right? Like he didn't want to give the the plow back. He kind of stole it.
00:06:09
The SnowJobs Podcast
Took off.
00:06:11
RICK JAMES
He's always been Arctic Thieves.
00:06:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah I tell you the one thing that you do notice, though, in that video, it makes it real clear that those ah the trucks with an Arctic on the front. That's just such a game changer. It really that the way it's rolling the snow, just like it would with a, you know, a machine pushing a sectional.
00:06:32
The SnowJobs Podcast
It's really cool to see. That's it's going to be really cool. um So yeah, check out their episode. If you haven't watched it yet, episode six of storm chasing with the snow jobs featuring Arctic snow and ice control.
00:06:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
Definitely check it out. Give it a like it's over on the storm chasing YouTube channel.

The SnowJobs Podcast
Did anybody say that this week?
Networking Insights and Booth Reflections
00:09:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
Was that at all at all? Hello, boys. How are we?
00:09:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
Don't everybody answer it once.
00:09:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
It's an audio show. Everybody.
00:09:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah,
00:09:40
Steve Smythe
Just tired tired from the week.
00:09:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah I bet. I bet. It always is exhausting.
00:09:45
Matty Muscles
We were going to start off with a nice audio drop.
00:09:48
The SnowJobs Podcast
There we go. I figured that line might have got uttered at least once this week, but I don't know because I was not there. So I want to hear all about this. So who wants to kick us off? Jay, you know, what do you want to start with?
00:10:00
RICK JAMES
Oh, I don't know. but It was a good I couldn't wait to be there just to hang out with the guys. I mean, Sima, I'm not trying to be jerk, but Sima, Sima, I'm there to see the boys, you know, after our stuff and just visit a lot of new guys.
00:10:14
RICK JAMES
And I got to do everything I wanted to do, honestly.
00:10:16
RICK JAMES
I checked the show out, and I also got to do a lot of networking with a lot of different guys and meet a lot of new guys. So it was fun, real fun for me. I mean, I enjoyed it. It went really fast. I mean, that week was – or what were there, two and a half days or whatever only, but yeah, was, it was, it went by fast, got to go see Uncle Rick's shop and it.
00:10:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:10:35
RICK JAMES
He gave us some tour of that. and that was pretty cool. That, that place is top notch. So yeah, enjoyed it.
00:10:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
Cool.
00:10:42
RICK JAMES
I didn't get I didn't get to drive Bryce's race car. I was disappointed. I told him I was not happy, but nobody cares about my happiness. So,
00:10:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
Dude, did they? I'm sure they didn't. I'm sure this was a ah ah superimposed thing that somebody sent me. But somebody sent a picture of of a banner there. It said the best show in snow, but it had our logo.
00:11:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
It had the Snow Jaws podcast logo on the banner. And I said, it looked like it looked perfect.
00:11:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
I'm sure it was like, you know, Photoshop, but it was perfectly done. i'm like, no, there's no way they did that.
00:11:15
RICK JAMES
see that. Yeah, I don't think Simon would do that.
00:11:18
The SnowJobs Podcast
One of the Canadians, one of the Canadians sent that. I got to remember who the hell sent it.
00:11:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, I got that in Boston.
00:11:23
RICK JAMES
I never yet had to be imposed because I saw that Simon. and learned I don't think our label was anywhere near it. So...
00:11:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, ah that's okay.
00:11:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah Oh, man.
00:11:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah So, boys, what what what do we want to talk about first? What do we want to start with? we want to start with booths, seminars, parties. What do what do you want to talk about?
00:11:49
Steve Smythe
we can We can kick it off with Boos, Rick and I, when I take that from the start.
00:11:53
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay.
00:11:55
Steve Smythe
It was obviously Grand Rapids, Syma. It was ah a good time out there to seeing everybody. that's That's the most you know most important thing, I think, is just seeing all the all the the groups of people that we know. And then for me, it's just meeting new people.
00:12:11
Steve Smythe
I just love going to those events and people that I don't know just introducing myself and just getting getting to know a bunch of other people. So. That end of it was good. um The storm booth, we had kind of a had our booth broken into three different spots. We had the storm equipment section, which is which are which is our you know storm equipment part. Then we had the storm academy section along with storm chasing.
00:12:38
Steve Smythe
So the storm academy, we did three mini sessions. We had two held on Thursday and then one on Friday morning. The two on Thursday were a sales and marketing, and then we did an equipment one.
00:12:50
Steve Smythe
And then Friday we finished off with technology and we had a group of panelists from all different, all the different vendors and whatnot there. So was, thought it was really cool. And then in between those is we played the storm chasing episodes and we, we kicked off a Arctic's debut Thursday afternoon. So that was, that was super cool.
00:13:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
Nice. Very cool. Yeah, we got a good mix tonight. We got Matt and Matt, and then you know they were there as attendees, although was was ah Plowright there in in some attendance there, Matt?
00:13:22
matt
Yeah, we were in the storm booth there right next to the popcorn and water. So we had a great spot because everyone walked up to get popcorn and water and we were able to talk to them.
00:13:27
The SnowJobs Podcast
Cool.
00:13:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
There you go. Here, popcorn, water, snow steaks. Got
00:13:34
matt
Yeah, so it was great.
00:13:34
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah Good.
00:13:35
Steve Smythe
Yeah, Matt, you guys, your your group there was busy nonstop.
00:13:39
Steve Smythe
People were checking out the stakes and whatnot. It was pretty cool look over and and see that. So they were busy.
00:13:44
matt
Yeah, we had a good show. We had a lot of customers that came to see us and then new people checking it out and going from there. So that part was good for sure.
00:13:51
The SnowJobs Podcast
Good. then Uncle Rick, how was your booth?
00:13:54
rick
It was popping the whole time, that's for sure. um it was kind of hard because people are, we had to the V on the front, then we had the R on the back.
00:14:06
rick
Man, I thought I was running the marathon a couple times. I'm running back and forth because, you know, you got to go 20 foot over there, then But it really turned out good. We had a lot of Bryson is just knocking it out of the park with John and Justin.
00:14:21
rick
It's not their first rodeo. So that's a lot of support. A lot of questions. um I'm trying to find out what's going on with the back blade and in with boss and everything. And the bottom line is um we were able to separate and we did and and they'll be doing all right and I'll be doing all right. But the that active cutting edge with the trip in reverse it's just, I didn't sell a single normal one. It was all active.
00:14:52
rick
So I'm, people are really excited about it.
00:14:53
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's what everybody wants.
00:14:56
Steve Smythe
i saw rick I saw Rick on social media.
00:14:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
Good.
00:14:57
RICK JAMES
You're listening great.
00:14:59
Steve Smythe
Kevin must have picked up picked up his blade from you Saturday morning.
00:15:04
Steve Smythe
Yeah, it's cool.
00:15:06
The SnowJobs Podcast
Rick, was your booth as busy this year as it was last year with the V when you dropped the V at last year's show?
Syma Show Attendance and Improvements
00:15:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
Because it was mobbed last year.
00:15:13
rick
I really don't think so, just to be honest. And I don't, not to be putting a show down, but why do you start with not many hours?
00:15:20
Steve Smythe
What the hell? What the hell?
00:15:23
rick
And it was just so random. They didn't, the last day, why do you start at 9 a.m. when you've just been out drinking, most of them do, or partying all night or just associating for two nights in a row and then they start at 9 a.m.
00:15:39
rick
on Friday the other days are 11.45. eleven forty five I just think they didn't hit the mark when it comes to how they set it up
00:15:48
The SnowJobs Podcast
how that was That's a good look segue into another question I had because I was not there, but every picture that people posted or that I got sent of guys at the show, it didn't look like the attendance was there. was there Maybe it was just the angles they were using or whatever, but was that did it seem like attendance was down from last year in Pittsburgh to everybody?
00:16:13
rick
um But it I was not mobbed.
00:16:15
rick
It was consistent, but it wasn't overwhelming at Pittsburgh, man. It was three deep.
00:16:21
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:16:21
rick
It was just really going. We were good, but it just wasn't overwhelming like it was in Pittsburgh.
00:16:28
matt
Even walking around the show, you could get around real easy.
00:16:31
matt
yeah it was It wasn't as busy as Pittsburgh at all.
00:16:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
Gotcha.
00:16:35
Steve Smythe
I'd agree with that. I mean, our booth was steady. We definitely had people in and out with the, with the different events we had going on in it, but it didn't, it felt like Pittsburgh was, was busier, but.
00:16:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
I think, I believe Jordan said that though, that the the Northeast shows are always going to be more heavily attended than the Midwest shows. ah Just because of the population density in the Northeast versus the Midwest.
00:16:58
Steve Smythe
I think Martin, martin was he stopped by our booth once and just i asked him. I thought he, just off brief memory, but I thought he said it was around 2,000 people that were were in attendance, and I don't know if that included vendors or not or or what.
00:17:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
Hmm. We would have to include vendors.
00:17:16
matt
What I don't understand about it is how they advertise it. They get it started, like before the show starts. You know, they don't do a lot of um social media and put it out there in groups to get, you know, guys to know what this show is. I mean, you have certain guys that have been in the snow industry a long time and they understand what Saima is, but there's a lot of new guys that don't understand the show.
00:17:36
matt
And like when you guys launched your stuff for, so you know, Snow Academy or, you know, anything to to do with your show, it's out there on social media, and everyone finds it.
00:17:50
matt
Well, if I'm just me, if you're spending all that money on a booth and everything, you want to have as much advertising and you can before that show starts to get people interested in it and understand exactly what's to there.
00:18:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
i agree. No, I agree.
00:18:01
RICK JAMES
that For the price tag, they should be obligated to do that. That should part of the that's be part of your show.
00:18:05
Steve Smythe
Yeah, would I would agree.
00:18:06
Steve Smythe
I mean, even like when we, you know, are promoting Storm Chasing or Storm Academy or whatever, we're hitting the different so social posts, know, all the different Facebook sites that kind of cross post and whatnot. And I didn't see any.
00:18:19
Steve Smythe
I'm not saying that they didn't put them there, but I just, I haven't seen anything pop.
00:18:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, I didn't see it. But to be fair, Simon has never been big on social media. Like I've really never seen posts on Instagram or Facebook from Simon.
00:18:30
matt
Yeah, but the world's different now. That's how people find things out.
00:18:33
The SnowJobs Podcast
I agree. No, I agree. I'm just, know, I'm just playing devil's advocate. Like they've never done that.
00:18:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
So that's, that's, i mean, unless I'm wrong, can anybody, anybody tell me that they've seen stuff? Cause I just haven't, I don't think they're real big on those two mediums.
00:18:45
Steve Smythe
eight They'll post, you know, they'll post, I see, so you know, just directly from them, you know, if you're following them or something on LinkedIn will pop up or whatnot. but
00:18:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
LinkedIn, yes. LinkedIn, they definitely post on.
00:18:56
matt
So who do they want there then?
00:18:56
Steve Smythe
But not, I haven't seen anything cross crossed over, you know, to some of those other social marks, so.
00:19:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
But youre you are you guys are right.
00:19:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
I mean, you all you all have boot space. So for that for those kind of prices, you would expect that they would be publicized more. and
00:19:11
rick
That's what I was going to say. The price I paid, and I know Storm's was a lot bigger. We're paying a lot of money to be in that show. And it seemed like they could really come up with some more horsepower there to bring people.
00:19:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:19:26
The SnowJobs Podcast
Good points. Good points.
00:19:27
RICK JAMES
But you guys, like like some of you guys, I remember Steve Rick, you guys have talked when it was in Grand Rapids in, what, 2019 last time. What do you think the difference was between these couple of years? Do you think it was better back then or what? Or more people? Or what do you thinking?
00:19:44
Steve Smythe
2019 I was on the other side of the carpet, you know, like you guys on that, on the contractor side. And don't, it felt like it was busier, you know, then, but I could be, I could be off, you know, 2019.
00:19:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
Hmm.
00:19:55
matt
Yeah. Yeah, we had a
00:19:57
rick
I was told by Simon rep that that was the busiest show they had five years ago.
00:20:02
Steve Smythe
two thousand
00:20:02
matt
booth there in 2019 and it was busy.
00:20:02
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, they've they have claimed that that that was the busiest show they've ever had.
00:20:06
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's why they went back there.
00:20:08
matt
Yeah. we had a booth there in two thousand and nineteen and it was busy
00:20:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
Do you think it's just the costs, even for, like, forget the booth costs of for the vendors, the costs associated with with snow guys going to this show?
00:20:21
The SnowJobs Podcast
you know, everything is up, like airline tickets, hotel rooms, ah you know, rental cars.
00:20:26
The SnowJobs Podcast
If you're not from, like, what, a five-hour drive or less, you're you're probably not going.
00:20:33
matt
But you've got to think, though, too, where you're – I mean, Michigan's got a ton of snow guys. I mean, Ohio, they're right there, a ton of snow guys. The top of Indiana, ton of snow guys. Illinois, I mean, is right there, driving just in less than four hours.
00:20:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:20:46
matt
ton of guys that do snow.
00:20:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
The other, but Matt, the other, the, ah there is an other snow show, a smaller Michigan snow show, right?
00:20:55
The SnowJobs Podcast
And even that's not hugely attended for all the guys that are in Michigan, right?
00:20:57
matt
No, it's not. No, but that's another show that's not advertised well. I mean, well,
00:21:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
Hmm. So it's all advertising. You got to get the word out. That's what, that's what I'm hearing.
00:21:08
matt
I think you've got to get guys educated on what's going on there to understand what they're coming to a show for.
00:21:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep. Yep.
00:21:13
matt
Because when you're spending X amount of money to go to a show, you need to know what it is.
00:21:19
The SnowJobs Podcast
I hear you. No, I hear you. I don't disagree.
00:21:22
matt
And like when I was there, I said it needs a different flavor. It's boring. That's just me. You walk around the show, it's boring. It needs something.
00:21:30
matt
I don't know what that is, but it needs something to make it a little bit more you know exciting or sexy. Something in it.
00:21:35
rick
I don't think it's more classes.
00:21:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
Didn't they have all the snow podcasts?
00:21:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
Didn't have, they supposedly had, you see it, Jay?
00:21:43
RICK JAMES
right. We walked by. and we so I walked by something. Somebody said there's a podcast. I yeah i saw a couple.
00:21:49
Steve Smythe
Yeah, they were doing they were doing podcasts on the one side of the venue, the opposite side from where we're like Caterpillar was and whatnot across the side.
00:21:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, no one about it. We heard about it later like last week or two weeks ago that they they were having all the snow podcasts there to do live shows from there. We didn't hear about that.
00:22:09
matt
I mean, they had a quarter of that venue blocked off.
00:22:11
The SnowJobs Podcast
We didn't get invited. They what?
00:22:15
matt
They had a quarter of that venue blocked off in the back corner where they didn't sell space.
00:22:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
Really?
00:22:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, that's not good. Eee.
00:22:25
RICK JAMES
Well, to get back to what Rick even said you know about the times and stuff, i I've never understood this. I mean, I know what they say is people at their classes or whatever. Why do we got to wait till 11.45 to get into a trade show?
00:22:38
RICK JAMES
Let us go in freaking morning. i mean, if the people want to take their classes, they can be in their classes like big boys and girls, and then when they're done, they can come out.
00:22:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah
00:22:47
RICK JAMES
know I just don't understand why we have to wait to you know till midday to go to and what were there for just a few hours and
00:22:56
The SnowJobs Podcast
I'm going to throw something out.
00:22:56
RICK JAMES
I mean, the show fuel is not show's not that big. and You can probably get to it, but not if you probably really want to talk to a few different people because, you know, once you're talking to talking some vendors, you'll talk to them. And if you you know run into people, time goes in a hurry.
00:23:06
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:23:09
RICK JAMES
Next thing you know, oh, where everybody get on a trade show. It's after five. you know, we heard that announcement.
00:23:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
Well, I'm going to throw something out, just like playing devil's advocate here.
00:23:18
The SnowJobs Podcast
So how much is it to get into the trade show?
00:23:21
RICK JAMES
thirty five bucks
00:23:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay, so how much is it to take the seminars?
00:23:26
matt
Well, it's, uh, I think one day is one 65, but like the whole package was like, I'm going I thought it was like 800 some dollars.
00:23:28
The SnowJobs Podcast
Was it eight?
00:23:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay, so if you're...
00:23:36
RICK JAMES
I thought. Yeah. It's
00:23:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
So if they open the trade show floor and they're making more money for people going to the seminars, but the trade show floor is open, that that's going to draw more people there than the classes where they're making more money.
00:23:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
So that's probably what the, I mean, you know, that's probably what it's just pure plain dollars and cents right there.
00:23:53
RICK JAMES
just a money grab.
00:23:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
they're They're not going to open the trade show because it would keep too many people away from their seminars where they're making an extra hundred bucks a guy.
00:24:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
That'd be my guess as a marketer.
00:24:06
matt
So like at the Michigan show, they did seminars right out in on the floor, kind of like stormed in, you know, so yeah, we do.
00:24:11
Steve Smythe
that that's what That's what I was going to say, Matt.
00:24:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
I like that.
00:24:17
Steve Smythe
um You know, to have more of that kind of stuff, interaction at the at the different booths and the trade show with the different vendors and whatnot and how we did it on ours, like I'll just say like the our equipment one.
00:24:29
Steve Smythe
You know, we had, we had us, Storm Equipment were on there. Douglas Dynamics was, Arctic was on it. And then Snow Wolf was on it, you know, so we we collaborated. Again, all these, all these folks support Storm Academy as well, but we were all on the stage together again, you know, and I think there needs to be more of that type of stuff, but.
00:24:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
Thank you.
00:24:46
The SnowJobs Podcast
So now to be fair, though, I'll play devil's advocate again.
00:24:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
If they're doing something like last year, everybody was there last year and I was there. So I'll use that as an example. When Josh Gomez had his how to price snow work, that literally took the entire attendance of the trade show over to that corner.
00:25:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
So now if you're Rick or you're Storm and you're in the opposite end of that and you're paying a lot of money for those boots, you just lost hundreds of of potential people coming to your booth for an hour, hour and a half.
00:25:14
Steve Smythe
Yeah. Nope. I get that.
00:25:16
The SnowJobs Podcast
So that, like, I could see both sides. Do I think they should do more of that? I love that. I love doing the little mini seminars in the trade show floor. But if you if you make more hours, then it's not a competition.
00:25:29
matt
But how many more people you think came in there to go see Josh do that? How many more people did it bring them to that floor?
00:25:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
I don't know, honestly. I don't know.
00:25:39
matt
I mean, it goes both ways. I mean,
00:25:40
The SnowJobs Podcast
Like, were you you, are you saying like how many people went to Pittsburgh just because Josh was going to do that? How to price snow work?
00:25:46
matt
yeah because I mean, there's some people that want to learn that stuff. And the you know, the the guy is doing well, and you have that.
00:25:51
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:25:52
matt
So it's it someone bringing something to the table for someone to learn without going to a class.
00:25:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, it's extreme value. Absolutely.
00:25:59
The SnowJobs Podcast
It's extreme value. I don't know how many people are coming just for that.
00:26:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
I couldn't give you a number. I really don't know. I don't know how to judge that.
00:26:07
matt
Right. But I just say, I like if for me being a person that, you know, being in a booth and stuff like that, if there's something that's going to draw more people to it, I'm hoping somewhere down the line, those people are going to leave that after their 45 minutes and make their way through the show.
00:26:22
matt
You know, you're you're just hoping to get as many people onto that floor as you can and hope you get to talk to them
00:26:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah
00:26:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
I've ah I mean me and Jeremy have talked god Go Jay Go ahead
00:26:31
RICK JAMES
it goes hand in hand. It goes hand in hand with what what we said earlier about having longer hours. I mean, yeah, they're drawing people away from your your booth for a little while, but that's why you got to have longer hours so guys have more time on the floor to do their get to what they want.
00:26:46
Steve Smythe
But like but we had when we had the discussions in our booth, we had all the panelists, who they were with and their booth numbers too. So those people, if they had questions or wanted to further that discussion, they knew right where you know to go to that booth.
00:27:00
Matty Muscles
Steve, I thought that was awesome that you guys actually put that up there because like you're obviously clearly trying to direct people to their booths to be able to further the conversation.
00:27:11
Steve Smythe
Correct. Yep.
00:27:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
Give the people what they need. Help them find it. But ah I think if you had long, I think it comes down to money. If this one wasn't very widely attended and four years ago, they had one there that was the largest attendance.
00:27:26
The SnowJobs Podcast
I think it's coming down to if i'm so if I'm Steve Snow guy and I don't have the snow jobs that is paying for money a trip to Sima to go for basically a one day show and to hang out with the boys.
00:27:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
If I'm rolling three grand, 3,500 out of my own pocket, out of my own snow business to go to Sima for one day, that's to me, that's not worth it.
00:27:51
The SnowJobs Podcast
There's just not enough value there, especially if I'm on the smaller side. So I think they're losing a lot of that because there's not, if you made it a three day show or even two full days, ah who is Steve Wallace was ah from a great lake snow was saying like, if it, if it was multiple days, even if I couldn't get to the first half, but I could get to the second half, I would go or vice versa.
00:28:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
But I can't, you know, if I have a conflict and I can't get to the, the day and a half, then I'm not going.
00:28:21
The SnowJobs Podcast
I think they're losing people because it's so short. And if you're going to lay out that money, you want a return on your investment. And there's just not, a I don't think there's enough
Networking Dynamics and Event Durations
00:28:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
substance there from 1145 to five.
00:28:33
matt
Well, even if you just did two days from if you wanted to make it, you know, 11 to six or noon to six, but it's two days back.
00:28:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
Two days, exactly.
00:28:40
The SnowJobs Podcast
Two days.
00:28:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's what I'm saying.
00:28:43
RICK JAMES
No, you don't need more in two days.
00:28:44
Matty Muscles
It's got to be two days because like from from my perspective where like obviously we we were connected with all the vendors and we have a great relationship with a lot of ah you know people there, you end up getting stuck.
00:28:59
Matty Muscles
with connecting with people who are like, hey, ah great to see you, can't wait, you know, wanna catch up.
00:29:02
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yes.
00:29:06
Matty Muscles
All of a sudden that one day turns into just catching up with guys that you haven't seen in a minute.
00:29:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yes.
00:29:11
Matty Muscles
So it's like, you're stuck not connecting with the new ones that you might wanna see, or you might not even know about, which is actually a disservice to anybody who else is there looking to connect with you know new new contractors.
00:29:16
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:29:27
The SnowJobs Podcast
100%.
00:29:27
The SnowJobs Podcast
You're forced to choose between being polite and getting done what you want to get done at that show.
00:29:31
Matty Muscles
Exactly. Yep. 100%.
00:29:32
Steve Smythe
My thought would be have the show you know tuesday Tuesday through Thursday you know would be ah my thought on that.
00:29:40
Steve Smythe
and's It's interesting because you guys are saying, hey, more more show floor time. And it's like, just just watching the last, you know, this is the second year that I've been on this side of the carpet for it as like as the vendor side. But man, it was like 12 o'clock on Friday and it was actually like 1115 on Friday. And some of these vendors are already ripping down their booths and stuff because, you know, they they're a Monday through Friday guy or gal and they want to get out of there and and get on the road.
00:30:07
Steve Smythe
And another thing, what's that?
00:30:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
Was there anybody there Friday, Steve? Was it was there attendance there Friday?
00:30:11
Steve Smythe
There was attendance on Friday. It was it was slower. I'll say that definitely. Like when I was leaving the hotel in the morning to come over to the show, there was quite a few people that were already, you know, like Jeremy and all you guys were already on the road and early that morning. But there was quite a few in the hotel that were already getting ready to take the shuttle to the airport and whatnot.
00:30:30
Steve Smythe
But there was, I mean, Friday, what's your thoughts, Rick? I mean, it was, there was definitely people coming in and out still, but.
00:30:37
rick
I've been going to trade shows, boy, since 2008 with Hurricane and all that. And what I find on the last day, because I always sell product whenever I'm at a show because I end up bringing something different.
00:30:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
Hmm.
00:30:52
rick
Everybody comes the last day to seal up the deal, to make sure they want it.
00:30:57
rick
And that last day, I think I sold like eight plows because they thought about it and they didn't want to miss out. So they came in. So that last day is very important to me, but there's a far less people there on that last day.
00:31:13
rick
so So it's got to be.
00:31:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
So, mean, they added the three. out You got the three hours on Friday. You got. Oh, no, you don't.
00:31:20
RICK JAMES
It wasn't three hours. was like an hour and a half, wasn't it?
00:31:21
The SnowJobs Podcast
It was. Oh, I thought it was nine to 12. It's not. ah
00:31:24
rick
No, Friday was three hours.
00:31:24
The SnowJobs Podcast
I'm mistaken.
00:31:25
Steve Smythe
Friday was 9-12.
00:31:25
RICK JAMES
Oh, on Friday.
00:31:26
RICK JAMES
like i was you're talking I thought you were talking Wednesday.
00:31:26
The SnowJobs Podcast
Not.
00:31:27
Steve Smythe
and it was nine twelve
00:31:28
RICK JAMES
I thought you were talking Wednesday.
00:31:28
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay. So.
00:31:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, it's all good. So so you got 1145 to five on Thursday, which you know is what it is. ah But you've always had the three hours on Friday, but then they added the two hours on Wednesday night to compete with the Arctic party.
00:31:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
Why not just take that two hours and the three hours on Friday? Just make it an extra day and an extra hour to it and make it another 1145 to five. yeah that's only really a five hour day.
00:31:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
So then why why not do that? Why not widet stretch it out? Just do Wednesday and Thursday full days and be out Friday.
00:32:06
RICK JAMES
Yeah. Nobody's going to be there on Friday. Most people want are going to.
00:32:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, exactly.
00:32:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
let let friday Leave Friday as a travel day.
00:32:09
RICK JAMES
I wouldn't make it Friday, you know.
00:32:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
Let everybody get out early. They can party Thursday night, do all the networking events, get out, travel on Friday, get home to your families, and have a full weekend with the families. or to do business, whatever you need to do.
00:32:24
The SnowJobs Podcast
But I just, yeah, I mean, I don't see why you can't do a setup, you know, Sunday, Monday, and do Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or even set up on Tuesday with your seminars going on, and then Wednesday, Thursday, full days,
00:32:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
Thursday night, you wrap it up with some event and Friday morning, we're all at the airport flying home. I don't, I don't get it. and And every time we talk to somebody about it, it's a different excuse, right?
00:32:48
The SnowJobs Podcast
Well, the first year was the vendors don't want it. And then the second we, we put that to rest. And then the second year was what the, what was the, what was last year?
00:32:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
I can't remember Jay. What was the, we, we had the vendor thing put to rest. We actually asked all the vendors like, no, we'd love full two full days. I can't remember what the reason was.
00:33:06
RICK JAMES
Yeah, I'm not sure was.
00:33:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, it was set up. it It takes too long to set up to to do a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or or just Wednesday, Thursday. takes two and a half days or something to set up.
00:33:18
Steve Smythe
You look at like the APWA, the public work show, and that was actually in Grand Rapids this last year.
00:33:21
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:33:23
Steve Smythe
And I think they go, correct rick correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's Sunday through Wednesday. So i think their trade show opens on Monday.
00:33:32
Steve Smythe
even know if their trade show is open Sunday, but it could be. But it can be done.
00:33:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
So it can be done.
00:33:39
rick
The nightlife's very important though. There's so much in the nightlife.
00:33:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, I was figuring it.
00:33:42
The SnowJobs Podcast
The what is Rick?
00:33:44
rick
Right after so that six hours down at the Bob, that was just amazing.
00:33:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, 100%.
00:33:50
rick
And Arctic the second night with that, that's very important.
00:33:53
rick
We get a lot of stuff. And I asked a lot of people that came, they come for that nightlife.
00:34:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
100%.
00:34:01
The SnowJobs Podcast
And that's the thing. like Simon doesn't even have to be involved with it.
00:34:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
Leave it alone. the The manufacturers will take care of the parties for you.
00:34:09
The SnowJobs Podcast
All you got to do is publicize them. We'll get the people in the door. Don't worry about that. how was Speaking of the Arctic party, let's spend some time on that because I've heard that was kind of off the hook.
00:34:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
So how was it, everybody?
00:34:24
The SnowJobs Podcast
so saying ah like throw up sick
00:34:32
Steve Smythe
That came later for some,
00:34:32
The SnowJobs Podcast
so ah
00:34:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
a ah
00:34:37
RICK JAMES
That was a good boy.
00:34:38
The SnowJobs Podcast
how was the bob though well that was that was great right i heard 400 people in attendance
00:34:43
Steve Smythe
hear. The Bob was great. I mean, it's a straight family. They just put a heck of a show on that night and it was well thought out and just great food. Like Rick was saying, this the the people there, I mean, there was so many different people there. There was, you know, the people that run strictly Arctic and there was ones that, you know, have...
00:35:02
Steve Smythe
you know, you name it in their toolbox to go there. And it's just, it was super cool just to talk, talk to all them. And that's where a lot of the stuff happens. You know, the networking at night, in my opinion is, is where it's at.
00:35:16
The SnowJobs Podcast
Somebody said Metal Plus had a party. Did they have a party? Oh,
00:35:18
Steve Smythe
Uh, Syma had a party Tuesday night. Metal plus was the sponsor. And that was at a putt, putt golf, uh, deal.
00:35:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
all right.
00:35:25
RICK JAMES
Yeah, that was a good i party too.
00:35:25
Steve Smythe
It was cool. It was, it was packed.
00:35:27
Steve Smythe
It was, I worked it for the metal plus, uh,
00:35:31
Steve Smythe
team and help pass out the ticket deals or whatever. But yeah, it was ah it was a good night that night.
00:35:38
The SnowJobs Podcast
They should have told us.
00:35:38
RICK JAMES
was a good party.
00:35:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
We would have promoted it. We would put it out on the show. Any of the after stuff, we'll always put that out.
00:35:45
RICK JAMES
Yeah, no, that was a good party. It was a cool venue. That was a cool venue also. A lot of people there. So it was nice way to kind of kick it off and, you know, catch up with some people you haven't seen for a while.
00:35:56
RICK JAMES
So, no, enjoyed it. Arctic Party was great, like always. It had three different kind of rooms. They had the bar area and then they had a, where the band was at. The band was there and then they had another area off to the side too.
00:36:09
RICK JAMES
But they were going to have another area outside, but we had weather. So they, They shut that bar down and didn't have anything outside. but yeah, they're going to have an outside bar, and which have been I thought would have been really nice because it did get loud in there. so was So it was hard.
00:36:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
I heard the cups, like the cups they had were the best ever.
00:36:27
RICK JAMES
oh yeah, the cups are cool. They had our logo on and they had Case's logo on it. So, yeah, they're pretty cool. That's pretty.
00:36:32
The SnowJobs Podcast
oh shit.
00:36:32
RICK JAMES
Yeah, it was a fun party. There's a lot of people there.
00:36:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
How was the band?
00:36:38
Steve Smythe
That band was really good.
00:36:38
RICK JAMES
They were good.
00:36:38
Steve Smythe
I think what they do, like three different sets or maybe four, but it was, they were, they were really good.
00:36:43
Steve Smythe
Really good.
00:36:45
Matty Muscles
Band was great.
00:36:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's awesome. Good.
Success of Networking Events
00:36:50
RICK JAMES
Yeah, was it was just a good night.
00:36:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
Very good.
00:36:51
RICK JAMES
a lot of people coming in and out and, you know, just, you can move around the room and talk to somebody different, you know, all night long. So, yeah.
00:36:59
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's awesome. I'm sad I missed that one.
00:37:00
matt
The private party, that was good.
00:37:01
The SnowJobs Podcast
That sucks.
00:37:02
matt
They had really good food there. The food drink, there's a lot of lot of networking that night with people and stuff like that. It was a really good time.
00:37:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
Good. That was Thursday night.
00:37:15
The SnowJobs Podcast
Very cool.
00:37:15
The SnowJobs Podcast
Did you get in, Matt?
00:37:19
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right, good. yeah You're very worried about that. Told you i had it.
00:37:21
matt
Well, they weren't letting you anyone in.
00:37:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
Awesome. Yeah, I heard him.
00:37:23
matt
If you didn't have a thing, I can tell you that they were turning people away.
00:37:27
Steve Smythe
We your um you were out to dinner Thursday night, so I got there a little bit late, so I missed the food and stuff. But it was ah that was ah a great event, too.
00:37:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
awesome
00:37:35
Steve Smythe
Again, great group of people there.
00:37:35
RICK JAMES
That was really good.
00:37:37
matt
Matty Muscles was putting down that pork belly like it was going out of style.
00:37:42
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah heard of
00:37:44
Steve Smythe
I heard Pork Belly Recycles.
00:37:45
Matty Muscles
They did they did an amazing job.
00:37:46
Matty Muscles
Like, they don't mess around.
00:37:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, no, no, no.
00:37:49
Matty Muscles
there's There's no question about it.
00:37:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
Very cool.
00:37:51
Matty Muscles
Like, those guys, like, there's nothing that's missed. Yeah. You have a great time, great food, nothing is missed, and you don't have to worry about it. like The networking is what it's all about. I agree with Rick and what he said. like The nightlife is where you can make those connections, and you're going to meet up and talk with those people that you've looking been looking to talk to the whole time, and that's where it's all at.
00:38:18
The SnowJobs Podcast
very cool
00:38:18
RICK JAMES
Yeah, and the Arctic guys, at either party you went to, whichever night you were there, you see ah all the all the boys and Randy and them, therere and their whole team just going around talking to everybody.
00:38:29
RICK JAMES
Everybody's, nobody's, you know, they treat everybody the same. they It's just, they're just good people, you know, great for the industry, doing doing good things for us, so.
00:38:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely.
00:38:40
RICK JAMES
I mean, like, I said, second night, i think Matt talked to Tom Kennedy the first night. I talked to him the second night.
00:38:46
RICK JAMES
You know, I talked to Tom a little bit here and there. but i got I mean, I think I talked from an hour and a half to on Thursday, you know, learning more about his business and stuff. It it was really cool, you know you know, and he does that.
00:38:55
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, he's massive. Tom's massive in Jersey.
00:38:57
RICK JAMES
He does Matt life, and he was telling me to hold him and his whole team.
00:39:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:39:00
Matty Muscles
just in general, like he's a big dude.
00:39:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yes, he is.
00:39:03
Matty Muscles
Like I thought that was big, but he's a big guy.
00:39:06
Steve Smythe
ah That dude is big, man.
00:39:06
Matty Muscles
He's a large man.
00:39:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:39:10
Matty Muscles
he's a large man
00:39:12
RICK JAMES
Yeah, we'll crush you.
00:39:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, we'll have him on. We'll have him on before long. I tried to get him on, but apparently he was looking for an email and I shot him a text.
00:39:20
RICK JAMES
ah Yeah, I've texting them back and forth now.
00:39:21
The SnowJobs Podcast
So I'm like,
00:39:23
RICK JAMES
So yeah, we'll get them on shortly. so
00:39:25
The SnowJobs Podcast
definitely.
00:39:25
Matty Muscles
Tom's an awesome guy. It was great to learn about his operation and the way that they they go about everything. But like outside of Tom, I thought that there was a lot of other connections too there that was made, and at least on my end, where I was like, wow, this is completely worth it.
00:39:41
Matty Muscles
um you know You really can't miss it because of the nightlife connections that, like hey, listen, like we're not the show, but you're still all butre we're all in the same industry. like We're all in the same fight.
00:39:53
Matty Muscles
And you just like you're just not going to replicate that anywhere else.
00:39:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
um percent 100% that's where the, that's that's where the deals get done. You know, that's where it gets done.
00:40:02
Matty Muscles
That was cool.
00:40:05
Matty Muscles
I don't want to downplay either. Like the fact of the matter is like that place we were at the Bob, like that place was enormous and there was a lot of people there.
00:40:14
Matty Muscles
So it didn't feel like you were stuffed against the wall with, you know, shoulder to shoulder people. You could still be comfortable, have a conversation. And it was an amazing time.
00:40:25
Matty Muscles
Both nights, like completely separate venues, even though you were in the same place, which was kind of hard to believe, but it was a great time.
00:40:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
Sweet.
00:40:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's great. I'm glad to hear it went so well. I knew it would. um I was not happy to miss that, but what are you going to do? Did anybody go to any seminars?
00:40:48
Steve Smythe
Yeah, I went i went to a was able to sneak off went to a couple um went to one of the lunges. They had the snack and chats at the lunch. That was good. Jeremy Darling from JC grounds. um Did the presentation for that one on s SOPs.
00:41:04
Steve Smythe
That was good. And then I went to they had an operations operations management panel. Hosted by some ah a panel discussion on that with some operation managers from different companies I thought was was decent. And then Josh Breck did a discussion on marketing and whatnot that I thought was off off the chart. So...
00:41:28
The SnowJobs Podcast
cool very cool what what is matt up to you know you can see the reflection in the glass behind you matt right
00:41:39
RICK JAMES
I'm trying to.
00:41:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
oh man too funny too funny um what who who let's go around anybody uh who's the most interesting person you met this week
00:41:56
RICK JAMES
i I'd say Tom Kennedy myself. I mean, like I said, I met him a couple of times, but I really got to talk to him him and his, uh,
00:41:59
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay. What
00:42:04
RICK JAMES
Sal and I can't remember.
00:42:04
Matty Muscles
I would second that.
00:42:05
RICK JAMES
yeah I mean, he was, yeah, he was, uh,
00:42:06
Matty Muscles
I have another guy also.
00:42:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
do you got, Matt? Who's the other guy?
00:42:11
Matty Muscles
So, my um not only Tom Kennedy, anyy but the guys from ah Better Tractors, Better Made Tractors, whatever. like I thought that was a cool conversation. This guy, he was...
00:42:23
Matty Muscles
Pretty sure he was from Canada or Italy. He had an accent, but like he was awesome to talk to.
00:42:30
Matty Muscles
knew everything about their machine and everything while they were there. Even though there was a language barrier, I thought it was a fantastic conversation and learned a lot more about everything that they have going on. But I've been little bit you know in tune with what they have coming. And it's now in the U.S., so which I think is awesome.
00:42:54
Matty Muscles
But, well, it was, i don't know.
00:42:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
French and Italian sound nothing alike.
00:42:58
Matty Muscles
It was boring to me. So I was like, all right, fine. i I'm on board with it. But
00:43:03
RICK JAMES
Pretty sure it was Italian.
00:43:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's funny. Italian.
00:43:05
Matty Muscles
I'm sure might be.
00:43:05
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah Italian.
00:43:06
Matty Muscles
If it was Italian, fine.
00:43:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
but but
00:43:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's cool.
00:43:10
RICK JAMES
That was a cool machine. i was i was just going to say what it is.
00:43:13
Matty Muscles
Yeah, that thing was badass for sure.
00:43:17
The SnowJobs Podcast
What about you, Steve? What you got? Anybody? Who's the most interesting person?
00:43:23
Steve Smythe
yeah there's so many it's hard to it's hard to pinpoint one but i'll just i'll just say ashray i just i love that guy from up in canada he's a real supporter of uh us at storm that's just he's just awesome him and jeremy kirkum were over quite a bit and just good uh good support you know from those guys so
00:43:34
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, yeah.
00:43:36
RICK JAMES
Yeah, he's a good guy.
00:43:44
Matty Muscles
Those guys are awesome.
00:43:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
Uncle.
00:43:45
Matty Muscles
I like seeing them too. We see them all over the place.
00:43:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:43:50
RICK JAMES
Yeah, they they travel. They travel.
00:43:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
They come to a lot of stuff now.
00:43:52
RICK JAMES
they They come. Yeah, they're great guys.
00:43:55
The SnowJobs Podcast
Any chance to get out of Canada. They're jumping on that.
00:43:57
RICK JAMES
yeah i't Yeah, I don't blame them.
00:43:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
know, I don't blame them there.
00:43:58
Steve Smythe
Yeah, but the list, I mean, there's there's there are several. I don't want to, those two just jumped the mind right away, but there's there's a lot of lot of decent people. lot of connections made this week.
00:44:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, everybody's great, but like there's always people that stand out.
00:44:09
RICK JAMES
what What are your, I forgot the ah gentleman from ah Wisconsin that you borrowed the pickup last year.
00:44:16
RICK JAMES
They had that Wolf load mini compact.
00:44:18
Steve Smythe
Oh, Aaron and Aaron and Harry from extra mile.
00:44:22
RICK JAMES
They were awesome.
00:44:22
Steve Smythe
yep Yep. Wolf loaders.
00:44:23
Steve Smythe
there well that That whole team at extra miles is class act.
00:44:23
RICK JAMES
Those guys are awesome.
00:44:27
Steve Smythe
Those guys are awesome.
00:44:29
RICK JAMES
They were cool.
00:44:31
matt
They were good guys.
00:44:31
RICK JAMES
Yeah. They got a, they got a good operation there too.
00:44:32
matt
They talked about those machines, knew everything.
00:44:35
matt
They're really good.
00:44:35
Steve Smythe
There it is. There it is. Good people. I mean, obviously they let me take a truck from meeting them last year, you know, 10 minutes into meeting all the way back.
00:44:43
Steve Smythe
The mind broke down, but just, We've developed a relationship since then and they're just, they're awesome people. So
00:44:49
RICK JAMES
And those wolf's Wolf Compact loaders, they look like a good little unit you know for $69,000 something like that.
00:44:55
Steve Smythe
yeah, 60, 60, yeah.
00:44:57
Steve Smythe
High sixties for those with come with a snow tires. I mean, they got all different options and they run them in their own snow fleet up there. So they've, they've been battle tested for a while, you know, before they started selling them. So.
00:45:08
RICK JAMES
yeah shipping out a coms engine
00:45:10
Matty Muscles
i would question the I would question the guards, the tinfoil guards over the disc brakes in the front, though. would be my only reservation.
00:45:16
Steve Smythe
Sure. Uh-huh.
00:45:21
Matty Muscles
But if they work, they work like they look like they're solid, you know, solid units. And hey, listen, and like, you know, at the price point, you can't go wrong.
00:45:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, no.
00:45:32
The SnowJobs Podcast
At half price of what you're paying for.
00:45:33
matt
least at that price point, they have a joystick in there to use for the bucket and everything.
00:45:37
Matty Muscles
True. Yeah, true. Absolutely.
00:45:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah
00:45:40
RICK JAMES
yeah even And even that one had all the controls on it. You know, the other one had the two on the side of auxiliaries and ah the one you could
Product Highlights and Innovations
00:45:46
RICK JAMES
get for the, think it was the same price without the tele, you could get it with the telescoping boom or without and it had everything on the joystick.
00:45:53
RICK JAMES
So that was kind of nice.
00:45:56
The SnowJobs Podcast
Sweet. Matt, what about you? Most interesting person you met this week.
00:46:01
matt
I don't know. I didn't meet anyone new.
00:46:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay. You gotta to put yourself out there more.
00:46:07
matt
I don't. I just stay. and
00:46:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
Too standoffish.
00:46:10
matt
yeah I just walk around and keep my head down.
00:46:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
Uncle Rick, most interesting person you met this week?
00:46:16
rick
Well, I always get along with Ron from Muscox.
00:46:19
rick
We just think a lot of like he's old.
00:46:21
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, yeah.
00:46:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
You guys were separated at birth.
00:46:25
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah
00:46:27
The SnowJobs Podcast
Two mad scientists.
00:46:28
RICK JAMES
I still think we should put those two in a room and see they come up with.
00:46:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, absolutely. Lock him in a room for a weekend.
00:46:35
Steve Smythe
couple Sharpies and some notebook pads and then we'll see what that'd be awesome.
00:46:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
my God. That's it.
00:46:41
rick
Also got to meet the Jim McKenzie. And I guess it's a snowblower thing. He's from Pronovost. And after hours, Friday, he came over and took a tour at my place. And um that guy's amazing. He does like 4,000 driveways up in Canada with I don't know how many tractors.
00:47:04
rick
It's pretty impressive. And he he was excited to go through the shop. And I might be making some cylinders or something for him. People are surprised when they come through with all we do. it was which's good to meet Ron again. and I've never met Jim before, so it was good.
00:47:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
Cool. Sweet.
00:47:25
matt
Actually, I lied, Steve, I did meet someone, Chris.
00:47:28
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay.
00:47:29
matt
I met Chris at the after party for ECU.
00:47:35
matt
i've I've worked with him, text with him, message, but I've never met him. And then I finally got from East Coast facilities for facility care.
00:47:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
From where?
00:47:39
RICK JAMES
Oh, from, from facility care.
00:47:42
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, okay.
00:47:44
Steve Smythe
Well, Chris Tall, yeah, him and Scotty.
00:47:44
RICK JAMES
He's awesome. This is awesome.
00:47:46
matt
Yeah, and I never met.
00:47:46
Matty Muscles
ah Jesus bless you.
00:47:48
matt
Yeah, really good guy. had conversation with him for a long time.
00:47:49
Steve Smythe
Him and Scotty were there. Yep, both of them are awesome.
00:47:52
The SnowJobs Podcast
Cool. Very, very cool. ah What else?
00:47:56
RICK JAMES
No, but also what also, what also was, well, the Rick's got my, got me thinking again. Yeah. When I went over to Muscox, was like actually got to see the new you know updates on their blowers.
00:48:06
RICK JAMES
So that was pretty cool to see them in person.
00:48:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, yeah.
00:48:08
RICK JAMES
And then they're, You know, their booth is pretty sweet. Noah and Nathan, those guys there. That was and was was awesome.
00:48:17
The SnowJobs Podcast
The Muscox guys are always fun.
00:48:18
RICK JAMES
Ron was there. Handed out their Sharpies.
00:48:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
They're always fun.
00:48:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep, the Jeremy Lindstrom autographed Sharpies. Got him. Got to have him.
00:48:27
The SnowJobs Podcast
um But yeah, the Muscox, the new one is like just when you thought they couldn't like come up with anything to make that thing even any better, they did it.
00:48:37
RICK JAMES
Oh, and the boys at Muscox can get down too.
00:48:37
rick
He's got a little black book, too.
00:48:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
i think I think a lot of it.
00:48:40
RICK JAMES
They can get down dancing.
00:48:40
The SnowJobs Podcast
The what?
00:48:41
RICK JAMES
The boys at Muscox can get down dancing too.
00:48:42
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, absolutely. Yeah, they don't shy away.
00:48:44
RICK JAMES
all They were tearing it they're tearing it up.
00:48:47
rick
He's got a black book, too.
00:48:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
but yeah, the Muscox, they made a lot of improvements to that.
00:48:52
RICK JAMES
Yeah, they looked really sweet.
00:48:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
lot of improvements. Everything my guys were able to damage or break, they fixed. they They updated. It was ah it was fun. But yeah, I saw the new one, and it was, yeah, I'm like, whoa, okay.
00:49:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
And as always, do the guys, oh, this isn't dumb. This isn't dumb. Well, they're looking forward to winter.
00:49:12
RICK JAMES
The galvanized was awesome.
00:49:15
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:49:15
RICK JAMES
I like the galvanized look to it too. That was sweet.
00:49:17
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, ours got here just in time to kill the snow. It was literally like, I think the same later in the same day as the Arctic, as the Razorback showed up. And and that was it. That was the death to snow for ah for New York. They killed it.
00:49:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
Too much firepower. Mother Nature got afraid.
00:49:34
Steve Smythe
What was your guys' favorite product that you thought when you drove?
00:49:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:49:39
Steve Smythe
If you had to pick one, I guess, you know, there's a bunch i you could say, but if you were just to say what pops in your head first.
00:49:48
RICK JAMES
I would go ahead.
00:49:48
Matty Muscles
personally i would say as a as a consumer an end user i would look at
00:49:58
Matty Muscles
Even though he's on here, and Rick, we didn't expect you to be on here, but I was still going to shout you out. like The Snow Power backblade, like we don't like we don't even use backblades in this market.
00:50:08
Matty Muscles
like There's guys that do, but like Rick's backblade makes other backblades look like a Tonka toy.
00:50:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
Mm-mm.
00:50:15
Matty Muscles
It's not even a question. like And he and I, like we had this conversation. like i was Pat Sammon, he and I were walking around the show together. we were like, oh, my God, look just look at the pain on this thing. And we were questioning it. Rick explained the whole pain process to me. And it was like, they don't skip a beat. There's nothing that's missed.
00:50:36
Matty Muscles
Anything like that. like There's just like every last detail. it It was taken care of. so like and i'm not a i am not a Snow Power Backblade user.
00:50:47
Matty Muscles
and i Honestly, God, i I never will be. and i don't I don't intend to offend you that way, Rick, but like that thing, like you guys have it dialed in. There's nothing that is missed on that.
00:50:59
Matty Muscles
Anybody looking to use in a Backblade, you shouldn't look anywhere else. The Top Guns are awesome as well. Don't get me wrong. I know what show we're on, but... Like, it was just, it was very impressive to me.
00:51:13
Matty Muscles
I couldnt couldn't be more, you know, more impressed.
00:51:18
Steve Smythe
A lot of attention to detail on it for sure.
00:51:19
matt
Active Edge is game changer.
00:51:21
Matty Muscles
Absolutely, without a doubt.
00:51:24
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, i I mean, well, that's the that's a difference that everybody doesn't have. Everybody doesn't have a Rick. You know? that's like yeah Oh, man, the mad scientist.
00:51:32
Matty Muscles
Yeah, no, without a doubt.
00:51:38
The SnowJobs Podcast
What else? who else got a product? Best product they saw.
00:51:43
RICK JAMES
I saw a black article that looked pretty fucking cool, but I might be biased.
00:51:46
The SnowJobs Podcast
i was so that That is probably my biggest regret is not being able to take a picture with you, Jeremy, in front of that.
00:51:50
Matty Muscles
badass. It was badass. He asked me you missed out. Like, what the hell?
00:51:56
The SnowJobs Podcast
You know, ah that but seriously, though, that is probably my biggest regret is not being able to take a picture with Jeremy in front of that. Like how far we've come in two and a half years.
00:52:07
Matty Muscles
But the picture is better without you.
00:52:07
The SnowJobs Podcast
Like we.
00:52:09
Matty Muscles
Sorry to say, Steve.
00:52:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
it It definitely was no arguments, no arguments, but.
00:52:13
Steve Smythe
the pretty good at Photoshop and I could probably get you in on that picture by the Arctic.
00:52:17
The SnowJobs Podcast
we We definitely do.
00:52:17
RICK JAMES
Oh, yeah, could.
00:52:18
The SnowJobs Podcast
Well, I mean, I think it's going to be at a quip. So i think I think we'll be able to get a picture there. But yeah, that's like just seeing a jet black Arctic with our logo on it. That's like so fucking trippy.
00:52:31
Steve Smythe
I would I would say for me, um
00:52:31
RICK JAMES
That was cool.
00:52:31
Matty Muscles
It pretty sick.
00:52:36
Steve Smythe
There's quite a few things with that 421 case. I just, I, I, I love that loader.
00:52:41
Steve Smythe
I saw Scotty and Chris tall. I said, I said, you guys got to get one so I can jump in one of those this winter and, or whoever else out there that's listening wants to get one, I'll jump in it. But that's a, I want to.
00:52:52
Matty Muscles
That thing's drill worthy if you ask me. like
00:52:55
Steve Smythe
Yeah. I want to, I want to plow in one of those this winter really bad.
00:52:57
Matty Muscles
Yeah, without a doubt.
00:53:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
Did anybody check out the mini the mini case?
00:53:00
RICK JAMES
I was like, yep,
00:53:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
Like I asked.
00:53:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, how was it?
00:53:05
Steve Smythe
Those are pretty sweet.
00:53:08
Steve Smythe
Arctic had those when they're on the storm chasing series. Yeah, they look, they're they're legit. so
00:53:15
The SnowJobs Podcast
Very cool.
00:53:16
Steve Smythe
Talk to Ryan and
00:53:17
RICK JAMES
Yeah, there we
00:53:17
Matty Muscles
je when When Pat Salmon sat in it, like when we were going around the show, the one thing I will say is like it looked like the controls on it sat a little bit low. And we all know, and anybody who doesn't know, but Pat is a ah short, small guy. or He's not short, but he's like lanky and I don't know.
00:53:37
Matty Muscles
I guess I would call him a small guy. But it looked like the controls were a little bit low for on the right hand side for your joystick. But I think that's something that could easily be retrofitted if you even had to.
00:53:50
Matty Muscles
um to make it more comfortable for an operator but outside of that the thing is like it's it's an awesome looking machine and uh talking to the arctic guys who use them like on a regular basis i think you can't go wrong
00:54:05
The SnowJobs Podcast
Nice.
00:54:06
matt
you know, what's great about that machine too, is it has armrests.
00:54:09
Matty Muscles
yeah absolutely yep on both sides yeah both sides both sides
00:54:09
RICK JAMES
Yeah. 421 didn't.
00:54:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
and yeah
00:54:12
RICK JAMES
421 didn't. Yeah. Those are sweet. Yeah. Yeah.
00:54:15
Steve Smythe
And for like landscaping or whatever, you're going to be able to use that thing in the summertime for enhancement work and stuff like that.

00:54:30
RICK JAMES

The SnowJobs Podcast

00:54:44
RICK JAMES
Yeah, the 938 was the one with the joystick controls but like we had that one season.
00:54:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
Just for starters.
00:54:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's cool.
00:54:56
RICK JAMES
So that was cool to see and again. So if anybody's looking at it, get that one here.
00:55:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
Nice.
00:55:03
RICK JAMES
I mean, get that joystick control. That's <unk>s so nice.
00:55:08
The SnowJobs Podcast
Glacier tested. Glacier approved.
00:55:10
RICK JAMES
Yeah, stamped.
00:55:11
Matty Muscles
There was rumor that it's going to be feeding down to the 908, 906 market too. On those with the joystick controls.
00:55:16
RICK JAMES
I would love that. I would love that.
00:55:19
Matty Muscles
It's only a matter of time, but...
00:55:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
Was Hyundai there?
00:55:25
Steve Smythe
I did not see them there.
00:55:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
XCMG?
00:55:31
Steve Smythe
No, I didn't see that either.
00:55:32
RICK JAMES
What's the orange one?
00:55:32
The SnowJobs Podcast
What the fuck?
00:55:33
RICK JAMES
orange one was Hitachi.
00:55:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
Hitachi.
00:55:36
RICK JAMES
Hitachi was there.
00:55:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
I thought she was there.
00:55:40
The SnowJobs Podcast
Wow. No XCMGs.
00:55:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
Okay.
00:55:45
matt
So, ah the product that i like
00:55:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
Can't force them.
00:55:45
RICK JAMES
Like I said that But like I said, that don't know. Yeah.
00:55:49
matt
And I got to go see again and they're going to be making a lot of stuff is the view camera. I know it's a little part of our snow business, but talking to Patrick and going over all that stuff.
00:55:58
matt
ah They're doing some cool things with that. So, yeah.
00:56:02
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, View is the best. Everybody loves those cameras.
00:56:03
RICK JAMES
yeah and they were Yeah, they were cool.
00:56:05
The SnowJobs Podcast

00:56:06
Steve Smythe
Yeah, Pat and Chris are both...
00:56:06
matt
Yeah, they have some new technology coming out with them and stuff.
00:56:09
matt
It's going to be sweet.
00:56:11
Matty Muscles
Yeah, I agree.
00:56:11
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's
00:56:12
Matty Muscles
they It was great to connect with them. And they brought on a couple new guys that are ex-military. And like it's they're they're pointing in the right direction. There's no doubt about that.
00:56:23
RICK JAMES
Yeah, they're great guys to talk to. i mean, they're just down to earth. They'll talk to you all day long. this
00:56:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:56:29
RICK JAMES
I can't say enough good things about them.
00:56:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely.
00:56:31
RICK JAMES
And we stopped to talk to you guys over at Yeti, too, Matt.
00:56:32
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, they're good people.
00:56:34
RICK JAMES
error ah they got some they got some
00:56:35
Matty Muscles
Oh, yeah, the Yeti guys.
00:56:36
Matty Muscles
Yeah, I love them.

RICK JAMES
They got some make us some new things coming out there, too.
00:56:40
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, yeah?
00:56:40

00:56:42
Matty Muscles
Yep, absolutely.
00:56:42
RICK JAMES
Yeah, well, they're in they're in the green green a little bit now, too, so that's kind of cool.
00:56:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
Cool.
00:56:44
matt
Yeah. Doing the green. Yeah.
00:56:46
Steve Smythe
Yeah, Bart from Yeti was one of our panelists in our discussion.
00:56:46
The SnowJobs Podcast
Nice.
00:56:49
Steve Smythe
they They're good people. so
00:56:51
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep, absolutely they are.
00:56:51
Matty Muscles
Yeah. As an end user who I love Yeti, like nothing bad to say about them. Like they're awesome. can again Can't say anything bad about them. Like they're the best.
00:57:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
love fest tonight. Matt's just Mr. Love, just spewing spewing love on everybody.
00:57:09
Matty Muscles
um'm I'm a big lover.
00:57:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah Oh, that Rick.
00:57:10
Matty Muscles
I'm a big lover.
00:57:14
Matty Muscles
Awesome socks, too.
00:57:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, there you go.
00:57:15
Matty Muscles
Love those socks.
00:57:17
The SnowJobs Podcast
Rick, what, uh, what, what was your favorite product to see?
00:57:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
You can't say snow power.
00:57:22
rick
No, it wasn't snow power. I don't know. i I didn't really get to go around that much, but Hill Tip, is that the big fancy salt spreader? Hill Topper Tip.
00:57:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep. That is the big fancy self-spreader.
00:57:33
rick
I talked to a few people because they were next to me, and I guess theyre their controls, they they were within two pounds of emptying the hopper.
00:57:44
rick
ah Apparently, they can keep track of the the weight of that hopper pretty good when it spreads.
00:57:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
They definitely can.
00:57:51
rick
but it's a ton of money.
00:57:52
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:57:53
The SnowJobs Podcast
It's a ton of money, but they it's the tech is great. It absolutely is.
00:57:58
RICK JAMES
Tech is great.
00:57:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
if then
00:57:59
The SnowJobs Podcast
Like Jeremy always says to everybody, like if you're gonna if you're going to use it how it's designed, then it's fucking awesome ah you know if you can if you can afford it. um But if you're not going to use all those features, know you don't need it.
00:58:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
you know You don't need something like that. It's like buying a Ferrari and putting an automatic transmission in it. you like you know You don't want to do that. But ah yeah, no, the tech is incredible in those things. They're great units. Jeremy's got a bunch of them.
00:58:26
rick
Yeah, i want to look through it because I have a patent pending coming up on a fertilizer spreader, and it's right down the same alley, and I've got an auger, and i got I just got to drill into it and make sure what it's doing so that I could learn from it because I'm working on it.
00:58:33
The SnowJobs Podcast
Of course you do.
00:58:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
There you go.
00:58:46
RICK JAMES
do. Oh, Craig, he'll help you out here.
00:58:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
Well, yeah, Jeremy can make the intro there.
00:58:50
RICK JAMES
Craig or Frank, they'll help you.
00:58:53
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah up What about you, Matt?
00:58:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
Best product you saw?
00:58:57
matt
The view camera when I was there.
00:58:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
all right.
00:58:59
matt
So I said, yeah, they're going through it was great.
00:59:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right, my bad.
00:59:01
matt
I mean, there's a lot of great products there, but I, that I really, I got some this year, you know, for the last snow season and those, they helped me a lot. And then just going through and talk to them again about the new, new things you're be bringing on board and stuff like that.
00:59:14
matt
And with their weather and radar system they have on it.
00:59:17
The SnowJobs Podcast
Did they already have a new camera there or it's just what's coming?
00:59:17
matt
It's just what's coming in the new technology they're to be putting putting into it.
00:59:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
Gotcha.
00:59:25
The SnowJobs Podcast
I got you.
00:59:27
RICK JAMES
tell you what i i did miss was uh winter winter to equipment i went by their booth and ron wasn't there i was kind of really disappointed to see ron yeah so hopefully he comes to storm days but yeah yeah so i apparently got new sales force or something i don't know but he's he's too big
00:59:33
The SnowJobs Podcast
What?
00:59:38
The SnowJobs Podcast
Why wasn't Ron there?
00:59:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
Ron goes to everything, Winter. Ron ah goes to everything.
00:59:49
Steve Smythe
ron Ron is winter, isn't he?
00:59:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, yeah, well well well we'll we'll make a phone call in the morning.
00:59:51
RICK JAMES
well ron is winter yeah yeah
00:59:54
RICK JAMES
I was just wondering why not too long because always love talking to him. That guy's so smart when it comes to edges and what they got coming up. and I don't even understand half the stuff he says, but sounds cool.
00:59:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
We'll get that
01:00:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah Steve, did you give a product yet?
01:00:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
What'd you give?
01:00:15
The SnowJobs Podcast
I missed it. Oh, the 421. That's right. You did say 421.
01:00:18
RICK JAMES
You're going to have to buy one of your armrests and bring with you from Storm because it only has one armrest.
01:00:24
Steve Smythe
ah four twenty one does
Humor and Commercial Breaks
01:00:26
RICK JAMES
doesn't come with a...
01:00:26
Matty Muscles
No, it comes with two armrests. Come on.
01:00:28
RICK JAMES
No, it doesn't.
01:00:29
Matty Muscles
Yes, it does.
01:00:31
RICK JAMES
No, it doesn't.
01:00:32
RICK JAMES
No, it doesn't. It's just like a 321.
01:00:33
The SnowJobs Podcast
got two doors, but only one armrest.
01:00:35
Matty Muscles
It's not a John Gere, Jeremy.
01:00:37
Matty Muscles
It's a fucking case.
01:00:39
RICK JAMES
Okay. we I'll take it. It doesn't have an armrest, Matt.
01:00:45
Matty Muscles
You don't need an armrest on the left side if you're fucking steering the whole time.
01:00:51
The SnowJobs Podcast
Jeremy likes a left armrest.
01:00:53
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right. We've been over this. We've dedicated entire episodes to this.
01:00:54
RICK JAMES
Cruising on the road.
01:00:56
Steve Smythe
and and Yeah, we got got a couple around there.
01:00:56
RICK JAMES
but we build out when you goes When you drive that thing as much as we do, guys like to just chill out with their arm down and go.
01:01:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
Matt, we're hobby pushers, bro. Remember.
01:01:06
Matty Muscles
Yeah, good point.
01:01:11
RICK JAMES
Storm will hook us up with an armrest. Don't worry.
01:01:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
That is storm solved. Armrest unrest 23. They did.
01:01:20
Steve Smythe
Dano's got a bunch of them sitting there. Pretty good.
01:01:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, man. Well, what else do we got, boys? What else you guys want to talk about from the week?
01:01:28
RICK JAMES
I do commercial.
01:01:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, we can do commercials. We'll let everybody get a drink. We'll hit them real quick.
01:02:26
The SnowJobs Podcast
All we're back. That guy on the plow ride commercial sounds oddly familiar. Just little bit.
01:02:32
Matty Muscles
how did you get How did you get him to do that commercial for you?
01:02:36
matt
so this is how it happened is I I sent it to him to give him what I wanted and then he just used mine instead of him doing on it yeah
01:02:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah Brandon.
01:02:38
Matty Muscles
We know you got Brandon to do it.
01:02:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, that was classic. I remember hearing that the first time. Like, why is Brandon from LADC doing Matt's plow right commercial? ah Sounds so alike.
01:03:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
Too close. Oh, all right. What else do we got, boys? It's your show. I wasn't there, so I don't know what to ask.
01:03:08
RICK JAMES
Well, I would say, I'd say if somebody, somebody wants to come to sign the next year, put yourself out there, go to the after party stuff, meet new people.
01:03:11
Matty Muscles
Go ahead, Jim.
01:03:20
RICK JAMES
That's where you're going learn the most stuff, you know, or meet new connections.
01:03:25
RICK JAMES
That's what this whole industry is, is connections from one guy to the next, site you meet one guy and then you meet 10 other guys. And that's how it's good. That's how you're going to grow your business and learn more things than are you sitting in a class? My opinion.
01:03:37
Steve Smythe
and Next year, that that's going to be in Cincinnati.
01:03:38
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah
01:03:41
The SnowJobs Podcast
Hmm.
01:03:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's interesting.
01:03:46
The SnowJobs Podcast
Uh, I got, i got an actual question to throw out to you guys since attendance, since I think you guys all agree the tenants was down this year. Do you think the emergence of the one day regional stuff,
01:03:59
The SnowJobs Podcast
is hurting this the Sima Big Show, like the storm days, the S&S days, the Storks, all those events throughout the the spring and summer. Do you think that's taken away where guys are like, you know, hey, I don't have to go to wherever Sima is this year. I can go for a lot less money to like a Storks if I'm within, you know, four or five hour drive.
Regional vs. Large Shows
01:04:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
like I was just thinking about that, and i'm like, I wonder i like ah wonder if that's actually having an effect, those one-day events that there's so many of them now. There's one a month from April to you know October that you go to.
01:04:33
matt
So I think of those, the one day shows like that, I think you, connect more with people there. um I think you might get a ah lot more out of that one day show being if it's in your region or anything like that.
01:04:49
matt
And they're just, you know, being a little bit smaller, they're more personal, I think you're able to be free to talk to people anytime you're there.
01:04:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
sure
01:04:58
matt
And there's a lot of good stuff. I mean, like Storks had a great, you know, thing. S&S last year is is was a great one, I thought, you know, just being able to move around and talk to all the different people in there from vendors that the people, got you know, the cost of everything.
01:05:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah Yeah, absolutely. SNS was like, that was like the dream show for a lot of guys. Like, Hey, uh, my name's Tony. This is my place. Uh, okay.
01:05:24
The SnowJobs Podcast
yeah What's mine is yours.
01:05:27
The SnowJobs Podcast
And, uh, you know, here's a ton of great food and just talk amongst yourselves the whole day.
01:05:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
And that's, that was awesome.
01:05:34
matt
Because I think sometimes they're too organized or too much. Like I go here, I go there, I go there.
01:05:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yes.
01:05:40
matt
And it's just, that makes me crazy.
01:05:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
Let snow guys figure out their own path. I guarantee you they will.
01:05:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
They will figure it And like we've all said it, you you meandered around to all the different groups. Like all of those groups changed whoever was there in the conversation to 10 or 15 people.
01:05:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
Every hour, hour and a half, you'd have four guys filter out, four new guys filter over. It was awesome. And then you throw in that that spread. Like, forget it.
01:06:06
The SnowJobs Podcast
i'll I'll do that every week if you want me to.
01:06:09
RICK JAMES
The mushroom, right, Steve?
01:06:09
The SnowJobs Podcast
No problem. Send me the mushrooms. What's that?
01:06:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
Send me the mushrooms.
01:06:13
RICK JAMES
Stop the stuffed mushrooms, and that was you're eating.
01:06:15
The SnowJobs Podcast
That's it.
01:06:15
Steve Smythe
those Those were good.
01:06:17
The SnowJobs Podcast
Give me that caterer. I will be there every week. ah But do you think, I mean, honestly, though, am I am i crazy out of left
Show Costs and Audience Targeting
01:06:26
The SnowJobs Podcast
field with that? Or do you think that's maybe hurting some attendance when it's costing you probably two to three grand to go to Syma if it's not close to you?
01:06:34
RICK JAMES
I never thought of that, but yeah, I'd probably agree with it. i don't know if, I mean, yeah, I think that's probably part of it. And also, think, don't it was with you, Matt, walking around from Clippers.
01:06:46
RICK JAMES
I think you said it. Maybe they should just do that like a Simei every two two years or three years.
01:06:52
RICK JAMES
Maybe that would make people more excited.
01:06:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
Like a Connex type deal?
01:06:57
RICK JAMES
I think it was Matt.
01:06:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
Hmm.
01:06:58
RICK JAMES
Yeah, I think you said that to me. I was like, yeah, I never thought it.
01:07:00
RICK JAMES
That might make sense. Especially since there's all these regional ones now.
01:07:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
01:07:05
matt
Well, this is gonna be my take on Simon. All right. My take on Simon is the, the customer or people they're going after is the bigger people of the snow force is what I believe.
01:07:20
matt
So in the S&S show or Stork show, you're getting your everyday snow guy in there. And I think they get more out of that than they do going to this big show.
01:07:28
The SnowJobs Podcast
Sure.
01:07:33
matt
i The price and being able to interact with the people that you're going to that show with is huge. Because, I mean, it's just a different experience. And just me, I just think Simon goes after the top echelon of the snow world.
01:07:49
matt
I mean, how many snow fighters are in the snow network?
01:07:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
sure
01:07:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
I mean, that's where the money is.
01:07:55
matt
How many is there? Is there 100,000?
01:07:57
The SnowJobs Podcast
Nobody can answer that question. Like we've gotten, we've tried to find that out. Nobody really can answer that question.
01:08:03
matt
So if there's 100,000, or even as 50,000, right? And you only have 2000 at your biggest snow show. There's, there's an issue.
01:08:13
The SnowJobs Podcast
I think you're less than 50. I think personally, I think you're less than 50 and somebody threw the example of bright view.
01:08:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
And then they said, bright views, 10,000 employees right there. I'm like, but only half of bright views portfolio pushes snow.
01:08:24
Steve Smythe
Yeah, but yeah not even half.
01:08:28
The SnowJobs Podcast
Not even half. So, you know, you, you can't use all 10,000 and say they're all snow guys. Maybe 2000 of them are, you know, but, uh, yeah, I would, ah Jeremy, what do you think?
01:08:40
The SnowJobs Podcast
I mean, I, if I had to put my, my pin on the board, you know, pin the tail on the donkey with number of snow people, 25 to 30,000, that would be my guess. Anybody, what what are your guesses out there?
01:08:54
RICK JAMES
I mean, as in companies you're talking, obviously.
01:08:56
matt
Maybe between north.
01:08:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
No, it's just guys out there that are pushing snow, either owner operator or just guys operating.
01:09:05
RICK JAMES
yeah I mean, yeah.
01:09:07
matt
It seems like there would be over 30,000. That's just me.
01:09:09
RICK JAMES
Yeah, there's a lot of, I mean, if you're talking, you're talking guys that are,
01:09:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
I don't know. I mean, how many states are pushing snow? First of all,
01:09:16
RICK JAMES
on the ground doing the work there's gotta be more than that doesn't there you know nu but but they're not they're they're the guys are they're not gonna come to these shows i mean they're not gonna come these shows they're just well these guys are just doing this for extra money you know that's part of the problem with our industry it's so seasonal and part-time-ish well
01:09:18
matt
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
01:09:19
rick
There is more than that.
01:09:19
matt
I mean, if it's two guys in a truck, I mean, yeah
01:09:19
The SnowJobs Podcast
I don't know.
01:09:31
The SnowJobs Podcast
Well, I was trying to be nice because, I mean, if there's 100,000, you're only getting 2,000 to the show. You're not really reaching the masses of the the industry.
01:09:37
matt
I mean, you're counting Canada too. And I know Canada, not a lot of people, but if it's the biggest snow show in, you know, you would think you would be drawing a lot of
01:09:45
The SnowJobs Podcast

They get a ton of people there. I mean, it's just, you just, I don't know. I don't know if it's the show. I don't know what it is, but it just seems like you could get more people in.
01:10:14
The SnowJobs Podcast
I think there's a lot more. That's a much bigger industry, though. Concrete. Concrete's going on in all 50 states.
01:10:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
