The Pace of Growth and Its Importance

00:00:11
Speaker
Today's three minute thought is more of a reminder than anything else. And that is to understand the reality that the things that are most important or that are longest lasting normally take time. And I know that might sound like a simple concept,
00:00:27
Speaker
But a lot of us get caught up in either the microwave mentality where we want something done right away, or we want to start to see results faster than we're currently seeing them, whatever the reason may be. But you need to understand that becoming self-aware or connecting to your heart or learning how to navigate your inner world in a way that's healthy.
00:00:49
Speaker
Becoming grounded, becoming established in your identity, all of these things that we're talking about related to healthy masculinity, they take time.

Recognizing and Reflecting on Growth

00:00:57
Speaker
And not only that, but a lot of times you don't realize the growth you're experiencing when you're in your day-to-day life. I often have clients where if we've met for three months or six months, we will literally take an entire session to review how far they have come in just six months.
00:01:17
Speaker
When you think about six months in the scope of an individual's life, it's really short. It's really not much. But trudging through week by week of digging things up or confronting them or changing internal paradigms, all of that can feel like you're not making progress because you're falling back into old habits or whatever it may be.
00:01:35
Speaker
And so taking that time to sit down and think about how far have you come in the last six months? How far have you come in the last year? Are you the same person that you were 10 years ago, five years ago, three years ago? If you're driven by the desire to improve your life and the life of those around you, more than likely you're not the same person.

The Role of Patience in Personal Growth

00:01:55
Speaker
You know, Jeff Bezos, he very famously has said that all overnight success normally takes about 10 years. And I think that's a really good lens on what I'm talking about, which is when you set a marker internally of becoming something more or getting healing, it's important to understand that it

Instant Change vs. Lasting Progress

takes time.
00:02:13
Speaker
That may not be what you want to hear, but that's the reality of it. Now, in my experience, God can heal something that has taken years in a moment, or you can go into an old memory and rewire it and see fundamental change. All of that is applicable and true, but it still requires you to walk out your life with that new reality internally to actually see the change that you experience in that moment.
00:02:40
Speaker
And that's really what I want to remind you of today is give yourself grace, cut yourself a little bit of slack, sit down and think about how far you have come in the last few years or last year. So today is just a reminder that growth is a process and you cannot expect to see something change that is lasting.
00:03:03
Speaker
in a short period of time. Be willing to celebrate your growth as you go along the way and understand that it will be more than worth it when you fundamentally change the trajectory of your internal world and more than likely generations to come.
