Introduction to Eryth and Characters

00:00:29
Speaker
Hello everyone and welcome to this week's episode of The Fellowship of the Tabletop. Tabletop? We are a live play 5e D&D podcast set in the mythical world of Eryth. My name is Mark, I am the Dungeon Master and also with us for today's episode we have Callum, who plays the gnome sorcerer fully fizzle-banged the ninth. Hello! I've gone the opposite order. Will, who plays the wood elf monk Elphir. Let's get our roleplay on.
00:01:00
Speaker
That's how my daughter was born Danny you're welcome Danny you place the human cleric Claude I am here you Wow, just blow by that Darren who placed the human fighter rogue Robin I am also happy to confirm that I'm here in who plays the dragonborn barbarian dragon. I have nothing
00:01:25
Speaker
those openings. Hi, thank you for joining us everyone.

Post-Battle Reflection and Encounters

00:01:29
Speaker
On last week's episode we had a really low key post-battle episode where we approached a couple of conversations and we started to unpick some of the information that the party had received. We learnt a little bit through Garmir who was the commander of the 4th which is a battalion of the Obsidianis, a force that many of the party don't know much about. They saved Blykmore and then quickly rode off to Valor Guard, another area that they have yet to visit.
00:01:54
Speaker
Arkwood commended the party and set them up in lodgings in the bronze casket to stay the night giving them food so that bronze cask, not bronze casket. That's a cemetery place, no that's a very fancy cemetery.
00:02:10
Speaker
Claude went to the battlefield to bless those of the dead, to make sure they don't come back to life. He also saw many of the undead corpses being burned. There was a very intense... I thought he was also out of the battlefield taking samples from the under, however. An intense conversation in between our remaining Sword Coastian people.
00:02:29
Speaker
Robin and Elphir, where Elphir approached Drago regarding his recklessness in battle. This sent a bit of a spiral, Robin ended up walking away, and left a rather raw conversation taking place between Elphir and Drago, where Drago's history was brought to the fore, which actually, to be perfectly honest with you in this and that, literally none of us had heard much of before, which was intense to say the least.
00:02:54
Speaker
I had to see someone cancelling us. You literally did. We cancelled this week. We had a long conversation, you were lying on a sofa. After that, the conversation ensued with Claude and Tali outside where Claude comforted Tali in her state of disillusionment about everything at the moment, which he seems to have quite recently actually, a couple of times. Claude then went inside and met a rather drunken drago and had a conversation where drago approached his recklessness and whether he or not Claude thought he was reckless. And they came up with an agreement that if
00:03:22
Speaker
Drago was being reckless that Claude would send a signal. Now it's left really vague, which I'm really looking forward to seeing what the signal is when Claude thinks he's being too reckless. And now Drago is the proud owner of a teddy bear. Oh my god, yes.

Shared Dreams and Quest Revelations

00:03:38
Speaker
He's got a teddy bear. Drago went to bed and Claude gave him a teddy bear to help him sleep, which was great. We finished the episode, which was an extended episode, so thank you for sticking with it. Hope you stayed for that last conversation, because oh my god, health there and
00:03:50
Speaker
Robin, up in Robin's room, having a very, very, very frank conversation about a number of issues that were plaguing both of them at the time, and we left the episode there. We're going to take up this episode. It was an awkward battle. Battles never seemed to fall at a nice moment in time. They never really match up with your normal patterns.
00:04:07
Speaker
Everyone had slowly teetered off to bed, or at kind of down time so to speak, so kind of at rest in some way shape or form. It doesn't necessarily have to be sleeping, it could have been just drinking and then resting by a fire, but nonetheless will treat it as a long rest. So I know many of you didn't take damage, but if you did, your hip wants to return to you, you have your spell slots returned, you have
00:04:29
Speaker
your action surge, you have your abilities returned, your key points as well, so they are all returned to you. We're going to consider that considering the physical endurance you've been through over the last couple of days, the aggressiveness and draining mate-share and exhaustion that goes into a large-scale battle such as that, despite not taking a long time, it's physically and mentally draining. That your long rest constitutes more than eight hours and actually takes us through so you would have
00:05:04
Speaker
own thing in the in the day quietly and maybe gone to sleep at around lunchtime and probably slept straight through till the morning so we're gonna awake in the morning we'll start this episode in the morning at the bronze car square where we are

Visions and Breakfast Discussions

00:05:20
Speaker
We start off with Tani, who's downstairs in the bronze cask, which is now quiet. A lot of the tables have been packed away. The small halfling lady who's running the place is moving around, bringing some food to her, a number of eggs, and a series of kind of what looked like fried potato, which is the kind of staple breakfast around here. She's there eating away. And Claude, you're the first one to walk down the stairs that morning.
00:05:47
Speaker
And you see Charlie, pretty much sat in an empty pub here, in silence, kind of quietly, eating away. Hello, Claude. How'd you, er, how'd you sleep? Oh, is that OK? Did you ensure your eggs were blessed before eating them? Oh, no, I forgot, but I think maybe the lady did. I don't know. Are you feeling any better? Yeah.
00:06:12
Speaker
I think so. I think our conversation yesterday helped. I felt better after speaking to you, so thank you. It's OK. I'm still concerned about what I saw, though, in that dream or nightmare or vision. What vision? The one before everything went wrong.
00:06:45
Speaker
We were there. We all had the same. We talked about it last... not last night, yesterday. We shared a similar vision of a town, of a creature of... I saw that. I saw that vision. We were over in that town with that man hanging. Did you see that? I did. Why did you? I don't...
00:07:14
Speaker
Oh, I'm very confused. What about you? I don't know. Sorry, just at that point the halfling comes around and just hands you a plate of eggs and fried potato. Morning, I walked off. Thank you. Welcome. These smell lovely. Oh, thank you. I sound good then. And she walks off. I'm very confused, Charlie. Fork in the plate, massive scoop of eggs into the mouth. What? Is it you're confused about?
00:07:48
Speaker
And how's the floor? Shit, that's hitting me in the face. Can you just chew your food, wait a second, and then I got like potato in my eye. Oh, sorry. Sorry about that. It's the cheese. That went in my mouth. Oh, fucking hell. It's the cheese. What? The cheese. Jesus Christ, the cheese, sorry. Why shouldn't it be cheese? Oh, God. Oh, maybe my milk is turned.
00:08:19
Speaker
I haven't even ate it. Right, so you had... Let's back up a minute, please, Corn. You just spat food in my mouth. I'm sorry. That's really fucking gross,

Magic Unveiled and Its Wonders

00:08:32
Speaker
and... You're not from Sleekard. We... I don't think they do that here. I think they're pulling my leg. Might be. Yeah, I hope so. I can see you. It's fine. I've had worse... No, I'm not gonna say both.
00:08:51
Speaker
she draws a line through her legs and says that's the line we're not gonna cross it and she then mashes them all up and starts eating again what are you confused about you notice how much
00:09:08
Speaker
You saw the vision that I saw. There was a dragon that looked like Dribbo, but wasn't. And a tiny person would look like you, a bit, but wasn't. And then all that stuff happened. Wait. And then there was a whisper. Someone said something. There was. Something dangerous. We saw our dragonborn was Bell Prax.
00:09:36
Speaker
He was someone that we, the four of us, the five of us before Shadar died, that we were hunting for quite some time. And by the end, his mind was lost and he was talking no sense. He killed Shadar's sister and that was why we were looking for him. But why we saw him, I don't know. And what about the other bit of it?
00:10:03
Speaker
Which pen? We had to find the whispering orders. The order of whispers? I saw that too. I heard that. You heard all of that.
00:10:17
Speaker
I think we all did. I think we had a shared vision. We were all there. I looked and saw you and saw Polly and saw Elphir and Robin and Draco. We were all there. Oh no. Why? There's nothing. I can't say. I mustn't say. Right. Mustn't say. You see, it worries me when you say that, Claude, because it makes it sound like we're all fucked and like you're prolonging the inevitable demise of the party and that worries me. I'm very confused, Holly. Right.
00:10:47
Speaker
Now you're starting to scare me a little bit. Oh, don't be scared. Remember what I said? You're not going to be hurt as long as we're here. But then you did your constipated voice, where you went, oh! And then I get worried when you do that, because it sounds like you're going to either shit yourself or I'm going to die. If I may be excused from the table, miss. Me? Oh, yeah, yeah, if you want to be excused. You can have my eggs. Really? I was going to walk outside in a bit of a haste. OK. Lovely.
00:11:15
Speaker
Tally's going to continue to sit there. The next person to come down is going to be Folly, because again, you went to bed quite early on. Or went to your room quite early on, so you rested up quite a bit. You then walk down the stairs and see again Tally and I'll start with two plates worth of food. She's there taking some bites out of each, kind of enjoying the food. Folly waves over and then starts hobbling his way towards her. Hello. Good morning. You're weird. Thank you. I think so. You're interesting. Why do you have two plates?
00:11:46
Speaker
This one was the potato. Claude was here and he started doing his constipated thing, he didn't know. When he gets scared he does his weird voice and it sounds like he's going to shit himself. And then he left and gave me his eggs and his potato. So you can get your own plate, because I'm having both of these and I'm a bit hungry. How she says that, a spectral hand appears in front of the phonic. We had him even moving really.
00:12:06
Speaker
flies off, grabs a plate of eggs and potatoes and brings it back to the table and puts it in front of him. When the spectral hand flies off the hand, you hear a, oh, oh, oh, oh my, oh, oh, okay, okay, I guess you're taking that, okay, as the plate gets taken out of the kitchen and she's kind of looking up, just like, oh my god, I've read about that, that spill. Yes, yes, main champ.
00:12:28
Speaker
Yes, I've seen you have a book yourself, so you must be quite familiar with spells like that. No, I know about them, but I can't use them. Do you have a book? No, no, no. I do have a book, but not for that particular, not for that particular spell. It's weird to explain, I just kind of know. You just know what, like, in your memory. Because I have to remember all the things and the things I've got to do to, I'd like to
00:12:59
Speaker
quite good with that and I once did have a lightning bolt that was that was tricky that the you don't seem to have a book or anything no no mines my mine is more more from my gut
00:13:13
Speaker
And then you cast spells. Sorry, I don't know what's about here. The best way I envision the spell and then stuff happens. So picture this, for example. I can just think of that over there and he points to probably the candle or not and he just nods and it lights up. And then every candle in the room just quick nod at, they all light up.
00:13:36
Speaker
And Tally's just beyond amazed at this. I couldn't do that, but it takes me about a minute. I've got to read a section of text and then I've got a semantic bit to do. You didn't even have to do anything. You just lit them all. And the husband comes out and looks round. He looks back. I told you I wasn't at the candles yet! And goes off into the kitchen.
00:14:02
Speaker
I've had to make them. Not a warlock, I have no pact with anybody. I know of warlocks myself. Do you? Yes, yes. You have to learn, you have to memorise, you have to study. Whereas you're the only type of magic caster that has to do that. It's the hardest way to learn. I'm very impressed. Thank you. I've been working at it for quite some time, you know. My dad used to be a great wizard back when he was alive.
00:14:30
Speaker
But he got old and you know how it is. But it's his book. It's his book that I have and so a lot of the spells, he got all the way up. Some of them I've read through them. He's even gone and she's going to reach into a book.
00:14:50
Speaker
incredibly at all the knowledge that could be in there. He turns to one more page and you see just almost illegible scribbles, but very clearly in capitals, written at the top, are four letters. W-I-S-H, written at the top, and then it just scribbles underneath it. If Ollie's going to try and sneak a peek at that, he can smell the camera. Feel free, he's not going to hide it. Don't touch it! As he reaches out to it, this is Wish. This is what I want to learn, but
00:15:19
Speaker
I can't understand anything on this page it's supposed to be common but but nothing here seems to make sense and to be honest I've been looking at it for the last couple of days hoping to get Shader back but I can't understand any of it she shuts the book again and puts the back in her satchel so he's got everything in there all the all the spells
00:15:46
Speaker
all the spells, so I'm just working my way through it really. So, can I be blunt with you for a second? Of course. She's going to run that through potato and chews it down. Why are you with us? Because, I'm not being funny, we're kind of a dysfunctional, shitty family. And not even like a good way where you get my presents and stuff and money. Why bother?
00:16:13
Speaker
You seem to be jovial and happy and you've got a life here in this place that you're from. What interest do you have with a bunch of nobodies from... for all intents and purposes, a made-up place? To put it bluntly myself, you've already mentioned the key word there, family. I have not. I spent the last 15 years wandering around this place, all by myself, looking after myself,
00:16:44
Speaker
Sometimes it just helps to have companionship. That makes sense. If I may be blunt as well, your magic itself, you seem to be almost hesitant of it. I don't know what's going to happen half the time, but I just hope I do the right thing at the right place. I figure out sometimes what if I hit drag going back ahead with a fireball, he's going to flip out.
00:17:21
Speaker
What did you ask? I may not know much of your learned ops of magic, but I'm more than willing to help if you ever need anything. I mean, magic is not something you have to be afraid of. It is dangerous when done wrong, definitely. Because you blew up, didn't you before in the fight?
00:17:49
Speaker
I've blown up before, as well as my apologies. But no, it's not always something to be feared, but something that can be revered. While death doesn't have to be necessarily permanent, sometimes it is best to leave it like that. She's nodding at this point and looks away from me at the idea of death not being permanent. No, I know. But just sometimes I wish that
00:18:17
Speaker
We could keep the people we call family. There may be a way, but other ways than which wishes an incredibly difficult spell to learn to cast and has grave consequences. There are other ways. Will you tell me about them? Not now over breakfast, but... I'm more than happy to teach you. As much as I can.
00:18:45
Speaker
You know what, Folly? That's the nicest things anyone said to me this morning. Then don't know if that's a compliment or not, actually. Absolutely. That is. By the way, I love your backpack. It's good. You seem to have a lot of stuff in there. Maybe there'll be some good stuff in there for us as well. So, thank you. And then she's going to just finish up the last bite, start the two plates up, and then make her way out of the...
00:19:14
Speaker
Next, we've got a double whammy that two people appear at the same time. It's going to be Elphir and Drago. You're going to awake at the same time, Robin. I'm assuming because you're one of the last few up, you will have been the... You've seen the last episode the most tired and the most kind of... You don't have to run down, so I think you would have slept in slightly longer. Elphir, you would have been meditating anyway. Drago, I don't think slept much. I think alcohol-induced couple of hours, but you've kind of brought yourself up and you would have come down.
00:19:44
Speaker
kind of come out at the same time. So let's imagine then you've kind of come out and go to separate doors, elfie a couple of doors further down away from the entrance to Drago, you both kind of open the doors ready to come down for your breakfast and you see each other in the corridor. Good morning Drago. Elfie here. Sleep well?
00:20:09
Speaker
Yeah, I guess. I feel rested, at least. That's something. So Elph is then going to sort of, because during his meditation after his meditating for the amount of time he needed, he wouldn't have been studying that book on religion you gave me, trying to look up freestyle and all that kind of stuff. So if you ever want to give me any information, let me know. I will do.
00:20:29
Speaker
But that's the first time you've mentioned it since I gave you the book, just left away. So I'll be now looking up, based on the vision we've had, I'll be looking at things about 3-7 and all that kind of stuff. Just trying, because obviously the last time I looked at it, I was only looking at it, trying to see if there were any similarities to The Forgotten, to The Sword Coast. Now I'm looking on the stuff about
00:20:49
Speaker
thrace down and all that kind of stuff. No problem. So and that he will then sort of tuck it into a pouch or something that is at his side and then proceed downstairs acting nice and jovial for Friday. I'll follow downstairs. Okay so we're following down you do see Folly sat at the table now with three plates. Good morning Folly.
00:21:15
Speaker
Hey! How are you? Very well sir, yourself. Good, you didn't blow us up then? No, no, it's quite a knowledgeable evening for me. Yeah? Yes, yes, there's certain things that I must share with you all, but I feel it may be best on... Hold on two seconds before you do this. Erm... Good morning Drago! Erm, ale, it's an ale. Hello? You okay? An ale. An ale? Yes. An ale? Yes.
00:21:45
Speaker
Are you sure? Did I stop her? You did not. And she goes and touches you now, pops at the table, but is giving you a bit of a slight eye. Thank you. A bit of a stink eye. She knows, like, hmm.
00:22:02
Speaker
You know, you do you, but you know. Alfie will sit down, and obviously, as she leaves, a plate of breakfast would be lovely if you get a moment, thank you. Of course, and she goes back and quickly brings through the same breakfast that you had before, I bought eggs and a fried potato. There seems to be quite a lot of it, obviously, and it gets brought out quite quickly to you both, and Folly, you've already got a plate as well. I trust these eggs were blessed in the Clay Peak fashion.
00:22:27
Speaker
And she looks a little questionably at you and just says, they came from chickens. Yeah, that's what we do. And then she walks off. It's all right. I'll say it's just, you know, he's half of that. It's exactly what the reaction he was expecting. And he sits down. He did very well yesterday, Folly. No, I thought you did quite good yourself there, sir. Well, yeah, it still stings a little. But your fist or the dragon's face? Well,
00:22:53
Speaker
My face is fine. I'm talking about the light coming from my hands. Oh, yes. Sunbeam. I know that spell. I've heard of that spell. I've not been quite lucky enough to get the details on it yet, but very, very powerful spell. You did well to cast it. Yeah, not normally what I can cast. What do you normally cast? I'm not. I don't cast spells. I can focus through my training. I focus my own
00:23:24
Speaker
I suppose life energy you could call it and I'm able to manipulate certain things like the shadows and that kind of stuff to create effects but it's certainly not magic as you would call it. Sounds like dark magic to me. No, no it's about...
00:23:37
Speaker
The way I've been trained is we have a life force within all of us. You have a life force, Drago has a life force. We all have a life force within us and within that I tap into that life force and that energy that we all have and you can use that to then manipulate and mine appears to be focused upon the shadows. Fascinating. I've not heard of this. In episode one, Medi-chlorians.
00:24:06
Speaker
simultaneously. Firstly, Robin, you're going to appear in the staircase coming down and at the same time, Tally's going to also step in. Are we having a bit of a... Good morning, Tally. Morning. How are you doing? Better. How are you? Yeah, I'm all right, thanks. I'm all right. Shall I grab Claude? It seems to be like a big old team meeting. Oh yeah, I had no... Yes. Shall I see if I can go find him?
00:24:31
Speaker
you did didn't you find him last time it wasn't very pleasant you woke him up last time and oh no he's already awake don't worry okay I'm not making that mistake again I'm never not
00:24:43
Speaker
Anyway, and she's going to turn around and quickly pop out to see if she can find Claude as Robin appears in the doorway of the stairs from the rooms. Okay, I come into the corridor and I guess I go straight downstairs. I'm sorry, I had you kind of at the door of the pub downstairs, like you'd already walked down the corridor. Okay, I will walk over and I will
00:25:07
Speaker
go to the bar first and I'll say, what's the breakfast options in this establishment? Eggs and potato. Good man. I'll have both. Yes, they come together and if you've reached that limit, go to your plate a bit and pass that over. If you'd like anything else, do let me know. My party, it's got some cuppery well on the side as well for you. No continental buffet. I want my croissants.
00:25:30
Speaker
There's no one else in here as you look around. There's just a number of your comrades sat around at the middle table having a discussion at the moment as you approach. Good evening Folly and the rest of you. Your room smelled wonderfully self-hearing yesterday. I trust it went well. Very well.
00:25:49
Speaker
Well, if you stepped into the corridor, then it's kind of hard to make. I think it's a blessing he didn't blow us up. No offence, Folly. I need to level something with you now. What happened on the battlefield was an isolated incident because I was rushed, okay? I had my time last night and it was fine. It was just a little bit premature, that's all. You often have that problem being premature. I was under a lot of pressure.
00:26:15
Speaker
Do you not perform well under pressure? It happens to every man at some point, Folly, don't worry. I'm no man, I'm no man. It never happened to me. I am legendary in those endeavors.
00:26:41
Speaker
So I imagine I had a little time because I had all of that conversation so I would have sprinted.
00:26:46
Speaker
All the way to the academy, to the, my quarters, to a space I know is private, to a space I know is isolated from my time training in the academy. You would have gone straight through the academy front doors, douche and seen a number of the wounded, currently still being tended to, many of them still asleep, and walk up a number of stairs and take a corridor off to the right which opens up to another set of doors which when open enter into a large kind of training military style courtyard area which is grasped over.
00:27:14
Speaker
The building that you've entered is a large ground building, the buildings behind become smaller and lower. It's about two storeys and they kind of match up around this kind of training ground in the middle. You know straight ahead and off to the right is another door which enters into a series of dormitories, one of which is yours. So you would make your way across that, around the edge of the training ground, not to walk on it especially because you know you're not supposed to, around the edge of it, into the door.
00:27:35
Speaker
Up one flat stairs to two rooms on the left. Okay. And you've entered into it. Getting into the room, I would have put a whole furniture, I could barricade against the door, clear a space, and get out my map of Aerith, lay across the bed, reach into my bag, and take out a bunch of... ritual... a bunch of the coins I used to enact...
00:28:05
Speaker
performed the rituals last night, lay it on the bed as an offering, and you're gonna have the direct message sent to the master. Okay. Possible. Going to say, I don't understand. Apparently there was a vision. Everyone heard your name. I don't know what to do about that.
00:28:32
Speaker
this is a direct cast of a strong spell called Divination. I ask a single question concerning a specific event. You have to give a truthful reply. It could be a short phrase, a cryptic rhythm, or an omen. And that's it. If I ask anything else, it's like diminishing returns. So the first question is like a direct communication. So just remind me of the question one more time, please. I don't know what to do with the knowledge that everyone has had a shared vision in which
00:29:00
Speaker
The master was named specifically. Okay, and this is directed to the master. Yeah. You hear a response in your head, a low rumble at first as it builds slightly until it almost sounds like static in your ears, both your ears, blocking off your sense of hearing and a slow haze begins to fall over your eyes as it slowly blocks off your ability to see.
00:29:24
Speaker
You don't feel a change of place or mood or position. You're still in control of your body. You still are aware of the room. You can feel the corners under your hand. You can feel the crumpled corners and burnt edges of the map as you hold it. You're still current. You're still present. But your sight and vision has disappeared for a second and you hear a voice say in your head, they are to know. They are to help.
00:29:49
Speaker
and then your sight returns and the static fades back and you return back to it and you feel a warmth in the coins under your hand.
00:29:59
Speaker
Okay, having known that I'll take off the amulet and use the amulet for today put it on the map in like a Ouija board fashion Okay, so it's currently placed on bleak mode. Okay, and then ask where next Okay, and again a similar thing happens You get this ring in your ears which blocks off your sight and video your sight and you're hearing for a second You can hear whispers in your head this time. You can't discern any particular words, but you feel
00:30:27
Speaker
something take a hold of this amulet which starts to get warmer and warmer and warmer under your hand and you feel a sense of almost a vibration taking place in the amulet as you feel it shift slightly to the west and then to the south and as your vision returns the feeling fades, you lift your hands up and you notice the amulet is directly over the town of Evershire.
00:30:51
Speaker
I quickly put back on the amulet, hide everything, rearrange the room as it was, casually stroll out, whistling, trying not to draw attention to myself, and head back into the centre of town. Okay, Tali is walked up towards the cemetery, I'm in front of the academy, kind of looking around, she's catching bits of conversation and sees you and kind of waves over to you.
00:31:11
Speaker
Claude. Hello. Hello again. Um, listen, everyone's kind of having a bit of a team powwow thing. Okay. I just, I just said I'd go grab you. Okay. Do you want to come back?
00:31:27
Speaker
at the garrison behind me. That's an impressive looking building. I haven't been to all the rooms yet. Have you been to that one? Yeah. To that one. Okay. To that one. It's going to take some time. Not that one. Right. That's a toilet. Can we go? That's nice. You'd like that. That's where the horses are kept. Oh nice. And where we enchant things. Yeah. That's where we heal people. Now she's genuinely interested. That's where we make the swords. That's where we make the swords. I hope you can get a track of this, you know.
00:31:59
Speaker
All right. They're in the other rooms you've been to. But they're on the side. Okay. What have they? Do you want to come and have a look? No, not really. Can you come and have a look? Have a look. Have a look. Have a look. Have a look. Right, what a wanted room now. Well played. Well played. Keep going, just going to let you go. Right, and you start walking along the Muddy Park and you do notice that some
00:32:20
Speaker
Work has been taking place over that day and night that you've had. There's been some kind of shift pattern put in place that you would have overheard through the academy as well. And the areas are starting to be cleared out. They've basically demolished the rest of the scarred camp that's outside. And the work you knew was supposed to take place much sooner within Bligmore to place the scarred has started to take place already. They've started knocking down some of the more desolate buildings to the south of Bligmore where they are making room to build a specially made scarred
00:32:48
Speaker
camp, if you will, but out of an actual building within the city walls to make sure this doesn't happen again, which you knew had been in the talks for years, and it needed, and now it's happening the day after they've had to give it to you together. And Tali's kind of ahead, um, talking a little bit, she's probably saying some stuff about Folly, and he said he just made all the candles light up at the same time, and then he blew them away again. It's really interesting. Did you just show him your book? Yeah, I did. I had a quick look at it because I wanted to ask him if he knew how to do a certain spell, but he doesn't wish
00:33:19
Speaker
Do you know it? I know. It's a very powerful spell. I want to know how to use it. Me too. Great. Well, if you're learning anything, let me know. Let's work together on it. Okay. I think it will help bring shade art back. That's what I want. Me too. They've helped me a lot.
00:33:45
Speaker
And we get you home, we get Shaidar home too. He's got an island where he's got lots of animals that need feeding and they're not getting fed without him. No, I mean there's other people there called, it's not just him. They're getting fed, it's okay. He told me once, he had lots of, that's why I thought Dragha was his pet.

Strategies Against the Undead

00:34:08
Speaker
Because he said he had lots of animals.
00:34:10
Speaker
Like, I'm happy in knowing that there's other people feeding those animals. Tell me if it... I assume. I don't know. Anyway, and she kind of ends up in an awkward conversation and walks, opens the door of the bronze cask, and you can see now pretty much everyone there. Tyler takes a seat next to Robin, between Robin and Althea, and there's another seat between Folly and Draga that's also available for you. We have everyone together. What have you guys been talking about whilst they've just gone outside then?
00:34:39
Speaker
I think there's probably been a very small talky conversation, no one really properly addressing what's going on.
00:34:51
Speaker
chatting about things like, oh, you know, we need to make sure we get some supplies, and if we need to travel, we need to look at, like, health has been mentioned, we need to get better arms and armour, and that, because we can just generally, perhaps, be better prepared for our forthcoming journey than we have, especially because we've got the Hailstorm Surge Academy nearby.
00:35:09
Speaker
that maybe they will have things like, you know, armour that's a bit stronger and perhaps weapons that will be more reliable for us and that kind of stuff. That's what he's been generally chatting to Robin about. Okay. Maybe making a few jokes on Elvis, so I'm trying to understand. I would have spoken to Folly about the smells that were coming from the room, getting him to explain them. Every time he says something, I don't understand just going,
00:35:39
Speaker
Right, and you're looking to achieve what? And he'd probably give some sort of batshit mental bouncer back and just be, okay, I have no idea what to say. Amazing, lovely. And then you see the doors open of the tavern and Tali steps through with Claude rather menacingly in terms of size behind as they both walk in and sit down and join the conversation. Right, so...
00:36:05
Speaker
Morning. Hello. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning all. I mean, do we discuss the vision we've had? Do we discuss where we go next? I know it's early, but perhaps there's no time like the present. That vision made no sense to me whatsoever. Did it make sense to anyone here? Partly. Yeah.
00:36:26
Speaker
It's not the first time I've seen that hanging man. Well, it's not the first time any of us have seen the hanging man. We've seen him... It's the first time I've seen this hanging man. Well, he played us for a while. Well, not played, but he kept appearing and I don't think we can't realise his significance until now. Here's the reason we're here. Right. We're still just a vision at the end of the day.
00:36:45
Speaker
But I mean it's things like it said like that that chenna was the beginning it said that that throw you stand it up throw you stand here was he wants to speak to us he's the keeper of our passage home he's weak. What was chenna? So chenna is a there was a a village on the sword coast
00:37:07
Speaker
Over a year ago now, it was a tax and massacre. I was stationed in... in... in... Bald's Gate. But in Bald's Gate at the time and, um, there was a situation there. I travelled with, um, the lord that was there at the time and I met up with, um, Shader and his mentor and we... it was a massacre. The people had been butchered. It had been brutal. The place was on fire and...
00:37:35
Speaker
It was chaos. We rescued people from the burning building and that was Cenar. Cenar had seen more. And he said there were things and I know his mentor had seen more. But we never know. We don't know who did it. Maybe it's worth asking the commander of the group here where the next blight is likely to happen.
00:38:05
Speaker
I mean, there is a blight already happening just down the road. Just where the undead have come from. Is that one of the rifts? There might be a rift in the middle of it. Because I know the vision said there were two. One.
00:38:21
Speaker
that we knew of and one that we didn't. Well, we closed one rift before, I can't see it being much trouble closing another one. This rift is surrounded by miles and miles and miles of the deadies. And you said it was bigger as well, someone said... It's about the size of Sleekard, yeah. It's big. Here's the thing that I've noticed from inspecting the weapons on the field and whatnot. These people are not
00:38:47
Speaker
prepare or garrison to defend against a threat larger than the one that we received the other day. Those tongued creatures are but a trifle compared to some of the things that we have fought. If they attack again
00:39:01
Speaker
There's no guarantee that this city will hold on. Well, we have fought before and held before. But do your people, does the health on such use lots of magical weapons? What Robin is trying to say is those creatures were simple sort of...
00:39:18
Speaker
a very weak unliving as far as the undead that we've ever seen before, but there are far more powerful creatures that would take magical weapons to kill. Well, when I was growing up we were now made to study battlefields, it allowed me to, it allowed me to become the man I am today. My point is that the more I think about the attack it felt more like a
00:39:43
Speaker
preliminary checking of the defences. It seems that everything made through on this was disposable. Well, the hailstorm surge weapon that you think that I understand that you're asking if we have is the Academy. So you wield magic? The Academy is for extremely talented magical arts.
00:40:08
Speaker
as well? I don't know. I'm not allowed to go in all the rooms. Me and Ty are talking about it. I've been to at least only about 20 of the rooms. You explain them all in very much lots of detail. I'm sure none of it we need to be hearing here again. Absolutely not. Claude, we are the magical force that is being built. It seems to me, Claude, that the question I would ask the Halston Academy, maybe you can show some light on this, I look at Claude
00:40:40
Speaker
What you might be able to shed light on is how can the situations are geared towards stopping the blight spreading rather than closing it? Well, to close it, presumably you've got to get near where it's open. Have people tried? Yeah. And not succeeded? Obviously. Isn't that what your order was made for? Yeah. We're trying to get closer to it.
00:41:06
Speaker
But it's big. We're talking it could even be as big as the Sword Coast. There's a lot of land to cover when every bit of that land is filled with deaddies. What's the next plan after this battle from the Hillstorm? Well, I don't know what the commanders are going to do.
00:41:28
Speaker
We're going to hold the front and continue to try and move into the blighted lands. Handily enough, our court did say she can't find you guys. And she does at this point. The door's open. Hello. I'm your plot point. Nice to meet you, Nick. Does she have a glowing plot symbol above her head? She walks in. Ah, good. Good to see you're all well rested. She walks in and just stands. I won't stay for long, but how are we all? Out rested.
00:42:00
Speaker
can do and it is indeed the least we can do you have real good ale on offer here thank you you have real good skills with that sword young dragonborn and I appreciate having you here and hands over to the group 300 gold pieces which she hands are puts on the table that should cover some of the hardship you went through last night so wait and I'll put 50 more down thank you for saving my friends it's very kind of you Claude now
00:42:36
Speaker
But I'm very generous of you, Drago. That is indeed very generous. Drago, is that your name? I will indeed take that and hand it back to the scar those who need it will receive it. Thank you.
00:42:50
Speaker
I don't think a reward in monetary terms is necessary. Well, then please allow me to help in some way. She picks up the money and tosses back Claude's 50 gold to him. How else may I repay you then? I think it's... I think it's more of a case of what can we do for you more than what can you do for us. We need to close the rift. Right, and...
00:43:15
Speaker
I was trying to explain the size of the blight to the beast. I don't think my words succeeded in describing how big a job it is. Wouldn't be the first time, Claude, but don't worry about it. I mean, I'm sure it's not so simple as you've pointed it in a direction, us getting some weapons and walking in there and clothing it. I wish it was that simple, I think. I'd imagine you would have done that already. 100%. We would have had forces. Lucian would have let them himself, probably, gone into the core, the very centre of this rift and...
00:43:45
Speaker
What's your plan now? Our plan is to hold at Vala guard. Our job is not to close the cup this portal. On the eastern front our job is to hold and wait as Lucian Blightbend continues to push from the west with the obsidianis, with all his forces, with all the hailstorm academy acolytes that have finished their training. That is the majority of our force. You have to understand
00:44:08
Speaker
We spent years to take back Clearguard. We took years to take back the Respiritmont Redown on the Western Front. And now we have, for the first time ever, the Blight centred between two forces of good. We are on the Eastern side. Shit. We are on the Western side. Lucian Blightbane is on the Eastern side and he is pushing in. We've held them back for now and wave upon wave of fallen upon our sleep guardian swords.
00:44:35
Speaker
and slowly, piece by piece of land, island by island, we are pushing back into the mainland of Sleetgard. We have them now, the next stage is, indeed, to find a way to close this rift. I just want to pick up on something you said there, because it strikes me as curious. You said that the train dacalites go to the front lines with respect.
00:45:01
Speaker
equipment go with them? Yes. How do you keep this town safe? How do you keep? With very limited resources, traveller, we have to give as much as we can to the front. We cannot afford to lose our footing at Spirit Monbrido and Clearguard again. We've lost it once before and if it wasn't for Lucian and the Obsidianus we would have lost it. We never would have got it again.
00:45:28
Speaker
Your defences have been pretty much eviscerated in a very good part. Absolutely. If they come to us again, we will fall. I understand that. The reason it came as a shock is that for now, wave upon wave have hit Falagard, which is on the very front, on the eastern front. You have to understand with these undead, they don't attack with much tactics. They attack the nearest force of living that they see.
00:45:56
Speaker
which for the longest time has been Valor Guard, and that's where a lot of our resources have gone. That's why Commander Garmir, whom you met yesterday, his job is too short, those defences, and he skirts along the edges of that eastern front, securing our borders. Which pose is the most curious question? If they normally attack where you were strongest, why did they attack here? This is the question.
00:46:20
Speaker
I do not know what's changed. Well, if they know that this is the source of what is helping stop them, it would make sense over his control of them to destroy the Academy. Do you have ships? Navy. And how do we know it's one person controlling them? We don't know it's one person, and in terms of ships, we have a navy. Most of it is stationed away from the cold gulf to the north. All of it is in Goldview, which is around that central
00:46:46
Speaker
of all the other islands around that area. If you can't ensure the people in this town are safe, I would suggest evacuation. And I know that sounds drastic, but one more strike here and this city will fall. We've sent word to King Sleekard II, King Leopold Sleekard II, and we're awaiting his decision on what to do, and it is ultimately his decision because we need his land. Forgive me, I didn't think that the islands here were governed by a single member.
00:47:16
Speaker
of Fleetguard is, and the issue is I would happily leave this accursed town.
00:47:22
Speaker
My question then would be, where do we go? I can't just jump into High Haven or Goldsview and take a district off them. They have to, okay. Yes, we are separate. We have our own rules. We follow the hailstorm surge. We do not follow a single source of power, but we need their okay for us to take land. Fair enough. Which is part of the problem we have. So why would you suggest that we end up going next then? If we were to help your cause. We need to find a way to close that rift.
00:47:51
Speaker
We all see the vision before that battle. Have you ever heard of the Onyx Reaver? Onyx, no. Onyx Reaver is nothing I've ever heard of before. Because I know our vision told us to see Kel's standing ever higher and find the Onyx Reaver. Her eyebrows raise at that and she shakes her head in almost disbelief. Just to clarify,
00:48:18
Speaker
Elphir, you had a vision that told you to find Kelsun in Evershire. Yes, I believe, Mike. We all had that vision. Kelsun. Kels... yeah. Kelsun. Kelsun. You need to find...
00:48:37
Speaker
I'm sorry, is he mispronouncing it? No, madam. It's from this magical kingdom. No, I know they are not from here, but it just surprises me that you need to find that prick. That's all I'm saying. It's what? No, no, okay. I understand. It's what Thrace Dan told us to find. Whoever speaks to you, to be honest,
00:49:07
Speaker
I'll keep it harsh. Don't use that name. Calstan? Freestan. Why? Don't use that name too light. It's part of the Order of Whisperers and it's not supposed to be... Oh, we meant to find the Order of Whisperers. We were told to find them. I'd recommend doing it. She moves in and sits down then. I recommend doing that rather quietly. I don't know much about them. My knowledge of the illegal religions is limited.
00:49:33
Speaker
I recommend not. Illegal? Yes. How so? We have three religions in Aerith. Since the Unmending religion was banned and then recently three religions were allowed back into the realm. The Order of Whisperers is one of those religions that they see as a betrayer religion which has been banned and is illegal. What are the other two?
00:49:57
Speaker
Oh no, the three religions that are allowed, and that wasn't one of them. The first one is the faith of Vatinis. The next one is Alido, which is the god of war, and also Tiriani, the god of justice, joy and knowledge. They're the three that we're allowed to follow in this realm that have very large followings, and there are many, many, many that are classed as illegal. You have to understand, before the Unmending, there were thousands of religions. They blamed the number of these religions on
00:50:26
Speaker
the Faith of Mixawas and how they started to form a group which tried to raise a demon king. It failed and brought about something we refer to as the Great Flame which ended the lives of many of our greatest soldiers. But that was some years ago. If you need the Order of Whisperers, I recommend doing it quietly. I can't help you with where to look. Word is, there is no temple, there is no book.
00:50:57
Speaker
You just need to know the right people. They have these phrases they use. I don't know what they are, but if you say the right phrase, that's all I know. But maybe finding this girlson who you don't like is our first book call, because we were told there are two risks. Maybe. But if we don't know where this girlson is... He's in Edershire. He's in Edershire, which is just south of here.
00:51:20
Speaker
He's just a bit of a dick. Why? Well, we went to school together, and he was a bastard then, and he's a bastard now. Maybe you just fancied you or something. Guys could be pretty strange when we're the opposite sex. Well, you try explaining that to him. But maybe that's our first dressing, because if we need to seal these two rifts, then maybe finding this kelstan and the onyx reaver will
00:51:49
Speaker
be our first port of call. I mean, good luck. Chatting to him is a dick. I had a rumor that maybe we should look at Ebershire too.
00:52:08
Speaker
people. Can I do an insight check? Yes, you can please. Can you do either a persuasion or a deception? You choose, don't tell me, in response to it please. What was your... Oh, you got an actual one? An actual one. Okay, so... I got...
00:52:30
Speaker
What's your fucking name? 23. I've got a 23 on my internet, so I can tell whether he's lying or not. He was lying to you. Wait, you know, what did you, what were you on? I said, I heard a rumor we should go to Emma Shire. And he said, from people. He did not hear it from people's. Yeah. At all. 100% did not hear it from people's, okay? Um, I think we need to be honest with ourselves and each other. Okay, tried a teddy bear last night.
00:52:55
Speaker
Uh, we... Can I do it if you like? 17. If he's being honest, he doesn't need to roll anything. Unless he's being deceptively. Interesting. I mean, it was not as it sounds. I'm not, we're not here to judge. But the point is... I mean, there is, ugh, every shire, right?
00:53:23
Speaker
Now if we're to travel to Evershark, obviously we are...
00:53:29
Speaker
I feel like perhaps, is there anything that you can give us? Is there arms? It's not far.

Quest to Evershire

00:53:34
Speaker
Yeah, but if we need to travel from there somewhere else, we may not return here for a while. Is there things like, in our world, people created leather armors that were perhaps stronger than normal, weapons that were perhaps, if not, burning in flame, but perhaps more magical than they could be, that could help us in our travels? I know you can't, we don't want your money. Is there any chance you could give us things like arms and armor that could help us?
00:53:58
Speaker
Yes, there is, but unfortunately it's not in Bleakmoor. It's in Edershire, but what I can do, I'm sending a couple of folk down, just regular folk from the town here, with some supplies, just some
00:54:14
Speaker
just some supplies from the academy really that I needed down in Evershire. What you can do though when that is delivered, you can speak to some of the blacksmiths there, tell them I've sent you and they can IOU it to me and you can talk to some of them about some of the magical armour they've got. Maybe you could save your people and we'll take those down there. If we're going that way anyways, instead of putting your own people at risk, maybe we take it instead.
00:54:39
Speaker
I would never want to put that upon you as a group if you were willing. It seems easier for us as experienced travellers to do this and know the risks rather than you sending your own people and them not being prepared. Okay, do you know how to handle a cart? Yes. We've ridden and had carts before. Well that's incredibly kind of you to do, all of you. I'll give you the cart, I'll be prepared within the hour
00:55:07
Speaker
And you can head off. Claude looks over and gives you a nod. And... No, I never got your name. Folly! Folly. Finger bang. Fizzle bang. Fizzle bang. My apologies. The ninth! I've seen you before.
00:55:24
Speaker
You know the way, both of you, know the way to Evershire? Yes. Through the trees, through the forest? Yes. It's quite a clear path, you should be fine. In terms of the danger that might approach you, Limited, you're moving more inland towards the centre of Seligard, away from the Blight. Are there risks of
00:55:46
Speaker
Okay, but I was talking about, I don't know, it has lawlessness, is there lawlessness and that kind of stuff, or should we be relatively safe? Since the Black people have taken it upon themselves to
00:55:59
Speaker
follow a law that they might be worthy. We have that problem more to the south near Blackmouth where an actual rebellion is brewing. Nonetheless, around these parts you should be safe for now. I do appreciate you taking this down there. In terms of Elthea that you spoke of gathering supplies of stronger equipment, stronger magical properties, speak to Dee Copperkittle.
00:56:26
Speaker
at the hammer and brass plate. They're the best blacksmith in town and she's quite talented and if anyone will have any kind of leather or metallic gear that might be useful to you or that might imbue any special stock properties, you should be the person. Especially if our objective is to help you end this bite.
00:56:46
Speaker
You know, I don't mean to talk down. I'm sure you must have heroes or people who have the skill of arms that we do, obviously elsewhere. I mean, if we can do it, we can. It's just, I've always been taught to be as prepared as we can. And in that, there's a very good reason why you are still alive. I'm sure your preparedness is...
00:57:05
Speaker
Captain, if I may make a suggestion, of course, take that gold, exchange it for all the silver that you can, melt that silver down and form it into arrowheads.
00:57:17
Speaker
There are far worse things that come through the blight that your archers would be much better to equipped if they were using silver on their arrows rather than steel. I agree. Take all the gold you can, trade it in for silver and melt that silver down. Gold won't save you in this fight, silver might. We will try our best and... Unless you could pay them off with gold. The undead? Maybe. I don't know if they'll accept that, Drago. Maybe they just need some gold.
00:57:45
Speaker
Maybe that's it. I wish I was so simple. I like Robin's idea, madam. Put the 50 gold back out on the table. OK. I don't care about money. I care about less dead coming back. Your majors are talented. I saw that first hand. We all did. But...
00:58:04
Speaker
They should be used as a last guard. Those fireballs are just as likely to burn through your own defenses as they are the undead. Your archers are your best means of defending you. You should equip them accordingly. Would be my advice to you. Thank you, Rowan. We will take your advice overboard. She picks up the money and makes a note down on a note that she pulls out of what you've said and puts it away. Now, Kelsan on a tone shifts slightly.
00:58:32
Speaker
What you should know about Kelsan, he runs a store. It's Kelsan's cartographic wonders, of course, it has its own fucking name in it. He's a cartographer by trade. And... So is Drago! He will be a testimier! Well, there's one thing I've learned about Drago, is that at least he doesn't lie profusely to friends of his and also consistently
00:58:59
Speaker
I just hate him. Nonetheless. You'll find him near the centre of time. If you find the statue of King Sleepguard, you've gone too far. He's there. If you need to speak to him, talk away. But just bear in mind, he will sometimes lead you down a merry path. Just... don't take him at face value. Draugr is good at making sure people tell us the truth.
00:59:27
Speaker
true I will say this though his bloodline is useful oh god don't tell folly that he'll be getting his blood don't take his blood he will kill you and he is not one of don't drain his fluids you're at that you're at that level as well don't I'm making no promises he is not
00:59:58
Speaker
though there are features which may seem similar to you, Elphir. He is of another place. He is of another creed. I'm sure he won't shut up about what he is, but I'll leave that for you to discuss with him. It's not my news to give. And with that she stands, says, with the greatest respect to the six of you,
01:00:25
Speaker
I do hope I never see you again on the front line, and I do hope that, with your help, we free ourselves of this undead blight. I hope the next time we all do meet is in Goldview, over a massive feast celebrating the heroes of Sleetguard, and she's referring to you all as that. Which will be everybody.
01:00:49
Speaker
I feel that everybody might not still be with us in the end. I feel this has to get worse before it gets better, but that's just the hunch of an old soldier. There's honor in death. And there's honor in life.
01:01:06
Speaker
I bid you farewell, and she stands up. I wish to leave. Do the awkward curtsy. Yeah. I've been right back. Look up. Everyone. Call it like a bit weird. Call it where you're going. I'm just going to run after Madam Arkward. And you've got to catch her up just outside the doors of the tavern. That's the door she had called. What is it? I didn't want to say. While we were in Clay Peak, a member of our order. Well, here is his tabard. He's no longer of our order.
01:01:34
Speaker
A man was drunk and deserting and spreading nasty lies about the academy. Yes, I knew of him. Matalos was his name. He was an old acquaintance of our order here. He became disillusioned. I have a feeling that he spent too much time near the blight and it started to affect his brain.
01:02:02
Speaker
His body was fine, but his thoughts were corrupted. Thank you for returning his tabano, repair it, and we'll be sent to the next acolyte. Thanks. If you need me to take his head, I'm very good at that. Let's focus with Evershire for now. Please keep an eye on Kelsun. You might not have spent much time with him directly, but I'm sure you know of what he's like. Just... he will lie.

Hi everyone, this is a special and really quick shoutout to our main man Danny who plays Claude. He's set up his own Etsy page and it's called, funnily enough, Crafts by Claude. He's currently hand making and selling personalized initiative trackers. Each comes with a logo of the character or creature type because you can also have them made for baddies as well.

and they can be personalised to include specific character names or indeed nicknames if you want them. But wait, I'll exclaim whether I put these awesome trackers made by the world's single nicest person. Luckily they fit perfectly on your DM screen or in my case my laptop screen and we've all been there in the heat of a massive important battle and you've kind of lost track a little bit about whose turn it is and the players are all up in your face about who's going next. These are perfect just so everyone knows very clearly who's going in what order. They're super easy to move around to set up
