Escaping Reality Through D&D
00:00:00
Speaker
Let's use D&D and escape into a world of nothingness. We haven't got to think about real life problems. So, Seth's first job is to be redundant and... God damn it, I want to escape!
00:00:14
Speaker
Well, I guess I'm going to sign on and maybe, you know, fucking depend on my wife for a bit and ah shit, I don't know. I miss that voice. No, I don't. I'm going to play this one right here. Listening to some of the episodes, it's like, oh yeah, Seth used to talk.
00:00:30
Speaker
Doing a great job with it. Like, it's such a different layer of a character. It's like Callum, but on purpose. Yeah. Seth, stop speaking.
00:00:41
Speaker
Best day of my life. Oh, that's recorded. That little camera was recorded.
Welcome to Fellowship of the Tabletop
00:01:14
Speaker
Hello everyone and welcome to this week's episode of the Fellowship of the Tabletop, Belem Draconis. We are live play 2024 5e D&D podcast set in the magical home-brewed world of Aerith in the kingdom of Drallach.
Meet the Characters
00:01:28
Speaker
And joining you for this week's episode, we have the apple pie-loving edgelord Callum, who plays the war-forged Atifus Alpha. Oh, crumbly. We've got Poovah, who plays the human cleric Emron.
00:01:40
Speaker
Oasis went away. Worst day me life. so
00:01:48
Speaker
Ian, who plays the tiefling sorcerer Nyx Corral. Hello. We've got Will, who plays the dragonborn druid Balvalkon. ah kopa call of perheka um ah I'm drinking it. My name is Mark and I have got my ichle-buckle of Prosecco and I am playing the Human Blade singer, Seth Farah Reaver. And by last but not means Lisa's our myth maker, the magician of mysteries, the marshal of the macabre, the what's-it cruncher and meat flap muncher.
00:02:12
Speaker
Meat flap muncher. Meat flap.
00:02:21
Speaker
What's the scrunchie meat flap? It's just the M's. I have them in sets of the letters and I'm like, last episode should have been M and I couldn't think of the M. i had i had meat flap and that's all I had.
00:02:33
Speaker
um And it wasn't good enough. and Guys, I worked at a really fucking good joke and it's been massively upstaged by meat flaps. It's fine. It's all right, mate. We're only going to Old Gal now for the opening. You'll be fine. You'll be okay. And but like in the bar high and speaking of meat flaps, Old Gal oh um fit finishes on the latrine and makes his way down a busy, dusty street. ah He...
00:03:02
Speaker
hoicks the orb up into his arm and then straightens his arm up into the and straightens his arm out so his the orb bounces off the pit of his um elbow and catches it in his hand right in front of his face. He stares closely into it and begins.
00:03:16
Speaker
Ooh, don't look back in anger. The group takes an improvised rest, and spiders form a divide between Nyx and Nithravar. It's ah some sort of conversation happening between Nyx and Nyx, and Nithravar's all like, you's got to get Seth...
00:03:34
Speaker
To open up, he's like chained and blindfolded and not in a kinky kind of way. Alpha
A Gift for Alpha
00:03:40
Speaker
gets absolutely fucking nothing from the water, sadly, and Baal decides to make some sort of glass vial, including a bespoke piece specifically for Alpha, reminiscent of Reigns' armor to give to him. The oasis starts to drain away, and so Selfer, uh, Selfer, Alpha, and Barr head out. Emron makes Alpha some bullets to stop him firing blanks.
00:04:01
Speaker
The group consider their next actions and decide to clip some serious fucking clop. Nyx's favorite letter, what do you think it is? You think it'd be the R? No, his first love be the C, and that's exactly what we see over the hill. It's a small industrial town, not very glamorous like the Cap. but tall city, they get closer it all seems really new, like some sort of newly built town. Nix
The Town's Abandonment
00:04:25
Speaker
takes the helm of the chatty chat and finds out that most of the people actually left this fucking place after the sky people arrived and the Upkriska pretty much headed south.
00:04:35
Speaker
Emron sells the whole Shadow Shield lie, and they get a few recommendations for some places to go, like, don't go to the Crimson Eel, because that's for locals, but go to the Coral Throne, because it's slightly better.
00:04:47
Speaker
Thank you, Tabaxi Person, who seems to notice Baal a little bit, like recognize him for something. Fuck knows what that could be. And they have a look to the harbor, but the only boat they seize, none of them recognize.
00:05:00
Speaker
It's because it's McBatters from the fucking Shadow Men Tales!
00:05:05
Speaker
Well done, Will, for rolling with it.
00:05:13
Speaker
I had a selection. I had a selection. That's what I went for. Oasis joke. I don't know who got it. and Probably no one. Because you stole my fucking joke about don't look back in anger. That's good. Very good. Take your time. then ah Are you going to de-inspiration him?
00:05:33
Speaker
oh No. Stripped. No.
00:05:38
Speaker
I said maybe. You emerge through this
The Harbor's State
00:05:41
Speaker
alleyway and you look out amongst the bay. The single ship... import everything else entirely abandoned. As you look eastward up the town, westward of the town. And it's where you're pretty much at the Western edge of this town. And it's just the the cliffs from that point onwards look out into the shore and there is nothing to be seen. No ships here other than this singular ship, the silence, this, this, this urban soundscape that should be full of so much activity
00:06:14
Speaker
The silence is penetrated by one industrious building to the left of you, the Sailmakers Guild. Inside you hear shouting, you hear the movement and the the hacking of saws on timber.
00:06:32
Speaker
And then it stops.
00:06:40
Speaker
And out walks, a gnome, looks around confused for a moment, spits on the ground,
Tensions at the Sailmakers Guild
00:06:48
Speaker
curses, and walks back in.
00:06:54
Speaker
What would you like to do
00:06:57
Speaker
Is the boat that's in the harbour that we know is Macbethner's boat, we don't know is Macbethner's boat, is it of Shadow Men style? No, but it's it's definitely of Eastern make, whether it's Dash Kal Rai or something a bit more primitive, perhaps.
00:07:12
Speaker
But Nix, you don't you really have to think hard to think about where you've seen shipwritory that looks like that. But you've you've definitely seen it, but it's not common. Yeah.
00:07:23
Speaker
ba This is entirely new stuff to your eyes. It's more how it's built. Like um if you picture what you're used to and it sort of um takes on European empire style architecture. Well, architecture is not appropriate for ships, but shipwritery. This, however, is much flatter ships. There isn't the giant hulls that you're used to. These more like bargy with these huge broad sails.
00:07:53
Speaker
Emron, if you wanted to try and think if you could locate this a little bit, feel free, but this isn't really your, this isn't your realm of craftsmanship. Oh, I was just wondering, like, I was just like, oh, if it's a design that M1 will recognize, then he'll recognize it. But he's not looking, he's not like, oh, that's a fancy boat. Look at the sides on Earth.
00:08:10
Speaker
No, that's not his thing. so It's definitely slightly familiar, though, like ah that that style and that type of craft, more so compared to the all of the other ships you've seen in Western Aerith, which is a bit more Caribbean-like in terms of ah our register what we're seeing.
00:08:32
Speaker
So everyone will sort of make a note of it. Well, not a busy port this at the moment then. ah guess we go in and
Guildmaster Sandrope's Concerns
00:08:41
Speaker
try and find Guildmaster Sandrope and go from there.
00:08:45
Speaker
Unless anyone else got any other ideas? No, that's savvy to me. I'm just a bit ah perplexed by how quiet everything is.
00:08:59
Speaker
Just would expect more of a, especially around a port. Especially with a docked ship. Is it docked or is it just out out of the... It's docked.
00:09:09
Speaker
Oh, it's docked, okay. ah do Do you feel like you want to poke around while someone's going inside? what do you think? No, I'm getting the sense that we should stick together. It'd be different if it was a hustle and bustle in place.
00:09:28
Speaker
don't know. We should be on our guard then, maybe. Yeah, exactly that. Did you notice Noreen giving a bit of a side eye?
00:09:40
Speaker
Giving who a side eye? Me. I just assume perhaps he recognised you as the champion. Or he might just be attracted to you. Well, I don't... Who isn't?
00:09:54
Speaker
Can't blame it, Tabaxi. ah There we go. yeah Is it worthwhile me... Hmm. Maybe changing myself somewhat.
00:10:07
Speaker
I don't know. I mean, it might be it might be using your fame to our advantages quite easily. It might open up some doors that might not. I don't know what do whatever else think. I think it's really quiet here. I think you'll be okay. It's just... Ah, some exchange going on. Okay.
00:10:24
Speaker
Let's go inside and try and see what's what's about. It sounds pretty busy in there, so don't get in the way. Who are you looking at? Because if you're looking at Nyx, Nyx will look behind him.
00:10:36
Speaker
He's looking at Nyx, sort of looks at Alpha. So Nyx just turns around. looks to out Looks to Seth, but not at Seth. He's looking for the closet. Just like, where's that fucking closet? Seth knowingly nods, like, don't worry about it.
00:10:51
Speaker
And draws the scimitar. Oh, shit. yeah I don't know if this is the sort of place where we go in ah hot, Seth. Seth knowingly nods and sheaths the scimitar. Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. cool It's going to be good folk. It's going to be awesome. You're going to see some amazing sail designs. like They asked for amber stone and crystals. like They know their shit.
00:11:18
Speaker
Seth's buzzing. He's going to kick the door open. Oh, God. no He's up for this. like Happy. He's excited, man. You just sold amber stone to him. He's all over it. You kick the door into this establishment and it's like, you knock the doors in and, and, uh,
00:11:38
Speaker
It's almost like a it's it's it's this huge warehouse and there are these two like offices either side as you walk in, but it really opens up to this big cavernous hangar where you just see this giant um spine of a ship's hull being crafted.
00:11:55
Speaker
And by that, I mean just like a single beam curved, which has got these these ribs that are coming out of it that are being sort of hand planed.
00:12:06
Speaker
to try really get the
Innovative Shipbuilding
00:12:08
Speaker
perfect angle on them. And you're seeing climbed all over it in like ropes and and iron and chains, just about three or four gnomes chiseling away at this.
00:12:19
Speaker
And also at the same time, just seems to be like, pasting on this this sort of liquidy, adhesive-like substance. Your eyes are then drawn to the center of this, where is this huge desk with a series of drawings and schematics. And there is this sort of grayish-blue skinned orc with these blonde mutton chops and this big, bushy, wild hair that's just got a gnome at the throat.
00:12:47
Speaker
And he just screams at this gnome in the throat, Do it again. You didn't get it right the first time. And he just launches this gnome into a series of just sort of stacked fabrics and barrels.
00:13:01
Speaker
And then this gnome, slightly salivating from the mouth, just looks around in this half-orc, slightly salivating in the mouth, just looks around at various forms, tries to find another way of just...
00:13:12
Speaker
unleashing this anger of not really having any reason to shout to anything. And he just walks over to this desk where there's this sort of winch, not really winch, what am thinking? and More of a a stand with this big brass bell on it and he just knocks the bell three times and you watch as all these gnomes who sort of scarper climb down and move into a room at the back.
00:13:37
Speaker
This is an open backed uh buildings by by that i mean there's no wall at the far end it just opens straight out to a dry dock onto the sea so it's almost like it's got the ramps where once the ship is built it would just uh shoot right off but this this ship is a couple of days old of ah a month's worth of craft this is this is something new that's being made this is my apple pie ah you're in that You're in the crust for sure. Nix has got a little woody right now. He's so happy. i see no To be on that point though, ah like Nix's eyes go anime wide for for what he's witnessing here.
00:14:16
Speaker
and Just trying to let this rage out of him for a second. You just watch as he just this half-orc just reaches into this desk drawer underneath this table all these schematics are laid out and pulls out this massive cigar, about eight-inch cigar, puts it between his lips, and it just goes over to a torch and lights it.
00:14:35
Speaker
Comes back in, and you just watch after a couple of tokes, that rage is gone. And this is a serene individual, incredibly calm. After a few moments, just marks you all stood in the doorway.
00:14:53
Speaker
Exhales. And there is this amber-like coloration to the smoke he exhales.
00:15:08
Speaker
Looking for a Guildmaster Sandro. Look how beautiful this place is. Oh, Just wow. Are you for real? Look at this. Look at this work of art that you go and go, what kind of wood are you using here? This is some beautiful craftsmanship. Which size the bow? Where's the stern on this bit?
00:15:26
Speaker
Come on. You got to look at this. Wow. Wow. Nyx. Yes. Oh, right. Sorry. ah You said low low key.
00:15:39
Speaker
I'll just be over here. Nick points over to the skeletal ship and he'll just start inspecting it.
00:15:47
Speaker
He very coolly just moves out from the back end of this table and perches. Arms folded. Your side of the table.
00:15:58
Speaker
I'm the guildmaster.
00:16:09
Speaker
Apologies, you were going to Sandrope. Guildmaster Sandrope. Enron of Clan Shadow Shield. Oh, fuck.
00:16:24
Speaker
If you're here, where's the dwarf? I regret to inform you, Guildmaster, that Ironside has unfortunately met a grisly end. fuck.
00:16:38
Speaker
However, it so happens that my business has brought me here and on the way we discovered Dern actually means. So it's possible we might be able to fulfill the deal he had with you or you had with him while we're doing our business here as well.
00:17:00
Speaker
What got him? Some kind of giant sandworm or something like that. A worm.
00:17:09
Speaker
Fucking giant though. Massive. Would swallow a whole elephant. Don't ask how I know. Fuck. Where was he? He was in the ah desert, in the cliffs. He was about, ah he looks over towards Bal. Bal nods. Bal nods.
00:17:27
Speaker
but you say barard about dareway on the On the road as it gets towards the cliffs and the dunes. We believe there's more tunnels there. That's perhaps where he was prospecting for whatever he was looking for for you.
00:17:40
Speaker
Keltracht. Huh? Is that what he's after? Yeah. Ah, fuck. How am I going explain this to them? To who? The Clan Shadowshield.
00:17:53
Speaker
Just killed another one of them. For fuck's sake.
00:17:58
Speaker
ah Come in. Shut the door. Mind me asking.
00:18:07
Speaker
i assume that you are after the amber stone and crystals that run deep within that area. Why
Keltrad's Magical Influence
00:18:21
Speaker
none of you from Tralak, I take it.
00:18:26
Speaker
I myself am not. I've only ro recently arrived. ah Well, there's this substance you probably heard of called Keltrad.
00:18:37
Speaker
It's illegal in every other kingdom bar this one. in this kingdom, every Keltrad mine is owned by the Vossan Company and they charge a small fortune to sell it.
00:18:54
Speaker
I thought we found some. Well, but I think we have that no one owns. And I sent now three members of Clan Shadow Seal to prospect it. And all three have failed.
00:19:10
Speaker
oh so how do you know about the other two? Because I've sent them and they've not come back.
00:19:19
Speaker
Wasn't one a year ago. epic One about nine months ago. And this one about three weeks ago.
00:19:28
Speaker
Tell me, is your clan forgiving one?
00:19:36
Speaker
I suppose it depends on ah compensation if it is necessary, depending on the nature of the business that was undertaken.
00:19:45
Speaker
Well, I paid them, but they're probably the only clan that would take this contract on.
00:19:53
Speaker
Was there anything else? So obviously you mentioned, is it just Keltred down there is anything else? Well, that's the most valuable thing we've got here in Northern Dralach. And to find a resource that's not claimed by that mongrel.
00:20:08
Speaker
It's a pipe dream, but... No one's ever used it in shipwriting before and...
00:20:18
Speaker
Well, you see what it can do with potions, I'm sure, and has really powerful magical effects, I thought. What do you think it's going to to shipwriting?
00:20:34
Speaker
I have this idea.
00:20:39
Speaker
You know how the sands... Have you spent long in Dralak? Some of the sands have currents, have tides, there are streams. Imagine if a ship could sail on both sand and sea.
00:20:51
Speaker
Get the fuck out of here! That's for real? That's what you're going to try and do? you're You're thinking of infusing your ship with Keltrad within the very building materials itself to make it be able to be imbued with magic to be able to do more than just sail on the sea.
00:21:07
Speaker
Yeah. To sail on the fucking sands! Yeah. I've made boats. I've made fleets my entire life.
00:21:19
Speaker
But always on the water. And I thought if I could crack this, then I would go down as one the best shipwrights in all history.
00:21:29
Speaker
I think there's perhaps an opportunity here because I'm also interested in crafting. And maybe if we could use Keltrads, if you can sort of, if we are able to get the Keltrads and you're able to... Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
00:21:44
Speaker
Like, I know a thing or two about ships. No one has ever even dreamt of such a thing of a sailing through sands. Like what makes you think that Keltrad? And this isn't me like going at you.
00:22:00
Speaker
I'm excited about this. But what gives you reason to think that this is the the way to do it? That Keltrad would be the tool needed?
00:22:13
Speaker
Was it just a drop in there in the mind palace one night? You woke up, bolt straight right, right, upright, and was like, I've got it. this This resource, Keltrad only ever grows in this kingdom.
00:22:28
Speaker
This kingdom is now a desolate, barren wasteland, and there must be a connection there. There must be something between the sand and the stone that If magic, ah this isn't my realm, I don't get that part, but if magic could somehow play a part and we could sail across the sand as fast as we could sail across the sea, imagine what it could do for this kingdom.
00:22:58
Speaker
All but the capital is absolutely dilapidated. Imagine being the first captain to sail the sands.
00:23:08
Speaker
Dralak's deserts are wilder than some of the oceans.
00:23:15
Speaker
There are kingdoms lost to sandstorms and time.
00:23:22
Speaker
This entire kingdom is a treasure trove yet to be discovered. Is that what this ship is being built for? Not this one. No, this is just another poxy commission from Vossan.
00:23:37
Speaker
Make many ships for Vosan. Yeah. These days. we friends with Vosan? Well, he has the coin. Are we friends with Vosan?
00:23:49
Speaker
He has the coin. Savvy. So, as was saying, it is perhaps that we might be able to see about acquiring this Caltrod, or at least doing better than my previous colleagues.
00:24:06
Speaker
We're here on other business. We don't mind trying to... Certainly I don't mind trying to help out. And hopefully that'll... In order to, you know, square away c kind with Clan Shadow Shield on your bi behalf, if you could do us some favours while we're here, I'm sure that could be arranged for us to help out at your end.
00:24:23
Speaker
This sounds like a longer conversation.
00:24:27
Speaker
Come. Let me get you something to drink. Sounds marvellous. And he just... You got any Keltrad?
00:24:37
Speaker
He begins one by one just to try and like wheel some some barrels. There's like two stools. It's very makeshift. No one really sits for particularly long periods of time, but around this huge desk that's just full of paperwork, he's able to conjure up six things that are suitable for sitting on.
00:24:53
Speaker
And then he just goes to a small cabinet in one of the offices, comes back out and just produces ah this this red bottle of of of wine and pours it six ways.
00:25:06
Speaker
He must be thirsty. I'm so sorry. and so because I going to say, Seth will not sit and will have spent the entire time pondering and wandering around like he's looking at the boat like Nick's, but has no fucking clue what he's looking at.
00:25:18
Speaker
and But will just be, oh, every now i'm pointing up at things and then will not sit down and is going to keep as far away from this half-orc as possible. I would just be looking at the hull and looking around just like an inspector basically. Make a deception check.
00:25:34
Speaker
Oh, fuck. You're trying to blend with advantage. With advantage because weve got the social thing from last Until we fail. Until we fail, which might be very soon. Yep, that's a three.
00:25:46
Speaker
I know it's ah with advantage, with advantage, advantage. Better, 16. Ah, wow. ah There's enough going on that he's convinced that you are inspecting the ship, as just most yeah travelers do when they come into this space.
00:26:00
Speaker
Like Nyx, but less nerdy. That's what he's going for. Nyx is going to come up to you and just nerd out.
00:26:09
Speaker
He takes a seat. and just Everyone takes a seat. You said you're here on other business and looks around at all of you. i We're... ah I've been... We're looking for a man.
00:26:25
Speaker
Okay. was last seen around here. Okay. Hang on, this is a Will asking question. we We were told the name, weren't we? No. I thought we were told the name. Sorry.
00:26:40
Speaker
No, only Nick shows the image of the person. So Nick shows the description of him. Okay. um we were less Unless ah Will is able to confirm from notes.
00:26:52
Speaker
<unk> Perfect memory alpha. now This right here is the keel. And this right here is the rudder. And here will be the gun ports.
00:27:05
Speaker
No guns on this one, son. It's a Vossan ship. This one is for speed.
00:27:12
Speaker
I wonder, pray tell, do you know why he needs a speed vessel? Usually Vossan deals with larger vessels for war. I think now he's relying on his name that no one will try and mess with him.
00:27:29
Speaker
Wow. So I'm making a new set of ships. Just three. Set? Just three. That don't carry guns. But his sails are made particularly big and his flag even bigger.
00:27:45
Speaker
To intimidate people based on his reputation so he doesn't have to fire his guns. Correct. Correct. But you use a bigger warship to intimidate. I mean, using your name alone, i've no that is that's a... Big balls.
00:27:58
Speaker
If he's built the reputation that people tend to come to sticky ends if they face him, people won't try. In these waters,
Vossan's Infamy
00:28:07
Speaker
piracy is near gone.
00:28:13
Speaker
It would take every pirate, every independent sailor, every merchant, to unify under one banner to stand a chance... to stand a chance against his reach.
00:28:30
Speaker
How much does a ship like this say cost to have built? I haven't worked that out yet. Wow. Normally you charge by the time, the parts, the scarcity of resource and the demand.
00:28:50
Speaker
I haven't yet decided what the top side of this looks like.
00:28:55
Speaker
Sounds like so far. I've invested 25,000 gold. Sounds like he's going to pay really well. and And forgive me again, not coming at you, but you're still interested in the Keltrad mining. Yes.
00:29:11
Speaker
Is that more for legacy as opposed to wealth?
00:29:22
Speaker
For now. A dream.
00:29:26
Speaker
But I digress. You were telling me why you're here. Yes, this man we're after. um Nick, you describe him? Yeah. You want me to do it here? Now? He's asking, yeah.
00:29:41
Speaker
okay And Nick will sit and explain the image that he saw in his mind. I can't remember it.
00:29:54
Speaker
So you describe exactly the image that you saw when you read the mind of Ghostwing.
00:30:06
Speaker
Was this back at the in the room where Reigns got kicked out? Yeah, during the meeting, you guys had one of six things you could choose to do. This is the thing you chose to do. And then you detect thoughts and saw the exact image.
00:30:19
Speaker
And as you explain that image...
00:30:29
Speaker
May I ask why you're after him?
00:30:33
Speaker
Just like you hired someone from Clan Shadow Shield fetch some Keltrad on this occasion, I've hired to find him. we We've been hired to find him.
00:30:46
Speaker
He nods out to the bay. That's his ship. Oh, fancy that. Is on board? No, I haven't seen him in a few... almost a week.
00:31:00
Speaker
Did he arrive by himself, or was there a crew? There was a crew the first time. This time it was just him and his partner.
00:31:20
Speaker
You're... you're new to these parts.
00:31:25
Speaker
You're a Chris Grau? Nope. What is it about him? He's the only other new face we've had in a while that's drawn interest.
00:31:38
Speaker
Someone's asked us to find him and that's all we know. I see. Well... Gotta to find work where you can Hey, friend.
00:31:50
Speaker
Sounds like it. Listen, and if you'd if you're trying to locate him, you're either working for or against the Chris Greer.
00:32:00
Speaker
I kind of need to know which way you are before I tell you any more, friend.
00:32:06
Speaker
Everyone looks at him. Can I try and sort of perceive sort of, is there like a is there any like subtle sort of, you know, micro expressions that he's giving off as to how he feels about them when he meant, when he says the word of Chris Greer.
00:32:22
Speaker
Make an insight check. Thanks. While that's happening, just off in the distance, you just hear echoing in the tavern. um and the warehouse. and this Sorry, in the warehouse. Sorry, I didn't say warehouse. Nithravar saying to Seth, Your heartbeat is very loud. Boom, boom, boom. Do you ever think it'll miss one?
00:32:41
Speaker
And Seth just kind of turns around and ah pretends like it was him that um had had said it. And Guildmaster Sandrop just turns, looks at you with a intimidating sort of eyebrow furl, holds his cigar up to his lips again, like a cowboy would and just studies you quietly at a distance, as though you're disrupting a really nice meal over here and trying to figure out what you're doing.
00:33:11
Speaker
But you now have his full attention. Seth's hand goes down towards his side and he's just kind of like moving his hand under, under the folds of his cloak. Like he's trying to like push Nithra, but obviously his hands go straight through him.
00:33:25
Speaker
so he just brings it back up really subtly. Not subtle at all. and Just continue keeping watching you. Look, he put your points towards that the the frame of the boat and um c coughs and ah continues walking.
00:33:42
Speaker
and Unless someone takes your attention away, he's just going stare at you, Seth. That was a 17, by the way, Danny. 17? Yeah. Does it succeed? You couldn't tell. ah but that but is it enough? Because I've got an ability that says if I fail an ability check, I can expend the use of second wind.
00:33:58
Speaker
But I have to know if I've failed or not.
00:34:01
Speaker
You failed. Okay. I'd like to expend my tactical mind second wind. to add a d10 to the result. Okay. o Ooh. Shit, son.
00:34:13
Speaker
So that's now... I get to add a five to it. Now, if I still fail, I get to the use of second wind isn't expended. It's a really cool ability. If it's now 22, you succeed.
00:34:26
Speaker
Yes, cool. Okay, I expend the use of second wind. You gather the very slightest hint that he is not a fan of the upchrisker when you phrase that. And in his dictation and very subtle movements in his tongue and in his eyes.
00:34:44
Speaker
Thank you. As he sees his sort of attention to go towards Seth, he's like, we're, and he looks around, we're no friends of the Chris Gurita.
00:34:55
Speaker
We've had our run-ins.
00:34:59
Speaker
Some people in this group have cooked more than others.
00:35:06
Speaker
Cooked. And then he looks quite alarmed at the fact you're eating them. Not eating. Some of our ah party have a penchant for fire, shall we say.
00:35:25
Speaker
They built this place. About four years ago. About four
Sandrop's Royal Past
00:35:35
Speaker
Before the Tri-Cowen Agreement, before the Vossan, Fizzle, Thok and the Upchriscra, none of this was here.
00:35:46
Speaker
I used to make ships for the king before his line ended.
00:35:54
Speaker
When those three came to town, well, I got seconded indefinitely to this shit tip
00:36:08
Speaker
A few days ago, the Kriskor just up and left.
00:36:13
Speaker
Garrisons of them here. Headed south. Some sort of emergency, something to do with that thing in the sky.
00:36:26
Speaker
Your friend. Or this acquaintance you're looking for.
00:36:36
Speaker
He was interested in them too.
00:36:43
Speaker
looking for him, I don't know much.
00:36:49
Speaker
Him and his partner, they were really interested in this old fucking Yuan-Ti temple that's long since been abandoned, about four miles south of here, across the sands. It's a fucking weird place.
00:37:11
Speaker
Hard to get to. Not so much hard as hard to see.
00:37:19
Speaker
you're looking for him, head south until you see a sandstorm that doesn't stop.
00:37:26
Speaker
Inside that sandstorm, you'll find the doors to the temple.
00:37:32
Speaker
That's where you'll find him. Well, I don't know that, but that's where he was interested in.
00:37:44
Speaker
His partner came looking for him this morning.
00:37:48
Speaker
Who's his partner?
00:37:54
Speaker
I bet it's not Where could we find his partner? Same place I just told you. the temple?
00:38:05
Speaker
Yeah, it was the last time we saw him. Well, the last thing we knew.
00:38:11
Speaker
McBenner is his name. the individual you're looking for.
00:38:17
Speaker
Some traveler from the East.
00:38:23
Speaker
That's been very useful for us. Thank you.
00:38:28
Speaker
Thank you very much. That gives us a really good direction to go from.
00:38:34
Speaker
and notice you've been quiet dragonborn.
00:38:43
Speaker
Baal will kind of smile.
00:38:49
Speaker
And he will turn his attention back to the boat. And he'll say,
00:39:08
Speaker
in dragonborn equates to something along the lines of
00:39:14
Speaker
Getting one of those to sail on the sands is only half the battle.
00:39:22
Speaker
Surely controlling the flow of the river is the bigger task.
00:39:30
Speaker
I think he must be quiet because he must be common. Is that right? In Draconic.
00:39:37
Speaker
Yeah, that's right. What? Yeah, that's right, bitch. What?
00:39:44
Speaker
yeah yeahka ra to which is depends on the captain. And Barl's mouth drops open and he stares at Nyx. you will just hear him say, you cheeky bitch. Emron nods over.
00:40:11
Speaker
andron's um and it's over a It's complicated with him. Tell me, there's something else for you. You haven't, and he looks around again, seen or heard anything about any eat dragon eggs, have you?
00:40:26
Speaker
Passing through here.
00:40:30
Speaker
Bal, you can't help but notice he looks at you for slightly too long. Maybe.
00:40:44
Speaker
My friend here would be interested if he had if we had.
00:40:55
Speaker
I'm not a fighting man.
00:41:04
Speaker
You are all very well armed and you're in my house. We're not here to intimidate you. Not our intention to fight you.
00:41:18
Speaker
Yeah, I know about Dragon X.
00:41:28
Speaker
Okay, so are you just going to keep that smoke to yourself or can we all take a toke?
00:41:35
Speaker
Reaches into his drawer. Throws you a pouch that's got about eight of them in.
00:41:43
Speaker
I like him. Notice there's a couple of torches dotted around. Not that you need to worry about that. Bow baby. We know the Okriscra were shipping them out of the deep parts of Dralak.
00:42:00
Speaker
One of the jobs I've had before this, or we've had before this, was to track them down. Some got away. It would help us and our other business to know, perhaps, either where they got to if they came here, and if we can find out where they've gone after that.
00:42:20
Speaker
I don't know much.
00:42:24
Speaker
I'm one stage in the chain.
00:42:35
Speaker
I'm fearful of what I say. So I prefer not to speak.
00:42:42
Speaker
You were, you've implied that you're under the, or you were under the caution of Kriskra. Sounds like you've not had much free will of your own since they set up here three years ago.
00:42:58
Speaker
Make a persuasion check.
00:43:01
Speaker
Still advantage. Still, yeah. Although technically, did you fail the last one and you needed to boost it? Yeah, well... Insight? It passed eventually. I'll let you go on insight.
00:43:12
Speaker
It wasn't part of the core four. Okay, an advantage. Okay, let's have a look. Persuasion with advantage...
00:43:25
Speaker
Unless I know failed, in which case I'll then use a second burst of second wind because I've realised this is really cool. You pass. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
00:43:43
Speaker
The last few months.
00:43:47
Speaker
It's been my job and he's really struggling to not have any eye contact with Baal but guiltily keeps flicking back to Baal at certain points.
00:43:59
Speaker
We'd receive wagons.
00:44:06
Speaker
We had to get them on ships.
00:44:14
Speaker
Not just on them but hidden within them. Oh boy.
00:44:21
Speaker
Criss-criss ships would come. There aren't many criss-criss ships.
00:44:27
Speaker
And then when independent, when pirates and travellers would come, they'd book in for repairs with me.
00:44:36
Speaker
I also had to get them hidden in those ships. For someone else to then capture the ships and get the eggs Maybe. Maybe.
00:44:48
Speaker
I wasn't to know that part. I assume the owners of the boats didn't know they were on there. No. My discretion i was paid handsomely for. It's the reason why I could afford clan Shadow Shield agents to come out this far.
00:45:03
Speaker
Did you know what you were hiding was it just a non-assurance package? I knew what were hiding. Okay. takes four of us to lift one of those things.
00:45:13
Speaker
It's just going to take a hot look at Baal for a moment to see how that news landed.
00:45:22
Speaker
Baal would like to try to keep a straight face.
00:45:26
Speaker
Emphasis on the try.
00:45:34
Speaker
those ships that we hid them on, I've never seen them come back.
00:45:44
Speaker
Perchance, hide one on a ship called the Esmeralda, did you? He thinks for a second. Manned by Captain Hildegard?
00:45:58
Speaker
He really struggles whilst thinking, really reaching the depths of his mind. I've never heard of either of those. i mean I mean, I'm sure you heard of them, but it's good to know that they didn't need to come in here for any repairs slash old big eggs.
00:46:18
Speaker
Do you know the names of the boats that you put the eggs on? Ooh.
00:46:26
Speaker
That's a good question. It's like asking if you know the names of the people you murdered. Of course I fucking do.
00:46:40
Speaker
It would help us to track them down.
00:46:45
Speaker
We didn't write it down anywhere.
00:46:51
Speaker
I can make your list though. It might take me a while. I appreciate that. cor shall run krishhan He'll say to Nyx, which is asking him ask him what colour the eggs were.
00:47:15
Speaker
Out of interest, what colour were the eggs that you put on said ships?
00:47:22
Speaker
ah Looks a bit more comforted by this because you can see that Paul isn't this colour blue.
00:47:39
Speaker
I'm still learning.
00:47:41
Speaker
LAUGHTER I forgot the colours.
00:47:47
Speaker
ah Bar will again try to remain a straight face. try Try not to give anything away.
00:47:57
Speaker
We appreciate it. I was left with a little choice. and And I understand that. That's why I appreciate what you said to us. I know it's not easy, especially given you probably fear for any vengeance from any dragon related people who might want to, you know, burn a bitch for handling eggs, but...
00:48:24
Speaker
All I know is where they came from or where they go. but collected them from the temple. Which temple? The same one McBen has gone to look at. The UNT temple. So you collected them from there?
00:48:37
Speaker
Yes. They're brought to us from there.
Journey to the Yuan-Ti Temple
00:48:40
Speaker
Sometimes we'd help go fetch to. Say help. Press gang's more like. Is it day away? How far far is the temple?
00:48:49
Speaker
No, less than that. It's about six miles. But the sand shifts.
00:48:59
Speaker
You have to go on foot. Can't take a cart and animals.
00:49:05
Speaker
It would be slower. You want to travel light. Direct. Okay. But it won't take you more than a morning to get there. Well, except you'd still get there before the sun sets this evening.
00:49:26
Speaker
Did have Chris grab a base Beachborough? It's all of it. But did he have a headquarters, a central office or anything like that? No, they just were here.
00:49:39
Speaker
And everyone's gone, right? There's not any lingering... There's maybe two or three dozen business owners, um sailors, fishermen, like... That are part of the Obkriska or just like yourself? All of the Obkriska were called south and I don't know why. There's no Obkriskas left here whatsoever.
00:50:01
Speaker
Not to the best of my knowledge. They'd normally have checked in by now. was Did Vossan have anything to with the yeah dragon egg transportation? yeah Not that I saw. i only ever dealt with a Chris Kro.
00:50:15
Speaker
Vossan would be involved. That's too much money on the table for that. There's a power play going on. And you're not a name like Vossan without knowing what's going on on the seas.
00:50:27
Speaker
I had a theory that that's maybe we why we were hiding them. To stop Vossan from knowing. Vossan would never break the Tri-Crown Agreement. He'd never infringe on a Christopher property searching a Christopher ship.
00:50:41
Speaker
We didn't have to hide them.
00:50:45
Speaker
But he wouldn't blink twice for a pirate.
00:50:51
Speaker
So maybe hide him on the ship and let Vossan...
00:50:56
Speaker
I think our job was to make sure Vossan never knew they were going out. Okay. Okay.
00:51:04
Speaker
I don't know. I could have a completely wrong end of stick. No, no, it's right. I was just trying to think if there's anything else we could do it for Chris Gratter headquarters. It might be worth us having a look around before we left to go into this temple.
00:51:15
Speaker
um Thanks for the moment. Smokes, these are awesome, Nick says as he's been puffing on one. It's the least I could do. And hold so tries to hold Baal's eye contact now a bit more confidently.
00:51:34
Speaker
I'm not proud of it. I mean, no offense, but...
00:51:41
Speaker
A man's got lot to eat.
00:51:46
Speaker
Maybe any, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. But I will give like a slight nod at that, but you would see one of his hands kind of twitching at his side, just kind of fingers twitching, not in like an an aggressive way, not like a Wild West way, but you can just see them kind of, he can't, he can't disguise it, but he's kind of nodding calmly to this person.
00:52:17
Speaker
It may be what you've done here is perhaps redeemed you if you can if you've been developed to ah solve the mystery where these eggs are going. Or at least go some way towards it.
00:52:31
Speaker
That's all the information I have. Thank you. I think McBenner might know more. He's been looking into it for a few, well, months now.
00:52:45
Speaker
Emeril up to the group. What do you reckon then? Head out to this temple now or wait until um the morning? I don't know. I think Alpha's a really good judge of... Momental moments.
00:53:01
Speaker
This is a good time for your thoughts. Are you wondering what I'm thinking there, Nix? little bit.
00:53:10
Speaker
We have come with a mission. We must complete it as efficiently as possible. I would suggest we make haste. If we can get there before sundown, I see no reason as to why not.
00:53:23
Speaker
See, now, i I see what you're saying. I'm more of a, like, we can wait and see type guy. We should, like, settle up and find a cozy bed and get some rest so that we're all ready for taking on this Temple of Doom, as it were.
00:53:44
Speaker
And I'd still agree with my own choice of actions.
00:53:51
Speaker
Do mortals blink so slowly? Are you sure you're not missing something in between? Sandro turns back to Seth again.
00:54:02
Speaker
He coughs loudly.
00:54:08
Speaker
And then knocks with his hand on the wood of one of the ah ah skeleton bits of the boat. and Coughs again. you not care to join us, friend?
00:54:20
Speaker
He says to you, Seth.
00:54:23
Speaker
Seth kind of vob night i he kind of ah waves him off and just keeps but pointing and looking at wood. i imagine it's like Mr. Bean. Everyone
00:54:36
Speaker
and one sort of looks him. If we do decide to stay overnight and set off in the morning, we've been told about the two taverns here, or in one of which is for locals only.
00:54:48
Speaker
Should we stay at the other one, or is there somewhere near being as this place is mostly empty, that we could bed up for the night? I can offer you a warehouse. Half of them are empty. At least then you're not.
00:55:02
Speaker
Well, I can't guarantee you won't be riddled with bugs and the damp, but
00:55:13
Speaker
it's your call. And he just sort of goes into the Goes into the drawer again and throws a key, a great big key, onto the table and just points outside the door. Just across the road from here.
00:55:27
Speaker
There's a small storeroom in there. It's yours if you want it.
00:55:34
Speaker
Thank you. It might be an option we explore just in case we don't want to cause any issues with any locals. um I think that's a great option. That's the best option. Thank you. We appreciate that.
00:55:46
Speaker
We'll leave you and your people to the um to the building you bought, and we'll appreciate that list.
A Safe Haven Offered
00:55:55
Speaker
Maybe you can give it to us when we get back.
00:55:57
Speaker
Yeah, I might just need some time in my conscience to remember all the names. Yeah, understand that.
00:56:08
Speaker
Okay, let's ah shall we be toddling out then? If everyone looks at the group.
00:56:18
Speaker
Yes, I see no reason to remain here. I have a question before you go. Ask away.
00:56:29
Speaker
McBenn is partner.
00:56:36
Speaker
He said a group of six might come asking questions. Did he really? Yeah.
00:56:49
Speaker
In helpful way or in a not so helpful way? All he said was after gave him the update where McBenner had gone.
00:57:07
Speaker
He said a group of six might come asking questions. Let them know where the temple is.
00:57:17
Speaker
but you're a group of five.
00:57:24
Speaker
Aye, we were six until very recently.
00:57:35
Speaker
It may be that they that message was for us. It may be that it won't, but we have good intentions. We don't mean anything nefarious towards the person we're meant to find. What I'm saying is if I see a group of six who come asking questions, I'm probably going to tell them the same thing I've just told you. so i mean Maybe you just don't just tell us. It's quite... Unless you're absolutely sure.
00:58:00
Speaker
I'm not sure of much.
00:58:05
Speaker
But if you're moving against the Akriska, then I'll do I can.
00:58:13
Speaker
It's one of the many moves we've been making. I just feel like we've got lot moves.
Garrick Sandrope's Identity
00:58:21
Speaker
Let's be going. Let's lead these people to build their boat. Yeah, I think we're out. Sounds good. sorry so It's it definitely a ship.
00:58:30
Speaker
You know where i am. If I can be of any more help, please call. Thank you, Guildmaster.
00:58:40
Speaker
Garrick Sandrope. That's a good name. I like it it. sounds strong.
00:58:45
Speaker
Sandrope I picked myself.
00:58:52
Speaker
Thanks to you. Seth's going to give a really awkward thumbs up from a corner and slowly shuffle his way towards the rest of the group and follow them.
00:59:03
Speaker
And you're all exiting? Yeah.
00:59:07
Speaker
Yeah. yeah Okay. Nix is holding back for Baal.
00:59:13
Speaker
Yeah. Bar will ah not linger too long. ah The twitching will have stopped and he will join the group. Okay. And where is your next destination?
00:59:25
Speaker
You step back out onto the street. And one sort of looks the group. So we've been given the key to a warehouse that's over there to say it if we want. I wondered whether perhaps we might want to look around McBenners boat just to see if there's anything.
00:59:39
Speaker
For the love of everything, e everyone, it's like saying that your God is just a person. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Exactly. That's a big step. Like divinity and people, that's a big step. We're talking ships and boats. That's my mouth's my religion.
00:59:54
Speaker
Okay, I apologize. Shall we go and check out McBenners ship just in case anything was left on there or any clues that might, you know, be hidden away that we could perhaps make be useful towards.
01:00:08
Speaker
That's a good idea.
01:00:12
Speaker
Seth nods. and I'm having lots of them today. And draws for some time. Look at you. You're having a big brain moment here, everyone, and we are here for it. Thanks, Nick. That means a lot coming from you.
01:00:26
Speaker
I don't have these big brain moments, more like middling brain moments periodically at different times. Okay, let's go and check out this this ship.
01:00:37
Speaker
I nearly said it again, ship. Let's go check out the ship.
01:00:41
Speaker
So it's it's only about 60 feet to the a east of your location as you sort of head now along the boardwalk dock and you head out to the only jetty that has a ah ship moored at it.
Investigating McBenners's Ship
01:00:57
Speaker
walk past this boat...
01:01:00
Speaker
it's almost accented by sort of bamboo reed. It's a real craft that, Nix, you haven't really got this close to a ship like this before. You've maybe seen it in passing from miles or leagues away, but but this close and just seeing how it's sort of layered and it's it's craft.
01:01:20
Speaker
You can't help but be impressed, Nix, at this, just just just different culture of craft.
01:01:27
Speaker
And then you get to the gangplank at the end of the jetty, which goes onto the deck of the ship. Before you cross, is there anything you're wanting to do? that There is no one on the ship. There are no sort of open provisions there on the deck that you might want to like, that thats just take, not left for, so in order to prevent anyone just chanting, stealing anything. Like, everything's locked away if there is anything. There is nothing of valuable on display.
01:01:54
Speaker
It's not equipped to leave. like There is no fresh provisions on board. um there is definitely All of the cannons have been off and serviced. and The mast is all tucked and tied up.
01:02:07
Speaker
Sorry, the mast is where it is. The sail is furled. The sail is furled, yes. It flies no flag. And none of the side chambers or windows are open.
01:02:21
Speaker
Everyone looks to others in the group. Breaking and entering isn't my expertise, so wonder whether someone else could take the lead on this. I can do this. I can do this. We just walk, and Nyx will just push by and walk over onto the deck of the ship.
01:02:34
Speaker
Broken and entering, and two will bow in front of you. Okay. Could you make a dexterity saving throw as you step onto the gangplank, please? I want to see Nix fall in the sea. please. Nix falls the drink. I've never wanted a natural one more. Hey, Callum, don't you have a dice roll that can make it a natural one?
01:02:53
Speaker
I ain't wasting it on making Nix look foolish. Callum's talked more about wanting Nix to fall than he has the entire fucking episode. Can we just make that for second? Yeah, he's spoken about it too, just openly. It's nice to hear your voice. 13.
01:03:09
Speaker
Oh, shit. A tether of water shoots out from the water below the gangplank, wraps itself like a whip around the gangplank and snaps it in two and you fall about 12 feet straight but remember into this water.
01:03:29
Speaker
And then it begins to generate a bit of a whirlwind around
Nyx's Watery Predicament
01:03:32
Speaker
you. and you're sort of trapped in this vortex, Nyx. You can't swim out for the foreseeable. You'll watch as Nyx appears to be drew imminently in peril.
01:03:43
Speaker
Like he's about to drown. As he is just in the water below you, spiraling towards the bottom of the sea. Seth pushes Alpharin. 100%.
01:03:59
Speaker
It's the spider that swims. It's come back for him. Make a contested grapple, please, if that's the case. It's not contested anymore. It's a there's a it's a it's a d c DC, it? Oh, it is. it's Which is there it is eight plus alpha strength modifier and his proficiency.
01:04:13
Speaker
but but's the The DC is set by Seth. He's pushing. No, no. like Seth's got to beat the DC, hasn't he? Yeah, I've got to beat him. You're saying Seth is pushing him in? So Seth is making the action, the shove action.
01:04:27
Speaker
Al, to avoid it, has a saving throw. So Seth sets the DC with eight o set plus strength plus proficiency. I didn't know whether Seth had to roll the other thing. It's also, as a sidebar, now might be a good time to ah bring up my Eldritch invocations to which I have Gift of the Depths.
01:04:46
Speaker
So i have ah I have the ability to breathe underwater and gain a swing speed equal to my walking speed or run speed. You think there's mute no shit?
01:04:58
Speaker
Absolutely not. Did you, when we when you last did this fucking stupid ship, did you mention that you could now breathe underwater? or No, i't know but not at all. no no no this That was for the DM, not for you guys.
01:05:12
Speaker
And as a character, y'all don't know that I know like so i have drowned before. Cool. Nick, you're currently restrained, if it helps. You you are unable to use that speed.
01:05:24
Speaker
I assume so much, but I just wanted to Yeah, that out there for you. So something with this push in his excitement to um try and get on and he wants to break onto the boat as well.
01:05:36
Speaker
When he sees that fall, he's already moving forward at pace. And then as he moves, he's going to lower his shoulder and thump it into like the lower back of Alpha with a loud twang. It's a 12 to beat the contested grapple.
01:05:55
Speaker
and Come on. Either roll strength or act dramatically. No, no. So you take your eight plus your strength modifier plus your proficiency bonus. It's saving throw. It's a throw. I thought that was me. Oh, sorry. No, Seth, set the DC. yeah Alpha needs to roll a saving throw. i Sorry. I thought the 12 was your roll, Seth. No, no. It's a saving throw.
01:06:14
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, it's no longer a contested like competition anymore. We're telling you, Will, don't worry. We're teaching you a rule for once. Well, no, because I wasn't... Ooh. I'm saying let us teach you. Let us teach you, bro. You've given us so much. of our voice man you got My ooh is for what Callum just rolled. I just wasn't sure what side of the time was I rolled a 21. Seth has basically shoulder-parched brick wall. Yeah.
01:06:43
Speaker
It's all right, Seth. I ah understand. It's fine. I'm just going to jump in anyway. i i don't know Nick can breathe under water. I know I can. I'm jumping in.
01:06:56
Speaker
And I'm going to try and time it. Please say you don't land on me. Does the sky just suddenly become black as this big shadow comes to us? no, no, no. Yeah. Basically, whichever way it's flowing, i want to kind of time it so I can jump in and then hopefully, with a little bit of resistance, kind of meet him.
01:07:13
Speaker
it's It's one swirling vortex. So you're just you'll jump in and you'll join him in that vortex. But you've already told me you're jumping now. I'm definitely jumping in. I just want to kind of time it to try and get as close to him as possible. Oh, within seconds you'll be close as possible because it's it's typhooning to one singular point.
01:07:32
Speaker
and Okay. Can I lay your hand on the mix? More than that, you are touching at about seven or eight different contact points as you're spinning at quite a quick pace. As perthage.
01:07:44
Speaker
You also have a Quazza on your shoulder, Al. Everyone's going to get a rope out and throw a rope in and be like, someone grab on. Yeah, thank you Alpha, can i shake can I get a good look at the pier?
01:07:58
Speaker
At the underside of the pier? ah Well, is there any way on the surface I can actually lay eyes on? No, so so the the jetty that you jumped off is about 12 feet now above you, and then you've got the ship's hull to the side of you, and you're caught in a vortex every now and again just banging parts of your head against the hull of the ship.
01:08:18
Speaker
but you're and So you're like 12 feet down from the jetty now.
01:08:24
Speaker
Okay. I'll find rope down to try and fish them out. Yeah, fair enough. This is like the shittiest fishing game ever. ah You look utterly disgusted, Will.
01:08:36
Speaker
ah Not entertained whatsoever. Which Will? Which Will? You. I'm sorry. That's everyone's face right now. who book sickck For For fucksick. Do you to laugh use the rope to pull back up?
01:08:49
Speaker
Gonna try and grab it, yes. yeahp ah ah ah and Nyx is gonna look to you with all serious eyes. Hold on to me. And just grab the rope.
01:09:02
Speaker
Pearl! They're restrained, so you guys have to do something up top. Emron looks to Bal and Seth and says, grab on, let's haul these two fish out of the sea. Seth acquiesces and holds Emron sheepishly around the waist.
01:09:17
Speaker
no All of the rope, not me. Then he grabs the rope. Grabs the rope, grabs the rope. Kid Al. Bar's kind of peering over the edge at Nix and Alpha spinning round.
01:09:29
Speaker
At the moment, he doesn't perceive it to be a drastic sense of danger. He's just kind of watching. And he sighs a little bit and grabs the rope. Right, on the count of three.
01:09:45
Speaker
pull them out of the water without any problem. And as as ah you two return to the jetty and sort of just stabilize yourself for a second and look in the opposite direction, you can just see four gnomes and a half orc still smoking the tail end of a cigar, just watching you.
01:10:02
Speaker
from sort of work uh workhouse is is the orc is it the orc the guild master yeah oh that's bug so nix is gonna take off his hat and he's gonna put it in both hands and wring it out so as i was saying you gotta be careful because breaking and entering onto a ship leads to unknown dangers um so what happened there nix was it a trap it ah i I just made sure I took the bullet for you, my friend.
01:10:33
Speaker
Nick will turn and look back at McBenna's boat. I assume that was the only gangplank on. Just the one. yeah And how far is the ship from the dock?
01:10:48
Speaker
doggies. So, um, he's going to, he's going to just go, okay, good time for this anyway. And then purple energy as he shakes his hands. Cause he's trying to like a dog almost just shake the water off him. And he's going to look back, please work. He's going to look back at everyone, do a cheeky wink as he's shaking his hands. And this purple electricity starts to come out of his horns and overtake his body.
01:11:13
Speaker
And he's going to cast for the first time at third level, uh, Fly, motherfucker. Yeah, buddy. And as ah as that purple electricity kind of courses through his body, he's just going to still shaking his hands out after winking at everyone.
01:11:33
Speaker
Fly. But he's never done it before. So after trying to be all bravado, he's going to shoot straight up and go, shit, shit, shit, shit! Okay. And which spell book is that from? Your sorcerer or your warlock?
01:11:48
Speaker
Warlock. Okay. And you're flying to land yourself on the hull? On the deck, sorry? After... after almost like Iron Man trying to learn to fly for the first time, where it's like bursts of fire, more little burst it like spiraling. So it ain't as graceful.
01:12:07
Speaker
Can't be as great. it's his first time. Can't be as graceful as he wanted to be, nor as he tried to make it out to be, but he will... end up on the ship it's up to you to decide if he ends up with a small hover after gaining control or face first crumpled a mess it's more like you know you get this extra set of limbs as these wings come out and you're you're doing your best to figure out how they work you take a few moments just to sort of learn that and as you head towards the hull you sort of pass an envelope
01:12:40
Speaker
And you make another dexterity saving throw is you can just see these whips from the water fox say fling up towards you again.
01:12:50
Speaker
Cool. That's less. So that's a nine. ah
01:12:57
Speaker
Yay, Nix. He's so fun. You're struck.
01:13:04
Speaker
For six points of bludgeoning damage oh by these whips. And then you are restrained mid-air. So your wings are keeping you aloft, but the the water, like Marota's whip, is wrapped around your ankles.
01:13:20
Speaker
Can't save for damage? Yeah. that flight Concentration is spell. Oh, yeah, you're right. New thing for you to remember, Ian. Yay!
01:13:33
Speaker
12, 13. Pass. you pass um So what looked like a lot of energy to get up that high and to almost show off?
01:13:45
Speaker
and not almost, to try and show off, as soon as he gets caught again, his head just goes limp and looks at it. His wings are still beating. For all intents and purposes, he's a fucking hemium balloon right now, but his head has gone limp and he's just just like, for fuck's sake.
01:14:00
Speaker
and You just hear, between two puffs of a cigar, that's trapped, that is. Yeah. will Thanks. Got it.
01:14:13
Speaker
Nix, I think that's trapped, by the way. Thanks, Emron. It does look pretty cool. You want to just slice this thing? need a Alpha, it doesn't look that cool. It's a bit fucking stupid, really.
01:14:30
Speaker
We're looking really incompetent in front of these guys. We're looking really incompetent. Just announces. Do you need a hand or you just going to float there all day? it with a hand, yep. We were wondering whether there might be anything on the board that might give us any or indication of Buck Bennett's whereabouts. don't know it's beyond what you've told us. That's what we were trying to do. We're not trying to, like, nick the thing.
01:14:50
Speaker
Just trying to make sure we have all the information. Turns out you lot are pirates then. So lovey. Savvy. We're not all pirates. Everyone clarifies.
01:15:02
Speaker
Right. well' That's such a smart sentence.
01:15:07
Speaker
There's probably leagues of information in there that would enlighten you. Yeah, but I don't think you're getting past the enchantments. It was a very private person. So glad I burnt spells for this.
01:15:21
Speaker
Rumor is... must have a lot of money to have traps like this. Well, you're right. Rumor is he's a very wealthy man. And he keeps all that wealth on that board.
01:15:36
Speaker
What happens if Nyx flies towards the shore? You can't move. Oh, fuck! You're entirely restrained right now. You need to do something about... Anyone get any, like, hedge trimmers here?
01:15:48
Speaker
You can attempt to break the restraint. So you can you can make yourself a strength saving throw to try and break out. Yeah, let's fucking do it. Let's fly up. My strength is shit. Technically, do this every six seconds. Cool. That's a five.
01:16:00
Speaker
Oh, God. You're pulled 10 feet closer towards the water at this point. So you're just hovering two, no, 10 feet exactly off the ground, but lower than lower than the jetty. So your eyes are like a bow's waist. Is the is the is the like strand of water, is it targetable?
01:16:19
Speaker
ah ka can i Can I cast Sacred Flame on it? Flame on water. Let's try it. but Actually, it's radiant damage. It's flame on radiant damage. ah Could it make a dexterity? I've got a fucking dagger! You're restrained or restrained. I do not have a stat block for water.
01:16:40
Speaker
As you're hovering around our height, I'll just kind of stare at you. You'll see a little bit of pity in Barl's eyes, and he'll say... Darling, just say the word and I'll get the wildfire spirit to get you out of there.
01:16:52
Speaker
Oh, not the safe word. Right. Cool. Yes. um Help. I've already called that the fire. Yeah. So everyone casts the sacred flame, breaks the water in two.
01:17:04
Speaker
And Nick's because you're so used to that downward force for a second. You almost dropped that point where you're about to fall into the water and then your wings just kick in like Peter Pan before he falls to his death in hook. can fly she can fly You just pull your flap, flap, coolly back up past Bell's waist to head height level.
01:17:24
Speaker
Anyone, perchance, didn't see all of that? No, we saw it. Everyone points down. The gnome saw it. Yeah, we saw it. Master Sandro saw it. Yeah, we saw it.
01:17:36
Speaker
They're all sort of nodding in agreement. Maybe we should just go have a rest. Maybe you're tired, Nix. It's been a long journey. I'm so tired. Maybe you're not up to your normal performing standards.
01:17:47
Speaker
and Anyone want to... Anyone want to fly over there? I've got this for a bit and I don't know how to turn it off. Seth puts his hand up. ah Cool.
01:17:59
Speaker
Come here, Seth. Goes in for a cuddle. And then ah you're here in the depths of your ear. I really don't know what I'm doing here.
01:18:15
Speaker
And Seth, now you sprout wings. Is that what you mean? are you carrying him? I'm carrying him. Oh, I see. I'm not casting fly as well. I thought you were a casting fly again. No, no, no. I want to save one more spell slot for later on.
01:18:31
Speaker
he he grips He grips on like around the waist and then not around the run he run the run the kind of chest and then also legs around the waist as well. Kind of just clinging on with his book hanging down and everything.
01:18:44
Speaker
It's just like magic. Is this the point where you start to slip and then you get to his legs and you take his trousers with you as you drop? Do you want to climb down me butt to face? If the DM will permit it.
01:18:57
Speaker
Like some weird scene in the in it. It's the story of Icarus. You two are flying in the hovering above the docks going towards the sun.
01:19:09
Speaker
Val, you watch as your beloved takes flight with another person. breath We fucking mid-air. Let's go! i ah Don't expect him to moan.
01:19:25
Speaker
Nyx can fly now? Apparently Nyx can fly now. And he can speak Draconic? ah Yes, quite well. as well o ah Can you speak Draconic, Alpha?
01:19:37
Speaker
Yes. He's been able to since the start. Oh, I found... I forget these things. remember when you were giving me evils across the sand and, you know, Alfa and Alfa?
01:19:48
Speaker
That was after you burned that person that turned out to be able to help us a couple of days later. It was really useful. Yes, but after you brought up the person who attacked us, get away. we don't need to bring a whole... And then she got killed by the Krishker, apparently.
01:20:02
Speaker
Did she? Yeah, we got told, and he sort of looked around, we were told at the meeting that She got killed by as a traitor, I believe. Yes.
01:20:17
Speaker
You're pretty heavy. seth's i might have to put you down. oh you're loving it. Ah, nice. Are these guys like 60, 120 feet up just like struggling in the air? How long does this spell last, Ian? 10 minutes.
01:20:36
Speaker
But Nyx don't know that. I can show you the world. Has it been changed to 10 minutes now? Seth, as you're not having to concentrate on flying, Nyx, you're having to work quite hard because you're carrying weight and also now...
01:20:51
Speaker
dealing with an extra set of limbs, trying to keep you both afloat, aloft, a flight, a flight. Let's go with that. So if you're looking around the landscape and you're you're able to sort of see the inside and so town, really, from this perspective, you see the far to the east of the the town border, the the lighthouse to the south, very far in the south at this point, you can just see this faintest little brown speck on the horizon there that looks to be ah a dust, a sandstorm in the desert.
A Hot Wind's Ominous Sign
01:21:20
Speaker
And you look out northward towards the bay, you're just sort of taking this whole scope in. And you just feel an entire change in the wind, like unnaturally so.
01:21:36
Speaker
There was this cool sea breeze that was coming consistently from the north, but slowly. You see on the ripple, on the top of that seawater, a big gust pulling all of that air towards you, towards from from a northern breeze to the south, but but in a real gale, in a real forceful blow.
01:22:00
Speaker
And it has this heat with it, this extreme heat. And it surprises you because air coming off the sea should be cool, but this is hot. Hot like fire.
01:22:11
Speaker
As you try and just process what that might look like, Bal, you fall to your knees for a second. You lose your balance.
01:22:22
Speaker
You sort of have grip onto alpha to stabilize yourself.
01:22:30
Speaker
You stand back up again. but you Your heart is racing and sort of having a mixture of palpitations and and chest pain, but that subsides. That's where we're going to end this week's episode. Fellowship of the Tabletop, Bellum Draconis.
01:22:52
Speaker
Fucking hell. Best of life. I think I know what it is. Let's not stop there. I think it was a mini stroke. And what we have to look for, lads, are the signs of this stuff. Yes, and call... Bal, can you raise your arms?
01:23:06
Speaker
you Can you... Is your speech slurred? Is it toast?
01:23:12
Speaker
Burned up Chris Graf. o I smell burned flesh. Oh, donkey. It's a dragon. We're about to get attacked by a dragon. don't tough You don't know that. Now you've said it, Danny's going to change it.
01:23:24
Speaker
We're not going to be attacked by a dragon. It's a great idea. yeah link tostein This idea of heat washing off of the sea. i couldn Thank you for tuning in. Making us party
