um Musically and lyrically, the album explores themes of isolation, severe drug addiction, loneliness, and the struggle to connect with the outside world.

The record captures the feeling of living in a self-imposed prison of one's own vices and flaws. um The title Jar Flies refers to a childhood science experiment conducted by guitarist Jerry Cantrell. The police flies into two jars, one overfed, one underfed.

The overfed flies multiplied rapidly, but eventually died from overcrowding while the underfed ones survived much longer. The band uses this as a metaphor for humanity's self-destructive tendencies, and I totally feel like I did that in grade school or some kind of weird like experiment thing.
