00:00:54
Speaker
Hey, joining us from St. Louis Park, Minnesota, the Dirty Bird himself, it's Scott Canham.
00:01:03
Speaker
I have a song. so a sound effect, a very magical sound effect, Scott. Yes. That's your match lovely. Hello.
00:01:16
Speaker
Hey, Scott, tell the people at home who, you know, who you are, where you're from, why you're here. ah i don't know why I'm here.
00:01:29
Speaker
I... i
00:01:39
Speaker
Some of you may remember me from the lovely town of Chaska, ah you know, where we went to school and all that lovely stuff. ah Currently living in St. Louis Park and loving it.
00:01:53
Speaker
um Also, I don't like change. So Minnesota is is the place for me. You know, Minnesota is one of the states I'd definitely move to, Scott. No one blames you here for sticking around.

Minnesota's Lunar Eclipse Chat

00:02:09
Speaker
Jeff, yeah would you move back to Minnesota? Probably. Um, there's a, uh, lunar eclipse tonight. don't know if you guys knew that, but in the east. So I was looking at Minnesota, uh, before the recording.
00:02:23
Speaker
Cause Minnesota is just east of me.
00:02:28
Speaker
Thanks, Jeff. Look to the east. Yeah. What time? Look to the east. What time of it is the eclipse? Central 1158 Central we got a central or is it 1158 for everybody all us are something makes sense yeah we're not gonna I'm not gonna get this posted before then how will people know Jeffrey
00:02:56
Speaker
how will people every night everyone go outside look at the moon at 1158 What day is it? not Thursday, is day March 13th. Thanks for joining

Living in St. Louis Park

00:03:07
Speaker
us. Scott, you probably know it's probably on the on the, you know, welcome to St. Louis Park sign.
00:03:13
Speaker
I was born there. Right. It probably says the home of Andy Franzine, born and raised in Texas. that is yes I was wondering if it was the same Andy Franzine that I went to school with.
00:03:28
Speaker
It's good to know. fifty It's confusing. But that's about all I know about St. Louis Park. Tell us, what's the best best three things about SLP?
00:03:41
Speaker
Um, well, if I'm bri being practical, it's like right by Minneapolis. And so that's where I work. That's where everything fun happens.
00:03:52
Speaker
Um, so yeah, that's great. Um, Give me one nightlife thing to do there. There's not a lot of that. Is there bowling? ah Yes. l There is Park Tavern. That's a really good bowling alley. The people like Park Tavern. Yes.
00:04:13
Speaker
It's a well-known establishment. um okay And then I'm here. Dude, that's a great reason. Great reason. Is it easy to get to the city and back? Is there a light rail or something? The light rail will be there soon, actually. they're building the The one that goes all the way up to Prairie goes through.
00:04:36
Speaker
Not near me, which is disappointing. It's on the other end. um But you would but to drive there and then jump on the road? Yep. And then before COVID killed buses, you could bus there.
00:04:51
Speaker
But they stopped doing that as conveniently as it was done before. Was that the Southwest bus line or was that something else? ah No, that was Metro Transit. It was close enough to be Metro Transit proper.
00:05:05
Speaker
okay Okay. How close to the 394 tunnel are you?
00:05:12
Speaker
The, the 94, three nights, the hellscape. yeah Um, that's, I mean, that that's just like six. Yeah. Well, six miles down the road. It's close, but yeah, the worst part of the twin city, journey the worst.
00:05:30
Speaker
Definitely. Well, Scott, thanks for joining us for the show. I'll answer that second question. Jeff, you can help me too.

Scott's Fantasy Football Journey

00:05:36
Speaker
We have Scott here as another CHS alumni, as Scott already mentioned.
00:05:42
Speaker
Scott, you're also, correct me if I'm wrong, but somewhat of a fantasy football enthusiast. uh i am yes i've been i didn't really play it um until work and there was a work league and then i was like hey this is this is fun um and then i became the commissioner of that league when the old commissioner lost all the money um and everyone's money yeah yeah so then he was like i don't want to do this anymore and i'm like i guess i'll do it um so shouldn't have tried on red It was more of a, like, it was in his desk one day and then it was not in his desk the next day type of thing. And then this we don't really know what happened. He took the money in cash?
00:06:30
Speaker
Well, that's so that, I mean, this is, I've been at this job for 20 years. So, uh, PayPal was maybe the only thing back, back then that we could have, now well, actually maybe league safe. I don't know. There's some, some of those things, but you know, we didn't have the Venmos and the cash apps and such.
00:06:49
Speaker
Was your first draft in person on with a big whiteboard? ah Not with a whiteboard, but there used to be an old Chicago in downtown Minneapolis. and Yeah. And they had like draft fantasy football draft specials and they had a huge basement. So we would just go down there and get pictures of beer and pizza and pay like $10 each and spend hours doing it.
00:07:13
Speaker
So that was pretty great. But you'd be doing it like, yeah, we all had paper. All had paper. Yeah. and someone was like entering into pics on a computer while they're doing it And yeah, have to record them like officially.
00:07:24
Speaker
You weren't using like electronic cheat sheets. Like no one had like a multiple PDFs that they were just browsing through. Like you had to bring your printed out. Right. Yeah. you're You're printed out rankings and you know you you pick the guy you want to follow and that's it.
00:07:42
Speaker
so you Do you use a timer? Were people on the clock? i I mean, more of a hurry up. It wasn't official. Because we didn't have all night. Yeah.
00:07:54
Speaker
yeah As we all got older, like the amount of time that that you had, like our tolerance got... Shorter. Because back then we were just eating pizza and drinking beer. so it was, yeah.
00:08:09
Speaker
Now it's like I got to go to dinner and sleep because I'm old.
00:08:14
Speaker
I feel that. I'm going to have dinner and go to sleep right after this recording. So you're I'd call you an OG, Scott, because I never drafted like that. Jeff, did you ever draft fantasy football like that?
00:08:27
Speaker
um Okay, so I played it one time through the Star Tribune, through the newspaper. And I paid $150 to play with 11 other people that I never met.
00:08:42
Speaker
And we had to mail things to the Star Tribune. And then to like waiver pickups, there was a phone number you had to call. No way. That's wild.
00:08:55
Speaker
And you only did it one season?

Jeff's Old-School Fantasy Football Experience

00:08:56
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, my parents were like, this is fucking stupid. My mom was was not into it. She was like, so you have to call Minneapolis on Sunday nights to pick up and drop, you know, or whatever day. you know, it wasn't Sunday nights. It was like Saturday night.
00:09:18
Speaker
No. And I like insisted that my parents get the Star Tribune subscription so I could look at the sports section and see who was injured.
00:09:31
Speaker
So I could amend my roster via phone call. How did you know who was available for pick-up? You had to write everything down. Like they mailed after the draft, they mailed us out like everyone's rosters.
00:09:48
Speaker
Okay. And then anyone that wasn't on a roster could theoretically be picked up. And if you called in did you get instant confirmation?
00:09:59
Speaker
No, you no, you you left a voicemail.
00:10:05
Speaker
And then on Monday, they mailed out who... Like, you had to be ahead of this multiple days. And, yeah. the But there was only, like, Sunday, Monday football. There wasn't, you know, football 14 days a week.
00:10:21
Speaker
Wow. Right. Yeah. That helps. Yeah. My uncle, my uncle did it too. And I thought that I would like, he made it seem like we were going to be in the same league together.
00:10:31
Speaker
um and then, uh, you just randomly get put in a league. And so my parents were like less into that too then. Cause. Oh, But like, but like you didn't interact with them at all. No. Right. The only person I interacted with was, uh, the, the person that you called and left your voicemail for.
00:10:51
Speaker
And like, they just like mailed me stuff. Like they probably assumed I was, you know, 20 or, you know, not, not 12 or whatever. i
00:11:02
Speaker
That's great. Wow. If Scott's an OG, then you're a, you're just a G. Yeah. I was in fifth grade. That's pretty hardcore. Yeah.
00:11:13
Speaker
I don't think I would have been able to do it. i haven't I didn't play before apps and computerized online drafting.
00:11:25
Speaker
But it sounds good. but scott Scott's way sounds good. Justin sounds insane. before i mean think I think I took 9 out of 12 teams. oh That probably also was part of why my parents were like, yeah, that wasn't really worth it.
00:11:41
Speaker
Yeah. and it was a hundred and fifty dollars you know like in 1990 that's that's a lot yeah like my work league today we pay we play for thirty dollars so uh can we mute that jeff yeah that yeah no yeah never mind never mind uh three thousand dollars
00:12:11
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. No, we, know, we've, we've gone up a bit. Um, we're, we're at 40 right now.
00:12:23
Speaker
Thank you, Jeff. Yeah, no problem. Just going to bleep out every dollar that we save for the rest of the show. Yeah. You got a few buttons in front of you. I think.
00:12:35
Speaker
Yeah. That's the fun button. Um, so I think we're officially in the questions and comments section, Jeff. Yeah. Uh, mostly just asking Scott more about his, his fantasy life. Yeah, we do have voice, and it is a question, so I can play it.
00:12:58
Speaker
Yeah, I'm just sitting around and listening to the independent of season awards and, draft lottery episode, and, uh,
00:13:09
Speaker
Andy's currently shuffling cards. And Jeff, you commented how cool the cards look. And I was just wondering if, uh, Andy used naked lady cards because, uh, that's what I thought of when you said that the cards are pretty special. So anyways, all I have is missing.
00:13:34
Speaker
Thank you, Matt. Um,
00:13:39
Speaker
Jeff, did you, I just finished the week 18, the awards season wrap-up episode. I just finished listening to it on Spotify or whatever. where Where can people find the video portion of that final show?
00:13:57
Speaker
We posted it there. Which channel, Jeffrey? Probably the podcast channel. I don't have the Discord open right now. Hey, Matt, go to the Discord, find the podcast channel, and help yourself to all the special playing card ogling you want to do.
00:14:17
Speaker
I'm not going to answer your question, even though we typically answer every Q&C in this portion of the channel. I hope that's come later, and I never posted it. LAUGHTER
00:14:31
Speaker
Well, we appreciate you calling yourself out here, Jeff. That's that's one of the hallmarks of the You Like That fantasy, league-specific fantasy football league podcast show. Scott, we always call ourselves out on our, or we call each other out, depending on who discovers the bullshit.
00:14:51
Speaker
um Next question for Scott. Scott, how long have you been the commissioner of your league? a That's a great question. this a ballpark?
00:15:01
Speaker
this Yeah, probably probably about like 15 years, maybe. Maybe 10 to 15. Spit take. What are you saying, Jim? Oh, I was wondering if we were in five questions or if we were still doing questions.
00:15:12
Speaker
<unk>re We're still in Qs and Cs. Don't worry. I don't want โ€“ I'm not going to skip the minute. No, sir.
00:15:21
Speaker
Yeah. We need to score same thing. That's what want to know. Oh, ah appreciate that. Yeah, there's going to be point tallies later, Scott. Look out.
00:15:32
Speaker
Yeah. 15 years. I also inherited this league. You might say I was just too annoying for the previous commissioner who bailed.
00:15:46
Speaker
You know, we all have our regrets. That's one of mine. But I've tried to be less annoying as the years have gone on, though. I always change the rules for the next season to benefit myself from the previous season.
00:16:00
Speaker
I like that. It just doesn't. I support that. Thank you. Yeah, of course. Yeah. you You have vision. Yes. That's why you've held the chair 15 years or so.
00:16:11
Speaker
Yeah. Um, and and maybe I'm not the only one that stuck around that long too. So it's a work league. Yeah. Yeah. So it's, it's somewhat shifting or is everybody there for 20 years? There are some people that have been there for, for almost as long as I have. Um, but it it generally shifts a little bit. Um, so and we've, it's really changed a lot too, because we've had like,
00:16:38
Speaker
100 people in our office or like right now we have like 30 people in our office. So yeah, like at one point we had a 16 person league and that was the worst fantasy football experience in my life.
00:16:52
Speaker
Because there's literally nobody to play with. um and yeah so and then we we had i think 16 players at one point that or that wanted to play and we split it up into two leagues of like eight for a couple of years that you commished both yeah i mean it was like each league ran the same and it was like a kind of like a fake like relegation system so you know one One was like the Premier League and you can have bragging rights. and um Same amount of like payouts and everything like that, though. because
00:17:27
Speaker
Yeah, it makes it more fun. but Two seasons ago, we threatened to relegate someone to the sidelines for an entire season so that we could include more people in the league like overall.

Managing League Sizes and Relegation

00:17:39
Speaker
Yeah, it wasn't crickets, Jeff. We got we got backlash. We did get backlash. Straight up. People weren't into it. They weren't feeling it, so that's why.
00:17:52
Speaker
we would We just went from 12 to 14, and it's been difficult, but we can talk about that in the five questions section. Jeff, any more Qs and Cs for our guest? um I mean, I'm sure I could come up with some, but I didn't write you down. i'm sorry. i didn't write me down.
00:18:10
Speaker
Hey, Scott, now's a portion of our show where we spend one minute on the Vikings. We call this the Mjolnir Minute.
00:18:22
Speaker
Start the timer. Okay, Andy. Free agency started ah yesterday or two days ago. i don't even know now. It is eclipse day, so someone can check up on that one later.
00:18:35
Speaker
The Vikings have been busy. They've signed Jonathan Allen for $51 million, years. Will Fry for $88 million five years. will fry for eighty eight million dollars in five years Javon Hargrave for two years at 30 million.
00:18:50
Speaker
They re-signed Aaron Jones, two years, 20 million. They signed Theo Jackson, the super safety, two years and 12.615 million. Ryan Kelly, Matt Max's favorite center, two years and 18 million.
00:19:05
Speaker
Brian Murphy resigned three for 54. Justin School resigned, but no one knows how much for yet. Harrison Smith resigned for one year at 10.25.
00:19:16
Speaker
Trevere Thomas, a free agent, has signed but has undisclosed. And Ryan Wright re resigned for one year at $1.75 million. dollars Thank you, Jeffrey.
00:19:29
Speaker
Scott, who's going to be the Vikings quarterback this season? I believe it's going to be Aaron Rodgers. You heard it first. You heard it first.
00:19:40
Speaker
No. i That would be... It's got to be JJ, right? do you is Is that you want or who you think? In your heart of heart, who do you think?
00:19:51
Speaker
Who do you think in your heart? I think it would be JJ. I think would be JJ. No?
00:20:02
Speaker
Is I wrong? Are we not JJ's? No, no, that wasn't the wrong sound effect. That was just bleeping out your answer. That'll be getting those who's good. Good, good. And that's been the Mjolnir Minute.
00:20:19
Speaker
ah The mouse. The mouse got away from you there, guys. Scott, welcome to the next section of our show. This is the part of the show that people in the league, out of the league, in the country, out of the country tune into week in and week out.
00:20:36
Speaker
They tune in to hear very special segment. I have questions. I have questions. Yes. Welcome to a special off season, episode of five questions where Jeff has cooked up special five questions just for you, Scott.
00:20:58
Speaker
These, those of you listening at home, these are different five questions than, uh, we asked during the regular season. Cause during the regular season, you give everyone the same five questions. So since we're between seasons right now, we had to come up with a new question, you know, set of questions.
00:21:14
Speaker
But Scott, there are, we will be scoring you on these five questions. All right. All right. Um, and there, there are, we call it five questions, but we have six. So if you get a question that you just don't feel like you can answer, you can pass.
00:21:31
Speaker
Okay. okay Andy, you want to start or do you want me to start?

Vikings' Best Free Agent Signings

00:21:36
Speaker
I can start. Hey, Scott, what's the best Vikings free agent signing of all time? Oh boy.
00:21:42
Speaker
um
00:21:45
Speaker
hard because it's like free agent. Like who, you know, I, I didn't really think into that. I don't really. Yeah. I mean, you can google is answer there's, there's Brett Favre, right?
00:21:56
Speaker
right Yeah. Um, he almost took us all the way. um yeah. And then he took welfare checks.
00:22:06
Speaker
That's true. ah forgot about that. Uh, I won't pick him, um, specifically because of that. Um, I don't know. I don't follow, like, it's hard. I don't follow the free agent signings as as well as I should. Hey, we'll take Brett Favre. That got us as close as we've seen in our lifetimes.
00:22:27
Speaker
I'll give it to him. Okay. Correct. Correct. Correct. Correct
00:22:37
Speaker
but also would have taken steve hutchinson yeah yeah somewhat more or less because of the poison bill The Vikings signed him from the Seattle Seahawks with a stipulation in the contract that if he signed agent contract in Seattle, the entire contract would be guaranteed.
00:22:57
Speaker
So because he was ah he was a restricted free agent. And so if Seattle matched the contract, his entire deal would become guaranteed. Wow.
00:23:08
Speaker
Seattle did not sign the contract. Wow. was it they they They got one of our wide receivers like a year or two later. Was it Burleson or Sidney Rice? I can't remember.
00:23:19
Speaker
It's one of those guys like in that time era.
00:23:26
Speaker
Scott, Vikings draft pick of all time. All time is really hard for me. Um, cause my memory is awful. Um, recent, I mean, Justin Jefferson right now is obviously, you know, stellar.
00:23:44
Speaker
Um,
00:23:48
Speaker
yeah, that's, there's no, I think I'm going to rely on it. Like I'm a recent, I'm a recent guy. final answer Correct. Correct. Correct.
00:24:01
Speaker
Scott i would have also taken Randy Moss just for that. Yeah. it's going home For bonus points, can anyone in your family do the gritty? um My son, Everett, he's he's seven. He's been working on that.
00:24:17
Speaker
See? He's got it down. Randy Moss's best dance move was mooning the crowd. You're also pretty good. But not the best thing to have your son emulate.
00:24:31
Speaker
True. True. My son, we recently watched Mr. Bean for the first time ever. And it was an episode where Mr. Bean, for some reason or another, naked.
00:24:44
Speaker
And he covers his private area with his hand. You know? And my son, Anders, re-enacts that scene once or twice a week now.
00:25:00
Speaker
Wow, you got to preview even a Mr. Bean episode before you show it to your kids. What is the world coming to? Hey, ah Scott, what's your favorite spring break destination?

Spring Break Preferences: Seattle vs. Sun

00:25:13
Speaker
um
00:25:16
Speaker
We don't go warm places, so I might not pick a correct one. We'll let Jeff be the judge. Yeah, last year we went up to north Shore, Lake Superior, and it's...
00:25:29
Speaker
rained ice on us the whole time. um So that's probably not a good one. um see I would say I'm big fan of Seattle, though. We've gone there a number of times. so Sorry, I'm not a warm guy. I'm not a warm warm weather beach guy.
00:25:48
Speaker
We have a lot of PNC representation in the Fantasy Football League. I have a question, Jeff. Yeah. PNC.
00:25:59
Speaker
PNC. i didn't mean fiency ended up But I wrote down PNC for some reason. When I Googled it after saying the words. Yeah, it's a baseball game in Pittsburgh.
00:26:11
Speaker
It's a bank. Yeah. yeah Right? Yeah. PNC Bank. buts Yeah, I'm not in the bank. Pittsburgh National Capital or something? place It's 9 p.m. I'm not in the bank.
00:26:22
Speaker
Yes. But I was going to ask you offline. I'm glad we brought this up. what does scott Was Scott right or wrong about spring break? Yeah, I mean Seattle's tough for spring break. Sorry, Scott.
00:26:36
Speaker
yeah' No, God! No, God, please, no! No! No! All
00:26:47
Speaker
right, all right. Scott. Yes.
00:26:54
Speaker
Movie of the year to watch.
00:26:59
Speaker
So I think I meant, like when I was writing this, I was thinking maybe a movie you've seen in the last year that everyone should watch. ah Okay. and Not necessarily a dark movie, but just a movie that everyone should watch.
00:27:10
Speaker
um The one that stood out for me that I've watched in the last year, um besides Piglet or Pooh, the Winnie the Pooh horror movies, would be Hundreds of Beavers.
00:27:27
Speaker
I think it's like a year or two old, but it's awesome. I just watched that like six months ago
00:27:35
Speaker
hundreds of viewers yeah jeff i will say that out of the blue brian brownley recommended this to my wife and i very recently scott yeah correct correct correct i didn't mean to cut you off scott no no that's good it's it's super fun it's like a weird like trippy like almost like looney tune-esque slapstick kind of old western setting it's amazon right yeah i think it's streaming on amazon right now yeah if you're a prime subscriber which no one should be but we are so there it is check out hundreds of beavers
00:28:24
Speaker
Scott, um question number five is a two-parter.

Current Fantasy Football League Dynamics

00:28:28
Speaker
What kind of fantasy football do you currently play? ah
00:28:35
Speaker
It's half PPR, 10-person league right now, redraft every year.
00:28:44
Speaker
I've never done the, whatchamacallit, the, where you keep your team. Keeper? Keeper? That's the word. ah Keeper.
00:28:55
Speaker
Yeah. Dynasty. Dynasty. Yeah. No, yeah. So it's yeah pretty standard. ah
00:29:03
Speaker
What since since ah have you ever had someone i mean, when when people leave the job who are going leave, is it just like understood that they're no longer going to leave?
00:29:15
Speaker
ah Kind of. It is not really. Sometimes we. we um Like for a little bit, our old CTO was in the league.
00:29:27
Speaker
So he left and I was like, well, it'd be great to keep this connection, but rules are rules. um yeah And yeah, there was there was a time when we didn't have, we did let a couple of people who left stay just because we didn't have the interest to keep the team league full. But as soon as there was more, then it's kick you out.
00:29:47
Speaker
Everyone understands. It's fine. Yeah, do you just boot them from the Discord channel or how do you find out? Yeah, no, they just get kicked off from the ESPN. It's an ESPN leak. So we just go and delete them and reassign owner.
00:30:05
Speaker
you guys have your own Discord server? No, since it's work, we have so it's Slack. Yeah. So, yeah. So you probably keep it, the smack talk, relatively tame.
00:30:18
Speaker
Yeah. Definitely within Slack. Slack talk. Most of it's in office smack talk. Like, in person. Right. Okay. That's good. Do you do any median score, or is it head-to-head? or No. Man, I wanted to do median score last year because I...
00:30:41
Speaker
yeah It would have favored me. Yes. You think median score should just be around all the time. Yeah, no, it's it seems like a really great thing.
00:30:52
Speaker
But no, it's just straight up matchup. And we only like only let four teams go to the playoffs. um Yeah, and we've talked about expanding that to six and and going a little extra weak, but it also makes a little more cutthroat, which is kind of...
00:31:09
Speaker
But it's a 10-team league. Even when we were 12, we only had four. but Yeah,
00:31:17
Speaker
it's yeah I don't know. It's kind one of those things where it's like โ€“ Iron Fist. Yeah, I mean, if you have โ€“ If you don't have a winning record, you don't deserve playoffs.
00:31:30
Speaker
Jeffrey would agree with you.
00:31:39
Speaker
For some backstory, Scott, the only team to make it into playoffs this year with a losing record ended up winning the whole enchilada. So we all agree with you that you don't deserve to be there.
00:31:53
Speaker
Was that either of you? No. No. Okay. Okay. Do we look like winners? No, um no. no
00:32:05
Speaker
We have won in the past. Yes. Ten years ago, I won. do Do you have your ring, Andy? No, I wish I did. packed it already.
00:32:18
Speaker
Safekeeping. Did we score this one yet? I'm sorry. I can't remember if we did. If we did, it here. Correct. Correct. Correct.
00:32:30
Speaker
Okay, Scott, so you've already answered five questions for four points. Yes. you have the one more question. Do you want to max your five points? You can answer the question. You can pass. It's your choice. Do you think our league should make any rule changes?
00:32:44
Speaker
just Just like any change? I mean, it's a pretty horrible question, you can just answer. Yes, yes. You should make some changes. Correct. Correct. Correct.
00:32:59
Speaker
Do you have any good suggestions, Scott? Great job. Great job, Scott. Are you considering any changes for your league next year? Other than median score. the I want to punish... i don't know It's a weird ESPN thing, I think, where like...
00:33:16
Speaker
They punish um missed field goals, but not missed extra points, which seems odd. I know it's not a lot, but you know you ever every now and then you have those like one or two points.
00:33:31
Speaker
score differentials but it always felt weird to me that like you miss because we also do bonus points on like a if it's a 50 plus yard field goal at six points um if you miss that it's minus one so it's like a seven point swing but if you miss an extra point It's just like... Minus five.
00:33:53
Speaker
Yeah. It's nothing right now. Right. so I get you. It's like fractional, like minus a quarter point. Yeah. Just a little. Yeah. Make those kickoff scores a little more interesting.
00:34:07
Speaker
But don't miss the extra points. Yeah. I guess also people have expressed interest in doing six teams in the playoffs, but we'll see about that.
00:34:21
Speaker
Do you think you'll be at 10 or 12 next year? um I want to say 10 still.
00:34:29
Speaker
but so Does it have the option of a consolation bracket? Have you ever had one of those? um We have not. Not for any price.
00:34:39
Speaker
Okay.
00:34:41
Speaker
Great job, Scott. I think think you got a perfect five out of six. Five out of five. Five out of five. Five out of five. a worst
00:34:55
Speaker
Jeff, do we have any more voicemails, texts, or callers today? I played the voicemail already. I used our one. Scott, Jeff and I have been running this league for, I don't know, over five years.
00:35:11
Speaker
Do you got any questions for us? ah
00:35:17
Speaker
What? So is it a keeper league? or is our dynasty Scott yeah um we did start keepers a couple years ago yeah this year we're uh we're gonna we're gonna up it but we had to announce it early so we've left um going forward people will have the option of keeping two players and Jeff can come in see and tell you more one one player yep from there on it's two two but it needs to be announced before the draft jeff yeah we do a snake draft and to keep a player you have to give up two rounds higher than you drafted so like if you draft him in the fifth you got to give up a third that sort of thing so it is it is tough and looking at my roster i'm not going to keep i'm probably not going to keep anybody because i had no
00:36:11
Speaker
Great. Great. my My best player was taken in the first round, so I can't even keep him. Yeah. And the other the other thing is, um up until now, you've had to keep the person on your roster for the entire season.
00:36:25
Speaker
And we're contemplating changing the rule to someone has to keep them on roster. you know So like if if Andy drafted someone in the third round and and traded them to me and they were never on the waiver wire, I could keep them for a first.
00:36:40
Speaker
um okay We haven't decided that yet. I don't know, Jeff. i I just finished listening to the last season. i I remember explicitly saying I defer to you and you said, let's do it. So I think that's word locked in.
00:36:54
Speaker
We just have to remind everybody, right? But that does give some extra weight to traits because if you know, but but we have to keep good record.
00:37:05
Speaker
But if you know, if this guy keeps popping off, I can have him again next year. That makes it all the more. interesting doesn't it yeah i mistakenly thought that that was already the rule so i traded for a guy uh had been on someone's roster for the entire season and uh was injured and so the person who had them was more than willing to trade them to me and uh that that was a mistake on my
00:37:39
Speaker
uh has it how have you this might get a little too personal but have you have you done better or worse since making it a keeper league you yourself it hasn't helped me yeah but but that's no reason to change it
00:38:03
Speaker
one Another thing we're bringing back, I think, is the ability to trade draft picks.

Trading Draft Picks and Keeper Leagues

00:38:12
Speaker
So if your season is going the wrong way, you can start dumping players for...
00:38:20
Speaker
you know for for better picks next year. and that That was part of it. Jeff ended up one year with half his picks in the last three rounds or something like that. So he was very he was very keen on upping the number of keepers at that time because he won the season where he mortgaged the future for the present.
00:38:43
Speaker
And then, right, he had all these late But, hey, he got victory. Because you it. Yeah. And he got Sam Laporta for the rest of his career.
00:38:55
Speaker
If I want to keep him, yeah. um Yeah, no, I yeah i had ah had three picks in the last round. And so I i was taking all these, like, super flyers, you know, hoping that, like, one or two of them would hit. And then I would have, you know, crazy low-priced keepers for a long time.
00:39:17
Speaker
Right. But yeah, the Samuel Porter one didn't pay off for me this year. Great question, Scott. Thanks for thanks for joining this episode.
