Fantasy Playoff Upsets and Round Highlights

00:00:00
Speaker
but episode for you this this week Andy and I are both doing some traveling so we're not around um so the d NFL decided not to to stop playing football for the holidays but whatever ah this past week in the second round of the playoffs we had two upsets the eighth seed pure shit hook shit house took down the fifth seed cuz nug Josh Allen came back down to earth and scored under 20 points The rest of Zou's teams couldn't handle the shithouseery. I did like that Matt played Khalil Shakur in case Allen went off with a tight with a bunch of touchdowns to him. Zou left fewer than eight points on the bench so there was no way for him to overcome the 26 plus point margin. Matt left about the same amount of points on the bench with the Shakur over DJ Moore play.
00:00:48
Speaker
On the other side of the championship bracket, the 501st and their 7th seed knocked off the Lance car Corporal Underground alloy in a good one decided by 15.4 points. Jameson Williams, Keenan Allen, and Jake Elliott all had their highest outputs of the season. Somehow Atlanta's defense Outdid the previous week's 23.9 with a 25.3 pointer, but the Ken Walker, the third injury, was too much for Thunker to overcome. Walker put up 9.9 points, but if he'd been healthy, he it it'd easily have been double that. He was running through the Vikes, I will. Strong weeks for Adam Thielen, T Higgins, Bijon Robinson, and Jalen Warren weren't strong enough to offset Kelsey in the monster week of the 501st.
00:01:35
Speaker
No game scheduled and what's my AJ again are showing out strong and the pick-pick placement tourney. Sadly for both of these teams they had scores that would have beat Kuznog or Shithousery. But that's the way the brackets broke this season. Steelhouse and the NBA both beat projections but didn't beat their foes this week.

Week 17 Showdown: 501st vs. Shithouse

00:01:54
Speaker
As I'm recording ah right now, week 17 is underway. 501st has the early projected lead over Shithouse. Game is underway. See Matt's kicker playing today. but Both teams have guys going Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. So while we are going to see a ton of football over the next six days, we will probably not know who won at all until Monday night.
00:02:17
Speaker
This is not the final episode of the season. Andy and I will be back next week to recap the championship results and to do the season long award show. Merry Christmas to you all. I've got a quick word from the commissioner and then our special guest episode.

League Dynamics: Future and Speculations

00:02:38
Speaker
The UVike that commissioner's office has no official stance on this year's championship matchup. We wish both teams the best and thank everyone for playing. On a personal level, my concern is for the fabric of this very league. Can it survive a three-time winner or another newcomer winning it all in their debut season? If I'm backing a horse in this race, does it really have to be Maxa?
00:03:00
Speaker
It's a blessing for the outcome to be completely out of my control. I can just sit back and watch through my fingers, like the latest horror film, or the British Office. Be good to each other, except Matt to Tim. Be brutal. Don't let him do this again. All of our hopes are riding on you. Andy out.

Introduction of John Ward: Fantasy Enthusiast

00:03:45
Speaker
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the you like that fantasy podcast. Not joining you from the Pacific Northwest. It is not you again from a hot like environment of Fargo, North Dakota actually coming in from my office today because of an electrical problem and frills and pipes. It's Jeff Mangan, he knows all the numbers from Japan. Hey, we've got a special special guest today. Someone that I found that's not in our league, that plays all kinds of fantasy sports, that knows all things about questions. He's coming to us from West 7th because it's the best non-chaska part of Minnesota. It's John Ward. Thank you for having me. I will dispute the chaska thing, but we'll we'll agree to disagree.
00:04:48
Speaker
Hey John, how are you doing today? I'm doing well. Maybe not quite as Hoth-like here, but pretty dang cold. Yeah, man. We clocked in this morning at 10 degrees, which was a 15 degree improvement over yesterday morning when I had to shovel a couple inches of snow from the driveway. So I'll take 10. John.
00:05:12
Speaker
So we have a 14 team fantasy league with primarily people from Chesca High School. We have three interlopers in our mitts. What, what kind of fantasy football do you play?

John Ward's Fantasy Leagues Experience

00:05:26
Speaker
I know you also play other fantasy sports, but yeah. So I play three, I play in three different leagues. um Two of them are 14 team leagues that have no keepers, 14 team leagues with no keepers.
00:05:37
Speaker
Yeah. So two 14 teams. Uh, and then the other one isn is a, is a 10 person that has no keepers as well. We do not, it's, it's it's so, um, you guys, it works out for you all cause you're like pretty tight knit. This is a very transient, uh, it's that doesn't stay very, um, consistent over the years. One's with, um, some work, work people that are from all across the country. One is with, um, some neighbors and a bunch of their friends and I don't know them hardly at all.
00:06:04
Speaker
And then the other one was like some people that I used to work with in politics and a couple of stragglers. So it's, print it's, I'm just, I'm not a huge, as, as I've gotten older, I'm not as big of a football fan, but I have kind of, kind of been dragged back into fantasy football and I do enjoy it. And so yeah, so no keepers in any leagues, um, which, uh, is
00:06:29
Speaker
It's hard. That's gotta to be hard. It's really hard. so So you have three teams, three leagues. if if you had If you got to keep one player from those three teams, who would you keep? Lamar Jackson. I was hoping you'd go with Justin Jefferson. but I don't have him. I don't got him. ah But Lamar Jackson's definitely, he's been by far my number one player in any of my leagues. um i got a couple bull like Jared Goff has been a random spike player like last week if I had played him in one of my leagues, I would have absolutely dominated, but I had him on the bench because I have Pat Holmes and Pat Holmes is not a very good fantasy player now. Not anymore. Like all of a sudden this year, he's decided he's going to ask the bed. Yeah. ah so to ah So how many leagues are you in the playoffs and have your power? All three. I was in league i was in all three. um I lost last week. i got i before Before you tell us, I got a quick message for you from our friend, Anders.
00:07:27
Speaker
Congratulations, you're in the playoffs. Thanks, Anders. Thanks, buddy. That's what i so I need that. I need that kind of emotional support. on the edge it Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It feels good. That's, that's, that's what he's here for for us. Good. Good. ah you'll get at it He'll emotionally support all of the adults in his life. He's, he's amazingly good at it. I mean, that's a demonstrated skill. I hope he continues it. Yeah. Okay. So three leagues, three playoffs, the first round last weekend started for all three of them are
00:07:57
Speaker
Yeah, for all three. And I had buys in two of the three um because I was in first or second place, I think in both. um And then in the other one, I was in third, but lost last week. um So I'm I kind of have uh, kind of abandoned that one a little bit. Um, I, I still like have a set lineup and everything, but I'm not going to like be super observant on it. So which, which league is that the friends from the disparate league? Yeah. The neighborhood plus some their friends. And it's not that I don't care. It's just that it's just like, now that I don't have a chance to win something, I if feel less invested.
00:08:33
Speaker
Well, I've been out in our league for at least five weeks, but I'm trying to stay. and Well, my team, my team has been awful. A lot of injuries or what's up.

Keeper Players: Regrets and Strategies

00:08:43
Speaker
Uh, I, I would blame the GM on that one. Um, you know, I, my keeper when I kept them made perfect sense to me, but, uh, You only have one keeper, you keep only one player. Yeah, one bo player. And who was it capped? Man, it's kind of, it feels silly. I kept Sam Laporta.
00:09:07
Speaker
I actually don't even know who that is. Yeah. He's the Lions tight end. Okay. Yeah. smelles Yeah. Okay. Yeah. He had, he had the the best tight end scoring season last year. ah Like he was the number one tight end and he was a rookie. Um, so I've, you know, I was like, well, I had him in the 15th round. And so the way we do keepers is each year you have to add two rounds to your, the position you kept him, you know, you drafted him.
00:09:36
Speaker
So I got Sam Laporta last year's number one tight end for a 13th round pick. So I was like, that's pretty that's pretty sick. Yeah, it's pretty solid. And I think he's going to come in somewhere in the neighborhood of tight end 15. So um o he's moved up to tight end 10.
00:09:56
Speaker
Well, because he probably had a really good week because golf threw for five, what, five or six touchdowns. And he probably caught at least one or two. Right. I mean, I think the the thing is, is that last year he was the number one option um because Amman was slightly injured in the second half. So he was just getting fed touchdowns right now. Now they have James, like James and William and James and William's targets are all all came from La Porta. Right. so Plus they got two running backs, Jameer and Montgomery. that does not but But now that they're all injured, he's putting up crazy stats and he's going to have the end of the season and look a lot better than he was. Well, and that's the thing is like the Lions, like they've been, you know, they won like what was it, 11 in a row or whatever before I lost last week. And it's like,
00:10:44
Speaker
they have like all their dudes are hurt. Like the, I don't think they have, as of last week, it was 15 guys on IR that were starters at the beginning of the season. That's why i I don't think they are going to do well in the playoffs. I think they just have lost too many guys. Like I would think about that 22 guys, starters, 15 of them are gone. Yeah. And they like, they build great depth and everything, but it's like,
00:11:08
Speaker
Eventually at some point your, your ability to replace and replenish work runs out. And I think they will now reach that. I think that they're going to lose. I think they're going to lose the number one seed of the bikes or the Eagles, one of the two, what ah either one. Um,

Fantasy League Traditions: The Toaster Ritual

00:11:22
Speaker
but okay. So, so we do a questions and answers, uh, segment every week, John. Yeah. And, uh, this week we got a question that you're going to have absolutely no way to answer.
00:11:33
Speaker
Um, so the last place team in our league gets a toaster that, uh, when it, it toasts the bread with a Vikings logo on it. Yeah. Yeah. You've told me that. Yeah. So, so right now the toaster is in Kamen's possession and he's, he's wondering if he should take it. He's going on a, I assume a Caribbean cruise.
00:11:56
Speaker
And so he's gonna try to bring it with him in his luggage. ah And his question is, is Caribbean toast a thing? Next week I find out. um so So do we think he should try to smuggle the toaster onto ah into the Caribbean islands?
00:12:13
Speaker
Well, okay. So like, what's the, what's the disadvantage of doing it or like attempting it? Is it like, is it illegal in some way? I mean, it's just, it's a, it's a normal sized toaster and that's going in your luggage. So like, it's like a, it's like a, it could be like a space issue.
00:12:28
Speaker
It could be a space tissue and then like you're going to have, you know, I mean, maybe Kamen's got a better toaster cleaning methodology than I do. But I would have toast crumbs all over my clothing unless I had some sort of like gigantic. Maybe maybe that's like maybe that's like his hook to like talk to people. It's like, oh, look at all those crumbs. Where'd they come from? Like, well, let me tell you.
00:12:51
Speaker
but that would I brought a toaster with him. And then, and then he's also, he's wondering from the, the, the larger group, if we should start, he says, desecrating the skullster with your signature in gear that you had the toaster kind of like the state. oh How long has your lead been going?
00:13:17
Speaker
Uh, we were trying to figure that out recently, at least 10 years, least 10. So probably it's somewhere between 10 and 15. So,

TV Shows as Litmus Tests

00:13:23
Speaker
yeah. I mean, would you go backwards and etch all of them in then? Cause if you're going to do it, you should go back in, in time and do it. It's true. Um, yeah, we probably would have to do that. We were trying to figure out all of the winners of the league this last week, Andy and I, and, um,
00:13:44
Speaker
that was more difficult than we thought it was going to be. Cause we have this year, this year, the winners, there's a new prize that we found that the winners are going to get. And so we're, we're, we're going to get, we're going to get everybody who's past winners.
00:14:00
Speaker
one of these awards too. So what is it? Are you allowed to tell? Uh, we're going to just drop it on the the winter this year. Okay. All right. But, uh, tell me off it. I would like to know off here then. I can give you a hint. It's your wedding ring. No, not mine. Yeah. I'm going to send out my wedding ring to everyone. ah Um, can you etch you like him? All right. I gotta tell you something. Everybody's name is etched on my ring now. I don't know what to tell you.
00:14:28
Speaker
ah I have to get a a larger ring Mart. yes yeah it the chamber iphone I got a bracelet. Small enough. I've got a bracelet now. Yeah. Yeah. So, so we're thinking about desecrating the, uh, I would say yes, but you have to go backwards.
00:14:46
Speaker
Yeah. But do we, do we, I mean, like I, I don't think we just like writing Sharpie. Like that's not going to last. No, maybe it is. Maybe, maybe not. Okay. Go ahead. I think it's gotta be, uh, like, uh, an engraver, you know, like, yeah. Could you do you know what you could do is like, you could get, get like, this might be a little weird, but like you could get like, uh,
00:15:07
Speaker
um, somebody to do an engraving, you know, like in a glass engraving, like of a piece of toast and then you could edge every year is on it every year. I mean, you'd have to get a probably a fairly big, and that might get kind of unwieldy and big and hard to ship because people would have to, people would have to like ship it back or have to find like a local glass engraver. That would be an added,
00:15:30
Speaker
Punishment to last place you have to etch in next year's loser Interesting interesting. I like I like where this is going John. Yeah. ah Yeah, it's you know spitball and was yeah yeah yeah Take that take that take that for what it's worth. So we normally we normally recap the Vikings game But since the Vikings game hasn't happened yet Um, oh sure we're gonna, we're gonna do like, we, we give ourselves one minute to talk about the Vikings. Okay. Uh, so, so I'm going to play our Vikings horn. And then we have, once the Vikings horn sounds, we have one minute to talk about how, how we think the Vikings are going to beat the the Seahawks. Are you ready? Go.
00:16:15
Speaker
All right. Well, I think like in past, I mean, Sam Darnold has played way above expectations and I think that's what needs to continue to happen. He needs to keep distributing the ball as as he has and um all that stuff. And just now that they have this ability to like throw the like with several receivers, they can just throw it across all across the place. I think That's all they're going to win. Their defense is fine. Um, but I think the offense is what's going to win them games coming in the, especially the next three games. I think, especially since, well, you're trying to keep to the Seahawks, but, uh, I think the Seahawks are kind of, uh, one of those teams that's, you know, they're hanging around, but you know, they're not like that good. I think if, if Gino Smith doesn't play, they have no chance, right? Yeah. Who's their backup? I don't even remember.
00:17:08
Speaker
I don't know either. That's a good question. So that's probably not a good time for that. Correct. All right. Go Vikes. so
00:17:17
Speaker
That's pretty good. Not bad. yeah Yeah. About a minute. I stumbled, I a little, but I feel all right. Well, you weren't prepped for that whatsoever. That's true. That was, that was, that was good work on the fly. Thank you. All right, John. So there's a reason why people listen to this podcast and it is for this following segment. Okay.
00:17:37
Speaker
Questions?
00:17:40
Speaker
is worst All right, John. so we have that also Is that also Blake Thomas? That's actually me. um We have ah six questions, but you can pass on one if you like. Pass on one. Okay. All right. So what is your favorite or ideal USA vacation spot? Now keep in mind, Andy is about to embark on a cross country expedition in an RV. And so the idea was we were giving him USA spots. Some people have thrown out Hawaii.
00:18:14
Speaker
He's not going to go there. It's probably not going to make it. He has been there, but he's not. Yeah, but he's probably going to not going to make it on this trip. Yeah. Um, uh, actually, so one place I would go is, uh, I went, my brother-in-law and my sister, they, uh, two, three years ago, they bought, um, they bought an ambulance, an old ambulance and turn it in. It's going to be longer than that, isn't it? Yeah, it's about two and a half, three years. It's not, it's as long as you think. Really? I thought it was like well before COVID.
00:18:39
Speaker
No, definitely not. um So they bought that and they've converted it into a RV and it or you know whatever you want to call it. And you know it's got like solar and water you know running water, electricity, heat, all that type of stuff. anyway so But when before he had gotten it a lot set, him and I went on a ah Southwest trip um down towards ah Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and that sort of thing. so My suggestion would to be go to either one or two places, Taos, New Mexico, or Moab, u Utah. Both are really good places for like, especially in the winter that's warmer, but there's still some, so you could you can hit up some like ah national parks in the area.
00:19:22
Speaker
or in like Taos, they have like hot springs around around there. I think that'd be super fun. um So that'd be one of the two, yeah Moab, for if you're doing it for like a cross country trip like that, in this and then you need a place you can just, you can literally stay on like the sides of roads or in like a Walmart parking lot or whatever, I think those would be good places to go. okay yeah i think I don't know, that wouldn't be my ideal thing for me, but I think for Andy's purposes, that would work.
00:19:48
Speaker
Yeah. Right. Well, I mean, cause you're by arches then. And I mean, yeah's just there's just so much cool stuff there. You got it. I feel like that's the kind of place you got to hit one time in your life, you know? So why not do it in a 30 plus foot RV? ah Yeah. I mean, like, i mean who, what, what makes switchbacks better than a longer vehicle. Right. And somebody makes it easy. Well, cause you get around the corners, like at a, at like where you're kind of straight for a little bit. I mean, at least half of the cars around the corner. Yeah, it's fine. Yeah. yeah And I think the truck part, I will say, unless you have a quick release, you know, lever on the RV.
00:20:25
Speaker
You're good. You're, you're, you're sad. Yeah. Well, and there's a lot less traffic there now. So it'd be even maybe a little, a little less scary anyway. Oh man. Um, what is your litmus test television show? So you sent these questions to me ahead of time and I had to really think about this one and I'm still not, I'm still not a hundred percent on it, but I would, I'm going to go to, there's one,
00:20:50
Speaker
got You got to boil it down to one. hand on one Okay. I get it. He wouldn't let you do two. Okay. That's fair. All right. Um, down to one, it's probably the Simpsons.

The Simpsons: Nostalgia and Critique

00:21:00
Speaker
I know that's kind of boring, no but it's true. Like seasons one through like, you know, two through eight, one through nine, somewhere in that range are just like,
00:21:09
Speaker
some of the best television of all time. And I even like, you know, I don't watch it much very often now that the newest, like all these like last 20 ish seasons or whatever. I know but that's, that's been the discussion on, on the podcast this season is like, so many people are like, it's the Simpsons. Cause if you can't get down with the Simpsons, you just don't understand me. And then, and then the followup is always like, okay, when was the last time you watched the Simpsons and we're all like, uh, 2005.
00:21:35
Speaker
Well, but so I have watched it fairly recently. Some of the new, new the the old episodes, I haven't watched any of the newer episodes, but I will say that like, oh yeah that's what I mean though. Like, yeah, yeah. I'm not going to go and like, I'll go watch season 31. No. Right. Yeah. I will say that, you know, I watched episodes of that inters, like the newer, like whatever you want to call it, news newer season interspersed here and there.
00:21:57
Speaker
And like even their but like quote unquote, like later episodes or bad episodes are better than like 98% of TV. Yeah. Well, I think, I think because of this question and because we're, we've been talking about it, I've been looking into the fact that like who's doing the voices now?
00:22:14
Speaker
you know because um because people have died that were like original voices and then other people have like gotten sick. So that's just that's interesting to me. you know it's like There's some new people that you would know that have filled in and done you know a couple seasons of thisra voice Well, and then like Hank Azaria stopped doing some of the voices because of cultural, you know, like, uh, poo and, um, his brother, I don't remember his brother's name, but like stuff like that. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I forgot. I forgot off your after first answer. So you get to these. I'm sorry. One second here. Correct. Correct. Correct. Correct. Correct. Correct.
00:22:56
Speaker
And that was for your vacation spot answer. And here's for your television answer. right. Do you have a guilty pleasure band or performer? So.
00:23:14
Speaker
It's a hard one. I had to go to the podcast performer that letter if I hear their clips like on reels or something like that, I listen. And then I'm always like, you know, hoping that Mario doesn't walk in.
00:23:29
Speaker
while I'm watching the Joe Rogan experience on Instagram reels. Wow. Yeah. Uh, okay. That's not where I thought this was going. Um, so I had to really think about this one. I get like, this was another tough one and I don't get this. It's like, this like balance between, is it a guilty pleasure or just a straight up pleasure? Yeah, right. But I really do. I really do enjoy, uh, like Carly Rae Jepsen.
00:23:56
Speaker
so of So the question there would be, if it's in the car, what is the state of the windows? Oh, good. um
00:24:10
Speaker
Assuming nice weather out. Assuming nice weather, okay. Perfect autumn day. Probably open. Yeah. Yeah. I feel good about it. And at the stop sign, you're not going volume down. You're keeping it. I keep volume. Yeah. The window might come up a little, but it would still be like... It'd still be audible. Yeah. So it's not, it's not, you're not really feeling guilty about it though. You're like, you're enjoying it. I'm enjoying it. But like, I liked the answer. I liked the answer, but yeah, it's tough. Oh God. No, God, please. No, no, no, no. I think, I think it's, I don't think it's guilty. That's all I'm saying. Yeah, I think you might be right. Um,
00:25:01
Speaker
Uh, I just, it's really hard, isn't it? Like, like, it is like we're older. We're not, we I don't feel guilty of all that kind of shit. Yeah, no, definitely not. mean did There are times when I've watched like, um,
00:25:15
Speaker
and maybe some reality TV where I'm just like, this is so stupid. Yeah, stuff like that. yeah Like I've watched like a, like I've watched an episode of like a, you know, housewives show and I'm like, yeah this is super under entertaining. And I feel like a, like, like an idiot for watching it. We've shared our ah Peacock login with so many people. Okay. Um, and, and why it watches, uh, the office, right? So she has like some, you know, some shows that she watches on Peacock all the time, right?
00:25:44
Speaker
And so every time she logs in, she's like, who is watching Below Decks on our account? And I'm like like, I don't even really know what that is. I know it's like a reality television show. I couldn't.
00:25:59
Speaker
I couldn't tell you. I have no. So yeah, I walked off and watched like probably some of the housewives shows and that's pretty guilty because it's like, it's super entertaining. It just feels like, yeah. So that's probably a better answer. Cause like Carly Rae Jepsen is somebody like I actually think it's pretty, it's pretty, it's pretty talented. Yeah. No. So, so like, yeah, the, the housewives, my brother was like really into that when he was in high school. That's how long the housewives have been on. sure And so like, I don't, I don't even know if I feel guilty about the housewives anymore. You know, it's just like,
00:26:30
Speaker
I just like, I feel like that' like that'd be like one thing where I feel like I should be spending my time doing something significantly better. So that's probably why. I'm only doing the housewives if I'm also cleaning the room that I'm in. Right. Yeah, maybe. But really I'm just watching. ah Do you have a favorite random social media wormhole? This is the one I'm going to pass on. I just, I like really thought about it and I i don't, I tend to not do that. So I, my answers would be pretty boring.
00:26:58
Speaker
my ah My answer was hoof trimming, like cow hoof trimming on any of those things. um Okay, surprising movie you've never seen.

John's Movie Blind Spots: Pulp Fiction and Blade Runner

00:27:11
Speaker
So I've seen this in parts, in small only in small parts, so I'm not going to claim it. I've never seen Pulp Fiction.
00:27:19
Speaker
deal So, um, that has been like, I have tried to watch it and and and starts and stops and never finished, not even close to finishing it. yeah Um, I will say, so my favorite podcast, and you probably know, this is a rewatchables on the ringer.
00:27:36
Speaker
And so I listened to those like religiously and owned, I listened to them several times and they did pulp fiction about two, three, four months ago and I had to skip it because they redid pulp fiction. No, they did not. This was the first time they did it. No, no, they they did it. They did it in the 1999 movies. It's only, you can only, they had that short run on Luminary on the rewatchables. Yeah. No, that was only 1999 movies and it's not for 1999. When's the pulp fiction from 94?
00:28:05
Speaker
Whoa, I swear they did it once before. No, because they kept talking about how it was like one of the ones that would end the feed. Oh, because they had Quinton on. So I just assumed that. They had Quinton on for a couple of episodes. of One was Dunkirk and one was Unstoppable. Okay. So he came on to like talk about like directors that he likes. So it was just for Nolan and Tony Scott.
00:28:27
Speaker
man. It's one of those movies where, uh, it's kind of long and nowadays if it was on, I would probably feel guilty that I'm, you know, spending that much time watching, you know, like, yeah, like I should be doing something else. I've seen this a few times.
00:28:49
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So um I am going to watch it at some point. My friend Sean, it was appalled that I had never seen it. So him and I are going to watch it at some point and then listen to this. It's two and a half hours long. Yeah. Like we did that for There where there Will Be Blood. Him and I, had met neither of us had seen it. No, I might have seen it. I don't remember. um One of us might have seen it or both of us it or both of us hadn't seen it or something. So we watched that and then we listened to the podcast. And so we're going to try to do that.
00:29:19
Speaker
What's the other, cause there will be blood was like, um, Oh my gosh. Who's the lead in that? Daniel Delos. Yeah. So then what's his, uh, train movie that he made? Frame movie. Yeah. Like it was like 19 something. It was like a date. Oh, uh, I'm not aware of that.
00:29:44
Speaker
It might be, that might be a pretty old one. I don't know it because I feel like I know his, work because I feel like I know his filmography pretty well and I don't, that doesn't sound familiar. Cause there will, there will be blood. Well, maybe it was just a movie that came out at the same time as there will be blood. Well, there was no country for old men that came out around that time. Uh, I don't know of a train movie that he was in. Yeah.
00:30:07
Speaker
I mean, there's, there's probably trains and there's probably trains in Lincoln. Right. Right. Uh, yeah, no, he's good. That's a, that's a good, there will be blood. Um, Pulp Fiction. Interesting. Interestingly enough, we have heard that one before. No, really? Yep. I was shocked. I thought that like based on the demographic of this, yeah this podcast, well, I thought I had a really solid one.
00:30:34
Speaker
And based on the fact that we used to, we used to have like these Friday movie nights at my church and Pulp Fiction got played numerous times because if you're going to watch so a movie in a church, you know, get away with it. Pulp Fiction seems like that's pretty fun. Yeah. It's like what you fire up, like Requiem for a Dream. Yeah, right. Well, we also watched basketball diaries. so very Yeah. So school got canceled because somebody called in a bomb threat. And so we went over to the church and watched basketball diaries. That sounds like not my favorite day of like having a school day. Horrible. It was after Columbine happened to God. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. We were cool kids. fair But I'm still giving you points for, uh, for Paul. Yeah, I really did. I thought that that was a pretty
00:31:23
Speaker
Correct, correct, correct, correct. I know there's a couple more questions up, but I am going to turn turn my wheels a little bit as we're talking to try to think like of another one that's a pretty big one that I haven't seen. yeah yeah Actually, I have a good one. um I might have a good one. Let's do it at the end. Okay. Well, you can do it now because we only have one more question. um i've but I've actually never seen bla ah Blade Runner.
00:31:49
Speaker
Oh, that is a good one. yeah and know and so But I've seen the sequel. yeah as i equal thats so unit That's an age thing. you know yeah It might be an age thing, but I've never seen Blade Runner the whole way through. I've might have again seen parts and all that type of stuff. but so if my dad My dad loves that movie, Blade Runner, and you know like it was on USA or something like that, and he and I were watching it, and we got like 30 minutes in, and he's like, no, no, we gotta stop this. We went and like went to the movie store and rented it, because he didn't want me to watch like the edited Blade Runner.
00:32:27
Speaker
Well, and the thing about Blade Runner, like I said, I haven't seen it, but like I know there's like 35 different versions where it's like Ridley Scott recutting it, the studio cutting it, and ah ah you know the the be the cinematographers cut or whatever. i don't I don't know what the definitive one is. I know that I saw one that you know it was like the theatrical release.
00:32:48
Speaker
so If I haven't seen the the correct one, Andy will know, he'll he'll be able to tell us which which one we should watch. So if I if i need to rewatch it, I will we'll we'll ah either watch it, we'll have to probably, have you ever done like one of those, like watch the movie at the same time? Yeah, we did did it with some some, I think I did it with some of my wife's family. Does it work on Disney or Hulu? I don't remember. I don't know, what and maybe Amazon doesn't know too. Anyway. Correct, correct, correct.
00:33:18
Speaker
Correct, correct, correct, correct. Where's that, can I ask where that drop us from? Oh, I made that. Okay. Yeah. I found this, I was searching online for people that said correct in social media clips. And this woman, I can, I can send you the video. It's like 45 second long video where she says correct five times in the video. So I just cut them all together.
00:33:46
Speaker
And then at the end of their video, the little music that's underneath it played, and it was like the perfect length of all of her corrects. Oh, funny. So that's that's me. Here's our final question, John. sure And this one, to start off the year, andy didn't Andy wasn't sure if we should ask this one. He thought this was a little bit silly. What is the largest animal you could knock out with one punch?

Humorous Speculations: Animal Knockout Challenge

00:34:20
Speaker
And you could go any way you want. You can put any, any, you know, you, we're not going to be able to verify this probably. Well, I mean, I guess, I mean, without actually harming an animal. Well, we have to find out if knocking out animals harms them. Yeah. Supposedly there's some animals that do not, uh, it's not actually bad for it. Okay. I always thought like, you know, like when you're younger, I was like, I could, I could probably take like a coyote or something in no way.
00:34:50
Speaker
Honestly, like the biggest animal I can think of that were like, there's like a combination of like, even, but they wouldn't get, be able, this sounds terrible, but would have a difficult time getting away or something like that. ah so the ke like The catching the animal or or the ability to sneak up on the animal and sucker punch them is really the hardest part. So I was, I was, I thought about this really hard and I was like, probably like a sloth.
00:35:19
Speaker
a sloth. Like I think I could punch it because like I think I could do the sneak up and really wind up. Yeah. No one, no one's gone gone with slots yet. I like this. Yep. So, so have you thought about like where you'd corner a sloth? Like, well, they don't really need to be cornered. That's the thing. Where the hell are you going to find a sloth? I don't even know. So there's a sloth at the Como Zoo here in St. Paul. Okay. So it's, it's at the zoo.
00:35:46
Speaker
Well, you have to like climb up that, although the hard part would maybe, I don't know if I could climb the tree. Those claws look real. Yeah, they have big claws. Yeah, their claws are for real, but unless they feel super threatened, I think he could get a punch in. Yeah, so it looks like just doing a quick Wikipedia search. It looks like they are South American and Central American. Okay.
00:36:17
Speaker
There might be, they might be in Belize. So that would be a fun trip. Otherwise Brazil. Okay. I like it. I like it. So como su sloth. Um, coming for you buddy. Yeah. Is there a moat on that one? I don't think so. I think it's not where the sloth is weak. So it's just glass, right?
00:36:37
Speaker
No, not even glass. might So my wife and I, we'd go um either on Christmas, we're probably doing on Christmas Eve this year, but on Christmas Day every year, we go to the conservatory and then the tropics area at the Como Zoo. Because they're awesome. Thank you. um And so the tropics area has the sloth and the sloth is just just like in a tree.
00:36:58
Speaker
and it's like ah it's hot they're high but like there's no barrier that's just like there's no fence or anything no there's just no not at all and then like the bird because you get the birds fly fly around the that air in the tropics area and stuff to like a lot of it there's like you know it's blocked off there's like snakes and fish and stuff like that I can tell you want snakes running around making that that they can run
00:37:24
Speaker
No, so the sloth is extremely accessible, ah but it would just it would be tough to get to like climbing climbing. So there they are omnivores, but it says they prefer leaves. I'm just i'm just trying to think if you're going to... Hey, we shot we share that. If you're going to try to coax them out of the tree.
00:37:42
Speaker
um leaves. Yeah. great grab ah Grab a pile of leaves. Grab a pile. Yeah. I just, I've got those just laying around. So should be a problem. Well, then you just have to be patient and let them come to the leaves. I mean, extremely patient. I like, I like this though. That's a, that's a good one. Thank you. Correct. Correct. Correct. Correct.
00:38:11
Speaker
now Yeah, I got to get that video. Oh, I will. Five questions.
00:38:20
Speaker
Five questions. Okay, John, this this week on five questions, you answered you answered five of the six and you got got four out of five points. That's pretty good.
00:38:32
Speaker
um that for not being in the league and having to deal with ah listening to these questions on a weekly basis, you you crushed them. Yeah. Well, thank you. I'm a little disappointed in my pulp fiction. I thought i really genuinely thought like based on who I know is in your league and all that, I was like, day I bet you everybody has seen this.
00:38:54
Speaker
yeah Yeah. It's, it's hard to say, you know, people, I mean, Jared, Jared, uh, who, who also answered pulp fiction. Um, he was, you know, but he didn't say blade runner. So you, you're, you're in the clear there. Um, John, do you have anything else you want to say to people?
00:39:14
Speaker
No, not really. Just thanks for having me on. I know I'm a bit of an interloper. Yeah, thanks for doing this. Yeah, it's fun. I think I did this last year or two years ago, too, or something similar. That's because some people were at a bar or something in the last, like maybe that might have been- That was the final. That was the final. It was like we were live watching- Live watch. Yeah, that was the live watch. That's right. Yeah. Final.
00:39:36
Speaker
And that was just the most chaotic, nobody at the bar or whatever was paying attention. No one was paying attention because they were watching football games. Yeah, that was great. We were trying to ask questions and they were like, what? Yeah. No, it was so- So, no, but this is a good time. I appreciate the thing. Yeah, no, thank you.
00:39:53
Speaker
i Uh, I will probably, I'll probably edit in, uh, what happened this week, uh, playoffs after, after, cause the the those wrap up on Monday and we're recording on Saturday. Um, but thank you for, thank you for joining me. Um, we also, we like to let everyone know that, uh, we know you have plenty of options when selecting a league specific fantasy football podcast. And we thank you for choosing ours.
