Jeff Rogers
Hello. Hi. How you doing? Great. How are you doing? Great. Did you know Cinco de Mayo? It is Cinco de Cinco de Mayo. And that means that yesterday was May the 4th.
00:00:30
Jeff Rogers
Yes, and to tomorrow is the 4th. I was just testing your nerdiness, but you know most people would have said, may the 4th be with you. Oh, no. God, no. i mean I've never seen Star Wars.
00:00:43
Jeff Rogers
Ever. Any of them? Never, I refuse. i mean, that's not as bad as you not seeing Grease, so that's fine.
00:00:52
Jeff Rogers
You'll never let me live that down. She will never let me live that down. I won't, and what going to do is I'm going to like tie you to a chair and tape your eyes open and make you Oh god, you sound like a serial

Cinco de Mayo Significance

00:01:02
Jeff Rogers
killer. You're welcome. so Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army's victory over the French Second Empire at the Battle of Puebla on the 5th of May, 1862. Good year. Not a big holiday in Mexico, but it is celebrated in the U.S. as part of a celebration of Mexican-American culture and heritage.
00:01:25
Jeff Rogers
We do love to drink tequila. We do. Any excuse, right? You know, cheers. Cheers. To all of the fabulous Mexican-Americans who live here.
00:01:37
Jeff Rogers
Cheers. um It's just a short little show for you today. happy story here, a happy story there. Because it's Monday. It's Monday. your week off right, hearing our beautiful, loving, wonderful

Show Format & Mysterious Notes

voices. Sam did a real dark show last Thursday.
00:01:54
Jeff Rogers
great. wasn't great About the um Cape Cod vampire. Cape Cod vampire. The Cape Cod Casanova. Crazy.
00:02:04
Jeff Rogers
Horrible. Yeah, he wasn't a good dude. ah You want to go first or you want me to go first? You go first. I think I went first last time. Okay. So it's mid-afternoon.
00:02:17
Jeff Rogers
Erin and her mom are in the kitchen making homemade sushi and they're jamming out to the cranberries. There you go. I knew you would love that. When suddenly they heard the doorbell ring.
00:02:29
Jeff Rogers
And they were both looking at each other in confusion for a brief moment because neither of them were expecting a visitor. So Aaron immediately walked over to the door. She looked out of the peephole and nobody was there.
00:02:42
Jeff Rogers
She waited for a couple of minutes and then she opened the door. They also had a lock screen on the outside of the front door. And right away, Aaron sees two small folded up pieces of paper laying on the ground.
00:02:55
Jeff Rogers
I have to remind myself that this is a happy story because it sounds like you're setting it up for like a murder. dintanto She's looking around like, what the heck? Is this some kind of weird prank? So she quickly opened the screen door. She grabbed the papers and she went back inside real quick.
00:03:11
Jeff Rogers
And she unfolded these tiny little notes to find what is clearly the handwriting of a child.

Heartwarming Discovery

00:03:17
Jeff Rogers
Even great beer. One note said, Dear neighbor, continue dreaming, working hard, and believing in yourself.
00:03:26
Jeff Rogers
No one is just like you. Love, S-O, happy for you. The other note said, Dear neighbor, when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
00:03:38
Jeff Rogers
You've got this. Just work it out. I know you can do it, so just try your hardest. Signed, Anonymous Neighbor. Aaron's heart instantly melted.
00:03:49
Jeff Rogers
So Aaron and her mom decided to check their cameras to see who left the notes outside. Lo and behold, it was two little girls around the ages of eight to ten. They watched them carefully and quietly tiptoe up to the house, grab the notes out of a bag, toss them on the ground, ring the doorbell, and then take off.
00:04:07
Jeff Rogers
Erin and her mom are cracking up. This is the best ding-dong ditching that's ever happened to the two of them, she said. Erin also said, whoever is raising these sweet girls is raising them right.
00:04:22
Jeff Rogers
That small act of kindness meant the absolute world to Erin and her mom. And even though the girls didn't know this, the encouragement and support those simple words carried were exactly what they needed at the time.

Impact of Kindness

00:04:36
Jeff Rogers
Erin ended up seeing them strolling down the street about an hour later while she was walking her dog and they were just hugging each other, holding hands, giggling like crazy. It was the cutest thing ever. Erin said, quote, what I wouldn't do to be that age again. Erin never saw them after that.
00:04:53
Jeff Rogers
She hasn't seen them since. And all those, even she's not a religious person at all. Erin does believe that the universe brought them to their door that day for a reason. And if you're hearing this story right now, maybe you were meant to hear it for a reason. Aaron said, I would love the opportunity to thank them one day. i would definitely love to shake their parents' hands as well. that That is what life is all about, spreading love and good vibes.
00:05:20
Jeff Rogers
It sort of makes me wonder what the world would look like if everyone was doing a kind thing every day for each other. Aaron said, quote, all I know is now I'm determined to pay it forward.
00:05:33
Jeff Rogers
That is so sweet. Just a little thing, right? That's so sweet. Just a little. Well, because it's like that. I mean, it's super cliche to say it, but you never know what someone's going through, right? So getting a little note like that could be the thing that stops them from doing something that they won't ever be able to take back, you know? And it's like.
00:05:51
Jeff Rogers
It made them happy. What's wrong with that? we need more of that. We do need so much more of that. Yeah.

Joy & Healing Memories

00:05:58
Jeff Rogers
ah okay well that was great thank you i definitely think that those two little girls were dead though um i'm just saying twisted you set it up like a horror story so it's definitely a ghost it kind of was well done yeah um my story starts off a little sad but it's good For 20 years, Mariana Cuarez's father carried a sadness that never faded.
00:06:24
Jeff Rogers
After losing his seven-year-old son to leukemia, his smile just disappeared, and life was never the same. The grief fractured the family. Mariana's parents separated, and she grew distant from her father.
00:06:35
Jeff Rogers
But fate had a different plan. When Mariana became pregnant, she held onto a deep hope that maybe having a baby boy would bring her father joy again. And when she told him the news, she saw something she hadn't seen in decades.
00:06:49
Jeff Rogers
A smile. He changed instantly. She shared the story. My parents lost a seven-year-old son. Leukemia took my brother, and since then, my father has never smiled again.
00:07:01
Jeff Rogers
My parents separated, and each went on with their lives. Because of that, I drifted away from my father. Years fat passed, and I found out I was pregnant. My dream was always to be a baby boy mom, hoping that my father would smile again.
00:07:15
Jeff Rogers
When I told him it would be a boy, he gave me a smile that I hadn't seen since my brother's passing. both He changed completely, both as a person and a father. During my pregnancy, we grew much closer, and he always showed concern for me and the baby.
00:07:29
Jeff Rogers
But here's the astonishing part. Mariana's son arrived on the very same day that her brother passed away exactly 20 years later in the very same hospital.
00:07:40
Jeff Rogers
Damn. To our surprise, my son was born premature almost a month early. He was born on the same day my brother passed away in the same hospital where he had passed. That's right.
00:07:51
Jeff Rogers
The 20th anniversary of my brother's passing on the same day, same place. The first grandchild of my parents arrived. wow Mariana firmly believes it wasn't a coincidence. I have no doubt that my brother sent my son on this date to bring joy to our lives and to give me new meaning to a day that was once filled with sadness for my family.
00:08:09
Jeff Rogers
Today, my father is a proud doting grandfather. He's in love with my son and has started smiling and living again. um Today, being a mother, I understand the pain, Dad, and I'm so sorry, truly sorry, but life gave us a gift.
00:08:23
Jeff Rogers
Who is in so so in love with you? So enjoy this love and never stop smiling. A heartbreaking past was rewritten into a story of healing, love, and the power of second chances.
00:08:34
Jeff Rogers
Ah, that's a good one. Isn't that crazy? Her brother sent him. He did. Yes. But it's that...
00:08:44
Jeff Rogers
The rewriting, you know, like there's, everyone has bad days, right? Everyone has memories that make a day really hard or a holiday really hard or something like that, right? And if you can find a way to create new memories, good memories over those things, you're not forgetting the bad. You're just bringing joy to that day so that you can think about it with some perspective, right? You know you can still hold on to whatever that horrible thing was, but you can contain it and not let it like eat you alive on that day. Maybe it's like the space just grows bigger. Yeah.
00:09:20
Jeff Rogers
You know, and you can hold both things, but because you have this good thing to balance it out, it's, it's less horrid. Dad smiled. That's something big. 20 years. Yeah.
00:09:34
Jeff Rogers
That's something big. That's a good story. That was so good. It's always yours. So that's your happy Monday. Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone. drink a margarita for us tonight. Salt, no salt on the rocks. On the rocks. I mean that frozen stuff for the birds. For the birds. On the rocks, salt around the rim. You don't like the I don't want the salt.
