Introduction to the Episode

Speaker
Hey, hey, him empowered listeners, welcome back to a brand new episode. And
The Instagram Engagement Dip
00:00:05
Speaker
today I'm going to talk about something that is definitely a hot topic on Instagram, a hot topic on TikTok, a hot topic everywhere, in that there is a little bit of an Instagram engagement dip going on right now since the start of 2024.
Reactions to Engagement Changes
00:00:24
Speaker
want to tell you what I'm doing about it and what I think about it. Here is the spoiler alert here. i am doing nothing about it. It's everywhere. Everyone's talking about it.
00:00:35
Speaker
So I'm going to address it. But the truth is I'm not doing anything about it.
Algorithm Changes and Adaptation
00:00:39
Speaker
I'm doing zero things. And I'm especially not going on social media and whining about it and asking people to like my posts and getting all up in arms about it.
00:00:48
Speaker
And that reason is very much because this is nothing new. The algorithm is always going to be undergoing changes and you are always going to see ebbs and flows.
00:00:59
Speaker
ups and downs in engagement. This is how Instagram works. We do not have control over it. And despite what a social media expert is going to tell you, there is no beating the algorithm.
Consistency Over Algorithms
00:01:11
Speaker
So there are big Instagram educators out there that are going to talk about, you know use this reel with this trending audio or share this type of content, all of these things.
00:01:22
Speaker
That is not going to beat an algorithm. Instead of worrying about beating an algorithm that you cannot beat or instead of wasting your time, your actual time, going to the internet and complaining about it, stay consistent.
00:01:37
Speaker
Keep posting with one simple goal in mind, and that is to connect to your community or connect with your community. Not to sell to your community, but to create connection there.
00:01:50
Speaker
Put more effort toward things that you can control, like your email list and content on your website. P.S.
The Importance of Owning Content
00:01:59
Speaker
You do have to blog. I'm not going to talk about that in this short episode, but you do need and a website that is living and breathing, and blogging is the fastest way to do that.
00:02:08
Speaker
Here's what I want you to remember. Your social media platforms are rented. They are rented real estate. You do not own them. You do not own the um way that they are distributed. You cannot control any of that.
00:02:20
Speaker
You do have to keep it up. I do think social media is important, but it cannot be your only marketing touch point.
Trusting Recovery and Consistency
00:02:27
Speaker
So the main things that I focus on on social media are consistency and connection.
00:02:33
Speaker
Engagement will pick up again. it will go up and down and your community is going to remember who showed up consistently. I obviously love Instagram. I met my husband on Instagram. I'm there every day spending time. I've met some of my best friends there.
00:02:47
Speaker
I've made countless client connections there as well. But I don't stress over vanity numbers. I don't freak out if one of my posts didn't do that well. I just know that either A, I didn't connect appropriately or or in the right way, um,
00:03:00
Speaker
know appropriately is right word, but i didn't connect in a meaningful way. So I use it as an information to connect better next time. And I just remember that I got to keep my head down and keep working. And I'm not going to worry about an algorithm that I do not have control over.
00:03:13
Speaker
Your business success cannot hang on an algorithm that you don't control. You can do better than that. So social media only can be one part of your strategy.
Final Thoughts on Content Control
00:03:22
Speaker
Focus on connection and focus on the content that you do have control over, which is your website content and your email list.
00:03:31
Speaker
All right, empowered listeners, you got this. Don't worry about the algorithm and vanity numbers. Stay the course, high quality content, connection. You'll see things change.
