00:00:17
Speaker
So i have a little bit of a sore throat. um I'm actually totally getting over it, but if I sound a little funny today, that is why.

00:00:24
Speaker
But I just want to get all of this info to you because it is the middle of October and I want you to have a really good end of the year.

Community Insights on Client Acquisition

00:00:33
Speaker
And so I've been asking my community, what is the problem? Why are you having trouble finding clients? And it's so interesting, the resounding... similarities between students that I really feel like are more of a mindset issue and are just not the actual problem.

Key Questions for Finding Clients

00:00:52
Speaker
So today I just want to tell you to ask yourself these three questions if you are having trouble finding clients right now. Number one,
00:01:03
Speaker
is your portfolio professional and consistent now this is a really important one that seems really obvious but i feel like a lot of people forget about this part they you know got their camera they're getting pretty good they are wondering why things aren't working but they didn't take the time to really make sure that their portfolio was and is professional So take a good look at what you're showing to the world on your website and on social media and be honest with yourself.
00:01:37
Speaker
Where do you need to improve? If you are not booking clients right now, it might just be because your portfolio is not where it needs to be. I'm not telling you this to make you feel discouraged.
00:01:48
Speaker
I'm telling you this to encourage you to get more practice and to get better at your actual photography skills, lighting, posing, et cetera. so If you've never had a portfolio review, it may be a great time to get one or to hire a mentor.
00:02:04
Speaker
so Ask yourself that. Is your portfolio professional and consistent? 2. Ask yourself if you are relying only on social media for marketing. so Are you relying only on social media for marketing?
00:02:18
Speaker
If you are, this is not the most reliable way to market your business and should not be your only marketing tactic. Social media is completely algorithm dependent and it is the most, in my opinion, unreliable way to market your business. Do I use social media? Yes. But is that where I put all of my eggs?
00:02:36
Speaker
No. I focus more on good search engine optimization and email and as well as real in-person and business connections. So when I was first building my business, I had a really amazing connection with a local yoga studio that did prenatal and postnatal yoga.
00:02:52
Speaker
And that was where I got a ton of my, or most of my newborn clients. I also had an incredible connection with a local midwife and a local birthing center. So think of other ways to market yourself beyond social media, because if you're wasting time on social media right now and it's not working, or if I guess I shouldn't say wasting, if you're doing it, it's working. Well, great.
00:03:11
Speaker
If it's not, you need to look elsewhere. Number three, this is probably the most important one. My friend, listen up. Are you wasting time obsessing over your competition?
00:03:22
Speaker
I asked a question about where your issues are with finding clients and so many people complained about their competition and their underpriced competition. Listen to me and listen carefully.
00:03:34
Speaker
Your competition is not your problem. I promise. There has always been underpriced photographers in our industry. I was one of them at the beginning. You probably were too.
00:03:45
Speaker
No big deal. There's always been underpriced photographers. There's always been a lot of photographers. They are not your problem. You are literally focusing on other people and blaming them for your business.
00:03:56
Speaker
And that is not going to make this work. Stop. And I guess I'm going to add a fourth thing here.

Encouragement and Strategic Review

00:04:04
Speaker
If you're having trouble finding your clients or finding clients, ask yourself this question.
00:04:08
Speaker
Do I believe in myself? Do you believe in yourself? The fastest way to self-sabotage is negative talk. Telling yourself that you can't do it. Telling yourself this isn't going to work.
00:04:20
Speaker
If you keep telling yourself that, you're right. It's not going to work. You got to start believing yourself. You can't expect anyone to believe in you if you don't already believe in yourself. All right, I really want to help you out. I really want to make this work for you. I know that our business, our industry is thriving.
00:04:38
Speaker
I know that it can thrive for you too. Ask yourself these questions. Take a good look at your portfolio. Take a good look at where you're spending time marketing and stop focusing on your competition.
00:04:50
Speaker
All right, we got this. Let's make this an incredible end of the year. and if you feel like it's too much for this year, let's get started next year really, really strong.
