Remembering Eric Estes

00:00:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right, Snow Jobs Nation. How are we? No intro today. No, this is ah just something me and Jeremy wanted to come on and do. um Been a rough week the last week. There's no easy way for us to do this. So I'm just going to say what we have to say and try and get through it as best we can. So, you know, try and bear with us.
00:00:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
Last Tuesday, unfortunately, we lost one of the greatest people we've had the pleasure of knowing in the snow industry so far. ah Eric Estes of Plowright Marketing Stakes passed away, unfortunately, at age 42.
00:01:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right, Eric, if you knew him, he was just one of those special people that if you met him, he always had a smile on his face. I always wanted to know how you were doing, ah how everything was going for you. And, ah you know, you just knew he was, he was a special type of person that, you know, you were, you were lucky if ah you could call him a friend. um Jeremy and I, we met Eric, like, I think two or Well, we didn't meet him, but we heard from Eric like two weeks into doing the show. ah He reached out to us via Instagram and ah still have that first message. He just said, you know, guys, this is Eric and Plowwright. I wanted to let you know that I absolutely love the show. The first two episodes were awesome. The snow industry has needed something like this for a long time. ah Please keep going with it and let me know if we can help in any way down the road.
00:02:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
um Eric, over the last almost two years now, has become one of our most hardcore supporters, and he's become a very good friend to both me and Jeremy.

Eric's Dedication to Snow Jobs Nation

00:02:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
um this This just sucks, all right? When Eric was in the hospital last December, ah just so you know how hardcore a supporter he was, when he was in the hospital last December undergoing his long hours of treatments for cancer,
00:02:24
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah He told us that he always had two things He had his snow jobs nation t-shirt on and he had the yeah show playing on his phone Alright, and he actually sent us a picture when I called bullshit. He sent us a picture from in the hospital ah to prove it to us um ah Yeah, it this is tough. But, you know, the the one thing I think me and Jeremy can take, you know, we have Matt from plow right here with us and he's going to say some stuff as well. But for me this summer, I think was really special.
00:02:58
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah Eric was feeling a lot better. He was traveling again to all the shows that we got to ah You know, we got to go to and we saw him at everything We got a lot of opportunities to hang out. ah We had a lot of great talks had a lot of good group dinners we attended a lot of good parties and He ah you could tell he had an absolute blast all summer long, you know being back with snow guys and talking snow and you know Just being out with the gang right Jay
00:03:25
RICK JAMES
Yeah, definitely pretty much echo everything you just said. Eric was, he's a great guy. I was, I feel honored to have met him. I hung out with him those few times we did. It was, I mean, I don't know how many dance we got to hang out.
00:03:36
RICK JAMES
Was it three, four different times at least minimum, like but it was, it was fun.
00:03:38
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh yeah. Yeah. Easy.
00:03:41
RICK JAMES
He always had a smile on his face and they always wanted to talk snow. And I don't know. He was just like, just a great guy. I mean, take the snow out of it. He's just like good dude. He was, he was.
00:03:50
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely.
00:03:51
RICK JAMES
good guy to talk to, had fun with him, act like we've known him forever, you know? So, I mean, yeah.
00:03:56
The SnowJobs Podcast
Always, always with the smile, always with the smile, even with what he was going through.
00:03:58
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:04:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
And even when he didn't feel 100%, cause I don't think he ever felt 100%, but I think he felt a lot better than he did, you know, back in December. um He, he really, like Jeremy said, you can take the snow out of it and he's still an awesome guy.
00:04:15
The SnowJobs Podcast
Uh, but he, he really loved the snow industry. He loved, you know, the good people in this industry. Uh, you were much better off if you had the pleasure of meeting Eric and, uh, you know, it was an honor if he considered you a friend. All right. And Jeremy and I, I could speak for Jay on this. We're going to miss him greatly. Uh, you know, and this, the snow industry is down now that he's gone, but it's so much better off because he was in it at all.
00:04:45
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right. um As good a person, he you know, as good as he was as a person, ah it's this is this sucks. I mean, as good as he was as a person, he was best at being a dad. And we want to extend our deepest sympathies to eric kids and his family, as well as his plow right family. Right. We were all better off having known Eric, ah like Jay said, just a genuine good person who made you better if you knew him. He loved.
00:05:15
The SnowJobs Podcast
he Eric loved how Jeremy and I are with ah not sugarcoating shit. And he always encouraged us and told us, you know, don't change in in that regard. Like keep giving it straight. You know, don't sugarcoat

Impact of Cancer on Eric and the Community

00:05:28
The SnowJobs Podcast
anything. Keep being in you guys. You know, that's what does is going to make you successful.
00:05:32
The SnowJobs Podcast
um So I'm sorry, personally, but for Eric, I'm going to be me, you know, one more time ah for him because he he'd want that and wouldn't want us to mix words. So just fuck cancer.
00:05:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
All right. This just fucking sucks. This is awful.
00:05:45
RICK JAMES
Yeah, it's terrible. It's been a, been a bad couple of weeks for a couple of good snow guys out here.
00:05:51
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, just not a good couple of weeks for the snow industry.
00:05:52
RICK JAMES
So yeah.
00:05:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
You know, Joey Robert is now Eric, it's ah Let's just, this is a bad period of time. It really is. It sucks. And that's, I guess that's the one drawback to meeting so many people through this show now in this industry is now, you know, there's a lot more people that you're going to miss if, uh, if you lose them.
00:06:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
So it's just gotta take the good with the bad, I guess, but Matt, you know, uh, you know, nobody knew him better than you, you know, anything you want to, you want to talk about with Eric.
00:06:13
RICK JAMES
Yep.
00:06:24
matt
ah Yeah guys, ah I'm struggling a little bit listening to you guys. So this week's been tough for me personally For the company, you know, Eric means a lot To me To plow right to Clippers, you know Eric started with Clippers first before I started with plow, right?
00:06:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely.
00:06:43
matt
You know Eric had his own business got out of that came worked to with us as like a Fertech and and overseeing our fertilizer. And then me and my dad had, you know, had a plow right going just a little bit in Michigan, ah had the tool invented. And then we went to Eric and said, Hey, do you want to try to push this to get it out of Michigan? And he, you know, that was like the biggest thing for him. It gave him a network to be able to go out and meet other people because that's you know basically it it made eric tick was talking to other guys getting out you know and meeting people and going to events that you know that was that was truly was his life that's what he loved he loved about the industry is meeting other people other guys hearing their stories hearing how they you know started their business and just you know
00:07:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep.
00:07:29
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:07:39
matt
That was Eric. You get on the phone with Eric, he asks you how you are and what you're doing. you know Then he just talked to your business plans and stuff like that. He's just he's that type of guy. he He loved the industry.
00:07:50
matt
He really did. He truly kept me going at times where I'm like, i without him, i would probably I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't be talking to you.
00:08:01
matt
I can tell you that.
00:08:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
Hmm.
00:08:04
matt
Because I've always been a quiet guy and kind of stayed on everything and just kept to myself. And Eric's like, hey, You got to try to open up and meet some people and get into the industry. And I'm like, all right, we'll do it.
00:08:15
matt
you know That was the thing. When he got sick, he's like, you got to do this. And I'm like, OK, we'll do it. And that was this summer. It was our tour together, you know kind of meeting people and going through and getting into the industry a little bit more that he loved.
00:08:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:08:28
matt
And it was always great to be with him this summer because he knew a ton of people.
00:08:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:08:35
matt
And everywhere we went, you know, people come up, hug him, ask him how he's doing. And that's how I got to meet people was through Eric and that way.
00:08:43
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah.
00:08:44
RICK JAMES
Mm hmm.
00:08:44
matt
So.
00:08:44
The SnowJobs Podcast
And I, yeah, I think that's really important, Matt, like what you said this summer with, with him seeing the people, uh, and, and them hugging them and asking them how he was doing. Um, he had said that when we were talking, I, I think it was in that basement bar at Simon, uh, we had like 15 minutes that just me and him were really talking.
00:09:02
matt
Yeah.
00:09:03
The SnowJobs Podcast
And, uh, you know, I was asking him about everything, how he was feeling and stuff. He was like, great, you know, I'm doing so much better. You know, I feel great again. And, um, He made it a point to say like, he goes, you know, thank you for when I was in the hospital. Like I was, I was struggling and I was putting it out. Like if anybody's bored, you know, message me, I'll have my phone. And he said, like all the guys from different walks of, you know, the snow industry, all different places, guys reaching out and just keeping his mind occupied for 15, 20 minutes with a couple of DMs back and forth, uh, when he was strong enough to answer him, he said it, you know, it kept him going. It meant the world to him. So, you know, if you,
00:09:42
The SnowJobs Podcast
If you were one of those guys that reached out during that couple of weeks there that he was you know undergoing the treatments in the hospital there in December, you know just definitely know that he did he did say it it meant the world to him. So you know he wanted, I don't know if he told everybody that, but he told me that. So I just wanted to reiterate that you know he was extremely appreciative of everybody that reached out while he was going through that and and checked on him and kept his mind off things. and You know, I, I find it, uh, I dunno, I'm kind of sad that he was stuck listening to our show the whole time why it's getting chemo or you couldn't do any better than that, buddy.
00:10:16
RICK JAMES
Yeah, I don't know.
00:10:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
But yeah, it just sucks.
00:10:22
matt
Yeah.
00:10:24
The SnowJobs Podcast
This is, there's no easy way to go about it. It really is. There's definitely a hole there. Um, now it's, it's just, yeah, it's, it's just, it he's already a week, you know,
00:10:31
RICK JAMES
It's gonna be missed, that's for sure.
00:10:37
RICK JAMES
And we didn't hardly know. I mean, we knew him, but we didn't know him like Matt matt and but you know obviously is his his children are going to be missing their dad the rest of their lives.
00:10:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah. Can't imagine.
00:10:46
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely.
00:10:46
RICK JAMES
It's terrible.
00:10:47
matt
Sure, they are.
00:10:48
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely. And on that note, you know if there's anything positive coming out of this, um yeah you got to at least try and find the silver lining here. Once again, the snow industry is stepping up.
00:11:00
The SnowJobs Podcast
you know It always seems like when the chips are down and guys need help, the you Snow guys seem to to really get out there and do what needs to be done to help guys out.

Community Support for Eric's Family

00:11:12
The SnowJobs Podcast
A GoFundMe was set up for Eric's kids with all donations going straight to them for their college educations. And that was extremely important to Eric, right Matt?
00:11:22
matt
Yes, yes. it's you know His a senior this year and she's going to be you know going to college somewhere and she you know she does really well in school. So it was big for him to you know have her go to college and you know find a career that she wants to do.
00:11:40
matt
And so, you know, whatever anyone can do to help that happen is awesome. I talked to Eric's mom, you know, before all this and just kind of let her know what was going on and she.
00:11:40
The SnowJobs Podcast
that's awesome
00:11:56
matt
literally was breaking down and making me break down, you know, going over this and can't believe that people that, you know, she doesn't know, just, you know, Eric is met in this industry stepping up to help their family is just unbelievable to her. um So it's just, it's just a, you know, for them, it's just a, it's a very great thing that um their son was able to touch so many people that they're willing to help his kids.
00:12:25
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely. I was just going to say that he touched a lot of people.
00:12:26
matt
when he can, so, yeah.
00:12:28
RICK JAMES
Yeah. Yeah.
00:12:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
Like you couldn't have a bad word to say about Eric.
00:12:30
matt
So, yeah.
00:12:32
The SnowJobs Podcast
Like, I mean, he really couldn't. He was too happy. I don't know everyone.
00:12:36
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:12:36
matt
forget Yeah, no.
00:12:38
RICK JAMES
he tell He's always had a smile and he's always ready to bullshit with you.
00:12:39
The SnowJobs Podcast
You know, absolutely.
00:12:41
RICK JAMES
So, and he he would dish it, but he would dish it back.
00:12:42
matt
Yeah.
00:12:44
RICK JAMES
So that's, that's our kind of people.
00:12:44
matt
Yeah.
00:12:45
RICK JAMES
so
00:12:46
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yeah, absolutely.
00:12:46
matt
No.
00:12:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
um If you guys want to help out, I know a lot of you already have. I recognized a lot of names on that list over the last six days or five days that it was up. I think it's close to 9,000 right now already.
00:12:59
The SnowJobs Podcast
ah You can find the link to that. Go fund me at the top of Plowwrights page at plowright dot.com. um You know, if you can do anything, that's great. You know, do it.
00:13:09
RICK JAMES
It isn't a snow power doing something for that too.
00:13:11
The SnowJobs Podcast
Yep. yep
00:13:32
The SnowJobs Podcast
that ain't cheap and that'll raise some serious money for them. um We thank them obviously for their extreme generosity and ah we're going to keep you posted on the details of that as soon as Dan and Rick figure out how they're doing it, we'll ah we'll let you know.
00:13:46
RICK JAMES
yep put on our socials and everything so
00:13:48
The SnowJobs Podcast
And yeah, we we'll we'll get it out there, how you can get a raffle ticket for that and how you can help out. and then um The one other thing, ah the snow jobs and storm equipment are teaming up. We're going to do a run of Memorial T-shirts in Eric's memory. ah Those are going to be available for purchase soon. we' We'll let you know when and where you can get them. um Again, all proceeds going to Eric's Kids College Fund, right? They're going to be black shirts ah with the plow right logo on the front and a really cool design on the back that Darcy d'arcy from Storm came up with.
00:14:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
And again, we'll we'll put that out on all our socials and everything on the episodes. We'll let you know as soon as they're available and how you can get them. um Yeah, it's just, I mean, this freaking sucks that we got to do this. But again, thank you to everybody that's already stepped up to to help out his kids. And, you know, because Eric meant something to you guys and, you know, he, he, he meant a lot to, to people that knew him in the industry. And if you didn't know him, that's unfortunate. If you never had the opportunity, the pleasure to meet him, you know, it's, uh, he was definitely one of a kind, that's for sure. And I think that's why so many people are stepping up to do the right thing by him.
00:15:05
The SnowJobs Podcast
But you got anything else, Matt?
00:15:07
matt
um i Yeah, just like Eric, you know, Eric was, Eric's a great, you know, he was a great guy and anything that anyone can do to help his kids would be awesome.
00:15:18
matt
You know, because if it was, I always say if the page was turned and it was me and it was him, he would be doing the same thing. You know, he would try to help out any way he could for anyone that's in the industry because that's just the way he is.
00:15:25
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely. Absolutely.
00:15:31
matt
Um, so whatever anyone can do, it doesn't matter how much it can be $5, whatever it is.
00:15:31
RICK JAMES
who
00:15:37
matt
It's just showing that, you know, people care out there for others. So, and the snow industry, you know, has big hearts and a lot of people are stepping up to do great things.
00:15:49
matt
And it's it's just an awesome thing to see for, um, you know, the memory of a great guy to help his family out.
00:15:55
The SnowJobs Podcast
Absolutely. Absolutely. I mean, it it seems like the very least that we can do, i if I can think of anything else to do, we will do it too.
00:16:05
The SnowJobs Podcast
But, uh, you know, let's just make sure his kids are taken care of. Cause that was always his first priority.
00:16:09
matt
Yeah.
00:16:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
And, uh, that was, they were his pride and joy. So, uh, you know, that's not something, uh, he should have to worry about. Uh, they'll be taken care of as as much as we can anyway.
00:16:22
The SnowJobs Podcast
Um, Yeah, just the whole thing just fucking sucks, dude. It really, uh, it was, it was unexpected, you know, cause he was doing better. And then, uh, you know, you could tell maybe it equipped that he maybe wasn't feeling

Eric's Health Decline and Legacy

00:16:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
the best again.
00:16:37
matt
Yeah, equip was rough for him.
00:16:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
Um, but you didn't expect what's that.
00:16:40
matt
Yeah, equip was rough for him. You could tell that's when his his cancer was coming back. When we, were you know, through that time, I could tell something before we went, what's going on, but he wouldn't, he wouldn't let in on anything.
00:16:54
matt
But um a lot of the signs from before I could tell. when we you know, went through the first process there and I was seeing the same things. And as soon as we got back, he went in and, you know, all his levels were up and his cancer was back.
00:17:02
The SnowJobs Podcast
Gotcha.
00:17:07
matt
So as he started treatments um basically about a week after we got back because he ended up in the hospital the weekend we got back into the hospital and then he got out for a little bit and then he was back in the hospital and then he had to start treatments and then he was going through chemo and you know getting all that and going forward that way.
00:17:30
The SnowJobs Podcast
man
00:17:30
matt
yeah so
00:17:32
The SnowJobs Podcast
Well, I'm glad we got to spend the summer with him.
00:17:32
matt
Yeah.
00:17:35
The SnowJobs Podcast
I'm glad he had a great time at all the events.
00:17:35
matt
yeah
00:17:35
RICK JAMES
Yeah.
00:17:36
The SnowJobs Podcast
it was It was great to see him happy and around the people he wanted to be around. And I know you know me and Jeremy, well well we're definitely gonna miss him. He was just one in a million.
00:17:47
The SnowJobs Podcast
but ah Just a great dude.
00:17:47
matt
Yeah.
00:17:49
The SnowJobs Podcast
And yeah we already miss him. It's tough. This one's ah this one's pretty shitty.
00:17:56
matt
Yeah. Well, it does suck because not seeing his face, you know, every day at work, you know.
00:18:02
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, I can't even imagine for you, dude.
00:18:03
RICK JAMES
Yeah, yeah, that's terrible.
00:18:04
The SnowJobs Podcast
I can't even imagine for you, bro.
00:18:05
matt
Yeah.
00:18:06
The SnowJobs Podcast
We feel for you guys, all the plow right family there. That's, uh, that's, that's gotta be tough.
00:18:09
matt
yeah It's been hard on our employees. We, you know, we lost my dad May 25th to cancer and then we just lost Eric, you know, so you're talking months and it's, it's been a tough, tough goal this year.
00:18:21
The SnowJobs Podcast
I bet. I can't even imagine, dude.
00:18:22
RICK JAMES
Yeah, condolences.
00:18:23
matt
And all the people that are stepping up, you know, at Plowwright and Clippers to, you know, fill shoes, get things done through this time, you know, I can't say enough great things about the people that work there.
00:18:37
The SnowJobs Podcast
Oh, that's awesome. That's awesome. Oh, that's the nice thing about our industry is generally the people in it are generally just salt of the earth really good people to do the right thing.
00:18:49
matt
There.
00:18:49
RICK JAMES
Yeah, hopefully everybody else, you know, step up and maybe give a little whatever they can give. You have to go fund me and help Eric's kids out and stuff. That would be great of them. I mean, give what you can give.
00:19:00
RICK JAMES
If you can't, that's fine. Just maybe reach out the plot, right? And give them your condolences or whatever. That's, I mean, that's where we're just talking about a great guy right now.
00:19:05
matt
Yeah.
00:19:09
RICK JAMES
So.
00:19:10
matt
Yeah.
00:19:10
The SnowJobs Podcast
And absolutely. Oh yeah. I, you know, like, like we said, man, anything we can do for you or Haley, or you know, any of the plow, right? People, you know, just let us know. Cause you know, as hard as it is for us to hear that news, i I can't even imagine for you guys. So, you know, we're here for you. And, uh, if you need me thing, you know, don't hesitate to reach out and we'll do what we can.
00:19:33
matt
Yeah, no, I appreciate you guys and I appreciate being all the people that have been reaching out to us and you know, you know, Rick was no power calling and saying he wanted to do that for his kids and then with you guys and Storm and you know everyone at Storm reaching out. It's just it's nice to have that family that looks out for each other.
00:19:54
The SnowJobs Podcast
It's, uh, good people gen, I believe the good people genuinely find each other, you know, they, they usually kind of congregate and, uh, and they, they all think the same way.
00:20:06
The SnowJobs Podcast
So that's why they, they kind of end up in the same spot. Um, and yeah, like you said, Rick, you know, Rick is awesome. Rick is Rick. There's only one Rick, you know, and, uh, you know, storm and Jordan, they're, they're all, they're all the same type of people too.
00:20:14
matt
Yep.
00:20:20
The SnowJobs Podcast
Everybody's just looking to do right by people and.
00:20:21
matt
Yeah.
00:20:23
The SnowJobs Podcast
well We'll keep doing that. and yeah Like I said, it's it's it's eric was you know I talked to Eric quite a bit um on the phone and stuff ah and messaging back and forth here. and you know he He became he became a pretty deep a pretty good friend over the last you know six, eight months. um just checking in on him and seeing how he's doing and stuff and, you know, breaking his balls about how the, uh, my, my plow right markers this year, better not fade and stuff and him giving it right back to me. And, uh, but, uh, yeah, this just, this

Eric's Influence on the Show and Industry

00:21:00
