And we want to welcome you to our Live, Learn, Survive podcast.
00:00:17
Speaker
Since 2018, Lee and I have travelled the world and met face-to-face with over 13,000 children.
00:00:23
Speaker
We've created a series of children's books and Maxie's Rescue Squad where teens and young adults can learn life skills online that not only help themselves, but help others too.
00:00:31
Speaker
We take what we do very seriously, ourselves not so much.
Unusual Recording Setup
00:00:34
Speaker
We're currently sitting in a car park.
00:00:37
Speaker
So let's spend the next half an hour together in the wilderness for some fun, inspiration and kindness and we'll try and learn something too.
00:00:44
Speaker
I really hope so.
00:00:46
Speaker
How are you, Lee?
00:00:47
Speaker
Lee, you're actually with me in the car.
00:00:48
Speaker
Yeah, where are you this week, Lee?
00:00:50
Speaker
Well, I'm sat next to you, Maxie.
00:00:51
Speaker
We're in the car.
00:00:53
Speaker
We are racing the clock because, as you know, four o'clock on Friday is podcast time and it's already 4.15.
00:00:59
Speaker
Yes.
00:00:59
Speaker
So, not ideal.
00:01:01
Speaker
It's not ideal.
00:01:02
Speaker
That's a bit of unfortunate.
Expect the Unexpected
00:01:04
Speaker
It is.
00:01:07
Speaker
We're going to take a photograph of this because if you didn't see this, you would not believe it.
00:01:12
Speaker
We were sat.
00:01:13
Speaker
So we're in a rest area on the side of, where are we?
00:01:16
Speaker
The M?
00:01:17
Speaker
We're on the, what was it?
00:01:19
Speaker
New England Highway.
00:01:20
Speaker
New England Highway.
00:01:21
Speaker
So we did something pretty exciting today, which we'll tell a little bit about later.
00:01:26
Speaker
But we decided we were going to make the quote for this week is...
00:01:32
Speaker
Expect the unexpected.
00:01:34
Speaker
Expect the unexpected.
00:01:36
Speaker
That explains our week because it's Friday.
00:01:41
Speaker
And as we said, we're really nudging this one.
00:01:43
Speaker
We're going to be a little bit late.
00:01:44
Speaker
And we weren't even supposed to be together.
00:01:46
Speaker
Never mind about in a car on the New England highway.
00:01:48
Speaker
I was supposed to be home in Brisbane.
00:01:50
Speaker
You were supposed to be home in Sydney.
Community Engagement and Contributions
00:01:52
Speaker
And we're here in the upper... How did we end up here?
00:01:55
Speaker
We're in the upper Hunter region, which is a beautiful part of New South Wales.
00:01:59
Speaker
And yeah, we're in Victoria earlier this week, which we'll talk about.
00:02:02
Speaker
But before we get into too much, can you remember when?
00:02:07
Speaker
Yeah, so what we're going to talk about today, we're going to talk about the high tea, because the result of the high tea was the...
00:02:14
Speaker
Awesome people in Brisbane that came along and supported us, people online, resulted in us being able to donate over 250 books to an amazing organisation called The Backpack Venture, who are currently donating backpacks around regional New South Wales.
00:02:34
Speaker
Hence why we are in regional now in South Wales, because we got the opportunity to tag along with them today and help them hand some of their backpacks out and some of the books.
00:02:44
Speaker
So that was pretty awesome.
00:02:46
Speaker
So remembering when the high tea and when you, you know, you put something good out there for people, good things happen back.
00:02:54
Speaker
And we had an awesome day today.
00:02:56
Speaker
Yeah, it's been a great day and I look forward to it.
00:02:59
Speaker
talking a bit more about it throughout this episode.
00:03:02
Speaker
But, yeah, if you're joining us now, if you're just joining us, we're currently sitting at a truck stop two and a half hours north of Sydney.
00:03:13
Speaker
And we were originally outside, but we're now sitting in the car.
00:03:16
Speaker
Outside's about 35 degrees.
00:03:18
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:18
Speaker
And there's lots of bull ants.
00:03:20
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:21
Speaker
There's a lot going on.
00:03:22
Speaker
We would have been rolling in, never mind the podcast, we would have been rolling into Rescue Squad.
00:03:27
Speaker
Exactly right.
00:03:28
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:29
Speaker
No, this is unique and this is one for the times.
00:03:32
Speaker
But, yeah, we'll have a bit of fun with it.
00:03:34
Speaker
So bear with us if the music isn't up to scratch because we've got the one microphone between us.
00:03:41
Speaker
We're hot spotting off a phone.
00:03:44
Speaker
And we don't even know what we might get.
00:03:47
Speaker
Exactly right.
00:03:47
Speaker
So hit it, Maxie.
00:03:48
Speaker
Are we going to get any music or not?
Travel and Community Support
00:03:50
Speaker
Here we go.
00:03:50
Speaker
We'll see if we can hear it.
00:03:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:59
Speaker
Good news, Mike.
00:04:01
Speaker
Hopefully you can hear that.
00:04:02
Speaker
Yeah, so good news this week.
00:04:04
Speaker
There's a few things.
00:04:05
Speaker
We're obviously in Victoria earlier this week.
00:04:09
Speaker
So that was great.
00:04:11
Speaker
We were down in Tarragon, rural.
00:04:14
Speaker
you know, what would you say, Country Victoria?
00:04:16
Speaker
Yeah, Country Victoria.
00:04:17
Speaker
So the Gippsland region, the Latrobe Valley and the Gippsland area.
00:04:21
Speaker
And again, we went to lots of libraries.
00:04:25
Speaker
We went to lots of aquatic centres and just met some awesome, awesome people.
00:04:32
Speaker
Yeah, it was a really good time and it's good to be back on the road.
00:04:36
Speaker
It's been eight, nine months since we've been stuck in lockdown and not been able to travel.
00:04:41
Speaker
So it's good to finally get back face to face.
00:04:44
Speaker
Yeah.
00:04:44
Speaker
And within the one week...
00:04:46
Speaker
Country Victoria, Fire Shift, and then up here in the Upper Hunter Valley region, which is three and a half hours north of Sydney.
00:04:56
Speaker
Beautiful part of the world.
00:04:57
Speaker
Yeah, and the nice thing as well when we were down in Victoria, because one of the things we always wanted to do with the rescue squad was show different parts of Australia.
00:05:04
Speaker
And we were able to get out.
00:05:06
Speaker
The weather was just stunning.
00:05:07
Speaker
We were able to show some beautiful parts of the Gippsland area and we filmed heaps of things for the squad.
00:05:15
Speaker
And then one of the really nice things happened at one of the talks is one of the kids had a rescue squad T-shirt on.
00:05:23
Speaker
Yeah, which caught me off guard because I didn't realize.
00:05:26
Speaker
I actually said nice hat, mate.
00:05:28
Speaker
He had like his Hurley surf hat on.
00:05:30
Speaker
Didn't even notice the Maxi's Rescue Squad shirt until Lee pointed out just as we're starting the talk.
00:05:37
Speaker
And it looked great.
00:05:38
Speaker
It was awesome to see our merchandise slowly creeping out, getting out there.
00:05:43
Speaker
We know there's a lot of people that listen to these podcasts that have a bit of the merch.
00:05:47
Speaker
So, yeah, keep rocking it.
00:05:49
Speaker
You never know when we might see you face-to-face.
00:05:50
Speaker
Exactly right.
00:05:51
Speaker
Exactly right.
00:05:53
Speaker
So we did that.
00:05:54
Speaker
And then while we were also down there, we did the Zoom.
00:05:56
Speaker
So we checked in with everybody from all over the world who came in on the Zoom.
00:06:03
Speaker
And we also, while we were on the Zoom, we got a new person in the squad who was one of the teachers from the online team.
00:06:12
Speaker
lesson that we did.
00:06:14
Speaker
And what was just awesome for me was she said that the feedback from the school, the kids, the retention of the information, what they remembered from learning how to float, putting the hand up.
00:06:28
Speaker
Amazing.
00:06:29
Speaker
Amazing.
00:06:30
Speaker
It was good to see it, you know, filter through to the kids.
00:06:33
Speaker
And, you know, we're told that the kids at this school do, you know, suffer a little bit with special needs.
00:06:40
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:41
Speaker
And, you know, it's so good to be able to give back to these communities and teach them some life skills that they will be able to understand and be able to live life, you know, to the fullest and be safe in doing so.
00:06:55
Speaker
And it's pretty cool.
00:06:57
Speaker
You know, the school was in Birmingham.
00:07:00
Speaker
Yeah.
00:07:00
Speaker
And while I was teaching it, I had COVID.
00:07:03
Speaker
So there's like a whole, you know, bit of a โ it was a bit of a โ
00:07:09
Speaker
It pulled the heartstrings when we read the nice testimony on the feedback.
00:07:12
Speaker
Yeah, it was absolutely lovely.
00:07:14
Speaker
So that was all the good news this week.
00:07:16
Speaker
So it's been a great week.
00:07:19
Speaker
It's been great to be back on the road.
00:07:21
Speaker
Lots of things to be grateful for.
00:07:23
Speaker
We literally are on the side of a road.
00:07:24
Speaker
Yeah, we're going to take a photo of this.
00:07:25
Speaker
If you're tuning in now, we are on the side of the road.
00:07:28
Speaker
Taking it to a whole other level.
00:07:30
Speaker
I can't wait for when, we haven't said anything about what we're doing in April yet.
00:07:33
Speaker
No, we won't.
00:07:34
Speaker
We'll save that for another time.
00:07:36
Speaker
There'll probably be many more of this.
00:07:38
Speaker
I just realised, Maxi, we've still got these ridiculous hats on that we've just been given because we're sitting outside and we're sat in the car with these hats on there.
00:07:46
Speaker
No, if someone drives past us, seriously, it's just like.
00:07:50
Speaker
I probably think something's going on.
00:07:51
Speaker
The way that I'm hiding this microphone in between us, it's an odd shape.
00:07:57
Speaker
It doesn't look kid-friendly.
00:08:00
Speaker
But, yeah, no, it's, you know, keep it G-rated, this podcast.
00:08:04
Speaker
Oh, yeah.
00:08:05
Speaker
Anyway.
00:08:05
Speaker
But, yeah, no, it's good.
00:08:06
Speaker
It's all for a good cause.
00:08:08
Speaker
All for a good cause.
00:08:09
Speaker
So hopefully you can hear this music and we're moving on to the next segment.
00:08:12
Speaker
What have we got next then?
00:08:13
Speaker
Hang on.
00:08:19
Speaker
You've been there haven't you, you've been down the action station.
00:08:22
Speaker
Yeah, action station.
Life as a Firefighter
00:08:24
Speaker
So last week we didn't get a chance but one of the shifts I had a building fire, a unit fire, four car accidents, alarm operating, concern for welfare, medical access emergency, all within the first 12 hours of shift.
00:08:37
Speaker
Obviously we do 24s.
00:08:38
Speaker
So yeah, it was a busy day and then yesterday we had a car accident
00:08:45
Speaker
I don't know how he did it, but it was a guy trapped in his car on its side in the driveway perfectly.
00:08:52
Speaker
So I don't know how he did it.
00:08:55
Speaker
He reckons he was coming home from a night shift and he must have hit the curb or something, but it literally โ Oh, yeah, hit the curb and flipped it off.
00:09:03
Speaker
Yeah, it was flipped pretty much โ
00:09:06
Speaker
Right in the middle of his driveway.
00:09:08
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:09
Speaker
Well, he got it in the spot.
00:09:11
Speaker
Would he have got a ticket for parking it like that?
00:09:13
Speaker
Probably.
00:09:13
Speaker
Possibly.
00:09:14
Speaker
But he was lucky that he wasn't injured.
00:09:15
Speaker
But quick thinking from his neighbours, they managed to jack the car and hold it steady while they pulled him out.
00:09:22
Speaker
But when we got there, he was getting treated by the paramedics, and I'm sure he would make a full recovery.
00:09:28
Speaker
There was no real major...
00:09:30
Speaker
trauma injuries but yeah we pushed the car back and his Lexus is now back on four wheels not two so that's good yeah it's good to hear that busy time at the action station you're back on shift tomorrow back on shift again tomorrow it's a weekend and it's nice weather so who knows what tomorrow will bring yeah but yeah it is currently the 28th of Feb on a Friday it's January oh my god it's been a big day it's been a massive day
00:09:58
Speaker
It's been a big day.
00:09:59
Speaker
That could be the unfortunate event.
00:10:01
Speaker
Maxie doesn't know what month it is.
00:10:02
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:10:06
Speaker
Yeah.
Future Plans and Reflections
00:10:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:07
Speaker
I'm lucky I even know what day it is.
00:10:09
Speaker
But in saying that though, I'm working tomorrow and then I've got Sunday, Monday, potentially Tuesday.
00:10:14
Speaker
Tuesday's off.
00:10:15
Speaker
So I've got three days off coming up.
00:10:16
Speaker
That's good.
00:10:17
Speaker
And I'm on the last flight tonight.
00:10:18
Speaker
So I've got the weekend off.
00:10:19
Speaker
So last flight to Brizzy.
00:10:21
Speaker
Hope I don't miss it.
00:10:22
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:23
Speaker
That'd be an unfortunate event.
00:10:24
Speaker
No, I've got plenty of time.
00:10:26
Speaker
4.30.
00:10:26
Speaker
We've got plenty of time.
00:10:27
Speaker
4.30.
00:10:27
Speaker
We've got plenty of time.
00:10:28
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:10:29
Speaker
So it's been mainly smooth sailing.
00:10:31
Speaker
We've been okay.
00:10:32
Speaker
Speaking of unfortunate events.
00:10:37
Speaker
What did I miss?
00:10:41
Speaker
Well, we've been pretty lucky this week.
00:10:42
Speaker
There hasn't been too many unfortunate events.
00:10:45
Speaker
But, you know, just I think the unfortunate event today could be the fact that we're sitting on the side of a truck stop.
00:10:57
Speaker
Let me paint the picture.
00:10:58
Speaker
It's daylight.
00:10:59
Speaker
So you can see what's going on.
00:11:00
Speaker
It's daylight.
00:11:01
Speaker
That's good.
00:11:01
Speaker
You can see what's going on.
00:11:03
Speaker
You can see if there's anything dodgy going on.
00:11:07
Speaker
But coming here at night, I would not be safe here at night.
00:11:11
Speaker
It's actually quite secluded.
00:11:15
Speaker
It's quite secluded.
00:11:16
Speaker
It's very secluded.
00:11:17
Speaker
There's a shed.
00:11:18
Speaker
There's about six picnic tables.
00:11:21
Speaker
all in the sun.
00:11:23
Speaker
How's this?
00:11:24
Speaker
Depending tables, they've got shade over them and they're all in the sun, just the way that the sun is sitting at the moment.
00:11:29
Speaker
So I don't know.
00:11:30
Speaker
I don't know who designed that one.
00:11:32
Speaker
They don't give much shade.
00:11:34
Speaker
But not one person is at any of them.
00:11:37
Speaker
There's only one car here.
00:11:40
Speaker
Yeah, and there was another car before right in the corner somewhere.
00:11:45
Speaker
So I don't know what was going on over there, but they've gone.
00:11:48
Speaker
So we must have scared them off.
00:11:50
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:51
Speaker
The unfortunate event, we've had a really good week.
00:11:53
Speaker
It's been very productive.
00:11:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:56
Speaker
You know, I forgot to add, we smashed it with the Rescue Squad this week.
00:12:00
Speaker
Oh, yeah.
00:12:01
Speaker
We've got new members.
00:12:03
Speaker
We have filmed five or six episodes up front.
00:12:06
Speaker
So the themes that we're coming up are snake bites, knots, rescue knots.
00:12:12
Speaker
We talk about lake rescues and lake safety.
00:12:16
Speaker
We talk about the fire blanket.
Safety and Leisure
00:12:18
Speaker
uh which is really good because we're out over looking latrobe valley all these places that we did the filming made sure it was a beautiful setting a beautiful spot to show you nice parts of australia yeah and what was the fifth one the fifth one was on oh we went for a walk walk and talk like you know unwind after the day and um yeah we got halfway along and there was a
00:12:38
Speaker
massive crack of thunder and we thought we better turn around.
00:12:42
Speaker
But yeah, we went for a walk, a little bit of an unwind after the day.
00:12:45
Speaker
So yeah, we smashed it this week.
00:12:48
Speaker
It's been great to be on the road and do all of that.
00:12:53
Speaker
So yeah, so what have we got then next, Maxie?
00:12:54
Speaker
What are we on?
00:13:05
Speaker
Tip of the week is boat safety.
00:13:07
Speaker
We're talking boat safety today.
00:13:10
Speaker
And the episode that we launched, I did the little teaser.
00:13:15
Speaker
It launched today, but the little teaser on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram.
00:13:20
Speaker
And it's pretty much just talking about boat safety, how to place a life jacket on.
00:13:24
Speaker
It's very important to know these things because it's relevant not just here in Australia, but all over the world.
00:13:29
Speaker
So if you do get a spare minute and you are a part of the rescue squad,
00:13:33
Speaker
Make sure you check out this boat safety video.
00:13:36
Speaker
It's very important.
00:13:37
Speaker
It's a good one.
00:13:38
Speaker
And if you're not a part of the squad, join up.
00:13:41
Speaker
But if you're not, go check out YouTube or TikTok or our Live, Learn, Survive and Max's Rescue Squad Insta page and you'll be able to see the minute video about boat safety, which is very important.
00:13:53
Speaker
Yeah, because we were telling the kids today, obviously we've been inland today.
00:13:56
Speaker
There's more drownings in land than there is at the beach and how important it is to
00:14:01
Speaker
Be safe around rivers and be safe if you're on boats, on lakes, and make sure you're wearing your life jacket.
00:14:08
Speaker
So, yes.
00:14:09
Speaker
So, great tip, Maxie.
00:14:12
Speaker
A good one.
00:14:13
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:13
Speaker
Crazy statistic we talk about as well is 15% of all drowning deaths here in Australia are boat related.
00:14:19
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:20
Speaker
So...
00:14:21
Speaker
And around the world will be a lot more, I know for sure.
00:14:24
Speaker
So just be careful around the water.
00:14:26
Speaker
It doesn't matter what month it is.
00:14:28
Speaker
It always is relevant to be safe around the boat.
00:14:32
Speaker
Exactly, exactly.
00:14:33
Speaker
So, yeah, great video, Maxie.
00:14:34
Speaker
You did a great job of that.
00:14:37
Speaker
So then next thing, we've got the playlist.
00:14:39
Speaker
What are we putting in the playlist today?
00:14:41
Speaker
The playlist today is a song by the Beatles, The Beatles, and it's Get Back.
00:14:48
Speaker
I think it's a really cool song.
00:14:50
Speaker
We'll talk about it later in the podcast of things that we've been indulging in of late.
00:14:56
Speaker
But, yeah, that song's been getting played a fair bit on my Spotify the last few weeks running and so on.
00:15:04
Speaker
So hopefully you all enjoy a bit of Beatle.
00:15:07
Speaker
Get back on the road.
00:15:08
Speaker
That's been us this week.
00:15:09
Speaker
Get back on the road.
00:15:10
Speaker
So, yeah, the Beatles get back.
00:15:13
Speaker
We'll get that straight in the playlist.
00:15:15
Speaker
And yeah, another good, excellent choice, Maxie.
00:15:20
Speaker
So yeah, so what have we got next?
00:15:21
Speaker
On to the quick five, not so quick.
00:15:31
Speaker
Yeah, the quick five.
00:15:33
Speaker
That's not so quick five.
00:15:34
Speaker
There's just a car turned up.
00:15:36
Speaker
We might have to make it quicker.
00:15:37
Speaker
There's a couple of cars that have turned up.
00:15:39
Speaker
Oh, there's two cars turned up now.
00:15:42
Speaker
So, yeah, so the quick five.
00:15:43
Speaker
What we thought this week, we'd tell you about some of the five cool places that we've been this week as we've been travelling around Australia.
00:15:52
Speaker
So first thing we went to is a beautiful lake just in the Gippsland area called Lake Narrakhan,
00:15:58
Speaker
And that's where we did some of the video in.
00:16:01
Speaker
And it was Australia Day, such a beautiful setting.
00:16:05
Speaker
Everyone on boats, jet skis, they were just enjoying their day.
00:16:10
Speaker
Public holiday, so people were off, gone to the water.
00:16:15
Speaker
30, what was it, 34, 35 degree day?
00:16:19
Speaker
Beautiful, stunning day at Lake Narakan in Gippsland.
00:16:23
Speaker
Yeah, and we got some really good footage for the rescue squad there talking about, you know, all the hidden dangers that I could have seen on the day.
00:16:31
Speaker
But, you know, in a nutshell, if you're ever in regional Victoria near Tarragon, check out Lake Narakan.
00:16:37
Speaker
Narrakan.
00:16:38
Speaker
Narrakan.
00:16:41
Speaker
And then this whole area is part of a wider area called the Latrobe Valley.
00:16:46
Speaker
So it's basically a valley that's to the east of Melbourne.
00:16:49
Speaker
So if you know Victoria, Victoria is the southernmost state other than Tasmania.
00:16:56
Speaker
on the eastern side of Australia.
00:16:59
Speaker
So it's the very southern of the mainland.
00:17:02
Speaker
And this Melbourne is the capital city there.
00:17:04
Speaker
And then this area is all out towards the east, towards the middle of the state and the coast.
00:17:09
Speaker
So the Latrobe Valley, some absolutely beautiful lookouts.
00:17:13
Speaker
So we went up and we took a few photos, didn't we, up at the lookouts.
00:17:18
Speaker
And yeah, such a really nice countryside.
00:17:23
Speaker
And from one of these lookouts,
00:17:25
Speaker
we were doing some rescue, how many butterflies were in that, that look out?
00:17:29
Speaker
Yeah, there was plenty.
00:17:31
Speaker
Um, a lot of our videos that we made, there was some birds, there was some butterflies, really green.
00:17:37
Speaker
There's obviously, you know, we were in the bush or in parts of, uh, you know, areas that, that,
00:17:43
Speaker
pretty much untouched.
00:17:44
Speaker
So it was very beautiful.
00:17:45
Speaker
It was very nice.
00:17:46
Speaker
I reckon one point I was filming you talking and there would have been 20 butterflies around you.
00:17:50
Speaker
It was unbelievable.
00:17:52
Speaker
So that's a beautiful Latrobe Valley.
00:17:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:56
Speaker
And we got a new little country town that's just before Shriargan called Garagong.
00:18:01
Speaker
Yep.
00:18:02
Speaker
And we stopped there last time we were down there, and then we stopped again this time.
00:18:05
Speaker
And there's this really nice bakery that, you know, it's just got all the sandwiches, milkshakes, ice creams.
00:18:12
Speaker
Yep, loads of local produce because there's a lot of dairy and a lot of local produce for the Gippsland area.
00:18:18
Speaker
And something that caught my eye, and I actually bought the last packet, they had frozen strawberries, Maxie.
00:18:24
Speaker
And they were just divine.
00:18:25
Speaker
Frozen strawberries covered in chocolate, freeze-dried, frozen, then covered in chocolate.
00:18:31
Speaker
chocolates and actually talia and i had them last night but there's one left so when you get home yeah maybe i can you can you can try it well if there are any left so um so yeah so that was our um first first few spots wrapping up of beautiful victoria and then i didn't fly home to brisbane because i'm here now with you in
00:18:53
Speaker
Yeah, we're in the upper Hunter Valley, which is like we're saying four, three and a half hours northwest of Sydney.
00:19:00
Speaker
It's a bit inland off Newcastle.
00:19:02
Speaker
So it's a great part of the world.
00:19:04
Speaker
Some really nice scenic drives, especially here in the Great Dividing Range.
00:19:10
Speaker
um, yeah, beautiful.
00:19:11
Speaker
So we're in Denman, um, went to a few schools in the area, got to meet some locals, went and had a lemon lime bitters at the local country pub.
00:19:19
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:20
Speaker
As you do, cause it's, it's been incredibly hot.
00:19:24
Speaker
It's like 35 degrees and we've been at, at in pretty much in the sun with our hats on and, um, my face, I look like I've caught the sun.
00:19:31
Speaker
So, um, so yeah, we've got our hats on and it's incredibly hot.
00:19:35
Speaker
So, um,
00:19:36
Speaker
So yeah, we met some amazing people.
00:19:38
Speaker
So shout out to St.
00:19:40
Speaker
Joseph's School in Denman because the principal was just amazing.
00:19:43
Speaker
They managed to get a number of our books as well.
00:19:46
Speaker
And we'll be able to share next week's podcast of a couple of other bits of cool things that we did with the schools.
00:19:53
Speaker
We just can't talk about it until Monday.
00:19:55
Speaker
But hence Mondays after this podcast gets released.
00:19:57
Speaker
So next week we'll talk about it.
00:20:00
Speaker
Yeah, some good coverage.
00:20:02
Speaker
That's all we've got to say.
00:20:03
Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
00:20:03
Speaker
So great and great people to meet.
00:20:05
Speaker
The Backpack Venture people were brilliant because we hadn't actually met them yet.
00:20:08
Speaker
And it was just like the stars aligned.
00:20:10
Speaker
So great.
00:20:11
Speaker
Instead of me flying back to Brisbane on Wednesday night, I changed my flight.
00:20:15
Speaker
I came back to Sydney with you.
00:20:16
Speaker
You went to the fire station, came home from the fire station at 7 o'clock this morning, and we were on the road by quarter to 8.
00:20:24
Speaker
Exactly right.
00:20:24
Speaker
And then I dropped you off at the airport.
00:20:26
Speaker
Yeah, because I'm on the late flight home.
00:20:28
Speaker
We're still about 2 hours and 40 minutes from Sydney.
00:20:31
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:31
Speaker
Dropped Lee at the airport, and then, yeah, I'll shoot off home.
00:20:34
Speaker
And then, yeah, back on the fire station tomorrow.
00:20:36
Speaker
Tomorrow, and I'm on there.
00:20:37
Speaker
I don't land in Brisbane until...
00:20:39
Speaker
like well it'll be 11 o'clock sydney time so it's going to be a long long day covered a fair bit of australia in the last six days so um we've got eight nine months to make up yeah exactly exactly so um so that's good and then last thing maxi because we've been on the road a lot any other business what have we been watching listening to or reading
00:20:59
Speaker
Yeah, so for me, two this week, you know, I've been in a hotel room down in the country of Victoria overnight after a busy day teaching and educating.
00:21:09
Speaker
I managed to watch a bit of the new Beatles documentary, the docuseries called Get Back.
00:21:16
Speaker
And it's, you know, raw footage, two and a half hours each episode.
00:21:21
Speaker
So there's three episodes in total of 18 days watching the Beatles come up with the Let It Be album.
00:21:27
Speaker
I thought it was very interesting and it's very raw and I've heard a lot of Beatles songs over the years, but I'm actually quite a big fan of the rock and roll and the kind of the style of music, their last album before they broke up.
00:21:40
Speaker
So it's very interesting.
00:21:42
Speaker
And also adding on to that, I managed to, I'm only two pages off finishing a book that I got about two weeks ago, which is a world record for me reading.
00:21:52
Speaker
It is Ross Elderly, the guy that swam around England.
00:21:55
Speaker
Yep.
00:21:56
Speaker
champion guy, really knowledgeable, a lot of inspiration for me for my adventure race coming up in 10 weeks.
00:22:02
Speaker
But yeah, two pages off and it's a great book.
00:22:05
Speaker
Good.
00:22:06
Speaker
Well done, Magsie.
00:22:07
Speaker
And then I watched on the fly and then I got it on my... I watched my favourite film.
00:22:11
Speaker
Switched my brain off after busy days.
00:22:13
Speaker
My favourite... One of my favourite films, The Blind Side.
00:22:16
Speaker
I can't... I love that film.
00:22:18
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:22:19
Speaker
And then I'm halfway through and I watch it on the rest of the flight.
00:22:25
Speaker
I'm watching it again.
00:22:26
Speaker
A Star is Born.
00:22:27
Speaker
Lady Gaga and Bradley Kibbe.
00:22:29
Speaker
That's a good movie.
00:22:31
Speaker
Good movie.
00:22:31
Speaker
Good movie.
00:22:32
Speaker
So...
00:22:33
Speaker
if you are listening, just check out those recommendations because, uh, you know, it keeps us occupied and not, it's hard for us to slow down and switch off.
00:22:41
Speaker
So if these, these things are working, maybe, uh, you should try it out.
00:22:45
Speaker
And good things should be shared.
00:22:47
Speaker
So when we find something good, we'll be promised we'll be the, you'll be the first to know.
00:22:51
Speaker
We'll tell you about it.
00:22:52
Speaker
So, um,
00:22:53
Speaker
So, yeah, so that's been our very crazy, hectic week.
00:22:58
Speaker
So what are we going to finish off with this week's rule, Max?
00:23:03
Speaker
There's so much.
00:23:04
Speaker
Where do we even start?
00:23:05
Speaker
There's so much.
00:23:06
Speaker
So this week's rule for the rule book is always...
00:23:10
Speaker
What have we got here?
00:23:10
Speaker
Sorry.
00:23:11
Speaker
We've got glass half full, not glass half empty.
00:23:14
Speaker
Yeah.
00:23:15
Speaker
So glass is always half full, not half empty.
00:23:17
Speaker
So it's always, you know, you always got room for improvement.
00:23:20
Speaker
You know, you've got always improvement for adding a little bit more water.
00:23:24
Speaker
You know, it's when you're looking at the empty, you know, all your hydration and everything's just got to go away.
00:23:30
Speaker
So just try it.
00:23:31
Speaker
It's how you look at its perspective.
00:23:33
Speaker
Just always have your glass half full.
00:23:36
Speaker
Yeah.
00:23:36
Speaker
And then you can always expect the unexpected.
00:23:39
Speaker
as happened with us when, you know, for me, three day trip turned into a six day trip.
00:23:44
Speaker
We got to meet some awesome people today that we would never even have done that.
00:23:48
Speaker
So, yeah, always keep your glass, look at your glass and think it's half full, not half empty because that's when, you know, good things happen.
00:23:56
Speaker
So.
00:23:57
Speaker
Exactly right.
00:23:58
Speaker
Well,
00:23:59
Speaker
You know, a few people aren't going to be happy.
00:24:01
Speaker
We're a little bit short today, aren't we?
00:24:03
Speaker
We're 24 minutes in.
00:24:05
Speaker
But you know what?
00:24:06
Speaker
There's more cars turning up, Max.
00:24:07
Speaker
There's more cars turning up.
00:24:08
Speaker
I think we can be excused a few minutes today.
00:24:11
Speaker
Exactly right.
00:24:12
Speaker
So, yeah, because we are on the fly, it is, you know, fast paced this podcast.
00:24:19
Speaker
But I hope you all enjoyed.
00:24:21
Speaker
Make sure that you check out all the socials, keep up to date with everything that we're doing because there's a lot of exciting stuff coming.
00:24:28
Speaker
Lots of stuff coming.
00:24:30
Speaker
And we know that we have support from not just here in Australia but all over the world.
00:24:33
Speaker
So we thank you for that.
00:24:34
Speaker
And, yeah, we hope you enjoy the podcast.
00:24:36
Speaker
We'll see you all next week.
00:24:38
Speaker
Yeah, we will.
00:24:39
Speaker
And, yeah, we thank everybody for tuning in.
00:24:42
Speaker
This one's going to be a little bit different, but we'll take a photo because if you do not see this, you would not believe it.
00:24:48
Speaker
So this is just one that will definitely go in the book, Maxie, the other book.
00:24:54
Speaker
The other book, exactly right.
00:24:54
Speaker
The final book.
00:24:56
Speaker
Exactly right.
00:24:57
Speaker
Well, we hope everyone has a great, safe week.
00:24:59
Speaker
Look after yourselves and we'll see you all next week.
00:25:01
Speaker
See you soon.
00:25:02
Speaker
Bye.
00:25:03
Speaker
Bye.
00:25:03
Speaker
I hope we all get home.
00:25:04
Speaker
Yeah, hopefully we get home, but hopefully the music works.
