Introduction to 'Live, Learn, Survive' and its global mission
00:00:09
Speaker
G'day, I'm Trent Maxwell.
00:00:11
Speaker
And I'm Lee Mason.
00:00:13
Speaker
And we want to welcome you to our Live, Learn, Survive podcast.
00:00:15
Speaker
Since 2018, Lee and I travel the globe, met face-to-face with over 33,000 children in six countries across three continents.
00:00:21
Speaker
We created a series of awarding children's books, the global online education program, and the founders of the Live, Learn, Survive charity, all focused on teaching children and young adults life skills that will not only help themselves, but help others too.
00:00:32
Speaker
We're on a mission to spread awareness about fire, water and first aid education to inspire the next generation of first responders.
00:00:38
Speaker
So join us for the next half an hour with some fun, inspiration and kindness and we'll try and learn something too.
00:00:43
Speaker
How are you this week, Lee?
Weather update from Brisbane
00:00:48
Speaker
Welcome, luckily, to a stormy Brisbane.
00:00:54
Speaker
That's all I can say about the week that's been, it's been wild, weather-wise.
00:01:03
Speaker
Literally, I think, what are we, November?
00:01:06
Speaker
We're not actually supposed to be in summer yet.
00:01:08
Speaker
So we're still in spring.
00:01:13
Speaker
The storm season has started.
00:01:15
Speaker
So more of that will prevail.
00:01:18
Speaker
It's actually quite lucky I'm here.
00:01:20
Speaker
But you'll hear about that in the unfortunate event.
00:01:22
Speaker
I look forward to hearing the unfortunate event.
00:01:25
Speaker
But, yeah, the quote this week.
00:01:27
Speaker
So let's start with the quote.
00:01:29
Speaker
Let's get off on the positivity.
The importance of staying curious and lifelong learning
00:01:33
Speaker
Yeah, so the quote this week is, I'm curious about everything, even subjects that don't interest me.
00:01:41
Speaker
Stay curious, honestly, about everything your whole life.
00:01:46
Speaker
Especially in the last couple of years, you know, me personally, like, you know, I'm reading a lot more.
00:01:51
Speaker
I'm trying to do different things and do different hobbies and different things.
00:01:54
Speaker
And I'm a really big believer in you're always learning.
00:01:57
Speaker
Every day is a school day, as we always say when Live, Learn, Survive.
00:02:02
Speaker
Stepping out of your comfort zone, doing things that really excite you, challenge you, get the mind thinking and moving.
00:02:08
Speaker
And you don't know what people you meet along the way that align with your values and what you want to do.
00:02:14
Speaker
So it's a really good start, really good quote.
00:02:16
Speaker
Absolutely, absolutely.
00:02:18
Speaker
Just, you know, stay curious.
00:02:20
Speaker
Just always have that curiosity because it will just, you know, it will serve you in good stead.
00:02:26
Speaker
So love that quote.
00:02:28
Speaker
Really, really good.
Launch of 'In Deep Water' and other book-related updates
00:02:32
Speaker
What have we got this week?
00:02:34
Speaker
We have some good news.
00:02:43
Speaker
Yeah, so good news this week, Lee.
00:02:46
Speaker
In Deep Water is now available to purchase, which is very exciting.
00:02:50
Speaker
I'm surrounded by them.
00:02:52
Speaker
I've got them everywhere.
00:02:53
Speaker
They're all over the place.
00:02:55
Speaker
And I love finding them.
00:02:59
Speaker
Yeah, they're a great book and all the pre-orders have been sent out.
00:03:05
Speaker
So thank you everyone for supporting and jumping on early.
00:03:08
Speaker
But in saying that, though, all the books are now available just before Christmas.
00:03:14
Speaker
There's plenty of books there and support a good cause.
00:03:19
Speaker
Yeah, and we've got new photos as well, new bookmarks.
00:03:22
Speaker
Yeah, just saying.
00:03:24
Speaker
You know, it's got some new stickers, so it looks good.
00:03:29
Speaker
Yeah, like the new bookmarks look amazing, the stickers, the pictures, all updated and all on brand with the book and the new illustrations that we have in deep water.
00:03:41
Speaker
So, yeah, I hope you all enjoy.
00:03:44
Speaker
And another bit of exciting news.
00:03:46
Speaker
His book two cover, The Rough Draft, is coming along nicely.
00:03:53
Speaker
What a superstar, Paul.
00:03:57
Speaker
We've got the draft of, which people will know it as the Stormy Protest.
00:04:02
Speaker
So the new cover, oh, so I can't wait to see it in colour.
00:04:07
Speaker
So we've had like the draft is what's like the black and white little sketch.
00:04:12
Speaker
And then when we know we've got all the detail correct, Paul says,
00:04:16
Speaker
Actually, people might not realise Paul hand paints this.
00:04:19
Speaker
This is not something that's created by, you know, computer or what.
00:04:25
Speaker
This is a skilled hand painted artwork.
00:04:29
Speaker
So we are so, so lucky to have Paul.
00:04:33
Speaker
And yeah, can't wait to see that get coloured in and come to life.
00:04:36
Speaker
So that's going to be very exciting and not too far into 2025.
00:04:45
Speaker
Yeah, really, really exciting.
00:04:49
Speaker
And yeah, we get to catch up.
Road trip to Newcastle and book giveaways
00:04:54
Speaker
We're back on the road next week.
00:04:56
Speaker
We're going up to Newcastle for two days and we've got a couple of schools up there.
00:05:00
Speaker
We're going to be doing some important meetings moving into the back end or tied up their last bit of 2024 into 2025.
00:05:07
Speaker
We're going to be recording some new videos and planning.
00:05:12
Speaker
for 2025, which is very exciting.
00:05:14
Speaker
Yeah, a lot of good different formats and video ideas and we look forward to sharing.
00:05:19
Speaker
And I'm road tripping, so I'm not going to fly this time.
00:05:22
Speaker
I'm doing a little road trip and I'm bringing you some more books.
00:05:26
Speaker
I've got boxes of books in the hall.
00:05:27
Speaker
I'm bringing you some more.
00:05:30
Speaker
So, yeah, so I'm going to load the mini and hit in the road.
00:05:34
Speaker
So I'm actually excited about that.
00:05:36
Speaker
I'm going to go and find some beaches that I didn't –
00:05:40
Speaker
know about and you know what i might do maxi i might you never know i might drop in a book on the way if i find somewhere i might drop in a book on the way i could actually maybe think about that maybe we can come up with a different way of um giving back just before christmas where i can do maybe that remember i did that run and dropped all the books in all the strategic places again something something fun maybe we can do something if i come across a little school if i come across a little school i might just you know
00:06:07
Speaker
do a couple of goodie bags up and drop them in.
00:06:11
Speaker
That would be cool.
00:06:13
Speaker
So, yeah, excited.
00:06:16
Speaker
We're back on the road next week and back in a school, which will be fun.
00:06:19
Speaker
Very exciting for that.
Concert experiences: Coldplay and Take That
00:06:21
Speaker
What else have we got?
00:06:22
Speaker
Have I missed something?
00:06:23
Speaker
Yeah, and I was lucky enough to see Coldplay last Sunday.
00:06:29
Speaker
I've never really been a big Coldplay fan.
00:06:36
Speaker
I've struggled getting on the Coldplay bandwagon on many a road trip.
00:06:41
Speaker
You've not been feeling the Coldplay album on the road trip, but it turned you to the light side.
00:06:49
Speaker
It's a bit of a family affair.
00:06:52
Speaker
We had tickets about a year ago, or we got tickets when they come out, and we had pretty good seats.
00:06:56
Speaker
And, yeah, I'm a changed man.
00:06:58
Speaker
I think he's a Chris Martin, brilliant performer.
00:07:03
Speaker
You know, the vibe was high.
00:07:05
Speaker
The love was all around.
00:07:07
Speaker
It was an amazing show.
00:07:08
Speaker
And that leads us into your unfortunate event, Lee, and we may as well kick into that.
00:07:15
Speaker
I'll just find the music, stand by the way.
00:07:21
Speaker
do know this is the whole podcast.
00:07:24
Speaker
Yes, let's go, let's get it done.
00:07:27
Speaker
So we were both excited Sunday morning, we were going out like grown-ups, you were off to Coldplay and I was going to see Take That.
00:07:36
Speaker
Now any girl, lady of some of my age that may have grew up in England will
00:07:46
Speaker
you know, take that, I like national treasures.
00:07:49
Speaker
I've been going to see them longer than I've been married.
00:07:52
Speaker
They formed in 1990, so they're as old as my marriage, completely given my age away now.
00:07:59
Speaker
And I've been all over the UK to see take that.
00:08:02
Speaker
I've been to Manchester.
00:08:03
Speaker
I've been to Earls Court.
00:08:04
Speaker
I've been everywhere.
00:08:05
Speaker
I've nearly missed the last train home from London to Nottingham to see take that.
00:08:10
Speaker
Seven years ago, I saw take that in Australia.
00:08:17
Speaker
Because they had a little break up and then reformed.
00:08:19
Speaker
When they reformed, they did a meet and greet in the middle of Queen Street Mall.
00:08:24
Speaker
And I actually stood in 40 degrees for two hours to get a CD signed.
00:08:30
Speaker
I was actually supposed to be in Sydney at a meeting and I moved my flight so I could be in the Queen Street Mall.
00:08:39
Speaker
It was take that day.
00:08:40
Speaker
Got there, got my cheese platter.
00:08:42
Speaker
We were with my sister.
00:08:45
Speaker
who we met in the queue at the Queen Street Mall, and there's been friends ever since.
00:08:50
Speaker
All the girls were there.
00:08:51
Speaker
Every person in that crowd had an English accent.
00:08:54
Speaker
We were all – it was amazing.
00:08:56
Speaker
First on was a little group called Darcy from Melbourne, brother and sister.
00:09:04
Speaker
They'd been playing pubs around Melbourne, did the first thing.
00:09:08
Speaker
Next on, Day on the Green, Ricky Lee.
00:09:12
Speaker
She was brilliant.
00:09:13
Speaker
Didn't, I'll be honest, didn't know lots about Rikki Lee.
00:09:17
Speaker
She was brilliant.
00:09:19
Speaker
And she sang with a voice.
00:09:24
Speaker
Next on, very excited about this one, Sophie Ellis-Bexter.
00:09:27
Speaker
If you were there the first time around, she's like the disco queen.
00:09:32
Speaker
Everyone knows Murder on the Dance Floor because I think TikTok have found it.
00:09:36
Speaker
So that's Sophie Ellis-Bexter, the Murder on the Dance Floor girl.
00:09:40
Speaker
She came on stage and said...
00:09:43
Speaker
look, people, there's a storm potentially rolling in, but we think it's going to miss us and go south.
00:09:51
Speaker
And the people at the event were keeping us updated about the weather.
00:09:56
Speaker
We are going to keep going through this.
00:09:58
Speaker
And if this storm goes, I'm here until it gets within 10 kilometres of the venue, and then I have to go off stage because that's the safety.
00:10:08
Speaker
Because she's on a great big stage with metal, whatever.
00:10:13
Speaker
We're going there.
00:10:15
Speaker
Probably she was on for an hour.
00:10:20
Speaker
Drop, drop, drop of rain.
00:10:23
Speaker
Lightning start to in the distance.
00:10:29
Speaker
Get the ponchos out.
00:10:30
Speaker
There was a whole rustle in the crowd.
00:10:32
Speaker
It's going to rain.
00:10:32
Speaker
Get the ponchos out.
00:10:34
Speaker
And she's going, we're pushing it back.
00:10:36
Speaker
We're pushing it back.
00:10:37
Speaker
The storm, we're pushing it back.
00:10:40
Speaker
Next thing she goes...
00:10:42
Speaker
I swear she was ready for Murder on the Dancefloor, the encore.
00:10:46
Speaker
She goes, that thing we said not going to happen.
00:10:49
Speaker
She said, I'm so sorry, it's happening.
00:10:51
Speaker
They're going to drag me off.
00:10:54
Speaker
But I'm coming back.
00:10:56
Speaker
This was about 7.15.
00:11:01
Speaker
So 7.15 to 8 o'clock, we sat there and got drenched with lightning all around us.
00:11:10
Speaker
Not directly over it, but getting closer and closer.
00:11:14
Speaker
Five to eight, five minutes before tape that came on.
00:11:19
Speaker
Bear in mind, Maxie, I've been sat in this field since three o'clock in the afternoon.
00:11:24
Speaker
Five to eight, cancelled.
00:11:28
Speaker
Emergency services have been on.
00:11:29
Speaker
And we're all about safety, Maxie.
00:11:32
Speaker
We've been told to evacuate the site.
00:11:35
Speaker
We're in the middle of the bush.
00:11:36
Speaker
There's trees all over.
00:11:39
Speaker
Getting to the buses was just not fun.
00:11:44
Speaker
The ambos were fixing up a smashed face.
00:11:47
Speaker
People had gone into that concert in thongs, which is like flip-flops.
00:11:54
Speaker
They were skidding around in the mud.
00:11:56
Speaker
It was like Gladstonebury.
00:11:57
Speaker
It was like whatever.
00:12:00
Speaker
Didn't see you take that.
00:12:01
Speaker
They were literally, I had the best seats ever.
00:12:05
Speaker
They were wonderful.
00:12:06
Speaker
200 metres away from the maxi and they didn't even wave they didn't even wave broken broken but I was very relieved when we got onto that bus and I knew I was on rubber tyres because it could have gone very very badly and everyone was safe there's been nothing you know all the rest of it but gutted well
00:12:35
Speaker
Well, my unfortunate event's not too bad this week.
00:12:39
Speaker
Well, actually, it kind of is, but it's not.
00:12:43
Speaker
Tell us, because this doesn't end.
00:12:46
Speaker
I've got another book.
00:12:49
Speaker
Yeah, what have you... No, no, keep going.
00:12:52
Speaker
The one that I said, when I'm lucky I'm here, was not relating to the Take That concert.
00:12:57
Speaker
Because the storm two days later... Oh, carry on.
00:13:00
Speaker
Well, I'm on a roll, Maxie.
00:13:02
Speaker
I'm going to take that.
00:13:05
Speaker
Yeah, two days later, the storm took out the NBN.
00:13:11
Speaker
Luckily, our internet is a business account and they have this backup.
00:13:18
Speaker
So call it the generator.
00:13:20
Speaker
So I'm actually on the generator till Sunday.
00:13:26
Speaker
So the storm took it out.
00:13:32
Speaker
storms i'll just i'll just have a sip of my coffee max you you go you go well mine's not as extreme as that mine was more um on a clinical level i worked at bronte beach two days ago and um i rode the scooter down to the beach all well and good 55 get to work
00:13:54
Speaker
Six o'clock, start
Beach incidents: Intoxication and scooter troubles
00:13:55
Speaker
setting up the beach.
00:13:55
Speaker
We get a call from Jackson Doolan, one of the lifeguards on the way to Bondi saying that someone has fallen over and they're intoxicated and she needs some help up on one of the back streets of Bronte.
00:14:06
Speaker
So I grabbed the medikit, jumped on the back of the scooter, took off up the road.
00:14:12
Speaker
As I get up there, notice that she had two friends with her, which was a relief because, you know, initially I thought she was by herself and she was pretty vulnerable.
00:14:21
Speaker
And then we realized that the friends were helping her and the poor girl had vomit all over her.
00:14:27
Speaker
She had hit her head.
00:14:29
Speaker
She was out of it, right?
00:14:31
Speaker
And she didn't take any drugs.
00:14:33
Speaker
It was just purely alcohol and she was incoherent drunk.
00:14:37
Speaker
And yeah, so I started treating her, making sure that she had some water, she had some gauze.
00:14:44
Speaker
I was gonna call an ambulance.
00:14:45
Speaker
They'll animate that in one ambulance, but they kept calling Ubers.
00:14:48
Speaker
Ubers kept canceling.
00:14:50
Speaker
So I'm wrong going with this story.
00:14:52
Speaker
We deal with all sorts of different medical stories all the time.
00:14:55
Speaker
She ended up being fine.
00:14:56
Speaker
Someone ended up coming to pick her up and taking her away.
00:14:59
Speaker
So she was safe and she was with her friends.
00:15:02
Speaker
Went to jump on the scooter to head back down to Bronnie and the scooter wouldn't start.
00:15:10
Speaker
So I'm in the lifeguard uniform with the big medikit on the back.
00:15:14
Speaker
I was like a motorbike in Italy that rides around and helps people on the medical bikes or ambulances that they have.
00:15:21
Speaker
Yeah, I was like where I am.
00:15:26
Speaker
So I had the radio and I had me bum bag and I had everything.
00:15:30
Speaker
And my bike wouldn't start.
00:15:33
Speaker
And it was a busy time of morning.
00:15:34
Speaker
So anyone that's around the eastern suburbs, you know, everyone's ceiling up in Queensland.
00:15:38
Speaker
You know, everyone's up and about, you know, the sun's out.
00:15:40
Speaker
And a lot of people are on the coast.
00:15:42
Speaker
So give us a bit of context.
00:15:44
Speaker
How far away from the beach are you?
00:15:46
Speaker
A kilometre, two kilometres?
00:15:47
Speaker
I'm about a kilometre.
00:15:48
Speaker
About a kilometre away from Bronte.
00:15:49
Speaker
About a kilometre.
00:15:50
Speaker
So are people like...
00:15:53
Speaker
Yeah, I was between... People giving you directions back to the beach?
00:15:56
Speaker
Did they think you got lost?
00:15:57
Speaker
Mate, the beach is down away.
00:16:00
Speaker
I was playing it down.
00:16:01
Speaker
The bike wouldn't start and it was making all these weird noises and I was like, oh, so I'm going to have to just push it.
00:16:06
Speaker
So I knew I was on a bit of a hill, so I just...
00:16:10
Speaker
So basically I pushed, pushed, pushed, got a bit of momentum and I started rolling down the hill and I just acted like I was like, I was just coasting along the coastal track.
00:16:21
Speaker
Um, just checking out the surf maybe.
00:16:23
Speaker
Yeah, the bike didn't start.
00:16:25
Speaker
So I had to, I had to push it.
00:16:28
Speaker
Um, once I got it back up the hill, but yeah, it was an unfortunate event.
00:16:31
Speaker
And then I get down to the beach and I was telling the guys about it.
00:16:36
Speaker
Yeah, and they were having a laugh.
00:16:37
Speaker
But it was just an unfortunate situation because I needed the scooter to get to hospital to go visit Sunny during the day and then also get home to check the letterbox for the new postcards.
00:16:50
Speaker
The postcards that you have to sign?
00:16:54
Speaker
I end up, the bike end up kicking over.
00:16:56
Speaker
It must have been something to do with the battery or something because I went back up there just before I was going to run home and it kicked over and it's kicked over ever since.
00:17:04
Speaker
So maybe because when I did stop to do the medical, I was on a slant.
00:17:08
Speaker
So maybe the fuel and the mixture, I don't know, something happened with the bike, but it seems to be working at the moment.
00:17:13
Speaker
So it's definitely got 10 miles to the bike.
00:17:17
Speaker
We'll take that as a win, Maxie.
00:17:19
Speaker
We will absolutely take that.
00:17:22
Speaker
See what I did there?
00:17:24
Speaker
We'll take that as a win.
00:17:25
Speaker
And, you know, and that's off to you because people probably, you know, you talk about like, you know, only dealing like primary focus being in between
Humor break with dad jokes
00:17:34
Speaker
There you are a kilometre away looking after the community.
00:17:39
Speaker
And I'm sure you've seen many people a bit of a giggle with you, with your bomb bag, your radio, your medikick.
00:17:45
Speaker
in your lifeguard uniform, and you look like you've lost the beach.
00:17:48
Speaker
So I'm sure you gave a few people a chuckle too.
00:17:53
Speaker
So I look forward to hearing this story face-to-face, and I'm sure there's plenty of animations that go with this.
00:17:59
Speaker
So I'll look forward to that.
00:18:01
Speaker
Way too many unfortunate events.
00:18:05
Speaker
All right, give us a dad joke.
00:18:09
Speaker
What have you got for me?
00:18:12
Speaker
Never kiss your wife with a runny nose.
00:18:16
Speaker
You might think it's funny, but it's snot.
00:18:24
Speaker
You might think it's funny, but it's snot.
00:18:32
Speaker
Good marriage advice there.
00:18:34
Speaker
Thank you, Dr. Maxwell.
00:18:36
Speaker
So I've got one for you, Maxie.
00:18:38
Speaker
The shop assistant.
00:18:41
Speaker
Shop assistant says to the customer, how about this one?
00:18:45
Speaker
When the customer happens to be a sidekick and the sidekick goes, too small.
00:18:48
Speaker
And the shop assistant goes, you didn't even try it on.
00:18:51
Speaker
And the sidekick goes, I'm a medium.
00:19:02
Speaker
What sound does a 747 make on a bouncy landing?
00:19:11
Speaker
What does a 747 make on a bouncy landing?
00:19:14
Speaker
Boeing, Boeing, Boeing, Boeing.
00:19:20
Speaker
Love it, love it, love it, love it.
00:19:21
Speaker
So, and speaking of 747s, Maxi, yesterday it was 42 years since I first landed as a teenager at
00:19:41
Speaker
On a 747 in Australia.
00:19:50
Speaker
Look, I do love an A380, but 747, the queen of the skies.
00:19:55
Speaker
I just went a bit nostalgic there, Maxie, with the bowings, the joke.
00:20:01
Speaker
Okay, next joke for you then.
00:20:04
Speaker
You know English, Maxie, it can be such a hard language to master.
00:20:09
Speaker
You accidentally switch two letters and the whole sentence is urine.
00:20:22
Speaker
I do liken to that.
00:20:24
Speaker
We won't add it out.
00:20:25
Speaker
The pause there is urine.
00:20:27
Speaker
It was like ruined.
00:20:33
Speaker
I'll try better for next week.
00:20:36
Speaker
I'm just doing it.
00:20:37
Speaker
I'm deleting it as we speak.
00:20:49
Speaker
Have we done both of them there?
00:20:52
Speaker
I did the sample of seven and the snot.
Lifeguard experiences and safety tips
00:21:04
Speaker
So job of the week this week, I was just speaking about before, doing a few lifeguard shifts.
00:21:08
Speaker
I'm actually back at the fly station next Sunday, which I'm excited for.
00:21:12
Speaker
No more extra special leave.
00:21:14
Speaker
But yeah, so lifeguarding, we had a very big job the other day.
00:21:19
Speaker
very badly bad or badly bad a broken ankle someone's playing in the park and snapped their ankle playing touch football um and yeah not ideal so antibodies had to give them methoxyfluorane which is our pain relief the green whistle and uh yeah did a little rescue as well a bit of a shore break one of the kids uh got stuck behind the shore break and i was getting swept out to see how to panic and i managed to uh
00:21:46
Speaker
Grab him and bring him in.
00:21:48
Speaker
So, yeah, it's been a big couple of days on the beaches.
00:21:52
Speaker
I'm actually, you know, this is as live as it gets.
00:21:54
Speaker
This will be this afternoon when it goes out, but I'm working on it today and I'm at Bronte tomorrow on Sunday.
00:21:59
Speaker
So it's a big week, big week of life.
00:22:03
Speaker
We'll see what the weekend brings.
00:22:07
Speaker
And, you know, what we're seeing in the news, there are drownings already happening.
00:22:12
Speaker
So many tips on our socials.
00:22:15
Speaker
Just follow along and, you know, like learn something, read the signs, all the things that we bang on about all year around.
00:22:23
Speaker
So just, yeah, please stay safe, people, because we're already starting to see things in the news and it's just like not even so many.
00:22:32
Speaker
So that leads nicely then, Maxie.
00:22:36
Speaker
What have you got for us?
00:22:44
Speaker
Yeah, tip of the week this week, Lee, is piers and jetties.
00:22:47
Speaker
So it's very important to, if you are going to go to a pier or jetty around the rivers, lakes, dams, ocean, you need to make sure that you know where the medical equipment can be, so defibs.
00:22:58
Speaker
You need to know where the life rings are, where the rescue tubes are, throw bags.
00:23:02
Speaker
If someone was to fall in the water, do not rush into that situation.
00:23:05
Speaker
Always assess the situation.
00:23:10
Speaker
Get emergency services on the road.
00:23:12
Speaker
If you can assist in some way to rescue someone,
00:23:15
Speaker
you know, utilize the equipment that you got, but try not to jump into harm's way because far too often rescues do drown as well, especially on peers and jetties.
00:23:26
Speaker
You see someone jump in, you're jumping in after them and you might become a drowning victim yourself.
00:23:34
Speaker
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
00:23:37
Speaker
And that was a great video that you put out.
00:23:39
Speaker
You know, Santa Monica Pier, good time.
00:23:42
Speaker
That must be almost two years or three years.
00:23:45
Speaker
Yeah, it was two years.
00:23:46
Speaker
Two years ago, that's crazy.
00:23:48
Speaker
Yeah, it was a great trip.
00:23:52
Speaker
I absolutely love that trip.
00:23:53
Speaker
So, yeah, great tip, Maxie.
00:23:56
Speaker
And, yeah, so what have we got this week then?
00:24:07
Speaker
Well, as everyone knows, we are getting better with our planning with Live and
The power and benefits of kindness
00:24:12
Speaker
Each week is leaps and bounds of what we're trying to achieve and we're excited to be working on some good things for 2025 to get even better with our planning.
00:24:21
Speaker
But we did miss, Lee, when you were having a look, that it was World Kindness Day the other day.
00:24:29
Speaker
So I thought, you know what, I'm not going to do random facts this week.
00:24:33
Speaker
I'm going to just do five tips around kindness.
00:24:37
Speaker
Kindness is a contagious acts of kindness when often inspire others to be kind, creating a ripple effect in communities and beyond.
00:24:46
Speaker
Studies show that observing kind behavior encourages people to pay it forward.
00:24:50
Speaker
Two, kindness improves mental health being, mental health being,
00:24:57
Speaker
releases feel good hormones and which we both know when we do good things for the community, we feel good about it.
00:25:04
Speaker
So it releases hormones like oxytocin and serotonin, which helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.
00:25:11
Speaker
It's beneficial for both the giver and the receiver.
00:25:14
Speaker
Kindness strengthens relationships.
00:25:17
Speaker
Small acts of kindness such as compliments or helping out, build trust, and strengthen personal and professional relationships.
00:25:24
Speaker
Kindness boosts physical health.
00:25:25
Speaker
Practicing kindness has been linked to lower blood pressure, reduced inflammation, and improved heart health due to the release of oxytocin, often called the love hormone.
00:25:35
Speaker
And last but not least, kindness.
00:25:38
Speaker
Kindness can be learned, although some people might naturally exhibit more kindness than others.
00:25:43
Speaker
It's a skill that can be cultivated through conscious effort, mindfulness and empathy.
00:25:50
Speaker
Absolutely, absolutely.
00:25:51
Speaker
And, you know, it is, it's that sometimes it's the smallest things that, you know, you know,
00:25:59
Speaker
Someone smart, you know, you just like you give and you get back tenfold.
00:26:03
Speaker
So you think you're actually giving, but actually you're the one receiving because it's like so good for you.
00:26:10
Speaker
And, you know, there's the I'm going to say I have the same facts.
00:26:17
Speaker
Exactly the same facts.
00:26:19
Speaker
So I've got a statistic that I would say we'll stick with that because that's what I have.
00:26:25
Speaker
So it just shows that we don't swap notes and all the rest of it.
00:26:30
Speaker
But the thing is...
00:26:33
Speaker
People, I've got a stat here that's really important, is people that are kind have actually 23% less cortisol in their body.
00:26:44
Speaker
And cortisol is the stress hormone.
00:26:46
Speaker
And therefore, they say it slows down aging.
00:26:51
Speaker
So whilst you think you're doing for someone else, you are actually reducing your stress and reducing aging.
00:27:04
Speaker
Who's the winner, really?
00:27:05
Speaker
Cortisol is the worst thing for people.
00:27:09
Speaker
And I think that's like, you know, I know you and I, Maxie, we'll have a couple of days on the road next week.
00:27:15
Speaker
It'll invigorate us.
00:27:16
Speaker
We'll just love it in the same way that when we go and do a tour, how good do we feel at the end of a tour?
00:27:24
Speaker
Yeah, that's great.
00:27:24
Speaker
And what do we always say at the end of a tour?
00:27:27
Speaker
I could go another week.
00:27:28
Speaker
You could keep going.
00:27:30
Speaker
And it's, yeah, it's just the best feeling.
00:27:34
Speaker
So just be kind to somebody.
00:27:37
Speaker
And it doesn't have to be grand tours of things like that.
00:27:40
Speaker
It could be the person that's on our own sitting in the coffee shop.
00:27:44
Speaker
Just smile at them.
00:27:45
Speaker
Just say good morning.
00:27:47
Speaker
Just say good morning.
00:27:50
Speaker
You may be the only person that speaks to that person today.
00:27:54
Speaker
Yeah, it's very important.
00:27:59
Speaker
So, yeah, so good stuff.
00:28:01
Speaker
Excellent, excellent.
00:28:02
Speaker
Do you know, just while we're on that calondness, I'm going to – I've been a bit obsessed this week with –
00:28:08
Speaker
Children in Need in the UK is a massive fundraising initiative that helps many, many charities for disadvantaged
Charity ride by Paddy McGuinness and acts of kindness
00:28:16
Speaker
So Children in Need is like, I think, don't get me wrong, it's like the umbrella that raises the money.
00:28:22
Speaker
And then they'll work with charities, say, you know, the mental health charities, disabilities, all sorts of things on initiatives all over the UK.
00:28:32
Speaker
And this week, Paddy McGuinness, who is, again, another national treasurer in the UK, has decided to ride from Wrexham to Glasgow on a rally chopper bike, which was the bike, if you were a kid in the 70s, you wanted a chopper.
00:28:49
Speaker
And he's similar age to us, so he's got his chopper and he's doing this ride.
00:28:54
Speaker
And the kids are coming out in the schools.
00:28:58
Speaker
They literally fuel it.
00:28:59
Speaker
The wheels on this bike are like...
00:29:02
Speaker
No bigger than a dustbin lid.
00:29:03
Speaker
You know what I mean?
00:29:04
Speaker
He's like literally... And honestly, he's being carried along on the wave of kindness.
00:29:11
Speaker
And you think, oh, that would be great.
00:29:12
Speaker
He took the flat road.
00:29:14
Speaker
He went through the Lake District, which anyone who knows the Lake District, that's serious hill climbing on a chopper.
00:29:22
Speaker
So I'm a bit obsessed with it, but he's doing really well.
00:29:25
Speaker
And a lady said to him...
00:29:28
Speaker
She threw three pounds in the bucket and she said, I'm sorry, it's only three pounds.
00:29:34
Speaker
It's all I've got.
00:29:36
Speaker
And he said to her,
00:29:38
Speaker
If you have given three pounds and it's all you've got, that is way more to somebody that's got so much and is giving 1%.
00:29:48
Speaker
If you're giving all you've got, you're the hero to me.
00:29:52
Speaker
And it's those little stories that just, I can't help but watch the videos and feel good about it.
00:29:57
Speaker
So, yeah, kindness, absolutely love it.
00:30:00
Speaker
So, yeah, good stuff.
00:30:02
Speaker
All righty, Maxie, what have we got next then?
Final road trip plans and Coldplay playlist addition
00:30:13
Speaker
Yeah, just, babe, we've spoken about it before, but back on the road.
00:30:16
Speaker
It's our last road trip for 2024.
00:30:18
Speaker
It's going to be action-packed a few days.
00:30:21
Speaker
But, yeah, it's looking forward to getting back up to Newcastle.
00:30:24
Speaker
We were up there last year and the year before.
00:30:26
Speaker
So it is a good part of the world.
00:30:29
Speaker
Yeah, we're going to be doing some good videos and we're going to be seeing some great people at schools and, yeah,
00:30:35
Speaker
It's our last little road trip.
00:30:37
Speaker
It's been a big, big year.
00:30:39
Speaker
We had that great trip out Surratt.
00:30:41
Speaker
We've done some trips out around Sydney.
00:30:44
Speaker
We've done some trips around Brisbane and Gold Coast.
00:30:47
Speaker
So, yeah, it's good.
00:30:50
Speaker
And if you think about it, Maxie, as we were talking, because Nick was with us yesterday, it's hard to believe that our February event was actually only this year.
00:31:06
Speaker
It was like, it was only this time last year that I finished my keynote.
00:31:11
Speaker
I didn't start learning it until January.
00:31:14
Speaker
So one of the things I'm going to try and get to do this week, I'm going to ask you if you can help me do it, Maxi.
00:31:19
Speaker
We're going to get that whole speech up on our YouTube because we've got some videos.
00:31:23
Speaker
Our Q&A needs to go up on our YouTube.
00:31:25
Speaker
We'll put that on our job list for this week.
00:31:27
Speaker
We can do our road trip and get on a bit of administration.
00:31:31
Speaker
So, yes, looking forward to catching up next week and meeting some more amazing people.
00:31:37
Speaker
So, Playlist Maxi, at last, you are converted to the light side.
00:31:43
Speaker
yeah bring it on without rubbing it in it's not a take that song this week because we didn't get to see him or you didn't get to see him however coldplay i've added sky full of stars um it's a great song yeah and it's in the playlist and yeah i'm dare say over the next couple of months we can add some take that songs and we can also add some more play songs but yeah um absolutely yeah it's brilliant brilliant love it love coldplay um
00:32:12
Speaker
up there with Fix You.
00:32:14
Speaker
Fix You is one of my favourites.
00:32:16
Speaker
So many good songs after so many years.
00:32:19
Speaker
And when you go back and look at some of their early YouTube stuff, they were young.
00:32:26
Speaker
Great, great song.
00:32:32
Speaker
There were four lads at Bristol Uni.
00:32:34
Speaker
I think that was where they all met.
00:32:36
Speaker
Literally started playing guitars in the dorms.
00:32:38
Speaker
And they're all still together, which is amazing too.
00:32:41
Speaker
Yeah, all store, four best mates.
00:32:45
Speaker
All right, so rule for the rule book, my C, perfect.
Closing thoughts and sign-off with a Coldplay quote
00:32:48
Speaker
Yeah, rule for the rule book.
00:32:49
Speaker
Another quote from Coldplay.
00:32:53
Speaker
So the scientists, nobody said it was easy.
00:33:00
Speaker
Well, on that note, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it.
00:33:04
Speaker
So, yeah, so great quote.
00:33:07
Speaker
And we just got to 33 minutes, Maxi.
00:33:10
Speaker
Rob will be happy.
00:33:12
Speaker
Rob will be happy.
00:33:14
Speaker
And, yeah, so excellent stuff.
00:33:17
Speaker
I hope everyone's had a really, really great week.
00:33:20
Speaker
And, yeah, stay safe out there.
00:33:23
Speaker
And we'll see you next week with the Tales of the Road Trip.
00:33:27
Speaker
Yes, see you next week, Tales of the Road Trip.
00:33:29
Speaker
I look forward to it.
00:33:30
Speaker
And hopefully we've got a couple of guests up our sleeve as well that we'll be hopefully talking to soon.
00:33:37
Speaker
So take care, everyone.
00:33:40
Speaker
We've got quite a few guests coming up.
00:33:43
Speaker
And safe drive to Newcastle.
00:33:45
Speaker
I'll see you there.
00:33:47
Speaker
We'll meet in the middle.
00:33:50
Speaker
See you, everyone.
