Celebrating 2025 and Reviewing Past Achievements

00:00:41
Speaker
First podcast back for 2025.
00:00:43
Speaker
How are you this week, Lee?
00:00:46
Speaker
Welcome to Born.
00:00:47
Speaker
I am...
00:00:48
Speaker
Fabulous.
00:00:48
Speaker
Happy New Year.
00:00:50
Speaker
Are we still saying that on the 22nd of January?
00:00:53
Speaker
I think so.
00:00:53
Speaker
Are we just on the, you know, we're just on the cusp.
00:00:57
Speaker
Happy New Year, people.
00:00:58
Speaker
Welcome back.
00:00:59
Speaker
This is number one of 2025.
00:01:01
Speaker
Number one.
00:01:03
Speaker
What a six, seven weeks it's been.
00:01:06
Speaker
I hope everyone's enjoyed the guests.
00:01:08
Speaker
It's been some amazing special guests over the Christmas break.
00:01:11
Speaker
Some great guests.
00:01:13
Speaker
And, yeah, this is an action-packed podcast.
00:01:16
Speaker
We're going to be talking all the stuff that happened while we're off and the current stuff, which is very exciting.
00:01:23
Speaker
Well, you know, it's always nice to have a bit of a slowdown and a shutdown over Christmas, Maxie.
00:01:28
Speaker
It is.
00:01:30
Speaker
It is.
00:01:30
Speaker
We haven't really stopped considering.
00:01:33
Speaker
But that doesn't happen in Live Learn Survive Land.
00:01:35
Speaker
So as people may know or are starting to find out.
00:01:41
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:01:42
Speaker
So...
00:01:46
Speaker
As ever, hanging on by the fingertips, let's go.
00:01:49
Speaker
So start the year.
00:01:51
Speaker
What was the first quote?
00:01:53
Speaker
And I think, you know, when I picked this quote out, Maxie, I kind of knew I had someone in mind that I was dedicating it to, but we couldn't share it.
00:02:02
Speaker
But now we can.
00:02:03
Speaker
So there you go.
00:02:05
Speaker
Off goes the quote.
00:02:06
Speaker
Okay, the quote this week, Lee, is only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve success.
00:02:14
Speaker
Greatly.
00:02:14
Speaker
Amazing.
00:02:16
Speaker
So, yeah, only those that ever... Here we go.
00:02:20
Speaker
Dare to fail greatly will ever achieve greatly.
00:02:24
Speaker
And we're kind of dedicating that to our man, Harrison, who we're going to be talking about soon.
00:02:32
Speaker
But Harrison, Harrison, Harrison, so good they named him three times in our world at the moment.
00:02:40
Speaker
So what a legend.
00:02:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:02:43
Speaker
And we'll talk about it, yeah, very, very shortly.
00:02:45
Speaker
But yeah, what a great start to the year.
00:02:48
Speaker
You know, everything's going good on my end.
00:02:53
Speaker
Sunny's growing, which is amazing.
00:02:55
Speaker
Yeah, Live Learn Survive is thriving.
00:02:58
Speaker
Been still managing to go exercise most days, which is good for the body and good for the mind, as we always talk about.
00:03:05
Speaker
And a couple of lifeguard shifts in between, a busy period on the beaches.
00:03:09
Speaker
So we're going to be talking a lot about that as well.
00:03:12
Speaker
Well, you're smashing it, Dad.
00:03:13
Speaker
I mean, you don't look like, you know, disheveled and all the rest of it.
00:03:16
Speaker
You know, Sonny is just thriving.
00:03:19
Speaker
And, yeah, you know, hats off to you and Mum.
00:03:22
Speaker
And, you know, here we go.
00:03:26
Speaker
So, yeah, so let's start then, Maxie.
00:03:28
Speaker
Good news.
00:03:29
Speaker
Good news.
00:03:30
Speaker
What have we got?

Charity Milestone: Achieving DGR Status

00:03:36
Speaker
Yeah, plenty of good news this week, Lee.
00:03:39
Speaker
But first and foremost, our charity has gone up in the world.
00:03:43
Speaker
It's top tier these days, very top tier, and we have got DGR status.
00:03:48
Speaker
Can you explain to everyone at home what that means?
00:03:51
Speaker
I absolutely can.
00:03:52
Speaker
So not every charity has DGR status.
00:03:54
Speaker
So you can, you know, the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission,
00:03:59
Speaker
assess charities and and the first step is you become a registered charity which is what we have been for the last couple of years or so um to get to be a dgr charity basically you have to be classed what is called a pbi lots of acronyms today a pbi is a public benevolent institution which means the the the predominantly the majority of our work
00:04:26
Speaker
is basically focused on the children that need it most, so that no child gets left behind.
00:04:33
Speaker
And we've always had this in our vision and our mission, and it's always how we've targeted any funds that we've had.
00:04:41
Speaker
And by assessing all of that work, we have now been able to be declared a PBI, Public Benevolent Institution,
00:04:50
Speaker
The kids most in need are the ones that we're going to be focusing on with educating and helping.
00:04:58
Speaker
So they basically get a better chance at life, which is what we're all about.
00:05:03
Speaker
So when you are a PBI, you can have a status called DGR, which is given to you by the Australian Tax Office, which means any donations
00:05:16
Speaker
We're classed as a deductible gift recipient.
00:05:20
Speaker
So any people that donate us money can actually offset that against their tax, which is a massive incentive for a company that may want to make us a donation because technically they're getting 30%, 40% more back.
00:05:34
Speaker
So huge, huge...
00:05:44
Speaker
step forward for us, for the people that we might be a more attractive proposition to work with and really focusing on those kids that need it most.
00:05:54
Speaker
So unbelievable.
00:05:56
Speaker
I was dancing around the garden when we got the news.
00:05:58
Speaker
It was just like a massive day.
00:06:01
Speaker
And to have that come at the beginning of a new year, it's just almost like...
00:06:07
Speaker
Oh, here we go.
00:06:08
Speaker
So that is what it all means if people have been seeing us with those DGR things.
00:06:13
Speaker
So yes.
00:06:14
Speaker
It's very exciting.
00:06:15
Speaker
And it's a big achievement.
00:06:17
Speaker
And again, not every charity gets this opportunity.
00:06:20
Speaker
Absolutely.
00:06:21
Speaker
And a big shout out to our lawyers for...
00:06:24
Speaker
for helping us out over the last years.
00:06:27
Speaker
100% because it is incredibly, you know, it's not an easy thing to do as well.
00:06:32
Speaker
You have to, you know, the level of compliance with this is, you know, very detailed.
00:06:39
Speaker
So McCulloch Robertson, the lawyers in Sydney and other great cities are just our kind of people and we love them and are very grateful.
00:06:49
Speaker
So good stuff, good

Harrison Reid's Support on 'I'm a Celebrity'

00:06:51
Speaker
stuff.
00:06:51
Speaker
So as if that wasn't enough.
00:06:54
Speaker
Yes, we've got a special guest in the jungle for I'm a Celebrity Get Me Outta Here.
00:07:00
Speaker
Does this sound like rooms?
00:07:02
Speaker
Yeah, we've known for a little while because we're under NDA and we couldn't talk about it, but through the charity.
00:07:11
Speaker
But Harrison Reid, one of the lifeguards, you might know him from Bondi Rescue, is in the jungle currently.
00:07:18
Speaker
Today is day two, day three for him.
00:07:22
Speaker
And he's chosen Live, Land, Survive as his charity of choice.
00:07:27
Speaker
And what that means is if he wins the crown of the jungle, the king of the jungle, then $100,000 gets donated to our charity.
00:07:37
Speaker
And let me tell you, everyone at home, that $100,000, we'll turn that into millions of dollars because how we've worked over the last...
00:07:45
Speaker
15 years um we've we've you know by selling books we've squeezed every juice out of it um we will be able to get
00:07:58
Speaker
100,000 lemons and really make a lot of lemonade and orange juice.
00:08:02
Speaker
There's a really good analogy there.
00:08:04
Speaker
But it's going to help us a lot if we get him over the line.
00:08:07
Speaker
So because this is on YouTube and Spotify, YouTube, if you just go here, Lee, if you point over your shoulder.
00:08:13
Speaker
Oh, can we do this?
00:08:14
Speaker
Yep.
00:08:15
Speaker
Make sure if you are listening to this and you are in Australia.
00:08:19
Speaker
Oh, yeah.
00:08:20
Speaker
10play.com.au, vote for Harrison.
00:08:24
Speaker
You're allowed to vote for him up to 10 times a day or per trial or to keep him in the jungle.
00:08:31
Speaker
Tell your friends, pass it on.
00:08:33
Speaker
The more votes he gets, keeps him in the jungle and it gives him a chance to win the $100,000 free charity of Live, Learn, Survive.
00:08:40
Speaker
Yes.
00:08:41
Speaker
And while we're on the YouTube, what do the cool thing?
00:08:45
Speaker
What do the cool people say?
00:08:46
Speaker
Like something, subscribe?
00:08:48
Speaker
What's the thing?
00:08:49
Speaker
Like.
00:08:50
Speaker
subscribe and tell your friends.
00:08:53
Speaker
That's it.
00:08:53
Speaker
We made our own up.
00:08:54
Speaker
That's it.
00:08:54
Speaker
Just do it.
00:08:55
Speaker
Just subscribe.
00:08:56
Speaker
Where's the subscribe button?
00:08:57
Speaker
Do we do that as well?
00:08:59
Speaker
Yeah, somewhere.
00:09:00
Speaker
Anyway.
00:09:01
Speaker
Brilliant.
00:09:03
Speaker
We're super stoked.
00:09:04
Speaker
And Harrison's doing so well.
00:09:05
Speaker
And when he mentioned to me and you, Lee, that he was going to choose our charity,
00:09:11
Speaker
I'm not gonna lie, I got a little bit of a tear because a lot of people don't realize that I've worked with Harrison for the last 10 plus years.
00:09:18
Speaker
We also lived together for about three years back in the day.
00:09:22
Speaker
And I'm very close with Harrison.
00:09:25
Speaker
And I train with him most days down at the gym.
00:09:26
Speaker
So I spent a lot of time with him.
00:09:28
Speaker
Yes.
00:09:29
Speaker
And the fact that he pulled me aside, he goes, why wouldn't I support Live Learn Survive?
00:09:32
Speaker
I see what you guys do behind the scenes and in the public eye.
00:09:38
Speaker
So he's honored to do it for us.
00:09:40
Speaker
And we're so that he's in there representing us.
00:09:42
Speaker
And we didn't take it one bit, like, you know, we were almost like that, well, we're not big enough, we might not be eligible or whatever, but we have been.
00:09:51
Speaker
So, you know, I don't think we, until we literally had to hand over our logos and things, we kind of were thinking, this is not going to happen, but it did.
00:10:03
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:04
Speaker
And it has.
00:10:06
Speaker
It's been great to watch.
00:10:08
Speaker
Over the years, I've watched it a little bit, and I'm sure people that listen to this podcast from over in the UK and stuff, it's a pretty big show over in the UK.
00:10:16
Speaker
Huge.
00:10:17
Speaker
It's just good seeing a familiar face on your telly, even though I see him on Bono Rescue here and there.
00:10:22
Speaker
But he's doing really well.
00:10:24
Speaker
His first challenge was pretty crazy.
00:10:26
Speaker
He actually got bitten by a snake five times.
00:10:27
Speaker
Five times.
00:10:29
Speaker
And I anticipate maybe tonight or over the next few days he's going to be doing a trial and be up against it.
00:10:37
Speaker
We are doing our best to get him in those trials.
00:10:40
Speaker
But you know what?
00:10:41
Speaker
The loveliest thing for me was like seeing him.
00:10:43
Speaker
I actually think I shared it on my story.
00:10:47
Speaker
Just seeing him walk through the
00:10:49
Speaker
tunnel into the jungle was like, oh, you know, it was just so exciting to see him.
00:10:57
Speaker
And last night talking about his teddy bears on his surfboard.
00:11:00
Speaker
His teddy bears on the surfboard.
00:11:02
Speaker
Like, you know, that sort of stuff melts the heart.
00:11:05
Speaker
And it reminds me a lot of my people that know my background with wanting to become a firefighter.
00:11:10
Speaker
I used to sleep with a gun hose and my uncle's fire gear under the bed.
00:11:13
Speaker
So I know exactly exactly.
00:11:15
Speaker
where he's coming from, where he used to sit and watch the toys in the pool.
00:11:20
Speaker
I am so.
00:11:21
Speaker
Before he gets home, I'm getting him a teddy bear with a little Lidl and Survivor T-shirt.
00:11:26
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:27
Speaker
Yeah, perfect.
00:11:29
Speaker
So, yeah, Harrison.
00:11:31
Speaker
And the other good news, this is literally, I mean, this is going to go out on Friday.
00:11:36
Speaker
We're recording it Wednesday morning.
00:11:39
Speaker
So, really, the story has only been out 36 hours.
00:11:43
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:11:46
Speaker
Our phones have been blowing up.
00:11:49
Speaker
Thank you.
00:11:50
Speaker
Thank you.
00:11:51
Speaker
Thank you to everybody who is messaging us saying, how can I help?
00:11:55
Speaker
What can I do?
00:11:56
Speaker
What can I share?
00:11:57
Speaker
What can I help?
00:12:00
Speaker
And realise the importance of what we're doing.
00:12:03
Speaker
it really humbles me how many people that we forget we've got in our corner and that just like warms your heart.
00:12:11
Speaker
So, you know, it's gold, gold, gold.
00:12:14
Speaker
So, and then like you've, like we just said here, Maxi, first podcast back, we get to share this news.
00:12:20
Speaker
I know.
00:12:21
Speaker
And yeah, it's what a way to start the year.
00:12:23
Speaker
Yeah.
00:12:26
Speaker
So moving right along.
00:12:30
Speaker
From good news to bad news.
00:12:32
Speaker
What have we got, Lee?
00:12:34
Speaker
Oh, Maxie.
00:12:35
Speaker
Obviously, it's all about social media, this like, you know.
00:12:39
Speaker
And, you know, I did actually tag you.
00:12:42
Speaker
I was laughing.
00:12:43
Speaker
Lady Julia Morris has put a couple of stories off that made me really laugh because she was telling Robert Irwin how she was going to try and be cool this year.
00:12:52
Speaker
And with that, I tried to get back on TikTok this morning.
00:12:56
Speaker
All I've done is a talk to TikTok.
00:12:59
Speaker
um but oh man it's a young person's game maxi um i'm trying i'm trying i'm like you know just another thing so um that was my kind of unfortunate event it was almost like a oh welcome back who are you and where have you been we've moved we've moved on a bit since you were last here so um
00:13:21
Speaker
So, yeah, so Lee on the tickety-tock.
00:13:25
Speaker
So excellent.
00:13:26
Speaker
Thank you, guys.
00:13:27
Speaker
Now what have you got?
00:13:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:32
Speaker
It's a little bit more of a natural event.
00:13:34
Speaker
So I'm not sure if people are aware, but last week or Friday, this goes out Friday, but last Friday I worked at Bondi and we had a windstorm come through and it was the windy, it's a massive call, but it's the windiest Bondi has ever been for me witnessing in 18 years as a lifeguard.
00:13:53
Speaker
I've never seen so much sand get moved in six hours ever.
00:13:57
Speaker
um the wind gusts were up to 90 to 100 kilometers an hour uh we couldn't close the lifeguard door we had to use two or three lifeguards to push the door closed um we had sand literally get blown up the beach up the promenade into the parker up into the um into the pavilion my bike got absolutely decimated uh i got sand in all all through it all through the gears all through the
00:14:23
Speaker
Oh, no.
00:14:25
Speaker
Oh, no.
00:14:26
Speaker
Not more scooter issues.
00:14:28
Speaker
The scooter is still alive.
00:14:33
Speaker
This could be the end.
00:14:34
Speaker
But it's still going strong.
00:14:36
Speaker
But, yeah, it was just a crazy event.
00:14:39
Speaker
And the unfortunate part was is when I parked my

Bondi Beach Sandstorm Experience

00:14:42
Speaker
scooter that morning for that shift,
00:14:44
Speaker
I parked it pretty much exposed and at that time there was no sand.
00:14:47
Speaker
So when I walked up to the bike at seven, five past seven, the bike was surrounded by like a sand dune and, yeah, it wasn't ideal.
00:14:58
Speaker
Do you know what?
00:14:58
Speaker
Doesn't this show you that nature knows best?
00:15:00
Speaker
We're all just players in whatever's going on because It used to be a sand sorry
00:15:07
Speaker
Before roads and parks and buildings and houses was there, it was naturally a sand dune for hundreds or thousands of years.
00:15:16
Speaker
And it's just reminding you of that every now and again.
00:15:19
Speaker
Exactly right.
00:15:21
Speaker
With that said, could you just get it sorted out?
00:15:22
Speaker
Because I'm on my way on Tuesday and I've come to Bondi way too many times and it's rained.
00:15:27
Speaker
So I'm coming for a little.
00:15:29
Speaker
So I need to go and look at the weather before I start thinking about what I'm going to expect.
00:15:33
Speaker
I did check yesterday.
00:15:34
Speaker
There's about 30 workers in each given section pushing the sand back.
00:15:39
Speaker
So it's literally...
00:15:41
Speaker
You know, guys using shovels and brooms and pushing it all back onto the beach.
00:15:45
Speaker
So it's pretty cool.
00:15:46
Speaker
So 100 guys to get the sand back on the beach and Mother Nature just goes, I'll stop that.
00:15:52
Speaker
Give me a couple of hours.
00:15:54
Speaker
I can do it on my own.
00:15:55
Speaker
Exactly.
00:15:56
Speaker
So, yes, and that's why she's a woman.
00:15:59
Speaker
Anyway, didn't say that.
00:16:01
Speaker
Anyway, moving on.
00:16:02
Speaker
All righty.
00:16:03
Speaker
So what have we got?
00:16:04
Speaker
Job of the week.
00:16:05
Speaker
Job of the week.
00:16:13
Speaker
Yeah, so I'm still on paternity leave with the Fireys.
00:16:16
Speaker
I go back in February, which I'm very excited for.
00:16:20
Speaker
I'm looking forward to getting back into the Action Station.
00:16:22
Speaker
It's been a whirlwind few weeks of not being on the truck, but the boys are ripping in.
00:16:29
Speaker
They're flying the flag high, and, yeah, I look forward to getting back in a couple of weeks.
00:16:32
Speaker
I bet you keep trying your uniform on, don't you?
00:16:34
Speaker
Yes, I do.
00:16:35
Speaker
I keep trying on.
00:16:36
Speaker
I have been doing a few lifeguard shifts in between, in between this leave.
00:16:42
Speaker
And yeah, I've had a couple of little jobs over the summer that I could talk about.
00:16:47
Speaker
I had a really decent dislocated knee and a very painful guy was playing soccer on the beach, knocked, dislocated his knee and,
00:16:55
Speaker
It was really cool to work with the paramedics to be able to help them put it back into place and kind of showed me how to do it.
00:17:02
Speaker
So if I do ever do come across some of the dislocated knee, I'll have a crack at maybe trying to put it back into place.
00:17:10
Speaker
We're not really trying to do that.
00:17:11
Speaker
But if someone, you know, if it's a family member or myself, then yeah, I'll be able to pop it back in.
00:17:18
Speaker
We had some big rescues, some big summer's days.
00:17:21
Speaker
We've had a few doozy storms come through as well, but it's been a lot of rescues.
00:17:25
Speaker
They're not filming the show this year.
00:17:27
Speaker
Yep.
00:17:28
Speaker
But in saying that, the crowds are big, the rescues are solid.
00:17:31
Speaker
We're doing a lot of first aids.
00:17:32
Speaker
We're getting amongst it.
00:17:33
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:36
Speaker
But, yeah, there's talk that the show might be coming back again next year.
00:17:39
Speaker
So we will see.
00:17:41
Speaker
So over this year, when I say next year, sorry, this year.
00:17:44
Speaker
This year.
00:17:45
Speaker
Whoa, crazy.
00:17:47
Speaker
So in December this year, the show may be coming back.
00:17:50
Speaker
There still talks about that, but I'll keep everyone posted over the next couple of months.
00:17:53
Speaker
Cool.
00:17:54
Speaker
But, yeah, it's been an interesting summer.
00:17:57
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:17:58
Speaker
We had a lifeguard race last week, which was really good.
00:18:01
Speaker
Yeah, how did that go?
00:18:02
Speaker
Who took it out?
00:18:03
Speaker
Give us the deal.
00:18:04
Speaker
Joel Belusky won it.
00:18:06
Speaker
The young guys got second and I can't remember who got third.
00:18:11
Speaker
But, anyway, it was a really good race.
00:18:12
Speaker
How did you get that?
00:18:14
Speaker
How did you go, Dad?
00:18:15
Speaker
About 20 of us did it, and I come around 8th.
00:18:18
Speaker
So I was pretty happy about it.
00:18:20
Speaker
So people at home, at 7 o'clock at night, just after all the guys finish, we paddle from Bondi to Bronte, which is about a 2-kilometre paddle, and then we swim from Bronte to Tamarama, and then we run from Tamarama back to Bondi.
00:18:35
Speaker
Huge.
00:18:35
Speaker
And the other day we did it just before that mega, mega, mega storm rolled through.
00:18:40
Speaker
Huge storm.
00:18:41
Speaker
Big storm, probably one of the biggest storms that's hit Sydney this year or the last few years.
00:18:47
Speaker
But we're so glad that we finished the race before it kicked in because, you know, the winds were wild, the lightning, thunder, all in between.
00:18:55
Speaker
And unfortunately someone did pass away in that storm.
00:18:57
Speaker
Yeah, they did.
00:18:58
Speaker
I saw that.
00:18:59
Speaker
Wasn't it a tree or something?
00:19:01
Speaker
Yeah, so, you know, it's Mother Nature, again, up to its tricks of making sure, showing everyone who's boss.
00:19:08
Speaker
But, yeah, we love the race.
00:19:10
Speaker
Considering I did the race two years ago, but when I did it two years ago, I come last because I went the wrong line with the swim at Tamarama for the
00:19:20
Speaker
for the, there was a massive fire and I went the wrong way and I got stuck.
00:19:23
Speaker
And so it was good to kind of get midfield again.
00:19:26
Speaker
I have been training a fair bit.
00:19:28
Speaker
So it was good to kind of test out and see and, you know, um, jungle edge.
00:19:34
Speaker
Adventure racing, we're back in April this year.
00:19:37
Speaker
So I'm going to start doing a bit of the longer stuff, a lot of the more endurance stuff.
00:19:41
Speaker
So hopefully, you know, I build a big base for the three-peat of Jungle Edge doing the Terra Nova down the south coast with Piers.
00:19:49
Speaker
I'm looking forward to it.
00:19:51
Speaker
I had a thought about this, Maxi.
00:19:52
Speaker
What have you had a thought?
00:19:53
Speaker
Jungle is becoming a bit of a theme for the year.
00:19:56
Speaker
It is.
00:19:57
Speaker
Jungle.
00:19:58
Speaker
Jungle Edge.
00:19:59
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:00
Speaker
Jungle Edge, Jungle Harrison.
00:20:03
Speaker
Jungle Harrison.
00:20:04
Speaker
I was like, Jungle, Jungle, like, anyway.
00:20:09
Speaker
Anyway, so we've started really, really well, Maxie, because I just realised what we missed.
00:20:14
Speaker
That jokes.
00:20:15
Speaker
That jokes, of course.
00:20:16
Speaker
Look at us, as slick as ever.
00:20:19
Speaker
Slick as ever.
00:20:20
Speaker
Here we go.
00:20:21
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:21
Speaker
What have we got?
00:20:22
Speaker
All right.
00:20:22
Speaker
Well, you go.
00:20:23
Speaker
You tell me what you've got.
00:20:24
Speaker
Stand by.
00:20:27
Speaker
You go first, Leah.
00:20:27
Speaker
I'm just getting mine up.
00:20:29
Speaker
Okay.
00:20:29
Speaker
So I'm just going to share with all the people on YouTube.
00:20:32
Speaker
Look what Maxie got me for Christmas.
00:20:35
Speaker
So if my dad jokes are rubbish all year, it's on you.
00:20:41
Speaker
Is this how you want to win the dad joke thing because you're just giving me, like,
00:20:46
Speaker
below par.
00:20:48
Speaker
So I've picked the first two off.
00:20:50
Speaker
All right, here we go.
00:20:51
Speaker
Here we go for the year.
00:20:54
Speaker
Courtesy of Max's Christmas present.
00:20:57
Speaker
Why did the ghost ride the elevator?

Adding Humor with Dad Jokes

00:21:02
Speaker
Why did the ghost ride the elevator?
00:21:04
Speaker
Sorry, I'm going to cough.
00:21:07
Speaker
The ghost rode the elevator to lift his spirits.
00:21:11
Speaker
Blomp, blomp, blomp.
00:21:15
Speaker
That's a good one.
00:21:17
Speaker
Exactly.
00:21:18
Speaker
What's a tiger's favourite holiday?
00:21:21
Speaker
Oh, jungle orientated.
00:21:22
Speaker
What's a tiger's favourite day, I should say.
00:21:27
Speaker
What's a tiger's favourite day?
00:21:32
Speaker
I don't know, Maxie.
00:21:33
Speaker
What's a tiger's favourite day?
00:21:35
Speaker
Friday.
00:21:35
Speaker
Friday.
00:21:41
Speaker
Ah, there's some bad ones here.
00:21:42
Speaker
Sorry.
00:21:43
Speaker
Ah, okay.
00:21:43
Speaker
All right.
00:21:44
Speaker
My second one, courtesy of the dad jokes.
00:21:48
Speaker
Did you hear the joke about peanut butter?
00:21:54
Speaker
No, I didn't hear about the joke.
00:21:56
Speaker
Not telling you.
00:21:56
Speaker
You might spread it.
00:21:59
Speaker
Excellent.
00:22:03
Speaker
I did a snake go to school.
00:22:08
Speaker
Oh, I don't know, Maxie.
00:22:09
Speaker
Why did the snake go to school?
00:22:11
Speaker
To improve his s-history.
00:22:19
Speaker
I am so impressed there.
00:22:21
Speaker
You got two jungle orientated.
00:22:23
Speaker
You brought the snake in.
00:22:25
Speaker
I did.
00:22:26
Speaker
We're looping people through this story.
00:22:30
Speaker
We started off with Harrison being bitten by the snake and now you've got the snake.
00:22:34
Speaker
Dad joke.
00:22:35
Speaker
We're all over this.
00:22:36
Speaker
I don't even, who even are we?
00:22:38
Speaker
Anyone think we plan this?
00:22:40
Speaker
Anyway, so tip of the week.
00:22:43
Speaker
Give us what we've got.
00:22:44
Speaker
Let's love this lesson.
00:22:52
Speaker
Yeah, tip of the week this week, Lee, is floating.
00:22:55
Speaker
About a year ago, I did a video in the back of your pool about how to float and some of the tricks and tips and to explain that everyone can float if they're taught how to, which is a very important skill to learn.
00:23:07
Speaker
Absolutely.
00:23:07
Speaker
And recently when we were up in Newcastle, we filmed a little 10-second grab.
00:23:13
Speaker
So that goes live today.
00:23:15
Speaker
People are going to start seeing on our socials little grabs in our new...
00:23:20
Speaker
Sorry, a new polo and like a new kind of style of videos that we're recording.
00:23:25
Speaker
We're a little bit more sophisticated these days with a bit more planning, which is good.
00:23:31
Speaker
And we're getting the real hard key facts out there for people at home that like to kind of scroll through Insta or TikTok and that or YouTube shorts.
00:23:41
Speaker
And then they've got five or 10 seconds to kind of get the message across.
00:23:44
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:23:45
Speaker
Absolutely.
00:23:46
Speaker
This week is floating.
00:23:47
Speaker
Absolutely.
00:23:48
Speaker
And while we talk about that and the tip of the week, last chat yesterday, 67 drownings since the beginning of summer, which is December the 1st.
00:23:59
Speaker
So considering what?
00:24:00
Speaker
I think we're seven or eight in front last year.
00:24:03
Speaker
And we're up on the 10-year average.
00:24:05
Speaker
So what are we now?
00:24:07
Speaker
That was like literally 24 hours ago.
00:24:09
Speaker
So that's 31, 22, 33, whatever, 53 days, 67 drownings, more than one a day this summer.
00:24:17
Speaker
And Australia Day weekend coming up is always a key weekend.
00:24:23
Speaker
Please stay safe, people.
00:24:25
Speaker
It's going to be 37 degrees in Brisbane today.
00:24:29
Speaker
Just stay safe, people.
00:24:30
Speaker
Make sure.
00:24:30
Speaker
Stay safe.
00:24:31
Speaker
Look after yourself.
00:24:32
Speaker
Yeah, look after yourself.
00:24:34
Speaker
So, yeah, there we go.
00:24:36
Speaker
So, excellent tip, Maxie.
00:24:38
Speaker
If you just do nothing else and you've got little kids, teach them how to swim.
00:24:43
Speaker
Start of water.
00:24:43
Speaker
And they'll teach them how to float.
00:24:45
Speaker
So, perfect, perfect.
00:24:47
Speaker
All righty.
00:24:48
Speaker
So, facts.
00:24:49
Speaker
What have we got, Maxie?
00:24:57
Speaker
Yeah, again, I'm keeping to the jungle theme.

Amazon Facts and Jungle Theme Discussion

00:25:01
Speaker
The Amazon produces 20% of Earth's oxygen.
00:25:05
Speaker
Known as the lungs of the planet, the Amazon rainforest generates a massive amount of the world's oxygen through its vast canopy of trees.
00:25:14
Speaker
There are more species in a jungle than anywhere else on Earth.
00:25:18
Speaker
Rainforests are home to over 50% of the world's plants and animals, even though they cover less than 7% of Earth's land surface.
00:25:25
Speaker
Wow.
00:25:25
Speaker
Wow, that's impressive.
00:25:27
Speaker
It rains a lot, like a lot.
00:25:29
Speaker
Tropical rainforests can receive up to 400 inches of rain each year.
00:25:33
Speaker
That's more water than most cities get in a decade.
00:25:36
Speaker
Ooh, that's huge.
00:25:37
Speaker
Ooh, massive.
00:25:38
Speaker
Some jungle plants can eat insects.
00:25:41
Speaker
Carnivorous plants like the pitcher plant and the Venus flytrap thrive in the jungle using clever traps to catch their meals.
00:25:51
Speaker
Jungles have rivers hidden in trees.
00:25:55
Speaker
In cloud forests, water vapor from the clouds condenses on leaves forming a miniature stream that trickled down creating unique ecosystems.
00:26:04
Speaker
Wow, that's pretty cool.
00:26:06
Speaker
I tell you what, there's some incredible stats on trees in there and how trees talk to each other and the roots and things underground.
00:26:15
Speaker
Blows your mind some of the stuff on that.
00:26:17
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:26:19
Speaker
Insane.
00:26:19
Speaker
Insane.
00:26:21
Speaker
So I've got a few things on jungles and I went to South Africa.
00:26:26
Speaker
So what we've got in South Africa, so Africa's largest national park is the Kruger National Park.
00:26:34
Speaker
It covers 2 million hectares.
00:26:38
Speaker
So given what you were just saying about, you know, only 7% of the planet covering the planet, but 50% of the species, that's insane.
00:26:48
Speaker
It's home to the big five, lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and cape buffaloes.
00:26:57
Speaker
It's also home to the big six bird species, and they are lappet-faced vultures, martial eagles, saddle-billed storks, quarry bustards, and pelz fishing owls, and grounded hornbills.
00:27:16
Speaker
Wow.
00:27:16
Speaker
I've never even heard of some of those names.
00:27:20
Speaker
It also serves as a sanctuary for endangered species.
00:27:24
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:27:25
Speaker
So many of them on the planet, including the African wild dog.
00:27:29
Speaker
Again, never even heard of it.
00:27:32
Speaker
And also, the park protects about half of the world's black and white rhino population.
00:27:39
Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
00:27:42
Speaker
93% of the world's black and white rhino population, and half of them are in the park, and the park is home to about 12,000 rhinos.
00:27:50
Speaker
That's not a lot, is it, when you think of numbers?
00:27:53
Speaker
No, considering.
00:27:54
Speaker
Incredible, incredible wildlife.
00:27:57
Speaker
So, yeah, there's just a little bit.
00:27:58
Speaker
Don't exactly know which bit of the where in the jungle Harrison is, but.
00:28:05
Speaker
The big five is now the big six.
00:28:07
Speaker
They've got Harrison too.
00:28:10
Speaker
Happy days.
00:28:11
Speaker
I wonder if anyone's on a safari.
00:28:13
Speaker
There's a Harrison.
00:28:15
Speaker
Spotted.
00:28:16
Speaker
Spotted.
00:28:16
Speaker
Ticket on the list.
00:28:17
Speaker
Brilliant.
00:28:18
Speaker
All righty.
00:28:18
Speaker
So enough of that rubbish reflection.
00:28:29
Speaker
Yeah, reflection, you know, on the head, Lee, how crazy this journey is.
00:28:34
Speaker
You know, the support that we've had the last couple of days, you know, getting the DGR status for the charity.
00:28:41
Speaker
There's some really good ideas for fundraising and ideas for this year.
00:28:47
Speaker
Basically, just going from strength to strength and trying to, you know, people that have been following the journey for a long time, we'll see how far we've come.
00:28:54
Speaker
And it's a crazy ride, but we love it.
00:28:57
Speaker
Yeah, it never, ever ceases to blow my mind.
00:29:01
Speaker
And, you know, with what I think still, like, you know, people will not believe how still tiny we are from a point of, you know, hands-on doing the work.
00:29:13
Speaker
And, you know, it just goes to show what you can do if you just have got enough passion and drive and don't ever think you can't.
00:29:22
Speaker
I could not believe that, you know, there's only...
00:29:27
Speaker
12 charities nominated for that tv show which is on tv every night i am so grateful that we are in that mix there wouldn't be a charity in australia would not want to swap position with us and we are not going to waste it we are going to do everything we can so crazy
00:29:46
Speaker
hang on for the ride and just whatever your crazy may be, just go for it.
00:29:52
Speaker
Go for it.
00:29:53
Speaker
You might surprise yourself.
00:29:54
Speaker
100%.
00:29:55
Speaker
Exactly.
00:29:56
Speaker
Yeah.
00:29:58
Speaker
And, yeah, for the playlist, the Spotify playlist, people that listen to our Spotify playlist, Live, Learn, Survive, Lie and Sleep Tonight is the song that we're going to be adding to it.
00:30:09
Speaker
So it is very jungle theme this week, but, yeah, it's a good song.
00:30:13
Speaker
It's a classic and it's added to the playlist.
00:30:15
Speaker
We're excited.
00:30:16
Speaker
It's like, you know, so we hope our little lion out there is sleeping well on his camp bed.
00:30:23
Speaker
You know, we can't wait to see him getting a trial.
00:30:28
Speaker
I actually want to see him doing one of the hike things.
00:30:32
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:33
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:34
Speaker
I'm really hoping.
00:30:35
Speaker
I want one of them.
00:30:35
Speaker
I'm actually, you know, that's like, you know, one of the things I really want to do.
00:30:40
Speaker
We've still got another three and a half weeks to go.
00:30:42
Speaker
So we'll see.
00:30:42
Speaker
Yeah, I think so.
00:30:44
Speaker
I think so.
00:30:44
Speaker
So, yeah, great song for the playlist.
00:30:47
Speaker
And then, yeah, you wrap us out, Maxie, with Rule for the Rulebook.
00:30:56
Speaker
Yeah, Rule for the Rulebook this week, Lee, is just go for it.
00:30:59
Speaker
What are you waiting for?
00:31:00
Speaker
Just have a crack.
00:31:01
Speaker
New year, new you.
00:31:03
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:03
Speaker
You know, just be positive, be kind, give back and just go for it.
00:31:08
Speaker
Be the best version of yourself.
00:31:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:11
Speaker
If you had a thought that what you were going to do on January 1st and like, you know, now we're in the third week of January, you're starting to talk yourself out of it.
00:31:20
Speaker
Don't.
00:31:22
Speaker
My calendar today says don't hide the madness.
00:31:25
Speaker
And I said that when I did a little story this morning.
00:31:32
Speaker
If you've got three weeks in and you're starting to doubt yourself, don't.
00:31:35
Speaker
Keep going.
00:31:36
Speaker
Have a crack.
00:31:37
Speaker
This is your message and sign to get back on track and go for it.
00:31:42
Speaker
So, you know, that's what we're trying to do.
00:31:45
Speaker
And, you know, we don't know everything.
00:31:49
Speaker
Just work it out as you go along.
00:31:50
Speaker
Just have a go.
00:31:51
Speaker
Just chipping away.
00:31:52
Speaker
Exactly.
00:31:53
Speaker
So, yeah, so next week I'm going to be with you.
00:31:56
Speaker
Bondi, baby.
00:31:57
Speaker
We'll be down at Bondi and we can hopefully find a good little spot to get it done.
00:32:02
Speaker
So it'll be good.
00:32:03
Speaker
We'll give you a Harrison update and we'll give you an update of everything else in between of what Live, Learn, Survive is doing.
00:32:09
Speaker
Yeah.
00:32:09
Speaker
And what we're trying to do is, um, I think we're going to go live on Instagram tonight, which is, well, hang on, that's irrelevant because this is Friday.
00:32:17
Speaker
People won't know that, but we will be going live again and we're just trying to be out there a little bit more present.
00:32:23
Speaker
Um, um, you know, not just while Harrison's injured, we're going to make a bit more of an effort through the year to just, um, you know, um, give people a bit more regular updates.
00:32:34
Speaker
So thanks for listening.
00:32:35
