Jo
It worked.
00:00:21
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, it worked.
00:00:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
What's that?
00:00:28
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Sorry.

Show Introduction and Welcome

00:00:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, look, it's Tactic Tuesday and I'm your host, Ian McKay. Very pleased to welcome you all from all over the world. I'm joined by my... yeah The feminine side of the Daily Newcastle team.
00:00:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello Joanne.
00:00:51
Jo
Hello.

Team's Tactics and League Position

00:00:53
Jo
I'll be Michael tonight.
00:00:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and hello Nicola.
00:00:56
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Hello
00:00:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
you You've got to be careful. you've got to be a happy clapper tonight.
00:01:01
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I am
00:01:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
It seems a bit ironic that we're meant to be talking about tactics Tuesday and and about tactics when
00:01:03
Jo
Act.
00:01:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
and when we didn't really have any on Saturday. But I have named the, I think we did have some, we just had a whole team of players who couldn't do the tactics.
00:01:14
Jo
Act.
00:01:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I have called this episode, shall we just pretend that the Manchester City game never happened?
00:01:28
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:01:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's what we need to do, isn't it?
00:01:29
Jo
yeah Let's let's agree.
00:01:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because oh ultimately we are still in a very strong position. I know we would have taken it before we went on our nine run game. Um, Still only six points behind Nottingham Forest, with them to come at home on Saturday, who were in third place. um
00:01:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
plug Good results for part of Manchester City won, I believe, on the weekend. But, Celtic didn't. They were only due. Forest lost, I think, at Fulham. So, we didn't really lose much ground against the rest of our rivals.
00:02:01
Jo
Yeah.
00:02:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
So,
00:02:08
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Agreed.

Optimism Despite Setbacks

00:02:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
so
00:02:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Bearing in mind that that Manchester City game never happened, how are you feeling about the rest of the season Joanne?
00:02:21
Jo
I'm not going to be negative at all because I'm not feeling negative. Because like you said, look, we obviously have issues with the Etihad. We'll acknowledge that it happened. Okay, it's fine.
00:02:32
Jo
we can We can be big like that and we can move on from stuff like that. But i' it look, it's it's a massive shame that we didn't capitalise because like you've just pointed out, the other the results did go our way, majorly, at the weekend.
00:02:43
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yep.
00:02:44
Jo
So... let's try and see it as a bonus like you say that the others kind of didn't pull further away at the same point and it's not like we've lost to a team that are like dog if you know what i mean um they are an excellent team we let them be an excellent team i stopped myself there um yeah but you come on you guys know what i mean by this um it was one of those that i think we went all kind of excited and we were all predicting wins and stuff like that but
00:03:00
Nicola Pringle-Adams
oh
00:03:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
hmm.
00:03:11
Jo
I want to go back to that and I want to kind of still be positive about the Forest game at the weekend because Forest, as we've just seen, Fulham can beat them.

Effort and Potential Changes

00:03:20
Jo
It's not like it's a game we can't beat win, but bang on what you've just said, by the way, um the tactics need be right.
00:03:26
Jo
And if the tactics aren't right, the right changes need to be made. and I think that's the only thing I would say against Eddie because me my dad had a little conversation earlier on today, which he wasn't best pleased with Eddie, but I refused to put it all on Eddie.
00:03:39
Jo
The players didn't turn up. ah To me, it's the players.
00:03:40
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Mm-hmm.
00:03:41
Jo
Apart from Big Dan Byrne and Lewis Miley, I didn't see anything from anyone on that pitch. So to me, that's a player issue. All right, Eddie could have tweaked the tactics, but he didn't.
00:03:52
Jo
But that's the only thing I would put on. But, you know, let's see what he does at Forest. Let's see if he does change anything. And if he doesn't, we'll see you how the game pans out. But, yeah, I'm i'm feeling all right, I'll be honest.
00:04:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we should come on to looking forward to the tactics in that Forest game in the second part.
00:04:07
Jo
Hmm.
00:04:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm just interested in gauging where you Goyles are with the rest of the season after the damaging hour and a half that we spent on Saturday watching that game.
00:04:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now I know Nicola wasn't watching it, were you, darling? You were absolutely drunk out of your head, and then kept drinking for another six hours after the game finished.
00:04:25
Jo
the dream.
00:04:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
So God knows how you got home, but presumably you've been able to catch up.
00:04:31
Jo
She doesn't know either.
00:04:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
and but How are you feeling about the rest of the season?
00:04:39
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um firstly I almost am a bit thankful that i didn't have to watch the 90 minutes um of what you guys watch when your messages were coming through i was a bit like oh dearie me um I think me and Michael were both in the same same boat there so yeah um I look I'm not going hit panic mode because we're not there's no need for us to be in panic mode I said this yesterday before um we had our technical difficulty on our podcast Joe but um
00:04:48
Jo
you
00:05:04
Nicola Pringle-Adams
The only thing I will say about the rest of the season is that these games that we are now you know going to be facing before the final and obviously after the final um are so pivotal, obviously, where we finish the league and will ultimately, these games are going to be the ones that decide is Europe or not, um depending on how the rest of the obviously table perform around us.
00:05:24
Nicola Pringle-Adams
and
00:05:25
Jo
Yeah.
00:05:25
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So it's games like this. Now, look, Manchester City aren't exactly a team where I thought we would walk all over them, but I thought we would have turned up more than what we actually did. um after watching the highlights. But games like that and a couple of others that we've lost throughout the season, these are games we're going to look back and think, why why didn't we go and get a result if where we finish in the league doesn't go our way?
00:05:44
Jo
yeah
00:05:49
Nicola Pringle-Adams
But as the way I'm feeling about the rest of the season at the minute is quite positive. and We've got a lot to be positive about. We're still in two cups and obviously we're still high up in that Premier League table with barely much points in it between us and, what was it,
00:06:02
Nicola Pringle-Adams
third as in as ah third and fourth so yeah let's just forget Saturday ah Saturday happened let's put a big band-aid over that and um pretend that didn't happen what's now important is we're going into these next games we've got Forest on Sunday um and like Joe touched on the players have to have the right attitude and the right mentality and turn up in these in these next what we got 10 games left or whatever it is so maybe bit more than that but yeah
00:06:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
It didn't happen.
00:06:05
Jo
yeah
00:06:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
didn't have
00:06:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, thats that's more than that. That's more

Upcoming Matches Strategy

00:06:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
than that, actually. I think the Forest game is critical. we If we beat Forest and get to win three points of the team currently in third, we're still in it.
00:06:39
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:06:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're away at Liverpool after that. Now, does everybody loses at Liverpool, I guess. That's not a game that's going to determine whether we finish third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, whatever.
00:06:54
Nicola Pringle-Adams
no
00:06:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is the game after that, and we have some super winnable games. I mean, we've still got Man U to play at home. and we've still got Arsenal to play away, so that's six points in the bag, isn't it? and So yeah, I don't think we've got to be too worried about and about what happened on the weekend at all.
00:07:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm still very, very positive. I felt a bit silly by the end, but you remember me saying to you, Johan, during the game, i don't think we're playing that badly. It's just ah to talk about tactics.
00:07:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Eddie had some tactics to play the five at the back again. And I didn't think we were playing that that badly. But whether were the right tactics in that game, I'm not sure.
00:07:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because when we conceded the first goal, they should have changed and they didn't.
00:07:41
Jo
yeah
00:07:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I think Manchester City were looking very much like they have always looked up until this season.
00:07:47
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:07:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
They played really well. And let's be honest, they've got in Nico Gonzalez and Omar Mabush or whatever he's called, two new signings in January that ran the show for them.
00:08:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Without those two players in, if they were stuck like we are, where we can't spend any money, it would have a completely different game.
00:08:01
Jo
Yeah. Yeah. agree.
00:08:06
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Great. Yeah.
00:08:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
So where anyway, we have mentioned tactics upon doing that. And I do think that what is critical is that we beat the Nothing and Forest next, I'd say. I think it keeps us going.
00:08:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know Away at City, away at Liverpool, nobody's

Player Performance and Selection

00:08:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
picking up a lot of points from those games.
00:08:25
Jo
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:08:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
and If we don't, then we're just in with everybody else. We need to do better.
00:08:30
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Thank you.
00:08:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Like beating Tottenham home and away, like beating Arsenal home and away, which is still to come. Beating Man United home and away. they're they They're the sort of runs that we yeah we need to maintain to be able to finish in the top five places, which it's as though top five will be enough.
00:08:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
to get us into the Champions League. and
00:08:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to pause there to play an advert featuring the dulcet tones of the lovely Kenny David and our brand new sponsor all the way from Canada, Bionic.
00:09:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I believe it was Bionique that prescribed four bottles of Prosecco and a Patsy for Nicola on Saturday.
00:09:55
Jo
And I passed it.
00:09:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
And she's looking great on it. She's looking absolutely great on it.
00:09:58
Jo
She's so fine.
00:10:00
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I had a great time, guys.
00:10:02
Jo
I bet you did.
00:10:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
i mean
00:10:02
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I had an absolute great time. And because no one's everyone stopped replying to me in the group chat, I went to choose voice note and Joe separately.
00:10:09
Nicola Pringle-Adams
ah literally bombarded her Saturday night with my journey home.
00:10:09
Jo
It was wonderful.
00:10:10
Jo
Not going to lie.
00:10:14
Jo
It was comedy gold. It literally had me in stitches. So thanks again.
00:10:18
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, good.
00:10:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, you you should be able to upload all of those there sound files to be able to put onto ZenCaster and run an additional daily Newcastle podcast about the team member.

Tactical Changes Debate

00:10:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Michael's probably got the same. You can do the team members coming home from their days out. Honestly, starting at lunchtime, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.
00:10:40
Jo
Well, what we'll do, Ian?
00:10:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
But there we go.
00:10:40
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Right, there's no need to go all adult on me.
00:10:42
Jo
We'll use some your beatboxing.
00:10:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
I used to start at lunchtime many years ago.
00:10:43
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Oh,
00:10:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't. If I start drinking at lunchtime, I'm asleep by two o'clock. I don't even have to leave the pub. Just drop off.
00:10:51
Nicola Pringle-Adams
yeah.
00:10:51
Jo
um I mean, and Nick are going to be on it from 11.30 on um Sunday, aren't we, girl?
00:10:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
What can you do?
00:10:55
Nicola Pringle-Adams
oh yeah
00:10:57
Jo
We'll be fine.
00:10:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we I'll try and get up for them. at Sunday at home to Nottingham Forest.
00:11:04
Jo
That's it.
00:11:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Now, again, we can talk a little bit about tactics as it's Saturday on this game because we were well and truly ant-tastic last year when Nottingham Forest turned up on Boxing Day.
00:11:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:11:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Rodinho, or whatever you want to Chris Wood, scored a hat-pick. He never scored three goals in the whole bloody season and a half. He was with Newcastle at St. James' Park, but he got free in a game when he played for Forrest.
00:11:31
Jo
yeah
00:11:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Now, I do think that Newcastle Forrest approved this year that that wasn't a flush in the pan, and that perhaps we do need to rein in our all-out from minute one assault, which is how a lot of teams what a lot of teams face when they come to St James's Park with some slightly different tactics against Nottingham Forest.
00:11:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I'm not going to share straight away what I think they should be. I'm going to come to Nicola to see if he thinks we could speak, how we should speak, how we're playing, and if there needs to be any change of personnel for Sunday, for Saturday.
00:12:02
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:12:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sunday.
00:12:13
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Sunday, Saturday, Sunday, same thing. was in till one um for the weekend.
00:12:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
The other weekend.
00:12:19
Nicola Pringle-Adams
ah Guys, I, am like I say, I watched the Manchester City highlights. I i know I didn't watch the whole 90 minutes, um but it is quite clear that when our plan a whatever that plan A might be at that specific time, when that doesn't quite,
00:12:40
Nicola Pringle-Adams
click or work we don't have a plan b or a plan c or if we do i'm not seeing on the pitch um i don't know if you guys feel the same or if it's just maybe a case of players are tired i don't know um if you were to ask me what to change on the weekend um i honestly couldn't tell you you know i really don't know because the starting lineup he had for manchester city would have been my strongest in my opinion minus obviously joe linton being out um
00:13:11
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So I actually a bit out of ideas here, bit like Eddie at this moment time.
00:13:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, well, I mean, I think what they tried to do on the weekend was to play as five at the back and have Tyrion Trippier as the third centre-half with Murphino, Jacob Murphy, as ah as a wing-back, which the first 10, 15 minutes, they didn't get a lot of shots on goal.
00:13:28
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No, no, no.
00:13:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
We were holding them. But that's just sitting back and inviting trouble when it's Manchester City, I think, and then obviously...
00:13:45
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:13:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
The world's least complicated goal was scored because Krippier isn't 6'4", he's only 5'8", or something, and they're all wet over his head. um But at that point, I think could have we should have gone and tried to get on the front foot when we would didn't look like we were trying to get on the front foot.
00:14:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
There was no pressing.
00:14:06
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Mm-hmm.
00:14:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I personally think we need to revert to a much more front foot approach against nothing on Boris what do you and your dad think Joanne
00:14:17
Nicola Pringle-Adams
The thing is, yeah.
00:14:20
Jo
Me and my dad. um Probably good at thing that my dad isn't on this pod right now. We did have a good chat about it. My dad, as you can imagine, he's not at all positive about that game, not at all positive about the tactics, and very much not positive about the lack of change throughout the game from Eddie to try and, don't know, well, change the game, essentially.
00:14:41
Jo
Which I do kind of agree with them because I would have liked to have seen more of a change than what there was. Yeah. But again, it goes still goes back to what I said about the players, I'll be honest. I just don't think there was enough effort from anyone anyway.
00:14:53
Jo
Dan Byrne was the only one that did anything the first half. Miley came on, and even Eddie admits this in his post-match, that he essentially showed up the rest of the team. So you've got a teenager showing up the rest of the team.
00:15:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:15:04
Jo
So well done, lads. I'm not saying any of them are proud of themselves, by the way. I'm not saying any of them would be in in any shape or way happy with their performances. Bruno looked sick of his life, which um I like to see, by the way, from a captain.
00:15:13
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, he did.
00:15:15
Jo
I want to see that. I want him to kind of not come on and try and fluff it all up. He spelt it out exactly how it was. And again, like we said yesterday, there there was probably some harsh words said in the changing room as a result, but...
00:15:27
Jo
Moving forward, we're going have to do things differently against Forrest because Forrest, as we've seen, they're flying this season. More so than City, really. So, like, if we're going to kind of give anyone some respect, we need to give Forrest respect.
00:15:38
Jo
And especially Chris Wood. The guy's on fire this season, man.
00:15:41
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:15:42
Jo
um So, if anyone's scoring, I see him scoring. It's just out of respect for the fact that the guy... Well, not just him. The whole team's playing well, aren't they? So... I think it's a strange one, really, but out I would start Miley. I'd give him the start. He deserves it.
00:15:57
Jo
He's done enough. He's fit enough. um I don't know, because you I think I'm so disappointed with everyone. It's like you can't change out everyone, though. They just all need a rocket up their backside, and they need to start doing what they know they can do would be more my thing behind it.
00:16:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
and so
00:16:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
do I do agree with you that Miley came on and showed everybody up.
00:16:15
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, I said that yesterday.
00:16:16
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:16:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I didn't think Tino actually was that far behind him in coming on for Tiffier, and he certainly was a bright spark in the second half. um So there will be two changes in the starting XI for sure.
00:16:32
Jo
Yeah.
00:16:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Leave Willock and Tiffier out. ah mine and Kevin's tip for the players of the season who get a chance and completely ignore the possibilities of what they could do.
00:16:36
Jo
I agree.
00:16:42
Jo
Yeah.
00:16:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, leave them out bring you the other two in.
00:16:44
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Mm-hmm.
00:16:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
And just, I want Eddie to have, I want Eddie to have his one-to-ones again with the players when they were so awful in the second half against Brentford back at the start of December and and he had his one-to-ones with them and then they came and went on that run of nine wins.
00:17:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
and he's going to have to do the same thing again because I agree. Bruno, Tonali, completely anonymous.
00:17:12
Jo
Yeah.
00:17:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like they were... with it which Were we over-respectful? I don't know. we're not supposed to talk about this game because it never happened. But I think they, compared to last year, we have we have our secret weapon, Tonali, patrolling in front of the back four.
00:17:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'm not sure we will get called on the all caught on the transition. quite as badly as we did last year against Nottingham Forest.

Young Players' Initiative

00:17:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And then you've got to hope that the front three, all of them know that they've got to step up and put in some sort of performance.
00:17:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nicola, any other changes that you would have would bring through?
00:17:50
Nicola Pringle-Adams
hello
00:17:54
Nicola Pringle-Adams
what did i say before we went on this tangent did i say about taking care and trip you're out no that's one i don't like talking about trip that way but um he didn't have exactly the most amazing game did he um taking him out and then i am just looking um at my phone sorry because i've got notes on here um uh i've
00:18:00
Jo
No, but you're right if you're going to say that.
00:18:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
at no
00:18:07
Jo
No.
00:18:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nicola thinking that she makes notes before she comes on the podcast.
00:18:22
Nicola Pringle-Adams
they're right here um um yeah now I've lost my trailer thought oh yeah I'm still drunk um do we think we'll see him change do we think we'll see him take Char out and bring Botman back because he can't drop Dan Byrne
00:18:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry, no, I believe you.
00:18:24
Jo
miss
00:18:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I believe you. All right, darling. Sorry.
00:18:31
Jo
She's still drunk.
00:18:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry. you would
00:18:33
Jo
yeah
00:18:45
Jo
Is Botman fit?
00:18:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I know.
00:18:48
Jo
Is Botman back?
00:18:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
we and
00:18:51
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, well, he said his, I'm not sure, but he said his injury is not to be too serious.
00:18:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not sure.
00:18:56
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um
00:18:57
Jo
Dambone can't be dropped.
00:18:59
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Dambang can't be dropped. If it was, not like it's Dambang to me, I'm not on that sideline. I would probably, which I hate saying this, but I'd probably take Shah out and bring Bottman back. um If he's fit, obviously, don't rush him back.
00:19:10
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um Tino in for trips. I don't know if I would stop Miley, you know.
00:19:17
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Sorry, guys, that's an unpopular opinion, isn't it?
00:19:18
Jo
really no it's alright it's just an opinion it's cool
00:19:20
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:19:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, I just think it... We've not got Joe Linton. So there's one of the midfielders who's got to come in. Willock was brilliant against Birmingham. He was a top man and therefore he got the place. And he's a left footer as well.
00:19:33
Nicola Pringle-Adams
yeah
00:19:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
So he came in. But, wrong day for him. if we're If we're playing a defensive game, Willock is a transition player, isn't he? Whereas Miley is far more understudy for Tonali.
00:19:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he he put his foot in.
00:19:47
Jo
yeah
00:19:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
He made some great challenges. He had somebody... carried off, did he not? Leaving his foot in on one of the trackers.
00:19:54
Nicola Pringle-Adams
yeah
00:19:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know that was an accident, but I mean, he's obviously go the strong in the challenge. um
00:20:03
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I did say to Joe yesterday about um Miley, I said he was the only player that really showed, other than Dan Burnt, that did show any sort of oomph about him.
00:20:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
What about up front?
00:20:13
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um
00:20:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:20:14
Jo
yeah
00:20:14
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I'm just not sure I can see Eddie starting him. um Honestly, guys, I'm actually not sure. I'm a little bit stumped because like we've, like we've, um said before and it was on a pod that me and you you were on Ian is we just haven't got like enough squad rotation you know when you're thinking oh um
00:20:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
i I agree. Maybe we could, because Barnes is fit again now. He was on the bench, wasn't he? So maybe, and Barnes keeps scoring against Nottingham Forest, who we've beaten twice away from home this season, either way.
00:20:48
Nicola Pringle-Adams
yeah
00:20:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we shouldn't fear them at all. But maybe, maybe we can have, and what about Callum Wilson centre-forward, Isaac on the left, Gordon down the right, to start with.
00:21:03
Jo
I like that.
00:21:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
and then you can shuffle some things around and maybe have Murphy, maybe have Barnes, maybe have Azula stepping in just to keep things...
00:21:10
Jo
Blade 5, Blade 3 at the back. Murphy, I'd bring Kraft in. So Kraft, Cher, because I don't think Botman's fit, that's all. Kraft, Cher and Byrne at the back. Murphy is wingback, Hall is a wingback.
00:21:22
Jo
Tenali and Bruno in the middle. Gordon on the right, Isaac on the left, Wilson up front. Theirs were starting 11.
00:21:29
Nicola Pringle-Adams
but do you think you'll have Isak and Wilson at the same time that's what you want I want to see it so do 84 years
00:21:32
Jo
No, I'm just saying that's what i want.
00:21:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
that It did.
00:21:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
When they were fit at the same time, which was, wasn't was it last season?
00:21:35
Jo
That would be my starting eleven.
00:21:37
Jo
That's my starting eleven right there. but
00:21:44
Jo
They can play well together.
00:21:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Was it the end of last season?
00:21:46
Nicola Pringle-Adams
eighty four years ago
00:21:46
Jo
I like them together.
00:21:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
wasn't the It wasn't the end of last season. It was the season before last.
00:21:49
Jo
just
00:21:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
He picked them to start together quite a few times. um they And they both scored all of the time. Maybe Wilson sits on the bench and comes on for Isaac so Isaac can play an hour every game.
00:22:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it's so predictable, isn't it, if we're predicting that?
00:22:05
Jo
Yeah.
00:22:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just think it needs a shake-up. I think yeah Nuno Espirito Santo is a good manager and we'll be expecting that. So let's do something unexpected.
00:22:13
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Very we good.
00:22:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to do something unexpected now by asking both of you. No, I don't want a reprise of the Christmas special.
00:22:23
Jo
No, I'll do alone.
00:22:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to ask Joanne to do the Zencastr adverts.
00:22:28
Jo
i'll ah I'll do it alone. It's fine.
00:22:30
Nicola Pringle-Adams
OK.
00:22:32
Jo
okay well it's either me or you girl it's all right it's nothing personal we just can't do it together that's all um oh go on then
00:22:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fire her away.
00:22:33
Nicola Pringle-Adams
OK. I haven't got it up, Hugo. I've got my notes up that Ian doesn't think I make.
00:22:41
Jo

00:23:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very good, very good, Joanne.
00:23:06
Jo
Thanks. Thanks.
00:23:07
Nicola Pringle-Adams
andja
00:23:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so...
00:23:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
we've got this Forest game that we're going to win.
00:23:15
Jo
Yeah. are
00:23:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then immediately, immediately we've got Liverpool on the Wednesday, haven't we? Away from home.
00:23:21
Jo
Yeah.
00:23:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are there changes that you would make to the starting line-up against Tottenham Forest, knowing that we've got a really tough game away at Liverpool?
00:23:32
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I think you've got
00:23:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a different way of whether we've done that.
00:23:32
Jo
Yeah, I've already said my start in 11.
00:23:33
Jo
Yeah.
00:23:36
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I think you've got
00:23:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, OK, well,
00:23:36
Jo
yeah
00:23:38
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um am i being Am I being like just really not, what's the word, got my football sensible head on? I think they're just two games that you both you have to start your strongest side. No questions asked.
00:23:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I agree. But
00:23:53
Jo
What's our strongest 11 right now is a real problem.
00:23:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
that that is difficult after the weekend, isn't it?
00:23:58
Jo
That's the problem.
00:23:58
Nicola Pringle-Adams
It is, yeah.
00:23:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who's in our strongest 11?

Lineup and Attacking Options

00:24:00
Jo
Yeah, that's why I've said what I've said.
00:24:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is Callum Wilson in our strongest 11?
00:24:03
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Callum Wilson's not even in our strongest 20.
00:24:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, i pick i I picked...
00:24:06
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I'm joking. I'm obviously joking.
00:24:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I picked... I picked Isaac, Wilson and and Gordon...
00:24:09
Jo
Weedabix is in our top ten.
00:24:11
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I do love him.
00:24:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I picked Isaac, Wilson and Gordon to start down as the three attackers because I thought that's the strongest three attackers that we have.
00:24:12
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I need to disclaim.
00:24:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
But they've never started together like that.
00:24:20
Jo
Yeah.
00:24:20
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, I agree.
00:24:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, you know, maybe it would be Murphy.
00:24:24
Jo
But like you said, mix it up
00:24:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe it would be Murphy that starts with Gordon down the right and Isaac up front. And then we've got Barnes and...
00:24:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe Barnes and Wilkinson come on at half-time if we've managed to get ahead to protect the guys that would start against Liverpool. Or maybe, because they've only played one game that they did no running in since the bloody Arsenal game a fortnight ago, all of these first-choice players should be able to put a shift in and play two games if they need to.
00:24:44
Jo
You can do that.
00:24:45
Nicola Pringle-Adams
You guys might be right though.
00:24:56
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:24:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're professional footballers, aren't they?
00:24:58
Nicola Pringle-Adams
You guys.
00:24:58
Jo
Yeah.
00:24:59
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah. I just need to make a disclaimer. Obviously, guys, I do actually love Callum Wilson. I just take the mick out of how injured he's all the time.
00:25:05
Jo
Yeah.
00:25:05
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um
00:25:05
Jo
But he is.
00:25:06
Nicola Pringle-Adams
That's not nice. So I need to just apologise for that. Like he's listening. um
00:25:10
Jo
i was going to say, he's going to sue you.
00:25:11
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Doesn't listen. um Yeah. um But yeah to be fair, Nottingham Forest might be a game. i mean, i don't think it will be because obviously, like we've said, Nottingham Forest are having a hell of a season on them.
00:25:22
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um Nottingham Forest might be a game where he starts Wilson instead of Isak just to change it up, just to change up.
00:25:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Could be. Could be.
00:25:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's what I was meaning.
00:25:29
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I don't think he will.
00:25:30
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I don't think he will because I think this game screams for Isak, to be honest. But and it they could he might be looking at and think, let's change it up. People are expecting Isak to be on the pitch. So they're like, you know, monitoring what you're doing and all these players are like sort of, you know,
00:25:44
Nicola Pringle-Adams
doing their homework, if you like. um but It might be a game where Wilson starts for the first half. Who knows?
00:25:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
three After the Liverpool game, we would play away at West Ham. And that is a team that Callum Wilson loves playing against. So that might be the game where Callum Wilson starts and Isaac starts on the bench.
00:26:01
Jo
yeah
00:26:02
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:26:03
Jo
He needs to start out. Yeah.
00:26:05
Nicola Pringle-Adams
yes
00:26:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
and so The point is that we've got a small squad, but we don't just have a squad of 11 players.
00:26:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
and when you keep going back to the well so many times, the same starting line-up, and the odd person slots it because somebody's injured, I think we end up really predictable. And I think that's what generates the sort of lame, half-hearted performance that we saw against Manchester City.
00:26:15
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:26:33
Jo
mm hmm yep. yeah.
00:26:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, psychologically, a lot of the players in that team have already been to the Etihad five and six and seven times and got a good training every time they've gone. So I'm not sure that was considered.
00:26:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Some of them would just be like Pavlov's dog will turn up at the Etihad. and have been conditioned in not doing anything because they've never done anything before.
00:27:03
Jo
yeah
00:27:03
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:27:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I don't know. But anyway, that was a game that we never played. It never happened. And we're not talking about it on this podcast.
00:27:10
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I don't remember it, but I don't remember because it was self-inflicted.
00:27:14
Jo
She literally doesn't remember it.
00:27:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's true.
00:27:15
Nicola Pringle-Adams
literally don't remember Saturday at all.
00:27:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
That is true.
00:27:17
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So,
00:27:18
Jo
We're just jealous. We do.
00:27:20
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I know.
00:27:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Have we got to be worried yet? about our prospects in the Carabao final, because that's what I see on YouTube and on some of the podcasts, people thinking that it's a warning sign for us turning up at Wembley and not performing, a little bit like we did against Manchester United last year or two years ago.
00:27:32
Nicola Pringle-Adams
e
00:27:44
Jo
I don't think they'll do that. Not this time.
00:27:46
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Not this time.
00:27:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't see it.
00:27:48
Jo
I can't believe that. i just can't.

Future Outlook and Tactics

00:27:50
Jo
And if they do, then they deserve every bit of hammering they'll get, is all I'm going to say.
00:27:54
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, I completely agree.
00:27:55
Jo
They've got to turn up. I believe they will turn up, so I'm not going to at all have anything against them. But all I'm saying is if they don't, then they know what's going to happen next and they'll deserve exactly what they get, is all I'll say.
00:28:06
Jo
But they're going turn up, so it's fine. This is a moot point. Moot point.
00:28:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
The moot point, it's moot.
00:28:11
Jo
moot point
00:28:14
Jo
Or a moo pointed to the young friends.
00:28:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Moot.
00:28:18
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Just think, this time next month, we'll either be sat here celebrating or we'll be sat here crying.
00:28:18
Jo
Sorry, I've lost the plot now.
00:28:23
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Literally this time next month.
00:28:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I cried all my tears.
00:28:25
Jo
What date we on? Oh, girl, we'll not be we'll not be sitting here because we'll still be partying, hopefully.
00:28:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
cried all my tears
00:28:35
Jo
We won't have been to bed.
00:28:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
on saturday night i' afraid So I won't be crying.
00:28:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've let me down so much.
00:28:41
Jo
ah you dried out?
00:28:43
Jo
Cool.
00:28:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've got no tears.
00:28:45
Jo
That's good.
00:28:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
However, I will be able to get a muster a few if we don't take three points off Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
00:28:46
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Let's.
00:28:51
Jo
Yeah.
00:28:51
Nicola Pringle-Adams
We will. Positivity, guys.
00:28:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:28:54
Nicola Pringle-Adams
All the positivity. They need it.
00:28:56
Jo
It is, yeah. It'll be fine, man.
00:28:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we're just going to be front foot 4-3-3 flat out because we've effectively got
00:29:04
Jo
Probably.
00:29:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Two fullbacks who were fast enough to mark the two wingers who killed us last Boxing Day. um And then better players everywhere else around the pitch. For tactics for weekend, can yes?
00:29:19
Jo
Mm-hmm.
00:29:20
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah. Not much to say on that, is there really?
00:29:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:29:22
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Hard.
00:29:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, that's what we're going to do. We won't do but any score predictions yet. I think we need to know where the bottom fits for a start as to whether we're going to concede or not.
00:29:30
Jo
yeah
00:29:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
and So we'll leave that for later in the week. But thank you very much indeed, ladies. for joining me tonight to discuss about Tactics Tuesday.
00:29:38
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Thanks, Ian.
00:29:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you very much for not mentioning that game that didn't happen on the weekend much, which we didn't. We have looked a little bit at Tactics. I think we've fulfilled our remit.
00:29:55
Jo
We have. We
00:29:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
We will be back with a wild card Wednesday tomorrow.
00:29:58
Jo
well
00:30:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
you soon.
