81 Plays1 year ago

In our very first episode of Oops!! We’re Talking Again..., meet your hosts—Oscar in Minneapolis and Jason in Seattle—as we kick things off by reintroducing ourselves, our friendship, and the long-distance chaos that inspired this podcast.

We dive into Week 1 of Coachella, with our thoughts on Lady Gaga's incredible performance to Zendaya’s surprise performance that had us screaming (respectfully). We touch on the upcoming Barbie sequel, spill our hopes and hunches for Ru Paul's Drag Race, and wrap things up by bonding over our shared love of the Real Housewives, food, and travel.

So grab your coffee or cocktail, and get into it—because oops... we’re talking again.

Introduction of Hosts & Podcast Theme

00:00:04
Speaker
Hey, it's Oscar from Minneapolis where the winters are cold. And I'm Jason in Seattle where the coffee is bold. We've been besties forever since way back when.
00:00:15
Speaker
We even have the same birthday. Fate had a plan back then. Now miles apart, but the gossip's still hot. Pop culture, hot takes. Best believe we got a lot.
00:00:26
Speaker
So get comfy, grab a drink, and turn up the sound. Oops, we're talking again. So it's time to stick around.

Podcast Creation and Purpose

00:00:38
Speaker
Well, hi, Bestie. Hi, Bestie. How's it going? It is going. We've been through it. We have been through it for for a couple of reasons, but I think the most recent one is the fact that we have decided to start our very own podcast and we just got done recording our intro. Yeah.
00:01:03
Speaker
Yeah. it was It was a little bit of a process, but it was easier than I think we thought it would be. Yeah, we're a pretty good team. yeah I didn't realize I like you that much until now.
00:01:17
Speaker
Cut that out. That was not funny. either We can't be 52 seconds in on our podcast and already be cutting stuff. so So this is the Oops We're Talking Again podcast.
00:01:29
Speaker
And i'm Oscar. I'm Jason. I'm Jason. And if you couldn't guess from that intro, we literally are best friends and have been for a very long time.
00:01:42
Speaker
But we no longer live in the same city, so we thought that this podcast would be a great idea not just to have fun and create content, but also just to stay in touch with each other.
00:01:56
Speaker
i think that's something that... has been important for us for a long time because maintaining a long distance best friendship at some times can be tricky, but in all the good ways because we love and support each other, but we also want to have some fun. And I think that this is going to be a good outlet for that.
00:02:17
Speaker
Yeah. And this is cheaper than therapy for me and way messier. So I think this is going to be my last line of defense, you know, from going insane in this world.

Jason's Background and Creative Journey

00:02:30
Speaker
And you're my best friend for how long now? 15 years? my gosh. It's like been so long. Let's get into it on who we are, where we come from, and kind of how we got to meet.
00:02:42
Speaker
I'll give you the floor first and you can let everybody know your story. So my name is Jason Nguyen. I am a 25... Lies. 36 years old.
00:02:59
Speaker
I am from Seattle, Washington, and i am originally from Vietnam. I... I lived in Minneapolis for about 15 years.
00:03:10
Speaker
And most of that time was when Oscar and I were best friends. And i am just a very creative person. I work in design. I work for a really big company in Seattle.
00:03:25
Speaker
So a little bit about me. i was born in Vietnam during monsoon season. So probably why i am so messy already i I moved to Minnesota after college and i started a career there and i lived there for about 15 years.

Oscar's Midwest Roots and Friendship Dynamics

00:03:46
Speaker
And most of those years, um Oscar and I were best friends. Growing up in Vietnam, I was always the artsy, sensitive kid. who liked to draw more than I did math and survived by Ariana Grande and iced coffee and Tumblr.
00:04:04
Speaker
Tumblr. Wow. That's really bringing us all back. Absolutely. Well, it also got me into design because um i love telling people what's ugly and it's a gift and also a career for me.
00:04:18
Speaker
So that's why I became a UX designer. i make complex things, make more sense and look cute. And because of that, i moved to Seattle to chase my dreams and better Asian food.
00:04:33
Speaker
now that I don't have Oscar because he's in Minnesota. So I'm still figuring it out, but i hope to share more of my opinions of the world with you guys. Yeah, I love that. And it's it's just so fascinating because down to our birth date, because I will share my age as well. I'm...
00:04:55
Speaker
32. So I'm a little bit younger than you. chi But in all honesty, we really do like we're so so similar, which in our the length of our friendship has definitely caused ups and downs, which of course, we'll get into over the course of this podcast. And I'm excited about getting into some of that. But but in the meantime, Virgos for sure to Virgos being best friends, I think is a very rare occurrence.
00:05:22
Speaker
I ah completely understand and identify with being creative as a kid. And i hated math. I was always way more of a creative person.
00:05:36
Speaker
So I live in Minneapolis, but I grew up in Wisconsin. and but I'm actually adopted from South America. so all And that was at a very young age. So all that I know really was the Midwest as ah child and growing up.
00:05:49
Speaker
And i always say, i don't even know if I've ever said this to you, Jason, but what I always say is I kind of escaped to the nearest biggest city because I came from like such a small town in Wisconsin. So I ah moved to Minneapolis after college and that's obviously where we met and became super close.
00:06:10
Speaker
And I'm just fortunate enough now that I do get to do quite a bit of travel, which is how we always end up finding each other because you I'm either coming out to Seattle to visit you, you'll come back to the Midwest ah to visit me, or we'll meet up wherever. I think our most recent travel to see each other was in Arizona of all places. So I think we met up in Phoenix and that was pretty fun.
00:06:34
Speaker
yeah So that is kind of almost the the positive side of having a best friend live literally across the country from you is that you guys can plan vacations together to other places. So I think that's been kind of fun too.
00:06:48
Speaker
Yeah. And you are the only person I trust to pick a travel destination, land the trip, and also critique the food and the interior design of the hotel.
00:07:04
Speaker
I think i think we we have similar minds, though. like We both love good food. We both love to travel pretty well. like I think we're we're good at that together. But I do you feel like I have a passion as if maybe like back in the day, like in the 80s when people needed like actual travel agents, that probably would have been my calling.
00:07:27
Speaker
But of course, I wasn't born until the ninety s So I think that that is something that I would be very good at. i love finding the best hotels, the best restaurants, making the reservations.
00:07:40
Speaker
Because if not only does that bring me joy and happiness to make sure that we're going to places that are fun and and exciting or maybe different and interesting.
00:07:54
Speaker
But if I want that experience, I definitely want to have that experience with my best friends and i want to bring them along for those rides too. So I think that's why you and i definitely get along when it comes to travel.

Podcast's Unique Style and Content

00:08:10
Speaker
And I mean, it's the same to this podcast. The whole point of this is for us to share our friendship to the world, right? Because we have so much good time together on our trip.
00:08:21
Speaker
I mean, we should share that to the world. And also, we have a lot to say. We are very opinionated. You know, you guys have to understand, Oscar is from Wisconsin, which means he's nice until he's not.
00:08:36
Speaker
yeah So if you have something to say, you better listen. And I think the other thing to reiterate to anybody that's listening, which I hope would be a reason to hit that subscribe button on our podcast, is that this is ah fun podcast, but it's also unfiltered.
00:08:55
Speaker
We're literally two best friends that are constantly going to be catching up on pop culture, current events, anything that's going on in our personal lives, things that we want to talk about.
00:09:06
Speaker
not just to each other, but they're things that like our friendship has no no bounds. Like we are, even though we're apart from each other, like our friendship, we we know no distance. So that's what we've always known. And I think that that's what we're really, really excited to share.
00:09:26
Speaker
Yeah. One more thing I want to bring up is the way we connect to each other through music that you were talking about earlier. We get to know each other really well, and our listeners should know this, on the first concert tour of Ariana Grande, where a mutual friend added us to his tickets and invited both of us, and we had no idea how fun it would be.
00:09:56
Speaker
it turned into a core memory. Yeah. And once again, these... These memories have happened so long ago, right?
00:10:07
Speaker
So these aren't things that are, it's like, oh, Ariana Grande came to our city at like, like i don't know, a year or two ago. This is over a decade ago. So they're formative memories of a person that you've only known for a short amount of time that grows into your something so special and something so meaningful.
00:10:26
Speaker
And they're things that we don't forget. Like we'll never ever forget the first concert we went together, which was Ariana Grande, who we still both love today. and we'll get into some other artists today too that we love.
00:10:39
Speaker
it's just It's just interesting how how formative those memories can be because I was actually reading a statistic in preparation for this first episode.
00:10:50
Speaker
how uncommon it is to truly have a connection with a friend after 10 years.
00:11:01
Speaker
And we're well beyond that. And we're not we're not like in our 50s or 60s. Like we're in our 30s. Like we're in our early 30s. So things it speak about yourself. I'm in my late You're in like your mid 30s. I'd say you're mid
00:11:20
Speaker
That's okay to say. Mid-30s, early thirty s same thing. but My skincare is really good. Yeah, I will say Jason's like bringing it. And if we want to talk about fashion, someone came on on here before we started recording, looking all cute and making fun of my sweatshirt. And I was like, oh, maybe I should have dressed up for our very first episode.
00:11:41
Speaker
This is a podcast. People are not seeing us. It's fine. Well, if you're on YouTube, you are. but if But no, I think most people are not going to be... and seeing but
00:11:53
Speaker
But no, I thought that was kind of funny. Like you came prepared and ready to show up for today, which I appreciate. Yeah. And also for people um to know this podcast has been in the works for a long time.
00:12:05
Speaker
It's, it's interesting how you have a concept and then you want to think about it and figure out, you know, the format and all of that, which we are not guaranteeing any type of format. You're going to get what you get.
00:12:18
Speaker
It's like, wow. Like once you start getting into it, it's like, okay, yeah, this is kind of like a job. And listened to enough podcasts where it's like, I could do that.
00:12:31
Speaker
And then when you actually start doing it, it's like, okay, well, we're going to make it work. And then we're where that's what we're doing. Yeah. Yeah. Well, so now you know us, two opinionated, overly caffeinated creatives with microphones in a shared Google folder.
00:12:49
Speaker
If there's any one takeaway from this, it's that we're just two crazy Virgos. That's all you really need to know. So what are you drinking today, Jason? Well, other people make fun of us a lot for doing this, but our drink of choice when we talk to each other on FaceTime is white wine and two ice cubes.
00:13:08
Speaker
So I'm enjoying one right now. i was about to say, like I love a cold, cold glass of white wine. i don't drink I know you and your partner love to drink red wine. i think you and your partner love all wine. but with Wine enthusiasts.
00:13:26
Speaker
If that's what you want to call it. I am definitely a fan of putting ice cubes into white wine. I don't care how expensive the bottle is. I personally am a fan of Pinot Grigio or like a Sauvignon Blanc.
00:13:40
Speaker
What wine and are you drinking today? I am drinking a Washington white wine from Chateau Saint-Michel, which we have subscription to, but I have no idea what that is. but if you don't You're not exactly sure. Yes.
00:13:54
Speaker
For context listeners, my boyfriend is currently watching The Masters. We're like the straightest couple ever. And he pour a glass of white wine for me.
00:14:05
Speaker
While he's drinking red wine and watching golf. he He likes his sports. I think he thinks that he is the man, but I am actually the man.
00:14:18
Speaker
Okay, Taylor's man.
00:14:22
Speaker
Well, he he could be my Tom Hiddleston with like, i love TS t-shirt. There you go. But no, before recording, I did see him come pour you through your glass of wine, and neither of us saw the label. So we do not know what you're exactly you're drinking.
00:14:38
Speaker
I do appreciate that vineyard. And you you guys have taken me there a couple times, and I've always had so much fun. and Yeah, and they have a summer concert series that feature Tate McRae, our iconic new pop stars.
00:14:52
Speaker
We love Tate McRae. What are you drinking, Oscar? haven't had a drink in a couple days which might be shocking to some of our friends but but i'm doing a kettle one with some lemonade kind of basic three lemons in squeezing really good carcass out carcass out beverage or vodka i

Pop Culture and Personal Interests

00:15:12
Speaker
will have to get into maybe beverly ah beverly hills house of some of these episodes she's definitely more of a vodka soda girly and i just can't always do the carbonation so i go i go know it's more sugar and carbs but
00:15:25
Speaker
I like a more heavy vodka ratio to lemonade. So it's not super sweet, but then you can kind of just sip it, especially now that we're getting into spring here in the Midwest, we're getting warmer. Today's gorgeous out. I'm literally looking out out my window and looking down on people playing pickleball, which is so fun, which is, I know people say is like an old person sport, but I think it's incredible. yeah,
00:15:50
Speaker
I also grew up playing tennis, so maybe that's why I like pickleball. It's easier. but ah But no, we have great weather here, and i just thought it was a good time to kind of pour a summery cocktail.
00:16:02
Speaker
It's also something that your boyfriend and you have been getting together to do more lately, right? Yeah, well, last summer, late i was it late summer, is when we started actually playing.
00:16:14
Speaker
So yeah, my partner and I, we did play We bought all the things to do pickleball. Like we bought like the cute paddles and got the balls and a cute like carrying bag. And we kind of went all out on pickleball.
00:16:28
Speaker
But then like that shit sat in like the corner for weeks. so I was like, okay, we need to finally like play. Like, and I was Googling,
00:16:41
Speaker
I think we both were Googling how to play pickleball, but then we both had different rules. Like we both were looking up the same thing, but getting different. Like we didn't know what we were doing. So I think we finally settled on like, okay, this is how I think we should be playing.
00:16:56
Speaker
And we chose one of the hottest days of the summer to go out and play. And let me say, it got to us pretty quickly.
00:17:06
Speaker
It was a little bit too hot to be outside. and Despite still being in Minnesota, our summers can get hot. So that was a mistake. Was it the pickleball or was it the drinks?
00:17:24
Speaker
I think the closest thing to a twink that was around us was, no, I can't even i can't even compliment myself like that. But i know there weren't No, there weren't a lot of lookers that day Oscar and his boyfriend generally are couple goals. and um I really love your relationship because you guys laugh together a lot.
00:17:48
Speaker
Your humor is your glue. You can literally go to the a dive bar and have a great time. And I don't know how you do it, but five years down, you are still loving each other as if you were a teenage boy. So congratulations. Like I love you guys so much. And Maybe we can talk more about it in the future.
00:18:08
Speaker
if you stick around. Thanks for saying that. Cause I, can I think the same way about you and your partner, because you guys seem so just connect. You guys do so many fun things together.
00:18:20
Speaker
me and my partner, we're celebrating our anniversary coming up in about like a week and a half. And so I am really proud of us because we've been through a lot as any relationship does, but To have ah best friend weather the storm of a huge move across the country with you and your partner, I think is so special because you both are incredible human beings.
00:18:49
Speaker
You both have been not just an incredible friends to me and towards me, but also to my partner. And I know that that means the world to him as well. So not to get super sappy and not to make this podcast all about, you know, our men, but I think we both are so incredibly...
00:19:10
Speaker
grateful to have support and to to have that in our lives. And I think it's i think it's just important to mention. So if you haven't gathered that by now, like were you we both are, ah Jason and I are both in relationships with other men that are incredible humans. And i think they will be mentioned here and there throughout the podcast. and we'll just make that known.
00:19:39
Speaker
Yeah, and if you listen to this, um you would soon learn that we're the chaos and they are the calming force. and But together, we're all balanced. So just barely. That's very true. Just barely.
00:19:55
Speaker
Yeah. And yeah for some reason, we which will also come up in this podcast, I don't know why, when this started, but you know I think chaos is one of our favorite words, but we always say it chaus. Chaus.
00:20:06
Speaker
You just say how it sounds. so It might be the name of the podcast someday, but... This podcast is definitely Chaus. so And that is probably going to be the name of this first episode because there's a lot going on.
00:20:19
Speaker
Yeah. So, Oscar, I've been dying to talk to you about Coachella for a while. And I've been waiting for this podcast because Mother performed, Mother came,
00:20:34
Speaker
She turned 18 Poland and she had to serve. So she had no choice. She delivered ah performance of her life and I'm gagging, I'm gooping.
00:20:45
Speaker
And please tell me, if you were there, would you deal with a porta potty in order to go see her? As big of a Gaga fan as I am, i actually don't think I could survive Coachella.
00:21:01
Speaker
I don't know. Here's the thing. Coachella has been going on for a really long time. And as someone who has literally done like other things, even with you, like we've gone to like EDC and other music festivals.
00:21:13
Speaker
I don't think I could do Coachella. I don't think I could do Burning Man. But I will say this. As big of a Gaga fan as I am, i actually didn't see that many clips of her performance. I didn't watch it because I know they streamed it, right?
00:21:27
Speaker
Yeah, and I'm very surprised that you have never seen the whole set because I thought you would be jumping. i know, and that's literally my fault. i i was traveling and busy, and I did see some clips, which looked incredible, because i think we're both huge fans of her new record, Mayhem.
00:21:48
Speaker
But i did see I did see some clips, and I saw ah some of her costumes that I heard took off. days to make. about there's There was this one I remember that said it took X amount of fire-resistant material to make because of all the pyrotechnics on stage.
00:22:08
Speaker
And so I was happy with what I saw. i just need to go back and actually like take the time to watch because she is so creative. Yeah, this is not a spoiler for us because all of this is public information. But what I heard is she did five acts with totally different themes.
00:22:25
Speaker
And I've seen some clips ah where each of the acts has a different narrative. And there was one that she was coming out of a sandbox. Her and her dancer crawl out of the grave to disease.
00:22:40
Speaker
So I cannot wait for us to see this and have a different take because you tell them, Oscar. Oh my gosh. We somehow, by the magic of Ticketmaster, were able to get tickets for Mayhem Tour.
00:22:55
Speaker
so ah So my partner and I tried very, very hard. We got stuck in the queues. It was like Taylor Swift Airs Tour all over again. but we were able to secure tickets. Unfortunately, he was in Mexico trying to get tickets. And so they thought he was a bot. So it was up to me to secure the bag And then you guys, I think you guys were traveling too, right? Over the dates of ah the presale. But then you ended up, your friends ended up getting tickets, right?
00:23:26
Speaker
Yeah, we were in Cabo, but our friends got us two tickets to watch it with them. So we're we're going to be in Seattle. Yeah, so so we all get to see the tour.
00:23:39
Speaker
And so I think that is just very, very exciting, knowing just how hard those tickets were. I think, Jason, I forgot if I was talking to you or somebody else, but before she announced the Mayhem tour, Gaga had announced her ah shows in Singapore.
00:23:56
Speaker
And I think it was four dates. And she had over three and a half million people pre-register for tickets for just four dates. So I knew it was going to be hard to get tickets for the U.S. tour.
00:24:12
Speaker
And thankfully, we were ah lucky ones. stuff Yeah. One of the things I'm most looking forward to is the focus of linking back to her debut because Mayhem, as I told you earlier, was um the Fame Monster Part 2. And...
00:24:33
Speaker
and You know, a lot of like abracadabra is very similar to bad romance and um disease is similar to Judas. And she is creating a balance of new and old.
00:24:46
Speaker
And I cannot wait to feel young again because those were the days where we were dumb twings, getting into bars, getting drinks for one. oh my gosh. Dance our ass off.
00:24:57
Speaker
Like literally living the same like teenage years is insane. i attribute Gaga to not just being incredibly talented singer and musician and dancer and actress, but back in her younger years, she really was a force to be reckoned with. And I'm so happy that she gets, is getting, finally getting the recognition that she deserves in the last few years, not just from the people that have always supported her, but these other generations that are realizing ah how much she has contributed to pop culture. So I think that's special.
00:25:31
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. i think there was a time right after Chromatica. Well, let's just say that Chromatica got paused because of COVID. COVID, yeah. There was a time that um we did not hear much from Gaga.
00:25:47
Speaker
She got a lot of success elsewhere in movies, in doing a jazz album. And now she's back as a pop queen. And I cannot to wait to see this area.
00:26:00
Speaker
I think she's so excited for it too. And I'm just proud of her too because she, you know, being in her, she's in her, she just had her birthday.
00:26:12
Speaker
um So she's late thirties and she's had hip problems and fibromyalgia and all of these things that I'm starting to feel my age. And it's like, I can't believe that she's still out there. killing it on stage and she deserves all the success in the world. So that's how I feel.
00:26:28
Speaker
Are you, are you saying you're feeling old? Yes, I am. i don't want to admit that to you, but I do. I do some days. Yeah. So one more thing, one big takeaway from this episode. You guys remember when Oscar said it we share the same birthday.
00:26:45
Speaker
Date. Date. But three years apart. And this bitch every year will remind me that I am three years older than she is.
00:26:56
Speaker
Well, it's true, girl.
00:26:59
Speaker
It's facts. Hashtag facts. You can't change it. You know what? My Korean skincare say differently, so... Well, my Botox definitely says it really.
00:27:19
Speaker
oh my god We need to come back from that. Okay. So speaking of Coachella, did you hear that Zendaya did like a surprise set at Coachella? Yeah. i heard about it for people who do not know about this.
00:27:34
Speaker
Me. I don't know much about it, but... Zendaya joined Labyrinth on Stage for surprise performance, and they worked together on Euphoria, which you know, both of you and I love.
00:27:47
Speaker
And um she sang on the show for a couple songs, so she sang them in Coachella. Wow. this is Yeah. it's far Because I only heard about it. I did not like read into it or see it or anything.
00:28:01
Speaker
Yeah. And it's her first live musical performance in years. Wow. I want to be her. I want to top Tom Holland too.
00:28:14
Speaker
bet you do.
00:28:17
Speaker
She's a top, right? Tom total bottom. Allegedly. Allegedly. Well, speaking of music, should we talk about how um s Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso turned one?
00:28:31
Speaker
Yes. She debuted Espresso on Coachella last year. little did she know that it became the thing it is today. The biggest song ever. And not to toot my own horn, but I was on Spotify's wrapped 0.005% listener of that song.
00:28:54
Speaker
So that was one of my favorite summer jams last year. You just spend too much time doing a world tour in your bedroom. and my bathroom, my shower. Yeah.
00:29:05
Speaker
Doing a whole concert. Oh, yeah. World tour, for sure. and You know what? My poor cat has to listen to me every day. Yes. Your cat, Leonard. Tuxedo cat.
00:29:17
Speaker
Like, Jason has the cutest cat. cutest cat and i'm not even a cat person you know that i'm not the biggest cat person but leonard the exception he put up with us i don't know how he does it yeah he's a he's a people cat i always call him a ah ah dog cat because he acts like a dog around people he actually kind of does if you can imagine that If you first meet him for the first time, he turn around, um put his little butt up, and asks you to pet him in the butt.
00:29:54
Speaker
Yeah, that sounds like Leonard to me. Yeah. I don't have any pets, but I would love a French bulldog. Absolutely. Like one of Gaga's. Oh my gosh, that's right. She has a couple. Yeah.
00:30:06
Speaker
Oh my gosh, remember when they got stolen? ah We can't talk about that. It's too dark. Way too dark. Maybe later in another episode. So let's talk about something lighter.
00:30:18
Speaker
um White Lotus. for For all the White Lotus fans out there. No spoilers, though. No spoiler. No, we're not going go there.
00:30:30
Speaker
Our girl Lisa was headlining... And um they call it on social media. Yes. For the first time ever because she always performed with Blackpink. So they call this Mookchella because her character from White Lotus is Mook.
00:30:49
Speaker
Yes. She's so cute. Can we just talk about that? She is the cutest thing ever. She's so gorgeous. Just stunning. Like stage presence, like everything on point.
00:31:00
Speaker
She just has something about her that I just am obsessed with. She's a superstar. Absolutely. And she's dating a billionaire. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah. So you have all the tea.
00:31:12
Speaker
I don't have. house Yours is piping hot. And I'm just, I'm just along for the ride. So, um you know, the show Emily in Paris. Oh, I didn't watch the latest season of that show.
00:31:24
Speaker
Well, Lisa is doing the same thing. She's dating the son and heir of the guy that own lvmh So she's dating a billionaire?
00:31:36
Speaker
She's dating a billionaire's son. Oh, billionaires. Well, same difference, right, at that point. Yeah. So this girl has everything. However, I did saw something online that, you know, like people brought up a few clips of her singing and say that she didn't have the best voice.
00:31:55
Speaker
What do you think about that? Well, I only saw a couple of clips from her performance. Once again, I'm a little bit behind. From what I heard, I thought she sounded... i mean, i doesn't i think she's talented, right?
00:32:09
Speaker
Yeah, like she she trained a lot. I would say she wasn't the best singer from Blackpink. because she was a rapper, but she has improved a lot over the years.
00:32:22
Speaker
And I thought, you know, the few clips they put was, you know, you're in a life set, some songs you might not sing as well as the other. But she did well, and I'm proud of her. Yeah.
00:32:33
Speaker
No, I think that's wonderful. Because how old is she? um my gosh. She's 22. Yeah, she's like a literal child. So we love to see that. We love to see somebody making, you know, making moves, making money moves for sure, and doing it all. So cheers to her.
00:32:51
Speaker
Yes. Love it. I also heard that I guess it's now confirmed that Greta has signed on to do ah Barbie 2. Oh my God. So we have another movie coming.
00:33:04
Speaker
Did you like the first one? I love the first one. i believe I saw it with you. No, I... You didn't see it.
00:33:17
Speaker
No, you didn't see it with me. No, we didn't see it with each other. Okay. You know what? Speaking of White Lotus, my brain is very jumbled from years of lorazepam that sometimes I don't remember if I see a movie with my best friend or not. And I definitely did not see Barbie 1 her. you did not.
00:33:40
Speaker
But now we I guess we have Barbie 2 to look forward to. i To be honest, I will say i don't necessarily, and you can disagree with me, i don't necessarily think that Barbie 1 was super memorable, although I do i did like it.
00:33:56
Speaker
i just knew after I saw it that there were was a lot of talk about and people had a lot of opinions about it.
00:34:06
Speaker
So I think it's interesting that now they're going to go and do this sequel and that there's rumors of Ryan Gosling as of if he has, um, his own single like vocal number in the movie.
00:34:22
Speaker
So that's something that Barbie fans have something to look forward to. If that is for sure, the truth in the case. So I did read, I did read that, that, um, movie is allegedly confirmed now.
00:34:35
Speaker
So I don't know when it's supposed to be released, but there's definitely a lot of Barbie fans out there. Yeah. Well, by all metrics, it was a successful movie. Of course it was. Yeah. And I enjoyed it. I just, for me, if I'm being completely honest, I don't know if it was, I never saw it again.
00:34:52
Speaker
like I did see, it I saw it one time and I do remember it, but it wasn't like wicked where I saw that. ah I mean, I saw that a couple times. yeah Barbie just wasn't one that I felt the need to like stream or go back to the theater for just in my personal opinion.
00:35:09
Speaker
You know why? It was a little bit too ham-fisted, to be honest with you. this is i loved it. I loved it in theater. and Really? like You used the word, yes the owl word? Yes. For a Barbie movie?
00:35:23
Speaker
I watched it in theater a few times. i think You went up more than once? Oh, wow. didn't know that. With different people. And then watched it by myself, and I turned it off right after the can-
00:35:37
Speaker
because i felt at that time, I already know how it ends. I had gone through that emotional journey. And I'm like, we get where we identify with our journey from start to finish. That is very true.
00:35:51
Speaker
Like after a while, like you just get the message. It's already ham fisted. So you don't have to experience it again. That's why it doesn't have the rewatch value. I get that. That makes a lot of sense.
00:36:03
Speaker
Yeah. But I would watch Barbie 2 for sure in theater. Oh, no, I'll watch it I'll watch anything once, but this definitely does not mean I'll watch it again. I'll try anything once.
00:36:15
Speaker
It doesn't mean I'm going to try it again. Jason, you'll do anything once, let's be honest. and
00:36:21
Speaker
Anyways, moving on. um This is something you might be excited about and that you can fill me in more on because it's something that ah I think I want to be a little bit more interested in as of current seasons and years.

Discussion on Drag Race and Reality TV

00:36:35
Speaker
But I guess um Drag Race All-Stars 10 premieres soon. And of all the friends that I have, you are and your partner are big Drag Race fans.
00:36:51
Speaker
Yes. Well, before that, we have to talk about the current season, which is the main season of RuPaul's Drag Race. And this season has been one of the top three seasons for me.
00:37:02
Speaker
They are currently going into the f finale. And this season serves drama, serves really young queens who are very talented, but just messy, but chows just like us, really, really funny. And they all have really good heart. And it's just something to escape.
00:37:24
Speaker
And I'm loving it so far. And I'm also looking forward to season 10. We don't know about the cast yet, but rumored that Bosco is coming back. You don't know anything about this, but Georgia's, which is like a tiny little queen that we love.
00:37:41
Speaker
But I'm looking forward to season 10. um We don't know yet about the cast. Because season 10 is all stars, though. It's all stars. Because what season are they in for the regular season? like what just Because that's what just wrapped, right?
00:37:55
Speaker
Right. um What's close to wrapped is season 17. 17. Okay. Wow. Yeah. seventeen okay wow yeah And just for just for clarification to anybody listening, I'm not a bad gay. i used to watch Drag Race all the time in the earlier seasons.
00:38:11
Speaker
I have been so out of touch in the last couple years and I just have been meaning to get back into it. And I love that you and your partner love to watch it. And I see clips here and there.
00:38:24
Speaker
and bad. I need to get back into it. I do love drag. You are just too old.
00:38:31
Speaker
What I love about Drag Race is that it transcends um and you there are people our age on the show now and queens who are coming back for season 10 would be the queens that we watch from the years earlier that we're familiar with.
00:38:47
Speaker
So ah queens like Aja or Bosco, and don't know if you know any about them, but Georgia's, which is another queens that we really love. And my boyfriend and I have this in-joke that every time we see something wonderful, beautiful, we will say Gorge W. Bush because that's the nickname that Georgia's got. love that.
00:39:09
Speaker
Yeah. So yeah, drag race is very important to us. Yeah, but that's great. I love that. and And that makes me hearing that and then seeing that in the news too this past week just makes me want to get back into like regular scheduled programming and and watching, getting back more into drag because You know me, I love to go to drag brunches and i have my favorite local drag queens that are here in Minneapolis.
00:39:33
Speaker
ah To watch back on on to RuPaul's Drag Race is definitely on ah my list of things to do. So Jason, I think it's fair to say that if we still have listeners left listening this far into our very first episode, that they might be invested in us and what we have to offer.
00:39:53
Speaker
What else do you think that they can expect from us? Just chows, the chows that ensued. But um we are also interested in and a lot of topics that you might be interested in. So Oscar, you want to tell them?
00:40:08
Speaker
Oh my gosh, there's so much. I mean, i think pop culture is very apparent for us. I think we both really love our guilty pleasures of the Real Housewives. And it's been really interesting because we've been watching the Beverly Hills reunion. I think they're on part two. So part three, I think, is airing the week that this episode comes out.
00:40:29
Speaker
Who is your favorite Beverly Hills housewife? You are going to laugh, but she's not a housewife. She's a friend of love. know who you're going to say. Jennifer.
00:40:40
Speaker
Jennifer Tilly. i love her. love her style. I love her jewelry. i love that she bring up a boat Louis Vuitton bag into an episode that cost $30,000. That was iconic.
00:40:54
Speaker
Yeah, I love that she married well. She married a random guy who made The Simpsons. And she keep on saying that she didn't know this. But when, you know, he left her with a piece of The Simpsons, she didn't know it was gonna go for 50 years.
00:41:10
Speaker
And here she is, you know, being iconic, making money through poker, and just being a comic relief and just a good friend. I think she's so genuine and she is so real, which is ironic that she's the friend of the real housewives when none of these other women are that real.
00:41:29
Speaker
And I find her so funny. I love her um comedic timing. i discovered Jennifer Tilly, like a lot of us gays did a very long time ago. But one of the really interesting things and that some some of the people in my life know about me is that I love...
00:41:46
Speaker
gambling I love blackjack, but I also love poker. So the fact that she's a professional poker player to me is so interesting. And I've actually watched her play in a couple tournaments.
00:41:58
Speaker
So she is by far one of my favorites this season. But if we're talking more long-term housewives, people are going to hate on this, but I think Dorit is beautiful. i think she brought it this season.
00:42:12
Speaker
And I also really do like Erika Jayne and I will get the most heat for that. But I think she is also an interesting individual. i think she also has comedic timing and ah she brings a drop. talented.
00:42:26
Speaker
Talented and brings a drama. And my partner and I actually did go see her in Vegas when she had her little residency down at Manly Bay. You and other 50 people. know. It was interesting.
00:42:38
Speaker
ah Jason, when you lived here in Minneapolis, she actually headlined Pride one year for us. And we have a gay bar here called The Saloon. And she did a headline years ago. And that was... She actually did put on quite an amazing show. and that But once again, this was...
00:42:53
Speaker
Gosh, this must have been five or six years ago. So Erica Jane has been ah ah around a long time. and And I think that some of us should give her a little bit more respect and and for just being in the game and and playing the game. And so I do like her a lot.
00:43:09
Speaker
Well, and we also watch a lot of good TV. And one of our favorites so far this season has been White Lotus, which is wrapped. yeah But we're looking forward to hacks Oh, my gosh. Hacks is so good. Because this is season four, right?
00:43:26
Speaker
Yeah. and ah you and your partner actually got me into hacks and I was late to the game and I binged watched that show for couple weeks and got all caught up.
00:43:39
Speaker
I'm so excited. i think it is incredible. It's, it's just something that I think is so well-written and performative and exciting. Also, i just had mentioned when we were talking about Jennifer Tilly about ah gambling So I love Vegas, as you know.
00:43:57
Speaker
So I think that's a big draw for me for that show. So I'm interested to see how that plays out. So the preiere season premiere did come out already. i have yet to watch it Sounds like you watched it. Yes, I did.
00:44:08
Speaker
ah You are going to find this so interesting because it's not a spoiler, but we already know that she's leaving Las Vegas this season. ah The main character, Deborah Vance, played by Gene Smart.
00:44:21
Speaker
And she is struggling a little bit because Vegas and Hollywood do not mix. So I cannot wait for you to watch these two episodes and we can recap next week. Oh, that's right. Cause they did say they were going to release the first two episodes, right? Yes.
00:44:34
Speaker
That's right. i forgot about that. Oh my gosh. oh I have some catching up to do on this, on this HBO stuff. So, ah so that is exciting. So I think it's fair to say that any listener to this podcast is going to get a mouthful of a lot of different topics from both of us.
00:44:51
Speaker
Yeah. And I think even like we mentioned at the top of the episode, we have so many different interests like travel. You just got back from Mexico. i was in Florida the other week and you know, one of my hotspots is Vegas.
00:45:06
Speaker
We love food. do you have like a favorite restaurant right now?

Food, Travel, and Closing Remarks

00:45:10
Speaker
Yes, living in Seattle, we have so many good places to go um There's a French restaurant very close to our apartment named The George that we went recently that I would love to take you. um I'm down.
00:45:26
Speaker
I really love seafood and they have really good linguine with clams. And my boyfriend got the steak. It was amazing. But we also have been exploring really just divey places. And we've been going to Seattle, West Seattle a lot. And our favorite place that we went recently was a small little burger joint called Coastline.
00:45:50
Speaker
That's just the best spot. And you can get like craft beer there. What about you? It's hard because I feel like living in the Midwest, there's a lot of restaurants that I'm just now used to going to.
00:46:04
Speaker
So I think I kind of more resort to like the kitchen, because kind of like you too, because you like to cook. Yeah, we both love to cook. Yeah, I feel like sometimes being in the kitchen is not always, but sometimes better than being in a restaurant.
00:46:17
Speaker
When it comes to restaurants, a good burger is always really, really nice. i keep things kind of simple now. I used to go out and do fancy things like oysters. And i still love seafood, but sometimes simpler is better.
00:46:33
Speaker
Yes, simpler is better, but you also have to treat yourself sometimes. And our other interest is traveling. um Oscar, as we said earlier, was very is is a very good travel partner and planner.
00:46:49
Speaker
i It's just something that I take passion in. And ah as someone who's been on a few trips, ah even already this year, it's something that I'll continue to do.
00:47:01
Speaker
ah were Where are you off to next? Yes. um My next destination is Paris. I'm planning a trip with my parents this summer. They're in Vietnam. So I'm excited to see them.
00:47:14
Speaker
That's really exciting. think that's great. Yeah. What about you, Oscar? Oscar? Gosh, I'm celebrating my anniversary with my partner. We're doing a really close trip.
00:47:25
Speaker
So we're going to be in Chicago in about a week and a half. So not too far. i think you know of all people that we don't typically stay that close to home. So it'll be a simple trip, but that's okay sometimes.
00:47:39
Speaker
Well, I think we both just want to thank everybody for listening today. If you made it this far, congratulations. You're now legally our best friend. i think that's definitely the truth. And we look forward to getting to know you guys just as much as you guys get to know us.
00:47:55
Speaker
