Ep. 5 - Straight People (Sometimes) Ruin Everything

S1 E5 · Oops!! We're Talking Again...
Avatar
50 Plays1 year ago

Jason is back from EDC with glitter in his carry-on, Oscar’s tending to his patio plants like a gay plant daddy, and somehow we still found time to talk about everything this week. We unpack the infiltration of straight people into queer spaces (why are they everywhere now?), HBO’s low-effort logo facelift, and the totally real, necessary changes in the Bravo-universe. We confess our Desperate Housewives era of gay awakenings, talk “Yellowface” lit, and discuss the months-long pauses between filming reality TV seasons (justice for back-to-back mess!).

And in a moment of gay justice, Lady Gaga’s Artpop is finally getting its overdue flowers. Also—Jason’s heading to World Pride DC next month… and yes, J.Lo is involved...

Friendship and Pop Culture Bond

Speaker
Hey, it's Oscar from Minneapolis where the winters are cold. And I'm Jason in Seattle where the coffee is bold. We've been besties forever since way back when.
00:00:15
Speaker
We even have the same birthday. Fate had a plan back then. Now miles apart, but the gossip's still hot. Pop culture, hot takes. Best believe we got a lot.
00:00:26
Speaker
So get comfy, grab a drink, and turn up the sound. Oops, we're talking again. So it's time to stick around.

Vegas Adventure and EDC Experience

00:00:36
Speaker
Hi, Bestie. Hello, Bestie. Actually, I should say hi Mr. Upgraded. it's last episode we talked about you never getting upgraded and finally you got upgraded your last flight that you just took.
00:00:55
Speaker
I don't know what what happened, but the the gods are ever in my favor. It's finally ever in my favor this time. I got upgraded on the flight to Vegas for EDC.
00:01:08
Speaker
Which was a last minute ah vacation that I didn't even know you were going on until the day before. Our friends got one extra ticket and they told me the night before that I would be having a free room if I would come.
00:01:23
Speaker
And I say, why not? And we have done EDC in the past before, but what Tell me everything. Like, how was it And i know some of the people that you were out there with, but like, I haven't heard much about the trip. So spill.
00:01:38
Speaker
EDC is amazing. i always had a good time. This time I actually focused a lot on the music and the production instead of actually trying to meet people or taking pictures.
00:01:53
Speaker
Yeah, well, in has my phone it helps when you're already with a really good group of people, right? And you can kind of live in the moment. And i know what some of that's like, because it's like, there's so much happening around you.
00:02:06
Speaker
But if you're preoccupied with the photos and the I call it like influencer behavior, then you're not really absorbing and like getting the full experience.
00:02:17
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. Well, it sounded like and looked like you had a wonderful time. And the photos that I saw that you posted all looked like you had so much fun. Yeah, I'm going again next year.
00:02:30
Speaker
so yeah, you got to convince me. Meet me in the electric sky. How long of a flight is that to Vegas from Seattle? Only three hours. Oh, so so that's it's about the same time from Minneapolis.
00:02:44
Speaker
On this flight, I booked comfort plus because I thought, you know, maybe I'll have a chance ah because there were a lot of open seats. of course there were like two seats left, which never happened to me ever.
00:02:58
Speaker
And then they offered right before I came and I i already came really late. They were like, Mr. Nguyen, Mr. Nguyen, come to the counter. And so so I came and they were like, would you like this seat?
00:03:10
Speaker
And was like, yes, of course. And i had to have a, I didn't know this, but you have to get a paper morning pass if you get upgraded, right? ah Yeah, I think at the counter they'll reprint you one because most of the time when you get upgraded, you'll get notified.
00:03:27
Speaker
i think it's three days in advance. Like if they know that they're going to upgrade you, I think with Delta, I think it's three days and it's automatic in the app, like you'll just get your new pass. But if they're going to upgrade you at the at the gate, then yeah, I think they reprint that pass for you.
00:03:43
Speaker
So what happened to me was that I took the paper pass and tossed it into my bag and I scanned the original tickets. Yeah. And they said, oh, you're not on the flight.
00:03:55
Speaker
andha Yeah. so stupid And then she was like, no, no, this is actually correct. So she yeah reprinted because I was in line trying to board. So the flight attendant reprinted from me. And so I get on the plane, but it was embarrassing.
00:04:13
Speaker
So of course, the day that I got upgraded, fucked it up. But then the flight got delayed by four hours. Oh, ah you didn't tell me this.
00:04:24
Speaker
Yeah, I was in the tarmac for almost four hours because of turbulent weather. No way. You were already on the plane, right? Yeah. we we so Usually it's like, okay, there's like, there's something they're checking with the plane or getting a new crew or something. And then it might take 20, 30, 40 minutes at max.
00:04:44
Speaker
I mean, last time I was delayed on a plane, it was like under an hour, but four hours is a long time. I know. How many champagne can I get? Hopefully they were serving you. They were, thankfully, because I was in first class. you were in ah You were in one seat too, which is my seat when I fly solo and my partner's seat when we fly together. Yeah.

Gardening Woes and Night Out Reflections

00:05:06
Speaker
Yeah. Well, we know what it feels like. Now now I finally know what expensive feel like. ah cherry Oh my gosh. There's so many, there's so many international airlines that have way better first class experiences than Delta.
00:05:23
Speaker
It's true. Enough about me. What did you do this week? Um, life has been kind of normal. I feel like I am trying to be a really good plant dad, plant daddy.
00:05:36
Speaker
I did my plants on my patio a couple weeks ago, but then this week has been really cold and rainy, like unusually. And um I planted a bunch of stuff, so like cilantro and tomatoes and like chives and green onions and a couple types of basil and flowers. And so just making sure that they're happy even in the cold weather.
00:06:00
Speaker
and then the thing I didn't realize is one of the nights got really chilly and my Thai basil plant died. I'm so sad. It was looking so healthy and doing so well. And the place I bought it from will actually replace the plant so I can go get a new one and hopefully they still have it. But I just, it was like rooting. It was like, I was rooting for you.
00:06:19
Speaker
was We're rooting for you. We're all rooting for you. But no, so my Thai basil plant's not looking too happy, but everything else is growing great despite the weather. So just trying to keep them watered and happy and healthy.
00:06:34
Speaker
i take pride in that, I guess. But then the other thing that I did this weekend was, but I didn't realize that I had not set foot into ah a really popular gay bar here in Minneapolis in half a year. It was last year that I went.
00:06:49
Speaker
and do you feel about it now i'm excited how did you feel about it now oh my gosh i have a lot of opinions and thoughts and i'm just gonna sound like an 80 year old man even though i'm 32 but it's full of gen z every time the dj would play an actual good banger or pop hit it would be like the dance floor would go silent because it's like they don't know this music and this is like iconic pop hits and I'm like how do you guys you guys are so young you don't even know these songs like what what exactly one of the songs they were playing oh god they were playing Kesha like her first record which was like all bops how could they it's like how do you not even like know people probably know like TikTok but like you're gonna play
00:07:39
Speaker
literally any other song from that record and it's just like robots like they don't know what to do it's very strange well to be fair when that song was out they were literally like in their crib yeah so okay yeah yeah i i just kind of feel like when you have like a gay safe space that sometimes they slowly turn into like straight hot spots i have a theory on this So a gay bar would be very open to a gay boy bringing his straight friends, right? And then the straight girlfriend had a great time the first time she came over and the second time.
00:08:20
Speaker
And then the next time she's like, oh, it's the weekend and I want to go dance around really hot men. and i don't want to be bothered by straight men. So let let me go to this place.
00:08:32
Speaker
But then eventually she goes to the place with her straight friends because the gay boys don't want to go with her anymore. And now it's just a group of girls crashing on gay bars. And then they decided to throw their bridesmaids party there too.
00:08:45
Speaker
Next thing you know, DJ is playing Mr. Brideside, whatever, you know, straight music and nobody's dancing to Kesha. Well, and also I think when you get a bunch of straight girls starting to hang out at the gay bars, it attracts the straight men because they know where to find the straight girls at.
00:09:01
Speaker
And then i call this heterogravity. Okay, I've never heard that before. So that's when two straight people grinding in a queer space, it creates a black hole of energy and puts all the attention. Did you say them grinding when you seem like a straight?
00:09:23
Speaker
It's a space-time boozy. oh my gosh. I still had a really good time. um But what I will say, though, is I like a stiff cocktail. Like, I like a strong drink.
00:09:34
Speaker
You like a stiff what? Well, you know that's a different conversation that we can definitely talk about if you'd like. but But no, I do. I like a stiff cocktail. And... Holy shit. After not being in that bar for so long, I was a wasted when we left.
00:09:50
Speaker
I was so drunk. I barely remember the Uber home. i still feel like I'm recovering from that was Friday night. Sunday now. Well, I'm glad that you finally over that hungover. Yeah, I wasn't hungover. was just so, thank gosh, I wasn't hungover. Could you imagine?
00:10:07
Speaker
Yeah. But I i wasn't hungover. was just exhausted and very tired. But we did. We stayed till bar close, which we do at other kind of straight bars because I i don't live like in the gayborhood anymore. But I just never get that drunk when we stay out till bar close normally.
00:10:26
Speaker
Yeah, I still remember the day that it was our space and I lived down the street from you and would go to a gay bar on a Wednesday and gets really drunk, laying into bar clothes.
00:10:40
Speaker
We were also like in our twenty s though.
00:10:44
Speaker
I'm still in my 20. The other day I was like, I saw a meme that say, I don't know how like somebody born in 2000 were 25 and I'm also 25. Here's the thing. You can pull it off. You look great for your age.
00:10:58
Speaker
Oh, thank you. You don't. You little fucking bitch.
00:11:05
Speaker
I'm trying my best over here. I'm joking. Your skin's better than mine, actually. You say that all the time, but I think you have glorious skin. Wait, are we now in a relationship? complimenting We never compliment each other. no ah Affirmation is very rare in this friendship.

Beverage Choices and Streaming Services

00:11:23
Speaker
right, Jason. So what are you drinking this week? Just being Seattleite. I have coffee on one hand and coffee on another.
00:11:33
Speaker
but it looks like a homemade coffee in a mug and then you went off to a coffee coffee shop as well today? Yeah, I went to a ah ah place called Sugar Bakery down the street from me earlier and had this very nice coffee.
00:11:45
Speaker
They did not have sleeves for this and... was like burning you. It was burning me and i saw other people were like walking out with the same thing. So Seattle, people in Seattle like to be burned by their coffee.
00:12:01
Speaker
They get like, but they built up their tolerance, their heat tolerance in their hands. and the top I think you're hiding something from the listeners too on what you else you're drinking.
00:12:11
Speaker
A glass of wine as well. Per usual. i mean, I need one to be creative. and Yeah, no, i don't I don't blame you. And wine is very on brand for you.
00:12:23
Speaker
What about you? What are you drinking? Well, I'm still using the infamous pink Bellagio tumbler. I'm just drinking good old healthy H2O. But I will say I'm kind of in the mood for a margarita and I have all the ingredients.
00:12:35
Speaker
We sometimes take breaks when we record. So maybe I will make a margarita over the course of recording today. For sure. I would be down for margarita.
00:12:46
Speaker
She will open her late. Is that one margarita? And then two. too much but Rain rot it. BrainRot core.
00:12:57
Speaker
So let's get into some of the topics that are popular this week in pop culture. Yeah, let's dive in. One of the biggest topic was the rebranding of HBO Max to HBO.
00:13:10
Speaker
After it was already HBO to begin with. After it goes to Max. My pronouns now Max HBO. You need to play that meme. Okay, well, we'll add this to the Instagram, but here it is.
00:13:24
Speaker
Miranda, I have known you for a hundred years. And am I not allowed to change a little bit or or change back again if I feel like it?
00:13:35
Speaker
Meme is on the Instagram page. That was one of the better ones. Sorry. I want to know whoever's in charge of making that rebrand and how much they got paid. Easy money.
00:13:47
Speaker
A lot. I have very... personal experience with that type of consulting and I do not like it. It's a certain that I will never work with.
00:13:58
Speaker
Let's put that way. Speaking of HBO, is there also an other HBO news? Yeah, there are plenty of shows on HBO right now that are amazing.
00:14:09
Speaker
Last of Us is ending current season. I really liked it. I don't know if you ever heard about it. No, i've I've never seen it, but I know the show.
00:14:19
Speaker
Yeah, it's based on a video game. It's the second season um starring Pedro Pascal, my husband. let And i just think it's actually better than i expected because I did not go into the season with high expectation at all.
00:14:37
Speaker
And it's just better than all the haters because they hate on the show because Bella Ramsey is... they them pronouns and i think they're just like a bone to pick with that.
00:14:53
Speaker
who So Bella did a great job. Let's put it that way. So now at the end of this season, i think I'm dealing with post season depression.
00:15:06
Speaker
but Are you sad that it's ending? Is it that good? Yeah. Like when you have like a really good show and you have all these conversations with people around it like yeah when the show ends. I know. I hate that. That that happened to me when Schitt's Creek ended. 100%.

Reality TV Excitement and Nostalgia

00:15:22
Speaker
We were. Yeah, that was so sad. I just wanted that to go on forever.
00:15:28
Speaker
Well, in Bravo News, we had a bunch of announcements um in the last week or so. And we talked about how there were rumors of Real Housewives of Seattle happening, which has not been ruled out, but they did announce Real Housewives of Rhode Island is officially confirmed.
00:15:47
Speaker
I don't think we know much about the cast or if they are currently filming. I'm assuming they probably are, but I have not done a deep dive on that. I just heard the announcement and I thought that was exciting. We have another franchise to look forward to. and And they were bringing back a housewife from another franchise for Rhode Island, right?
00:16:04
Speaker
Oh, I don't know. I haven't looked into that about casting. I thought you have the whole thing down. I literally just said i I just said to you that I didn't do a deep dive. I just heard the the announcement.
00:16:15
Speaker
OK, anyways. And then they also announced Wife Swap, which was a show that I used to watch, I think, on ABC way back in the day. And I think they're doing it with.
00:16:26
Speaker
past or current Real Housewives, but it's when you swap your wife with somebody else's wife and go live their life. And I always really liked the show. I mean, I probably shouldn't have been watching it as young as I was, but um i'm excited I'm really excited for that one. That announcement was kind of a shocker. So I'm ready for for a real housewives, wife swap season. no Now I'm wondering what kind of shows did you watch as a kid?
00:16:52
Speaker
I always watched TV that I wasn't supposed to. Like I would sneak down like at night and watch remember like Desperate Housewives and what's his name and with the abs? He was so hot. And that's like, that was my gay awakening.
00:17:07
Speaker
Also, the fact that I was watching a TV show called Desperate Housewives, which was all about these like hot women, in hot suburban moms. Like, I don't know why was watching that as a literal child, but here we are.
00:17:22
Speaker
Let's say, what is our favorite Desperate Housewife housewife? One, two, three. Bri. I'm trying to think of their names. So long. ever um the one The one that played the one who um ah so not Sophia, the one who was in all the L'Oreal commercials. What's her act? The actress's name in the show?
00:17:48
Speaker
Um, Longoria. yeah Yes. Uh, Gabriella Solis. Yes. She was my favorite. Yes. She was, she was the one that slept with the gardener. That was your game. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Yep.
00:17:59
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Gosh, that, but that seriously, that show is so old. I'm not supposed to be watching that show. I still remember the finale with like, when she was driving around, when the main character was driving around in the hysteria lane.
00:18:13
Speaker
Yep. And And then all the ghost of Wisteria Lane was around her like ex-husband was like, did you remember that? I do. do. I was sobbing. I know that was so quiet.
00:18:28
Speaker
And that was another show that was on for quite a long time. I don't remember how many seasons, but that was on for really, really long time. And I think kind of redefined like late night TV shows.

Book Recommendations and TV Season Gaps

00:18:38
Speaker
you know they They were really good at what they did, that show.
00:18:41
Speaker
Yeah. You know what? It changed our life. It made us into housewives. Pretty much. and One day. in our mid-30s as many. So because I've been traveling a lot this week, I've been reading a lot because plain I'm with my reader all the time.
00:18:57
Speaker
And a book that I've been reading Yellow Face by R.F. Kuang. Okay. It's so good. i really highly recommend. um Because gay boys don't read. i just want to, you know, just advocate for that.
00:19:11
Speaker
I read magazines. That's about the extent of my reading. um but What's it about? So the book, you you know the term yellow face, right?
00:19:24
Speaker
Yep. Yeah. So like Scarlett Johansson. So this book, the central premise is that two best friends One very successful Asian second gen Chinese immigrant, one a white girl from the Midwest.
00:19:43
Speaker
They both went to Yale, but the Asian girl got super famous for writing a debut novel. And then they were celebrating with pancakes. And then the Asian girl dies from choking from pancakes.
00:19:58
Speaker
On a pancake. On a pancake. And then the white girl found a manuscript of the next novel. I know where this is going. And she stole it. Stole it.
00:20:09
Speaker
Yeah. Yes. And published as her name.
00:20:15
Speaker
And she pretended to be the author of this novel, but unfortunately it's about Chinese labor in World War two So there's no way a white girl from the Midwest would have. Like, would write that.
00:20:28
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. and And so the later half, I'm getting into the later half now, but they start to like discover it by like context clue because she changed her name into something that sound vaguely ethnic.
00:20:43
Speaker
like Her middle name is Song. So she changed her name to June Song instead of June Hayward. Oh, okay. Yeah. And they start to find out that she's a white girl. I got now I want to this sounds like up my alley. I love I love stories like this, like some some suspense, some drama, just something exciting.
00:21:00
Speaker
So you said sorry, it's called Yellow what? Yellow Face. Yellow Face is the name of the book. OK, I gotcha. We will also put that on Instagram so people can see what the cover of that book looks like. Oh, my God, it's iconic, too. Yeah, it looks like it sounds really good.
00:21:14
Speaker
I know it's such a good book. I love it. So Jason, let's talk about what's in and what's out for you this week. Well, I was just talking about The Last of Us.
00:21:27
Speaker
I think what's out for me is ah the breaks between TV season. These days, studios wanted to make sure that the budgets stay in line. So they make the TV seasons really far between each other.
00:21:43
Speaker
By the time that the next season come out, you already lost all your interest. or I feel like a lot of times when there's those big breaks with TV shows and series, it's like by the time that next season comes out that I was originally so excited for, i almost have to rewatch the ah the old season again and just to get my head back in the plot fully or else I'm not going to pick up on the little things that were probably present in seasons past.
00:22:10
Speaker
Right. I definitely agree. I think um breaks between tv series is out for me as well. And I have a take on this for reality television.
00:22:21
Speaker
We love like the Real Housewives franchises and we love a good reality TV show. And we're seeing these big breaks in between seasons, like big breaks. And I remember back in the day,
00:22:33
Speaker
Oftentimes, they would be picking up like those cameras and they're already filming the next season before the current season finishes airing. And they don't really do that anymore. And you're just seeing these big moments of time and gaps in between seasons as they recast or you know rehire who they want to bring back. And then you know there's discussions about pay ranges and there's all these negotiations and contracts that have to be official before they can pick up the cameras and start filming. And a lot of time you're just missing chunks of time that just have to be quickly recapped once the new season comes out.
00:23:13
Speaker
I just miss back in the day when they were constantly filming or the second that that TV show ended, they'd start filming the next season right away. And that used to be what was happening. It was like round the clock and they were churning out seasons and seasons of reality TV.
00:23:28
Speaker
And now we're starting to see them taking these big, big breaks in between filming. It just, when you're really looking forward and excited for a season and you know, okay, now I have to wait a minimum of seven to nine months, minimum, for them to even start airing the first episode of the next season, it can be, it's like, Drat, why do I have to wait so long? Right.
00:23:52
Speaker
Well, we just took a tiny little break and I'm happy to report that i came back with my margarita that I decided to make. i thought I had limes, but I only had lemons. So this is a lemon margarita, not a lime margarita, but I'm excited to try it.
00:24:08
Speaker
Cheers. Finally. Cheers, queer. Now that's good. Energy mash mine. Finally.
00:24:17
Speaker
What is that? Your fifth glass wine? Just kidding. To deal with you. Now that we're orally moisturized. Now that we are sufficiently orally moisturized.
00:24:32
Speaker
um We can head into Cringe of the Week. so So Jason, you kick us off with this one.

Social Media Peeves and Music Defenses

00:24:39
Speaker
Yes, I have a cringe of the week that lately I see more and more and more and I hate it.
00:24:45
Speaker
Like when somebody posts a vacation pics three months after the day and um they recycle their content from obvious past season vacations.
00:24:59
Speaker
Girl, it's May. You're in Tulum in February. Let it go. Jason, I'm embarrassed now. What did you do?
00:25:11
Speaker
Okay, it's not something that I've done yet. When I went to Florida last month, I never posted anything to socials. So I have all of these pictures scheduled to post this next weekend when I'm at home.
00:25:23
Speaker
Well, the thing is, that's different, right? You never monetized or you never actually... post the picture. Well, I didn't post them. It was only a month ago. So long story short, we went to Epcot. So I have all these cute photos from us, quote, traveling around the world because you get to travel the world. And that was I was going to put up a cute little carousel of all the photos, but like they're not I'm not actually going to be there when I post them.
00:25:48
Speaker
And that's OK. You're you're still posting it for the first time. But good point. It's not like I'm reposting. It's not like I'm pumping out content and then reposting something thinking people aren't going to notice it.
00:26:02
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. This is also different than um an event that is once in a year, like EDC. Like you can still post something on your story that say, I missed this.
00:26:12
Speaker
Yeah. But if you do a full on post three months later and acting like you are on vacation. Yeah. Yeah. That's cringe, right? That is cringe. I do agree with that.
00:26:23
Speaker
And for me, it's about, I don't post a ton. I wish I posted more just because I do like to look back on memories. And we are so notorious of never taking enough photos. Like, even though, even since you've moved away, when we hang out together, it's like we...
00:26:40
Speaker
Maybe it's just I'm biased because we are best friends, but I just feel like we never take enough pictures because I want like millions of us together. Right. So when I do go on trips, I will kind of bank pictures because I want the memories if I remember to.
00:26:55
Speaker
But most of them just never see the light of day. And that's fine. Like you are taking pictures for yourself. So it doesn't matter if you don't post them. But the problem for me is when you treat your pictures like influencers do where it's like, oh, it's just another angle of this experience that I already shared to the world.
00:27:16
Speaker
Yeah, it seems inauthentic. It seems like you're just desperate for attention or building content without actually putting in the effort to build the content like we do right now with the podcast. so No, for sure.
00:27:26
Speaker
And I am all for a good throwback. Like I want to see like a good throwback to a good memory or like a core memory or a life milestone.
00:27:37
Speaker
i want to see that from my friend group. I want to see, oh wow, you went to this cool concert three years ago. And here's this awesome photo of the group that I went with. Like, I want to see that. I support that.

Speaker
Nobody need to see a bikini photo three months later um of the same exact yeah just a different angle. Yeah, no, that's true. So Jason, do you have any other hot takes for the week?
00:28:04
Speaker
Yes, I do. Spill. this Spill says, this actually might get you going. So this hot tech is Lady Gaga. intrigued. i got Yeah. About Lady Gaga?
00:28:16
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Okay. My hot tech is Lady Gaga has always been about musical theater. And... and Art pop was not weird. Art pop was correct and people just didn't get it.
00:28:30
Speaker
And she scared off the streets back then. But she spent five or so years trying to chase everything but that because she thought that was what not working.
00:28:43
Speaker
But actually it worked. They just didn't get it yet. And now she came back to that and it worked now. Artpop was before its time in the best way possible because she not just turned off a lot of, like you said, her think you said straight fan fans, but a lot of the gays did not fuck with it at all.
00:29:05
Speaker
Yeah, and and yeah the straight gays. Huh? The straight the general public, like not like the insider gays, I guess. And I just find artpop to be...
00:29:19
Speaker
one of the best records in modern day pop music. And for a number of reasons that we don't need to get into because i I could probably start my own podcast about why art pop deserves all the recognition on the planet.
00:29:38
Speaker
So we don't need to get into that, but I think it is worth a listen if you've never listened to it. And it is something that I really find mother coming back to terms with and people are eating up what she's doing right now.
00:29:56
Speaker
And a lot of it is very art pop coded my opinion. I totally agree. It's very theater. It's very camp. Camp, yeah. It's high art. And she was doing this shit back when Art Pop came out, and everyone turned their backs to her.
00:30:12
Speaker
And she was giving... weird, funk, crazy, manic. Like she was giving us what, I mean, I resonated with it because I'm weird and full of trauma and like just crazy myself. But, but it, it truly is something that is to be recognized. And I was really happy when she came out of those shows in Brazil that she did that all of her music went to the top of the charts, including Art Pop as a record.
00:30:46
Speaker
And Art Pop is seeing its justice now. People are streaming that record worldwide at record numbers. and these are songs that were never singles.
00:30:58
Speaker
These are songs that she doesn't perform often, if ever, anymore. and people are like, whoa, this is... Art. Art. no No pun intended. It's art pop. It's incredible.
00:31:10
Speaker
So that has made me really, really happy. You and I have a mutual friend that is also very much obsessed with the art pop record, which is a friend that you introduced me to.
00:31:23
Speaker
And we bonded over um that record. And I was so happy to at that time to meet somebody who had appreciation for that record.
00:31:35
Speaker
And it's still one of the one things that we bond over and still talk about because it is some of our favorite work from from Mother. I think it's worth it to mention that our friend and I just had a really good experience in EDC together. And i mean, we also chat a lot and we chat about you. And it makes total sense for me that he and you would bond over our pop because that's exactly how he is.
00:32:04
Speaker
But another thing on this is that I just wanted to add that I think any artists, especially Gaga, who is so creative and strange, right?
00:32:15
Speaker
in a good way. In a good way. They're the most powerful when they're authentically themselves. Correct. Yeah. And when we we know she's okay, the energy is good.
00:32:26
Speaker
I think when you lean into that being authentic and you lean into that, but you accept who you are and how you are, that actually makes more equity to your brand to be vulnerable yet to be okay with your vulnerability.
00:32:41
Speaker
Yep. A hundred percent. Yeah. So that was my hot tech. And I love that you have so much. ah Stephanie Germanotta. You're always famous.

Future Plans and Podcast Growth

00:32:51
Speaker
Remember that Facebook group?
00:32:53

00:33:06
Speaker

We're looking forward to seeing them. And then I believe in August, we are going on a little road trip to see Nelly and Kane Brown perform at a music festival. Kind of a random combo, right? but it's good Nelly from Seattle?
00:34:30
Speaker
No, Nelly. No, no. What? The Nelly. ah This is so millennial core. the gen I love it. No, I love it.
00:34:42

00:35:05
Speaker
And I think we're probably going to try to organize a ah trip at that point. I probably glossed over a million things that we're still doing this summer, but those are kind of the bigger things that I definitely am looking forward to.
00:35:16
Speaker

she such You guys, she's a flop. Her fans are going come for us. Me. Me specifically. Bring it. Bring a J-Lo fan. I love J-Lo. Thank you so much for coming.
00:35:54
Speaker
I love J-Lo. Don't kill me. Well, I'm excited to see Cynthia Erivo. Where? In Warpride. No way! What is she doing? Is she doing like a cassette or is she just like speaking? is She is singing songs from Wicked and her new album.
00:36:11
Speaker
Oh my gosh! I just saw this... um We'll get back to your summer, but I just saw this episode of Poker Face that stars the that incredible actress from Orange the New Black, ah Natasha Lyonne, I think I'm saying that right.
00:36:25
Speaker
And Cynthia Erivo just cameoed in the episode and played like four different characters in the same episode. It was so good. Any other sets that you're excited for? Well, besides J-Lo, there's only Sivan.
00:36:39

00:37:05
Speaker
