Humorous Mind Technique with a Bird
00:00:00
Speaker
Well, I suggest a classic mind technique and send down a bird, check the air, and I'll clap my fingers. And those birds die. Can your bird see in the dark? Does your bird breathe? I don't know the answer to any of those questions.
Introduction to Characters and World of Aerith
00:00:41
Speaker
Hello and welcome to this week's episode of the Fellowship of the Tabletop. We are a live play, 5e D&D podcast set in the world of Aerith. My name is Mark, I am the dungeon master and I just had a lovely chicken biryani, I must admit. And also with us for today's episode we have Ian who plays the dragonborn barbarian Drago. What up? We've got Darren who plays the human fighter rogue Robin.
00:01:03
Speaker
What do they call it, Batman? We've got Casey, who plays the human champion, Helen, a sleepguard. Hello. We've got Will, who plays the human-barred cast man. I'm just excited to be here. Danny, who plays the human cleric Claude. Milk, milk, lemonade. And we've got Callum, who plays the gnome sorcerer, folly, fizzlebang, the ninth.
00:01:24
Speaker
Hello, hello. Now, Callum, I know I left you to last that, even though I changed the entire order up, but I feel like yours is a good one to finish on. Consistent. Yeah, that's what I think. I actually had a different one I was going to do and then I decided against it. I like your standard hello, hello. You have gone through a couple of times where you've absolutely stolen from other people. Are you all in tech boy? I'm in tech boy.
00:01:52
Speaker
So what happened last week, Mark? That's a very good question, Ian. Thank you so much for bringing it to my attention. Last week.
Recap of Blackmouth's Turmoil
00:02:01
Speaker
had the extended party together. We headed down into Blackmouth, we came across a couple of troubles there. We met a man who was imprisoned by some of the very small parts of the Sully Guard surge outside of Blackmouth. We understand that the rebels in Blackmouth had kind of taken over again and that King Leopold II had sent only a very small force to retake it. Its importance is seen through its masses of minds which have yet been abandoned for quite some time. Upon speaking to this man that was outside the camp, we came to the realization that he had been
00:02:33
Speaker
of a guard within the camp outside of the entrance to the mines. You were told about him being found near the location but definitely being not the one who did it and the party seemed to believe him as we went. We managed to meet up with this individual's brother and as we got into camp into the inside of Blackmouth
00:02:57
Speaker
We went into a tavern, a silent tavern, where no one was in there and discussed the ins and outs of the intro pursuit of what was it.
00:03:03
Speaker
what we need to do to be able to sort this out. We end the episode with us heading out of the tavern, in towards Blackmouth, again, trying to figure out where we were going to go. We're going to the mouth of the mine, which is in the kind of far end of the city. If we remember also, the city is kind of a ruin, the whole city is a ruin, and then this town had been built within the ruins of the old Blackmouth, which is famous for its rebellions against the Crown and against the Sleek Guard royal family.
00:03:33
Speaker
So we find ourselves about midday outside of a tavern in Blackmouth. There's some people walking past that they're few and far between. They seem melancholic and they seem rather busy as well. If you look back towards the gates far off to your left you can see on the gates
00:03:50
Speaker
a number of archers, which you would have seen walking in, cloaked as you saw them in black. These were parts of the Blackmouth Rangers, a very powerful elite archer force, if you will. That King Leopold II is very keen to get back onside, mainly because of their prowess with the bows and the oncoming problem of the Blights, pretty much. So, we've found ourselves out there. What do we want to do?
00:04:14
Speaker
So, onto the mine, right? Yeah, I think the plan was that we were going to, because that's where someone was killed. He was guarding the entrance, we were told that that person was murdered and that's where the nice innkeeper, who we've just left, it's his brother that's now been accused of killing that man, so I thought we were going to investigate that. So, onto the mine. That seems the most logical place to go.
00:04:40
Speaker
Yes, I'm ready. I'm so excited! Oh great, you're coming along, are you? Yeah! He's giving me a headache. I can give something for that, I think. It's pretty bad if you're giving Claude a headache. Well, I'm sure you're going to need me, so if I come, he's obviously got to come with. Thanks, Princess. No, you can't call her that. Thanks, little Princess.
00:05:07
Speaker
We'll try and keep it low-key. Okay. Thanks. Night. That'll do. Stop speaking. Okay. So as you look off to the right from your current location, you can see a path leading deeper into Blackmouth. You notice the buildings start to stack themselves higher and higher on top of themselves, but you can still see just past this the ruins
00:05:29
Speaker
imagine kind of the broken white walls of Gondor, if you will, so that kind of old ancient majesty that once might have held Blackmouth in some regard, which had now fallen totally into disrepute and disrepair, given that the young boy, if you remember, had told you about the siege that took place in the raising of the city, and you paid him lots of money and he fainted, and then ran off, still quoting lines as he ran off.
00:05:53
Speaker
As you continue to walk through you notice strange looks from people. This doesn't come as a surprise given the makeup of your party and the ever-growing number of people and the differences that seem to hold true in this party. Finally you pass a rather large looking citadel on your left as the path continues up. No other buildings seem to be around here but as the path lifts you see about 200 feet, 350
00:06:20
Speaker
the wide chasmed o of the face of a mine and off to the side you can see a couple of carts that are off haven't been used in years and years there's very obvious cobwebs over it this area seems quite close to the center of town but also quite empty and devoid of life and people.
Investigation of Blackmouth Mine
00:06:39
Speaker
Robin I think maybe you should check for traps around this area you've got a keen eye for this.
00:06:53
Speaker
Okay, I'll have you know, if it comes back positive, I will be running in there. And I'm gonna do it now. Okay. You look constipated, are you okay? What did you mean? The undead radar blip thing. Not shit yourself. What's a radar? No. Oh, of course.
00:07:19
Speaker
Just a general question while we pause there. We were told that the mind's guarded and we can't get in, weren't we? The lamb just left it. Yeah, there's men at the thing. There's men there, yeah. Yeah. This is absolutely the quiet distance away from it. This is kind of oddly approachable. You can see these broken minds and what it looks like, the remnants of a path where maybe a cart, like a cart, a mine cart might have been pushed along. But yes, you can in the distance see a pair of guards, these are black-mouthed rangers, stood at the door, not really paying any attention. You're still quite distanced off at this point.
00:07:47
Speaker
Might I suggest, Claude, that those rangers will have something to say about you charging into that mine? You can suggest that. Shall I go talk to them? No. I'm not talking to people. No, definitely not. I would like to cast the eyes of the grave and get a check of 60 feet if there is any undead. You are about 200 feet away from the mouth of the mine. Oh, I'll wait till I'm closer. Okay, so wait till you're closer. When you do your pin... Wait, hang on a minute. Are you saying that you want to get the mouth of the mine in your pin?
00:08:15
Speaker
No, I would like to be stood inside the first millimetres of the mine and then... Okay, right, so we'll hold fire that for now, later once we get in. As you start to approach, one of the guards steps forward and holds a hand up in a halting kind of sign. What do you do? Cast hand, hold the hand up. Hello! Oh god. Please don't wave at me. Put your hand down. Okay, sorry. The other archer has his fingers on equiv- uh, fingers on the fla-
00:08:39
Speaker
What is it called again? Fletching. Fletching's of an arrow behind his head but he hasn't lifted it. I thought you were just waving to friendly. We don't do friendly very well here in Blackmouth. Oh. Stay your hand on that arrow. We have an archer of our own. He reaches over to the person next to him. The guard x-men kind of just taps him on the shoulder to release his hand away. And they stand still very much alert to this large group of individuals walking towards them. State your business. We are here to
00:09:07
Speaker
ascertain what has happened here. We believe that we can help you. We are well-experienced travellers who believe we can give assistance to your town. He held up a finger. Let me just stop you there. We know what happened here. Henler killed one of the guards, one of the sleep guards' surge. As much as we like to see them dead, we can't have a murderer loose within Blackmouth. So he's been apprehended, and yes, we lost him. But that's where he belongs. I assume you've all met Henler? Yes. Does he strike you as the type of person
00:09:41
Speaker
What's the first time I've been called young in many years? I'm grateful for that. Have you lived a long time in that one? Who decided it? Decided what? Who decided that Hentler was the murderer? He was found at the scene. Any other proof? I assumed you looked at the rest of you. That would be proof enough? Not necessarily. Could we? I don't know. If Hentler was perhaps, had turned up, perhaps some evidence might be needed.
00:10:07
Speaker
He kind of looks to the person next to him back again. We discover that we found a dagger which was near him. Where is this dagger now? We haven't moved it. Oh, where is? He points down to the side and you can very clearly see a small dagger sat on the ground. Ooh! We left it there and if you're interested he looks a bit weird at why you would be interested. We can show you where we found the body. That'd be great, can I have a look?
00:10:32
Speaker
Can I just handle the dagger first and then yes? No, no, no, you should leave it in place first. You can't disturb the scene until we've investigated it properly. Okay, I don't know who you are too much.
00:10:47
Speaker
goes over to the dagger and picks it up. Ok, what you notice about it is he would also take it to Robin, Claude and Folly as well as to kind of gather everything around it. Ok, we're going to huddle around it. Yeah, just then turn it, slowly rotate it in his hand because we'll, as I said last episode, did Elle Fear have a dagger? And that's where we're trying to find out now.
00:11:11
Speaker
As the member of the party who would think it's best to say was probably closest to welfare for a prolonged period of time, I would like to investigate the dagger to see if there are any hallmarks that would suggest it belonged to welfare. While you're doing that, Carson, I'm just going to lean and sort of peer around going, ooh. Brilliant. Yeah, of course. So do you want to roll for investigation then, please? Robin? 22. OK. You look very clear at the dagger.
00:11:39
Speaker
You look very closely at him. You remember back to a time when you saw Althea wield a dagger? This does not look at all like a dagger that Althea's wield. Well, welt. Weilded? Weilded, thank you. Has wielded that you can remember at all. What you also ascertain as you look at the dagger is that the design is unorthodox.
00:11:59
Speaker
It doesn't have a kind of a T hilt to stop your hand coming out the blade when you stab with it. It is a single piece of material. The half of the black dagger is metal, made of a regular looking steel. But the base, the hilt, is the most interesting part because the hilt has a slight kind of wave to it and is made of a very, very, very dark wood.
00:12:20
Speaker
a very dark wood, almost black in terms of wood. It doesn't look like a, black as in like a dying, blighty wood, but just like a, this comes from almost an ashen coloured
00:12:32
Speaker
but an ashen-coloured wood really, really, really good. Like obsidian kind of thing? Yes, but wood. Okay. As someone who would have had the means of hiding things up sleeves, this is immediately striking me as you describe it as something that might belong to an assassin that could hide up the sleeve of a blade. Are you saying this to a blade? I would say this to you guys. I would go, that's no dagger that's been picked up from a barber or that's akin to what a professional assassin would use. You could hide that up a sleeve.
00:12:59
Speaker
Assassin, as in, Elphir. I don't think it's Elphir, but I thought I knew Elphir quite well and it turned out I was wrong. Finally. That was weird. Wow. I do not like that. The master is radical. No, no, no, no. You two are very much on the same wavelength. Oh, no. Lord, what were you going to say? I just happened to cough.
00:13:23
Speaker
Folly. Folly. This doesn't look like something I've seen in a foraging sleep guard. Is it like a sword or a dagger you would get in a single in a land?
00:13:37
Speaker
It's not something that I would recommend, but if it is indeed an assassin's dagger, then... Well, I didn't familiarise myself with many assassins. No, but does it look like the weapons were... Just think, picture a regular singly land sword. Does it look like that? No, no, nothing that I remember. Or any of the other kingdoms that you've been to in your troubles? I can't say I would know. Put your hand down, Kelston. Kelston, quiet.
00:14:04
Speaker
Can I look? I've seen your book! You're... um... you're... Lation... Latum... Hmm... You! Over there! A fellow travelling companion of a similar state of symbol. Can you recognise this type of forgery? No, I can't. I can't recognise it. I thought one of you would be able to. No. Listen, all we know is that it wasn't Hentler.
00:14:34
Speaker
That's clear. That's all we assume we know. Let me look. Can I investigate it please? Yeah of course. Okay I've got a 22 before rolling dice.
00:14:45
Speaker
I'm an amazing bastard. Er, that's fine. I can apologise if you want to, but... You discovered no more really than... But I don't know if you've made where you've come from or since. No, you, in terms of origin, you won't have seen this at all. You get the same kind of information that Robin got as you was with Rosalind. 22. He's really winning. But what you do notice though, and what's your, your, your, your passive is quite high, isn't it? Passive perception is 26. You beast. So as you...
00:15:14
Speaker
Try and look at the dagger to try and get any more information out to try and impress the party in some way. What you notice is you very clearly see where the body had laid. There's some deep thick mud that the body had splattered down in. What you do notice just over past that is two sets of tracks. Two sets of tracks approaching the body and then two sets of tracks leaving the body. Where do they come from? They come from within the mind.
00:15:37
Speaker
Guys, look over here, quick, quick, quick, and cast out dashes over to there. Look, there are tracks coming from the mine to where the body was. They don't look like human tracks.
Debate Over Hentler's Guilt
00:15:47
Speaker
I don't think they do either. They look like horse tracks. There's four of them. No, no. There was a horse. They're next to each other. Unless the horse was walking sideways, Claude, which would make a really good joke.
00:16:00
Speaker
Please write that, Will. Please write that joke. So, I think it's worth pointing out at this point that they're planning on blowing up these mines. We might want to stop that. Why are you guarding the mines?
00:16:10
Speaker
Thanks to the two soldiers. There's still ways through into the deeper portions of the mine and into the Skullroad Mountains. There's a lot of money to be made in there. I'm under strict orders to stop anyone from entering just in case I try and pillage those metals. Especially, uh, especially Pillon the blacksmith. He's after some of the metals in here. Fair enough. Right. Come here. You can see there's two tracks here. You've arrested one guy. Well, he's obviously got an accomplice. And he looks to have headed in the mine.
00:16:50
Speaker
and find the other well they may have found one just to clarify yeah I'm confused if you discovered the body first mr. guard wouldn't you be the murderer by that logic well no I didn't kill anyone so just because the other guy found the body first you think he did he was
00:17:08
Speaker
hysterical around the body. I'm guessing these soldiers here don't have the power to wave a murder or condemn a murder but we do need to get to the line. Well was hentless stood? Then he points over in kind of the mouth of the mine he was facing out towards the body that was lying there and his eyes were locked on it he wasn't moving he was panting.
00:17:37
Speaker
Might I just ask one very quick thing? You said there's a lot of resources in that mind, and I think it's worth something to you. Well not to me personally, but to the Kingdom and to Blackmouth, yes. So this stop magic is going to come along and blow all that up. You're going to give that away as
Negotiation for Mine Entry
00:17:51
Speaker
collateral. Which is understandable if you're struggling with the undead inside. However...
00:17:56
Speaker
We are quite good at clearing out such things. Perhaps if we can get into the mine, we could save your resources, save the mine, and in turn, enrich this community that you're trying to rebuild. Also, we can capture the other guy that went into the mine. You've got one. There's another one missing. There's a horse on the loose. I was going to say, give me a check of, um, what, persuasion? Persuasion with advantage until Drago shouted, so just regular persuasion please.
00:18:26
Speaker
That is a 23. The guard looks at you and you've won a vote pretty much by the end. The dragonborn is uncooked but he is a servant of justice and when I say that... I'm not a servant of anything. Or a coop. That took a second, that took a second man. That was a grower. So do you wish to save the reserves you've got in your mind? If so, we are... I'm...
00:18:59
Speaker
But bear one thing in mind, we have no idea what is in the mind. All we know is there are echoes that come from the mind in the deep of the night that reverberate up through the streets of Blackmouth.
00:19:15
Speaker
wives speak of screams and utterances of a demonic kind. Whether or not these old wives' tales are not, I don't know, but it's something you should be wary of heading in. It's been many, many years since the deep of these mines has been properly explored. We don't know how far through the old owners of Blackmouth went.
00:19:36
Speaker
You know what they would have reached? How long do we have before you're going to bring in this stock match? Should I blow it up? Because we don't want to get buried. It would be really awkward. You know what I'll do? I'll... I'll shag down if they become close, but I'll hold them off if you're in there. They won't want to seal you off within it, but just don't dawdle. Thank you. You're the best. You're the best guy I've ever met. Thank you. You're the best boy I've seen today. Thanks. Cheers. You're welcome.
00:20:06
Speaker
I'm so happy that there's a horse in the cave, what echoes sound. God, it's not a horse. Can I investigate Hitler's tracks and around there as well? Absolutely. And as you look around there, you can very clearly actually make out the difference between Hitler's tracks, which are slightly smaller in feet size, and then these tracks. What you notice, again, because you're like CSI Miami in one, I love it. You can hear ratio, amazing. What you notice is
00:20:35
Speaker
in this mud is slightly muddy in the mud tracks of yourself in the mud tracks of the guards in the mud tracks of hentler you can see regular mud tracks in these two sets of tracks upon closer inspection what you notice is around the edges of these tracks a slight blackening
00:20:57
Speaker
Look at this. Claude, Claude, come on up, come on up. Look, but these tracks, so these are hemlers, normal like this, nice mud, but these ones, the ones of the horse that you think is, and Carson's putting very common around the horse. I know what that means. You could do that thing with your hands. Of course you do. It does again. So, but look, it's blackened around the edges. That's really weird.
00:21:28
Speaker
and how can they still be demon horse? okay so we've said it's not hetler yeah because it's the demon horse okay i'm willing to accept it could be demon cow
00:21:42
Speaker
Make haste. Before we enter the mine, we should flag up how bad visibility is going to be in there. Do we have the means to... Yep. I've got a torch. Clap my hands and a massive ball of light appears. Jolly goo. Oh, here we go. So, I'm guessing torch. Do you want to go in first?
00:21:58
Speaker
Yep, and I've got a shiny new shield, so I've got two lights and a cup. It's like Carsten whips out his book and goes, there's a song about this. Helena's going to get both of her flails out ready. If the moment that I've stepped into the mine, I'd like to do the eyes of the grave check for undead in 60 feet. Vivid.
00:22:19
Speaker
Vivid? A vivid ping, but it's slightly outside of the range. Okay. I guess you think that it is a vivid ping. Demon horse is definitely a dead demon horse. Brilliant! Folly? Yes? You have a perch on Sophia? I would have liked Brad, but yes. Maybe don't blow the mine up. The air is gonna be quite thin.
00:22:47
Speaker
Just a warning. I will try. I'm not making any promises. I promise not to blow up the mind too, just in case it becomes relevant. Danny's reassuring. And I'm doing air quotes when I say reassuring. Thank you, Cluck. You know what? You're the nicest Hellstorm Turd member I've ever met.
00:23:03
Speaker
We need to move through this. We're not allowed inside the city. No, it's being mine of illusions, but funny! I've completely forgot that. You've got to get me killed, you stupid bastard! And you hear all the guards say, hang on a minute, did one of you mention Hells? Okay, let's go! On the mine! Down the mine! Let's go! The player assumed you still had your Tabite check. I really forgot it. I'm still, I can't believe it. As you walk through the entrance of the mine, silence ensues. How big's the entrance?
00:23:30
Speaker
wide enough for four of you to walk abreast. Four of you to walk abreast. I don't know why I'm puffing my chest out there now abreast. As you enter, not too worried about your order yet but I will ask in just a second.
00:23:43
Speaker
sound seems to deaden from the outside and you can get the real sense that this mine goes down and not necessarily in as you are at the base of
Exploration of the Eerie Mine
00:23:52
Speaker
a large mountain. Not up, but down. But that's the thing, you are at the foot of some rather massive mountains and so technically you could just drill straight into it and be at the very base of the mountain but this seems to really dip down into the deep dark depths of the Skiller Road Mountains. I love going down.
00:24:12
Speaker
And as you continue going down, what you start to notice is a series of very sturdy struts on either side of the entrance as the mine continues to go down. You see wooden struts going across the top to obviously support beams that hold it all in place. The air in there is thick and musty. It tastes almost like dust and cobwebs.
00:24:37
Speaker
There's silence. As you continue to walk down shadows cast by, sorry, shadows cast by Claude from his massive amounts of light, you can start to make out more disbanded, unused pickaxes, sets of carts, materials kind of laid strewn up on the side as you continue to walk down. I was going to say, it might be silent, but cast down is humming. Okay.
00:25:07
Speaker
It's been strewn as if people were fleeing or does it just look like it's been put down and then left to not be used ever again? Even with the 22 that's just left. I can roll if you want. You can go and get a roll. One investigation. Yes please. 24? I'll take your passive I think. Passive 26. No, so my passive investigation 22. Okay, take the 24 then.
00:25:30
Speaker
There are areas where you can see multiple pickaxes and shovels lined up rather neatly and then you can see a pile off to the side. Your inferences work either way, this could be that they've been disbanded at the end of a difficult shift and then never picked up again, or that indeed they've been thrown away, even with that kind of roll.
00:25:46
Speaker
You don't have the evidence needed to make that assumption. But there are no obvious signs of battle, there's no obvious signs of scarring, damage, there aren't any skeletons, there aren't any swords or any kind of weaponry, it's all very much just your run of the mill, rune of entry, mine material. What's making more noise?
00:26:05
Speaker
the humming of Karstan or the rustling of my clanky armour. The clankly armour is still higher in volume. I have interest there. Do you have a humming in general at the moment? Is there anything... We're not really a humming
00:26:30
Speaker
Oh. We're not a humming group. I could sing it. No. Tally looks up at that point. Could you? She's actually a little bit enthralled with that. John's here. Go on just a little bit and this thing echoes down the line as you sing it. Down in the deep where the undead refuse to sleep. Big Macau. Mysteries old, fill the halls of cold.
00:26:54
Speaker
Black as the night, as the souls of those we fight. Okay, okay, there's undead in here. We may as well just shout to them right now. I know, I can't believe that there's someone out there that is less stealthier than me. Tardy starts clapping and that echoes down the line. That was really good, you had a really good voice. Thank you.
00:27:17
Speaker
We're making a lot of noise. What else ends in the group? I know. I like to think I bring an air of jovality to you all. Robin, this group's changed. I know. I find I get headaches more frequently than they used to. Just as though we were walking down, followed, it's going to, not secretly, but silently cast Major on myself, just as we're venturing into the mine and doing it now. Bubbing up your, bubbing up your AC a couple of marks, lovely. Can I just ask, how long is the mine?
00:27:46
Speaker
With the light that is being thrown by Claude, which is 60 feet, I think. It's 20 feet full-on and a little bit dim, but it's against my mirrored shield, so I don't know if it's like... Yeah, I'll give you another 10 feet. Like a stage light works, it amplifies. I'm gonna give you another 10 feet on top of that. It's like a disco light.
00:28:07
Speaker
Like, you've got, it's 30 feet, 30 feet. Would you say it's going to amplify it up? It involves using both hands to be able to show it further. So you've got 60 feet. You can see 60 feet down the mine. You cannot see the end or it just seems to be going straight at this moment, straight down. So you can just see darkness at the far end, Helena. So as you continue to walk, I assume, Helena, I like your armour. It sucks. Thank you.
00:28:30
Speaker
It's very shiny. Yes, it was. I fought with you, to be honest. I don't know if I mentioned. You did, but I still don't really know what that is, so... They're an awesome elite, like, super fighting force. Well, yes. Oh, wait, like that Tieflin man we saw. Yeah, they helped us. Yeah, at the end of the Battle of Lakemore. Oh, I mean, it says... Who was that? Well, that was that chappy chap. I didn't remember his name, only the...
00:29:00
Speaker
Madam Arkward was sort of influenced by him. Was it, um, uh, Garmir? That was his name. Someone gets inspiration because I couldn't remember the name either. That was his name, Captain Garmir. He's amazing. Yes. You met him? Yeah. Tell me about him. He was tall. Is there anything that's not amazing to you, Garmir? He had horns. You're amazing too, Dragon. No, I'm really not.
00:29:29
Speaker
He had white hair and a big armour like the one that the princess is wearing. Good good good. And what did he sound like? What was his voice like? Did it rumble like the waves crashing against the sea? As Castan says that you hear a very audible
00:29:50
Speaker
echoed from down, down, down, deep in the mind, mind. Is that a demon? That wasn't me. I don't wish to interrupt your meta forecast, Dan, but maybe we should proceed with caution from here on. OK. I can't believe I'm actually glad that there could be a demon out there for us. A demon, undead demon, horse, just to clarify. I get it. Caution. OK, OK. Wait, just checking.
00:30:26
Speaker
You wouldn't want to leave out there in the rain. No, don't worry. I've got it on my person. Wow! Where do you hide things on your person? I'd like to do another walk, please. OK, and as you do, you get a very, very clear pain further down in the deep darks of mines. At the moment, is it still very linear? Yes, it's still very linear. My life suggests a classic mine technique and send down a bird to check the air, and I'll clap my fingers. And those birds die.
00:30:38
Speaker
The DM forgot. Chicken? Wait, just chicken. Just chicken? Not chicken, not like in Evershine.
00:30:56
Speaker
Can your bird see in the dark? Does your bird breathe? I don't know the answer to any of those questions. Nira, my girl, if anything happens to you, I promise I'll reforge you as a cat or something. And I'll let her... Oh, wait. And I'll cast light on her... um... talon. Nice. So as I get her... So Nira's going to very cautiously make her way further down. I believe it's up to 100 feet. I can stay. So Roman at this point has just stopped.
00:31:33
Speaker
like that as we follow near his path you see her a light move down the tunnel and then not too far from the distance probably about 50 feet away she takes a very tight right turn and continues down.
Discovery of a Magical Box
00:31:45
Speaker
What you end up seeing is this right turn you then see a door on the right which is made out of broken kind of mangled and mouldy wood. Further down the mine then starts to open up into a larger chasm before probably you run out of distance
00:32:02
Speaker
do you want to stay with that or do you want to? What I will do is I will come out and I will snap my fingers and Nira has disappeared into a pocket plane so when I've re-sewn her she'll be back with me and I will for expediency say I give you that description of there is a door down we go down the corridor with a start and the door on the right and then a wide chasm underneath that. Onwards and I'm dead. I couldn't see anything that the chasm was quite large
00:32:30
Speaker
What's a chasm? Do you mean chasm? I think that's a brick. It's a funny thing, Catherine. On the Sword Coast, it's pronounced chasm. It's a discourse thing. Wow! Okay, you're going to have to tell me about the way that language develops. This is going to be great. Oh, my book's going to be amazing. Please don't fill our DMs with the Sword Coast version of chasm.
00:32:57
Speaker
It's called the player trying to get himself out of a hole. Yes, but yes, we'll go for chasm, why not? As you continue to make your way further down into the mine, you come across that right hand turn, the air is getting thicker, the ground beneath you is rubble and dust. As this right turn comes up, it's not like the walls, just so you know, I've been etched out of the stone, there's no kind of brickwork, it's just a big old hole. And you can see very clearly still these wooden struts around the outside of the
00:33:26
Speaker
I tell the mind holding and supporting this mind up in the eventuality that it might collapse obviously as all minds have. You take this right turn and you can seem to feel a larger space off the distance so you still can't see even with the 60 feet that claw is offering. What you do start to notice though along your left side the left wall
00:33:47
Speaker
becomes flatter and more kind of chiseled and then actually starting to notice figures or attempts at statues that have been hewn out of the stone and still half built into almost like figures. Imagine like Han Solo in thingy. It can't be the cut of the knife. Yeah, kind of like half coming out of it. Not like ooh I'm playing with him trying to do statues
00:34:08
Speaker
of, say, Leopold, Sleepguard II, of other members of repute that these miners might have recognised in the unknown. But again, the figures are covered with a thick layer of sitten dust. You can't really make out many of the features. How stable is the floor that we're walking on? Because we're going quite down. It's stable. It's still nothing special. It's nothing really, really calm and controlled that you can probably make out, especially cast iron. You can make out the remains of some mine tracks, mine cart tracks that still would have travelled down even as far into the mine.
00:34:38
Speaker
How tall is the mind compared to Drago? High enough that you can, I'm imagining is four abreast and four up. So you would be able to get your sword above heads. That's what I was checking, thank you. I always say how tall is it in here? Can I swing a sword in my head? One day he's going to say yeah, your head's brushing the ceiling to get like an idea of
00:35:00
Speaker
rock changed. Are we in the area where metals would start to be mined or is it still very much like surface rock? If you look around you can't notice any of the metals that would be mineable but obviously also if it was mineable at this height they would mine it. So there's nothing really... So we're still close to the surface? Yeah you can notice a couple of really thin veins of some kind of silvery or blackish coloured material but they're so thin it would be pointless really to mine and cause the trouble so
00:35:30
Speaker
Yeah, nothing so far. Nothing so far. Okay. There was a doorway? There was. There was a door to your right. This is a wooden door. It looks rather mouldy. It looks rather
00:35:43
Speaker
kind of hang up as hinges slightly as you approach it on your right. This corridor is still four abreast, so you can still foot four people wide, and there is the small door in front of you as you approach it on your right. Does it look like it's going to make a noise if I touch it? I can't open it. Give us an investigation, or you can use a passive.
00:36:06
Speaker
If you look at it and as you inspect the hinges you can see this door doesn't seem to have moved in quite a while you can discern that it probably might make a noise when you push it. Okay I'd like to cast mending on the hinges and clamp it so that I can push it open. Certainly both hinges instantly change into a really lovely clean copper colour both sets of them and this wooden door seems to now be antithesis between these beautiful hinges and this disgusting door that seems to be hanging off
00:36:38
Speaker
Because I was told not to make lots of noise earlier so I was going to make it so they didn't squeep. As someone who has a long lifetime experience of opening doors quietly perhaps maybe I should. I'll fix it so it won't squeep but yeah you go go for it. I would like to use sleight of hand to try and open the door as quietly as possible.
00:37:03
Speaker
Good job you gave me guns. 5 plus 13, so 18. 18.
00:37:10
Speaker
You manage to, deftly, push the door open and you can feel something giving you just a hand from somewhere else that just tells you exactly where you're about to push this door. As you push it, the door does fall off its top set of hinges, but you are almost aware of this happening. I managed to hold it and just push the door gently back to reveal a very, very small room. This is probably big enough to fit three of you in it, any three of you, including Folly, actually. You've opened the door, what seems to have a store covered.
00:37:37
Speaker
And what you notice in here are stacks and stacks of picks, of small wheelbarrows, of spades, etc. But just off to the right you notice a small box, a wooden box with a thin film of dust upon it. Robin, what do you see in there?
00:37:51
Speaker
So we have not much here, though, Claude, there may be some bits that take your fancy. Not at all. Sorry, folly. But there's not much in here, though, you may see things that take your fancy folly for your rucksack. There is a box, though. Is there anything particularly special about the box? No, it's just a brown box. It's about 30 centimeters by 30 centimeters. It's sat next to where all the
00:38:16
Speaker
Pig actors are held up in sort of a small shelf on its own. Again, doesn't seem to have been touched in quite a while. Can you open it? Well, perhaps Folly of you would be able to... Do you sense any magic coming from this box before where it just seems a little out of place? Let me have a look. Can I do an arcana check on the box? Of course, you can have a look at it. I mean, it's a box, guys. Can't we just open it? Yeah! We want to be safe, don't we? Let's be safe and let's be silly.
00:38:44
Speaker
You strike me as a very sensible person, Drago. I don't know how to respond to you, Carson, I'll be honest. People just say that's nice, Carson, to me a lot. That's nice. Thanks.
00:38:58
Speaker
You're welcome. I love this relationship already. I love it. It's interesting. Coming at nine for an arcana check. Okay, so you look and you are actually, from looking at it, pretty certain that there is some kind of magical element coming off from this box. There's something about it that's just something stock magic-y. Right. Okay. There's certainly something I don't like coming from this box and I think we take it with us but not open it here inside the mine. It could cause untold
00:39:30
Speaker
but want us to take it with us. What if we leave it here and then come and get it on the way back? We might not have that opportunity. I'm going to put it in my rock sack anyway. And he just puts it in his rock sack. Oh my god, give it here. I'll open the damn box. No, please.
00:39:43
Speaker
What if it belongs to the demon horse? I would also be up for opening the box now. I can't stand to have it sat in your backpack for the whole time. Get the box out! Stock magic is very very dangerous. Are you sure? It could tremor the ground between us and trap us in the mine which is exactly what we don't watch. Are you sure? Are you really sorry? It just looks boxy to me. Are you familiar with
00:40:09
Speaker
The arcane art. Yes. Can you sense them? Can you sense the darkness coming from this object? Yes I do. I cast a fireball, you saw. Right, okay. But you also said that that girl went dead. Whatever. I'm actually in agreement with Folly. Perhaps there's a time point in this box, I don't think it's now. Think of it this way. When I was making my potions, I nearly blew everybody up.
00:40:34
Speaker
He should not be carrying a box if he blows people up. No, he's experiencing this stuff. I would rather much open this in an open area. I think that would be much wiser. What if you escape the room, we shut the door and you open it up in the room with the door shut? Okay, so we're keeping the box in the bag. Fair enough. Is there anywhere else we can go from here? Down into the mine? Let's go down. Okay, sorry.
00:41:00
Speaker
follow you puts this tosses this box back into your bag oh no of plenty you toss this thank you Darren for walking I toss this box into your rucksack because you did he throws things up and it's about as you do I listen sometimes so as you do that if you're doing that now it's always as it goes up everyone watching I want to catch it for me
00:41:27
Speaker
Excellent. Give me a athletics check. I didn't realize that he was doing that. So the way I'm seeing it is that Drago's just stood as it comes over. I might think that's what you do before he does. That is what he does. He chucks things behind them and the rucksack opens up and he goes in and then it chucks itself again. Okay, give us, what did we say? Acrobatics. Acrobatics is...
00:41:51
Speaker
Whatever has resulted, by the way, I'm going to use Bend Luck and just do a 1d4 reduction. Why? I want to get you to check. So I'm going to spend a couple of months. Is that mine? I do not want this box happening down here. Is it a cantrip? Is there a verbal splatter? No. So you're using Bend Luck and that's two sorcery points and I get to roll a d4 and then I can either... I'm sure we won't need those sorcery points. Can you also, yeah, you do that and can you then also after that roll a d20 from me please?
00:42:26
Speaker
that. Trago is not the most athletic. Yeah, we're a reduction of two, which unfortunately is not a lot. It's 18 and can you roll the D20 please? 18. Okay, thank you very much. You just fit.
00:42:39
Speaker
So, despite what you feel, Drago, is some kind of ulterior force trying to stop your claw from reaching and dragging and grabbing this box. You very easily get your claw upon it and you have the box now in your possession. Okay, I see what we've got here. And Drago just opens the box. And inside you see a single diamond. This is what you are scared about. And I reach in, pick the diamond out and I hold it up to your face. This, this, this.
00:43:06
Speaker
Castan, as he lifts it up, you do notice the diamond does have a slightly odd hue to it. You've seen some diamonds in your time, and actually, Helen, you would recognise the diamond kind as well. And this doesn't... Something looks a little different about it. I'm not sure what, but something. Can I... It looks... It looks... That's not a normal diamond. That doesn't look right to me. Can I have a look? Yes, let's have a look. Please?
00:43:31
Speaker
Which one of you wants to look? I'll hold it. It's dangerous. I'm sure it's not dangerous. It's a diamond. Can I stand and sort of hold it up? Closes one eye because that's what you've seen professionals do.
00:43:47
Speaker
There is nothing in your knowledge that would differentiate this in any way of any knowledge you have, but all you know is that it's different. Like, do you see the colours on the wall? Not princess. It's sort of... The colours are different. Where in am I now? I think you can call that by a proper title. Maybe it's the light constant. I don't know. Can I do an arcana check on the diamond? You can, yeah. This is whilst Helen has got the diamond in her hand. Yeah, sure. I've taken it over. Nineteen. Okay. There's no magic in the diamond.
00:44:16
Speaker
It's definitely different. We should look after this. I don't know. Hmm. Yes, I'm not sure if it's good or bad. Not normal. Well. But I think we'd possibly have wasted too much time on this. I totally agree. So we'll be back in that bag and we should just go. No, it probably takes the diamond and chucks that in the bag. Where is the box that Drago opened? Because he's still going to grab that and put that back in the bag as well. You can ask me. It's in my hand. Excuse me, Drago, could I have that box? Yes, it's a box. OK, let's carry on. OK.
00:44:46
Speaker
You need to note that down, because you're the party inventory man now. Good point. Oh yes, we have no longer the bag of holding. I know, the bag of that curse is coming. Don't you want this diamond? I mean, you used to have a bag for it. Well, I used to have a bag of holding, but it was stolen by someone. Was it really? Yeah, I'm afraid so. You'll have to tell us that story.
00:45:03
Speaker
No, we don't. He'd be over a fire one time, not in the deep dark dungeon of a mine. Yeah. Can I remind everyone that there was a creepy sound not created by any of us that we heard recently? Yes, I agree. And I think we should keep the singing to an absolute minimum of one chorus from now on. And not even that. Okay, okay. Wait, is there a particular... I've got a song about taking heads. Claude, Claude, Claude, just go. Take your big son and go.
00:45:33
Speaker
We're following. My big what? Light. Oh, I thought you meant something as a child. Do you have a child? I don't know. Let's go. I'll be continuing heading into the mine. Suddenly, the mine you're walking down, the single path corridor you're heading down, deeper and deeper, suddenly opens up and you can feel air
Encounter with a Dark Chasm
00:45:55
Speaker
around you. You can hear the sand of running water far up in the distance. And the space seems to have just almost
00:46:04
Speaker
in terms of the size and stature of it. As cordial hold your lights up, almost Gandalf-esque, you can't even see the ceiling of this area now. It's suddenly just exploded. You realise now all this must have been the epicentre of this mine in its early stages where they really went to town mining every resource they could possibly find here. This is a massive, massive space under the mountain. Whoa, that's amazing. Wow, wow, wow.
00:46:32
Speaker
I've got an idea. I like to think that you are actually doing that yourself. Yeah, there was no echo. Just to yourself. Chloe's going to reach to the floor and grab like a loose stone. Yep. Catch the light on the stone and just throw it into the big open space to sort of get like a feel of how high it is, how wide it is, what it's like on the way. Are you throwing it like? Ants or up?
00:47:01
Speaker
A good mid angle between those two lights there. I knew you were going to say that. Just into the space. How far can I throw it pretty much and what happens? As you throw it you can see a really clear, almost like meteor-esque dart as it flies out and doesn't seem to hit anything and bounce back. It just continues to go and go and go and go. But what you notice then as you've thrown this, you do see this white light just disappear off into the distance quite beautifully and quite silently and you hear it echoing back just in.
00:47:30
Speaker
it just as it hits something and rolls probably and just as silence returns as you all kind of follow that you see a pair of eyes just appear off and you're not really sure at this point how far away they are. Who has darkvision just out of curiosity? Oh my god all sorts of people. You get darkvision. You do, you're a gnome. Folly has it. Only up to a certain distance. So do we see, how far does this stone cast light?
00:47:55
Speaker
uh this wouldn't be attached to the mirrors this would maybe 20 foot of brightness 40 foot so do we see like this this this pool of light at the distance now he no it's it's disappeared oh wow you've got a good throat no you feel then that there's obviously a ridge or something and it always goes down he's throwing it quite a distance as if they're really into like roof supports or just the ceiling at any point it's just
00:48:17
Speaker
And more of black. More blackness and dark blackness, okay? So really giving you a sense of the size. Sure, sure, sure. Really big. But you do see a pair of eyes just kind of appear. You assume their eyes as they seem to be quite close together and you see them kind of move together off in the distance. You also notice another two pair, another pair. What color? Red. Does anybody else see that? Yes, yes, yes. That's all good. Shit.
00:48:45
Speaker
Most up! Robin pulls down his goggles. And upon that note, can I ask you all to roll the initiative, please? Woo-hoo! I'll be doing initiative. It looks like that's going to change. Did anyone get a 20 plus on the initiative? I did. So, Draggo, what did you get? I got 22. 22, probably that. 21. 21's a Draggo top with Robin close behind. 15 to 20? 15.
00:49:13
Speaker
18. So, 40's next. Followed by Claude. 10 to 15? 10 to 15? What did you get? Castanet. 10 from Castan. 5 to 10? 9. What did Talia get? That's a good question. I don't feel so bad when the DM forgets. I don't feel so bad. Well, I feel like we have to remind him sometimes.
00:49:46
Speaker
So we have our order now, lovely, thank you very much. These eyes are still quite a way up into the distance as you can see from the holographic map which we have drawn, sorry, the piers generates from the table because we have, you weren't here cases when we started this a long time ago, but obviously as you can see on the table we don't use mini figurines on a flat surface, we actually have a 3D holographic design, can you see it? Yeah I can see it, this is great. Star Trek stuff. I'm so happy that it now works in your house now.
00:50:13
Speaker
it does it didn't work because we were in yours and it was working great and then the wi-fi didn't the yeah connection didn't it didn't sync and there was
00:50:26
Speaker
Even Bluetooth. So we're here at the mouth of this huge open chasm as you look out over the distance. Are we also looking out over a chasm? You are looking over a chasm if you're from Eric. And you see these eyes just kind of twinkle off two sets of them at the moment off in the distance. At the moment. These are still, I don't know, drop that in there.
00:50:50
Speaker
These are still a little bit off in the distance. We're in Lusitivod and we'll run that just for now if you want to get yourselves doing anything. So, top of the round we'll go with Drago. You can see these eyes quite far off in the distance. What would you like to do? I see eyes far off into the distance. What do I want to do?
00:51:09
Speaker
Like how far? Okay, so I'm looking at the map. They're not, it is the eyes on the map. Now I see. Jesus Christ. They're not on the map. So we're talking north of a hundred. North of a hundred feet, yeah. Okay. So this is at the apex of your rock throw is probably your best guess as to when they can't beat it. Okay, I'm gonna walk forwards as far as I can do, just in a straight line. So that's 40 feet per movement.
00:51:41
Speaker
that echoes out. And that's it. Another set of eyes appears as three sets of eyes looking out at you now. Oh. Oh. Oh.
00:51:51
Speaker
That's probably your turn. Yep. Tali is going to stay exactly where she is and just peek round Robin's shoulder and stand very cautiously looking out, trying to clearly look through the darkness and do nothing. Robin, your turn. I see Drago and Robin doesn't like what's going on. Even though I can shoot to 300 feet, I'm assuming because of darkness to do that is going to be incredible.
00:52:13
Speaker
Okay, what Robin will do is he'll snap his fingers, his eyes will roll back and I will walk into Nura and Nura will dash 120 feet at height in that direction to see if I can get a good start on what they are. How high is she flying? She turns into detail.
00:52:28
Speaker
I mean, so Nira's going to fly quite high to run the risk of maybe potentially. I mean, if she does die, I can recast her. And she's going to fly straight over Drago and continue 120 feet into the challenge. She has 60 feet of flight movement, so I've dashed with her. So that's 120 feet, and I'm just seeing what I've picked out. Can she sit me down? She can't, but she has advantage on perception rolls that rely sight to the offsets.
00:53:03
Speaker
As Nura flies off, this quite pristine looking bird flies off and... Does she glow at all? I'm thinking of her glowing a bit. No, she's just a regular bird. As the whole takes off you can feel the hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof hoof
00:53:22
Speaker
Next is rather odd, none of you have really ever seen anything like it before.
Battle with Fiery Skeletal Creatures
00:53:26
Speaker
You see an ember glow appear from the ground beneath where she is flying.
00:53:35
Speaker
You suddenly hear this mini explosion, and the ground seems to rumble. All of a sudden, next to Nura in the air, another explosion appears. And you see, right there, kind of in the air, this almost skeletal fire creature in the air. Doesn't need to have a day in my life. It just takes a swim with one massive hand across Nura. She disappears from vision, before, again, another mini explosion. An explosion appears.
00:54:05
Speaker
Off to the left of where Drago has entered into the middle of the chasm, and you just see this creature stood in front of you, it seems to have this kind of metal, almost looks like it's melting, belt on. This creature seems to literally be a kind of demonic skeleton with fire pouring out, almost slow motion out of every possible orifice out of its neck, out of its stomach.
00:54:26
Speaker
where there's missing areas out of the arms, long claw hands and fire coming out of the mouth and the eye sockets and just bursting from the top of the skull as well. But the control is not making much in terms of noise. There's a sound of loads of fire crackling. You can just see it seems kind of coming out of every part of it. So nobody knows but a little bit of we just came back after.
00:54:47
Speaker
constitution saving throw for that sure let's give us a constitution saving throw we can still come out anytime Constitution saving throw I got 12
00:55:02
Speaker
Okay, just a little bit. Yeah. Just a little bit. Not enough to stain, but enough that you might notice. Oh yeah, yeah. He knows we've come out. Yeah, everyone does. But I think it was relevant at that point, otherwise it loses all effect when I wait till later. Absolutely. This creature just appeared and you're only willing to recast to get out. She's been destroyed. And she's sent back to the faith lane. Yep. Folly, your turn. You just see this creature just almost explode
00:55:25
Speaker
on to the battlefield, so to speak, and you see almost, you recognise it as almost a form of blink. This seems to be a really, uh, demonic form of blink that seems to tap into something very odd that you've ever really experienced before. And you would have just heard as well, literally over your shoulder, Robin, walk back into the room and say the word fire. Da da da, gave you fire. What, what are you gonna do? Um, you're gonna move forward.
00:55:52
Speaker
It's out of the mouth of the safety of that and into the actual chasm. Out into the actual chasm. You're an arith resident. You say chasm. There's only two coasting left. Drago says chasm. You're going to move forward. It's still a good 25 feet behind Drago.
00:56:12
Speaker
Uh, at this point. Um, kind of wish me with the dragon. I don't think my fire might be that much good here anymore, dragon. As a sign of caution, uh, Folly is going to cast Donate Beast.
00:56:27
Speaker
on whatever this kind of creature is. That's a sign of caution for you? Damn, Daniel, what? Can you give me the breakdown of what you can dominate? Is it just of the beast? Of the beast? You attempt to beguile a beast that you can see within rape and choose a beast, not a monster. I read this in Fifty Shades of Grey.
00:56:50
Speaker
I'm seeing if I can, indeed. You can indeed roll for it. Yeah, do you need to roll anything for it? Um, wisdom saving throw. Okay, it passes. Okay, there we go. Totally passes. You get the distinct feeling that you didn't even get kind of any kind of metaphorical claws into this creature at all. You get the feeling that this might not be a beast. Yep, that's fine.
00:57:12
Speaker
That's the end of your turn, Folly, thank you very much, Claude. Claude is going to take a couple steps into the room.
00:57:24
Speaker
and in the direction of the Nasty, and say in, stop there please. No, no, that's too far. You're not that far. So you stood next to Folly. I stood next to Folly, sort of still have most of the party behind me, Jago and my eyesight. I'm gonna say both in, no, I'm just gonna say in infernal, who are mine, demon, horsey.
00:57:56
Speaker
And then my hands are gonna like go from being in a really aggressive stance to like a prayer stance and I'm gonna cast blessed on the entire party. Yay! Everyone is blessed. What level? Let's have fourth level to get all six of them. So all of you get a d4 to roll with any d20. Any d20 roll you roll, you also roll the d4 as well and add that onto it, okay? I just don't want half, is that? No, no, no, until I get fucked. Is it concentration? Yeah.
00:58:23
Speaker
Yep, my last time, my turn. Okay, thank you very much. Karstan, you've just weed yourself a little bit. Karstan, a little bit of weed's come out, he's like, okay, and turn that time off. He's like, not like last time, probably like last time. Did you say that out loud? No, no, in his head. So Karstan's actually going to pull out his set of pan pipes.
00:58:47
Speaker
and he's going to start playing a little tune but I need to move so that Drago is 30 feet away from me and how much of the rest of the party can I get? Is anyone within 30 feet? Everyone around them sort of you feel his little tune sort of picks you up a little bit so I've cast, while I perform
00:59:11
Speaker
I'm casting Counter Charm and everyone gets advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed. Okay, so if you remember that, just let them know when that comes back. What of interest? What does the sun sound like?
00:59:27
Speaker
Tyler tries to start one thing along, but can't find the brilliant perfect opportunity for you to have used our opening theme. Just saying. No, that's what I'm thinking of. All of a sudden you feel, even though you don't know why, like the way that we're playing it or whatever, but it's stirring something inside of you that will aid you against being charmed or frightened.
00:59:51
Speaker
Lovely. You only use 10 feet of movement if you want to. No, it's got to be within 30 feet as well. I forgot to stay and continue. Well it says, during that time you and any friendly creatures within 30 feet. So you've got to keep playing. So I play for my, basically I play until my next turn. Okay, brilliant.
01:00:08
Speaker
Thank you very much, Carson. Lovely. I love having some pan-flute. Yeah, it sounded like Narnia. Did a little bit, didn't it? Yeah, that was some tumblers. Yeah, I loved that. It was. So, speaking, as you were speaking, it's your turn, Helena. What would you like to do? You find yourself in the mouth. You hear the music coming from Carson, this person you know. You see a dragonborn striding off into the distance, a small gnome.
01:00:29
Speaker
tries to cast something at this weird, fine creature that's just appeared looking very dominant. You see nothing like this even at your training and obsidian. Nothing like this at all. I think Helen is feeling pretty frustrated, especially with the palm pipes going on behind her. But she can't, because she's got her flails, she can't necessarily get to this.
01:00:50
Speaker
because it's in the air, right? No, it's on the ground. No, it's now on the ground. Well then she's going to take a run up. Are you going for it? Yeah. She's got 30 feet, so...
01:01:04
Speaker
Yeah, she'll go, she'll do the full 30. Okay, lovely, put you there. Excellent, so you've still got that, you've still got the effects of, you can still hit the panpipes in your head as a matter of fact. Yeah, that's right. But they stir something within you. It's a nice, full tone, anything that tries to hit power in there is a disadvantage. Damn you, nice panpipes!
01:01:23
Speaker
as this is happening you do off in the distance hear another small explosion go off and suddenly off to the right of you you notice another one of these creatures appear it looks very very similar to the one previously except fire seems to come out at certain different points you can tell them apart but that's about it this is far off in the distance probably about 50 or 60 feet diagonally right of Drago's position so no one's really in that area at the moment and the second one
01:01:52
Speaker
appears against the wall closest to us on the far left, so actually meaning that he's behind Helena's charge towards the first spectre, okay? These things seem to be appearing almost out of nowhere pretty much, okay? So that's the end of their term. Top of the round, Drago, your turn, what were you about to do? Well, fuck that
01:02:21
Speaker
there. Easy. Jago's come to rage and charge to the furthest one in the right corner and as he's charging and raging he withdraws Dengon's deception, brings it over his head and just aims to slash down as hard as he can. As you go to slash down the creature is going to use a reaction
01:02:51
Speaker
a thin film of ash and then also reappears about 60 feet away from you, nearest actually just folly but quite some distance away from you to the right of where we currently are against the rest of the group and he just kind of slowly turns to kind of face you as the flames seem to slowly burn almost around us.
01:03:15
Speaker
As I charged, my sword came swinging down into the ground. Draghi's just going to kind of look back at where the creature went. Sword still in the ground. And narrow his eyes at the asshole. Just planning ahead so I can visualize my head. So obviously this is a very big dark room. Are these things therefore giving off light? Yes. So what is it? Is it 30 feet of bright and then 30 feet of dim? These creatures, yes. So actually pretty much this area of the castle
01:03:44
Speaker
is a little bit more well lit. So those of you without darkvision can actually see a little bit better around here. If you're quite far away and you try and do a skill challenge or you try to do some kind of attack it'll probably be a disadvantage unless you're near Claude. So it's kind of near Claude or near these creatures. We're talking about 60 feet so actually
01:04:04
Speaker
pretty much we're pretty much covered for light okay so just bear in mind if you start killing them off if you start killing them off that you might be in patches of darkness and just be aware of that because i'll try and keep up with that as well drago anything else you want to do mate move as close as possible to him so i've used i've burnt an action i've got five feet left so i'm just gonna hit this closer
01:04:27
Speaker
Tyler's going to move up to the mouth of the entrance and see this creature just kind of appear in a small explosion and kind of look back to Robin and go, what the fuck do we do? And that's all she's going to do. Robin, it's your turn. What do I have to do? OK, Robin hears Tyler say that what Robin will do is he will step to the preface here.
01:04:51
Speaker
Taking a look at what he sees, where are these creatures looking at the minute? That one's looking at Drago. You can see both, well actually you can see where the eyes are looking at. The one closest to you in Kastan, off to your extreme left nearest the wall, nearest you, who's only about 30 feet away from you, is looking directly at Kastan. The one that Helena is currently charging towards, the creature's looking back at Helena. Okay, well now the other one's looking at Drago. Absolutely. I will take the hide action then, to get through there.
01:05:24
Speaker
Yep. And do you want me to do a style for that? Don't pay attention to you so I'm going to imagine you pass it. I will then, I will, I come round the corner. Come round the corner. Sorry. I come up to the side of the cage. Come up to what? I look round the corner.
01:05:39
Speaker
And I see a flame creature off to my left. Robin then ducks back round the corner, takes out a silver arrow, peered back round, and instantaneously shoots at the one that is most downstage left against a cliff wall. Downstage left eye. If you have a cool background, thank you very much. But before you get a chance to roll it, it does look very similar. So you fire this arrow, it doesn't matter what you roll, it's going to use its reaction here and do something similar to, as you've just seen happen over to Drago.
01:06:06
Speaker
the small explosion disappears and just appears behind you in and amongst this ring of our kind of spell cast is there and it's still staring now at you okay now what about just one of your actions i know you forget a second you get a second attack then yes i do you can use your second attack against him okay i will spin then and immediately see this thing staring at me and what i will do is is i
01:06:34
Speaker
Roll the hit, please. I can't change weapons mid-turn. So that is a 20 knot natural to hit. That hits. If you said that doesn't hit, I'd be like... Could it make, please, a DC-17 strength saving throw? Passes. Okay, it's the sneak attack and no-no, I'm guessing. Unfortunately, it is a no-no, that's fine. I don't need the DC-X though.
01:06:57
Speaker
six points of piercing damage, which is magical, so good at silvered. And on top of that, one point of force damage. So thank you very much. It takes this arrow into the shoulder. It doesn't seem to move much at the arrow. Okay. I think what I will do here is the sensible thing. Will you let me change weapons on our action surge? You'll take an action, I'd say. So if your action surge did, it would be your action.
01:07:23
Speaker
Normally I treat it as if it's done out of combat, it's okay. Bit of food kind of.
01:07:32
Speaker
So what I will do then is, if I think this thing is looking at me now, no, I would rather it stay its potential on me than potentially hurt Talia at this stage. So I'll stay there. Okay, thank you very much. Robin, Folly, you sense the presence of a, you feel the heat on your back actually, and you hear this small explosion as you realise, fuck, this will mind you. What do you want to do?
01:07:57
Speaker
Sorry, and there's also one to your right about 33. Folly is going to be thinking, oh bugger, oh shit. And he's basically gonna cast Blink on himself and try and get himself the hell out of there.
01:08:10
Speaker
Which he does not. Oh, no. Oh, it's only a minute or so, I have to say, then. How does it fail to have curiosity what happens to make it fail? I like to think he kind of, well, falling fizzled back, literally fizzles in and out of the ethereal planes a little bit, but then he just looks around and he's still in the same kind of dark and cowardant of thinking. Yeah.
01:08:28
Speaker
Oh, dear. I love that. Thanks very much. He's stuck there, unfortunately, on the material plane. Claude, your turn. What would you like to do? So... Would I have seen the two... the two that have already sort of had an attack attempt and then warped and, like... Yes. No, he doesn't seem to be working. Yes.
01:08:51
Speaker
that you would have heard an arrow hit in the creature. Okay, okay. I think Claude is going to just, he's just gonna see the one that's closest to Helena that's sort of threatening the way he's facing at the moment and just unleash a sacred flame at the base of this twisted fucker. Okay. Now he needs to make a he or she or it or whatever it persuades. He needs to take a Dex saving throw, please. Dex 17.
01:09:22
Speaker
21. Sorry, I'm rolling off an absolute champion so far for these guys. So he passes. So this sacred flame, how does it miss? So this light erupts from underneath the figure and the figure just manages to zip out of the center of the holy light. Balls. Okay. Any movement? Yes. I will then move in the direction of Drago
01:09:52
Speaker
There. I cannot keep moving towards Drago there. Lovely, thank you very much for that. Karstan, it's your turn.
Karstan's Failed Spell and Chaos
01:09:59
Speaker
These creatures seem to be moving around this base quicker than almost a demonic ace. What do you want to do? Oh man, Ross the nut. Karstan suddenly feeling this heat behind him, stops playing, spits around.
01:10:12
Speaker
pulls out a feather and goes, coochie coochie coochie coo! And I'm gonna cast Tash's hideous laughter on that one. That's right. I love all of that. That was amazing. Could it make a DC 17 wisdom saving throw please? You can see that. That's an 18 plus 20. Plus 2, 20. So this creatures, the feather as you, coochie coochie coochie go out, a single finger just comes out, touch the end of it and just turns into Tash.
01:10:40
Speaker
We're in trouble, guys. Shit. The DM's looking too gleeful at himself. He's like, I have planned this. Just rolling really well, guys. Looks like Lord Zed from Power Rangers right now. He's got a real good plan. Karstan will then back away, and he will back towards Helena.
01:11:04
Speaker
Got a 35 movement. Bitch. Yeah, that'll do. That'll do. It's right behind the back. Princess! Princess! Things are getting a bit iffy. There's some serious Jaskier, uh, Geralt Arabia vibes with the, with this duo. There is, I love it. I love everything about it. I like that you can hear Karsten. You can only hear the panpipes. Lucky you. You can now hear Karsten's voice. Very, very close. I'm lucky. Princess! Princess! Things are getting a bit iffy.
01:11:32
Speaker
as you start to approach this. Thank you. I gathered and I can hear his footsteps running behind me or tottering behind me anyway. Tottering works. I'm going to use the rest of my movement to 30 feet so don't leave me. It's 20 feet ahead until I hit the guy or whoever it is and I'm going to take my flails. Can I make an attack?
Helena's Powerful Attack
01:11:56
Speaker
You can't unfortunately because it has a reaction and as you swing down
01:12:03
Speaker
Ah, he's gonna disappear and move directly behind you now. You do have a ability to use a bonus action for your other flail on your other hand. I'll go in for that second flail. Okay, roll to hip please. And add a d4. Take a d4 as well.
01:12:18
Speaker
No one's needed a 20 roll yet. None natural 20. He looks so upset that I only rolled a 20. Forget you've got a champion in your ranks now guys. And that hits! So do you want to roll damage for that? Four of your flails. Fourteen. Fourteen points of damage and these are magical flails as well. As you're a dual wielder can you make an offhand attack as well? Yes she can. Yeah 26. Yep look at that hit. Do you want to roll damage?
01:12:49
Speaker
Thank you very much lovely so we just see this
01:12:56
Speaker
Armoured person charge off into this flame and just the first swing for who disappears behind it That didn't even bother you as almost as it kind of swung over your neck this flail Smashing the head and then you're off hand your left hand comes swinging around at the leg looking at some of it each of these hits seems to bring with it some kind of molten lava seems to Kind of pull off this creature each time you hit it some really nice damage there. Thank you very much
01:13:20
Speaker
No, no, everything's fine. So you've taken some hell of damage at this creature and you realise now that these are indeed fallible. You can hit them and it's just that first hit sometimes will not work. Because you've all got a second then and a third. It is indeed. It's these creatures turn. Firstly...
01:13:36
Speaker
The creature that's in the midst of Robin, Tally, and... Folly? Thank you, Folly. Thank you, Folly. He's just still looking directly at Robin. The creature is going to attempt to hit you. One of these hands, as it kind of swings round to hit down on you. As it lifts around, it starts to grow in size and flame. You can feel the heat coming off it as it comes towards you. He's going to... This creature's going to rather 17 to hit. I don't know how it's... Okay.
01:14:05
Speaker
So you take... Do you have any immunities to anything or resistances? Okay, so just making sure I gave you the right kind of damage. So you get 11 points of damage. Some of that is bludgeoning, some of it is fire damage. Okay. And that's it's turn, that's all it's going to do, it's going to take the swing at you. The one closest to Helena is going to do something similar and take a swing at you. That is a...
01:14:29
Speaker
As it does it, it casts and turns around and goes, oi, flamey! And I'm going to use cutting words on it. And I'm going to reduce your dice roll by 1v10. Okay. And this is the reaction, isn't it? Yes. Reduce your score, whatever you roll by 5. So it rolled in minus 3, does that hit your armor class?
01:14:50
Speaker
I have to declare it before I know the role, so that's why I just did it. Thank you, I do appreciate it. So, Ghost Digger swing back. As you say that, its head starts to turn, it just kind of swings its arm round into nothingness, and Helladir you manage to quickly duck just before anything happens. Almost like it partially
Appearance of a Larger Threat
01:15:08
Speaker
distracts the creature, partially distracts you as well actually. You're like, what did you just fucking call me?
01:15:13
Speaker
But it manages to actually escape the damage in that time, so that creature has Mist. The third one that's closest towards their Claude and Drago is going to make a beeline directly for Claude and take a swing directly at you. That is a 17 against your armor class. Mist is! Okay, so that's its turn. It's a swing and makes no damage. I only want to take a round, excellent.
01:15:38
Speaker
and another one of these creatures seems to just erupt from the air itself. Disturbingly though, you do hear and echo a crack of the same kind of explosion happen from behind you. This one seems to be slightly bigger than some of the others you've heard. Robin and Folly.
01:15:56
Speaker
As you turn around, there is a larger version of this creature standing directly over Tali, one hand stretching out. She's unaware of this, reaching out for her head. And as this hand reaches out, her face starts to lift towards you, Robin, as she realises what's about to happen.
