Ipswich vs Nottingham Forest Preview

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome back to another edition of the Daily Ipswich here on the Global Sports Podcast Network. My name is Tom Crack and on today's show we are going to be looking ahead to Town's game tomorrow against some would say this season's surprise high flyers in the form in the form of Nottingham Forest. To help me do that I'm delighted to say I'm joined by Mr James Bennett once again. How are you doing mate?
00:00:30
James
Yeah, good. Thank you, mate. it's good ah It's good to be back. I feel like I've missed i've missed a few. So it's been there it's been good to listening listen to you guys. So thank you very much for that. and but ah Yeah, Yeah, very happy to be back.
00:00:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
As are we. Well, like you said, you you've been away for a few days or so. So I know the dust has settled on town's 1-1 draw against United over the weekend, but just a quick thoughts on how we fared and the result in general.

Ipswich's Recent Draw Against Man United

00:00:52
James
I mean, take the point. Great point. Loved it, to be honest. cause they I'm sure as, as we both know, obviously we both live in Manchester anyway, and I, I live very close to to Old Trafford.
00:01:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:01:03
James
So being, being in and around all the United fans over the weekend was brilliant to be honest, because I mean, for one, night they were all, they all seem pretty happy that, you know, they all seem pretty happy that, you know, that we're back anyway.
00:01:19
James
So it's nice, nice for them to play us again. they They were happy with the trip down to Port Monroe again, which, you know, is always a lovely thing to hear. but the game itself, the first, for honestly, first half stick me neck out and well, I don't even think it's a factor of sticking me neck out.
00:01:34
James
I'm sure most of us feel the same. I feel we should have been leading. We should have been winning that as we went into our time. I do believe that second half fair enough, they controlled more of the game, more of the possession, but nothing happened.
00:01:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:01:47
James
It was boring half. And, uh, again, that's a, that's a massive positive though, because we've held them to a point. Because we do have to say at this, we still have to say, we obviously, we love Ipswich, but it is Man United, they've come to our place. in In the grand scheme of things, we've held them to the point which is brilliant.

Ed Sheeran's Broadcast Mishap

00:02:09
James
You know, Man United have come to Portland Road, we've got the draw, we love that. Oh Nana though, very annoyingly, has really upped his game this season, and he had a hell of a performance against us, and he's ah he's kept them in the game. So that's annoying, but
00:02:24
James
Overall, brilliant. Just brilliant to see. And to top it off as well, the goal itself, fair enough, slight little deflection, but yeah, slight deflection.
00:02:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Slight deflection, yeah.
00:02:34
James
We'll take that into account, but Hutchinson, great game, great player, great goal. Just brilliant, mate. Hell of a Sunday.
00:02:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he thoroughly deserved that goal we were saying earlier in the week, how, you know, it's been coming a long time and he finally got it. One of the things after the game, which I think Robin and Richard did touch on on Tuesday's show earlier this week, was that strange moment between Ed Sheeran and the Sky Sports crew enamma and Amr was getting his first interview on TV there. And Sheeran's since come out saying that, you know, he didn't know that it was on air and he's just saying hello to Jamie Redknapp, who I guess they're friends in their sort of weird celebrity world and posts,
00:03:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Weird scenario, he did go on social media saying, hey, sorry guys, didn't realize.

Liam Delappe: The Next Harry Kane?

00:03:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Amram has since been asked his opinion on the matter because he, on Wednesday at time recording, we are recording sort of Wednesday as well ahead of United's game in the European League on Thursday.
00:03:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
So he was asked in a press conference prior to that game saying, what did you make of all that? And he was just saying, I kind of blew it off saying, yeah, it is what it is.
00:03:28
James
Hmm.
00:03:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't worry. But I think he got him the United Good Books by saying, I was next to a real star anyway, in the form of Roy Keane, which, you know, A lot of people like Keene anyway, the matter of a club, and he's obviously put himself in the United fans' good books by praising a legend, which is a good thing to do when you just start a club.
00:03:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, that's United news. Let's move back to town. One of the things that came out of it, um just thought it was a funny thing over the weekend. and One of the things that came out of town's draw at Old Trafford was the high praise once again for our number nine, Liam Delappe.
00:03:49
James
yeah That's great.
00:03:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Danny Murphy on match for day two came out of a high praise again for him, which, you know, I'll read out, I kind of paraphrase the quote and what he said here about, Liam Dallat post 1-1 draw, saying like I've seen him a lot this season and I'd probably go as far as to say that for me, he's the obvious long-term successor to Harry Kane.

The Risks of Overhyping Young Talent

00:04:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he's the best young English striker out there. I know he's got a bit to learn and wisdom comes with experience and game time in this league, but he's got all the attributes to be a top international player. you know Looking at the England squad these days, and yeah, Harry Kane is still fantastic, just banging him in for buying week after week. He got hat-trick against Alsberg last week as well and he's still in great form.
00:04:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, father time catches up for us all and look at England strikers after that, who are currently in the squad. They're on the north side of twenties as well, in the form of Watkins and Solanke. Like, so they may be short-term success as Harry Kane, but long-term, could Liam Delappe be that answer?
00:04:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because, you know, so far, so, so far this season, he's put performances that will suggest that. And if you look at the rest of the young England strikers around there, who else is there at this moment in the time?
00:04:57
James
Yeah.
00:04:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
But thoughts on Murphy's high praise of Delappe there, James?
00:05:03
James
Look, it's it's a tough one because I absolutely agree with him, of course I do. And maybe there's a little bias in there, of course there is. I mean, because he's he's been unbelievable, as as there should be, absolutely.
00:05:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
as they should be.
00:05:14
James
and Because he has been unbelievable. and He's only 21 and he's he so he looks so good. He really does. And I do agree with him. He could be he could be the long term successor to Harry Kane. But the one thing I will say is what I don't want to happen is the classic English media, English football punditry,
00:05:37
James
getting ahead of themselves, bigging up the players too much, putting too way too much pressure on, because we've seen it all before. but you know we have We've seen it all before with with like papers and journalism and you know all the journalists coming out and saying you know England teams of the future, who they think it's going to be.
00:05:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:05:54
James
And it's steves young it was these young players. Remember, I mean, for example, James Vaughan, do you remember him when he was at Everton, Scott? du the no fat Well, he he's got the he was the youngest player to score a Premier League goal.
00:06:04
James
He was at Everton. He looked good. look good and nothing absolutely nothing became of him many like so many places has happened to and I don't want that to happen to Liam the lap obviously so I don't I wouldn't say right now that he's the definite player to to take over as Harry Kane because you you don't know what's going to happen we don't know who's you know who's in the academies right now as well there's there's plenty of plays knocking about so I think to to say it now is the classic thing, like I say, of maybe too much pressure.

Nottingham Forest's Surprising Season

00:06:37
James
But for, for saying right now, yes, ah ah he could be, he just needs to keep his head down, keep doing what he's doing. And, uh, yeah, keep playing for Ipswich as well.
00:06:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a big one, isn't it? But as Alan Shearer said in the summer about pressure, pressure is for tires.
00:06:52
James
That's the big science.
00:06:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah. But yeah, it's got going from your your analogy there, James. You bang on. There's a lot of players for England, like, you know, look at the likes, and he's obviously playing in the prem still, albeit on and off.
00:07:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
But like like to Jayden Sancho with Dortmund a few years ago, Talted is one of the best players.
00:07:09
James
yeah
00:07:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
in the world at that point in his age category and in general as well. And then they moved to United one for one reason or or another just kind of dampen this form and there's been sparks here at Chelsea. But you know, even if he has a good game at Chelsea, he's still not the player that many thought he could have been a few years ago. And sometimes that pressure gets to the big thing for Dilap as well if you know if he is the let's say successor to Harry Kane they're massive shoes to fill regardless because he's Kane's been fantastic for England like even if he does half the amount of goals for if Dilap gets say 40 goals or 30 goals for England in his career that's still very far of Harry Kane's amount so it's it's big big shoes to fill regardless but you know
00:07:35
James
Oh. well
00:07:49
James
yeah
00:07:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hopefully, he can get a I think if if the season goes on as it was on as it does, obviously, I've got a break now until March, I believe he should be able to get a call. It's a long time until a number international tournament.
00:08:06
James
I think so.
00:08:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
As long as he stays fit, which is the most important thing. Yeah.
00:08:09
James
Yeah, I think so. And in in fairness, like we said, the key word for me anyway is successor. It's not like he's I think if people start thinking that he's going to be as good as Harry Kane, we've already lost.
00:08:20
James
That's that's pointless because Harry Kane's ridiculous. He's been ridiculous.
00:08:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:25
James
Will Delapp reach them heights? I'll say no. Probably not. Hopefully, yeah. But probably not. A good successor? Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
00:08:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fantastic point. We're going to take our first break now. When we come back, we're going to look ahead to town's game at Forest this weekend. We'll take a deeper dive as well into our opponents at the city grounds. So we'll see you guys in a sec.
00:09:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we are back here. I'm a daily up switch. Like I said, looking ahead to town's game tomorrow against Nottingham forest. Another big one in the Premier League as they all proven to be. James Nottingham forest, but a great start. I know they've kind of faltered in the last two games.
00:09:19
James
Yeah.
00:09:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Difficult losses against the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle. No shame in losing those obviously, but they sit seventh in the league at one point. They were third as well. Early days as a season went on, but maybe they're starting to falter a bit slightly, but fantastic start for them, isn't it?
00:09:35
James
Hell of a start. No, one I don't think anyone's seen, seen this one really, to be honest. I think we all called it at a start that Nuno is probably not going to do a very good job, but
00:09:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:09:46
James
He smashed it. He's absolutely smashed it. And to get Chris Wood playing like he's playing. I didn't, I didn't see that coming at all.
00:09:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:55
James
I'm sure forest fans didn't see that. Cause I mean, I think we spoke about Chris Wood on the podcast before anyway. I mean, I love players like Chris Wood. He's, he's a classic, he's a big center forward.
00:10:06
James
He's strong. Do you know what I mean? He's, he's good. I love, I love, I love him, but yeah, I didn't think he'd have to start that he's had. And, uh, Yeah, I mean, credit where credit's due, absolutely fair play to them.
00:10:17
James
But um it's not good. It won't carry on, obviously. It's not gonna, I mean, I've seen already, there was a couple of people that I work with who had said, ah do you you reckon it could become a Leicester?
00:10:28
James
No, no, I don't shut that down straight away. Of course not.
00:10:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:10:31
James
that's ah That's a ridiculous statement. But i fair play to them. They'll stay up. They'll absolutely stay up. They'll air they'll probably get mid-table this year, to be honest, because they also do play some very nice stuff.
00:10:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:10:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:10:42
James
So

Ipswich's Strategy Against Forest

00:10:42
James
obviously against the bigger teams, like you say, they've just, they've just lost to Arsenal and Newcastle. There's no shame in that.
00:10:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:10:48
James
Fair enough.
00:10:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, absolutely.
00:10:49
James
yeah.
00:10:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
You touched on in there. Sorry, sorry to interrupt you there.
00:10:51
James
Yeah.
00:10:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
You touched on the manager there, Nuno Espirito Santo, you know, he came into the club.
00:10:52
James
hey
00:10:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
I believe it's a seasonal, like like was it the top of last season?
00:11:00
James
yeah yeah
00:11:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, because he had a ah ah year spell in Saudi and then randomly at Spurs, which no one really saw coming.
00:11:07
James
Hmm.
00:11:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Like, thoughts on him as a boss, like, maybe not necessarily playing style, but just to, I'd say, you know, come into a club where, you know, last season they had a really bad start and he and he kind of turned things around. It's kind of inspiring to see from our perspective right now as well.
00:11:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not to have a bad start, but, you know, from where we are to where they finished.
00:11:22
James
Yeah.
00:11:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, just just just just your thoughts in general. You know, I think maybe not at the level we should be at.
00:11:26
James
Yeah. I think, well, I think that's, my thinking towards Nuno at the minute is, I think he's, this is clearly seems to be his level right now because, for me anyway, because obviously he did a hell of a job at Wolves and obviously took over them when, yeah, we took over them when, well it was a championship I think, wasn't it?
00:11:51
James
And obviously had an unbelievable season, the championship and then first season up finished seventh. That's unbelievable. Absolutely incredible stuff. Get him into Europe and you know, wolves are now a, they're now an established Premier League side for now.
00:11:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:12:05
James
feel but now they but yeah But obviously he turned them into that again.
00:12:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
That goal difference of us, yeah.
00:12:12
James
So brilliant. He's then, did he go spares first?
00:12:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, uh, yes.
00:12:17
James
Yeah, he went spares first.
00:12:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:12:18
James
Big club. Deserved as well, he got the move. I'm not sure if Spurs wanted him, but the job he did at Wolves, he deserved the big move.
00:12:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:12:27
James
Didn't go to plan, obviously. He's then got the big money move to Saudi. Not worked out again, but again, for me, that's it's probably another big job because of the money involved. And obviously the whole thing that's going on on over at Saudi to get get football up there and everything.
00:12:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:12:43
James
Didn't work out again. He's come to Forest, who for me, are probably in the same bracket now as, you know, as a Wolves kind of team. And he's smashing it again. So I think he, I think this is him. These, these kind of teams where he's going to, I don't know, do better than expected, I think. And he's, he's doing it again at Forest. So good luck to him. I think I like Forest anyway. They're all right. Not this weekend though.
00:13:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, they're a proper club, aren't they? Especially with the the history of the European Cups and the Brian Clough era as well.
00:13:15
James
Yeah. right
00:13:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
like it's It's very much a team who, when they went when it came up a a few years ago or so, like people thought they should be in the Premier League given their pedigree compared to, let's say, some of the other teams who are there or have been there in recent years, Norwich.
00:13:30
James
Absolutely.
00:13:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
But looking ahead, Yeah, yeah, absolutely. But you know, like you said, the way you spoke about the manager varies, you know, sort of finding his level and also improving upon it than some might expect not to be where they are. I think the the squad of players he's assembled have that sort of ethos as well. You look at the likes of Hudson Adoy and who both struggled to get in the Chelsea team injuries or just lack of game time. James Ward-Prowse, who was at West Ham after Southampton went down. But, you know, that didn't really work out. So he's here now as well. And Anthony Langer from United as well. Three players there came from, you know,
00:14:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's say on paper, bigger clubs, one of them, you know, I'd say for us, my sound may be equal in terms of stature, but these guys have all come into the chip on their shoulder as has the manager.
00:14:07
James
Yeah. Yeah.
00:14:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think they've all kind of gelled in that regard. and You know, add Chris, put into that mix as well. It's a good, good mix of players, isn't it?
00:14:18
James
Absolutely. Yeah, it really is, to be honest. And I was surprised at the beginning of the season when they got Proust, well, Proust on loan.
00:14:25
James
I think it's best time to let him go on loan, to be honest, or let him go in general. cause He gives you so much. He really does. and yeah I think think it's good to see that Forrest are obviously lapping it up. He's had a pretty decent season. Yates looks good as well. I like the look of Ryan Yates. He looks a really good player. show Genuinely, best of luck to him. I like Forrest. They've gelled well together, like you say. They've made some good sign. There's Hudson and Dye.
00:14:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good move.
00:14:54
James
good player, a langer, very good player.
00:14:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:14:57
James
So yeah, I think they're going to have a good year, to be honest.
00:14:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very much so. If you look at the home form recently as we head into tomorrow's game, they're a bit up and down. They've lost two and one, two of their last four. and One of the losses was against Fulham, a team we drew of at home, obviously a different point for the season. that I think they were found their feet a few weeks after playing us. But, you know, it shows that we can potentially get a point or or maybe win against a team like this, considering the quality of position that we've got points against as well. And, you know, I think if you looked at recent and performances as well from town, we are very much seems to be playing ever so slightly better away from home. We're going to take our final break. And when we come back, we're going to discuss all things town ahead of tomorrow's game, as well as our predicted lineups and predicted score lines.
00:16:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we are back on the daily switch to discuss town's away trip to the city ground, Nottingham forest tomorrow at 3 p.m. We'll go through the predicted lineup and sort of give our thoughts on the individuals for the
00:16:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've sort of made my prediction line here, James, if you've got any qualms or any replacements, just shout out and let me know.
00:16:30
James
less co Yeah.
00:16:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we'll start with the Formation, I've gone for a similar to last week against United of a 4-2, 3-1. If you look at defense and goal, Muric and goal, I think a great performance from him when it came to suppressing set pieces.
00:16:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And back four, we've gone for Axel, Tuanzabi, Dara Shay, Cam Burgess, and Leif Davis.
00:16:45
James
Yeah.
00:16:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Talking point from that, I want to ask you, James, if Jacob Greaves is fit, obviously that time of recording is Wednesday, we don't know injuries and stuff, so maybe by Friday, by this Friday or Tuesday, he's all good.
00:17:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
But if Jacob Greaves is fit, because he seems to be on the mend ever so slightly now, does he usurp Cam

Ipswich's Lineup Considerations

00:17:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Burgess' spot? Because Burgess has put in a real good string of performances recently to warrant that spot. So what's your thoughts on if he is fit, and who should what you what would your starting for be at the back there?
00:17:20
James
Same as you, I'll be completely honest mate, because I would say Sunday was great. We played really, really well. So I don't, even if Greaves is fit and he's good to go, I wouldn't, I wouldn't put him straight in.
00:17:33
James
You don't want to shake things too much. I would definitely bring him on. If he's fit enough to play, I would definitely bring him on around the 60 minute mark. Definitely. Probably for Burgess, again.
00:17:43
James
Only, it's maybe even O'Shea. Whoever, whichever one doesn't really matter, I guess. But yeah, I wouldn't start him. I don't think I'm, I think I'm with you and I'd go for a a similar sort of start.
00:17:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, what was your, if he is fit, what's your reason behind that? Because you know, Richard and a lot discussed over sweet, you know, it's our 20 million pounds center back, you know, and he put in some great performances. So if he's fully fit, I mean, Burgess has created a good problem.
00:18:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think in Greaves absence showing that he can handle himself in the Premier League. Cause I think a lot of us were worried when groups went down as to how we made fair defensively with special O'Shea O'Shea fragility at the start, but he's really turned up recently as well.
00:18:13
James
yeah
00:18:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
I kind of think Greaves O'Shea would be a much more fearsome duet, both fully fit. I don't know. Like, do you, do you fully believe that?
00:18:29
James
i In fairness, well, I sound like I'm contradicting myself, but if ah if ah if i if I explain it right, I might be okay.
00:18:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:38
James
I do agree with you, 100, I do really agree with you, all three of you, because obviously fully fully fit, O'Shea and Greaves, yeah, I assume it's them two.
00:18:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hm.
00:18:50
James
But just because he's been out for good a good few months now, and it it would be his first game back, that is the only reason I wouldn't start him.
00:18:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hm. Been a while.
00:18:59
James
I would bring him on around 55, 60 minutes, bring him back into the game again, just so he's got some proper minutes.
00:19:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hm.
00:19:06
James
Because we all know it's different from playing fully fit in training games. coming into a Premier League game. So that's the only reason I wouldn't start him. not Nothing because, you know, Burgess is playing well, because he is. Fair play to him. But I would ah would still start Burgess just so Greaves doesn't come in too quick again. Play him again, ah ah you know, in the second half and then go from there. ah ah starting Starting the next game, definitely.
00:19:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Greaves can come on to defend our free goal lead in the 60th minute against Forrest.
00:19:35
James
That's the one. Exactly that, mate.
00:19:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Similar sort of discussion here for our midfield two Past two weeks we've seen a pairing of Sam Morsy and I'm going to get my name right, Jens Coyuste.
00:19:47
James
Yeah.
00:19:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Calvin Phillips was expected to come back last Sunday after his suspension lifted, but a non-distosed injury kept him away from the squad. Devil's advocate if he's fit this weekend, who starts alongside Morsy?
00:20:00
James
Jens.
00:20:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:03
James
For me Jens, I mean, he was unbelievable against United. you can't You can't drop him if he's playing. I know we've got, and Phillips has played well, he really has. And he's got obviously unlucky with the with the record. I say unlucky, but it's his own fault. Stupid. but And then unlucky with this this little knock. Fair enough. But if he's back or not, you can't drop. You can't drop. yeah I'm going to call him Jens just so I get his name right.
00:20:30
James
But you can't drop him when he's playing like that, because he played unbelievable against Man United. So I would definitely start him against Forrest with Mosey, 100%. And again, Mosey was bloody brilliant.
00:20:41
James
So good.
00:20:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
As he's proven to be week by week, yeah.
00:20:43
James
Week by week.
00:20:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
One of the things we've clearly used as well, which I think Richard touched upon recently, and it's a great, great
00:20:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
thing about Queso as well is that he offers something different compared to Phillips and Morsy in the middle where it's kind of just not standard pass side to side kind of thing but a tackle here and there which you know I think Morsy does fantastically as you just said but of Queso he offers something a bit different out those three with looking to go forward provides a bit more of an aerial threat as well and me it didn't really come off last week and unfortunately but those sort of long throw-ins as well which can be a real news if you haven't seen anything happen for them yet but it's a nice thing to have
00:21:12
James
Yeah.
00:21:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no, I completely agree with you. I think Houston's really started to show in but in the past two performances that, you know, this is a guy who was at Napoli. I'm not sure, obviously, how many parents he's made, but obviously he's a guy who Brentford also wanted to summon.
00:21:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
They usually scout fairly well as well.
00:21:29
James
yeah
00:21:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
We don't really go out outside of England, really, or the UK that much recently in terms of transfers. So for us to bank on him out of anyone, it shows the faith we had in him.
00:21:38
James
yeah
00:21:39
James
Yeah, definitely.
00:21:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think he's doing really well.
00:21:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
And, i you know, I think he does deserve this starting spot.
00:21:41
James
He first, he gets 25 caps for Sweden as well, cannot be sniffed at, that's, that you know, he's got something about him definitely.
00:21:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I'm in agreement, though. I think that K used to Morsy should be the pairing as well, because it's just it's just it's just offering two different things. You know, I think Morsy and Phillips, we kind of there were good moments between the two of them.
00:21:58
James
Yeah.
00:22:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the Aston Villa game was probably their best pairing together. But there's also a lot of just things that aren't right between the pair of them as well. And I think just the accused just offers that variety in terms of going up and down the pitch.
00:22:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Look at the front four. just list through who I've got here. i and This might be a bit of an anomaly here, but I've gone on the right, if fit, Johnson, Hutchinson in the middle, Schmodecks on the left, and then obviously Dilap up front.
00:22:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Looking at the right there, that seems to be an, I think, you can almost, but when everyone's fully fit, you can kind of almost nail on our starting 11 nowadays, which is good.
00:22:36
James
And.
00:22:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
But the right seems to be our most fragile spot as the season's gone on. Obviously Ogbenne looked fantastic against Brentford then, got that unfortunate injury.
00:22:41
James
Yeah.
00:22:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wes Burns had an injury to start and struggled to acclimatise. Good performance last week, I fought against United all all in all. Probably his best of the season so far. And then Johnson, great against Spurs after his calamitous game against West Ham. He looks like he's starting to come into his own, but he was out of an injury last week as well. so Again, I'm not sure what the severity of that injury is, but if fully fit, I'd like to think he'd be the guy because yeah he he was able to add a bit more defensive protection, speed, and just like a bit more strength as well. But what would your we start of like, your just thoughts on that right side of the of the team at the moment, because it is quite a weak area, I think, or undecided areas, isn't it?
00:23:21
James
Yeah, I mean, it is a tough one because obviously in previous episodes, a lot earlier, obviously we spoke a lot about Hutchinson being on the right and that's where he looks good.
00:23:31
James
That's where he's looked his best, but he seems to be coming into his own a bit more now. He's getting used to it more, isn't he? if The whole number 10 kind of rolling.
00:23:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. and Some good crosses.
00:23:41
James
It's great to see. and God, he was great. He's just, I'd love him. He's so good. He's so good, right? So yeah, I would agree. Keep him in the number 10, keep him there. And like, yeah, the right, the right side is, it's tough at a minute because Burns, I would agree United, against United was probably his best game so far. Yeah, definitely. and He's obviously still working his way into the Premier League, but I'll be completely honest, I don't think he's cut out.
00:24:13
James
I think it's... Yeah, you United was his best game, but ah for me, I think it's a step too far for him. I would put Johnson there ahead of him, 100%.
00:24:25
James
I'd love to have Agbene back, like obviously, but sir it's a massive miss, it really is, because he looked great.
00:24:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, miss him.
00:24:32
James
Yeah, it's just to a good it's going to be a struggle. It will be, but if we can keep Johnson fit as well, he's ah he obviously knows what he's doing anyway, and he looked good against Spurs. So hopefully you can get something there. Who knows in January as well. We might make a loan signing, maybe get someone out there because it's going to be needed, I

Match Predictions and Ipswich's Draw Tendency

00:24:48
James
think. And yeah, keep Smodich out there for now. He looks great. Donny on the left.
00:24:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, Schmodix, you know, I think he's really started to turn up the town recently.
00:24:56
James
Yeah.
00:24:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
And one of the things heading into tomorrow's game, I think as well, is he seems to, you know, good performance against un United, but seems to be a real bastion when it comes to away games.
00:25:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
All three of his goals have been away from home. So I'm hoping there's a fourth there for him as well. But obviously I'm thinking about an agreement. Liam Dilapp up top.
00:25:14
James
It has to be, don't it?
00:25:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Has to be, has to be.
00:25:17
James
It has to be.
00:25:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Before we head off, can I get your predicted score, please, James?
00:25:23
James
You can. Absolutely we can. I'm going to go... There's been a couple of times where I've given two in the head and heart. Head says 1-0. I think we'll get the point.
00:25:37
James
My heart's going to go through one each switch.
00:25:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
i'll go I'll go exactly the same. I've gone 1-0 as well. I think these 1-0 draws, we've had it a lot, or just draws in general.
00:25:42
James
Yeah.
00:25:46
James
Yeah.
00:25:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
like Will they be enough to see us see us through? i mean I would like to win a few more, but you know I think, as Rob said many times this season, you know as long as you don't lose away from home, then that's a point gained as a point gained, isn't it?
00:26:00
James
Absolutely.
00:26:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
and you know we could you know We went to a much more imposing ground in terms of its size, ah ah in terms of Tottenham, and on paper a better team, and we managed to get a result there.
00:26:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think the team won't be fearful at all after their last away trip as well. So it should be a great game in general. Before you go, what are your thoughts on like the way in which the the results have gone? just and like you know We've had the most draws in the league. you know On paper, that that can be seen as a good thing. But we've also had a lot of games where arguably maybe we could have got three points. If you look at Leicester, maybe Fulham or Villa, one of them could have turned into an even this past weekend as well. There's a lot of games we can't necessarily see off. A point ah point is a point. It's good.
00:26:39
James
Yeah. Great point.
00:26:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, I think you look at the Brighton draw, that was almost a win in general, because like how on the back foot we were.
00:26:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
But there's a lot of games here which we maybe could have got more than what we've got. What are your thoughts on that?
00:26:51
James
I think, I think personally, well, not personally, obviously, but just as an Ipswich fan, I think it all comes down to experience and these, these, these few games that we, I say few, you okay all these games that we've drawn, I think it's very apparent and it's come,
00:27:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:27:10
James
It's clear that it's becoming better, but it's it was very apparent that, um we liked experience, we were holding on, and you can tell that's the difference in the from the Premier League to the Championship. So I think that was very clear. We've got better at that in recent games, obviously, the last two games anyway.
00:27:29
James
I mean, four points out of six against Spurs in Man United.
00:27:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:27:33
James
Fantastic. The start of the season, I'm going to snatch your hand off of that. 100% I would have.
00:27:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:27:39
James
But then, like you say, these these other games, like the Fulham game, should we have won that game? Yeah, I think so. I do. We should have put that to bed. and but they've But then because Fulham have been in the Premier League for a little bit and they're now on the established side, that's where the difference is, I think.
00:27:55
James
So the longer the season goes on, I think we just need to keep that. Do you know what I mean? We just need to keep as simple as it sounds. We just need to get over the line more.
00:28:05
James
Do you know what I mean?
00:28:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:28:06
James
It's as simple as that. And hopefully we can. I'm sure we can. I'm absolutely sure we can. And yeah, but some of these draws are great results as well, though. We can't turn the night to that.
00:28:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Absolutely. Yeah. I think game management's a real key aspect, isn't it? And I think you've looked, at I think these past three results, you know, we haven't, you know, I'm beating three. What was it? Five points out of a possible nine.
00:28:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's really good. And you can go on a little run like that for a couple more games.
00:28:28
James
Right.
00:28:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a decent run of form. And I think the way in which we've drawn, especially United, the way in which we've drawn that game in comparison to other ones where we've either gave it away lately or just kind of holding on, it was a bit more back and forth, which is good to see.
00:28:41
James
Yeah, absolutely.
00:28:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
