Every club. Every day. The Global Sports Podcast Network. Here we go, Forest Ipswich crossover. Welcome back to the GSPN Daily Forest page. It's me, Mark Jarvis, joined by Marley and the brilliant Rob Binns from Ipswich. Dude, how are you? I'm doing very well,

Ipswich's Recent Performances and Key Games

00:00:20
Speaker
mate. Like I just said before, we sort of came on air here that I'm doing a lot better than if you asked me that question a month for a month or so ago with the recent performances and results and yeah see what happens this weekend.
00:00:31
Speaker
Yeah, well, I mean, when you first got promoted, I looked at, you know, your team, there's a lot of players, I actually looked at Hutchinson for us to sign and then you you came up and I was like, oh, I actually quite excited to see it. It's nice to have a different team that isn't just Burnley West Brom Norwich, Burnley West Brom Norwich. Do you know what I mean? But then then I was also like, well, with Hutchinson and all those players that we want to sign, we now won't because, you know, you're in the Premier League, but you're starting to look good. Yeah, it it's it's it's been a real upturn. brent It was the Brentford game was the turning point, really.
00:00:59
Speaker
although we didn't get the result in the end. I mean, you threw that away big time. Yes. Yeah. so

Forest's Lineup Challenges and Critiques

00:01:05
Speaker
if There was two games in a row in less to the following week where we looked really good and then we got a silly second yellow card and the game just sort of flipped from there and we were then we then started hanging on and We're not very good at hanging on. We've been falling apart a bit recently. Gibbs White and Anderson, both out injured, hopefully back for the Ipswich game. We think maybe they were rested against Arsenal with the Ipswich game to come. Marley, you watched a lot of the Arsenal game. Thoughts? Thoughts were awful, awful, awful. Ward Prowse, you're never such a football pitch again.
00:01:39
Speaker
and I fell asleep in the 80th minute because it was so what? The 80th? Well, we're already three nil down, fair play. I mean, that's before the third goal. I woke up and we were three nil down. Solid. Well, good afternoon then. I actually had to watch the goal on the video that James sent of his Eminence Sun's reaction to it. Yeah, that's not a good side of the afternoon, but hopefully this weekend that will be better. But I think it's going to be a good game. Rob, what are the dangers from Ipswich that we should look out for?
00:02:09
Speaker
Well,

Ipswich's Promotion and Player Adaptation

00:02:10
Speaker
there's a lot sort of growing that really now that the confidence around team generally, but someone you've already mentioned when I talk about boosting confidence is Hutchinson. Obviously he's off the mark now, which is we've been waiting for. And obviously he's been waiting for that that elusive first goal.
00:02:29
Speaker
Sigh hand from the deflection, but we know he's got those strikes in the locker. He scored two in one game against Hull on the way to promotion last year that we know he's got it. That's a game that was. I was at the pub in London, saw it on the TV and was like, wow. Every time we touched the ball, it was like you got promoted. I was like.
00:02:45
Speaker
Phenomenal in your silence and could be a really good player for you this season. and Do you think with him and Jack Clark and they're not starting to kind of grow and kind of get used to the Premier League? I mean, Schmodik seems to have adjusted immediately. Do you think with those three starting to really kind of hit the ground running that you could be quite danger moving forward? I like to think so. Yeah, we've seen a real sort of upturn in terms of activity in front of goal since that Brentford game. Obviously we scored three in that Brentford game and then we just that's where the' so we've sort of picked up there in terms of the.
00:03:15
Speaker
It's attacking has always been a problem in the build up to the season, whereas the last few weeks we started talking about in a positive way. And so we had a higher, even though we didn't win the game, where we, I definitely felt we could have done on Sunday, but that's our highest XG we've had all season. So we're clearly on the upward trajectory there. And so I guess money ale as well no I know got a new gaffer, but you know, there's still a good team on paper. So having a high XG against them, them is good. Miley, go on. basically, uh, there are two.
00:03:44
Speaker
players I am wanting to ask you about first one being someone who I want to know how is he adapting to the Premier League being signed from Hull and a

Player Performance Analysis and Comparisons

00:03:54
Speaker
very very promising player Jacob Greaves good defender yeah very He adapted, he took to it straight away. He was man the match that first game against Liverpool. he He was unbelievable for sort of four or five games. A couple of mistakes started to creep in the sort of West Ham and Villa games, but he was still probably one of our better defenders. And then, and then we've, we've, we've missed him to start with where we now he's been injured, but I have to say Burgess and O'Shea have stepped up massively and
00:04:25
Speaker
he's back and He was back in training last week, so fingers crossed we might see him whether that's whether that's Forest or maybe the next game after that. But he should be soon enough back and he's a very good player. He's a Premier League player at the end of the day. He's took to it straight away. There was no sort of period where he needed to adapt like a lot of our squad have had that There's like I said, they were any source to click into gear from that Brentford game a couple of weeks ago. Grooves is one who took to it straight away. Was unbelievable. And I'm really looking looking forward to having him back as good as Burgess. No show of being in there. But there he's had just extra bit of quality there with Grooves. And you see it when he plays. Mordaro is obviously worked with Vincent last season. Vincent company at Burnley. Very, very good defensive manager. Obviously one of the best defenders we've seen in the prem for a long time. Marley, who was the second one? The second one is another player who I very highly rated last season.
00:05:14
Speaker
And my little cousin really rated him as well. He actually had him on the back of his shirt, but he doesn't seem by the looks of it to have taken to the Premier League quite as well. Connor Chaplin. Yeah, he had two really good games against Brentford and Leicester, I think it was the other one. He had two where he sort of came into the team, looked really good, was quite a key factor in and then He's sort of either side of that. He didn't start very strong. he He played the Liverpool game, didn't look too great. And then Hutchinson sort of took over in that center and has made the role he's owned from there really. And then so he's had those couple of games and then we've had injuries sort of come back and he's dropped back out again. He doesn't really look like he's going to go and claim that place back really, especially as Hutchinson's getting better and better every week by the looks of it. he's
00:05:59
Speaker
I mean, yeah, Hutchinson's world class, though, isn't he? I think he's going to be like the next kind of Morgan Gibbs white in the Premier League. He looks really, really good. I actually know quite a lot about Connor Chaplin because my dad's a Barnsley fan. So, you know, I've watched him play many, many times and he's a good player. You know, he was a bit inconsistent for Barnsley towards the end, but we were all quite surprised to see him go. Do you think, obviously, signing in from Barnsley, you've taken him into league one, he's done well, gone up to the championship, smashed it with clear and McKenna. They seem to have a really good relationship. And then into the prem. Do you think he can make that step up?
00:06:28
Speaker
I think he can do yeah I just my worry with him is I actually felt this towards the back end of last season as well is that he's a sort of player that when we're playing really well he's fantastic he has a good game but it's them sort of gritty games that we had towards no he lost his place in the promotion run in last year to Hutchinson he's not been playing that often in the Premier League those sort of gritty tight games He actually tends to be, if someone's going to go missing and have a quiet game in those situations, that did always tend to be him. Like he became a bit of a luxury player towards the back end of last year. Like you're playing a team, you're controlling the game and winning company, he's best player on the pitch.
00:07:06
Speaker
Yeah, he needs the freedom to kind of flare, basically, essentially. So yeah, can I can see that. I can see that a lot. Another player that I've wondered about, I mentioned him earlier, Jack Clarke, phenomenal for Swansi, for Sunderland last season. I mean, he was just so good. Can't seem to replace Wes Burns in the team, though. What's Burns giving you that Jack Clarke doesn't?
00:07:26
Speaker
That's a tough question, really, because it's and neither of them have really stepped up that much. ah We was just saying on our um our po one of our pods earlier in the week reacting to that Man United game that when you saw Burns's name on the lineup against United, he felt it was a really massive game for him because he was probably top of the list of those that hadn't taken to Premier League football yet. He had that bit of a knock at the start of the season which slowed him down. But yeah, he was probably the standout whose performance

Team Strategy and Player Roles

00:07:51
Speaker
levels have dropped off and he had his best game of the season against United in my opinion. And he was a real threat down that right hand side.
00:07:57
Speaker
put in some really good crosses. So the most notable one was that one with the they deac went for a little fancy flick and Anana was level to that. He had his best game. So I'd imagine he'd probably go in again. But Clark sort of looked is another one really that he's had little positive cameos here and there. But I said it probably three or four weeks ago now. And I haven't changed my opinion is that Clark's problem is is he's the best candidate we have off the bench. We have all these weird game changer. Yeah, I've no I don't know who particularly on that right-hand side. like I don't know who starts on that right-hand side. like We've got various options. What I do, what I kind of look at, and but I look at the opposite way and I go, who's going to change the game for me if I bring him on for 20 minutes? Clark is top of my list for that. So that sort of then kind of makes you think, I don't want to start because I want to save him for that last 20 minutes when defenders are tired. And that's what Burns sort of does. He can come on, knock a people out and then let Clark come on and toy with them when their legs are gone.
00:08:55
Speaker
Yeah. Well, that's it. And I think well that's what we really struggled when we first came up was the depth. Cause you looked at our bench and half the time you looked at our lineup being defensive, kind of under, under Cooper and you were kind of like, where's the threat? Like where's the, where's the person off the bench that's going to change it? Where, where are teams looking going? Like, where's the fear factor? And we didn't really have it. So having clock there is, it's definitely a,
00:09:17
Speaker
is a good player to have. Obviously, Cooper's now gone from Leicester as well, too early in my opinion. But obviously, we're talking about Ipswich. So one person I do want to talk about, Molly, have you got the adverts, by the way, because my adverts are not working? Have you got the no if you got the read yeah Not on dashboard, but I can try and find the script and read it out if you want. Is that all right? Yeah, because I've got i've got another it switch player I want to talk about while you're finding it because my my reads aren't working. and But I wanted to ask you about a player I've been told a lot from it to switch fans about and they were very adamant about this person being the next England left back and that's Leif Davis. Great goal early this season, by the way. Unbelievable.
00:09:54
Speaker
and he looks really good. I mean, his crossing is outrageous. is he Is he genuinely that good? Is he going to be the next England left back? He should be.

Transfer Risks and Midfield Dynamics

00:10:03
Speaker
that Whether he is or not is a completely different question. That's down to, well, Thomas Tuchel now, I was going to say Lee Carsley, but... Marley, but he's Marley's there. I love him. I love him. One last player, I do actually want to... And it's about the depth as well. One mistake we made when we were in the United States, I think, is putting too much trust in big name players who weren't going to deliver. I think Jesse Lingard is the perfect example. That seems to be what you've done with Calvin Phillips being a former Man City player, former england former England international who hasn't done as well as people thought he would. What are your thoughts on that? I say that I've been asked this question pretty much every week when we have these crossovers. Everyone wants to know and my answer hasn't changed from that first game against Liverpool that
00:10:52
Speaker
what when it When we were linked, I said it was a risk and it wasn't what I felt we needed to make. And it almost felt like a bit of a statement signing. That was almost like we went and done that to then give the message to other players that we weren't messing about. We're here to compete and try and convince those better names to join. Obviously and what was left of that summer window and then now as we move forward into January and hopefully next year if we're still in the Premier League that I always felt he was a risk because sort of signed in him hope and hoping he can went go back to that Calvin Phillips of three years ago when he was fantastic in the Euros. But three years is a long time and he hasn't hit that level since then. He has had some really good games. So some of the games Villa again was one of his standouts, similar to it was with Jack Clark, I was saying earlier, but his problem has been, it's just such a lack of consistency. Like he'll, he's had two or three games where he's looked really strong and him and Morsy looked like a great partnership. And then
00:11:49
Speaker
He'll follow that up with the next two weeks where he'll look really poor. ah so The Villa game is probably his best game of the season so far for me. He followed up with West Ham where merely was a the team in general went from brilliant to shocking in those two games. but He was sort of the standout. He probably went from one of the best on the pitch to one of the worst in the space of a week. and The way Jens could use the display now, I don't see him getting back in when he's back from his little knock he's got. him That's not a problem as well. When I say about being rich, he's had two injuries already. A lot of things Switch fans said to me that they were like, they were worried about seeing Luongo and Morsy in Middlefield. So they wondered if Phillips was kind of like in there for a bit more pace, but it doesn't seem to have worked. It's kind of like us with the war prowess. We brought him in like a dead war specialist, but he just hasn't really, it's not landed. I don't think these statements are as really making the difference, are they? No, I think sometimes with those names or sorry. Yeah. I think sometimes with those names, it's like, you've got to
00:12:42
Speaker
factor in like the wrong move in a way sort of what slows and what can slow them down and they don't hit that level because obviously Phillips with City but I actually didn't, war he's he's more proud so he went to West Ham then he wasn't going to drop down to the championship with Southampton but first month or two he looked all right but he looked quite off the pace most of the time at West Ham and was quickly out of the team and you sort of again you've probably done the same thing we've done with Phillips you hope we so you sign in Leeds Phillips or Euros Phillips.
00:13:07
Speaker
You haven't, and obviously that's fun. I feel like you've gone for that. I hope when you get Southampton, Ward-Prowse and you've got West Ham, Ward-Prowse. Yeah, well, I think for me as well, it's the fitness, isn't it? Because neither of them have really played regularly, like, informed football and they haven't quite got that fitness back. Whereas, you know, we've signed like Hudson-Adoyan and Langer and players like that who are young and hungry and have got that potential. And we've got them back to their potential. Whereas with Ward-Prowse and Phillips doesn't seem to have happened. What do you think the game plan will be? Marley, have you found the advert? Yeah, I have.
00:13:36
Speaker
Legend, do you want to read that and then we'll go into it we'll go into game plans after that? Yes, of course. Do you have a story but to tell the world that the world needs to hear? Game Strategies and Lineup Predictions

00:14:26
Speaker
My favourite bit was the yano's.
00:14:30
Speaker
Got to put everything to that word. Always. Let's talk game plans, boys. ah Big weekend, big game. I mean, at the start of the season, we probably would have looked at this as ah ah as a potential early relegation six-pointer. We seem to have done all right up until now, but it's vital for Forest to get three points. Ipswich probably the same. and How do you think, Rob, how do you think Ipswich are going to set up for it? I think we'll go the same sort of... Well, we have a distinct style of play. We do every game. and we We do that footwork and that 4-2-3-1 set up.
00:14:58
Speaker
The only slight change we made was for Spurs, where it became a bit more of a five to deal with their fullbacks. So I would say, obviously, you you've had a lot of threat from your fullbacks as well. So maybe that would be a consideration again. But the way we done that was by having Ben Johnson on the right who is injured. And ah ah know I don't know if he's back this weekend or not. I'd say Burns had quite a good game. So that would be my only question, Mark, really, is do we sort of do that hybrid five model? Or do we just do out and out four, two, three, one? and I think it's the both sort of set up fairly similarly, I think. So I think it'll be a man to man and try and what we're quite similar teams, really, in terms of how we set up, we both set out, we both like to sort of control the game, but not it can accept when we need to be a counter attacking team as well, and use it to our advantage. It's quite similar setup. So it'll be interesting to see how it works out. Because it's what we sort of said the same thing about where my worry is, although i I was happy with the result in the end. But
00:15:54
Speaker
I said a lot of the same sort of stuff about Brighton in terms of the set up, but the team and I felt we were fairly similar and that finished 0-0. yeah i mean as well and it doesn't go the sure yeah Yeah, I think I think where while we will look at exploiting Ips, which is probably pace, because, you know, you've not got loads in midfield centrally at the back. You look good, but you're not that quick. So I think that's probably where they'll they'll look to exploit it. I think Wardle will probably come back in up front, I would say. And it then it just depends on Anderson and Gibbs White. You know, Gibbs White, we really miss his creativity, but we miss the engine room of Anderson. He just doesn't stop running. Marley, what are your thoughts? I think for me, it's going to be a simple case of can we stop being classic Forrest?
00:16:34
Speaker
And can it just avoid it being a classic Forest game? Because knowing Forest, there's a lot of Ipswich players that couldn't have the game of their lives on Saturday. One of those is Aaron Mureich, former Forest goalkeeper who was awful for us. It's written in the stars that he keeps a clean sheet and makes world-class saves. Leif Davis, former Leicester player, written in the stars for him to play the game of his life. Obviously, Sabi Shabodics and Liam Delappe both really worry me. They're both very, very high quality players.
00:17:02
Speaker
above relegation battles. And if he comes off a bench, this is probably not something you expected to hear on EZC, but do reckon George Hurst could surprise people and do quite well as well.
00:17:15
Speaker
ax lastster player as well yeah some some max midlands players there in there for sure you're in long for because he's in jail we first so as one off your is which is big negative for us Well, yeah, but I mean, if if you're in, look, this is where we struggled against Arsenal. We've got Danilo and Sangari have been out pretty much the entire season. They were kind of like our starting two holding midfielders, maybe with Anderson taking over, but Anderson's also injured and he is the backup to Gibbs White, who was injured. So currently we have no real out and out attacking midfielder and we're missing three of our other key players in midfield. So we're kind of a decimated on midfield and we've only got three other options, one of which is Ward Prowse.
00:17:55
Speaker
So it'll be interesting to see if we have anyone back fit, which hopefully we will, but it's going to be, it's going to be an interesting game. I can see it where forest will take the lead early, come out strong, get a lead. And then classic forest will give you an equalizer within four minutes. Cause we've done that like five times a season, and or we'll do what we did. We'll lose in our season. We'll go tuning up. We'll be cruising for the first 70 minutes and then you'll score twice at the end. And it will draw to all.
00:18:19
Speaker
Yeah, I actually have. I can't remember if I mentioned it while we were recording. It was before and one of my close mates is a Forest fan and I had the pleasure of being on a call with him while we were doing something like that. That looting game happened. That was fantastic to watch. He saw me implode as that result went away. It was fantastic. Listen to something like that would happen again. That would be even sweeter this time. Yeah, especially if you're on a call with him. Marley, what do you reckon? Do you reckon that's probably the structure of the game or do you reckon will actually come out and do well?
00:18:47
Speaker
Well what I think is, I don't think we'll do a Luton. Like what we did against Luton. Because against Luton it was substitutions that threw it away. Joe Warren's third jury came on and it was their mistake for two goals. This season, this is what I think is so much better than last season. I don't actually think we've got anyone on that bench, ah unless board browsers on the bench.
00:19:10
Speaker
that is capable of coming off a bench and completely screwing up our entire game. I do not, I trust everyone we bring off, especially defensively. Williams, I trust. Morato, I trust. Bollie, I trust. There is not one, even Moreira, I will trust. I don't think there's one player on that bench that can come on in that defensive line and absolutely screw up our chances of winning the game. It was nice to see Moreira come on at Arsenal, actually. It was really nice to see him get some game time at Arsenal. Oh wait, he came on. Yeah, I think so. I'm sure he came on in second half, isn't he?
00:19:39
Speaker
I didn't see him, but then I could have been asleep. I'll double check now. I'm sure it was. Carry on. My only real worry about f throwing a lead away is that I do think it's which I've got very high quality players. Play like Schmodix in the lap, link it up, could change the game in an instant. And Forest are liable to that sort of thing happening. If the flow of the game changes against us, we can be put on the back foot and then it can be very hard for us to get back on the front foot.
00:20:07
Speaker
that so long as we avoid that happening, keep that channel occupied, don't let them have that link up, I think we'll be all right. Sorry, you were right, he didn't come on, he was on the bench.
00:20:18
Speaker
But nice to see him on the bench. And hopefully he gets a minute soon. He came on again in West Ham. There we go. There we go. I knew i knew it was recently. But yeah, I mean, he's a good option to have. Yeah, you are right. The depth is good. I just, I just worry that we throw it away. Molly, do you think it's an option if we go 1-0 down?
00:20:37
Speaker
If we go 1-0 down, I think what we need to do, we just don't panic. Don't be too reactive. Don't panic because we know we've got the quality to turn the game back around. I think if it gets to like the 80th, 75th minute and we're down, then is the time to think about Williams and Moreira as more attacking options. But then again, it would only be freshness because Ina is attacking and obviously Moreno's got an assist. He is a good attacking player as well. So do you think if we're desperate towards the end, do you think that a one you can would can play together?
00:21:12
Speaker
It's a bad question. and's that We've not had proof of this yet. It depends. I think it can work only against the right opposition. And I think Newcastle was the opposition. I think if a one occupied, if a one occupied burn, that would leave Not only him being faster than Bern, able to get behind him, but that would leave Kraft up against Wood. And the whole reason we were so poor, I think, is because Bern's height cancelled out Wood's prowess. If Kraft was on Wood, Wood scores that game. Yeah, true. That's what I want him to do. Let's go to, shall we go to combined lineups?
00:21:49
Speaker
I feel like this is going to be good. I feel like this could be quite even, actually. I think I've got very different answers, and if you asked me last season, I reckon in goal, Matt Sells probably wins it at the minute. Definitely. Especially thinking back to Murch's forest days, I do not trust him full stop. What's Murch been like for you, Rob? Has he been all right this season or is he a bit dodgy? Hit a miss, really. I mean, United game is the sort of prime example of that. I thought for 15 minutes, I thought he was poor for the goal. I said, there's blame in multiple places, but I put sort of the majority
00:22:26
Speaker
towards him, in my opinion, for that. And first 15, he looked quite shaky. And you thought, oh, he might give another one away. He's looking a bit poor. Then, yes, I don't know what the traps then. No, then he's just, I don't know what the turning point was, but at some point he woke himself up. Then he was fantastic. He claimed every cross, every cross, of every corner he came and got with. He made a couple of saves. He didn't have too many saves to make, but when he did, he got his job done. He's playing out from the back, got significantly better after this first 15. He's just,
00:22:55
Speaker
He's someone we spoke about a lot. We've had down points where we've been calling for him to, is it time for a change and put Walton back in goal? But overall, he is our number one, and he just needs to get that consistency, really. But so I wouldn't argue so. Obviously, it was Forrest's defensive record. I think, well, I might struggle compared to ours. I might struggle to get any of our back line in, to be honest, but I'll do my best. I don't know. I i reckon, I think, Leif Davis is going to make an appearance. Marley, what do you think? Absolutely. That's the one I argue.
00:23:24
Speaker
I'll allow Leif Davis at left back, centre back. Over Moreno or Ina? Over Moreno I'd say. lot right wordss i reckon nimpran is on loan If go down I'd quite like us to sign Leif Davis permanently. I think that out of as much as it pains me not to sign Hutchinson and the devastation right because I think he'd be so good in our front line.
00:23:48
Speaker
I think Leif Davis is the player that we've been crying out for almost as much as Morgan Gibboite for the last like 12 years. We've not had like, ah up until Moreno, we've not had a good solid consistent left back for God knows how long. We've had decent low needs for like six months. We we have had a good solid consistent left back. There's only one problem with him. He was a midfielder. What Cohen? Jack Cobach.
00:24:13
Speaker
Well, yeah, but yeah, again, he's not really left back though, is he? But I mean, the amount of, we've had like just injured players or Kanczewski on loan, Nicky Shorey on loan. We've not had a decent, like, Leif Davis is the one that we need. So Rob, if you want to get relegated, mate, of course we would have to accept it. But then probably, would you say Marillo? Marillo Malenkovic probably, but there are two Ipswich defence centre backs, which are I love and I want them in, but I just can't put them in over our centre backs.
00:24:40
Speaker
those are Jacob Greaves and I can't lie, I do really love Luke Wolfenden. I was going to say, where's Wolfie? Where is he? Yeah, he sort of, that's another one we questioned at the time, really, that we've, O'Shea is someone we've sort of handed a lot of doubt about on our podcast and someone we've we said many times, we wanted him to be dropped and put Wolfenden back in because he didn't think he'd done anything wrong to be dropped in the first place, but then O'Shea, he's been one of the best players on the pitch for three or four games in a row now. So ultimately McKenna knows more about football than we do, shocked there that he knows what he's doing. So I trust, I trust him until the end. I mean, I might be wrong, but I feel like Wolfenden could be a bit of a Joe Worrell. Whereas like, you know, the fan, his fan favorite, but he just, just not quite at the pace of the prem. Yeah, maybe. but So I think in terms of the command 11 sort of things, like like I said,
00:25:33
Speaker
with your defensive record compared to ours, I don't think I can argue the two, arguably the best center back partnership, probably up there, Van Dyck and Canarthe, probably the only one you could argue over Marillo and Milenkovic this season. Well for now, for now, let's see. I think it's crossed it comes back this weekend, touch word, because we've been shocking the last few weeks. Right, so we've got Sells and Goal, Leif Davis left back, Marillo, Milenkovic and Ina, and then we move forward to the defensive duo. And to be honest, I don't know, out of both teams, I don't even know who's fit.
00:26:03
Speaker
Who would you put in there? Well, the midfield too. Well, I'll just, I'd go, well, I i have Davis, I have Hutchinson and I have Sam Morsy, who I argue every single week, regardless of who we play. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't. Morsy's just been, he's been Mr. Consistent every season. Whatever the division, he's taken to the Premier League very well. And read on recency bias, Jens Caduce has just dropped two outstanding performances against big six clubs in a row. and He's suddenly, he was a player we hadn't seen much of, and we were when Phillips got sent off, we sat there and we debated, oh, is this gonna cause us a problem against Tottenham? Because we've not seen this partnership together, really, apart from Southampton, where we were rubbish and nicked an equalizer at the end. And he's just, he's been, I don't know what's happened to him in the last couple of weeks. He's just sparked into life, and he's absolutely brilliant. So naturally, I'm gonna argue the Ipswich too.
00:26:58
Speaker
Well, I mean, Morsy is another one you got from Barnsley. You kind of became Barnsley 2.0, but just like kind of completed the lineup in a better way with McKenna as well. and But Morsy, yeah, he is Mr. Consistent, you know, and he scored some absolute belters as well. Fingers crossed you don't do that at the weekend, because Forrest have got a habit of conceding screamers in the Premier League. We'll give, let's say, let's say, because you, I think we've got to argue Ryan Yates is in there, aren't we, Marley? Definitely. Definitely. Ryan Yates is Mr. He's the play a very strong season.
00:27:27
Speaker
He's the player that you really, really want on your team, but you really, really don't want him on the other team. Yeah. I actually, I mean, as much as, because you just played well recently, I quite liked the naughty grittiness of Mausie and Yates together. That's a bit filthy in it. other cards in there every go Yeah, a couple of, yeah, a couple of black cards. That is like, that is like a center back pairing of Pepe and Ramos.
00:27:54
Speaker
Is it it's more like a Vinnie Jones mate to be honest Vinnie Jones and Roy Keane. Yeah What we all want to say and moving forward, it's it's Morgan back it's Morgan fit If he is he definitely goes in there if not then I actually want to put Connor Chaplin in We probably wouldn't start for Ipswich though dude I don't care, I want Connor Chaplin in. All right. Well, you can argue Connor Chaplin. I'll argue Hutchinson. So essentially, the Forest fans are arguing which Ipswich players they want in. That's not a good omen, though. Why not drop Bellingham for the World Cup and start Connor Chaplin? You know, I've just side note, I think we should sign J.B. Bellingham. Forest.
00:28:41
Speaker
Interesting shout there. Yeah, Ipswich will probably get in. Although I think he wants to sell Bellingham and sign Job instead. Oh, we'll have Jude then. We'll have Jude downstairs. We'll settle. We'll just settle. yeah I mean, although I imagine next year is an Ipswich. Imagine Joby Bellingham, Hutchinson and Jack Clark.
00:29:09
Speaker
ah ah That is what it's scary to think about. Rob's life is about playing a game. Lovely. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious. Delirious.
00:29:35
Speaker
it want to small yes modern typepodo Schmodix and Hudson Delirious.-Adoy on the wings for me. Yeah, I was going to say. So when we say that Gibbs White's out. If you want to run with that, yeah. I don't know. You're the forest expert, so I don't know. Is he back or not? I hope not. If Gibbs White's fit, my personal choice, I mean, they're not fully informed, but my personal choice would be Hutchinson and Clark out wide, Gibbs White in the middle, because that's just naughty. But there's a case for Hudson-Adoy, there's a case for Schmodix as well.

Ed Sheeran's Impact on Ipswich Town

00:30:09
Speaker
If I'm being 100% honest and unbiased, I would put Hudson or Doy over Clark. Smodix is more of a debate there, but so if you all preferred one's Clark on the left, I would have gone Hudson or Doy over Clark. But I would, I'd have to argue the case with Smodix over both, although it's tough for Hudson or Doy because it's a couple of million quid. Should we say Smodix, Gibbs-White and Hutchinson then for balance?
00:30:38
Speaker
Yeah, I'm happy with that. I'm not going to argue with two out of three town players, and you can have me that happily. Happy with that, Molly? Yeah, I'll accept that. Yeah. OK. And then up front, we've got the battle between Dalap and Wood, and now for Molly as well, even though he doesn't actually play up front anymore, Connor Chaplin. Debate, 30 marks, discuss. It was tough. Two very informed strikers. Liam Dalap. I rated him when he was at Hull. I rated him this season.
00:31:07
Speaker
Chris Wood is just a man in form at the minute. He seems to take goals like food. So my, it is, let me throw in a bit more colour for the debate, right? So Chris Wood, he's an out and out striker, big guy, really, really strong, can hold the ball up, links the player really well, and he's just always in the right position. But I've watched Alap a lot more this season. I mean, you know, when he was on the line at Stoke, I just thought he was a bit of a striker, kind of a poacher, but he's actually not. He's actually a really good footballer, very quick, very pacey. He's probably a bit more technical than Harland is really, but obviously he's just not as much of a goal threat yet.
00:31:41
Speaker
But you know do you want someone on top of that line at the combined line that we've got who is maybe more informed in terms of just being in the right position? Or do you want someone who is is more of a technical footballer to link up with your Hutchinson's and your Gibbs-Whites and whatnot? Well, you know what my answer is going to be, so it depends if you two outvote me or not, really. Personally, in my opinion, it all depends on who the wingers are. Well, again, I would quite happily take Dilap to replace a 1U at the end of the season because I don't know if a 1U is going to stay.
00:32:12
Speaker
Look, I don't like you eyeing up all our players here. I'm getting a bit nervous now. oh but it listen well if we If we swap in January, we'll give you all of our players, just the ones that we don't want. Oh, your bench players. Yeah, that sounds fair. It depends on, I'd say it depends on the wingers, because Hull last season with Lee and Dalat, I don't think Lee and Dalat played up front, but if he did, the wingers providing him service would be Jaden, Phil and Jean and Scott Twine. Those two are both PC wingers with a very good cross on them. Yeah, but was very technical as well.
00:32:43
Speaker
If you've got technical pacey wingers who can wriggle into the box and you just need that extra pace on the striker to add to that, I think they'll lapse your answer. But if you just want straightforward wingers who just get forward and get the ball in the box and you just need a poacher, it's Chris Wood that you want to put in. Right. So are we saying we can't decide? We'll leave it to the fans to decide in the comments. Yeah.
00:33:05
Speaker
but fair Right, so the lineup, we've got Selsengold, Leif Davis, Murillo, Milenkovic and Ina. We've got Sam Morsey and Ryan Yates in what is one of the most outrageous midfielders ever. That would be a goal. I'd happily take that in Forest Team, the gutsy engine room people. I'm sure you would at Ipswich as well. Hutchinson, Dibswhite, Schmodix and then Wood or Dalap up front. That's quite an exciting lineup there, innit?
00:33:28
Speaker
Fair play. One more thing before we go, though. We have got to talk about the the ultimate drama of Ipswich Town of the Week, right? First game in charge for Mr Reuben Amorim, slammed, ruined, destroyed, as the media have decided to call it, by yeah one of our favourite pop stars, Mr Ed Sheeran. Rob, thoughts? ah did He didn't put himself across brilliantly there, Ed, I have to say. He ah just sort of, I think he probably had a bit to drink, celebrate in a ah good point. that potentially could have been more as well, but he is sort of, he's the face that gets plastered around with us now. They're sort of something we bought into a lot and probably are starting to push too far at this point if I'm being a hundred percent honest, but he is great. He has such a global face to help you sort of sell the brand of the club. But I did think that- Well, also the kill spot has brought you a lot of money, hasn't it?
00:34:22
Speaker
Yeah. Well, I think like kit sponsor has probably bo you a lot jumping in the interview, I didn't, they didn't come across great there, but also at the same time, someone's let him do that. He doesn't just, but you don't just bowl in the background without someone from production stopping you. And ah someone someone's late for it will be a good laugh. So I don't think it seemed like you'd have to do it as well. If you're Ed Sheeran, you kind of get away with it, don't you? But I think also with Ed Sheeran, it looked like he just run over and was like, I'm a massive fan of the show. I don't think he actually realized the timing of Amoram's first interview. Probably reg regret that slightly. Marley, go on.
00:34:53
Speaker
I just think Ed Sheeran had a bit too much drink. He was thinking out loud, celebrating his A-Team getting that point. And I think he's going to tell Amaran that he's not in love with the shape of him. Yeah, well, that's it. And then if Amaran gets his own back, he'll be sent to the castle on the hill. Come on,

Match Predictions and Conclusion

00:35:08
Speaker
to conflate this game. I absolutely love Ed Sheeran. So do I. Hence all the songs. Although it's an English town that he's looking after, not an American town. What's going on there? Terrible.
00:35:21
Speaker
Boys, pleasure. What a great podcast that was. and Let us know in the the comments, Dilap or Wood, the debate. I mean, this is going to be a really interesting one, isn't it? It's going to be like, I want fans that are not able to switch your forest funds to get involved as well who are non-biased because we can't decide. It's going to go two ways. It's going to be all of our lot. I'm going to argue Dilap, all of your lot. I'm going to argue Wood. We need some new choices that come in and decide it for us.
00:35:45
Speaker
going to be all right.
00:35:48
Speaker
predictions yet sorry my bud rob what your prediction for the weekend
00:35:52
Speaker
It's a tough one because I don't know how many of your players going to be back fit because I do think it makes a big difference on whether Gibbs whites in that 10 role or if it is a war prowess or a Yates or someone in there again.
00:36:05
Speaker
i and And like you say, Anderson's been, you're missing probably two of your most important players this season. I think and they're both back time then. And the the home advantage probably sways it a bit towards forest, but I'm going to play on my hope that they are both out and we find you out of form and missing some key players. And I'm going to market see if we can nab a solid point away from home, at a tough ground to go. i say I'll say I'll go one all draw. I don't think it'll be very entertaining. and I think we'll cancel each other out, to be honest.
00:36:34
Speaker
Very humble, I like that. I've had visions of a 3-2 to Forest. I don't know why, like a 93rd minute winner, but we'll see, could equally be like a 5-0, and I'd kind of be happy to watch that on Match of the Day as well, do you know what I mean? I actually, I got offered a ticket for the Ipswich game this weekend in the Forest End, and it's my Mrs. Birthday, and that's obviously more important. You know, I'm looking forward to having a nice day about it. You know what, Mark, what you could do, Mark, you could go up to one of your mates and say,
00:37:04
Speaker
I'll be offering a ticket to the forest game. It's my Mrs. Birthday. If you want to go instead of me, you know, she's going here. This is the sort of cake she wants. This is the sort of present she wants. Have fun. I'm off. Yeah. Hire a doppelganger to go and look after the mittens for the day. Perfect. Sounds like a good idea. Yeah. Absolutely not. I would absolutely love to be up there in Upper Brian Clough and watch 10 goals fly in, but I don't think I would be able to cope with a 5-5, especially not if the last goal was a Nipswitch goal.
00:37:30
Speaker
Right, I've gone 3-2, what's your 3-2 90th minute winner? What's your big prediction? That sounds like the predictions I was making at the beginning of our podcast, and I'm going to make the sort of one that you guys are making. I don't think whether or not Gidwiter Anderson or Alts will make the biggest difference this time, because I think Johto Silva will actually fill in this time, and I think he's more than capable of doing that job very well. If we actually use him, like we should, I'm getting very annoyed at him not being played there.
00:38:00
Speaker
But I've gone 2-0. I think our defence is solid enough to keep a clean sheet. My only worry is Dilap, Morsy and Hutchinson not needing a penalty area to score the goals. I think Wood will be back in the starting line-up and scoring as usual. And I don't i can see us having a big, big response to two very poor performances.
00:38:22
Speaker
Hopefully we need it because you see, we've got city and you United away at the next two games in Manchester, Manchester week coming up. So fingers crossed. But I think either way, it's going to be a really good game. Rob, thanks for joining us. It's been a pleasure, mate. Really enjoyed that podcast and wish you best of luck for the season and, you know, going to be a great game at the weekend, I think. Yeah, I think so. Cheers for having me, lads. I enjoyed that. And I'll say, I'll take Saturday aside, once we get Saturday out of the way, best of luck for the season. I hope all goes against you on Saturday.
00:38:52
Speaker
that 40 minute podcast, what a belter.
