Metaphor Confusion and Serious Warning

00:00:00
Speaker
Just to make sure that's super clear because I know a metaphor sometimes does go over your head. With that, he's literally just going to look up. Eyes back down, he clicks. Eyes down, eyes down, it's important. Eyes on me, eyes on me, eyes on me. And he looks at you really slowly and says, if you light fire to the ship, we are fucked.

The Beckford's Crew Spots Pursuers

00:00:48
Speaker
You look back off the aft of the ship and you see the two roam boats continuing to gain on your small ship, ancient ship known as the Beckford with its skeleton crew of boys, an old haggard lady called Hagbastard and Tarot along with a few other members of the crew.
00:01:05
Speaker
The three of you are on the aft of the ship looking back towards the, sorry, you're at the bow of the ship looking back towards the aft, looking out off to the port side, port aft side, off to where the ship is that's been kind of hounding you for quite some months now. Always off in the distance, but never close enough to be a trouble. Never really approached, never asked why, but your eye was always on it. And now suddenly you know why. Two small boats start catching up on the Beckford.
00:01:30
Speaker
They are probably, at the speed at which they're gaining on you, you've probably got about 15 minutes before they get to you. Reigns, Emon, Alpha, you've seen this ship, you hear Tarot squawking from the crow's nest, pointing down to where they are. What do you guys want to do with your time?

Preparation for Incoming Threat

00:01:49
Speaker
So, Emon will suddenly be like, Bastards, right? Let's, uh, let's, uh,
00:01:59
Speaker
get ready for a wheat barney then, shall we? And Ron will then strive towards the stairs to... I want everyone, before you go, I'm just going to take off my duster coat and just give it to him and go, it's going to be mighty too hot for me to wear that. If you could take that back down into the cab and I assume that's where you're going. All right, I'll go put it on your bunk and you'll be fine.
00:02:21
Speaker
So, everyone takes the coat and he then trots down the stairs ducking and then he will sort of grab and start to shrug on his chain mail shirt and then pick up his hammer and head back up whenever time allows. Okay, lovely. Thank you very much. If that takes you about 10 minutes, is that right to put on? I can't remember what depends on the
00:02:44
Speaker
Have a little look. I think it's anywhere between 5 and 10 minutes. I love a wee look. Have a little look. And while that's going on, Alpha and Rains. Rains, you've just shrugged off your Duster jacket, given it to Emron. You're still on deck

Makeshift Defenses and Shield Suggestions

00:02:55
Speaker
with Alpha. Anything you guys want to be doing with your time. You notice the crew start to be scurrying around, looking to you guys like, what are we going to do? And they start kind of readying themselves with little pathetic rusty daggers and taking up positions and moving barrels. But they're not really sure how they should really protect this boat.
00:03:13
Speaker
I'm going to glance around and I'm just going to go to hag bastard. Yeah. Ain't much of a fire, are there any chance you got a shield or something I can use to protect myself? We could put some barrels up and you could hide behind them.
00:03:31
Speaker
It's better than smacking the face with a shitty stick. I'll have that. The old captain pulls the battered fedora off her head. Yeah, she's got a fedora and gonna waft it in her face. I'm gonna be down underneath the deck. I'll get Tarot and the others to build you a bit of a defense. It won't be much, but it might help fuel the clang and bangs as they come through.

Sea Combat Strategies and Improvisation

00:03:53
Speaker
Do you reckon you three have this? Well... Wait, you're leaving this to the three of us?
00:04:01
Speaker
Well yes, that's, that, yep, yep. Particularly, look at the crew, they're all skin and bones. Having to just sort of- Alright, alright, alright. Get it, get it, get it. Get them all into the cargo bay, we'll deal with this. Fantastic. Apparently Alpha, we're now going to be about the business of being heroes. You got anything in that memory bank of yours that might help us starve off those angry looking bastards? You got any suggestions?
00:04:28
Speaker
Alpha's going to get that glazed look come over again, and he's just going to check his hard drive, and as his eyes pop back up again, I believe I recall reading in many adventure stories that combat at sea is with cannonballs. Mark, is there any cannonballs around here?
00:04:49
Speaker
I'm looking for really, really light ones. Do cannons even exist at this stage? No. There is not any sign of any cannons or anything like that. No, we are bow and arrow people. Is there anything that's maybe slightly weighty? You can give me like five pound and under.
00:05:08
Speaker
Oh, that's very specific, Callum. Give me an investigation check, please. We're searching the deck of the ship. Is that right?

Discussion on Using Explosives

00:05:15
Speaker
I will search as much of the ship as I believe I have time for. Basically, I'm looking for something that's
00:05:25
Speaker
slightly weighty that's probably got a little bit of oomph to it, a very solid kind of object really. You're looking for cannonballs, or the closest equivalent to it? Cannonballs are the closest equivalent to it, but I only rolled a 12 on my investigation check. Okay.
00:05:42
Speaker
No, your best bet is going down under the deck, and with all the bodies of the crew coming down there, moving stuff around, kind of shifting barrels around, everything's not in the place it usually would be. You have a faint recollection of something heavy up above deck at the back of the ship, at the aft of the ship, and up going and exploring that. You do remember that it has an anchor. That's about all you can find that's weighty, but probably a little too weighty for your cause.
00:06:06
Speaker
Yeah, I will probably still kind of go to and try and lift and grab and it is like, Hmm, no, I do not believe this would be acceptable to be used as some form of cannonball. Okay, preparation it is. And yeah, fair enough. Are you thinking what I think you were thinking there? Are you thinking you thinking we are we fire the catapults?
00:06:33
Speaker
That seemed the most logical course of action in such a circumstance. If we could possibly sink the boats before they actually get closer to us, it would avoid all necessary close combat. Well, that sounds mighty mighty like a funny fine idea. Hold on one second. No, it's down in the it's down in the hold. You'll find my crossbow bolts. What say you go down there and get them?

Tactical Planning: Barrels vs. Magic

00:07:01
Speaker
As you wish, dad.
00:07:04
Speaker
other boy and alpha you wander off down under deck and you're going for his crossbow boat i'm going to go for his crossbow bolts um i have been walking around because they don't weigh too much with like pistol and a bit of ammo uh just on my person anyway so i'll just go down get his crossbow bolts look towards the people who are building this barricade and um thinking back to his adventure stories that he's kind of read he's going to look at them on just go
00:07:33
Speaker
Do not worry, citizens. We will save you. And then it is back to his normal kind of self, and he just kind of strips off the deck. Could you give me a performance check, please? Yeah. I'm shit at performance. Oh my god, my rolls. I got a five. Tarot gives you a thumbs down. Tarot, the mute boy, gives a thumbs down. And hag bastard just goes, fuck off, tinpot man.
00:08:04
Speaker
I believe it may be worthwhile to take some lessons from a father on line delivery.
00:08:14
Speaker
And as you wander back up onto deck, you pass now the ready and kind of battle ready, Emron. And Emron, you join Alpha as you walk up the steps back into the blistering hot sun, entering into Goldview, sorry, into Goldview, into the Bronze Storm Sea, probably, you know, we're looking at half a day away from being in Goldview, so close before this started to all go wrong a little bit. The boats continue to get close. You've probably got about five minutes before they are,
00:08:43
Speaker
at in a position to to get upon your ship is there anything else the three of you want to do while you're there i'm actually imagining barricade wise that like um at the bow where like the forecast is i imagine that like they've arranged from barrel so that um
00:09:01
Speaker
reigns can sort of stand at the bow and be able to use that as cover. Is that what you were thinking Darren? That's exactly what I was thinking. So Enron sort of taking himself to a sort of a midships and he sort of started like limbering himself up sort of getting his hammer in his hand and sort of getting it sort of ready in himself.

Defensive Positions and Allies

00:09:24
Speaker
and just getting himself reaped ready for some uh things he sort of grabs sort of grabs him grabs a little um his little religious symbol around his neck and goes sort of starts muttering to himself sort of getting himself ready that's it nice um alpha wouldn't mind actually just going back down to where all the barrels are being set he's looking for
00:09:51
Speaker
the human who is helping lift barrels with earlier. Yeah, he's fine there. He's down there, he's underneath, he's sitting with some of the others, sat at one of the barrels just looking a bit grumpy, arms folded, sipping on his hip flask. Yeah, he's there and he looks up as he sees you. Please advise me, work friend, these barrels of special liquid that we moved around earlier, are they by any chance flammable?
00:10:22
Speaker
His eyebrows shoot up at that point. Now, there's a couple of things I should probably tell you, Alpha, about our situation, aka this ship. If you do indeed to partake upon a naked flame, understand the ship is made of a flammable material known as wood. And if you put a flame on wood, what happens is our boat goes down, my lungs go full of water, and everyone upon it dies. Just to make sure that's super clear, because I know a metaphor sometimes does go over your head.
00:10:52
Speaker
um with that he's literally just gonna look up look eyes back that he clicks his finger eyes down eyes then alpha this is important eyes on me eyes on me eyes on me and he looks at you really slowly and says if you light fire to the ship we are fucked
00:11:09
Speaker
Exactly. Now let me just clarify what I mean by the F word there. I mean that our lives will end because the vessel that keeps us above the water will no longer be above the water. It will be in the water, then we will be in the water, then we will be dead in the water. That is not a metaphor, my friend.
00:11:26
Speaker
I do understand your concern. I'm just wondering if it's of logical defense to throw a barrel over the side of the ship and then possibly seem to detonate said barrel when they are closer to it than what we are. Oh, yeah. Remote explosive. That would be absolutely fine. But again, I'm

Engagement and Comedic Combat Moments

00:11:45
Speaker
just going to grab a barrel. And he doesn't stop you as you pick up the barrel and walk out. These are like
00:11:54
Speaker
You know, you're six foot tall, you're fine to carry these. These aren't the kind of big barrels full of ale. These are much smaller barrels that you'd use for things like wine and spirits, and indeed, this does have a spirit within it. He's going to go up to the top deck and go, Father, Dad, I believe I have an alternative solution. I believe this barrel is full of highly volatile liquid flammables. Perhaps we could throw it overboard and set it ablaze when they are closer using this, and he's just going to pull out his pistol.
00:12:23
Speaker
I mean, yeah, it's an optional ad. The only problem is, how far can you throw? How good are you at actually hitting them? And what happens if you set their boats alight while they're next to our boat, which sets our boat alight? I'm afraid them Ron makes a good point there, Alpha. I see how that could come at a disadvantage to our situation.
00:12:49
Speaker
I mean, it's a really good idea. Don't put yourself down. I tell you what, let's drop a couple of these now because our boat's going to move away and their boats are moving towards them. And then me and Al Fook are fling some stuff at their boats.
00:13:06
Speaker
too far under the idea of setting our boat on fire. I'm all up for setting theirs on fire. So perhaps we should drop some barrels here. Some are going to slip through the net, and when they do, you greet them with that hammer of yours. And I should warn you, Imran, if they get onto this boat, I am not going to be of much use. Well, I mean, yeah, so my plan was to stand about here. And hopefully,
00:13:35
Speaker
because one thing I know is we would all want them going downstairs and mullering all the crew. So I was going to try and make sure they don't go downstairs. So yeah, I'll do what I can to like say, look at me, look at me coming at me and see what happens. But yeah, I reckon drop some barrels over and you're going to think to try and like, I don't know,
00:13:59
Speaker
blow them up while they float near them. Indeed, blow them up from a safe distance from our ship keeping ours above water. Do they definitely explode? Well I can make sure they certainly catch tinder and what I'm going to do is pull down my sleeve and one of the tattoos around the moon is of the evocation symbol and that will just glisten and then out of the wristband will just come this
00:14:22
Speaker
firebolt, which I'll just hold in my hand, which I will then just dissipate and go, at least I can do is throw some kindling at it. Call me a man of simple thought. Because, I mean, I know alcohol burns, but you've got to penetrate the wood. Could we not just throw your fire at their boats and bypass just setting this stuff on fire, just throwing it out there?
00:14:52
Speaker
I'm going to look at Alpha. Yeah, do you know what? Do you know what? I actually think that could work. Alpha, are you in agreement that that could work? It is another alternative solution. However, I question the possibilities of such actions as if we set their boats ablaze.
00:15:14
Speaker
very close to water, the splash may indeed just extinguish said flames. However, a big explosion breaks boats. That's my only thought. If you make the barrels blow up now, give it a go. But why don't you go with both options? I believe you want to drop the barrels. Let's go nuts. But this is wine, that pitch tar. So I don't know how explosive it's going to be. But anyway, let's just drop the barrels. They're still coming. So everyone's going to sort of pick up a barrel.
00:15:44
Speaker
hook it on his shoulder and then move to drop it over the side so that it starts to float behind them. And it does, it goes down into the ocean, you see it bob at the top and the two boats that are following close behind rowing, do they notice?
00:16:01
Speaker
Yes, one of them notices Zilland does not. One of them does peel away slightly. They're not following both directly behind. The one that is kind of heading directly on course for it does notice and starts to peel off to the side about 15, 30 foot away from it. So they kind of spread now either side of you. I believe that one would be your best target. I could see that. Alfa, do you have your messaging relay online?
00:16:25
Speaker
met a question. Do you have the message cantrip? I do have the message cantrip. Can you send them a message to desist or we will have to kill them?
00:16:38
Speaker
You mean the people following us? Of course. Well, if no point sending it to me or Imran. And I'm just going to point to, well, if there is a leader that looks like to be on one of these boats, or if there's one looking very stoic at the front, or kind of shouting orders at the others to row faster, row faster, I'm literally just going to very dramatically kind of lift up my hand, point to him, and then point to my temple as well.

Dramatic Message and Pursuer's Reaction

00:17:06
Speaker
And I'm going to use the message cantrip to send him a quick message. But I have to wait until he's within 120 feet of me. He is within 120 feet of you. You chat for about three minutes or about a minute and a half away. So they are within range. OK. And again, he's going to take this kind of from his adventure stories that he's read. There you go.
00:17:31
Speaker
Now see here Vagabond. This is your first and last warning to cease and desist the pursuit of our vehicle. We will not hesitate to end your life should you get any closer.
00:17:43
Speaker
The figure kind of jumps back in surprise and kind of touches his head for a second and then looks up. He turns to someone next to him and points to you, Alpha, who's pointed to him. And you see this character lock an arrow and pull back and he's going to lose this out straight towards you, Alpha. And you are in partial cover because of the back of the ship comes up to about your waist.
00:18:08
Speaker
stupid me have just said about partial cover half cover and i don't you know the rule for half cover i'm just on your first chapter yeah it adds well it's it's it's it's called it's called rules clarification not not lawyer it's a plus two as you're a lawyer i think it's a plus two
00:18:27
Speaker
It's not a lawyer, I'd say that he's the rules judge, because a lawyer argues for and against the judge's rules. Now that's still technically you, a lawyer kind of, you know, appeals to the right course of action. No, no, I just state what the rules are, whether it's benefits us or benefits Mark, because you can't keep track of anything. Yeah, judge the rules, judge. That's why we love you. Listen, there's got to be two mean to him, because I think it's not going to fit us. I prefer facilitator.
00:18:52
Speaker
Ah, nice. So attack with half cover has a plus two bonus to AC index, which is saving throws. That's cool. So you're in half cover, so you get a plus two to your AC alpha as this gets thrown at you. I watch this. Critical. Fuck.
00:19:07
Speaker
He rolled a nine. Lovely, I love level one stuff. Can he hit the front of the ship just like this thing that's covering me? Can he actually hit that with this arrow?
00:19:23
Speaker
So you're telling me where the arrow goes. I'm asking if the DM will permit. Couldn't let the arrow. The arrow, the arrow soars far off to the left and bloop off into the ocean. Callum. No, you can't just say, oh, would it be possible if the arrow just be here? No, I just had an idea that would have been quite cool. Yeah, exactly.
00:19:43
Speaker
You didn't even get to where the arrow went before you tried that. Whenever you ask that, I'm always going to say no. Unfortunately, the arrow sails off far to the side. His footing wasn't quite right on the back of the boat there. They are now quite close to the back of the ship now. They are both moving not to get on to the back of the ship, after the ship, but then moving both the port and starboard sides now, trying to get a good handle hold onto the ship sides there.
00:20:10
Speaker
Sorry, go on Darren, you first. I take it that that was a no alpha? While I did not get any verbal response, their actions would seem to deem it so. By your calculations, are they about 90 feet, within 90 feet of us now?
00:20:24
Speaker
I would agree so, yes. Peachy. I'm going to take a crossbow bolt off my back and I'm going to line up a shot that hopefully will just get a line that will get a couple of them in line just to buy myself some contingency. Should I miss the first one? I'm going to drop this crossbow bolt with it and it's going to start to lift its fall towards the ocean.
00:20:45
Speaker
The transmutation orb around the tattoo of the sun is just going to glitter in the sunlight. And this crossbow bolt is just going to take off towards this bloke who fired the arrow at Alpha. I have cast catapult and I need him to make a dexterity saving throw. Nice. Okay. 13.
00:21:11
Speaker
That meets and beats. It will go past him and it will then, if there's one on a row or something, it's now heading straight for him.

Pirates Board the Beckford

00:21:23
Speaker
18, sorry. Rolled 18, I'm sorry. To 19. Is there anyone else about to get in the line? They're not in a line now, unfortunately not. No, so it would be the two of them. They're relatively small boats. There's three apiece on each of these. You can make out from this distance now. There are two...
00:21:40
Speaker
pirate-esque melee characters on each and then an archer on each, what, a crossbow wielding character. No, they are bow and arrow. They are bow and arrow. I'm going to look to Rains on that and say, hmm, I'm intrigued. What was the strategy behind that maneuver, dad? The strategy was that arrow was supposed to hit that guy on the face. Didn't quite work the way I planned. Are you planning on contributing to anything?
00:22:09
Speaker
Just out of curiosity, how close is the barrel to their boats at the moment? It's past it. They managed to see it and they moved away. They rolled really well in their perception and they moved directly away from it. I thought one of them didn't notice that part. One of them didn't notice, but they were already quite far away from the ship. And I'm going to pause there because I think we've had enough free mini actions. We are going to jump into it. Let's actually get into initiative. So can I please ask that you roll initiative, please? The first initiative of the story.
00:22:37
Speaker
I am rolling turds tonight. You always did. Alright then, did anyone, dare I ask, anyone roll 20 plus? Wow, Will doesn't put his hand up, Jesus. Have you got a minus one to your... Yeah, I've got a minus one to my initiative. Have you got a passive perception of 36 still? Nah. Did anyone get 15 to 20? I keep going lower. This is fun. 10 to 15. Lower. Okay, so they go first.
00:23:07
Speaker
Five to ten. I got eight. Five. So it's going to go alpha. I rolled an eight and now I'm first out of all three. What did you get, Emron? I got six. Six. And would you roll, uh, Rains? I rolled a three, which is plus two, which is five. So it goes, it's difficult calling you these new names now. Um, no, it won't be, it won't be for long. I have to write like the opening thing as well. Get all your names right.
00:23:36
Speaker
Lovely. So we've now got an order. And if you jump on to roll 20, where all the beauty happens in the world, you should see a ship. And I put you all at the back of the ship. If you notice, I believe I said I was stood in the middle, but okay, you are in the middle.
00:23:57
Speaker
No, no, in the middle of the boat, we're near where the... My intention was to stand wherever the hatchway going down is, and one's going there because if they go down and butcher the crew, we've got problems. Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha. No problem. And okay, so you're in the middle of it near the hatch in the middle of the boat. After the ship, we've got those black dots. There are large barrels. We couldn't find a good barrel on Roll 20 for free, so we used black dots instead. The character in green, Darren, is Rains behind the barrel. This small, gunned figure.
00:24:27
Speaker
that you can see to the south of the ship, that is U Alpha. About 20 or 25 feet away from the back of the ship are these two rather shit boats that I've got with crew that seem to be hanging on. I just couldn't, they snapped a grid so I can't actually move them freely. I don't mind walking on water. They are walking on water. Thank you very much. It is their turn first and they are going to, the ship's going to move
00:24:56
Speaker
And they're going to get the ship that's on the starboard side is going to get to the kind of the back side of the ship there. So the back kind of starboard side of the ship. The port ship is going to do the same thing, but they are going to burn the port.
00:25:16
Speaker
action and they're going to row hell for leather up alongside the ship almost to the aft of the ship and they're looking to get some they've got you know this kind of pins between the bow of the ship
00:25:30
Speaker
Well, I said the aft. Yeah, the bow of the ship, so I'm trying to use the right terms and I keep getting them wrong. The port bow side of the ship, so that they've got kind of diagonal pincer movement between you. They understand that you two, you know, alpha and range at the back of the ship, so they're moving kind of away from you so they can actually board. But it actually means they can't board until the next turn. However, the people on the starboard side are able to, and they're going to climb up
00:25:54
Speaker
and we're going to get our pirate folk on. There are two melee pirates and one with a bow and arrow. The bow and arrow dude is in the middle. The two melee guys are either side. They've burned 15 feet of movement to get onto the ship, five feet. They've got a couple feet left. The first pirate is going to take a diagonal step to the back of the ship and be face to face with Alpha. He says, and he's going to try and grapple you, Alpha. So can you make a strength?
00:26:25
Speaker
If it's a grapple, athletics comes. You get to choose whether athletics or acrobatics, you get to choose. Okay. I shall pick athletics.
00:26:36
Speaker
Come on, roll well. 18. Oh, God, that was so loud. OK. Sorry. No worries. He rolled an 11. So the grapple fails. He tries to kind of pull you under control, but you just knock his hands off and away from you. And he takes half a step back, surprised by the strength you've just shown him. The other two characters, the first one is going to the other melee pirate to the right. It's going to head down the steps.
00:27:02
Speaker
and head towards Emron and the hatch. This boat is kind of broken down to three major sections just for information. After the ship we're on the lowest part of the deck.
00:27:13
Speaker
the main bulk of the deck in the central portion, and then, no, sorry, the aft of the ship is the highest part of the deck, and then it drops down a little bit to the central portion, and then picks up again at the aft of the ship. So it's kind of three sections with two sets of stairs at either side of the ship with a wooden wall that's about 10 feet tall on between. So it's kind of splitting these sections up ever so slightly. So to get down, either you can jump down and bend the 10 feet, or you can take the step to another side.
00:27:40
Speaker
at the archer is going to look around from side to side and the closest person he can see that might be worth taking out is going to be Reins and he's going to poke his head round the barrels but not far enough to get a full line of sight so you're going to get cover for this and I'm going to say three quarters cover because of the angle he's got he doesn't want to get much closer to you at this point he's very aware of what you guys might be and what what you are and he's going to take a pot shot
00:28:08
Speaker
14 against your ammo class, but you get a plus five. Yeah, with the plus five that misses.
00:28:14
Speaker
Okay, and it's going to thud into the barrel near your head, making you kind of jolt back slightly, but it does not make contact with you. The other people, the other pirates, they can't move yet because they've kind of burnt through their kind of action to absolutely smash it on the rowing machine if you were to really pull alongside the boat. And so they're still kind of rowing their arse off, kind of recovering from that. And that is the end of their turn. Alpha, you've got a pirate in your face. What would you want to do?
00:28:42
Speaker
This is the first fight that Alpha has ever been in. Real, proper, kind of dangerous situation. And in all fairness, his adventure books run through his head. And he just kind of thinks, what do heroes do in this situation?
00:29:00
Speaker
they save the people so despite there being somebody directly in front of them he's seen this one person that's heading towards like the front of the ship where the route insta gets down to all the sailors and the captain and whatnot and he's gonna withdraw his pistol and fire at that guy but he's gonna
00:29:18
Speaker
to kind of make it look like he's aiming at the one in front of him instead, just to give him a little bit of fear as well. You won't be able to see him, unfortunately, because that central portion of the deck is sunken down. You're on a heightened part, so you can't actually see that guy. You can see the guy directly in front of you and the archer to your right and to your left directly, 10 feet to your left, you can see Rains. You can't see that guy because he's kind of, he's gone down some steps and it's kind of on a lower level now. Sorry. Okay, he would be dropped down then, fair enough. Okay.
00:29:49
Speaker
Yeah, question for the rules. Can I barge past people? I mean, you can you've got space to step you can you can there's an action you can like, decide to push through people. But I think that's an action. Or you can step around him because there is space for you to move because you can move diagonally. So you can't move through and without taking an action, but you can move around him. And as long as you don't leave his range, you don't provoke a tax opportunity.
00:30:18
Speaker
In all fairness, I don't know. Alpha goes by books for how he should act at this particular moment in time. So yeah, Alpha's basically going to run around this guy. He's going to provoke an opportunity attack. He's going to kind of just come up to the ledge where this person is headed to near Emron in the center of the ship. And I'm going to attempt to shoot him instead. He might provoke too, because you'll actually leave. You will. Two peoples.
00:30:45
Speaker
If it's two, it's two. Alpha doesn't think... The pirate swings... I'm probably going to regret this choice. As you duck and weave round, the pirate swings round at you, rolling a seven plus two, so that's a nine against your armor class. Ooh, that mission, so it clings off my armor. I'm assuming... I haven't played these in a while, but if we're running a ranged character, it's a disadvantage because it's... Disadvantaged when they range.
00:31:08
Speaker
19 or a six so I'm gonna unfortunately have to say the six that's eight against your armor class and that misses as well so as you duck under actually I do imagine you duck I think you literally just walk and he's half not expected so he swings thinking you will dodge it but you don't and he just acts

Alpha's Combat Luck and Contributions

00:31:24
Speaker
he assumes you would dodge it but because you don't he assumes where you would be that you're not there because he thinks you're smart he thinks you would have done the thing that everyone would have done and that really furrows his brows what and as you just literally walk past him the guy loads his crossbow looking very confused as you turn his you're back to him he lines up his shot and looks to the pirate fellow
00:31:43
Speaker
hell's going on and shoots but he doesn't really pay attention thinking this is too easy and thinking the arrow kind of thuds into the main mast of the of the ship both now very confused as you just literally kind of oh I'm gonna go over there and you've just walked over to the central portion of the ship avoiding two attacks of opportunity you lucky devil you're now looking down 10 feet and about 10 feet in front of you and down so about 15 feet away from you you can see a pirate boring down on Emron boring down on the entrance to the to the to the lower decks of your ship
00:32:14
Speaker
Yep, and with that, I realise I'm like 10 foot away from this guy, so I'm going to be rolling at disadvantage, but he's just going to take out his pistol. No, you're outside of melee range, so it's not a disadvantage. No, you're fine. No, I'm going to shoot the guy anyway. Yeah, you're fine. I'm used to using magic. All this range stuff is bizarre. Sorry to interrupt you. No, I don't mind that. I don't mind when you're taking away a disadvantage I was giving upon myself. No, no, you're fine. You're fine. You're fine.
00:32:45
Speaker
19 to hit. That does hit. Imagine if I said it didn't. I've been petrified. I rolled a 16 on that one anyway. I'm going full fee on Greyjoy. I'm just jumping off the edge of this boat. I like it. He will take six points of piercing damage. Oh nice. My pistol just gets withdrawn and bush.
00:33:09
Speaker
I shoot him straight on the side of his face. The shot comes smashing in, it catches his cheek as you say and thuds kind of a really awkward angle into the side, kind of the edge of his chest, more into his shoulder and then through his arm as well as the shot rings out and all three of the of the kind of brigands on board duck slightly not knowing what that noise was and how this weird person just created that noise from a small contraption at the end of his hand. Is there anything else you want to do, Colin?
00:33:38
Speaker
Um, I would just like to quickly ask on something else. Um, this is, this is more out of game than anything else. It's a rules thing. So this is more approaching, but the will, um, do I need to use my next turn to reload? No, no, no, no. The whole idea is you basically, it stops you from multi the whole reload thing stops you from multi-attacking.
00:34:02
Speaker
Yeah, fine. I just wanted to go check. It loads between rounds. It loads between rounds. It's like knocking an arrow on a bow or knocking an arrow in a bolt in a crossbow. We assume that happens during the turn anyway. On a meta level, the stuff that needs the loading is normally particularly good for rogues because they only get one attack per turn. Yeah, exactly.
00:34:20
Speaker
No, that's fine. All I'm going to do then, that's all I'm going to do. Lovely, thank you very much Alpha for that turn. Emron, you've just seen this pirate head down the stairs and walk either towards you or to the entrance of the deck and then you've been shot in a really awkward kind of downward angle from a rather stoic looking Alpha, which you've never really seen him do before. What do you have to do?
00:34:42
Speaker
I'm assuming that the hatch down is like you can flip over the hatch and it will seal it up with wood. Is the hatch currently closed? It is currently closed. It's two separate pieces that slam down in the middle and then a bar has been put in underneath, a wooden bar has been put in underneath to blockade it. I'm assuming they're load bearing, yeah?
00:35:05
Speaker
Yeah. So everyone's going to sort of step over onto the top of this hatch now, sort of approaching the man and he sort of hefts his hammer in his hands and he sort of rolls his neck and goes, well, that Alito is about to have a good chat with you and I'm going to swing my hammer at this man's face. Do it.
00:35:35
Speaker
Go on. Well, it's a hit. You can picture this in slow motion. No. It's good. It's an unnatural 20. Oh yeah. That hits. You're very pleased to know. And this man will take...
00:35:53
Speaker
maximum damage. 11 points of bludgeoning damage. Talk about overkill, man. Are you a swing-a-dice, swing-a-cross, swing-up? Flying with your good ten foot across the ship. I think he's sort of swinging it upwards like an uppercut kind of thing.
00:36:09
Speaker
I'm going to say this might be a fun thing just to add. When you roll max damage with your hammer, I think it makes sense because you're a big lad and it's a big hammer. It makes sense that there's a movement as well. Even if you don't kill it, I think we might move them a little bit. I'll have a think about that.
00:36:25
Speaker
a little rule for that. But anyway, for now, I think if you roll max damage, yeah, he's dead, he's beyond dead, and his corpse plops into the ocean off 10 feet away as you go up and go, he does kind of slow motion, his jaw shuts up as you see his eyes roll back in his head, his blood pours down his face, the bullet wound continues to eek, and he hits the side of the deck and then just kind of slips over the side, hitting the ocean below. He is dead. You've killed your first person, hope you feel good about yourselves.
00:36:55
Speaker
Yeah. He had a family. No. Anything else you want to do, Emeron? You stood there, you just totally cleared this guy out. That was amazing. He's going to stand there and be like, and sort of do a quick twirl with it with, spin it in his hand, sort of shakes off any blood on it.
00:37:11
Speaker
and just look to the next one. Nice. That is awesome. Thank you very much, everyone, for that. Rains, you've got a pirate that was not going to come near you given where Alpha was. You've got a pirate near you and you've got an archer who has just fired an arrow into the barrels really close next to you. You're after the ship, kind of burrowed into a corner behind some barrels. What do you want to do?
00:37:32
Speaker
I'm going to look at the pirate who is currently looking at me and I'm just going to go, how there? And I'm just going to start sprinting away from him. Nice. I'm going to get two.
00:37:48
Speaker
Let me get back in front of my microphone. I'm going to get to the bottom of the steps, and all of a sudden, I'm going to see the other bolt coming. And I'm going, oh, this is not a fun day. I'm going to take another crossbow bolt, and I'm going to drop it again and go, work this time, Daniel, as I punch the wrist guard, the transmutation orb glows again. And the crossbow bolt drops downwards, and he's just going to take off firstly towards the second
00:38:18
Speaker
guy on the boat and if it misses him it's going to go towards the third guys there in the line. Gotcha. The more northern guys so it lines up with the archer behind him. That is correct. Cool. Okay. Roll to hit. It's dexterity saving for all from... Oh, shit. Yeah, sorry. It's a cantrip. It's a spell. It's the first level spell. Oh, it's a spell. Sorry.
00:38:36
Speaker
Oh my god, I'm really sorry, Dan. This has not been planned. They have a deck save plus one, and I rolled a 12 on both of them. And I know your pass is nothing. Bullshit. I swear to all. I swear to Akiva. I swear to Akiva. How are you holding up a dice? It says 12. Well, look, there's a natural 20. Yeah, that's a natural one. Genuinely, that was a genuine roll. I would not fudge them. I would not fudge them. I'd let you hit them. Hey, Darren, how are those spell slots there?
00:39:00
Speaker
Gone. They're gone. That's what I've happened to them. I'm really sorry. I'm really sorry. I'm on 12 with all three of those now. Well, listeners, to hear what damage Catapult does, you're going to have to tune in next time, if I survive. As that happens, I'm just going to turn the camera on. We've got some friends up there and we've got some friends down there and I ain't doing so good.
00:39:21
Speaker
Nice. Thank you very much. And with that, your friends up there are going to take their movement and get up onto the ship in the same fashion, burning 15 feet of movement to get themselves in position, giving them 15 feet to play with.
00:39:37
Speaker
One of the pirates that's the furthest to the aft of the ship is going to make a beeline across the ship to try and get to the opposite side of where Emron and Rains are currently stood. The other pirate is going to step down the steps close to Emron and he's going to walk towards him.
00:39:54
Speaker
The archer is gonna stay on the steps on the higher part of the ship, looking down and across and around to see what's going on. The archer will do those attacks first, then I'll move across to the Alpha situation over there. So firstly, the archer is gonna take a shot at the first person. He can see down the steps, which is going to be Rains. 15 against your armor class. Am I still under any form of partial cover?
00:40:23
Speaker
Unfortunately, the cannons that are on our lovely Royal Trumpeting map don't actually exist, so no, this is going to be a straight clean shot. That's going to be two points of piercing damage as the arrow cuts through, getting you in the shoulder, your left shoulder, as you kind of look out towards Emron. The pirate that's currently ranged with you, Emron, is going to roll to hit you.
00:40:46
Speaker
15, 16 against your armor class. Oh, meets it beats. Man, that's going to be three points of slashing damage. As I think you're still going to clean the blood off as the shot comes in your kind of shoulder blade. I won't really expect that catching the armor doing a bit of damage. But you know, you're still you're still fully functioning at this point. Moving to the after the ship.
00:41:07
Speaker
Yes, I refer to them as the wrong one, bugger. The two perplexed pirates that watched Alpha walk away are going to just circle around and the pirate's gonna come up alongside you and the archer's gonna back away and just kind of survey the scene a little bit. The pirate's gonna take a swing at you. Shit, four.
00:41:31
Speaker
miss. And then he's going to look back to his friend like, I have imagined he swings, you're not even looking at him, he swings out of the neck and you just whoop, you just duck your head down and he misses. Yeah, I think it's literally I've gone like, and duck down just as like an arrow goes into Reigns thing and just time so well the sword just goes straight over me. Absolutely. The archers have another, knocks a bow and pulls it back. Oh, sorry, that's going to be a 21 against your armor class.
00:41:56
Speaker
Yeah, that hits. I can't. Three points. You can't forge that. Three points of piercing damage. Suddenly you feel something. You feel something new. You feel this sensation that others refer to as pain. That is the end of the pirate's turn. We go round to Alpha, your retort. You have a pirate to your north exactly near you. And behind you, about 15 feet away, you have the archer that fired an arrow in your back.
00:42:24
Speaker
Yep, so Alfred is going to kind of reach behind, he's felt this sensation in his back and he's going to like, at the arrow, look at it for a brief moment, turn round and go,
00:42:35
Speaker
Right, now I understand. And replicating Reigns, he's just going to drop the arrow slightly on the floor.

Alpha's Catapult Spell Success

00:42:43
Speaker
And then just before it hits the ground, he's going to cast Catapult on it, so it flings straight to the back of the ship towards the archer that shot at him in the first place. That's a six for the dexterity saving throw. It fails! Sorry, Darren. Fuck you. Good for you, Callum.
00:43:03
Speaker
Yeah. 16 points of bludgeoning damage. 3d8. 3d8 at the level 1 spell. 3d8! Wow, very nice. Well, I'm kind of glad you missed the first few because you'd have taken out half the fight, Darren. Well, I could only hit one of them. It wouldn't carry on until the next one if it hits the first one. Gotcha.
00:43:21
Speaker
This arrow, well, it doesn't even hit like an arrow would, it just kind of hits side on, so like instead of hitting straight through, it just kind of hits side on this broken arrow, but it hits with such a weird velocity that it catches him in the throat, and as it catches him in the neck, he topples over the back of the ship, and you can hear his esophagus crush as he topples off into the ocean. That archer is dead. Anything else you want to do, Alpha?
00:43:46
Speaker
I was going to think to myself and go, hmm, maybe next time I should use the pointy end. And then that's all I'm going to do. Lovely. Thank you very much for that, Alfa. Emron, you've got someone who's just struck at your back, a little annoying rat of a man behind you with buck teeth and rotting flat, not rotting flat, rotting yellowed teeth as he looks at you.
00:44:08
Speaker
And one's going to sort of turn his large bulk at this, almost out of annoyance, and his eyes are going to suddenly have this fire in them, and he's going to all of a sudden raise his hammer above his head.
00:44:24
Speaker
and cry, Alito, take your scum. And I'm going to use my bonus action to cast searing smite. Nice. So all of a sudden the head of the hammer, all of a sudden just bursts into flames. And then I'm going to swing it down at this poor wretch of a pirate. Do it. Poor wretch of a pirate. Come on, Will.
00:44:53
Speaker
Let's get rid of that already. I love this character That's another This is like Ian last week in rolled just so well and Danny I rode so well on everything it made everything easy, but perception checks of like 24 It was insane and yes that hits of course it does
00:45:13
Speaker
Right, so it's going to do, all of a sudden, let me tell you what happens first. So as the fire hits this man, he takes three points of fire damage.
00:45:30
Speaker
He will also take four points of bludgeoning damage. He now needs to, on the start of each of his turns, he needs to take a constitution saving throw. If he fails, he takes another 1d6 of fire damage because he's now on fire.
00:45:53
Speaker
As my hammer hits him, all of a sudden there's this burst of flames and the flames are no longer on the hammer anymore. They're on the man. So yeah, so he's now on fire. Great way to keep fire off a wooden ship, I just have to say right now. It's the person. It's fine. Shush. He's now on fire.
00:46:11
Speaker
So, yeah. So at the start of his turn, he rolls Constitution. If he fails, one, two, six, a fire damage. Yeah. If he's successful, it goes out or someone near him can help put out the fires. Okie dokie. Well, he is on his lonesome pretty much. So, yeah, cool. OK, that's a horrific image to imagine. Amazing. Thank you so much. Anything else you want to do, Emron?
00:46:30
Speaker
No, I'm just going to look at this man as he burns. Amazing. Ooh. Dark. Rains, you've been shot in the arm with an arrow. Ow. You can see the archer directly to your left about 15 feet away. You can see really close to you and the two other pirates that are currently in combat with both Alpha up on the ledge and also with Emerald in the center. The one with Emerald is currently on fire. What would you like to do?
00:46:56
Speaker
Okay, Rains is gonna just... Okay, right, fine. We're done. We're done with the sensible ideas. Let's go for the stupid ones. Hey, dipshit. Dodge this. And I'm gonna fire a fireball at the archer who is down the far end of the ship. Nice. Okay, roll to hit. 17 plus 5. That's gonna be a 22. Oh, yeah, that hits. Thank fuck for that. Right, 1d10.
00:47:26
Speaker
Five. Five points of fire damage. Nice. This fire bolt comes thudding into his chest and he's like... and he kind of manages to pat it out but he's like... like you see a big charred burn mark in the middle of his chest and he is kind of like stuttering on his feet with his bow and he's trying to hold an arrow and knock it but he's not doing a very good job of it. He is still up. Yeah, anything else you want to do? Any movement? Oh fuck. Nope, nope, nope. And I'm gonna run back up the stairs.
00:47:54
Speaker
I'm going to duck down on the corner. I was going to run around the corner, but then I'm going to see the pirate engage with Alpha and I'm going to go, nope, and then just duck down on the corner, helping just to get any form of partial cover from. I don't think Alpha has actually noticed this guy that's been trying to hit him yet. No, I love it. It's great. Okay. Lovely. Thank you very much, Darren. I'll just shout out the final thing. Alpha, you are aware that there is someone trying to hit you. Oh God, he can see me.
00:48:18
Speaker
Lovely. Will you be very pleased to know that the pirate that into contact with you rolled a five on his constitution saving throw? Would you like to add on a bit of fire damage? But yeah, I'll roll now.
00:48:33
Speaker
Go on Will, finish him off. He takes six points of fire damage and he thuds to the floor as his flesh burns and he is no longer of the mortal plane. He is a dead, he is a dead pirate, he is an ex-pirate. He is gone. There's no one out in the melee range with you anymore.
00:48:51
Speaker
I imagine, sorry, I'm just thinking the fires probably go out at some point because once the, yeah, I don't know, it's up to you, sorry. Well you'd be in range just to pat back that, I imagine it's not on the person anyway, the deck's quite, you're right, it's not like a big flame I think, it's just enough to snuff out his flame. So firstly we're going to start with a pirate that's in contact with Alpha, well he believes he's having a really awesome fight with Alpha but Alpha doesn't even know he's there.
00:49:17
Speaker
Nope, no idea. Fuck's sake, nine against your armor class. Miss. So he's going to stab out and just as, this is what happens, just as he stabs that he's standing right towards your face, but just as, um, just as rain shouts, you do realize someone's in combat. You turn your head at the last minute.
00:49:34
Speaker
And the kind of the scimitar he's holding just passes by, not scimitar, a short sword, just passes by your face as you look over his shoulder towards where Rains is currently stood. Again, you haven't moved. She's been by freak chance. These things have been happening. So he misses. The arrow, the bow and arrow man, my God, the archer is going to fire at Emron.
00:49:58
Speaker
Sixteen against your armor class. Meets your beats. Fourteen plus two. That is two points of piercing damage as that shot comes thudding in. Finally, the pirate that's been kind of bobbing around the edges so far is going to come hurtling round the other set of stairs away from you and come running in towards you. Everyone is going to take a big old swim with the short sword at your face.
00:50:21
Speaker
That's a seven against your armor class. That misses. Okay, that is all they can do. Let me just have a quick check of morale. Okay, that's going to be fun. Cool. That is the end of their turn. However, a few things are going to happen with a bit of movement. Firstly, the pirate that's engaged with Alpha isn't having any fun. He thinks you're some kind of immortal being that he can't hit. He's going to move towards the edge of the ship, trying to get on his ship.
00:50:51
Speaker
The archer is going to just take that shot and then he's going to use 15 feet of movement and then a few more feet to get down onto his ship because he is getting the frig out of there. The final pirate has unfortunately used all this movement and well, he has a couple feet left. He's going to shimmy up onto the great next to you, Emron, and that is the end of their turn. Yes, over to Alpha.
00:51:18
Speaker
What do you have to do? So as Raines has shouted that and I myself kind of looked over the shoulder from the actual pirate, and I imagine Alpha just kind of as a quick turn left and right, doesn't see anybody in the near vicinity, but just seen the person that Raines has tried to hit jump off the ship to try and get back down to his boat. So he's going to be like, ah, okay, yes, I can do this. And I'm going to move towards the left side of the ship and I'm going to look down over words at the
00:51:48
Speaker
where this guy has jumped onto his boat, and I'm going to try and take a shot at him. But I'm going to say basically exactly what Rainson said as well. But in my own way, he's like, hey, mid-sack, dodge this. Don't forget, you take an attack of opportunity because you're leaving another creature's combat range. Yeah, it's fine. I don't even know who's there. That's an unnatural 20. Oh, well, that hits. You take five points of slashing damage. That's max damage. Yeah.
00:52:17
Speaker
And now you can keep moving. Now you can keep moving. Okay, so you can move into position there and you're going to move over to that place there. Cool. And then right next to Rains and do you want to roll your attack? I will. Come on, come on, come on. Oh, it's another 19. Nice. That hits. Love it. And you will take
00:52:39
Speaker
Again, I've tried six points of piercing damage with my pistol. The pistol shot hits and bangs square between the eyes and he slumps back into the boat and he is dead. Nice shooting alpha. Boom. Good stuff.

Emron's Intimidating Presence

00:52:54
Speaker
Lovely. I'm just going to turn to rain and say, hey, it worked.
00:52:58
Speaker
Very nice. Emron, you just hear this crack of the pistol shoot off over your shoulder as Alpha takes a shot at someone. We have a pirate currently engaged with you stood on the doors to the deck of the ship. So, Emron's going to sort of turn and look at this man and he's going to wipe a double of blood that's just at the corner of Emron's mouth because he's taking a bit of damage. And he's going to look and he's going to heft his hammer and he's going to lean towards the man and go,
00:53:26
Speaker
This is the part where you fuck off. And I'm going to ready an action. If this man moves makes to attack me, I'm going to hit him first. I love this guy so much. Amazing. OK, thank you very much, everyone. Reigns, you see this pirate directly in front of you who was in contact with Alpha. He starts kind of moving away, getting a cheeky hit in as Alpha moved away from him.
00:53:52
Speaker
but it's heading towards where you know his boat is looking for a hasty getaway. And you can also see the one that is currently engaged with Emeron as well. What would you like to do? I'm going to look confused at Alpha and I'm going to go, Alpha, he is still there. And I'm going to take a shot at him myself with a fireball.
00:54:11
Speaker
Okay. Natural 20. Oh yeah. Here we go. Here we go. First one. Oh yeah. Boom. I don't know this guys. It's not technically episode one, but we'll treat it. It was the first one of the prologues anyway, I think. It's 2d10 then.
00:54:27
Speaker
Oh, 7 and 6. Oh, my God. That is... Here comes the Stabacus. That guy has had zero damage. 7 and 6 is 13. 13, there it is. It's 13 points of fire damage. The fireball thuds into the back of his head and he stops reaching and then his body just slumps down against the side of the ship, kind of face first against the wall around the edge of the ship there. He is also smitten from this realm. His little pirate children will not expect him home tonight.
00:54:56
Speaker
slightly frightened of my own abilities. Never mind, I got him. Nice. Any movement there, Rains, or are you happy where you are? I'm just going to peer over the top of the ship. Emeron, are you okay? Lovely. It's the pirate's turn. The pirate is going to look and look very confused at your comment, Emeron, and he's going to look around a little bit, and he's going to go
00:55:29
Speaker
wait i can explain everything then start talking lad he slowly lowers his short sword and puts it on the floor hands up it started like this a few months ago we got given some information about a bounty
00:55:57
Speaker
And he read something like this.

Discovering a Bounty

00:55:59
Speaker
And he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a note. He's shaking a little bit at this point. Unfels this quite small note on what looks like relatively good paper, given that paper is in short supply in some parts of the world. Unravels it. Bring the haddow boy unharmed. Kill his companion. And he kind of glances up to you at that.
00:56:24
Speaker
Bring the Knucklevalo alive or dead, but his head must be intact. There is 20,000 gold pieces waiting in my stores if you succeed. Fail and never return to Shadow Mend. More will follow if you fail." And at that he just kind of hands the note over to you, Enron. And who's it from?
00:56:49
Speaker
It doesn't say on the note. So when you say 20,000 gold, how are you supposed to collect it if you don't know where it's from? We have a buyer, someone we sell our wares to.

He must have a name. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Are we are we out of initiative at this? Yes. Yeah, it's kind of full out. Hello. Hi. I believe I'm the head old boy that you're looking for. I wasn't going to introduce you just in case you didn't know you were. And then you could leave. I think I knew it was anywhere from he ain't going to confuse us for another pair of people would travel around. It's going to come down as well and quite joyfully greet the gentleman and shake his hand. Hello there.
00:57:32
Speaker
There's the, there's the, that's what you're after. Now, please call me out. He's very confused at this. Sorry, just a quick, quick question to Mark. Is there also another boat following us as well?
00:57:50
Speaker
You haven't checked, actually. You haven't checked. Okay. If you went back and perception checked it, then you can... That's a fact, because there was one to start with. You just don't know that there was one there. Okay, that's fine. There was one there following along. That's fine. There were two smaller rowing boats and then there was the... Just to show you some knowledge, that's fine. Yeah. Right. So, as much as we could sit here and chitchat with this fellow guys, how many more of your mates are going to come over here?
00:58:18
Speaker
if you don't go back. We've only got, well, there's only four more of us if I go. So if I'm alive in five, there's any lesson, we can't crew our ship. So none of us. How many more people are on your boat? Four. All right. So get a look to her to reigns. What now then?
00:58:48
Speaker
And Ron, you're a man of the world. What happens if we let this guy leave? Well, from my limited experience of streets, I would imagine he goes back to his boat. They tell whoever is with them, they perhaps tell someone where we're going. Because I imagine they've followed us. So they now know our destination. And we might bring worse things down on us.
00:59:18
Speaker
It would be difficult. Now, the note does say that if they don't succeed, they should never go back, but that doesn't stop them from telling others where we've gone. All right. I think I know how to deal with this. What's your name? My friends call me... Why?
00:59:42
Speaker
Well, you see, I have no qualms killing a man with well a name, but if I know a name and we start to get all our personal, I might feel a little more inclined to not end your life. Oh, it's Stalford. Stalford then. If that helps you not kill me, it's Stalford. If he telling the truth, if he telling the truth, I'm going to glance to both Alpha and... Insight check. Okay. I got 21. Yeah, he's telling the truth.
01:00:09
Speaker
Everyone's going to nod. Well Stafford, I'm going to propose that you do something really, really sensible with your life from this point onwards. And it begins with getting in that little rowing boat. Now you're going to have to roll back over there without your friends because they're dead. But what you're going to do when you get on that boat is you're going to go tell your friends that
01:00:32
Speaker
You failed. You didn't get us. And that returning to Shadow Man is a very dumb idea.

Captured Pirate's Warning

01:00:39
Speaker
Because if Sariah Missful and her lovely band of water genasi, very friendlier,
01:00:47
Speaker
Entrepreneurs of the Depths of D'Artona don't get their hands on you. You're gonna end up in the Shadowlands. Shadowman lanes, I should say, which is gonna take you back down the Great Haddo, where my granddaddy, who I suspect is the person who has sent you, is gonna be very unhappy with you. So what I suggest you do, is you get on that boat, you fuck off to that ember scar area over there, what these people call it, or you fuck off to that dibak, or whatever the hell that land is called over there,
01:01:16
Speaker
and you do not come back. If you do come back, my friend, Emron here, is gonna introduce you to the final point of his hammer. Are we clear with each other? Very clear. Now fuck off. He's gonna, not even try, he goes to half, go down to pick up his short sword, once twice, leaves it, and then just starts running to the northern boat, jumps on it. Hold on, hold on a second, one second, one second. He's grabbing a hold of it, yep, he pulls himself back up, he's like,
01:01:45
Speaker
Alpha, please make a specific memory recording to kill this man if we ever see him again. And Alpha's just going to turn, pause for a moment. Memory recorded. Face recognized. Now you can continue about your fucking half. His eyes go wide at that comment and just drops from the side of the boat into the side of it and you just hear this
01:02:08
Speaker
Then after a while you see the figure start to row off. As you look back towards where his ship was, you actually notice that the ship has started to tack its course and was turning around anyway, whether he was alive or not. So he has a bit of a mission on his hands to actually get on it. Just as a way of rowing away, Alfred's probably just going to get to the back of the ship and go, I hear Dralak is lovely at this time of year. It's not Dralak. It's Dralak. That's right. That's right.
01:02:35
Speaker
And he starts throwing off. And as you watch that, the doors to the deck of the boat open up and the crew start coming out and start looking around surveying the corpses that are strewn around the place. I think there's only one corpse. All the other bodies fell off the boat. Oh, yeah, it did.
01:02:51
Speaker
Well no, there's one up by the other boat, but the one at the back fell off, I back flipped another one off and the archer died on the other boat, so there's only two bodies on this deck. That's true, there's only the two, there's only the two. So, but upon them... Sorry. No, not a problem, not a problem. They start kind of going through the bodies and eventually the crew, our little friend, Taro. Taro?
01:03:13
Speaker
Taro comes over after just looting the bodies for you actually and hands over to you, Emeron. He hands over 19 copper pieces. He holds up the two short swords and two daggers that they've pulled off the bodies. There's also, they've taken off one set of leather armour as well and he hands a note over to you and as you unfurl it, am I right in thinking that Emeron can't read?
01:03:40
Speaker
everyone has a limited grasp of reading you imagine that he sort of he can read he does obviously he said that he couldn't read but obviously he'd have a rudimentary education but he doesn't read well okay but basically the note is relatively straightforward the note anyway it's exactly the same as the note that the the Stafford has just read you it's exactly the same one so multiple multiples of these people have the same note given to him
01:04:09
Speaker
Reigns, you can have that. I understand. There's 20,000 there. I know my numbers. There's only two people in Shadow Mands who have that sort of money. One is my grandfather, who I normally attribute all the terrible things in my life to. The other one is that fat, slammy bastard Drezlin. Now, both probably want me dead. So I don't know who sent this, but it probably means that
01:04:35
Speaker
We need to be extra careful and assume that more are coming. That's quite a bounty. Well, what we need to hope is that these fellows just followed us from shadow men. So any others might not exactly know where we're getting off this boat. Hopefully. Unless they've been following us for quite some time. Yes, but entirely plausible. So hopefully if they don't tell any others, which, you know, they probably will.
01:05:04
Speaker
then we might have to deal with that another day. But at least we know, and we probably did, that for certain that they are following us, so at least we can be a bit more wary. Imran, can I take a moment just to say how fucking awesome it was when you hit that guy with that hammer, like literally he went flying. That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. And Alpha, what the hell was up with that? That guy was literally trying to kill you and you just didn't even know he was there.
01:05:29
Speaker
We try to do something about your peripheral senses because I had no idea what the fuck was going on there. We might need to work on turning your head. I'm still unsure as to what guy you are referring to. I believe that all that I engaged in combat were killed. Is that not correct? You know, in your stories, it probably don't mention this, but it's called being aware of your surroundings. So, yeah.
01:05:58
Speaker
A bit more of that lad would be great. I shall endeavor to accomplish this. I do have to admit that your catapult thing is working a little bit better than mine and I'm going to go into my bag and take out a puzzle cube and I'm just going to chuck it to Alpha and go, can you put your diagnostics into that because mine was way off. So at this point,
01:06:25
Speaker
While you're doing that, sorry, everyone's just going to be looking at the gear, but I'll just say you know what you're doing with that, sorry.
01:06:32
Speaker
I will just ask as well, diagnostic on a puzzle cube, what on earth are you asking me to do? He's asking you to role play. No, I'm asking you to role play. What is that thing we get at level one? I can't remember its official word where we can... It's the death. And you can put like a basic text or some form of image onto an inanimate object. That's what I'm asking you to do. I'm asking you to be an artificer.
01:06:58
Speaker
Alpha, that's what I'm asking you to do. I don't know if you wanted anything specific in it or anything like that. This is role play. This is this is awful role play. So yeah, he's gonna take this like puzzle cube then and just kind of examine it for a little bit and he's just gonna
01:07:15
Speaker
look around for a brief moment because he's going to use his magic or tinkering and he's going to see like a pulse emanate from his chest that's going to pulse down through his arm and just extend into one of his fingers as he touches the puzzle cube. And he's going to hand it back over to Reigns. Much obliged Alpha.
01:07:35
Speaker
And as you start to kind of recover from the combat you've just faced and you pass across that information that is so necessary moving forward.

Approaching Goldview - Journey's End

01:07:42
Speaker
And now with this new information of a force that is behind you, a dark shadow that seems to follow you from your lands of the Shadow Men over into the lands of Sleepguard, you hear
01:07:54
Speaker
The shout of Taro again as he's crawled back up into the crow's nest and this time he's gesticulating in squawks and points forward, points to the front of the ship with a big smile on his face. As you turn and look, as the sun slowly begins to set behind you, and the light hits just as Hag bastard mentioned,
01:08:13
Speaker
You see the city of Goldview on the horizon, shining like a beacon of hope and light in an otherwise dreary and dark world. Hag bastard comes over and mentions to you that it should be two hours before they reach the docks. And then the city of Goldview awaits.
01:08:49
Speaker
It's great. Being back at level one is always great fun. Obviously, next week, that is going to be our episode one, our official episode one. The last three have been obviously our prologue episodes. I hope you've enjoyed them. But next week is our proper episode one when we bring the party together and see what happens. Try and gold view. Where everyone basically punches everybody. Only if they deserve it.
01:08:57
Speaker
And that's where we're going to leave it for this week's episode of the Fellowship of the Tabletop.
01:09:12
Speaker
Absolutely. So it's going to be a really, really great episode. You definitely don't want to miss that one. So make sure you tune in next week for that. Apart from that, thank you guys for being awesome. That was lovely to get a bit of combat in there. And I think I worked quite well. A bit damaged on all parts. And I'm really excited to see where this story takes us and where your characters go. So that's really great stuff. What does Ian say? Can I do it? Can I do it? In fact, I've done it twice and I've fucked it up twice in the Christmas one shot. So here we go.
01:09:39
