Introduction of Players and D&D Adventure
00:00:28
Speaker
Hello and welcome to this week's episode of the Fellowship of the Tabletop. My name is Mark, I'm your DM for today and all days.
00:00:35
Speaker
the table I've got four players with us that will be taking part in this adventure and I'll just quickly do a quick introduction through. We've got Ian first of all, hello Ian. What up? Ian playing Drago the Dragonborn. Next we've got Darren who plays Robin, finally got that right. Good evening. I wasn't sure who that was, that could have been Drago, that could have been Robin, that could have been Darren. Darren's very polite you see, he could be like that. We've got a freshly shaved head. Freshly shaved and down to my sideburns. Well I bought a new hair clip by the way, not that you all care about that but yeah. Fan art though.

sponsored by... Babylist or Babylist? Babylist, it is a Babylist. Did you say Babylist? He said Babylist. Well, is it Babylist or Babylist? I like Babylist because your head looks like a baby. I'm going to make it more bolder because of it. Bolder? Bolder? Welcome to today's sub episode. Bolder for men.
00:01:23
Speaker
That took us about two minutes to get on track. I should point out that out of a group of plus-thirties, I am the only one who has lost his hair. Whoa, whoa, plus-thirties. I am. Which is 30 plus. You are over 30. You are no longer 30. You're in your 30s, dear.
00:01:43
Speaker
Okay, your DM's having an existential crisis. If you are an ex-facte, you're in the mature area. I mean, you can now grow your beard out. No, I still can't. Your VT is like, I'm in the last chance to lose.
00:01:56
Speaker
Thanks guys. Are you the youngest here? So don't feel too funny. Yeah, fuck you all. I don't know what I was going to say there. Actually, next up we've got a world he plays, Elphir. I will. Hello, I play the oldest character in the party, but I'm not the oldest character. There you go. And next, finally, actually, we've got Callum, who plays... Shut up. I think what I was saying in my head. I just googled over it because it's world distraction. Fuck off. We have got Callum, who plays Shengar, our dwarf.
00:02:26
Speaker
Greetings adventurers. And we are about to jump into our next, our third episode of this D&D campaign. So could anyone please roll the thing to ID to see who's going to do our quick recap on what's happening so far. So I'll go around the table. Ian, what did you get? I got 15. 15, thank you very much. Darren? 13. So I'll go to 30 then. I was like wow.
00:02:51
Speaker
I forgot how this works, it's at the highest. The lowest number does it unless you get 20. It's very possible that you might have got... I got a 10. It's so middle of the road. I got an 18 so I'm alright as well. So Will, I know you've had this planned, it's taken you hours to plan this.
00:03:11
Speaker
This recap is quite a lot of my page. So we woke up in the Cots and Preys. We had an alright night's sleep. The cover we'd made wasn't perfect but it was better than nothing. The party then decided to acquiesce to the old man's wishes and survive the wilderness for three days. The party made the decision and then Drago made his decision. So the party headed northeast towards a ruin that we could see in the distance.
Recap of Last Session's Encounter
00:03:38
Speaker
We traveled about a day and we encountered the ruin and we found
00:03:42
Speaker
Elphard, being as old as he was, recognised his mammoth and knew that you don't see them very often now in the Sword Coast and where they are, it's just seen once, this is very weird, so in this new world, maybe mammoths are more popular. Kind of fought the mammoth but didn't, we tried to scare the mammoth away, we did that, everyone was quite happy, I think, you know, Shader was trying to do something to the mammoth.
00:04:06
Speaker
home I wanted a new pet so yeah so that was that was the party meanwhile on the drago show he was trudging sort of like in this kind of like montage of him just falling input I might he stepped in a puddle went up to his knee I like to think of it like the ending part of Final Fantasy 8 when squall is alone trying to find his way back he's very downtrodden shoulders down
00:04:33
Speaker
Basically, looking at his tail just dragging in the mud. And then he reaches this old man. The old man that encountered the party earlier and who then they had a confrontation. The old man said, you need to do this, I trust you. Drag the word, yeah, but I'm a dragonborn, I'm a bit of a knob, so I'm going to kill you unless you're telling me. And essentially... That was the subtext of what dragged it.
00:04:56
Speaker
Cool, I'm glad that was rich. And so how that episode ended was Drago saying, if you tell me where your home is, or I'm going to kill you, and the man looking up, taking a breath in. And we started, and all of that was from two lines of notes.
00:05:12
Speaker
Well you're excellent at winging it. That's all I can say. Thank you very much Will for that update. So yes indeed. We're going to pick up where we left off there just to see what's going to happen there. So if you can just picture where we are. We're kind of on the coast of this war, we're kind of war, weather ravaged island. The black rocks. I imagine the camera panning over the tumultuous ocean.
00:05:39
Speaker
kind of hammering down almost horizontal across this this kind of small weathered island and just up on the clifffront up on some kind of mossy covered ground where there seems to be some kind of walked and weathered path is this old man sat on the ground cross-legged with a kind of brown poncho a white beard kind of drenched through but looking quite comfortable
Drago's Confrontation and Cryptic Advice
00:06:00
Speaker
in it. Next him's a small shaggy dog
00:06:04
Speaker
quite enjoying the reign as well actually and standing over them is this gargantuan dragonborn now currently wielding a two-handed greater than great sword almost like if you just took a cleaver on word and just grabbed the corners and just extended it out that seems to get off this shimmering blue glow as he stands over the man. The man
00:06:33
Speaker
looks up to Drago and has a sharp intake of breath. And he says, you take the path, young man, you must take. But know that on Edith, actions have consequences. And he looks down towards the ground, exposing his neck under his poncho to you. Drago, what do you want to do?
00:07:03
Speaker
Just so this one can know, Ian's just had his head in his hands, rubbing his face, trying to figure out what to do. Low rumble starts from the belly of Drago and it's a small rumble at first and it builds up over time and starts as his breath inhales and he takes a deep breath.
00:07:28
Speaker
And he lets out this massive dragon-born roar towards the old man, pure frustration at not being able to make the old man talk. And I need the old man to make a DC-13 wisdom saving throw, as I intend to use my breath weapon to scare the shit out of him. Okay, so this is... I'm gonna frighten him.
00:07:55
Speaker
It's not an attack, it's Dragon Fear. Dragon Fear is a nice ability for Dragonborn so that you can choose when you get to level 8 and you can expend a use of your breath weapon trait to roar, forcing each creature
00:08:14
Speaker
dog as well that can hear you or see you within 30 feet needs to make a wisdom saving throw DC 30 on a failure a target becomes frightened of you for one minute or until it takes damage
00:08:27
Speaker
okay so do you want to describe the as you've given us this so the roar builds up and uh out of pure flustration at um not being able to get answers from an old man um drago uh roars in his face and it's that kind of roar that the tifa open wide spit is coming out from the back of the throat and covering the dog and the um young old man okay
00:08:56
Speaker
The sea almost seems to retreat slightly when you realise you have no control over that. It's actually just the elements. But it's a feeling of kind of quiet for a millisecond before the sea and the wind start to continue. The dog absolutely breaks it. It just lets out this tiny yelp and just tries to skidaddle it in the quickest direction it can, which is away from you off the cliff. And it just, you hear it just... Baxter!
00:09:24
Speaker
Hit the bottom, hit some rocks on the bottom. The old man, however, with his head down, he follows the eye, follows the line of the dog as he walks off, as he kind of runs off the edge of this cliff to get away from this harrowing scream, doesn't move, and just slightly nods his head. It seems I've lost another friend today. His head's still down.
00:09:49
Speaker
Next, still exposed. Make your mind up. Do something. I swing my sword across over my head and bring it down as fast as possible just before the top of his head and strike the ground. Okay, this sword floods
00:10:12
Speaker
swiveling with energy just in front of him. He can actually see his own reflection in your soul. That's how close it is to his face and his breath. It's kind of pushing onto its slightly iced steel.
00:10:28
Speaker
will not be the last time we meet. And with that, Draggo takes the sword, lifts it up, sheaves it, rather, and walks off in the direction, not that he came, in the opposite direction that he came, so I assume north. So I had him at just the jet, so we went, you were traveling east. I've been flying. So you'd be heading west. So you'd be heading west, backtracking. Back where you came, or continuing onwards. Continuing onwards. So east past the man.
00:11:01
Speaker
I did write what I didn't write what I did. I did take a scap. You did write the beginning. So as the wind can do is to rank if he's a lapster and you walk past the old man, the old man stands himself up and kind of lets you walk away and he starts to walk in the opposite direction to you.
00:11:24
Speaker
well actually. Are you just walking on, walking on down? Yeah, I'm just walking on down. Can you give me a perception, Jake? Oh, I certainly can. It's all right. Yep, 15. Do I have that lost face to the old man? Tell him he's going to kill him. So, as you start to walk away, and you notice the old man has stood up and starts to walk away as well, as you start to kind of reach a slight lift in the ground, a slight lift in the ground, as you continue to follow the coastline to the east,
00:11:54
Speaker
for one final look and you can see him trudging off into the distance but you can see a small dog by his feet as he walks off in the opposite direction to you. Just so you know. We're going to come back to that in a moment.
00:12:16
Speaker
scanning back over the island off to the west. We pass over the six trees, we pass over a day's worth of travel to the north east, north east, north east, oh look at east and west confused, and to the north east and we come across some ruins of old buildings. Did you go west? He went west, you guys went north east. Panning up past the trees to the north east when we noticed the ruins of some buildings, some dust seems
00:12:48
Speaker
actually travelled through one of the buildings, knocking down some old ruins, we come across these three people we come across, Robin.
00:13:01
Speaker
shade up. What time of day is it? It's coming up to the evening now as we were walking during the day and came across a mammoth in the afternoon. So I know there was a high wall and then off to further sort of like 30 feet towards the north of that there was two there was a more enclosed built that's all like ruined is that looking like more of a sheltered space? That space was the space that the mammoth
00:13:28
Speaker
is not. So we have got a say one ward side that we could use. How dense is the woodland? Quite sparse actually you can see through it but the deeper you look into the woods it looks like it might get a little thicker. Okay so we're actually at the edge of a forest. Yes. From that perspective that's what it looks like. Shader what were you aiming to achieve there? I'm most curious. That's a lie. Well good question Robin.
00:13:52
Speaker
I was searching for possibly a faster means of transportation. And you chose a manor? I chose the only thing that we could actually rest on while still moving. Right. Good. Clearly my animal handling skills were not... Well, I thought they were. I think in the future we'll leave the local wildlife to its own devices and live for other means of transportation. Stick to horses.
00:14:22
Speaker
Our feet will do. Yeah. Tyler kind of spins around from where she was looking off towards where the mammoth is kind of traipsed its way off into the... What direction did the mammoth go in again? I kind of went north from you, so it's not quite directly into the forest. I put kind of off around the edges. She kind of looks over and goes, that thing was massive. It was. I haven't seen anything like that before. I've heard of them. I've seen pictures.
00:14:50
Speaker
The sun is setting we might want to consider if this is the place we're going to arrest. Good point Robin, I was going to say I could use the boots of levitation to get a more of an aerial view to try and see perhaps if
00:15:04
Speaker
there is a better place. So far we've seen on the ground, whereas it might be best just to see if there's dents of forest or some structures that could perhaps give us more cover of what we all think. OK, that sounds good. I presume you'll be doing that from the top of it. Well, I could not in the direction at all. I can just use them from here because they will allow me to do so. Are these those fun boots you got that can make you float? Yeah. That's amazing. Yeah.
00:15:33
Speaker
So we stay here then? Well, I was going to go up in the air a bit and see if there's a better place for us to stay but I don't think we should stay here because if this is where the mammoth was, this might be its home or where it tends to spend a lot of time so it might come back.
00:15:53
Speaker
Okay, I'd like to use my bits of levitation please, do you? Okay, yep, absolutely. How high can you get with those? Or how high do you want to go, should I ask? I'm gonna go 20 feet up. Okay, the trees are about 30.
00:16:08
Speaker
Okay, so I can then see what I see. Okay, lovely. So as you travel up it takes, you know, 12, 20 seconds or so to get up to that kind of height where you can see a decent area around you, you can see the ruins closest to you, you can see the rubble that's created, you can also see off to the north this single mammoth start to move further and further off into the distance there. The trees thicken to the northeast the way you're kind of traveling on that kind of jetty, but then you can also see them abruptly end
00:16:45
Speaker
and then they instantly stop. Your history and knowledge of the Sword Coast were probably down to erosion, and the island is constantly being battered by the elements. It probably would have continued, but bits of it have fallen away. To the north, like I said, you see this mammoth kind of trundling off, and the north part of the island continues over the horizon. As you look back on yourself and where you travelled, you can see the six trees that you camped
00:17:16
Speaker
kind of appeared a while ago. As you continue to spin around you can also see the rock faces that you looked at and were possibly going to stay into the west as well and beyond that a kind of a larger set of rocks and kind of mountainous range just to that area. And which way is the mountains? And that's from your perspective directly south. Yeah. But from that central point we had of the six trees it was to the west. Any smokestacks or signs of civilisation?
Debate: Stay in Woods or Explore Island
00:17:41
Speaker
Give us a perception check please. Elphir?
00:17:44
Speaker
21. OK, as you look around you can see quite far off into the distance there's some mist, there's some haze in the air. You can also see off to the east on the island a bit of a storm brewing as well, which happens to be the storm the dragon is currently in. However, as the mist kind of swirls around you, you can't make out any smokestacks. You're looking at kind of the style of smokestacks. I'm looking at the style of civilisation. Absolutely.
00:18:09
Speaker
And you can't really seem to find anything at the moment, okay? Is there anything else you want to do? Are you all hyped or are you happy to? I'll end the spell and I will float gently to the ground. Okay, touch back down. Tally's there just amazed at your boots. Like, that's incredible! Can I trade them on?
00:18:24
Speaker
I'm sure I'll let you have a go at them at some point, I don't know. Yes! So, the trees do thicken for the north-east. What is our end game here? What are we hoping to achieve? To survive. Now, the trees thicken, I would say that's a good place to work. I couldn't see any signs of civilisation there, that's my problem. This man says that he and his village or whatever live on this island. I don't, or people are very, if I don't yet see...
00:18:48
Speaker
or whatever the name is, so it's the island of Ozrolands. The Ozrolands, I don't understand where they're living. We have camps of civilisation.
00:18:59
Speaker
in the Neverwinter forests. We were able to avoid detection. Yeah, it's quite possible these people are capable of doing the same. True. I would suggest we go towards the Ticker Forest in the northeast for cover, better than here. OK. There was a... I just... Do you think that's such a good idea? Sheila, what do you think? Because the last time we were in a forest, we... Well, we got in a bit of a trouble, didn't we? We did, but the way I see it, we have shelter out there.
00:19:30
Speaker
Better prospects for food? Basic essence of survival? Yes, I am hungry. I think we all are. We only have limited rations. We need another source of sustenance. And the woodland is home to many, many creatures, normally. We only see barren wastelands surrounding us. This is the straight sound I've ever been on.
00:19:53
Speaker
Have we travelled basically across it, or have we sort of, like, gone a little bit? So the journey you've taken, you've kind of... I'm trying to get in my head. Imagine...
00:20:02
Speaker
From your perspective, all you know so far is you've hit what you assume is the southern part of the island, in front of the sun, the southern part of the island. You've then gone north and come to the trees. Yeah. Drago's gone around the coast edge to the east. Yeah. You've gone north-west. I thought he went west. He went west. Yeah, north and east again. West and east. So you went west. You went northeast a little bit. Yeah. So you've gone up to this top northeastern area and that's where you've seen that edge. You've also seen the southeast part
00:20:33
Speaker
But off to the west and the northwest and the north, that hasn't been explored. You can't see the edge of that because that just goes over the horizon.
00:20:49
Speaker
I agree. Into the woods. I'm happy for that. I think there's still many areas to explore but perhaps it's not the best thing. My main concern is the storm coming so we need to get there quickly. I can think of a way to expediate our journey here. That man said we have to prove our strength.
00:21:12
Speaker
Maybe we can see the ways that we can prove our strength. He wanted us to survive. He didn't say... He said you should survive for three days. Going out and butchering wildlife. I'm not suggesting we kill the mammoth, but what I am suggesting is that that mammoth is wounded and something bigger may hunt that mammoth. Something bigger than my mammoth? Oh, I don't know if I like that. The mammoth went more... The mammoth will leave. We're going off, it would be quite a trial, but we are risking going off something...
00:21:42
Speaker
in the dark. We could do that tomorrow. But my concern is we are wasting daylight and time. Besides that thing, I don't think we'd lift his trail any time soon. I do agree it could benefit us to follow it. Mine endear us to the local population. Or possibly some food before it. Let's go. Into the woods. So we're heading on out of the woods.
00:22:04
Speaker
Okay, very nice. Into the woods are nice of us. So we're starting our trail back into the woods to find... Well, not back at all. Going into the woods to try and find what sort of place to... More adventure trees than the six shrubs we were hiding under. Basically find a place to camp and perhaps also keep an eye out for food. Okie dokie. So can I have you all roll perception for me please?
00:22:30
Speaker
Yes. Thank you very much. So, we'll start, Robin, what did you roll? 14. 14, thank you. Elphir? 24. Shader? I rolled a 4. Here we go. I can use my passive on that one. I'm just going to use my 12. Okay, nice. So as we start to make our way deeper into the forest, there's a nice kind of familiarity you have on this.
Setting Up Camp and Preparing for Night
00:22:51
Speaker
There's nothing particularly different about these trees. The other surrounding area feels alien to you, but
00:22:57
Speaker
actually being amongst these normal trees seemed quite friendly and homely. Reminding you of the never went to woods, Robert. Reminding you of your past health here. Reminding you of forests in general, Shado I think. But it's something that you know. It's something that everything else has been very weird and alien and Martian almost to you. This feels more familiar. And you do, you hear the odd quiet noise of birds in the trees somewhere off in the distance.
00:23:26
Speaker
As you start to move closer into the forest, the trees kind of give you a sense of cover, the winds start to die down, even though you can very much sense that a storm, a physical storm, is coming up an anthropological one. You get deeper and deeper in and you actually do come across a rather nice decent thicket of trees that offer shelter from the elements above.
00:23:50
Speaker
is thick thick oak trees seem to line an area of this that seem to be quite a nice little safe area that you could sit in and may probably make camp in as well and it seems you seem to accidentally come across this as you come on your way in so you're a good let's say you're a good two hours into the thicker part of the forest now and you haven't
00:24:13
Speaker
necessarily seen any wildlife on the go because you even understand it's still quite scarce even here but you've managed to find what seems to be a relatively sensible place to make camp. Looks like the look is finally turning. This looks great. Well Talia maybe you could use that spell of yours to get a fire going and if one of you comes with me I might be able to find us something to eat. That sounds great. Who's got wood?
00:24:36
Speaker
in a forest. But I know, but I thought, can you just, I thought, you know, why? Let us find
00:24:44
Speaker
What would we count without cutting down trees tonight? How is there no sexual innuendo there, girl? We can't do a phrasing anymore. I think she's 14 years old. 15-year-old character. 15-year-old character. Who's got wood? I'm sorry. I mean, let's set that up something chronic or something. Oh, look, I just went practical. Yes. My three-year-old son could say that and I'd laugh in his face. And he will be severely confused because... Let's... Sir... Shader. How were you at hunting?
00:25:14
Speaker
I will take the lead, you just need to assist. You go with him, I'll set up camp. Okay. I don't know what I can offer. You have much better perception than I do, but yeah, why the hell not? Wonderful company, Shader. That's what you can offer. Wonderful company. So, we have Robin and Shader going off in deeper into the forest trying to find something to hunt, and we have Elphir and Talia making camp. So, firstly,
00:25:41
Speaker
can I have you roll a survival check please to see how we get on with setting up our camp please and whilst he's rolling that do you guys want to also give me your roll your I guess Robin you'd be making the roll here with advantage your survival roll I just tell you the number and then if you want to have a conversation maybe we can do that in a moment 15 so we've got 15 for that so yeah
00:26:04
Speaker
We work through setting up the camp. Talia and Elphie do a really quick job of it. It actually feels quite homely. It feels quite nice actually. You come across plenty of wood that's available. You set up a nice fire. Talia has her book of spells open. She rests her hand upon one of the larger logs. It bursts into flame and a nice warm fire gets going. This feels quite cosy now actually as well. The mossy ground is dry and offers a really quite nice spongy topping almost to your mats that you have laid out.
00:26:33
Speaker
for the tents that you place on that as well. And she looks quite content, not tent, sorry, but for the mats that you've got all over there. And she looks quite content, kind of looking, continuing to look through her spell book out there. And meanwhile, what do we get then, Robin? 24. 24, wow, okay. So with this 24, we're off hunting, we're off looking for things, and we start making our way through the trees, through thickets, and we hear noises left, right, center, and little bits and pieces as we make our way through.
00:27:02
Speaker
Is there anything you guys want to talk about whilst you're there? Or are you just looking for the food and getting all that? I would turn the stage of shade, Aaron, and go... Just out of curiosity, what are the Vorden customs for pets? Just to clarify, sorry, Vorden is where? Vorden is the city where I was born, raised and majority of your own by way of my father as well. Just for anybody who doesn't know that.
00:27:31
Speaker
So everyone. Except people around this table. So not everyone. Casting shade on shade on. Bond and pets are basically anything you can tame, anything you can see have some use whether it be as a guard, animal, attacking, riding, doesn't matter.
00:27:54
Speaker
Which point do I hear whatever it is that is coming through after all my bone? I just whisper, am I suggesting to a cat? Nice, okay, and so off in between two trees, you've actually spotted an old man now, Jackie. An old man and his dog. Not again.
00:28:14
Speaker
You bastards! I can't get enough of you! No, it's a small deer. You manage to find and you've managed to get it straight through the neck. It's forced down to the ground to clean kill. The arrow is recoverable as well. And, yep, you can manage to grab that and make your way back to camp, if you wish. I would say to show that as we're going, a friend of mine, very dear friend, used to be able to conjure a bird. Whoever perfect the arcane arts,
00:28:49
Speaker
imagine you say that after robin's yeah basically robin's kind of wandered off thing i can still i can still picture shadar doing the only useful thing he can kind of do now is just lugging this uh small deer just on his shoulders while he's parading off in front and just shade off molding himself i can turn into a bat that's all i need of course and then just kind of wandering off behind him as well nice okay and so the storm
00:29:14
Speaker
The storm has kind of come around you and you do feel like you're almost in the eye of the storm because the trees are offering that much protection. You can feel the top areas of the trees kind of swaying with the power of the wind and from the elements as well and you can hear the rustle above you but you do feel slightly enclosed and quieter below. The wood and the moss kind of dampens a lot of the sound that is there and therefore you can make that camp nice and homely as you arrive back.
00:29:39
Speaker
And just as that happens, we zoom back out a few and we're going to fly over the eastern coast. Before we actually go over to, I'm assuming we're going to be flitting over to Jargo, have we arrived back at the camp? Yeah, kind of said, you're just about arrived. Can I just double check the clearings above us? Would that make enough
00:30:00
Speaker
space up there for the smoke to get out because the only way I think, I would still be thinking of Drago in this particular essence, out there by himself. We've now moved on from where we were before. I would like to, if necessary, set up an additional, almost like a smoke signal thing just so Drago knows, even if it's not us, people are there. So the place you set the fire up is in a way where there is a canopy above,
00:30:28
Speaker
How do they anticipate it so they can't be seen? Yes, you really can't. You can't much be seen, not at that point. No, because otherwise you'd be open to the elements and then we'd get the storm through. So it's a nice, it's a good canopy to keep the rain away from you. And it is really the odd drips and drabs that manage to come through of rain. But the smoke kind of hits this canopy and then kind of seeps on through. I wouldn't say it would give you, from your perspective, a clear signal to drag out at that point. But you can talk about smoke signals like that maybe in a moment.
00:30:53
Speaker
We panned down the coast and across through to a sodden and suddenly profused Drago at seeing this man with his dog again walking in the opposite direction. What do you want to do? Keep walking. You're going to keep walking? Just keep walking singular purpose to your mind and you're just intent on finding something out of nothing and also
00:31:21
Speaker
on so he is one foot in front of the other muting out everything the wind the rain he's got cold resistance because he's a ice dragon so it shouldn't bother him too much and he's just trudging forwards
00:31:35
Speaker
so it's just transit charging forwards. It's not quite dark yet so we're kind of in that that last moments of light especially in the storm so it's actually getting dark quicker than it would normally as well and the rain lashes down as you follow the coast edge round again still rock edges of this cliffs is dark.
00:31:52
Speaker
dark rock cliffs as you continue to follow round. Like I said it pulls up and then kind of settles out down as you continue to follow round. It takes you still east, northeast, west, northwesterly as you work your way along that line. As you get closer you see upon this path
00:32:11
Speaker
a kind of bundle of clothes or some kind of rags or something and a pile kind of on your path as you approach what you actually do. It looks like a big kind of black cloak that's just been kind of crumpled down on the floor. This is still off in the distance
00:32:30
Speaker
I would head towards the black cloak and I yeah I just head towards the black cloak. As you get closer you realise this is covering something that seems to be a mass of something underneath it so you're probably about 30 or 40 feet away at this point. As I get to the mass how big are we talking as I walk towards it because I'm going right up towards it? You could
00:32:55
Speaker
It could be a... Does it look like human shape? Give me a perception check, please.
00:33:02
Speaker
That is a 20. As you get closer and closer you start to notice at one end in particular two separate lumps that seem to be the same height at the same width at the same depth. They do look like they could be a pair of feet underneath the sheet. You have the perception that you have the thought that it might be a person under there.
00:33:27
Speaker
Nice. I will kick. Okay, and as you kick it, the whole mass kind of moves a little bit, but you get no response. Wake up! Kick again. What was it again? And still no response.
00:33:43
Speaker
I pull the cloak off. What you see underneath is a slightly, takes you back ever so slightly. It is an incredibly pale, relatively young looking man, probably in his late 30s, well young looking man, that's us in our 30s now, he's quite young, he's in his late 30s, still young, still got it. No, that's right, late 20s.
00:34:05
Speaker
but he has absolutely no hair, his eyebrows, no hair, sponsored by Babyliss, no. His hair looks like it's been ruined, he says no hair at all. His chest and torso is bare, he is wearing a pair of kind of trisery material, kind of rags on his lower portion as well, this is a PG show after all.
00:34:31
Speaker
So as you kick it off, you see this, and he's incredibly pale. He's not ethereal, he's something like that. His skin is very, very, very pale. And as you pull back the sheets, his eyes are closed at the moment as well. He's topless at the moment, so what's the state of his body? Is there meat on him, or is it skin and bone? Do I see the rib cage? Give me an investigation check, please.
00:34:55
Speaker
10, my passive is 12. Ok so I'll take the 12 then. No it's not, yes it is. As you look over him you start to kind of look through, he looks like a, no you can't really see the ribs, he's got a bit of meat on him, a bit of muscle, if you look over his hands you can see they're a bit dirty as well, like he's been working or something like that as well.
00:35:18
Speaker
He works, I don't know, with his hands, probably. But the rest of his skin, his chest, his face is very, very pale. And as you're busy investigating it, suddenly, the eyes shoot open. And this breath kind of enters him as his body starts to convulse him, so slightly as he grabs hold of a part of you, whatever it's kind of closest to, it's like a shoulder or something like that. And he grabs you with his right hand and just kind of grabs a hold of you for a second. Easy, easy. I'm not gonna harm you. Breathe.
00:35:49
Speaker
I said breathe. Be calm. He's looking, his eyes are looking. Jago's trying his best. He's looking straight into your eyes and for the first time you realise he's got these piercing, piercing black eyes. They aren't just like fully black. He still has like the white around a bit. His eyes are really, really dark. He stares straight at you. He stares straight at you and he just... Can you talk? Do you speak the common tongue? Yes, yes.
00:36:17
Speaker
Why do you sound like you're joking? The Simulacra. Sorry, what? The Simulacra. The Simulacra. Simulacra. Simulacra.
00:36:35
Speaker
And with that, his body just disappears into dust. And all that's left is this black rag on the ground. It kind of goes down to the ground as the wind, the wind and rain continue to come down. And his body has just disappeared. What a dump.
00:36:54
Speaker
Simulacra. I take the rag still there, did you say the black cloak? I give it a shake to see if there's any dust or anything. There's no dust in it, no. He's left behind nothing other than this black cloak. Okay, taken aback and confused. Dragga just takes a moment, just kind of processing what's just happened. Simulacra.
00:37:23
Speaker
Simulacra. With that he takes the black cloak and he drapes it over his shoulders and carries on. Okay, and as you take a couple of steps you hear a little crumple inside the coat as you realise there's a bit of paper in there as well and as you pull it out it just says a single word on it and it says Ericas. E-R-I-K-A-S. Ericas. Ericas.
00:37:53
Speaker
and the paper itself just falls into ash in your hands. Oh shit. This isn't good. And he just pulls the cloak a little bit tighter around him and carries on walking. To the west. Yeah, wherever he was heading. Lovely.
Survival Plans and Watch Order Discussion
00:38:17
Speaker
Okay, thank you very much.
00:38:19
Speaker
And then we're going to pass ourselves back over to the other side of the island as we pan back over to our camp that's being put together at the moment. We've just returned. We're there for one. And we're ready for cooking. It's a nice, homely, warm place. Very different and abjectly different to the environment that Drago is currently under. What do we want to do? We've got this form back. What are we doing?
00:38:47
Speaker
I'm gonna cook me some eats. Cook me some eats. All right, give me a survival check, please, and you can use your cooking utensils. A survival check, yes. Mm. Get that out of my proficiency, don't I? You're doing Dizzle. So that's three, six, nine. Nine? Okay.
00:39:17
Speaker
So with that nine you manage to get most of the skin off, there's bits of flesh still, it's quite a gamey form actually, so you have a bit of an issue getting a lot of that off. You don't seem to still kind of be wholly with it still, none of us are still kind of there from the previous couple of days.
00:39:36
Speaker
Now she gets some decent chunks of meat off just about and can cook them how you want. So what were you intending on? Well I was hoping to cook. So Elle Fair is aiming to cook as much. Cook the deer.
00:39:52
Speaker
If it will keep, perhaps wrap some bits up to keep for tomorrow just in case they need something because they can keep it for a bit and cook it and it's probably good rather than cook it and then go bad. He might try and sort of
00:40:11
Speaker
salvage what he can. So if the skin, if he gets the skin, I'm not trying to salvage from the skin, I'm just going to trade it later. So move. Don't worry how many antlers, that's fine. But yeah, don't just try and make food out of it. Maybe chop off some, a couple of the legs and just chop off the meat. Cook that over the fire and then cook off and then sit and then try and prepare some of the other meats to be wrapped up and saved for later. Okay.
00:40:34
Speaker
So whilst you're cooking it, one of the legs isn't quite cut properly and falls into the fire and kind of unusable. I'll give that a try. I'm already there. And the cuts are fine. You manage to kind of cook those well enough. They're not going to go off any time soon. They'll kind of kill them. You've kept them.
00:41:04
Speaker
You have a series of meats that are available to eat now as opposed to using your rations. So you have enough that you could eat primarily meat and avoid not having to use your rations. One outfit has been doing this, Robin has taken out some of the scrolls, has started to read through them, go through the arcane inscriptions and with that I confidently take out of my bag a piece of parchment and I write on it
00:41:28
Speaker
some words and I turn over to Shader and I go, Shader, can you read that? Well, they're loud. Yes, please. Hello, my name's Shader. It means I need to still work at it.
00:41:59
Speaker
more work to do. Thank you. At this time, whilst she, Elph has been cooking and Talia's been watching this past over, she kind of gives a little, ah, knowing kind of noise and katisa, then move back through her book to an earlier page and start kind of looking over, looking at what, at what
00:42:18
Speaker
Robin's doing and looking down at her tone that she has and start kind of nodding around as she goes kind of trying to keep up with maybe what Robin's thinking of doing or trying to do at the time like she's aware of it as well. What did I get wrong? I mean, how ever have I kind of censored my shoulder? What am I doing wrong? It's to do with the earlier part of the
00:42:43
Speaker
You know, what you're doing, it's before you start writing, not actually the writing itself apparently. I'll keep reading and let you know. And she kind of thumbs through a couple more pages of the book as well. And kind of settles that into trying to find some more information for you as well. While that's been going on, Elphie, your meat's all ready to be cooked and ready to be eaten. I'm all right, Lincoln, we're just going to kind of share out the portions amongst the four of you. Yes.
00:43:13
Speaker
I eat food. So, this is day one. What do we think we're going to do for the next one that we survive? This is our second night, but first full day.
00:43:29
Speaker
Yeah. And what do you all think? Do we stay here for three days and find the old man or do we keep exploring the island? It's the intent purely to survive because this seems a natural place to do. I would totally agree. I don't know whether we make this our base camp and we could explore and then come back to here. Certainly we have found a safe place to stay. Or are we just being jerked off by an old man who's trying to have a laugh? Well, he seems by... How about our children here? Do you mind?
00:43:58
Speaker
He seemed quite jerked. He said jerked off. He had it. Fucked off, never mind. That was it. I know. He jerked a fine old man. Even the DM would get the fucking ride. I mean, he's like a Game of Thrones. You wonder about this one. Shader. We don't know nothing about the old man. We don't know if anything that he said was true. We don't know if this is on his land. For all we know, just on the other side of the island, people are over there living happily, and we're here being loons. I totally...
00:44:29
Speaker
I mean, I'm quite happy right now. I'm not feeling, like, loonish, but... But we can't stay here. This is not a feasible cause to stay for the future on the basis that we might have to be here for three days. I don't know. Seems right, but, OK, I take your meaning. The weather is tempestuous here, Shaydar. If we wanted to get caught in it, it could be... deadly. ...tentially fatal. I'm a dwarf, so I assume you mean dangerous by that. No, deadly. A portable sort of a word there that you use. What fatal?
00:45:02
Speaker
Ah, that one with you. Okay. Stormy. Ah, thank you. Rain. Thunder. Turns out some... Evil way, we should establish a watch order. We still need to know this place. I agree. But what about tomorrow?
00:45:21
Speaker
Do we go traveling again? Do we find... I mean, I don't mind exploring the island. What I don't want to do is... Okay, if the man's just, you know, messing around, then sure. Three days' time, we go find him and see what's happening. If not, we've arrived. Somehow a demigod has brought us to wherever we are in this world. This person hadn't ever heard of the Sword Coast. I don't know where we are. We don't know how far we have traveled. We could be on the other side of Toril for all we know.
00:45:49
Speaker
We've been told to find this order of whiskers. Talia, do you have anything in that spell book that might enlighten us to where we are, what's going on? And she kind of grabs the book and starts thumbing it ahead, thumbing it ahead, thumbing it ahead. Any divination. She's looking... I know what I'm looking for. I saw it before. She's scanning through it.
00:46:15
Speaker
Clairvoyance? Yes, that's something that could have you ask questions and get answers. Right. Yeah, I mean, it looks quite straight as you turn to the page and her face kind of drops slightly. Or if you turn to the page again and you realize this is... Don't. It's about six pages of notes on this. And some of the ingredients already on the first page, we don't have access to half of this stuff. What are you missing?
00:46:44
Speaker
I mean everything really and not to be funny but she points to a book and she's about three-quarters of the way through it she goes this spells about here and then she takes a big sum of pages turns it back I'm only about here a moment in terms of we don't just we don't want to show
00:47:04
Speaker
ability to do this yet. It's worth knowing for the future. I'll keep an eye on it but I don't know. I mean if we come across a scroll of it maybe we could use it. Perhaps. Anyway it's worth us thinking about. Watch order. Yep. Two hours each should be enough to cover the night. I've obviously covered slightly longer. Well if you can cover four it might be worth a doubling up on a watch just to be safe.
00:47:32
Speaker
We don't have the manpower. I can do a watch. Sorry, no offense. If Talia does her watch with me, we double up on that watch. So perhaps me and Talia take the deepest part of the night. You can only watch for a certain number of hours. Shader takes the first two. We take the second two. You take the final four. Four hours of... Yes. That's the eighth. We're getting ready to sleep for six. Yeah.
00:47:57
Speaker
Yeah, that would be great. Yeah, Shayna, you're up first. Okay, Shayna, can you give me a perception check, please, for the night's watch to pass. I am a blind-ass wolf, but I will certainly try. And the against the netty one! A natural one for the night. I literally am a blind-er. So you think you're looking out?
00:48:21
Speaker
of the tree is keeping watch as you're looking at the ground. I've got this image of Shader just kind of stud at ready just blankly staring at your tree almost asleep, stud up. It's like mow, bam, back to the wall. Not doing anything yet.
00:48:39
Speaker
During that watch you're not really paying much attention but you do feel actually the grind beneath you and you kind of move on if you imagine you're going to sit on a log or something like that or just kind of looking at the blade or just staring out at the leaves I don't know and you kind of move your feet.
00:48:57
Speaker
you feel it becomes all of a sudden much soddier under foot. As you look down you notice that the water has started to form all around the area. It seems to have come along very quickly and out of nowhere. You kind of notice this quickly and your consternation picks up slightly. Your alertness kicks in slightly despite your natural one. Because you're still up.
00:49:20
Speaker
Exactly, yeah. It doesn't mean you're nothingness. And you start to hear the sounds of waves, but the sounds of waves in the forest.
Surprise Attack: Water Elementals Invade
00:49:32
Speaker
and you start to see between some of the trees, almost this wave started to approach between the trees. As it gets a little closer, a little closer, you realise you've seen something like this in your past before. It seems to be this humanoid feature that's made distinctly out of water. And then you see a second one appear as well as they start to come towards you. We're going to need to clear some space and we're going to need to roll this shit. Oh! Oh damn!
00:50:09
Speaker
At least I still can't be surprised, even though I'm still technically awake. Oh, first battle of the episode. Yeah, it is. It was a woolly mammoth before. What's it going to be this time? Something we actually have to kill. You guys ready? Yeah. What rolls? I've not rolled yet. I want the board out first. Oh, you're doing it nice. Look at the board we're getting.
00:50:34
Speaker
on other D&D games I've seen this board's been made some out of like acrylics using actual proper miniatures yeah mini castles have been molded paper mache really detailed stuff so for our podcast holograms not sparing any expense
00:50:53
Speaker
Hologram Star Trek stuff. What you can't see, Bliss, is we're actually sending up Hologram terrain. What's the Star Wars game that Cheeriois plays? I don't know, it's Hologram Cheers, basically. That's what we're saying.
00:51:09
Speaker
Cortana coming up. Yeah that's basically what we've got. It's proprietary technology so we can't share it with our listeners too much but we have the technology. We're going to do a kick-start campaign where you can purchase said holographic D&D map.
00:51:27
Speaker
Now they're just like, delivering on a guarantee. So it's common to it because it's so high end, so please be careful as it approaches. So just to give you some, it's a clearing, obviously in the middle. The area to the, let's argue that that is the east, is the thicket that's kind of the protected side. The figures that are appearing are coming from the west. So which way is the coast? The coast is technically to the south this way.
00:51:57
Speaker
Okay, but this water is coming from the... So where's our fire? Fire's been slapped, bang in the middle, under the canopy. Meditating. Right there, okay. So if you want us to place... Where's the water? Your models, they're coming from? Coming from the west, and this way. And we are in the east, the alcove area is there. So put the tyre here, there. We've been split up most likely. Is that going for you? Somewhere over there. Yeah, I'll be.
00:52:26
Speaker
I'm just going to place these two figures that are just
00:52:33
Speaker
You can just press that button, it'll take two or three months. Yeah, so if you press the button, it'll make the hologram go. Ah, the button does say prone on it. You should actually see the one who jumped out of my cup and is swimming around the end of the board. Once we get to 10,000 subscribers on our Twitter account, we will give this away to one of you. We will actually give a lucky that the 10,000 subscriber will get a picture of what our hologram technology actually looks like. Not just a picture, Will.
00:53:07
Speaker
I was trying to think of a name for it. D and holo. Dungeons and holos. Holograms and dragons. That's the name of it. H and D. Someone else come up with a better one and tweet me. So can I please take your initiative orders please? Anyone get 20 plus? Ooh, some very sheeps-looking characters. 15 to 20.
00:53:36
Speaker
Oh my god, Shader. Shader on top's it with a main... I rolled a 17. Good lord. But I had to get a 19 because I put the better song to it then. 19. So I'll say top of the ring, Shader. Now I've never had one before and I wrote that down in a book because it was the first time. That'll be funny happens.
00:53:58
Speaker
what about uh 10 to 15 11 good lord but wow i rolled a two and then i added nine to that so you know what even volume one i thought about was 10 uh what did you get jader i got 19 what's your dexterity modifier just f1 my dexterity modifier it's plus two is it plus two
00:54:26
Speaker
It's going to be... probably Robin, what'd you get? Seven. Oh, Robin.
00:54:37
Speaker
We've not benefited from any resting, have we? Not yet, nope. Thank you. Good to have you reset my usage of stuff. So, is it night time? It is night time. How dark is it in the clearing? Where do we know you're blaring? It's quite dark, but you, the fire is still going. But there's lots of shadows, right? There's lots of shadows. Marvelous, thank you. Well, actually there are not many shadows, it's mainly all... There'll be lots of flickering shadows. Technically, how do you define a shadow? Because technically the sun is out.
00:55:01
Speaker
Well, no, the sun's out. The sun's away. Surely everything is in shadow. The way I define shadows is that scene in The Lion King, where Mufasa's like, you must never go there, when Simba's pointing out that. What about that shadowy place? That's how I define shadows. Now, I think that I can't think how far you need to decide how far the fire is basically casting light. OK, add one, Cheryl.
00:55:31
Speaker
relatively low light. Cool. So there might be some areas you can you can shell around if you want. Right okay. Thank you. So these watery fingers seem to, oops, seem to be appearing, sorry this one's for that. These seem to be moving into the clearing ever so slightly. Shader, at the top of the round, what would you like to do? You can't really quite make them out beyond the trees. No, Shader has no idea what they are, so
00:55:56
Speaker
He's going to attempt to wake the wisest person in his personal experience and he's going to walk
00:56:06
Speaker
a few feet over to, erm, cos that one is Althea, isn't it? He's gonna walk a few feet over to Althea. He had a choice, Robin or Althea, after just saying the line, the most intelligent. The wisest, the wisest. I should possibly change it, the most experienced adventurer among us. Robin's face with that picture. I thought he'd wake us all!
00:56:32
Speaker
Well, I don't know what these are. They're still blobs of water. How does that seem a threat to me? That could be my favourite word. Basically, I'm going to use my action to nudge Elthea away so he can explain to me what the hell these things kind of are.
00:56:55
Speaker
I'm probably going to get around to his turn, but that will be all I'll do. Okie dokie, thank you very much. It's Tyler's turn, she's asleep, so she will do nothing. It could have been an idea to wake the magic instant. One of these watery figures moves.
00:57:16
Speaker
Oops, did it to the clearing, off to the south, it's kind of got a half circle round to get a bit of an angle on you, and does nothing. At this point you can clearly see, Elphir, you would know, you're awake now, and you're up here, you would know that to be a water elemental, you would know that.
00:57:34
Speaker
But it is, yeah, this very large, tall humanoid figure that has gushing water kind of surrounding and flowing through it in it at all times. Kind of like we've seen the mummy of returns when the face in the sound was trying to eat it. It's like that, surrounded by the element there.
00:57:54
Speaker
actually the mommy just saying sorry is when the plane that's the sand in the second one there is actually affect my bad
00:58:18
Speaker
But nonetheless, that's the kind of feeling you get. Sorry about the other hand, you can still make out the humanoid in and amongst it anyway. And it kind of stands that you can't make out a new emotion that's making up its face. Elfie, your turn. What do you have to do? Elfie will get up with using half my movement. Do I clock both of them? Yes. Your perception is high enough to clock both of them off the bat. So that one's over there. Has that one just stayed there? Has it moved, yep. Right, so Elfie moves beside Shader.
00:58:48
Speaker
and says, straight out, wake the others. And then he sort of holds out his hand, raises his hand to the element, uh, thoughtful element, and goes, greetings. Can you talk with us? That's your turn? Mm-hmm. Lovely. Uh, Robin, you're asleep. Can you give me a perception check to see if Elphie's voice would have broken you up? Uh, same time I pass it, which is 14. 14? Yeah, I'll say... Are you asleep?
00:59:16
Speaker
You are a speak, aren't you? So even passive at that stage. Yes, you're passive. We'd better take your passive because you wouldn't be awake to passively percept things. I'm completely passive. Bit of a definition. Yeah. Seven then. Yeah. Oh no, sorry, I've got to... You can decide your skill to it, you just can't take your floor because the passive is based on you actually. Okay, well I'll find the luck point and why I roll though.
00:59:44
Speaker
That is an 18. Yep, okay, so you do hear Althea talking and you do rise yourself and realise that the situation is taking place. So you are awake, but you are pregnant at the moment. What would you like to do? It's your turn. I'm going to. Do I get the sense they've noticed me? You can't. You can't make that. I mean, you can roll for it if you want. It should be a perception. Yeah.
01:00:09
Speaker
That is A25. You look through to the one to the south that had moved. You make eyes on him. But however, you cannot tell who they're looking at because you can't make out people within their eyes. You can see the detail that you cannot make out if they have intentionally not noticed you because there's no emotion there.
01:00:34
Speaker
Okay, I see Alfie's trying to negotiate with it, so I'm going to up with my movement to go into the trees, stealthily as possible. I'm going to ready a bow. Okay, what's the arrangement under which you want to fire?
01:00:51
Speaker
Well, I will fire if one of these launches an aggressive attack. I drop the voice in the adrenaline. And if I have a bow, should one of these creatures attack one of my friends? OK. Lovely. Thank you very much. The other water elemental... 10, 15, 20... Mix its way into the north part of the camp, splitting the two elementals up, but definitely entering into the camp.
01:01:22
Speaker
point okay they outbound passing through this is a purposeful move you can tell that and top of the round my god shadar always fun okay
01:01:38
Speaker
I did say you'd wake the others before I spoke the other end, but just a reminder of what I said. But it's fine, you do what you want. You play the game the way you want to play. But I'm just reminded of what I said, just in case. Yeah, I remember exactly what you said, and the reminder is appreciated. My character's an idiot, not me.
01:02:00
Speaker
But, nevertheless, character being an idiot and character being a character. Yeah, Eve's going to see these things as a threat now. They have encroached into our...
01:02:10
Speaker
safe area you have tried negotiating with them already and they have just come up you've asked me to wake everybody else clearly you think they are some kind of threat or have the potential to be so he's not going to take any chances with it he is going to let out a dwarf hill and roar which in essence hopes actually wakes Talia as well because she's not only like 15 or 20 feet away yep that works by that he is going to
01:02:39
Speaker
enter rage and go straight into him and start laying down some thunder. So you've max attack. So you've moved down to the southern water elemental. I have moved down to the southern water elemental to begin attack. And I'm going to attack it. Let's go for it. Okay, first attack of the night. Attack one. That is 15. That hits. Three. I shall one.
01:03:06
Speaker
Which is 6 or for us, 10. Will you need to know if it's what lightning damage? I will need to know what types of attack you have. 6, lightning damage. Bear with, bear with, bear with.
01:03:26
Speaker
So how much was your lightning damage? Six lightning damage. Yep, thank you. And for, what has even been slashing damage? Magical slashing damage. Yep, magical slashing damage. And then my... So what was it in total, sorry? Ten. Six and ten, yep, cool. Let me think of a match. Obviously I still get my second attack anyway. Which is a nineteen hit. And that is...
01:03:55
Speaker
Five points of magical slashing damage and four points of lightning damage. You're lovely, thank you very much for that. So you take two nice big swings at this water, and you see water kind of splash out as parts fall out to the side of it. It makes kind of a screeching noise.
01:04:13
Speaker
out of its kind of conical lungs out at you as it takes this damage. Talia at this point has woken up and kind of looks around panicky, sees you attacking this water elemental, she gets up on her feet, takes a step towards the southern water elemental where Shado is currently stood and is going to fire a firebolt, she rolls a natural 20. And the water elemental takes a 6 and a 7 of damage, that's 14, 13 points of fire.
01:04:41
Speaker
damage, yep, it can take that, and which takes it down to a lower part of half north. That's what I was about to say. Not like, man, this watermelon was easier than the last one. The answer to the watermelon was tight, it's going to take this shot of fire as well and it's going to swing back. Oh, good, that's coming back.
01:05:01
Speaker
At Shader, it's going to take what seems to be its hands, but it's kind of forming into massive clobs of water. Bring them down with two separate hits against you as it slams down onto you. A 22 against your armour class. That beats. And a 26 against your armour class. He's beat. OK, you're going to take... 14...
01:05:32
Speaker
13 points of damage, that's been halved already, that's bludgeoning damage. That's 26 points, that's 13 points of damage for that hit. And that's the elemental's turn. Would indeed, so do you want to take your opportunity?
01:05:54
Speaker
Okay, that's a 13 to hit. That misses, unfortunately. It just hits above the head of the, well, you assume it's the head of this water island until, as that first arrow goes sailing just over its head, and this is unfortunate. Waste of a silver arrow. Moving on to Althea, your turn. You've seen this attack take place, you've seen Talia, and Shayla strike it, and then it strikes back. What do you want to do? Okay, so now it's struck back. Althea,
01:06:22
Speaker
sort of looks, he watches Shader charge forward, a slight disgruntled face sort of expression, sort of just crossing his normally quite unreadable features at this attack. Elf there sees Shader and Tali and also Robin's arrows attack them to the south. So he spins towards the north at the other one and he
01:06:53
Speaker
notices where the shadows are and then he doesn't even think about picking up his quarter staff from the floor. He takes his fists and as he takes a slight sprint
01:07:10
Speaker
across the 15 feet, almost literally in the blink of an eye, he's running 15 feet, his fists sheathed in the shadow as he punches the water element. Alright, punch the water. I will do that. Punch it, William. Because he's got magic fears. Because I've got, I'm like, the fist of fury. Fisting hell. So, uh, is 22 not natural for the first attack? That hits.
01:07:40
Speaker
a 19 second attack so I roll damage for those first so that is 10 points of magical damage for the first attack thank you and then
01:07:57
Speaker
Oh, apologies, sorry. So it's 8 points to damage the first attack. Add 5, so that takes it to 13. 13 points damage over both. And then could it please make a DC-14 Khan saving throw? I try and stun it. It rolls a 20 unnaturally. In that case, that's not doing nothing.
01:08:24
Speaker
and at that point I will spend a kai point to take the dodge action for the rest of this round. I'll spend a kai point on the stunning strike or else I'll spend a kai point on the stunning strike and a kai point to all of a sudden prepare for this beast.
01:08:42
Speaker
sponsored okay thank you very much Robin your turn and you've seen these now all your brethren are now in combat what do you want to do I'm going to firstly take my bow and I'm going to shoot for the one that elf is now engaged with again with the north yep that how's that 24 that does hit your funny points okay it's elf is engaged so we sneak attack yes
01:09:11
Speaker
Nice. Now I'm also going to add, can it make a DC5? Apologies. Eight. Sixteen. Can you make a DC16 strength saving throw please?
01:09:29
Speaker
Okay, it still takes the damage right, that's the main thing. Okay, so this is a silver arrow, so this is carefully magical. It takes nine points of piercing damage. Yeah. It takes a further three points on the sneak attack. Yep. So that's 12 so far. And it also takes another three points from the force, even though it doesn't move it. No problem, thank you very much. I then spin with my extra attack. I'm going to shoot this one. Ooh, here we go.
01:09:59
Speaker
I'm wrong a DA, that won't be very good. You will miss. That's 21 to hit. 21 hits. You're aiming for the 1 by shader. Same again, I'm going to work in that back, make a DC 16 strength save, please. Makes it against a 72. Anyway, that's an 8 on the piercing, so that's a good start. These are silvers again. Yep. So that's 8 points of piercing.
01:10:32
Speaker
And then three points of force. So that's 11 points of force. Lovely. Thank you. I'm then going to stay where I am.
01:10:43
Speaker
Thank you very much for that, Robin. So the northern water elemental is indeed going to strike back against Elthir here. He's going to use Wellm. He's at disadvantage. Thank you. He doesn't have to roll anything. It's just a DC 15 strength saving throw from yourself, please, Elthir. And it's up to you. Oh, god. Here we go. So DC 15. Is he trying to grapple me?
01:11:16
Speaker
I got a 21. Okay, absolutely. You've passed that. So you are actually pushed back. Even though you've passed it. If you'd failed it, it would have been a buttload of damage. But this is, yeah, if the saving throw is successful, which it was, the target goes back to the elemental space. How much for you? It doesn't say. I'm going to argue just to keep your space.
01:11:47
Speaker
Lovely thing, that's the end of its turn. Top of the round, can't believe we've got to say this, Shader. How does the one I'm facing actually took his attack from last time? Yes, he did hit you back for like, 13 months of damage. So gentlemen, you need to hit me first. Yes, come on, sir, come on, sir. Okay, okay. I'm still just going to attack a way. So first attack, roll to hit.
01:12:15
Speaker
That was very very close. That was 24. 24 hits. And for attack 2, 13. This is the voice you see, if I hit it does make contact. Yeah, which means it takes 4 points of lightning damage and 7 points of magical slashing damage. Thank you very much.
01:12:39
Speaker
bonus action for this time, I'm also going to activate Frenzy, which will give me an additional single melee weapon attack on each of my turns after this one. Lovely, thank you very much. Thank you very much for that. Talia is going to be firing another firebolt at this creature, she rolls a 617 for that, which gets her the hit, which gives her four points of fire damage, and she fires and hits the opposite shoulder, or you assume will be the shoulder of this creature.
01:13:10
Speaker
The water element at this point is going to strike back at you Shader again.
01:13:15
Speaker
This time he is going to also use the similar thing. He's going to use a whelm. So could you please make a DC15 strength saving throw, please? I'm trying to put that modifier. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one.
Battle Strategies Against Water Elementals
01:13:32
Speaker
No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one. No, you spent the same modifier as the other one.
01:13:45
Speaker
15 points of bludgeoning damage, so that is 7 points of bludgeoning damage. You are also grappled. Until the grapple ends, you are restrained or unable to breathe unless you can breathe in water.
01:14:05
Speaker
That is a thing. Oh, wow. Is it like Sonic? You might want to... I'll don't, because that helps you to really freak me out. That music is terrible. I used to literally not play that game before when I got to that level. I hated it. But you're properly drowning at this point. You might want to have a quick look up the rules of drowning. I think you have a couple of rounds before it gets bad. So that's his turn done. Elphir, your turn. You're currently fighting the northern
01:14:36
Speaker
He's just pushing back. He's trying to grapple you in a similar manner, but failed miserably. What would you have to do? Because it's a magical creature, it's probably just saying what the Elf here was. No, he's not going to go into the shadows and then come out again to get revenge. It's a sneak attack. It's probably not going to be beneficial at this stage. So Elf here is going to go back in.
01:15:00
Speaker
again so Elthir leaps having been pushed back almost skidding back in the mud and then again his fists his sort of eyes get blazing now the shadows that are flickering on the fire are almost flickering almost towards him it's almost as if he's the status responding to his what he's doing and then he leaps
01:15:24
Speaker
moves to punch the water elemental. Okay, can I roll to attack please? First attack is a 11. Oh that misses unfortunately, or hits and has no effect yet. Second attack is better, is a 20 not natural. That hits. Thank you. It takes a measly five points of magic
01:15:52
Speaker
Thank you very much. And then can it make a DC 14 Con saving pro? It fails that time, it fails that. It is now stunned until the end of my next turn. Can we just check condition it?
01:16:07
Speaker
being stunned. No, he's not. He's stunned. No, so it's incapacitated, can't move, it speaks, hopefully, in a fragment of auto-fail strength and dexterity saves, and all hostiles have advantage. Lovely. Thank you very much. That is your turn, Robin, your turn. What would you like to do? You have struck one of the water elementals, you've hit the northern one so far, missed the southern one the last time, what would you like to do?
01:16:34
Speaker
Did you just watch the northern elemental quiver? I have a question for the DM. I was whelmed in one of these on the boat. My memory of that. He's pretty much encompassed inside, isn't he? I can't move it often. He has to break out. He has to break out, yes. You're shooting him. I look at that one and I think the risk of hitting shade R is too big. He has to try and break out.
01:17:01
Speaker
40s way out. So I turn my attention to the one that Elf is engaged with. I ready my bow. And is it, if I hit this stun crit, the crit? No, you have advantage, it's not unconscious. So you have advantage, but it auto fails strength index over checks. Okay, I would like to take a 5 penalty to accuracy to have a 10 plus to damage. You may.
01:17:26
Speaker
before I'm striking with advantage. That is, before I roll the second roll, that's a 14. On the second roll, that's a natural one, so it's a 14. 14 hits. Right. So, I will add to it then. I'll add sneak attack as well, develop is engaged. So, I'm going to roll a one, so that's 5 plus 10. That's 15 points of piercing damage from this other area.
01:17:52
Speaker
It takes from the sneak attack a further six points of damage. Lovely. So we're on 21 at the minute. Gotcha. And I'm going to add a... Yeah, I'm going to add a pushing attack to that, please, which it will automatically fail. Is that a strength check? But it fails automatically, yeah. It takes another five points of fourth damage.
01:18:17
Speaker
I'm going to send it 15 feet that way. Okay. Into the trees. I'd like to take my attack of opportunity please. Yes, of course. Take your attack of opportunity. I think that has a bit pushed away. Advantage. So the first one's a 10. Let's try for the advantage. And a critical hit.
01:18:47
Speaker
Only by 11 points of magical bludgeoning damage. As this thing, still stunned, gets pushed away. Lovely. I have my second attack. I'm in the second attack again, Robin, yep. Same principle, five penalty. Yep. So that's going to be a 15. We could go, we'll go for the turret, and that was 17 to hit. Okay, 17 hits. I can't, you just need to take the stun. Nope. It takes a further...
01:19:20
Speaker
17 points of damage. And I also forgot to add my Modifier to the first one, so it takes another 5 on top of that. So I'll just add a 22 for that. Okay, lovely. So this barrage of attacks takes place where an arrow shunts into the side of this stun creature, pushing it aside. Elfa manages to catch an elbow on its way past before the second arrow hits into him, it as well, as it gets pushed back in the way. Thank you Robin, really good series of attacks there.
01:19:48
Speaker
The creature that is currently grappling you continues to grapple you, shade up, and it comes around to your turn now to figure out your drowning procedure. We've just done it. I know about the drought, but that's fine. So the water elemental continues to keep you in that coil, in that hold. Shade up, your turn, top of the round. We are currently in the water.
01:20:17
Speaker
What have we got for drowning? Basically drowning or suffocating as it is in the player's handbook. Meaning that I can hold my breath for a number of minutes equal to one plus my constitution modifier. Now my constitution modifier is seven. Is it, wait, is it the same information? No, you can't modify it, so it's four or five minutes. No, I can hold it for five minutes.
01:20:43
Speaker
Ok, lovely, this is going to be 35 turns. Yeah, I've never had a match that long. So, what are the terms of grappling? You have to break out of the grapple, which is going to be a DC14 strength to be able to grapple out of it.
01:21:05
Speaker
What are we going to say? To the grappling, it's normally a contested athletics or acrobatics check. Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. I'm reading the wrong bit. No, no, no, you're right. It is contested, yeah. Sorry, I was reading the bit. There was a creature within five feet of the Atlantic and pulled a creature or object out for the 14th strength check. You are correct. It is a contested check. So you choose... So basically, you get Susie in athletics or acrobatics to get out, then you have two athletics to get out. So Shader is going to pick athletics check to get out of this grapple.
01:21:36
Speaker
20, not natural. 19, 19, so you do smash the breakout. You take a big breath as you manage to get out of this water elemental, being stuck in there for a matter of seconds, but you are free. It was unexpected, it was still the shock, and he's like, yeah, big, kind of breath. Absolutely. Talia then sees you out, fires a fireball, because it was a bit of a shock that you'd come out, a shock kind of
01:22:00
Speaker
goes off into the trees and bushes and the trees above her that misses you. That's the end of her turn. The second elemental that's been pushed against the tree is going to go... It's still stunned. It's still stunned, so can I... I can roll out of this corner. No, it's literally... It's incapacitated. It can't move. Speaks haltingly. It's just until the end of my next go. At the end of your next turn. Okay, so he doesn't have a go. Elphin, your turn. What would you like to do?
01:22:25
Speaker
Let's do it. So Elphir has seen this warfarin around to get blasted back by Robin's rocket arrows slamming towards this tree. He's aware of what's happening behind him. He can still hear people fighting and shade us coughing and sputtering behind him. So Elphir thinks that thing's fine. Elphir rounds towards the east where the elemental's been pushed and advances on the elemental and attacks it again.
01:22:57
Speaker
So the first attack is
Combat Reflections and Player Banter
01:23:00
Speaker
a 16. That hits. So that's five points of damage so far. Second attack is a 24.
01:23:19
Speaker
Ah, no way for the critical button to get it. So 24, and that then takes 10 points of magical bludgeoning damage. Lovely, thank you. Still going. I'm still going, sorry, sorry, sorry. No, is it still going? It's still going, yeah. I will then spend another Kai point.
01:23:38
Speaker
And can it make a DC-14 container for it? It gets an actual one. So it is still stung for the end of the round? It is still stung for the end of the round, absolutely, thank you. And you're taking just water that's going to fly everywhere, the mossy pea to the ground is getting more and more soaked, but the creature in front of you seems to have less.
01:23:57
Speaker
body of, quite literally, a body of water upon itself. Robert, your turn, what would you like to do? Sorry? I just want to quickly intervene because we've kind of skipped past it with the reaction and Carly hereby frenzied on the turn before, meaning I can use a bonus action as an attack on my turn, which we never actually did. Apologies, of course. Well, not that's your bad.
01:24:18
Speaker
It is my bad, it jumped in and I didn't say anything but I've just realised it because that was because I was really back. Do you want to the dramatism? I wanted to lie three times. Do you want to take the attack right now? I will take the attack right now, just very very quickly which is a failure because it didn't hit anyway because I rolled a 13. What I did go for a swing. That does miss unfortunately. So I'd say that if we forget attacks
01:24:44
Speaker
It's like the characters themselves have got the attack. I wouldn't allow them to retcon now. The only reason I gave that was because as you were finishing up your turn, I had already rolled Vitalia's attack and the minute you first speak, you went straight into her attack. So that was me kind of rushing through that, not actually giving you the chance. Yeah, EDM. It's OK, Colin. We've been very cordial here. Fuck you, Will. Yes. Fuck you, Will. What's wrong? Your monster stoned? Yeah, it is, you bitch. I want to drown, you bitches.
01:25:14
Speaker
What have you done? I'm going to move. You've fired a billion arrows into it, yeah? No, I'm about to. I can see that this thing is taking a bit of damage. I can see the elf here has stunned it again. I'm going to move, continue to come round until I'm here, so I have scopes and move it in another direction. And same as before, please. Mine's 5 to accuracy plus 10 to damage. Gotcha. So that would be a 23. Yep. Or a 23. 23 will go. Okay, well, 23 on the first one. So throw the damage for that.
01:25:44
Speaker
It takes 23 points of piercing damage, plus six points of sneak attack, so that's 29 points of piercing damage. And with that head, it manages to pierce through the head of this creature. The water just falls to the ground, seeps into the ground, looks like it has a life of its own, and kind of disappear off from the sides as you have destroyed this creature in the north.
01:26:12
Speaker
Yeah, water all mental at the north. And that creature has things. And the hologram, so it dissipates. As you heard Mark narrate it, the hologram actually literally... Well, that wasn't me making any noise, that was literally the hologram making the noise. What's this water around the table now? Oh, it's not real water. Wow, that hologram is great. It's very VGHS for anyone getting that reference. I love you if you do. PM me on that.
01:26:44
Speaker
Okay, yep, go for it. Natural one. Natural one. It's not a natural one, it's 27 to hit. That's not a natural one. Are you doing your minus to accuracy? No, I have to declare that before I do it. No problem. Okay, yep, that hits, obviously. That takes seven points of piercing damage. Lovely, thank you. And can it make a DC 16 shot?
01:27:15
Speaker
it fails the check good it takes three points appear force damage and show that I can get an attack of opportunity okay shadow your attack of opportunity let's roll for an attack of opportunity 23 hits and I get
01:27:32
Speaker
uh nine points of lightning damage thank you and five points of magical slashing damage thank you very much for that um is that your turn robin that's it thank you lovely the uh
01:27:49
Speaker
It's Shader, your turn again. My turn again? The ride you had the water around was going to connect, but that one is... DEED. So it's over to you. Cools is the water element being pushed further south, Shader is basically going to chase after it, anyway, and attempts to go in for what is hopefully going to be the kill. So rolling for the first attack, which is... That's an 11. That's going to miss, unfortunately. A massive miss.
01:28:14
Speaker
Rolling for the second one, that's a natty one! Ooh, can you roll with your 20 again for me please? God damn, Shader, what are you doing to me? Erm, that is a 15. Oh, you're fine, you're fine. Oh, good. Erm, er, bonus attack for the frenzy that I'll roll now. I've had, I've had about 12, and this is as well!
01:28:38
Speaker
Good Lord, you missed everything. Shayna's back. You know what? I tell you what, just because I got, I am actually going to use my action chairs and I'm going to give this another flaming go. So I get another three attacks to try and answer. I thought you'd take one additional action to try and get another two. I get another two attacks. Alright, come on, do so often.
01:29:01
Speaker
That is tear. All right. Come on, five in a row. Five seconds. The worst, the worst act we've done you'll ever see.
01:29:15
Speaker
Can you just roll out d20 one more time for me please? I don't want to! It's a very little check I've got in my head for missing so horrifically. Multiple times. Three! No that's fine. Just imagine the sight before this water elemental. This figure is there and it sees the small dwarf
01:29:36
Speaker
literally bleeding from the nose with rage and fury not from actual damage just from a sodden wet dwarf bleeding from the nose with rage and run forward towards it but just start swinging really too early like someone on tech and he doesn't really know the controls
01:29:52
Speaker
can hit all the buttons as this dwarf is going to fly through the air swinging his axe, missing everything. I'd like to think the water on the mantle shakes its head slightly. I'd just like to envision a shader while he's running towards the elemental, he's swinging wildly and then just gets too tired by the time he gets there. I like that as well. Over your shoulder, Tylia tries to take a shot with a firebolt and accidentally misses and the
01:30:16
Speaker
The water elemental is going to slam down on you and rolls a 20 unnatural for the first hit and a 18. That's an 8 to be. Okay and you take 10, 14, uh, 13, 15, 14, 29, 15. 14 points of bludgeoning damage that's been after
01:30:46
Speaker
It is, yeah. And I've halved it. Elthir, your turn. So Elthir, seeing over quite like far away that he can't actually get to by mortal means. Literally. So Elthir, seeing the walk of the rental having been shot in front of him, sees Shader struggling. Elthir leaps forward and I'd like to use my bonus action to shadow step.
01:31:15
Speaker
So I've gone into the shadows of the trees. Shadows are at 60 feet. Okay. So Elphir literally, the shadows flare up and he disappears and suddenly out of the shadows of this tree, Elphir leaps and Superman punches, literally leaps, Superman punches this water element. Boom, boom, boom, boom. Comes to the Roman Empire. William Empire. Oh my god.
01:31:41
Speaker
I'm the big dog. The big elf at 22 on the first hit. 22 hits. OK. It takes five points of magical budgeting damage. And the water elemental sells it really well. Could it then make, because it's a Superman punch, make a DC-14 on the saving throw? Yes, it kind of fails in misery.
01:32:04
Speaker
come through to me stuff stunned the waters almost vibrating outfit Superman punches lands on his knees and then comes up with the left face for an uppercut now the advantage yep to hit it critically hit whoa fire sea shader this is how it's done please say that your wing can get shade up
01:32:30
Speaker
for 16 points of magical blurting damage and then lands and sort of...
01:32:37
Speaker
Zen. And non-Shader. Yeah! Shader just a bit of that. Having burst! I'll wait till my turn actually. Shader, bearing my mind, has just seen this tree's bark almost a shadow bulge appear as Elphin bursts out of it out of nowhere having travelled 55 feet. Amazing. Brilliant. Thank you for not saying that, Elphin. Great little bit of play there. Robin, your turn. What would you like to do?
01:33:03
Speaker
I say, God love that elf. Under my breath, I'm going to step forward. I take out four arrows ready to axe and surge and shoot it four times. Shit, okay, cool. Can I imagine that you put them all on the boat at the same time? Yeah. I imagine if he comes down and he takes four out, and it's just because he can so elegantly put them through his fingers if that one, and then the next one comes round. Yeah. And it's stunned, isn't it? It is
Conclusion and Audience Appreciation
01:33:31
Speaker
stunned, too. It's an advantage.
01:33:52
Speaker
So that's a 16 points of piercing damage, but I double it or roll again?
01:34:02
Speaker
Okay, so add another 8 to that, so that's 24 points of piercing damage. It takes sneak attack damage as well, which is another 3, so that's 25. Now this is showing off. So sorry guys, if you were expecting a shorter podcast, unusual. Darren needs to roll his damage on a creature that's already dead. Oh my god!
01:34:23
Speaker
You know when you said minus five to accuracy plus ten to damage, when he rolled you hit it was like it's plus ten anyway. Whenever you roll you've killed it and you're like can I roll to see what I've done anyway. So as I throw out the second arrow I realise it's coming apart and go.

and the water elemental explodes behind all over Shader and Elthea drenching them both and the liquid quickly subsides away either into the ground or off distance. The moss below your feet becomes solid again and again you can hear the rustle of trees overhead and that is where we will hold our podcast. What will Drago do on his little trek up Mount Tor? Will he ever do the three peaks and finish his orienteering task around the island?

I like to think they've become in like bad grills. Maybe there's a couple of episodes where we don't see him and the next time he's just like follow me. I love how he's so blind because he's completely dark. You feel this? I like picking a voice scout instead. Yeah, you picked up your destroy corpse badge. You picked up your lose to an old man badge. You're doing really well at the moment. You picked up your killer dog badge and you killed that dog. So much happened.

If you wanted to keep in touch with the podcast, you can find us on our collective Twitter page, which is at Fellowship Table. And you can then follow us if you really want to in our individual Twitters. Mine is at iWorldA1.

Do you want to give that one to Callum after tonight? Yeah, I know. I haven't rolled a one this season yet. Do we have to do that? I know. Mark my words hasn't happened yet. Alright, now it's Darren Peyjo's sixth. Please don't send me hate because I'll smug about my arrows. Send him love about his balding... About his fabulous... About his Professor X. And I'm at... I've actually forgotten...

Oh my god, William. Deal with it! While William takes a moment to double check and just find out what the hell his Twitter handle is, I am Shader, and ironically, my Twitter handle was TheD20Gamer, which could not be more wrong, based off of this little episode. And just to let you know that Will's one is AtNatural20Will, which I rolled at least two of tonight, so... Oh, get lost.
