Introduction to 'Live, Learn, Survive'
00:00:11
Speaker
Hi, I'm Trent Maxwell.
00:00:13
Speaker
And I'm Lee Mason.
00:00:14
Speaker
And we want to welcome you to our Live, Learn, Survive podcast.
00:00:18
Speaker
Since 2018, Lee and I have traveled the globe and met face-to-face with over 14,000 children.
00:00:22
Speaker
We've created a series of children's books and Max's Rescue Squad where teens and young adults can learn life skills online that will not only help themselves but help others too.
00:00:30
Speaker
We take what we do very seriously, ourselves not so much as you soon will hear.
00:00:34
Speaker
So let's spend the next half an hour together with some fun, inspiration and kindness and we'll try and learn something
Weekly Catch-Up and Fitness
00:00:39
Speaker
I'm joined here with my business partner.
00:00:49
Speaker
Another busy week.
00:00:53
Speaker
We've got an actually packed episode for everyone today, which would be fun.
00:00:59
Speaker
So you've had a busy morning.
00:01:00
Speaker
You've been bike riding, I saw.
00:01:02
Speaker
Yeah, I went bike riding this morning at Sunrise, which was awesome in the bush up on the north side.
00:01:08
Speaker
And you've done Pilates.
00:01:10
Speaker
Yeah, I was at Pilates and I just had Physio who crushed me.
00:01:17
Speaker
But it's all good.
00:01:20
Speaker
So yeah, now we're here.
00:01:23
Speaker
It's like we've got the notes.
00:01:25
Speaker
Yeah, no, it's good.
00:01:28
Speaker
Again, Thursday afternoon, just before our classic Friday post-up.
00:01:34
Speaker
But yeah, a lot's happened since last Friday.
00:01:36
Speaker
So we're going to be talking a lot of detail and hopefully... Yeah, filling everybody in on our week.
Quote of the Week: Authenticity
00:01:45
Speaker
So yeah, so start us off then, Maxie.
00:01:46
Speaker
What's that quote this week?
00:01:49
Speaker
The quote this week is, be fearlessly authentic.
00:01:54
Speaker
I think that's really good.
00:01:55
Speaker
So you just need to be true to yourself, be authentic.
00:01:59
Speaker
Don't let anyone take you for a ride.
00:02:01
Speaker
Know what your goals are, know what your drive and your aspirations are and yeah, just stay true to yourself.
00:02:09
Speaker
And be fearless about it.
00:02:11
Speaker
Don't, don't worry about it.
00:02:12
Speaker
Just be true to yourself and, and don't be afraid not to be because that's the most important thing.
00:02:19
Speaker
And being authentic, as we're always right from the start, when we talk about the can you remember when, it's something that we've tried to do with Live, Learn, Survive and Max's Rescue Squad and just things that revolve around what we do by staying authentic and not, you know, doing anything too off the road, off the path.
00:02:43
Speaker
Yeah, we are who we are.
00:02:46
Speaker
People like us or they don't, and that's cool.
00:02:50
Speaker
There's plenty of others out there if they don't like us.
00:02:52
Speaker
I think there's more that like us.
00:02:54
Speaker
As if they wouldn't.
00:02:55
Speaker
What's not to love anyway?
00:02:57
Speaker
Well, I've just got to ask Bob Dean, the complaints department.
00:03:00
Speaker
Hey, Bob, any complaints this week?
00:03:03
Speaker
What, two bags full?
00:03:06
Speaker
Sorry, you just said there's no bags.
00:03:08
Speaker
No bags, no bags full.
00:03:11
Speaker
He's working through them in the background, Bob, Bob and Complaints.
00:03:16
Speaker
Send them all back, Bob.
00:03:17
Speaker
That's all good, all good.
00:03:18
Speaker
So, yeah, perfect.
00:03:21
Speaker
Be fearlessly authentic.
00:03:23
Speaker
So where are we going, Maxie?
00:03:26
Speaker
What are we going to talk about today?
00:03:33
Speaker
Can you remember when?
Vision Board Reflection
00:03:36
Speaker
Well, we wanted to talk today, not so much about trips we've done in the past, but we wanted to talk about vision and the vision board that we created back in 2016.
00:03:47
Speaker
2016, we caught up.
00:03:48
Speaker
I flew up to Brisbane.
00:03:50
Speaker
Went to the back deck of your place.
00:03:53
Speaker
And we got a mood board, like a vision board, a mood board.
00:03:57
Speaker
And you had some pins, you had some cutouts, you had some... Yeah.
00:04:02
Speaker
pictures and some wording and yeah we sat there and we we just put a vision board where we want this be in you know that time a year five years ten years yeah and the scary thing is and a lot of people probably don't realize this is the
00:04:21
Speaker
That's when we checked the vision board, I don't know, what, probably 12 months ago?
00:04:26
Speaker
You just, because it's in your office or is it in our office?
00:04:29
Speaker
Yeah, and it was like it was sort of stuck behind a couple of other boards of stuff and I was having a bit of sort out.
00:04:37
Speaker
And we noticed, or you met Remy straight away, and we noticed that we've achieved pretty much everything that was on that vision board from 2016.
00:04:45
Speaker
So this is before Live, Learn, Survive started.
00:04:49
Speaker
This is when I remember, like, you know, first meeting you and it was like, you know, well, what's your plan, Maxie?
00:04:55
Speaker
What are you going to do with this life?
00:04:57
Speaker
Yeah, two years working together.
00:05:00
Speaker
So this is before the books.
00:05:03
Speaker
the rescue squad everything so um it's pretty crazy to think or see um you know what we've achieved you know in four years it's it's amazing and you know a lot of hard work with yourself and other people that have helped us along the way so thank you for that yeah and uh we just stayed true and i even noticed just looking at it today because i i dragged it out because we said we were going to talk about it and um
00:05:30
Speaker
One of the first things that we put on there was a book.
00:05:32
Speaker
I actually put book one, two, three, four.
00:05:36
Speaker
And we got four books.
00:05:39
Speaker
It is, yeah, it gives me shivers.
00:05:40
Speaker
It gives me shivers, you know, with the merchandise and bits and pieces that we've done.
00:05:45
Speaker
But we're not done and there's a lot of amazing things that we're doing in seven to eight weeks' time.
00:05:51
Speaker
and we'll be talking about good news and random act of kindness very shortly.
00:05:55
Speaker
So I think the thing with that is to say to people that if you've got a bit of an idea and you have these little ideas and thought bubbles and things, just collect pictures and stick them on a board.
00:06:06
Speaker
You never know because once you see them, they're in your subconscious and then –
00:06:11
Speaker
that, you know, when they're in your subconscious, that's you, you work towards them.
00:06:15
Speaker
So, um, and we were doing that and we kind of didn't even realize we were saying so true to the path of what some of those first ideas was, but it just shows you we were, we were right with what we were thinking and what we believed in.
00:06:30
Speaker
It's like a higher being or something that looks down.
00:06:33
Speaker
It's like your path's already set in a way because we'll think it out and we'll write it down and we've achieved it subconsciously.
00:06:40
Speaker
So yeah, adding on to what you're saying, just if you have got some ideas or you want to
00:06:46
Speaker
visualize and have a mood board, do it and yeah, just put it away for a couple of years or just try and keep looking at it along the way and tick it off.
00:06:56
Speaker
And you'll be surprised how much you achieve in such a small amount of time of your life.
00:07:04
Speaker
Can you remember when this week?
00:07:07
Speaker
Yep, there we go, the vision board.
00:07:10
Speaker
So yeah, good one, good exercise to do.
00:07:13
Speaker
And it can be anything.
00:07:14
Speaker
It can be about a business.
00:07:15
Speaker
It can be even about your life.
00:07:17
Speaker
So any goals you've got, stick them down and see if yours evolve.
00:07:25
Speaker
What's that, four, six years later?
00:07:30
Speaker
Still kicking goals.
00:07:34
Speaker
Oh, you were so young then, Maxie.
00:07:37
Speaker
You were so young.
00:07:39
Speaker
I run the whole way uphill barefoot with bindies on.
00:07:45
Speaker
You look younger than me.
00:07:48
Speaker
Benjamin Button, me.
00:07:49
Speaker
I'm going backwards.
00:07:50
Speaker
Yeah, I'm getting around like Benjamin Button.
00:07:54
Speaker
I reckon 15 years' time, we'll look the same age.
00:07:57
Speaker
Yeah, I reckon five.
00:08:00
Speaker
Thanks, I'll take that.
00:08:02
Speaker
Anyway, moving on.
00:08:04
Speaker
All right, moving on.
00:08:05
Speaker
So what good news?
00:08:07
Speaker
What have we got this week?
00:08:08
Speaker
We must have some good news.
00:08:13
Speaker
So good news this week.
00:08:15
Speaker
As always, we always have good news and random act of kindness.
00:08:19
Speaker
But I've got here.
00:08:21
Speaker
The book's got to Dubai.
00:08:22
Speaker
So that's the good news.
Books in Dubai and Educational Impact
00:08:24
Speaker
The good news is the book's arrived in Dubai and we were talking about this last week on the show.
00:08:30
Speaker
But yeah, the book's got there and within five minutes,
00:08:33
Speaker
hours of the gentleman landing in Dubai airport.
00:08:36
Speaker
They're already on the beach in the kids' hands and we're getting videos and photos sent from the Viking Sports Club.
00:08:42
Speaker
So, you know, it's amazing to see the smiles on the kids' faces and, you know, they're doing such an amazing job on the sands there of Dubai teaching the, you know, the local children.
00:08:54
Speaker
or the people that are visiting children and adults, life-saving skills.
00:08:58
Speaker
And these books are filled with life-saving skills.
00:09:01
Speaker
So hopefully we can keep adding to their goal of getting everyone, you know, skilled up.
00:09:08
Speaker
And they barely, you know, I'd barely got home and, you know, unpacked my shop in.
00:09:12
Speaker
from my little time in Brizzy and the books were already in Dubai on the beach so that was just awesome to you know wake up and get those messages and photos from the kids so yeah so that was great news and yeah we've got some you know the UK it's getting busier it's filling up lots of things happening
00:09:34
Speaker
Yeah, I was actually talking and you haven't, one of the families from down Poleseth got in touch with me saying, I just heard the news, you're coming back, so excited.
00:09:46
Speaker
So, you know, people that we've met along the way are starting to get in touch and getting very excited and,
00:09:51
Speaker
I think you were saying the other day that the first, pretty much the first quarter or the first half of the trip is pretty much locked it, like ready to go.
00:09:58
Speaker
Yeah, the first sort of eight, nine days is already, yeah, locked and loaded and pretty much, you know, it's probably 75% we know what we're doing now and, yeah, just like getting next to the finer detail now and find how we're going to get around, mate.
00:10:23
Speaker
It'll be a lot of fun.
00:10:25
Speaker
So that's been great.
00:10:26
Speaker
So, um, and random act
Kindness Story: Kai's Donation
00:10:28
Speaker
I've got a nice random act of kindness.
00:10:32
Speaker
So a few weeks ago when we did, um, another of our gift of book, save a life, um, donations, one of my friends brought me a $5 note, which was from her son, Kai.
00:10:45
Speaker
And Kai, um, gave us his pocket money to put towards a book to go to a school.
00:10:51
Speaker
So I made a point of keeping that $5 note in my head.
00:10:55
Speaker
Anyway, we've got the trivia night coming up.
00:10:58
Speaker
So I went and met the amazing people at the Redlands Sporting Club that are helping us get the trivia night together.
00:11:06
Speaker
And they gave me five kids gift dinner vouchers.
00:11:13
Speaker
So they said, if we've got people with kids coming along to the, we can hand out these dinner vouchers.
00:11:19
Speaker
So I've got those up my sleeve, but I thought...
00:11:22
Speaker
The random, you know, Kyle gave us, Kyle, sorry, gave us $5.
00:11:27
Speaker
So I've given Kyle through his mom a dinner voucher and said, you tell Kyle to come and have dinner with me and Maxie before we do the trivia.
00:11:36
Speaker
Ah, that's awesome.
00:11:38
Speaker
So Kyle, you know, what you give, you know, what, what you give away comes back to you.
00:11:43
Speaker
At a very young age, he's going to know.
00:11:45
Speaker
He did something nice for them, for someone else that's going to get a book.
00:11:49
Speaker
So we're doing something nice for him.
00:11:51
Speaker
Thanks to the Redlands people.
00:11:53
Speaker
And he's coming to have dinner with us.
00:11:57
Speaker
I think he's got a pass out from sport.
00:12:00
Speaker
Don't tell anybody why he won't be at sport that night because he's having dinner with Maxie.
00:12:07
Speaker
No one will know that.
00:12:08
Speaker
Well, I'll make him feel very welcome and I'll make him feel like a star because, you know,
00:12:13
Speaker
Kai giving up his pocket money to buy a book for someone else is a great thing.
00:12:18
Speaker
And I'm going to make sure I shine a lot of light on that when I see him.
00:12:23
Speaker
Yeah, so it doesn't mean we're going to give him any questions and make him, you know, give him any heads up with a quiz, but he's coming for dinner with us.
00:12:31
Speaker
So, yeah, we can't wait to meet you, Kai.
00:12:36
Speaker
So that's the random act of kindness.
00:12:39
Speaker
One deserves another.
00:12:41
Speaker
So what have we got next, Maxi?
00:12:44
Speaker
It's been so busy, I'm almost frightened to ask.
00:12:47
Speaker
Come on, we got any music for this?
00:12:51
Speaker
I'm glad I'm set now.
00:12:57
Speaker
And another busy week at the Action Station.
00:13:00
Speaker
I know, because I got a couple of texts that explained it a bit.
00:13:04
Speaker
Yeah, it was like far out or something like that.
00:13:09
Speaker
So tell us, what's been going off at the Action Station?
Fire Station Experiences
00:13:12
Speaker
Okay, so before I speak about the fires, I did two lifeguard shifts, which was good.
00:13:19
Speaker
Good to be on the sand over the last few weeks.
00:13:22
Speaker
I've had a couple of weeks off, so it's good to be on the sand.
00:13:25
Speaker
But in between my fiery days, our last shift, we had two car accidents, persons trapped.
00:13:33
Speaker
We had a house fire, a bin fire, concern for welfare, medical access emergency,
00:13:39
Speaker
We had, what else did we have?
00:13:44
Speaker
We had the deputy commissioner come right along with us, which was awesome experience.
00:13:49
Speaker
You know, someone that's high up along the chain that, that do a lot of thing for the, for the brigade and everything we do.
00:13:57
Speaker
We had him right along with us.
00:13:58
Speaker
So there's a lot of, a lot of action for him.
00:14:01
Speaker
And you know, it was, it was, he was really accommodating.
00:14:07
Speaker
pretty much do everything what you do at Fire Station throughout the day.
00:14:10
Speaker
And, you know, we look forward to hopefully having him back again for more action.
00:14:15
Speaker
But, yeah, it was really good to have someone with rank come and spend the day with us and just see how the day-to-day stuff it.
00:14:24
Speaker
So you looked after him.
00:14:28
Speaker
No messing around on the team when you've got to look after the boss.
00:14:32
Speaker
So, yeah, it was good, but it was such a busy day.
00:14:35
Speaker
We didn't eat dinner until 9.30 at night.
00:14:39
Speaker
So it was just from call to call to call to call to call.
00:14:43
Speaker
And, yeah, but, you know, I love it because it's so busy and it's always something going on.
00:14:48
Speaker
And, you know, I do miss the city, but, you know, where I am at now, it's, yeah, action.
00:14:57
Speaker
It's the action station.
00:14:58
Speaker
So, well, hopefully none of those were too serious and everyone was okay.
00:15:05
Speaker
Yeah, everyone survived.
00:15:07
Speaker
The car accidents were pretty decent, but, yeah, we got them out.
00:15:09
Speaker
The house fire, we knocked it down pretty quick.
00:15:11
Speaker
So, yeah, it was a good result all around.
00:15:14
Speaker
But I do have some – it's not an unfortunate event because we always used to have a little bit of fun with that.
Bondi Beach Shark Attack Discussion
00:15:20
Speaker
But before we go to the actually unfortunate event, this is pretty sad though.
00:15:24
Speaker
Just yesterday, the first shark attack in 60 years happened about 10, 15km south of Bondi.
00:15:32
Speaker
Unfortunately, the gentleman passed away.
00:15:35
Speaker
But yeah, the thing, it was a four-metre great white that took him from the fishermen that saw the attack happened.
00:15:44
Speaker
And unfortunately, there was footage of the attack.
00:15:49
Speaker
And that's horrific.
00:15:51
Speaker
So, you know, my thoughts are with him, his family, and everyone that was involved.
00:15:56
Speaker
And it's never easy.
00:15:57
Speaker
But, yeah, first shark attack in 60 years here in Sydney where it's been a fatal one.
00:16:02
Speaker
So there's a lot of people on their toes.
00:16:05
Speaker
But, yeah, I just want to shine light on that.
00:16:07
Speaker
It was very unfortunate.
00:16:10
Speaker
Hopefully, yeah, he's at peace.
00:16:13
Speaker
I think as well, Maxie, that's like, you know, so, so sad.
00:16:17
Speaker
Someone going into the ocean just to have a swim and doing what everyone, you know, does all around Australia every day of the year.
00:16:26
Speaker
But as we always say, when we get asked questions about sharks and you always tell kids around schools and things like that,
00:16:33
Speaker
Is it only, correct me if I'm wrong, only two that you've seen working?
00:16:38
Speaker
I've only seen three over the years working.
00:16:42
Speaker
But I know that I'm not naive to know that they're not out there.
00:16:45
Speaker
It's just every time I've worked, I've just only seen a couple.
00:16:49
Speaker
Well, hopefully it doesn't make people too anxious, you know, going at them.
00:16:54
Speaker
I think you just need to have the respect of the ocean and know that –
00:16:58
Speaker
you know, there's potential that you could be attacked.
00:17:01
Speaker
And, you know, it's scary to think, but it is the ocean and, you know, it doesn't matter if it's sharks, powerful waves, currents, you know,
00:17:13
Speaker
The ocean's the ocean and you need to respect it.
00:17:17
Speaker
Respect it and all those that live in it.
Plover Bird Encounter
00:17:24
Speaker
But we still have some unfortunate news.
00:17:27
Speaker
Well, this was me.
00:17:30
Speaker
Yeah, there it is.
00:17:33
Speaker
So what's happened?
00:17:35
Speaker
Well, this started about three weeks ago, if I'm honest.
00:17:39
Speaker
We had another family move into our place.
00:17:45
Speaker
We weren't invited.
00:17:46
Speaker
like a little family of plovers.
00:17:48
Speaker
Now, anyone that doesn't know what a plover is, it's an Australian native bird.
00:17:56
Speaker
They're quite noisy.
00:17:57
Speaker
They've got a bit of a, you know, anyway, this, you know, mum and dad plover decided to settle down and lay their eggs on our front garden, right near the post box, right near the drive.
00:18:14
Speaker
So, you know, for four weeks, there's been about a, you know, because what people won't realise in Queensland at the moment, in the height of summer, you have to cut your grass and like, you know, mow your lawn about every 10 days because that's like, it's crazy time.
00:18:28
Speaker
So we haven't been able to cut, you know, we've got, they've got this sort of square of jungle to themselves now because they've been there making their little family.
00:18:37
Speaker
Yesterday morning, first chick was born.
00:18:42
Speaker
So we got the fluffiest, fluffiest little chick.
00:18:45
Speaker
And within the last hour, as I'm speaking now, the second has hatched.
00:18:51
Speaker
So we've got two little chicks.
00:18:53
Speaker
So, you know, we're taking care of this little family.
00:18:57
Speaker
Everyone in the street know they're there.
00:18:58
Speaker
We're all looking out for them.
00:19:00
Speaker
But last night, things turned a bit ugly because Andrew and I, we went out for a walk.
00:19:05
Speaker
It was almost, we went out just before sunset.
00:19:08
Speaker
It was still light.
00:19:09
Speaker
But by the time we got home, it was just about almost dark.
00:19:13
Speaker
Dad decides to claim our place and not let us.
00:19:19
Speaker
back onto our driveway and he swooped Andrew three times we couldn't get home we couldn't get to the front door so obviously I let Andrew go first because I don't want to be the one that's sweet I've been sweet by a magpie before that's not nice and he was
00:19:37
Speaker
He was flying and just doing like got within like half a meter and peeled off.
00:19:42
Speaker
Feared you off, yeah.
00:19:44
Speaker
And then Andrew got to the front door and he shouts, you know, you'll be right, Lee.
00:19:49
Speaker
So I had to like hug the hedge.
00:19:52
Speaker
So now I don't know what for the next three weeks.
00:19:55
Speaker
Well, you'll be up here by then.
00:19:57
Speaker
I think we can only leave the house in a car and come back in a car straight into the garage.
00:20:03
Speaker
Bring up some boxing gloves.
00:20:07
Speaker
So the plovers have claimed the house.
00:20:10
Speaker
They've moved in and we're not allowed to leave.
00:20:13
Speaker
Yeah, well, I'm sorry to hear.
00:20:16
Speaker
That's unfortunate.
00:20:18
Speaker
It is unfortunate because I can't fetch my mail for three weeks.
00:20:22
Speaker
I don't know if anyone's written to me.
00:20:23
Speaker
Anyone that's sending Lee mail, yeah, just send an email instead.
00:20:29
Speaker
No post because there's no one brave enough to go to the post box.
00:20:32
Speaker
You take your life in your hands.
00:20:34
Speaker
I'll send you when you get here.
00:20:36
Speaker
For me this week, I stubbed my toe.
00:20:43
Speaker
And stubbing your toe hurts and it's not good and you have to walk it off or try to walk it off.
00:20:47
Speaker
Every time you kick your toe, you think you've broken your toe, but it's just your body going up.
00:20:52
Speaker
And you did that walk again, didn't you, that pretended you hadn't done it.
00:20:55
Speaker
You like made it into a bit of a hop and it's not hurting.
00:20:59
Speaker
Anyway, that's all good, but it wasn't that unfortunate.
00:21:02
Speaker
Just a little bit of a kick.
00:21:05
Speaker
In saying that, though, I'm glad that nature's chosen your place.
00:21:11
Speaker
They obviously know.
00:21:12
Speaker
There must be something about us because my dad's got a family of curlews that are about on their fifth lot of, you know, family generations.
00:21:21
Speaker
So it must be something about my family.
00:21:23
Speaker
We obviously look like a nice place to hang out.
00:21:30
Speaker
So what have we got next, Maxine?
00:21:31
Speaker
What are you going to tell us?
00:21:37
Speaker
All right, tip of the week this
Lake Safety Video
00:21:39
Speaker
We are still in Victoria with the videos that we made, but it's safety at the lake.
00:21:45
Speaker
So we talk a five to seven minute video about lake safety and what to do around the lake.
00:21:51
Speaker
So it's the first time we've actually done that at a lake.
00:21:53
Speaker
We've done rivers, we've done beaches, we've done pools.
00:21:57
Speaker
We have not done a lake, so...
00:22:00
Speaker
People are part of the rescue squad.
00:22:02
Speaker
You'll be seeing a video about lakes and how to be safe around a lake.
00:22:05
Speaker
So I hope you all enjoy.
00:22:06
Speaker
There's still another three weeks of Victoria kind of themed videos.
00:22:12
Speaker
But the beauty of it is when we do catch up, I'm back up in Brisbane in two weeks.
00:22:15
Speaker
We're going to be filming a whole bunch more videos.
00:22:18
Speaker
And then when we're in England, we're going to be filming a whole bunch more.
00:22:22
Speaker
You know, you get the drift.
00:22:24
Speaker
So over the weeks or months, there'll be a set theme of maybe the parts of Australia that myself and you are at least.
00:22:32
Speaker
So yeah, safety of the lakes this week.
00:22:35
Speaker
And moving right along, the playlist this week, we got Rob, one of our Polish lifeguards.
Music Addition: 'I Bet My Life'
00:22:41
Speaker
It's a valid member of the rescue squad.
00:22:44
Speaker
He's always in touch with us, big supporter.
00:22:46
Speaker
He sent me a song request, I Bet My Life,
00:22:50
Speaker
We buy Imagine Dragons.
00:22:53
Speaker
So I've already added it to the Rescue Squad.
00:22:55
Speaker
It's already in there.
00:22:56
Speaker
I think we've got 64, 65 songs now.
00:22:59
Speaker
So if you want to listen to the playlist, Spotify, Max's Rescue Squad, you cannot miss it.
00:23:06
Speaker
You know, especially if you listen to this podcast regularly,
00:23:08
Speaker
on Spotify, you know, just add the playlist of Max's Rescue Squad.
00:23:12
Speaker
You never know when you might need some upbeat, some inspiration from people from all over the world throwing in their favourite songs.
00:23:19
Speaker
So, yeah, I bet my life by Imagine Dragons.
00:23:23
Speaker
Thank you, Rob, for that.
00:23:24
Speaker
Awesome, awesome, awesome.
00:23:26
Speaker
And he's probably listening to it as well as listening to this as well because he'll be doing it while he's running because we know that's what he does.
00:23:32
Speaker
He's a good man, Rob.
00:23:35
Speaker
So, fast five, not so fast.
00:23:38
Speaker
Fast five, not so fast.
00:23:47
Speaker
You've been in charge of this this week, Maxie.
00:23:52
Speaker
So, first question.
Book Writing Jokes
00:23:54
Speaker
If you were to write a book, what would it be about?
00:24:00
Speaker
Now, I haven't had very long to think about this, but obviously we've written a couple of books, but I was thinking if I was going to do a different kind of book, I think I'm going to do Working with Maxie.
00:24:16
Speaker
behind the scenes, what you really want to know.
00:24:22
Speaker
All, all these, all these habits.
00:24:25
Speaker
Grumpiness before coffee.
00:24:29
Speaker
The truth, but nothing.
00:24:30
Speaker
That's what I'm going to call it.
00:24:31
Speaker
Working with Maxie.
00:24:36
Speaker
I'm just going to.
00:24:38
Speaker
Working with Maxie, nothing but the truth.
00:24:40
Speaker
Nothing but the truth.
00:24:41
Speaker
I'm just writing that down actually.
00:24:43
Speaker
So you answer yours while I write that down because that's a working title.
00:24:48
Speaker
What was it called?
00:24:49
Speaker
Working with Maxie, nothing but the truth.
00:24:55
Speaker
Well, if I was to write a book, I've already done four, but it's, you know,
00:25:00
Speaker
fiction kind of kids' books.
00:25:02
Speaker
But if I was ever to write an older book, I'm tossing up between a history sort of style of book of just like what I've, you know, what I've kind of gathered along the way and or a philosophy book with, you know, everyone thinks differently and everyone acts differently and everyone is different but always kind of wonder what I feel and what I think and what my –
00:25:30
Speaker
My aura is I'll put a pen to paper of my thoughts.
00:25:34
Speaker
It would be interesting to see or my outlook on life.
00:25:37
Speaker
I should say thoughts.
00:25:38
Speaker
It would be more of a diary then.
00:25:40
Speaker
But just philosophy.
00:25:42
Speaker
I reckon that would be pretty cool.
00:25:43
Speaker
Maxi the philosopher.
00:25:44
Speaker
I'm just writing that down as well.
00:25:45
Speaker
Maxi the philosopher.
00:25:48
Speaker
Actually, Maxi, my phone is ringing.
00:25:50
Speaker
That's the publisher just wants to talk to us about a couple of ideas.
00:25:53
Speaker
Maxi the philosopher.
00:25:54
Speaker
Maxi the philosopher.
00:26:00
Speaker
That's like a few nights in the pub right there.
00:26:05
Speaker
So, yeah, that's all right then.
00:26:06
Speaker
So, right, what have we got next then?
00:26:09
Speaker
Number two, what dinner dish is your best?
00:26:11
Speaker
So dinner, I understand in the UK dinner it means lunch, but tea.
00:26:16
Speaker
What's your dinner, tea, best dish that you cook at home, that you would cook?
00:26:24
Speaker
Well, as you know.
00:26:27
Speaker
I've got my one recipe.
00:26:29
Speaker
It's obviously going to be veggie lasagna.
00:26:34
Speaker
But over the last month, I've made a veggie cottage pie.
00:26:44
Speaker
You would probably be a bit horrified at the thought of a veggie cottage pie.
00:26:49
Speaker
I reckon it would be good.
00:26:51
Speaker
I reckon it would be good.
00:26:53
Speaker
But my go-to, my veggie lasagna, never disappoints.
00:26:56
Speaker
Never disappoints, Maxi.
00:26:58
Speaker
Veggie just, yeah.
00:27:00
Speaker
Have you got a new or a year?
00:27:03
Speaker
So, obviously, the chicken mushroom risotto I've mastered.
00:27:07
Speaker
I've perfected it.
00:27:08
Speaker
Every time I've cooked at the Fire Station or for Talia or for other people, they love it.
00:27:14
Speaker
Recently at the fire station we made pasta, our own pasta, homemade pasta.
00:27:19
Speaker
So I wouldn't mind doing my own beef ragu homemade pasta, slow-cooked beef ragu one day.
00:27:28
Speaker
So maybe I'll have to, yeah.
00:27:29
Speaker
Well, you're here in two weeks.
00:27:31
Speaker
I've got a pasta maker.
00:27:34
Speaker
We'll get into it.
00:27:37
Speaker
We cook along with Maxie.
00:27:39
Speaker
Cook along with Maxie.
00:27:43
Speaker
So number three, street smarts or book smarts?
Street Smarts vs Book Smarts
00:27:50
Speaker
Can I go a bit of both?
00:27:57
Speaker
You're going to say no, Lee.
00:27:57
Speaker
You're not having your cake.
00:27:59
Speaker
You have to pick one.
00:28:05
Speaker
Probably street smarts.
00:28:09
Speaker
Locking it in, street smarts.
00:28:13
Speaker
Me will be street smarts because I know that is me, street smarts.
00:28:18
Speaker
I reckon if I put my mind to it, I could be book smarts.
00:28:20
Speaker
But for me and my personality and, you know, just the work that I do, it has to be street smarts.
00:28:27
Speaker
Yeah, I think me too.
00:28:29
Speaker
Like exactly the same.
00:28:32
Speaker
I would love to read more books and all the rest of it.
00:28:35
Speaker
But I do have to really concentrate and challenge.
00:28:39
Speaker
And I just think street smarts, you learn so much from watching other people, watching people that are older than you, watching mentors and like, you know, so I think street smart can get you a good audience.
00:28:51
Speaker
good long way and do you well in life that's just my opinion so that's a good question good question maxi so um so yeah so um next one then what was your last impulse buy
00:29:09
Speaker
You've got me on this one.
00:29:10
Speaker
I was trying to think because I was in the city last week and I was trying to think what I bought.
00:29:20
Speaker
And really, it was for Andrew's birthday.
00:29:23
Speaker
And I probably can't say what it is because...
00:29:26
Speaker
um oh he's gonna hear this before his birthday um but yeah i i i i'm not very good with that one i can't think i can't think what other but oh i know the the thing before that is when um oh this is it yeah my last impulse buy um was i was on hold to an airline and
00:29:49
Speaker
And Andrew said to me, you're going to be there ages, try and do, just put it on speaker and, you know, do something else at the same time.
00:29:57
Speaker
And I ended up buying a ice bucket that doubles as a table as a mini bar for outside.
00:30:03
Speaker
And it came two days later and it was lovely.
00:30:05
Speaker
So, yeah, that was a bit of an impulse buy.
00:30:07
Speaker
So what about yourself?
00:30:09
Speaker
Yeah, bought a mountain bike.
00:30:11
Speaker
Yeah, just went on there, bought it, bikes online and come two days later.
00:30:17
Speaker
So for me, it was a brand new mountain bike.
00:30:20
Speaker
So was that the bike that I saw on the stories this morning?
00:30:28
Speaker
Well, you are using it, so that's good.
00:30:29
Speaker
Yeah, I am using it.
00:30:31
Speaker
I'm going to be using it a lot.
00:30:36
Speaker
So right, what's the last one then, Maxi?
00:30:38
Speaker
So number five, what is the punchline to your favourite joke?
00:30:43
Speaker
Well, my favourite joke, I might have even said this on here before, so there's going to be a silence because I've got to say it in my head.
00:30:54
Speaker
And the punchline is half an hour.
00:31:02
Speaker
So what's the joke?
00:31:05
Speaker
So that's the punchline.
00:31:07
Speaker
Oh, no, is that the answer?
00:31:08
Speaker
No, well, yeah, that's the answer.
00:31:09
Speaker
So you've got to say the joke, the punchline.
00:31:11
Speaker
Oh, the punchline.
00:31:13
Speaker
So, for example, mine would be, I've got a few, but why can't a bicycle stand on its own?
00:31:23
Speaker
Because it's too tired.
00:31:24
Speaker
Oh, right, okay, okay, sorry.
00:31:28
Speaker
I should have let you go first.
00:31:29
Speaker
I misunderstood the question.
00:31:31
Speaker
I misunderstood the question.
00:31:35
Speaker
What do the donkeys at Blackpool have for lunch?
00:31:46
Speaker
I've got one more for everyone.
00:31:48
Speaker
Did you hear about the guy who invented the knock-knock joke?
00:31:55
Speaker
He won the Nobel Prize.
00:32:02
Speaker
How could we have missed it?
00:32:03
Speaker
How could we have missed it?
00:32:04
Speaker
My favorite all-time one is, did you hear about the fire at the circus?
00:32:09
Speaker
That's my favorite.
00:32:09
Speaker
I've said that one before.
00:32:11
Speaker
Well, sorry I messed that up.
00:32:13
Speaker
If we'd have edited this, you would have said, back up the truck, Lee.
00:32:22
Speaker
It's been a massive week and I could tell, you know, we're winding down into this weekend.
00:32:27
Speaker
But, you know, what we're doing, the work that we do, we don't sleep or we don't stop.
00:32:32
Speaker
But I appreciate all the hard work you've done this week, Lee, and I've told you countless amount of times.
00:32:37
Speaker
You have, you have, you have.
00:32:38
Speaker
It has been a bit of a crazy one.
00:32:41
Speaker
I've been working a lot on the boats and a bit of life getting firefighting just to get ahead for having the month or five weeks over in UK just to be comfortable.
00:32:52
Speaker
So, yeah, I appreciate all the work that you, Tiff, Simone, you know, we've got a full team now.
00:32:57
Speaker
Yeah, we've got the squad backing us up and bobbing complaints.
00:33:02
Speaker
He's like, you know.
Rule of Engagement: Exceeding Expectations
00:33:04
Speaker
I feel like we're wrapping this up, but as in we should do the rule for the rule book.
00:33:10
Speaker
So I'll do that first.
00:33:14
Speaker
Rule for the rule book.
00:33:23
Speaker
Under promise, over deliver.
00:33:27
Speaker
So under promise, so don't promise the world, and then over deliver, over, you know, overachieve what you're trying to do.
00:33:35
Speaker
So then you'll always exceed people's expectations.
00:33:39
Speaker
And that's a better place to be because there's nothing where no one wants to be the over promiser and the under deliverer.
00:33:47
Speaker
Because that's just like you don't want to be in that one.
00:33:49
Speaker
So always under promise, over deliver.
00:33:53
Speaker
And then you'll always be on the right side of people.
00:33:57
Speaker
And I thought, yeah, that's a good rule.
00:33:59
Speaker
Good rule for the rule book.
Episode Wrap-Up and Future Plans
00:34:04
Speaker
Well, like I said, it's been a busy week.
00:34:06
Speaker
Now, I like to think you've got the afternoon free.
00:34:11
Speaker
I'm on night shift tonight from 4 till 2 in the morning on the Navy ship.
00:34:16
Speaker
So, I'm going to go do some hot and cold therapy, go to the sauna, get ready for that.
00:34:22
Speaker
You put your feet up, have a cup of tea.
00:34:25
Speaker
You are hilarious.
00:34:26
Speaker
Absolutely hilarious.
00:34:28
Speaker
Well, I'm going to go and have my lunch and then I'm going to start on the next wave of England and all the people that have messaged me that I owe replies to.
00:34:39
Speaker
I'll be speaking to you throughout the afternoon anyway.
00:34:42
Speaker
So I've just had my little physio and self-care.
00:34:48
Speaker
So now you go and look after yourself and
00:34:51
Speaker
because then we'll be tour fit.
00:34:54
Speaker
I'm getting ready for England's water.
00:34:56
Speaker
I'm jumping into a four-degree pool this afternoon.
00:35:01
Speaker
Then we'll all be tour fit and we'll have the strength and stamina to get around the UK.
00:35:11
Speaker
because as we know Maxie there ain't no entourage it's me and you mate that luggage needs lifting you're lifting it or maybe me anyway but it's been a great episode once again I hope everyone enjoyed it please send your complaints to Bob if you have any complaints but if everything's good we'll see you all next week exactly have a good week everyone bye take care everyone
