Introduction and Transfer Rumors Overview

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Daily Manchester United. It's me, Kieran, just me today, as we go through some quite important transfer rumours.

Financial Implications and Strategy

00:00:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, it's January, if you couldn't already tell, and January 15th, as I record this, right slap bang in the middle of the transfer window.
00:00:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it has been reported by multiple news outlets that no clubs are subject to any PSR penalties. This could prove an interesting transfer window nevertheless because clubs are still concerned about the profit and sustainability rules. So let's talk about transfers. Well,
00:00:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm sad to report that most of them are transfers away from the club. I'm having a look on various outlets. More specifically, I'm looking at the BBC Football Gossip panel, which sifts through some of the high-talking transfers, if you haven't seen it already. It's a pretty famous page, so I'm not going to lie and say, oh, I found this one from the depths of nowhere. ah This is me going through and trying to pick out which one sounds the best.
00:01:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, a lot of talk recently has been about Kobi Mainu. Of course, the 19-year-old has probably got some offers waiting for him for January. Now, Kobi Mainu and Marcus Rashid are going to be very much ah subject to the PSR Costings. In essence, if we were to sell them for any fee, the whole of that fee could be used as a profit because they've come through the academy and therefore cost the club nothing.
00:01:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't look into the academy costings or the hiring of youth coaches or whatever. That doesn't matter. It's all about if you didn't bring them to the club, if you brought them through in the academy and didn't spend any transfer money to bring them in, then they cost zero. That means if we were to sell the likes of Cobie Manu and Marcus Rashford, all of the money could be considered profit. Now, this is why is This is why CopyMania is going to be a hot topic this winter because right now we've got Chelsea who are looking to see if they can put a bid in at the moment. We've also got, I think by Munich as well, are looking for it as well. but So Jim Ratcliffe, the Telegraph reports, wants to avoid any frantic profit and sustainability rule sales on the 30th of January to make sure they stay within financial rules. Now we know Jim Ratcliffe likes to ah make sure he starts at the bottom to try and get rid of all of the all of the wage deficit rather than look at the top and look at our highest earners because that makes sense. He's looking to see if he can offload the likes of Coby Mainu and Alejandro Garnaccio which is concerning Considering that Bobby Mainu we were we've been talking about the podcast being a stalwart for this side And hopefully we were talking about him obviously teaming up with Agate as well and hopefully being that two holding midfielders the club needs But it looks like the club's financial interests are going to be put at the forefront and that's no surprise because we have been spending lots of money on players that are average and That's been a see that seems to be a

Interest in Key Players and Club Strategies

00:03:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
mantra over the last 10 years. days Don't get me wrong There's been one or two that have been absolutely fantastic Bruno Fernandez being one of them now club captain and seemingly taking the Mickey out of Joshua Xerxes on So sorry No, not Joshua Xerxes out of Harry Maguire when he ah posted that miss and Fernandez said if you block every shot I don't mind you missing an open goal every now and again
00:03:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
which yeah great stuff but we're not here to talk about the friendly who's and how's about our players we're here to talk about transfers and like I said most of them are transfers away from the club ah which is not ideal ah I'll be honest with you it's not great Marcus Rashford though According to Sport in Spain, he would prefer a move to Barcelona out of all other options. Juventus are also in for him as well. And I'm having a look at the last couple of days. Napoli have made some big interests in our players as well. ah AC Milan have made a formal approach for Marcus Rashford. This was reported yesterday by Sky Sport News. Yesterday, as I recall, this this will be Tuesday for you when you listen to it.
00:04:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
So AC Milan are in the running to try and pick up Marcus Rashford as well. And it was also reported by Sport Italia on Tuesday that United have managed to set a value for Alejandro Gonaccio for about £42 million amid interest from Napoli. Again, this would be a huge shame if if if we're looking to sell off players, but i can't I can't feel too hard done by it because Manchester United have spent so much. I mean, we spent, I'm trying to think of the exact value, but we spent a lot under Eric Tenag. And this is just coming back to bite us. This this is where the yeah the frivolous spending has brought us to. it's having it's It's a case now where we're having to consider offloading youth academy prospects because now we need to make up the books. So it's a real concern right now.
00:04:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
that suddenly we have all these players coming in to see what we can do. And all these clubs are now interested in our players. Not great. I did mention Copy Manu, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea are now in the race to sign Copy Manu. That's according to The Sun. That was reported on Tuesday. There's quite a few. There's quite a few outs, which is, you know, again, not great, but they seem to be mainly three

Potential Moves and Interest from Other Clubs

00:05:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
players. Now, Yoshua Xerxesi, Fabrizio Romano was ah sort of reported that he might look for a move away on loan. That hasn't been
00:05:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know now he's coming into a little bit of form hopefully that doesn't or that hopefully that changes and in the fact that he wants to stay. and we'll we'll look to that former Manchester United player though and a Herrera who's 35 now is looking to join Boca Juniors that's according to Fabrizio Romano so good for him good for him but for severely underrated at Manchester United it has to be said severely severely underused and underrated you might hear me typing away here just trying to see yeah look out for everything
00:05:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a bit all over the place but I'll come back to Garnaccio now because this was reported on Monday and this was due according to Sport Italia that Antonio Conte wants Alejandro Garnaccio to replace Kvychka Kvara Tskhelia and I do hope my Georgian is good there because he's looking to move to Paris Saint-Germain. Now That would make sense. I would think if the 42 million pound value is accurate, we shall have to wait and see. ah i'm Again, I'm hoping we don't sell anybody. But again, there's not a lot of ins apart from Evan Ferguson brought in on loan.
00:06:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
for Brighton and this is according to ah TBR football and well we'll see about that one no I'm not so sure. Evan Ferguson who's not been very hot this season i've got obviously he's still a great talent and hopefully we'll be ah we'll be making some marks as as island as an island starter but right now ah looking to bring him in on loan but Yeah, it's interesting. It is interesting. and He's also got the option of West Ham as well, which I think Evan Ferguson might take the lone move to West Ham to see if he can kickstart, ah you know, that that great form we know we've seen before. he's ah He's a great player and I hope to see him maybe one day in a Manchester United shirt. We shall see. We shall see. What else have we got here? Yeah, we've got more news about
00:07:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Napoli wanting Marcus Rashford as well, so Napoli are in for both wingers there, which is absolutely outstanding. We've also chosen Bayern Munich in for Coby Mainu, so ah looking at it here, we're we're we're looking at players here that three players in particular keep coming up, and I don't know if you've noticed it at the moment, but three players keep coming up, Coby Menu, Alejandro Gannacho, and Marcus Rashford. Now we know Marcus Rashford is pretty much going to be leaving, if not this window, next. We've got that big contract with him, so he's here for another four or five million pounds, or four or five million pounds, four or five years on a contract. There's so much going on.
00:08:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's going to be here ah for quite some time. So the contract's worth a lot. We might be able to sell him on for that way. And I'm looking to see what we can do in terms of transfers in there have been a couple of.
00:08:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
you know, players here or there looking to see, looking to see what we can see, see what we can do as well. I'm hoping that we get some players in, but it's that dreaded three letter, three letter initialism. PSR, oh no, it's it's not good, it's not good. PSR might come back to bite us, but what might not come back to bite us is hopefully maybe some couple of transfers in, and I'll talk about those after this.

i'm furiously clicking away trying to see what we've got in terms of transfers in and on the on the bounce of it we haven't got any you know massive stars that are you know we're we're in for at the moment um at the moment but talk sport reported that Manchester United are among the clubs considering 40 million pound rated japan and palmer keeper zion Suzuki who's 22 years old and It was a name I hadn't actually come across, Zayan Suzuki, so I thought

Player Evaluations and Scouting

00:09:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'd give it a look. And, well, he's playing for Parma, 22 years old, Japan number one. ah He has, at the moment, 16 caps for the Japanese national team. Born and new at New Jersey, 22 years old. ah one minute One meter 90, which I think roughly translates as 6 foot 3 if you're after that volition, which is my volition. Same height as me, apparently.
00:10:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yeah, he's got ah he's got something about him, I would say. Nineteen appearances so far in Serie A are three clean sheets, so not the greatest in the world. Then again, I haven't looked deeply into ah how Parma have been playing. I'm not sure on that front. But it's a case of right now, Zion Suzuki, who who joined who joined in July of 2024 for a fee of seven and a half million euros and now he's apparently worth 40 million pounds. That's quite a substantial jump for Zion Suzuki at Palma but he has a contract that runs until 2029.
00:10:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
If he is linked, he'll have only spent a season at Palmer. ah Not even that, half a season at Palmer before he's considered at Manchester United. Again, for for that money, for £40 million, pounds for a keeper who is, you know, we're looking at potentially and another backup is what we're looking at here, because would we drop a Nana? Beyandir has also pulled out one of the great performances in the FA Cup, one of those you'll probably, it's it's one of those that just sets him up for the rest of his career. and But yeah, it it's vastly um
00:11:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Vastly, i don't I don't know if it's concerning. This is the thing. Is it concerning we're going through with or looking at a keeper that is relatively untested at the moment? Half a season in a top flight division. Let's let's be honest. Serie A out is a top flight division.
00:11:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
and you know he's kept three and clean sheets he's conceded 30 goals so yeah these are these are concerns these are concerns and especially if it's going to be 40 million because we'll just put ourselves right back where we started at that point we'll put ourselves in a position where in you know a year's time we're going to be talking about psr again and we're having to sell off these talents again so again I don't think it's a good idea, I would love to be proven wrong, but we'll see how it goes. at Transfer marked as well reported that Douglas Nene, now again I hope that's being pronounced right, Douglas Nene from RB Salzburg might be interested in a move for about eight million euros and the 22 euro for eight million euros ah looks to be
00:12:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
are quite good. And I mean, this is just something I've i've i've come across right now. ah And according to Transfermark, this is their words. Manchester United are linked to countless players on a weekly basis. There's a little surprise there, Transfermark. Tell us something we don't know. There is little substance to the majority of those names, but United's interest in Dorgales Nene appears legitimate. It's understood that United recruitment staff have scouted the RB Salzburg attacker extensively this season.
00:12:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
So this is linking to the fact that the 3421 is going to be the way we look at it. Now, Nene is efficient on the left wing, but can play on the right wing if needed ah from Mali and has a contract up until 2028. Recently signed one as a as late as September. But he came through in in the Malian club at Guidar's FC and transferred to RB Salzburg in 2021. So he's really been an academy, or I would say an academy prospect, but it's clear that R.B. Salzberg have seen him early, have spotted him early, and had looked to sort of get him out on loan. He's had quite a few loans. He's had loans at um FC Leafring, who were also in Austria, at SV Reed as well in Austria in 2021-22.
00:13:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
and also a loan move at KVC Westerlo in Belgium and he's recently come back there so now he's worth about eight million euros according to transfer marked although they have also reported that there's a probability of transfer of five percent uh that being said looking at his stats in the Bundesliga this season 14 appearances four goals and fives at assists that's It's a pretty good return, actually, for the Bundesliga. He's made six appearances in the Champions League, but hasn't had any goals or assists. ah But in the Champions League, qualifiers, ah four appearances and two goals, with three appearances in the in the Austrian Cup, I believe that is the League Cup, an assist in three games. So it's clear to see.
00:14:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
that the Malian attacker needs a little bit of ah consistency, needs a sort of consistent time in a first team. But it could be a good option, especially if we were to lose the likes of Alejandro Granucho or Marcus Rashford, someone who could fill in there on that left wing. The Gueleze NA has 20 caps as well for Mali, three goals scored there as well. 1.74 metres. So I'm going to say this roughly six foot one and a half. Maybe I'm not good on my imperialism metric. Someone can check. Someone correct correct me. I'm sure that is the case. In any case, we're linked with him. It's a low probability of transfer according to transfer marked. But that is the way it is. and We'll have to wait and see. I'm going to take a little bit of a quick break. I would love to see you know free agents, who who would actually be. And I'm i'm having to look at free agents. Oh no, that's not good, is it? That's not good at all. Well, look, I'll come back and we'll see which players are coming to the end of their contracts at other clubs. And maybe we could sign on a Boltzmann coming into and coming into the summer. Join me after the break.

Global Sports Podcast Network
I've picked out a couple of players, and when I say a couple, I mean four, because a couple usually means two. Look, that's beyond the point. There are four players that have caught my eye, whose contracts are ending at the end of this season, which is, you know, rather, rather good, I quite think.
00:16:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah First player on my eight books and on my eyes, Jonathan Tarr, who's been a centre-back, who's been really on my mind for a lot, especially over the past few seasons. ah Currently at Bialevakusen, contract up at the end of the year, 1.95 metres. He's a centre-back that's taller than me. He's got to be good then, surely. That's the only thing I'm saying. ah The German international has made 33 caps and of course part of that magical biolavicusan season where they went on to win the title. 28 years old. I would love to have him at Manchester United. I really, really would. I think he would, you know, provide not well, more competition. But of course, if we're playing with three centre backs right now, we have the likes of, you know, we let's think about this. We've got Martinez, we've got Maguire, we've got Euro and we've got
00:17:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Another centre-back in there, which is really bad, I can't remember. Delicked! Almost lost ah everything there. trying to think of delay So we've got four centre-backs there. We've also got Lindelof in there. So five centre-backs playing in a three centre-back system.
00:17:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
is is running it a ah bit tight I would say. I think Jonathan Tarr, especially in a free transfer, joining us in July would add us that recent title winning mentality. I really do think he could be an excellent signing for us and I think he'd slot in pretty well at the back there. When he joins us he would be 29 so even if we gave him a three-year deal He would be into his early 30s, and that would be a fantastic... I think that would be a good free signing if we were to come up with Jonathan Tarr. Really would like to see him at the club, really would like to see how well he does. Niall has mentioned this player though, quite regularly. He always likes to remind us. He played with this player ah very, very many, many years ago. It's Angel Gomez. His contract is expiring at Leal at the end of this season. There's a familiar theme you'll see. They're all ending in the this season, but I'll add it for a dramatic effect.
00:18:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Angel Gomez attacking midfield, once part of the Manchester United Academy, since then has has gone to the likes of Boavista and Lille and has really enjoyed himself at the moment. Looking at it, he plays his best football right now in that attacking, that a more advanced playmaking role, but he's only had less than half the times he has ah appeared for Lille, has been off the bench.
00:18:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's made 11 appearances, a goal and an assist, not too bad, but since he's left us, he's had four caps for England. And I've got to say, he is absolutely brilliant in that centre of midfield. I think, you know, if we were to lose Coby Maino this season, Angel Gomez could slot in at that similar point and provide that deep-lying playmaker. He can play as a deeper-lying playmaker if we need to. And I think, yes, he might be on the smaller side, but that's not stopping the likes of Martinez.
00:19:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
doing really well at centre back. I see Carriga say a lot about defensive players and how they're short so they must be terrible. Absolute, absolute tosh. You know you don't have to have the height. It might be a weakness of it, but you play around your weaknesses, you play to your strengths. And Adrian Gomez in the middle of the park, if he's teamed up with someone like Agate, could really run the show and pull the strings from deeper.
00:19:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
And if that's not the case, if we decide to drop Bruno deeper, Angel Gomez could be an attacking midfielder, one of those to try and push forward. He's very good in that role. He's a very creative player, a very skillful player as well, and very intelligent. He seems to know what to do at those certain moments. And at 24 right now,
00:19:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hopefully he's only going to get better. And if we can bring back and ah an academy prospect that we once had and let go, that would be fantastic. It really, really would. And I don't see why not. I really don't see why not. He moved to Leo on a free transfer. So wouldn't it be poetic to get him back on a free transfer? Watch this space, eh? Watch this space. We'll see if we can get Angel Gomez back.

Defensive Needs and Dream Signings

00:20:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Leftback is a role that has come up more than one occasion about how we are lacking a little bit of depth in that role. Tyrrell Molassia could be going out on loan, this this window. That was reported by Fabrizio Romano. Not sure where he might go. He might go to Italy.
00:20:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
In any case, if he does go out on loan, then we'll probably need a bit of left-back support. Ferla Mende is one, I'm going to say. They're 10 caps for France, currently for Real Madrid, but his contract is expiring at the end of this season. Again, much like Angel Gomez, he's not starting many games. He's starting about half the games he's actually appeared in. So, yeah, let's say 12 appearances so far this season. That's just over half the games, but yeah, that's only hard oh just over half.
00:20:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
for that one. um I know he's had a couple of issues with injury as well, so he might just be getting back into the fray on that front. But if he were to join the club in the summer, he would be 30 years old, so I wouldn't be a fan of a long-term signing for that to be the case. But I think he could be a decent player, to be honest with you. If he's good enough for Real Madrid right now, he's he's good enough for Manchester United, you would think. The French Senegal player, as I said, made 10 appearances for the French national team.
00:21:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think as well, it would really um provide us that important depth that we need, especially at left back. We have Dallow there, we have Malassia, we have Luke Shaw, who's out injured, and you know that's only going to to really put the strain on the left back row. We do need someone in that place that we can really rely on.
00:21:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
which brought me to possibly the very much the outside, very, very, very outside chance of trying to sign, because Real Madrid are in for this guy. It's Alfonso Davis. Yep, Alfonso Davis. Wow.
00:22:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
He is a he's as one ah a recovery defender. To counter any counter-attacks. Wow. He is phenomenal. I don't know if you've seen that clip actually, which I wish I could show you, but it's of him sprinting back in the snow as a recovery defender and he manages to recover it and then just pass it to Doi like nothing ever happened.
00:22:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow, what a signing he would be. Pretty much an attacking full back here on the left hand side. Can play at left back, left wing, just on that left hand side would be absolutely fantastic to see. The Canadian has 56 caps for his country, 15 goals as well. And contract coming to the end of this season with Bayern Munich.
00:22:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
It remains to be seen if Bayern Munich will get that new contract over the line. But 24 years old, he would be still 24 when he joins the club. ah What a signing that would be. And what a signing of intent. What a free transfer that would be. what it ah I'm running out of superlatives. I really, really am. um Yeah. He's been at Biomunik since 2019, so he's had he spent six well five and a half years at Biomunik. No, six years, I was right. I should trust myself more. Yeah, six years at Biomunik. He went there for a fee of 14 million euros, and now, obviously, we know him as just a fantastic left-back.
00:23:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
would be silly not to explore the option of trying to bring him to Manchester United but we would have a lot of competition from the likes of Real Madrid.

Listener Engagement and Closing Thoughts

00:23:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
We have a lot of competition up that front but that is that those are four players I would love to bring to the club on a free transfer as their contracts are expiring at the end of the of this season so let me know.
00:23:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Most for are they are they good enough? It looks like we're not gonna spend a lot of money in this transfer window And if it is we're looking to bring in unproven talent who were hoping to give a chance at Manchester United But let me know who are you looking for? Who's the per who's who are the players you would want to bring to Manchester United? Be it on a free transfer or be it paying whatever whatever we can to try and sign them Let me know your thoughts either in the comments below on social media at GSP and man United we're on any We're on Instagram or on Facebook. We're also on TikTok. But if we're in the US, might be a little bit of a concern for you right now. We'll we'll keep an eye on it. We'll see what happens there. But thank you so much for listening to this little bit of a Thursday transfer episode. Hopefully we'll do more of these and hopefully I'll i'll manage to wrangle in a couple of the hosts to really bounce off of and tell me how terrible my ideas are because
00:24:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
with you listening and not being able to shout at me live, a little bit of a concern. But let me know who you would like to bring to the club, and I'm sure I'll have a look at them, and I'm sure I'll agree with you and say, oh, they were so much better than on my picks. Until then, then enjoy the rest of your Thursday. We'll look forward to seeing what Southampton, well, hopefully we can get the result against Southampton, and I'll talk to you soon. In the meantime, have a rest great rest of your Thursday. I'll talk to you soon.
