Manchester United's Defeat Analysis

00:00:02
Speaker
every club every day the global sports podcast network work network hello everyone welcome to the daily manchas united it's me kieran it's only me i i don't really want to be here we're talking about a loss to not again forest but hey ho this is what it's all about isn't it this is all these projects that are coming together yes we have to talk about the three two it would be a bit of a shorter podcast not because i don't want to talk about it but because Well, what is there to talk about? You know, a couple of mistakes and eventually the game management just went tightly out of the window. Um, yeah, the mistakes are what cost us. The mistakes are what cost us the game entirely and their individual mistakes, you know, a goalkeeping howler as well. i Did we deserve to win? No, I don't think so. I don't think so. I think Forest had a number for for a lot of the game.
00:01:00
Speaker
And especially after Fernandez was subbed off, I think it was, you know, we, we recessed as as a team, quality wise, creating chances in that, in that sense, you know, we lost Fernandez or we subbed up Fernandez. We subbed up Gonaccio. We lost that pace as well. But we also subbed out two of our back line, you know, Lenny Yoro and Delict. And I think that's, that's a sign, you know, you want your defenders.
00:01:29
Speaker
relatively you want them to be there for the whole match so if they're subbed off not a good sign not a good sign well I mean looking at looking back at the match it was wow they they scored within two minutes and we've had a habit of doing that in the past four or so four or five games ah three of them I think we've scored in the opening or within the opening two minutes so we had that done to ourselves Heuland equalizing and not long later, 16 minutes later. And that was the end of a first half where it it seemed like it was, you know, we we played okay. We got ourselves back into the match, but I mean, start of the second half, once again, within two or three minutes, Morgan Gibbs-White puts them ahead. And then lo and behold, Chris Wood, who's in a purple patch, scores as well.
00:02:23
Speaker
And, uh, yeah, we, we, we struggled. We did struggle with three, one, you know, it's, I don't, well, I don't want to say schoolboy stuff, but it was, it was close to it. And I think, you know, individual errors happen. No, these are footballers at the They're humans. We all are, but you know, why I'm hoping we've just got all our mistakes out against forest. Um, you know, we've dropped points now.
00:02:52
Speaker
we I believe we're still 13th in the league he says yes we are on 19 points but West Ham Everton are still yet to play they could leapfrog us no they couldn't because West Ham are on 15 points so we stay 13th place no matter what and looking ahead we are now so eight points behind top four City who managed to get a draw Are our next opponent which I mean should be fun shouldn't it great?

Amurim's Post-Match Reflections

00:03:21
Speaker
ah City up next to have been dropping points left right and center trust us to to Host it or to to go to city to go to the match and go to the Etihad and it's just a Bawling I hope it's not I really hope not looking at some of the comments from Amurim after the game as well I mean
00:03:43
Speaker
it's it's i don't know i don't know because on the one half i think it takes time to learn a system it takes time for that system to be properly absorbed by all the players in the tactics and whatnot but i have a feeling that it's going to take longer than we all thought and it's it's losses like these that are i mean
00:04:12
Speaker
It's moments like this that we have to sort of reflect and sort of say, well what's the long term? I mean, our rooms come in. and It's a month until January. How much it gets in the window is yet to be seen, yet to yet to be understood.
00:04:26
Speaker
So we've we've if we have to use this until the summer, and again, what happens there?

Transfer Window Strategies

00:04:35
Speaker
As I said before, if you listen to the Arsenal crossover that I was on,
00:04:40
Speaker
ah you'll You'll know all my feelings about January. I don't think it's a case of are we bringing players in? I think it's more of a case of who gets sold, who gets put on the chopping block. Because I think you have to be ruthless. I think you have to send a message to the players that you know coasting and individual mistakes are not going to be tolerable. At least many mistakes aren't going to be tolerable.
00:05:09
Speaker
And the loss to Forrest, you know, another corner conceded as well. and Arsenal should have taught us that they're the proficient corner takers. They're using a part of the game very, very well. And I just don't think We deserved much from today's game, and to be honest, that third goal, you know, Fernandez gets the second goal, he' he's withdrawn from the game, and that just seemed to be it.

Team Cohesion vs Individual Reliance

00:05:38
Speaker
Forrest shut up shop, they were very happy to see out the game, and we we couldn't really do anything. It's almost like we lacked belief without Fernandez on the pitch, which is a huge concern. You know, as much as I love Talisman in the team,
00:05:55
Speaker
You cannot rely on one player to get your results time and time again. You can't. it's It shouldn't be a thing. You know, you've got now for Manchester Derby coming up where you've had two teams that have relied in the past on one player. Highland, ah Harland for City and Fernandez for United. And when they have been injured or, you know, the supply stopped going to them,
00:06:25
Speaker
and the chance to stop going to them, the chance to stop being created by them, et cetera, et cetera, they struggle. So the this is this is a key moment. This is a key turning point in the season. If we win against it, it is a big if, because I'll talk about that in a bit. Then very much, all could be seasoned back on. Losses like this happen. They do and they hurt because it's just a gut punch, isn't it? You feel like some you make it a little bit of progress and bit by bit game after game. But I don't think we should be too disheartened because Forest was always going to be a tough game. and They're in the Champions League placings for goodness sake. They've had a fantastic start to the season. It was going to take a lot to topple them and in the form they're in. I feel like we had a chance to do that and without those mistakes we probably could have and maybe we probably

Learning from Mistakes

00:07:19
Speaker
should have.
00:07:20
Speaker
But the game's not played on paper. The game's played on the pitch. And if you've got players making mistakes, giving up position really easily, if we're conceding in the first two minutes of both halves today, then you're asking for it, aren't you? You're asking to lose. So we made it tough for ourselves, not for Forrest. And h yeah if you make it tough yourself, you're not going to get very, very far.
00:07:45
Speaker
and look i'll only have the one break to break down and cry now i'm kidding maybe but when i come back i'll talk more about maybe what amram thought and maybe what could what on earth we do when we go to city this should be a good one anyway i'll be back after this sports podcast network work Here at the Global Sports Podcast Network, we spent a lot of time selecting and delivery platform, and Zencaster came out the clear

It's going to be tough, isn't it? ah Look, what Amurim said after the game. um you know Basically, it was more of the same from what he sort of mentioned in his earlier ones. He said, it was a tough game. This is according to Sky Sports, I should say, it was a tough game. We started the two halves really bad. It was hard to pass on some calm to the players and continue the game as we should.
00:09:17
Speaker
We didn't have a lot of quality but a lot of heart. Suffering two goals after halftime in this context is really hard. We need more time to put positionings in. If you see the first goal it was a good combination between the players and after the first goal we had good moments creating chances. But then when we went forward without thinking it's a tough context but we have to understand it is a long journey and that's where our jobs are. He also said for the for the corner that poor organization again costing us This is more my fault, he says, because I'm responsible. And we tried to do it the best way. We did ah a lot of work in this area, but we saw it and asked what was really hard. In this context, in the beginning of the game, we suffered in the first play. It's really hard to put energy in the team, but we managed to do it. We drew the game level in the second half, the same thing. And you feel it in everybody, the fans, the players. It's really hard to transmit something, to continue to do your job. We managed to score one, but then it was more like we wanted, but not with a lot of quality.
00:10:17
Speaker
So if you read between the lines of what Amorim is saying, ah I don't think that's good. You know, a lot of heart. Great. Okay, Lester had a lot of heart in their title winning campaign. They were one in a thousand to get relinquicated, weren't they? Or one in a thousand to get the Premier League title. That was a lot of heart. I don't know many more Premier Leagues that are won by heart.
00:10:46
Speaker
I mean Joe Hart maybe, and he won a couple. But you need talent. And what Amory is saying here is, we don't have talent. We don't have enough talent. This is what I'm interpreting here. And with the players trying hard, and yet again, I want players to do well, I want players to give all their best, but What Amorim is saying here is even though we're trying to you know get this new system into them, I mean Diallo's picked it up pretty quickly. Pretty quickly indeed, very versatile player. He had a quiet game today unfortunately, but I mean
00:11:28
Speaker
Again, it's it's a case of how can someone pick it up so quickly when they've been on loan? Well, maybe because he's been on loan and away from the club and has had to learn a different way of playing. Maybe that's the reason why he's he's managed to pick this up quite well.

Facing Future Challenges

00:11:43
Speaker
It got an assist actually, Diallo. I did forget about that. I set up Fernandez. But on the whole, I think it was just tough, you know? It's i don't really yeah I don't really know what we can take towards City. If City put corner routines in, they'll be absolutely fine. Because we've conceded two corners now. At least two corners as far as I remember. I try and scrub off losses. But two losses in a row, not great for when we head to City. To the City of Manchester Stadium.
00:12:23
Speaker
i don't i don't know I don't know what to feel, what to think, what to feel going towards the game. It is going to be tough. It's going to be very, very tough. um But as as a gut reaction, as a gut feeling, it's not a good feeling. know Forest, they are you know they're they're a good side. That result has taken them to fifth place now. They're only 10 points off the lead.
00:12:50
Speaker
um it's it's It's not great. Not great. So I'm hoping, and I really am hoping, that this is a sort of message to the players to say, you know, mistakes happen. Okay, fine. But mistakes that cost us points, not good. Not good. And if we don't have the quality to make up for those mistakes, we're going to continue to drop points.
00:13:23
Speaker
And ah Matt was saying, actually, Matt and I have been in private. We'll probably make this an episode at some point about when Ten-Hower Harg was sacked, about how much it's down to the manager and how much it's down to the players. And I don't want to give too much away because we are planning to have a wild-car Wednesday when we're by three to record and and and discuss it. It's probably going to be later down the line because more points might favour Matt in the future.
00:13:54
Speaker
But what he always mentions is how much is down to the players. I'm starting to see his point of view. I really am. I think players who down tools or don't put in the effort or or aren't good enough should be sold. And I think Amorim is starting to hint at that. The fact that we lack quality, the fact Fernandez gets withdrawn, substituted off and just everything stops. Players are scared.
00:14:25
Speaker
This is Manchester United. You shouldn't be scared. I think we're so scared of losing that we stop trying. And it's it's a weird one. You you should be 3-1 down or 3-2 down, I should say. The main creative force gets taken off the pitch in Fernandez and everything just breaks up. Everything stops. No one knows what to do. And I think that's just Not good. It's not good. We shouldn't be relying on one player. Diallo's been in great form, but you know he needs to be a part of the team. yeah He cannot do things on his own at the moment. And as much as I would love him to, as much as I would love him to get the hat trick, which, you know, that would be great, I feel like it's it's in two games we've we've we've shown some of the true colours that maybe are on display.
00:15:24
Speaker
and they're not good. I don't like these colours. Hopefully Amum has the time to really gut out the squad and really go through who he actually wants to stay at the club. And I trust his decision. He's with the players day in day out. We head to City on Sunday on Sky Sports.
00:15:47
Speaker
So make sure you do, well, we'll have to tune in for that, won't we? Half past four on Sunday, the 15th of December in the run-up to Christmas. It's gonna be a tough month. It is going to be a very, very tough month. But, you know, everyone else has a tough month every now and again. We we can't just blame it on the fixtures. And I've always said this, you know, we've got City away on the 15th of December. We've got Tottenham in the League Cup quarterfinal.
00:16:17
Speaker
We have Bournemouth on the 22nd, at home, Wolves away, Newcastle. I mean, looking at these fixtures, they shouldn't be tough fixtures, but they all are, especially when you're 13th. So we'll get to the City game, we'll see what happens. Can we keep loyal and quiet? Will City finally pick up three points against the team and it's probably going to be against us? Can we pull out an FA Cup final against Manchester City and actually be the better team?
00:16:45
Speaker
only time will tell. ah Time hasn't looked past Man United on a very good light. Hopefully it can look forward in a better one. I did say it was a slightly shorter podcast today. And I'm what i'm going to wrap it up there. But yeah, it's it's an interesting one. It gives you thought. By the way, what do we do? Well, apparently we need more heart and more quality.
00:17:13
Speaker
We're in this for the long haul. Don't you worry? We've been here 11 years already. What's another 11? Hey, thank you very much for listening Hopefully you have a much better rest of the day Until tomorrow have a great rest of the day. Take care of yourselves. I'll speak to you soon
