Introduction and Spooky Episode Theme

00:01:06
Speaker
Welcome to a very spooky episode of Games Over Plastic. I am your host, Hodge, and joining me is first my co-host, Midnight. Or should I say, Pickle Midnight.
00:01:24
Speaker
Oooh. He's the thing that half of people say, please eat this for me, because no one wants to eat the pickle.
00:01:37
Speaker
That's right. How's it going? Happy to be here on the show today. I turned myself into a pickle. I'm Pickle Rick. Pickle night. Pickle midnight. Happy to be here. This special Halloween spooky episode. Let's go. Oh, yes. And joining me is our even spookier co-host, Sean Mason. Or should we say the Riddler?
00:02:19
Speaker
And I am your host, the Sony Pony, Steve Hodge. Welcome everyone to a very spooky episode of Games Over Plastic, episode 666. We are doing a very spooky episode. We're going all out. I'm hoping this is probably the episode everyone should check out the video form. I mean, if you're an audio listener,
00:02:40
Speaker
You know, awesome. Thank you for your support there. But definitely go on YouTube and at least check out some of this episode because it is a very fun idea that we had, I think. And I'm going to enjoy especially the topic. Halloween is my favorite season of the year. So I love, love, love, love doing Halloween themed anything really. So yes, please check out the YouTube. Obviously, little ah we'll do the admin stuff quick. We're available anywhere podcasts are heard audio wise. We are available on YouTube, which again, checks out there this week.

Halloween Movies and Childhood Memories

00:03:10
Speaker
um but yeah that's really all we got there is uh so we just hop into first we're gonna do just before we get into anything gaming related since it is halloween we wanted to quickly talk about like halloween movies or shows or just specials that we enjoy watching throughout our lives so i'm gonna throw it over to midnight first uh what halloween movies or shows do you just basically yearly have to get around to Yeah, so I've never really been a huge Halloween or spooky guy. Um, actually this year, more than any other year I've gotten into the spirit and it's because of you, uh, because you're always the Lord of Halloween. You know, we got the spook bank. So.
00:03:47
Speaker
I've been watching more Halloween movies. I watched the last two screen movies, which are okay. They're not really scary. Those movies are more like just trying to figure out who the killer is. yeah um And then I watched Smile, which was creepy and kind of scary. I watched It Chapter One, which you recommended, which was quite good. And the other day I watched Alien Romulus, which was pretty good. I'm not a huge alien guy, but I enjoyed that.
00:04:12
Speaker
As far as my favorite Halloween or scary movies, I've always been a fan, of course, of the Halloween movies with Mike Myers and Nightmare on Elm Street. As a kid, I grew up with Freddy Krueger. You know, my ah my cousin Brian would always dress up as Freddy and he'd really get into it and really do the make. He would do the makeup hardcore like he'd look really close to him and he'd have like the claws. That was cool. And I'll just give a random shout out to one of the coolest, most underrated Halloween movies of all time.
00:04:41
Speaker
It's the nightmare on Elm Street where the kids realize that it's a dream and that they don't have to play by the rules either. And they start fighting back with powers. I think it's three yeah dream warriors or something. I think one of them like turns into a wizard. One's like a ninja. I don't remember because it's been so long. I need to rewatch that. But like they're fighting back with powers and stuff. And it's like these cool fights against Freddy, like these little mini boss fights. It turns into like a like a Fromsoft game. Dude, it's freaking awesome.
00:05:07
Speaker
So shout out to Halloween. I love it. Yeah. I, uh, there's a podcast i I think I've talked about it on here. It's called Efap every frame of pause. And every year for Halloween, they do just ah like a spooky, you know, movie series. They've done a final destination. They did resident evil and they did one other one, but this year they're doing
00:05:32
Speaker
After the first one, they're pretty stupid, but they're entertaining. I actually had a, I had a friend growing up who was obsessed with horror movies. So as a young kid, like, you know, five, six, seven years old, I was watching Friday the 13th, which terrified me as a kid, especially and the ah old it. Like the old one with Tim Curry as Pennywise, we watched that and it just destroyed me. But then you go back to him, watch him as I'm talking like, these are so bad. Like they're so hokey. They're so dumb. There's nothing scary about them. But ah but yeah, what about you, Sean? What movies or specials or anything do you like watching around the season?
00:06:19
Speaker
What does that mean? What does that mean? Nightmare Before Christmas? Yeah, it is. Yeah. I love the Nightmare Before Christmas. It's one of my favorite movies. I like it because they can watch it at Halloween. You can also watch it at
00:07:48
Speaker
Iowa. If you are on the video, I look like I'm in a bunker. I'm just in my cousin's basement. He's letting me live with him for a little bit before I find my own

Halloween Video Games and Festive Fun

00:07:55
Speaker
place. But i yeah, so I watched that. And then I always try and watch the original Halloween movie. It's just so good. It's like, it's what birth, the slasher genre. It's just a fantastic movie.
00:08:12
Speaker
that movie it's the it's i've only been like unsettled by three horror movies my entire life it was it when i was a kid because it was just scary as a kid but like i said it's hokey as hell when you watch it as an adult uh but the other in the new one i that's my favorite horror movie of
00:08:37
Speaker
alien movie i love the first alien i wasn't huge on romulus it's good it looks good but the characters were all stupid so i couldn't i couldn't agree with the fact that they're all dumb but but yeah i love halloween i watch the like the christmas one the It's Christmas time, Charlie Brown, I think is what it's called. And I watched that with my mom also, and I'm up at Christmas Carol, but that's for a different episode. But yeah, I just, I love always checking out new horror movies too. i've I watched a couple for the first time this year. Like, oh my God, now I'm just blanking. I watched, ah well, I watched Scream and Scary Movies so we could compare the two the other day.
00:09:15
Speaker
and it's so funny because the scary movie just picks up on the dumbest little things like in scary move they're in screen the car or drew berrymore is making popcorn and you see like the little popcorn thing expanding on the stove but in scary movie it gets to like the size of a giant beach ball because it's just dumb But yeah, I love horror movies. And so yeah, the hol Holly spirit. I love decorations. I love going all out. I'm I get it from my mom where I'm the kind of guy who will decorate my apartment, even though I'm a single dude living alone. I don't care. I love doing it. So yeah, I love Halloween. So I'm excited to be doing this episode. Shall we move on, fellas? Yeah, real quick, though, Sean, I have a riddle for you.
00:09:57
Speaker
the I'm gonna flip the script. How about this? Yeah, I saw the reflection. You just looked it up. Yeah. <unk> You saw nothing. is all This is all from the pickledome, okay? Sean, when does Christmas come before Halloween?
00:10:16
Speaker
I don't know. When? In the dictionary. I thought of that myself. I totally didn't just look that up. um carry on lord hodge the sony pony yes let's talk all about playstation this episode no uh xbox sucks so let's let's move on let's move on into what we've been playing uh let's start off with shawn shawn mr riddler what have you been playing all right so i've only been able to play a couple
00:11:04
Speaker
called Sparking Zero, Dragon Ball Z Sparking Zero.

Dragon Ball Z and Other Game Reviews

00:11:10
Speaker
This is, as for those of you who don't know, this is a spiritual successor to the Tenkaichi series. It actually was called Sparking
00:11:27
Speaker
It's a really good fighting game. I love the amount of characters, a lot of
00:12:02
Speaker
a lot of cool, like, a lot of cool characters, but, um, my biggest critique of this game is the story mode is absolutely atrocious. Like, it is abysmal.
00:12:28
Speaker
it's really bad like I've already done go like you can choose between like which character you want to do like this is pathway it's like I've done Goku's I've done Vegeta's I've done Gohan's and there are some like alternate likes they call them sparking episodes where if you do like you can choose to do something different so for example um With Gohan instead of you know why I'm hodge you know in hadn't like trained at all well if you act the objective is to survive like for two minutes against him But if you defeat him within the two minutes you can go off in an alternate branching storyline where Gohan like becomes like the ultimate it's called like the strongest warrior and he becomes like the the greatest fighter and they actually you know the Goku black arc and
00:13:15
Speaker
yeah yeah they make a Gohan black instead of Goku black because Gohan became like the strongest word he ended up Majin Buu was never revived so like it's fun and Gohan doesn't stop training it's really interesting it's um so that is kind of cool but like the way they execute it is awful because it's again it's little like portraits with like little just like spot Subtitles like I said, so that is kind of disappointing I kind of wish like I felt like if you're gonna do this like totally phone this like story mode in You should have just gave us like the story mode from Tenkaichi one or Tenkaichi two Tenkaichi those both also had what if story modes and their what if storylines are pretty cool like it was one where and Tenkaichi one where you play as Frieza and
00:14:02
Speaker
He basically wins with my dynamic. That was kind of cool. But like, I don't know, the way that they did it in 1 and 2 was a lot better. So that's kind of disappointing. But it is overall, it's a really fun game to play. I think the gameplay wise, it's up the original Tekaiji games much better. And you know, those games were really good as well.
00:14:21
Speaker
I like playing as all the different characters. It is cool
00:15:05
Speaker
yeah, the gameplay's awesome. Okay, cool. Yeah I've never been huge on the like open arena fighting. I always kind of like to the side by side old old school version even though it was cool because like you could go around and hit people in the mountains if you had them in the right area kind of stuff. I always liked that but The so that's never grabbed me, but it seems like it's they've made it quicker because it used to be like if you got knocked way away in those arena ones, it would take you forever to fly back to the person. And so the fact that they kind of have the ability where you can do the little shoot over kind of thing to get back to them quick, it makes it a lot quicker, I think. And so of so that is what ah intrigues me about it, because it seems but yeah, it used to be like if you got knocked away, it took you forever to get back to the enemy. But now if it's quick,
00:15:50
Speaker
It makes it a little more fluid and Dragon Ball Z-like, so it kind of that intrigues me, and I do want to get around not try to I'm to say one more thing on the story mode. I'm not trying to be able to get negative, but in Gudakai-senkaichi 1, for example, in the story mode, they had all the battles there. like even if it was Even if the character the main characters were lost or got their butt kicked, it would be like, you need to survive for two minutes.
00:16:15
Speaker
Like, they had a couple of those in there, but they don't have it. Like, for example, in Tenkaichi 1, when you fought Nappa, you know how Goku won Kaio-ken and kickbeat Nappa? you had to beat Nappa in Kaio-ken, like you had to do the Kaio-ken suit, his final final is like a super attack, which is like this, um, you need max speed for that, was like a Kaio-ken attack, like you had to beat Nappa just ah to actually beat the, um, the event in Tagaiji 1, you had to beat him with that attack, when you're playing Perfect Cell as Team Gohan, it was, you beat him with the father-son Kamehameha, and this is just like, oh just beat him, just, however you want to do it, just beat him, and I don't know, it's kind of, I'm just pointing, but overall gameplay is fun,
00:16:54
Speaker
That's good. Yeah, I was just going to say that that's the main issue I have with ah the Dragon Ball games is a lot of times there's not much story to really enjoy. They just basically redo like the Z saga, which we've already seen a million times. I kind of would like when if they had like an original story, that would make me more interesting. I don't almost do like a movie story, but like in game format, because I just don't I don't want to see the same story over and over and over.
00:17:19
Speaker
Um, that's just me though. I don't know. See, I don't mind. I understand that complaint and I agree with it to an extent, but I don't mind replaying it. If like, if this game came out and it was like, you know, the, and because it's kind of like the smash bros ultimate where it's like, we have everything in this. And so it'd be cool if the story was you want, you played from D uh, DB all the way through DBGT. And then they also had super and the movies and like,
00:17:44
Speaker
If they had everything, would I'd be okay playing through Dragon Ball Z again if it had all the other
00:18:04
Speaker
You know what's even weirder, too, is that, like, for example, the Gohan, the Gohan saga, it starts at teen Gohan. Like, if you play as his story mode, you you don't get to play as kid Gohan. Like, you don't do any battles on Namek. You don't do any battles on the same. It's so weird. It's just like, I don't know. It's really weird how they did the story mode. It's almost like they shoehorned it in at the end. i Like, oh, crap, we can just put a story mode in. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised.
00:18:27
Speaker
but all right what about the I see you're playing one other game yep um so we finished up until dawn me and my wife we actually it ended really cool I really love the whole idea of like this I don't want to spoil anything but like just some things happen that are like ultimately crazy like you could not I did not see coming at all like I'm like whoa and then again the diet said it last episode with the choices the choices that you make sometimes you're like oh I think this is gonna happen it totally happens the other way and you're like
00:19:05
Speaker
Why did I make that decision? Now this character is dead. um Overall, it was a really fun experience. We only had a couple hours left. You guys were right. It's about 10 hours, 10, 11 hours. Really cool game. I definitely, I was so happy I just played the PS4 version. Didn't waste my money and buy the PS5 version because I thought the PS4 version looks great. Yeah, it's awesome. It looks great.
00:19:35
Speaker
there's a whole underground section and i was like whoa this is this is insane um the performance is fantastic um i think this is it's pretty crazy that this game came out in 2015 given that i've seen like some narrative like games like this where you know the choice based games the performances are not nearly as good as this so i think until i think uh it's remedy right now yeah remedy right supermassive supermassive sorry supermassive they did it they did a great job with this so yeah i highly suggest it it's a really good you know spooky halloween game
00:20:08
Speaker
But yeah, until dawn. Great game. We killed I think five of the characters ended up dying. Five of them. That's five. Yeah, out of eight. Yeah, five of the characters died. I know you can do it where any no one can die and then they can be like all of them die, I think. So yeah, I think I think I think I saved four out of the eight when I played. But yeah, it's it's yeah, until dawn is a fantastic game and happy enjoyed it.
00:20:38
Speaker
Uh, let's move on to me really quick. Uh, first off, I'll go just, don't need to talk about too much. Fort nightmares began, which is Fortnite's like Halloween event. Um, I just, that's again, it's a thing of, I just love Halloween. So just going on the island and seeing like pumpkins and lights and all that kind of stuff. Just on the island, it just makes me happy. They have added like the witches broom, so you can fly around and stuff like that. It's er not fly, but it shoots you up in the air and you glide away onto on a broom. And it's just, I always like in the,
00:21:07
Speaker
Rocket launcher becomes a pumpkin launcher, it shoots pumpkins. So i i just I just really enjoy that kind of aspect of it. So I just am happy that Fort Nightmares is back and I've been enjoying that with our our buddy Birdo and a couple other friends. so Shout out Berto and shout out to my other friends who I'm not gonna name just because I don't feel like it Anyway moving on to I've been I went back and I finally played Sly Cooper I bought it for about ten bucks on The PSN a while back and I finally got to it to replay it I haven't played it since that collection came out. However long ago. I bought it used at GameStop or whatever um But I didn't I didn't realize when I bought it that it was just straight up a ps2 port I didn't know I thought it was like the remastered one or I thought it was just like a
00:21:49
Speaker
like ported to be a PS5 version of it but no it's just straight up the PS2 basically emulation and but it had just that wonderful feel of playing a PS2 game which the graphics are better than you would expect for a PS like PS2 era game it's a great just like cel shaded cartoon type game and The gameplay is still fun. I love stealth games and I mean, it's obviously a kid's version of a stealth game. You're not really, it's not really that in depth, but it's a fantastic, I forgot about a lot of the the plot of it and everything and all the characters are just enjoyable. I absolutely adore this game and I kind of hope they bring two and three ah forward to the PS5 so I can play those as well. But yeah, Sly Cooper, been a fun game. oh What do you think, Sean, if you got anything to say about that?
00:22:36
Speaker
Yeah, Sly Cooper's great. I love the fact that they're bringing these... I think they've done a in general, they've done a really good job bringing these...
00:22:51
Speaker
names. Sly Cooper's not a random game but they brought these like kind of obscure random games from that PS1 PS2 era there but it's great to see Sly Cooper here and I definitely hope they bring two and three. I think positive reception, a lot of people seem to have bought this and have been really positive about it so I could easily see two and three coming and who knows maybe this would be the revival Sly Cooper needs to bring it back. I would hope so. I love this. it's It had so much charm that I forgot about that I would love for this series to come back.
00:23:21
Speaker
at Midnight do you ever play it when it came out? I know you're not a big platformer guy, but I don't know if you ever played Sly No, I never played Sly Cooper. Isn't that a sucker punch game? Yeah, um yeah so my gosh So I'm sure it's amazing because sucker punch is one of my favorite developers ghost of Tsushima Yeah, I never played it would if If you ever just feel like hopping in, it's literally like a seven hour game. I beat it really quick. I beat it in two days, two different sessions. It's a super fast game. ah So i I really love it for that also. Because as you everyone knows, I love quick games. Nice quick experience. Move on to the next one. But yeah, moving on. I'm also replaying. Thank you, ma'am. Exactly.
00:24:00
Speaker
I've I'm replaying Alan wake to I am almost done with Alan's half of it I haven't done much of saga so I'm gonna go through and play that after Because I wanted to get to it before the lake house DLC came out which now has a date of Tuesday and It's coming out Tuesday, tomorrow, if you're listening to this, October 22nd.

Anticipated Game Releases and DLC Excitement

00:24:19
Speaker
I am so excited for it. I watched i wasn't gonna watch the gameplay. I just wanted to get the release trail date, but I did watch it, so I saw a little bit of it, and it looks so cool. I am so excited for this. I cannot even express. I hope it's longer than the Night Springs DLC, because those were about an hour piece, so it was about a three-hour experience. I mean, I would take a three-hour experience total for this, if it's one thing.
00:24:44
Speaker
If that's if that's what it is, I'll be very excited or I am very excited. I'll be very pleased if that's what it is. But yeah, I love this game so much. I'm actually going to be talking about it a little later split. But yeah, so yeah, I like to love this game. So, yeah, I don't know if you guys have anything else to say about it, but it's it's on my list. I want to play it. It looks it looks great. You you never shut up about how good it is. So it's like it's like your ghost of Tsushima, basically. Like, i got all this so yeah, exactly.
00:25:14
Speaker
Um, yeah, watch the video version guys, youtube dot.com slash at games over plastic. You can see the backgrounds. You could see how it's dressed up as a Sony pony. It's fricking epic. And, uh, but yeah, um I'm going to get to it one day. Sean. Yeah, I still need to play the first one. I haven't played it yet. It's on the list. I'll probably play the first one before the end of this month though, because I want to play some spook spooky games. And the first one's only about 10 hours also. So it's a, it's a nice quick, nice quick game, but Oh, before we move on to Midnight's games, Alan Week 2, it's cool because they actually added the DLC to the game as you're playing through it. It's not just just, you can play it from the menu, but when you're going through, there's like TVs that sometimes play just like Alan losing his mind or whatever. Sometimes it has just something random on the TV.
00:26:03
Speaker
but there are three TVs that you go through and and you play the Night Springs DLC episode one so you're basically Alan watching the episode on the TV and it's so it's really cool yeah it's cool that they included that I'm wondering if they'll do the same for the lake house because On the map, this isn't a spoiler or anything, but on the map, when you're in the forest, there is a gate that leads to a lake house. And when you hit the button, it just basically says like no one's home kind of thing. So I'm wondering if they're just going to open that door and then you go do the lake house DLC through that. But I'm not sure. But yeah, Alan, like two fantastic game. Midnight, what have you been playing? Yeah, so I've been playing some games as well. I've been busy, actually.
00:26:46
Speaker
um You know in the past I was just playing like the same game or the same two games over and over But I got a little bit busy this week So I ah so I started out first of all I as I mentioned on our last episode I was playing Dragon Age Inquisition DLC and I finally got to Trespasser which is the masterpiece DLC that our boy Maddie is always talking about how amazing it is and I finally I played it and I beat it and he's he's damn right. This was an awesome DLC Amazing production amazing story. This was like I said, this was like full game energy full game budget went into this This didn't feel like some cheap DLC um The story was awesome. It was a great bridge. It's a great lead-in to Dragon Age 4 which comes out on Halloween October 31st I can't wait
00:27:31
Speaker
I'm counting down the days, boys. um But I love this DLC. It was f freaking awesome. I'll leave it there because you guys haven't played the game, so you wouldn't understand the references. But it does a good job of getting you ready for four. Then I am playing a JRPG that Sean kind of sort of recommended. Not really, but a little bit. I told him I was on sale and he was really excited. He was like, oh, 13 sentinels. so I got it. um So I'm playing 13 sentinels. Aegis Rim.
00:28:00
Speaker
Aegis Rim, whatever. ah This is a really cool game. I am, I don't know, like six to eight hours into it or something. um No, I'm more than that. I think it's a 30 some hour game. I'm like a third of the way to end. I'm like 11 hours in. So it's a pretty cool like time travel story going on where you got like aliens. I don't want to spoil too much, but you got like these aliens are attacking the earth and there's this time travel story and these, of course, high school kids have to save the planet. Who would have saw that coming on a JRPG, huh?
00:28:30
Speaker
Yeah, that's a twist. But yeah, it's an almost all high school kids um and they have to pilot these robots and they have to save ah the earth. And I haven't figured out everything that's going on. The story is jumping around as you play through 13 different characters perspectives and it's like interwoven and stuff. um But it's really cool. And I'm liking it a lot. So 13 Sentinels by the by the next time we meet here, I will have probably beaten this game. So we'll talk about it more then. Sean, you have any thoughts on this?
00:28:59
Speaker
uh well this is really one of those games you definitely do not want spoiled for you um because the story this story is what really carries this game if i'm really big game play um but i'm really happy you're playing this um do you have favorite characters so far of the 13th?
00:29:14
Speaker
Um, I have two favorite characters. So, yeah yeah um, so I like the Minato or whatever the, the track girl. Um, I like her energy. She's very, she's very like nice and like energetic and spry, um, and, and stuff. And then I also like, uh, the one, um, I don't remember her name because I've started playing another game that I'm about to get into, but the girl with like the twin tails or whatever. ah Um, yeah, I like her too. Yeah.
00:29:44
Speaker
Um, I like all of them though. Honestly, every character is cool. There's not one where I'm like, Oh, this person sucks. You know what I mean? Yeah. No, they're all, they're all pretty cool. They're all pretty unique too. They're all like, none of them are just like copy and pasting each other. we're good Yeah. No doubt. Um, how'd you haven't played this? Um, all right. Moving on because it is Halloween. Well, it's Halloween money.
00:30:09
Speaker
I decided that I was going to play a horror game because we were doing the horror episode. I wanted to have a horror game to talk about. So I set 13 Sentinels aside for a little bit and I picked up a horror game. So first thing I did, I was thinking, what do I want to play? I was thinking the evil within. I knew it was on game pass. So I hopped on the game pass. You know, I know the Sony Pony doesn't want to hear that boo game pass, but I got on there and they have a whole horror section, of course. And there's there's like 30 horror games in there or something.
00:30:38
Speaker
And I was looking through them and I was going to do the evil within. But then there was another game that caught my eye, Sean, and it is the follow up to Until Dawn, which you played. And it is the quarry from Supermassive Games. Now, this is a game that I've seen. Some people have been pretty negative about this game. I think they said that it didn't hit for them or they didn't think it was nearly as good as Until Dawn. I think it came out busted, too. Oh, did it come out busted? Well, when I played it, it was great. I had no issues except it did crash one time.
00:31:08
Speaker
Randomly crashed to the desktop, but it wasn't a big deal because it the game check ah the game checkpoints like all the time So I like I literally lost like no progress. So But yeah this game I thought it was awesome. I thought it was really good If I'm gonna score it, I'm gonna give it 8 or an 8.5 out of 10. I really enjoyed it I thought the story was pretty awesome um I love how they do the whole cinematic like movie experience where you make choices like run or hide or You know be condescending or be you know forgiving or whatever um And these things and then it'll say like path path path updated path chosen and then like something happens I did really good. I did obviously I didn't use any guide who would use a guide on a horrible game. That's stupid but um But I just I just make great choices. What can I say? um I really only lost one person in the whole playthrough I think there's about eight people again
00:31:56
Speaker
Um, but I, I actually lost two people. Um, it kind of soured my experience and pissed me off a little bit because I'm in, I'm in the final chapter, chapter 10. I did everything right. Like I maneuver right to the right spot to get the special weapon and I'm ready. And then this, this enemy's attacking me and I line up the shot. Right.
00:32:16
Speaker
ah You got a shotgun, not a huge spoiler. um And I line up the shot, and for some reason, I'm a freaking idiot. I hit the right bumper instead of the right trigger to pull the trigger. I don't know why. like i never who who Whoever hits the right bumper, I don't know why. I think it's because you use the left bumper to sprint, and I was sprinting around a lot, so I was thinking about bumpers. But I was so pissed. I hit the wrong button when I was ready to pull the trigger, and because of that, she got killed. um So that's on me. It's not really on the game, but she died as a result of that. so um'm I really lost two people, but if I would have just not been an idiot and hit the right button, and she would have lived and I would have gotten an even better ending. But I lost two out of the eight. Really should only lost one. It was an awesome story. Like I said, eight to eight point five out of ten. I really enjoyed it. They have a movie mode.
00:33:00
Speaker
which is pretty cool. ah There's three different choices. You can watch the movie where everyone lives, you can watch the movie where everyone dies, or there's like an interactive director's mode where you can go in all each all the characters, you can set like an archetype, like they're gonna be nice, or they're gonna be a dick, they're gonna be really really thorough, or they're gonna be kind of, ah you know, like ditzy and not really pay attention, and then see how it unfolds, like you don't use those archetypes to make the choices and see who lives or dies, so that's kind of cool. Yeah, that's sweet.
00:33:27
Speaker
um But yeah, I really thought this game was good. I don't understand the hate. Maybe it's because people loved Until Dawn so much or maybe it's because it was buggy, as you said, Hodge. But yeah, that's what I'm playing. That's what I beat the game. I beat the game. That's what I played. So shout out to the Quarry. Awesome, spooky game. I do actually recommend this. If you're a horror fan, if you liked Until Dawn, if you never gave the Quarry a chance,
00:33:50
Speaker
um It's on Game Pass. It might be on PS Plus. I didn't look. I wouldn't be surprised. I'm sure you can find it cheap if you want to buy it. I want to say it was the Games of Gold on PlayStation. I could be wrong, but um yeah I think it might be. was yeah You might already have this game. But yeah, this is a game that I think if you're into those narrative choice-based games, it's not as bad as as the the rep that it got. I really enjoyed it. I had fun.
00:34:14
Speaker
Yeah, I forgot it was on Game Pass because I did want to check this out eventually. So maybe maybe I can get to it before the end of the month because after Alan Wake, I want to play Silent Hill 2, but I beat it and eat it. Okay. Yeah, I could. thats we get va up Is it part of the dark pictures anthology games? I think it's not part of that. Okay. Yeah, it's its own thing. and Yeah, they got like David Arquette. They got like some people in it. um My two favorite characters in that for anyone who played it or Hodge, if you play it, um there is the first girl that you meet. She's f freaking awesome. And then there was also the hot Asian girl. So there you go. So those are my two favorites in my language. Yeah.
00:34:58
Speaker
Cool. There you go. All right. Let's move on to our Raiden for this week, which is going to set up our topic, which if you're looking at the title, you already know where our topic is. But still, let's read a Raiden from our buddy Broderick Fleming, who says, since the next episode is coming out around Halloween, do you guys have any go to games in October? I've been working on getting the Platinum for Dead Space, but I'm anxious on attempting a Impossible Mode. I don't blame you because that game is terrifying and making it harder would only make it more terrifying.
00:35:26
Speaker
so I got that for you. But so before we get into our top horror games, which is what we're doing for this week, is there do you guys have a go to game? ah Probably not for I mean, if you have a go to hot horror game for October. But if not, we can just hop right into the the topic. ah No, I just real quick. No, I've never really been that type of person. I pretty much am just always working through my backlog and the new releases. So I never have a game where I'm just going to go through and replay. I'm not that type of gamer. And I've never been a huge horror fan until recently, I guess, Sean. Yeah, I don't have a specific like game or game genre that I always play every year. A couple of two years ago, I played the Resident Evil one through four for the first time, and I might be speaking about that later. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I don't have any for October. I do occasionally like every few years I'll go back and play Bioshock again or Alan Waker.

Top Horror Games Discussion

00:36:21
Speaker
Kingdom Hearts like I'll go through and I'll play those again, but I don't have a set October like Halloween ah replay game, but but Yeah, thank you for the ride-in and the question. But yeah, we're gonna go into our top five horror games or spoopy games of all time We didn't do a top we didn't do an order. So we're just gonna go. Let's see go midnight, me, then Sean. All right. So first, number five, what is your fifth favorite horror game at midnight?
00:36:54
Speaker
Yeah, so I wrote down six games. I'm not OK. So as I mentioned, actually, on the last episode, I'm not a huge horror guy. I'm kind of a pussy. Like I've mentioned before, I don't really look to go get scared. Like I consider my life is horrific enough. Like I said, I don't really want to be scared. um So I don't have a lot of experience with horror games. So these games that I'm going to talk to you about.
00:37:18
Speaker
Like I never played silent and stuff like that. um So some of these are not going to be like the most epic horror movie games or the most scary, but they are horror adjacent or spooky games. So I think I just yeah know i had the quarry on here, but I already talked about that. So I'm going to that's going to be my honorable mention is the quarry, my number five game. And this is horror adjacent. I don't think this is really a horror game, but it has horror elements. And this is going to be a This is a deep cut. Nobody would see this coming because this game kind of got shit on a little bit beyond two souls. Beyond two souls was a, was the follow up to heavy rain, right? It was from a Detroit become human developer. What was their name? David cage. I'm blanking on their name. Do you remember who developed that game? I don't know who cares. So the developers of Detroit become human and heavy rain. They did beyond two souls.
00:38:13
Speaker
um Sean, look it up for us. Why can't I remember? qua dream qua dream Quantic dream qua Dream. Yeah, so I've been a fan of them. I really like their games. These are, again, kind of narrative choice-based games, kind of similar to you know the supermassive games that we were just talking about. um And I like that stuff. You know, i'm always I'm always the big RPG guy that loves choice and consequence. How many times have I said choice and consequence on this show? A lot.
00:38:36
Speaker
Um, but yeah, beyond two souls, you play as a, it's been a long time since I played it. So I don't remember everything, but you play as a girl and she has like a sibling who died and and their spirit is with you and like helping you. And you kind of traveled between the planes and the ghost helps you. And it was a cool story. And I really enjoyed this game. It got a lot of hate as well for some reason, probably because it wasn't as good as heavy rain. Um, but I enjoyed it. Keeping it short and brief beyond two souls is my number five. Interesting. Cool.
00:39:05
Speaker
Yeah, before I moved into mine, I loved Heavy Rain. I was actually, almost I almost included it on my list because I did love that game. I've actually never played Beyond Two Souls, so it's I feel like that is one I should get to one day. That's the one with ah with Ellen Page, right? It is. Yeah, Ellen Page. Before before they turned into Elliot. Yeah. It's a good game.
00:39:27
Speaker
I never played Heavy Rain, but I do have vivid memories of 8th grade. It came out when I was in the spring of 8th grade, and I'll never forget this girl. I had a huge crush on 8th grade. She was playing it, and I remember talking to her on like, AIMS. I didn't have a phone. I didn't have a phone until I was a freshman, and I was talking to her on AIMS. She's like, yeah, I'm playing this game called Heavy Rain. I'm like, you know what Heavy Rain is? That's crazy. She was telling me about it, and I was like, oh, I don't want to go out with her. And then I asked her out, and she said, no.
00:39:58
Speaker
Yeah, that's my life, so there you go. Probably shouldn't have done it in like over aim. what We were like, hey, do you want to go out with me? That's a lot. So the days the days of AIM, that's the whole hands. Yep. Neo Cortex. That's my name. Yeah, there you go. All right. My number five is it's not specifically survival horror, but it is. it's It's the same as you where it's basically that is Bioshock. This game is horrifying, especially the opening when you when you're in the little tube coming down and all of a sudden there's a guy who just gets murdered by a splicer and then they scream and run up into the rafters like,
00:40:36
Speaker
All right, we're in for it. So it's it is definitely a terrifying game at times. It's obviously more of an action shooter than it is a horror game, but it has so many horror elements and it is terrifying and creepy and everyone's lost their freaking minds. So I would definitely call it a spoopy game, if not a specifically horror survival horror type game. But yeah, Bioshock. It's my favorite game ever made or I think it's the best game ever made. And it's tied for my favorite. time It's hard to pick. but uh yeah Bioshock it's of just a phenomenal like i've said it a million times rapture is the greatest setting in video game history it's just all around a perfect game so that is my number five for horror uh what do you think about that one midnight you know that probably would have been in my list too i was debating on whether or not i would should include that in a horror spooky games list because it's kind of
00:41:29
Speaker
toes that line and I decided not to include it but it would be in my list I'm sure because it's a masterpiece. Bioshock is awesome. Great pick. Awesome setting. Fun game. Amazing story. If you guys haven't played Bioshock any of the three games, I love all three. Go play them. What are you doing?
00:41:46
Speaker
Yeah. fix your life um Yeah. And so i I include I put it at number five just because it's not really like my four games below it are horror were games. So I put it at five just because it's not because obviously it would be number one if it's just my favorite. So.
00:42:00
Speaker
But yeah, Sean, what about your number five or if you have anything else to say about Bioshock? I love Bioshock. I think it's a fantastic game. I played one and two back to back for the first time a couple of years ago and was pulled away. They're not on my list. I knew Hodge was going to put Bioshock on his list and I don't really consider that again.
00:42:17
Speaker
I'm doing more of like mine. yeah You'll see what my list is. It's it's more of like a Halloween themed games. Maybe not spooky, but you know, it's my list. So I didn't include Bioshock, but fantastic choice. Game holds up incredibly well today. All right. We'll get to my number five. and This is going to surprise a lot of people. I'll be surprised if Midnight's even heard of this game.
00:42:39
Speaker
This is Hodge. You probably heard of it. This is Number five, Codename Kids Next Door Trick or Treat the Cartoon Network.com Flash Game from the mid 2000s where you walk around as one of the Codename Kids Next Door members dressed as a costume and you go trick or treating. Your whole idea is like you're fighting off... um like enemy like teenagers too are trying to steal your candy it's pretty funny you're fighting them uh this is just like i threw this in the air i also want to shut out the grim adventures of billy and mandy halloween game where you run around with the sight oh it's you know game i'm talking about right i i i very briefly know what you're talking like i don't i didn't play it but it's one of those my brother my younger brother loved codename kids next door so i remember it
00:43:23
Speaker
a little bit from him playing it, but I didn't play it myself. So yeah, I'm just gonna shout out those, um those are my number five. i want I'm gonna include those Cartoon Network flash games, the Grim Adventure of Billy and Mandy, where you run around as Mandy in the grim costume with a scythe, and you're just killing like spiders and stuff and running around. Just put a cool platformer, 2D flash game platformer. And then Codename Kithnextdoor, Trick or Treat, where you're fighting teenagers who are trying to steal your candy, and you're running around trying to um you know get candy.
00:43:53
Speaker
there we go hi dude i I can't believe you didn't think I would ah know this game. dude That's one of my favorite games of all time. I love when the guy goes into the place and gets killed. dude It is freaking awesome. I've i've never heard of that. no I've never. I think I must be too old.
00:44:07
Speaker
Have you heard of those cartoons, though? No, I never do. Not in my life. When when you said that, I instantly got a flashback. I used to play this flash game. It was called, I think, like Garfield's scary scavenger hunt or something like that. And it was a flash game where you're Garfield in a haunted house. And I loved it because I grew up. I was a kid who grew up reading the the newspaper comics every single morning. I wanted to be a comic book artist when I was a kid. And so I was obsessed with Peanuts and Garfield. And I played that Garfield game all the time. and I loved it. But yeah. um Yeah. Midnight. man What about you? Moving on. i I'm guessing you have nothing to say about Codenames Kids Next Door. It's your favorite show. So it was your number four. Midnight. Just go look in the Discord real quick. I just put a picture in it. OK. Let me go look in the Discord real quick and look at this picture. OK. This looks like a video game. Codenames Kids Next Door. Oh, it is a video game.
00:45:00
Speaker
And we're talking, we're talking about video games. I don't know why for some reason I was thinking of movies and shows. We're literally doing a video game. Okay. That looks cool. His next door was a Cartoon Network show. Okay. That's what threw me off. Okay. yeah All right. That's cool. I never played this. Never heard of it. You could have made it up and I would have believed that it was real, but I guess it's real since there's a screenshot. So, all right. Shout out to that game. All right. My number four, boys. Now we're getting into actual kind of horror. I'm going to go with, so I put Resident Evil one slash two. I'm going to go with Resident Evil one.
00:45:28
Speaker
just because I actually remember parts of that. I played Resident Evil 2 way back on the PlayStation 2 when it first came out like a million years ago. I can't i can't remember a damn thing about that. I know everyone loves 2. They're like, 2's the best. I can't remember anything that happened, like not a single thing. But Resident Evil 1, I do have some vivid memories of ah going through that mansion. I talked about before the epic scene where you meet the first zombie and he turns and looks at you and it looks so scary. Of course, there's the moment when you're walking through the hallway and there's a crash and something jumps through the window. Super scary. know Resident Evil 1, that's gonna be my number four pick. Obviously an iconic horror juggernaut, Bioshock. It's called, I think, not Bioshock, Biohazard in Japan. Yeah, yeah that's my pick, Resident Evil 1.
00:46:25
Speaker
As I had mentioned before, my dad gave up on Nintendo after the N64, oh before, right before the N64 came out, but he did get that Resident Evil remake game on GameCube. It came with two discs. It was like the first Resident Evil remake. I'll never forget him playing it one night, and one of my friends is over, and like he started crying, my friend, and he had to go home. But he couldn't take it. How old was he? We were like six or seven. We were either five or six. Probably me six or seven because I got it for my sixth birthday. So it was probably six or seven. And he was crying and he had to go home. And it was like... And that that kid would my after the kid left, my dad said, that kid's not coming over here again.
00:47:04
Speaker
That's hilarious. They have no annoying kids crying when I'm trying to get my game on, you know? It was pretty funny. Yeah, I do remember that. Nice. um yeah resident i i tried playing resident evil the remaster uh a little bit ago after i played the other remakes that came out two and three and it the door animation thing was so annoying that i just literally stopped playing because of it i was like And like I couldn't do a tank control. So I'm like, as a kid, I probably could have handled this. But after playing the remakes and the more modern Resident Evils, I'm like, I can't come in. So it's one of that I kind of hope they remake again. So I can go back to it. But yeah, ah it's I. Resident Evil is such a cool like electricity world. And yeah, it's so. Oh, I'm sorry. No, you're good dog good. No, no, no. Finish. I was literally just saying and I enjoy it. But yeah, so you're up.
00:47:58
Speaker
All right, I apologize for cutting up. I just think it's so interesting and so funny, like the juxtaposition of the ages that we have here, because you're talking about how you went back and you're like, oh, this is so janky and old and busted, like with the controls and stuff. And my experience of playing it like when it came out day one in like 1996 or whatever the fuck it was, like I literally was like, this is insane graphics. Like I thought that zombie was real when he looked at you. I was scared as hell. I was like, what the, these graphics are nuts. And you're like, man, I can't deal with this old crap. It's funny how time time just like I like people say that the first Kingdom Hearts aged horribly and I still think it plays amazingly So I'm sure it's just one of those things of it's like when you learn how to do something You don't forget how to let you don't forget that muscle my time and play things kind of place. Yeah, exactly. Exactly Also random shout out to Bucky's the Lord of all yeah
00:48:51
Speaker
I don't have my little Bucky. I have a Halloween Bucky, but I don't have mine. Anyway, moving on to my number four is I'm going to go with Untilt Dawn. ah We obviously talked about it a little bit earlier, but I loved this game. I played it a little bit after it come out. I didn't play it at launch. I bought it. It was back when I still went to GameStop and bought physical games. So I owned it physically on PS4.
00:49:14
Speaker
And I loved it. every its Just the fact that, like you said, when you think you're making the right decision, you're killing someone by accident. There's ah there's a little twist in the game that you don't see kind of coming. But yeah, it's it's a very, very cool idea. And I love games that really go all in on your choices matter. Cause like, obviously there's always those games where it's like, do you pick the good side or the bad side? You're either going to be more good or more bad. Like that's kind of the powers you get. But in this, it's just straight up. Do you want to go through this door or not? Do you want to go down that hallway or not? It's just like, I don't know. Let's take that risk. And then suddenly our heads jumped off like fuck.
00:49:52
Speaker
So like it's it's a true horror game of you don't know like people always joke when you're watching a movie like don't go behind that door that's where the killer is but like in real life in real life but that's when you have kind of the the thought of you know you're watching a horror movie you know it's gonna be there but when you're living in that moment you're like I don't know where this person it's just a really cool idea. I am excited to play the quarry now that you reminded me that it's on Game Pass. I do need to get around to that. so um But yeah, until dawn, I think it's awesome. Midnight, what do you think about?
00:50:29
Speaker
You know, Until Dawn is awesome. I didn't play it. As I mentioned, I watched a playthrough of it. um I forget who I was watching. I don't know if it was like Optic Big Timer or Chris Smoove or someone. I was watching these YouTubers and I saw the whole story and the choices they made and it was just, it was super awesome. A great story. great A lot of fun. I do actually need to go back and play it one time and make my own choices and see who lives and dies. um But randomly when you were talking about people making the, you know, the choices um I had a funny thought of one of the best commercials ever. Shout out to that Geico Halloween commercial. Every year they're gonna play it. Dude, it's so good. They're like, they're like, why don't we just get in the running car? And they're like, that's stupid. Let's go hide behind the chainsaws. So funny. That that thing's been going on since I think I was in middle school. And it's they still air it every year. It's the same with that the they are real, the M&M's Christmas commercial. Every yeah, it's like
00:51:31
Speaker
oh man um honestly i think rammy malick's character just because he's such a phenomenal then hayden pentier she's kind of like you know the
00:52:15
Speaker
yeah sean what about your number four Alright, we're gonna move on to my number four. And at number four, I have a little game like a point and click adventure. This is a Tim Shafer game, right?
00:52:42
Speaker
I believe, is it double fine, right? i double double fine Double fine, yeah. yeah um That's what I meant. That's Tim Shaker, right? Yep. Yeah, okay. um I was never a like a point and click adventure kid outside of like the jumpstart first grade, jumpstart second grade games, like these like PC games, so like educational things, but so I decided to pick up the scrim fan Dango game and I was like blown away. I thought one, it was hilarious. Two,
00:53:08
Speaker
it had like a spooky feel to it especially with like everyone's everyone's dead basically um you know skeletons are walking around um the writing is incredible i thought the amount of this this game had a lot of choice too with dialogue and it was a puzzle like the puzzles are really complex and kind of obscure but the game is not too difficult and i just love the whole atmosphere of the game um there's like different area there's like pseudo levels kind of like there's like different areas for each level Um, all of them are, you know, spooky themed. There's like a cemetery for one. There's, um, there's a Day of the Dead parade level, which is kind of cool. Uh, overall, I really enjoyed this game and, um, it made me want to pick up, like, other Double Fine games. And I've tried other Double Fine games, but none of them have clipped, like, from, from Fandango. And they're actually one of the cool things was the game came out with tank controls originally.
00:54:02
Speaker
In this game, they took away the tank controls, so there's like no tank you can play without tank controls. But there is an achievement, so that's trophy to play it with tank controls. But Grim Fandango, it was a great game. I remember when I played it, I was in college, with my freshman year of college, my roommate watched me play it, and he had played it when he was a kid.
00:54:19
Speaker
But he had like no memory of it, like at all. And just like the the iconic cover, like I just love the cover with the skeletons on there. And I just love the cool design.
00:54:33
Speaker
Yeah, the whole art style is awesome. But yeah, the main character, Manny, he is like he's just hilarious. And yeah, I just I love the game. I know it's not like a spooky, spooky game, but just spooky settings and i everyone's dead. Yeah. um Yeah. grim fanango Have you so you have you played or tried Psychonauts one and two?
00:54:53
Speaker
I've not played them. No, I've not played those. Oh, those are so good. That's for me. And I know those are those are like different different type of games, but the same studio. Yeah. Like I tried the platformers, though, which is fantastic. I love them. Like I tried that other game by them. Came up before that. I can't remember because it was LucasArts at the time. I tried some of those old LucasArts games like was it like Day of the Tentacle?
00:55:19
Speaker
Yeah, day of the time ago. Yeah, I've never played like a maniac mansion. Like I tried those games and I could just never get into them. um But Grim Fandango like clicked for me. Broken Age costume quest. See, I never did costume class. I heard good things, though. Yeah, but I wanted to try that one just because it's costumes. So I kind of wanted to try that one. But ah but yeah. ah Yeah. Midnight, do you got anything else to say about that or are you just moving into your number three?
00:55:47
Speaker
Unfortunately, I have never played a Double Fine game. So I got nothing to say to that. I'm sure it's awesome, though. Never played Psychonauts. Psychonauts looks really cool, though. So one day I should play it. Yeah, they're fancy. All right. Am I up? Yep. It's all you. All right. My number three is going to be TellTales, The Walking Dead.
00:56:07
Speaker
and And particularly with emphasis on the first episode with Lee and Clementine. That was freaking peak. That was peak storytelling. An amazing, awesome story with a very good ending. Very emotionally powerful ending. What a great game. I'll keep it short. If you have never played TellTales, The Walking Dead, definitely I recommend. It's a great story. You make choices. People live and die.
00:56:35
Speaker
And it is really really good and there's multiple episodes after that if you want to play them too Which are also good, but particularly that first episode or whatever. They call it first season. Whatever. Yeah is is peak Yeah, I remember I remember loving the first one I played the second and it was like 400 days or whatever was the like that will spin off I played those ones and they were good and But, yeah, the first one is peak. It's so, so good. Yeah, that ending is insane. How good it is. um Yeah, i I absolutely adore this. I kind of I was for a while I would play telltale games as they kind of finished because I hated reading. I can't stand that. It's like it's one thing if they would release them like every week, like you have like if you caught up to it kind of like a show, because they're only like they're like an hour an episode or whatever. They're not that long.
00:57:25
Speaker
And, but the fact that they always had to wait like four months between episodes was, it just killed that gameplay style. And so I always waited for them to finish, but yeah, Telltale games are, they were a blast just cause it's another one of those was where your choices matter. Like, you know, you hit it and up in the corner and say like, you know, Jimmy will remember that kind of thing. and So yeah, that that first season though, it's it's clutch. what ah What do you think, Sean?
00:57:52
Speaker
So the only Telltale games I've played are the the original Telltale games, like the Back to the Future games on PS3, because I'm a huge Back to the Future guy. I was never into The Walking Dead, but I think that game came out, it was 20, what year did that game come out? 2012? 2011? 2011. Whatever year it came out, my sister was home from college for for like the summer.
00:58:13
Speaker
I remember she played through it. cause She loves the walking. She like loved it. She was like hardcore into the walking. They're like reading the graphic novels and told me to all into that. And she played through it. I remember watching her play through it a little bit of it. And I just like I couldn't get over how janky it was. Oh, my gosh. Like I'm not one of those guys who's like, oh, I can't play this for this janky. It's graphics, graphics. But like I like couldn't get over the way it looked, the jankiness. And again, I'm not like Into that IP but she she adored all of them and then I she fell off the walking dad though. She was she's done Oh, yeah, the show the show got the show got very bad. Yeah, I vividly remember her playing it though that one of those summers even 2011 or 2012 Yeah, the look of the game was based on what the comics looks like It was a very very accurate Representation of the the comics and so I loved it for that cuz I did love the comics. I thought they were fantastic I actually never finished I felt
00:59:04
Speaker
I stopped like 15 issues before it ended. But yeah, it was a great show for a while. And it it was a much better comic than it was a show. But yeah, Walking Dead is it's legit.
00:59:16
Speaker
Or it was. um Yeah, moving on. My number three, I'm going to go with Resident Evil two remake because I never played the

Resident Evil 2 Remake and Iconic Games

00:59:24
Speaker
originals. I've only played I the first Resident Evil I actually played was seven. So I had I hadn't no experience with the I just didn't care about him when I was a kid. I was playing platformers and you know more happy go lucky games and.
00:59:37
Speaker
So I never really played many horror games as a kid. But when two came out, I actually didn't play it right away. I waited. It was like on sale for 20 bucks or something like a couple of months later. And so I bought it and I was blown away about how good this game is. Like it is unbelievable. It's I love it also because it has that Metroidvania of like when you're in the police station, there's areas where you can't go until later when you get something or solve a puzzle. and it's it was just every bit about the the gameplay was so fun and there was always just a certain amount of zombies there was never more nevertheless it was just that same zombie in the hallway until you basically blew its head off with a shotgun it was going to keep coming for you and i loved that about it because
01:00:20
Speaker
the The corpse was always there. The entire time you played that game, that corpse or that zombie you killed, it's always going to be there. And if you walked into the room and the corpse was gone, you're like, oh crap, where did it go? And then later that zombie would come back and you're like, yeah. But so I just, it was amazing and it was scary. It was a very scary game. Like.
01:00:39
Speaker
I've been watching horror movies with my cousin who I'm living with and he's not he's a chicken when it comes to horror movies So I've gotten him by like basically having someone else in the room with him is what's convinced him to play it and I was like At the time I'm playing and I'm like I'm playing Resident Evil 2. It's awesome. You're never gonna play and so ah it's It's a fantastic, everything I know you all really good though. Yeah, I really have nothing to say. Like I mentioned this earlier, I did play this game. I remember playing it, but I cannot remember a single thing about it. It was so long ago. I don't know why. It just wasn't as memorable as the first game for me. So Sean, you go ahead, sir.
01:01:23
Speaker
Yeah, I played it a couple of years ago. I never played the original RE2 remake. It's awesome. Like, yeah. I never played it. I didn't play the before remake, but like really crazy. i'm I remember I was playing with the lights off at night in the dark and like a cold, cold October night. I remember just like, ah go oh my gosh, what's going on?
01:01:51
Speaker
And, um, yeah, it is. And then I remember Claire came up, she was working at night shift and of all, she worked at the three to 11 shift and I remember she came home, she opened open the door and like, that was like 11 30. I freaked out. I'm like, Oh my gosh. Yeah, it it was a rainy. It was a rainy day. But yeah, Resident Evil two is great. I think the gameplay is fantastic too. I think they did a really good job um changing the game. but As from from talking with my dad about it, he thinks that RE2 remake did wonders to the original. Yeah.
01:02:19
Speaker
I played three also. It's good, but it's not nearly as good as Resident two Evil 2's remake. And then other than that, I've only played seven. So I'm really looking forward to getting to four and eight eventually. But I don't care about five and six unless they remake or make it a little better because I hear they're not that great. But yeah, two and three and seven I enjoyed. I only included two on my list because one is the best one, but two, I didn't want to include a bunch of games from the same series.
01:03:18
Speaker
But this is a really cool spin on the whole infamous series. It takes place before the end of the game. So what it is is, it's Cole's best friend Zeke is telling a story.
01:03:36
Speaker
about something that happened to Cole and to someone at a bar and it's what it is is you enter a church could you hear screams for those who don't know in infinites a lot of times you're trying to save people and you hear screams it turns out there's vampires in there and you go in this whole quest about like it's like a Van Helsing like kind of like play on Van Helsing you go in this whole quest and you you incorporate your power you have like lightning power for Cole
01:04:09
Speaker
Punch did a great job. If you like Infamous, it's more of like Infamous. It takes place in the same
01:04:46
Speaker
and I've never I've never heard of that. You never heard of festival of blood No, I never I never played infamous to I just I don't know why I loved I loved the first one and I just never got around to the second one It's one of those when I would love for them to bring forward from the ps3 Because I still also need to play second son. I know I have that from PS plus or whatever But yeah, I'd never heard of that DLC. That is that sounds awesome yeah um one thing i'll say about the dlc too is if you don't own infamous 2 like so so you can still play this dlc it's what i love about sucker punch a really cool expansion they did a really good job with it it's like a it's just like a ah spin-off like oh my gosh what if this happened it's really cool
01:05:46
Speaker
two. Well, I think Sean is awesome for picking a sucker punch game because sucker punch is one of my favorite developers, as he mentioned. But I did not play the old infamous games, as I mentioned. My first one was Second Son on the PS4.
01:06:02
Speaker
um I never really played the old ones. I don't know. I was like an ex-bot back then, you know, playing, uh, yeah. Yeah. Back then. Um, yeah, but shout out to, uh, shout out to sucker punch ghost of Yota. Yota is going to be the best game ever made next year. So, all right. As I'm up, getp my number two is going to be The Last of Us from Naughty Dog. The Last of Us is ah honestly the best game on this list, but it's not as horror themed as my next one. So I put it at number two. ah The Last of Us is an awesome game. It is horror spooky theme. Of course you're fighting off infected. ah And the whole the whole game is scary. Like even the human people coming after you is very scary. um You know, you're scavenging. You have limited amounts of ammo. It's just a masterpiece game. We've talked about this before. It is a 10 out of 10 game.
01:06:56
Speaker
It is a certified banger. ah It's flawless. There was not a single thing that I would change about The Last of Us Part 1 at all. I mean, maybe, I mean, maybe if they wanted to add like some choice and consequences, maybe you could make a choice at the end of the game. But I'm not mad at them for telling their own story because their own story was awesome. And you know what? I would have made the exact same choice. I'm not going to say what the choice is because I don't want to spoil it, even though this is old.
01:07:23
Speaker
And you should have played the game. I can't believe you would have killed that giraffe. That's crazy. bro That giraffe. No, I'm just kidding. The giraffe was awesome. Shout out to the giraffe. Oh, and by the way, as a random shout out here, when you were talking about killing those vampires, Sean, that reminded me of one of my favorite spooky movies that I forgot to mention. The Underworld movies. Shout out to the Underworld movies with Kate Beckinsale looking all hot.
01:07:49
Speaker
You know just doing all kinds of vampire stuff in that leather suit shout out to that Also, I want to shout out the Disney Channel original Halloween movies, you know, Halloween town. I mean town. Yes
01:08:11
Speaker
Hell yeah, those are great movies. um and So The Last of Us, well what are your thoughts, Sean? Oh, I love The Last of Us. I think it's a fabulous game. if It's not on my list because I don't consider it like a... I never even thought about putting it on the list, but oh my gosh, amazing game. Absolutely fantastic. out Only outdone by its sequel. I know, it's contentious. That's why I said it. It's a joke. I agree as a Sony pony. I completely agree.
01:08:34
Speaker
Good. You should. You should. Sony rules. Sony ponies rule. um No. um Yeah. Last of Us. Fantastic game. And arguably probably the best game on
01:08:49
Speaker
Yeah, i and i I had it on my list that I was picking from. I ended up not picking it because I just i wanted to go with spoopier games, because obviously yeah you're it's an infected, you're playing against, quote unquote, zombies, basically. ah So yeah, it definitely it it definitely includes, or it's included in the spoopiness, but yeah, I didn't put it in my top
01:09:17
Speaker
Great game, so that's a great choice, but my number two is Dead Space remake I was very close to going with Dead Space 2 because I think it's very awesome But the first one is so it's two and three I actually fell off three I couldn't do it. I it was But two it was good, but it was definitely more action than horror so I didn't want to include that one, but the Dead Space remake I I remember I played the original Dead Spaces demo on 360 way back in the day and I just didn't like it. I was using the cutter where you go horizontal or you know vertical when you're shooting. And I was using that and I was like, this just just feels weird. i don't um I just fell off. I didn't like it. I just didn't enjoy the demo. So forever, I was just like, ed Dead Space is just not a series for me. I don't like it. but then
01:10:08
Speaker
Like as mean it was on this podcast earlier this year, I went and finally played Dead Space Remake and I was floored by how good of a game that was. And obviously the remake has quality of life
01:10:26
Speaker
But yeah, it the horror elements are terrifying, but the gameplay is so good. It's super interesting with like the whole religious kind of cult kind of thing that also turns people into evil negro necromorphs or whatever they're called in that game. And yeah, I never played at the Dead Space remake, but I think that's a good pick.
01:10:55
Speaker
Obviously, that is a great game. I don't have too much to add for that. Go ahead, Sean. Yeah, Dead Space Remake. I never played the original, so I only played the remake, and just walking down like a corridor, and you just can't hear anything. It's dead silent.
01:11:21
Speaker
and it's really a really and it plays so well um i do have a vivid memory of remember 2008 getting a game in former dead space was on the cover i was like reading about this scheme looks awesome and then for some reason i never got it i don't know why but yeah that's a great pick Dude, speaking of before you get into your game, I remember seeing Bioshock on the cover of Game Informer and I thought it looked stupid because I was like, submarine people and little girls, what is this crap? And then playing the demo and be like, I was very wrong. And then it became one of my favorite games of all time. Yeah, Sean, what's your number two? All right. My number two was originally going to be
01:12:06
Speaker
Resident Evil 4, it was originally gonna be Resident, sorry, sorry, it was originally gonna be Resident Evil 4, but then I, you know what, I started thinking, and I'm like, we've talked about Resident Evil enough, I just wanna give a shout out to Resident Evil 4, it's a great game, and I know how I keep playing it. I still need to play it, I've heard it's the best, so I need to play it. It's pretty awesome, and I played the original one, it was great. But, I'm gonna include a nice little, somewhat tactics-based RPG, turn-based tactical RPG,
01:12:32
Speaker
Not really spooky theme called Eichenfell or Inkenfell, however you want to say it, Eichenfell. This is an indie game that came out, I played it in, came out in 2020 October. I played it like a couple months later and I fell in love with it. It takes place in like a wizarding school and so so many mysteries about this game and there's like ah everyone's a different wizard and you have like different spells and that's like your basis of attack.
01:12:55
Speaker
um It's a tactical RPG game, so again, it's a lot like Mega Man Battle Network, how that is set up, like the turn-based combat. The story is awesome,
01:13:36
Speaker
Yeah, I'm looking at pictures right now and it looks Interesting. I've never heard of it. It's awesome. Yeah, but I applied them takes place in like a wizarding school. It gave me Harry Potter vibes, but like, yeah, like it's it's it's pretty cool. Dude, why does this look almost look identical to the Operation Trick or Treat game screenshot that you know exactly?
01:14:06
Speaker
It looks like, I swear to God, I'm about to put this in the Discord, too. These screenshots side by side, obviously it's not exactly the same, but I mean, look, very similar. But anyway. It's a great game. I highly suggest it. A little spooky, a little suspenseful. It's very suspenseful. It leaves you on the edge of your seat. You don't want to put it down. Nice. Yeah, I have nothing to add to that. So if at midnight you want to get to your number one. Yeah, unfortunately, Sean, I've never heard of that one, but it looks cool. It sounds cool.
01:14:36
Speaker
My number one. is going to be Dead Space. That's right. The original Dead Space, that's why I didn't say too much when when you were doing your remake. I didn't play the remake, which is true. But I did play the original back on the Xbox 360. And what a great game this was on the Ishimura, I think it was. The ship, awesome vibes, really fun exploration, really cool with the cutter cutting off the limbs and stuff. Very spooky, spooky. Is that what you've been saying? Spooky since instead of spooky?
01:15:09
Speaker
ah Yeah, like it's just a great game. I don't I can't tell you exactly what the plot was because I played this in 2013 or whatever the hell it was. And my memory sucks. I'm freaking over. I'm a pickle. All right. Pickles don't have the best memories, guys. But I remember absolutely loving this game. I mean, this game is a masterpiece of the horror genre. That's why it's got remade. I absolutely love this game. Shout out to Dead Space. That is my number one pick.
01:15:36
Speaker
The only games that, in my opinion, on all these lists that are better than Dead Space is The Last of Us and Bioshock. Dead Space is awesome. And I played all three of them. And I liked all three of them, although three was a little bit little bit musty. It wasn't the best game ever. But one and two were absolutely phenomenal. So shout out to Dead Space.
01:15:56
Speaker
I need to go play the remake one of these days. Yeah, you do. It's so good. It's so and I need to play. It was cold it's actually this month's PlayStation Plus game game of gold. So if you if you still are part of that out of your library, get that always in your library. Yeah.
01:16:14
Speaker
Because, yeah, everyone should I never played the original, but like I
01:16:31
Speaker
it's fantastic yeah but my number one I am this is my first biggest I don't know I'm cheating with this one because I couldn't decide between these two games and that is Alan Wake one and two and so I'm just going with Alan Wake series is basically my number one all right fine we'll go Alan Wake two just because it has the better gameplay and it is a lot scarier Um, the, the, just for people who, I mean, I don't need to go into it again, but forever, but just as a quick little summary of what it is. Alan Wake is a writer who's having writer's block. He's a very successful kind of Stephen King esque writer. Uh, and so his wife says, Hey, let's go out, just get away from the city and relax and hopefully give you some time. And when they get there, she, he realizes she brought a typewriter, try and go to type and.
01:17:20
Speaker
Then, a week later, something happens, he wakes up without his memory, doesn't know where he's been for the last week, and there's a bunch of ah pages of a manuscript of what exactly is what's happening. And he has to solve the mystery of why is- how did I predict kind of this, and what's going on, why are people turning to evil.
01:17:37
Speaker
And then the second one just expands on that. he gets and he gets ah He's in the dark place, as they call it, which is he's trying to escape. And Saga Anderson, who is the FBI agent out in the world, is trying to figure out where he went and what's going on in this town and what's going on. But it's just the but the lighting and graphics in this game are second to none. It is unbelievable how gay good this game looks. toer They changed it from kind of a an action third-person shooter into a survival third-person horror game and so it took a step up into the horror where the first one there's like jump scares and stuff a little bit like a person will come out of a bush while you're walking in the forest but there's really nothing too terrifying but this second one is horror horror horror horror
01:18:24
Speaker
game and as everyone knows it's one of my favorite games of all time so yeah it is by far my favorite spoopy game both of them but I'm going with two because you're making things up yeah there you go I mean if if we're you know we like to do who had the best list If we do who has the best list for this one, I'm going to go out and go out on

FromSoft Games and Final Thoughts on Halloween

01:18:44
Speaker
a limb and predict that Hodge wins, because looking at his list, every single game is a certified banger on his list. This dude has Bioshock, Until Dawn, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Dead Space Remake, and Alan Wake 2. Like that's, and you can't top that really. so yeah With maybe the exception that you have Last of Us on yours.
01:19:02
Speaker
Yeah, I got the last of us telltales walking dead dead space. Yeah, what about coding is that store trick-or-treat? My bad my bad. Yeah, ah but yeah midnight if you got anything else to add before we get to Sean's opinion and his number one Nah, take it away Sean. Yeah, I'll get that Alan wake eventually. I'm going
01:19:28
Speaker
this is a firmsoft game as you know my first ever bosses in this game rom the spider will be to always be the overall like spooky vibes the eerie atmosphere this game has when you're walking along everything is just so it's that gothic look yeah the gothic look and everything is just so like dead everything looks dead but when you're going through you're fighting these typical firm soft souls like game you're fighting the bosses fighting the enemies getting your souls
01:20:08
Speaker
but it's just so the way that it looked just gave you this like eerie eerie feeling that made you feel uncomfortable as you're going through the game and i definitely like i want to reply i have so many like memories of just like oh my gosh i have all these souls on me i can't die i can't die i can't die i'm trying to run back to the campfire or the bonfire getting killed and being like oh my gosh and then spawning trying to go back and get it getting killed and you'll lose all your souls and you're like all right that's great um It is such a good game. I think all the firms off games are pretty spooky in general. But yeah, Bloodborne. Great game. We need the 60 FPS batch on PS5. So, Sony Pony, where is it? I don't know. I'll go. I'll go talk to whoever the hell is in charge now. I don't even know. I was going to say Jim Ryan, but he's he's gone. Herman Holst. I don't know what the hell it is. But yeah, Midnight, what do you think about that?
01:21:03
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, I think it's a great pick, but I never played it. um I just I never played a FromSoft game or a Souls game until Elden Ring. That was my first one. And that game was incredible. One of these days, I might go back and play Bloodborne, but I don't have a huge desire to go back and play these old FromSoft games. I don't know why. um I just don't, even though I loved Elden Ring so much. But yeah, I mean, everyone loves that game. It's definitely got the spooky vibes. It looks fun. It looks cool.
01:21:32
Speaker
um I hope hope you Bloodborne fans get your remake soon or or a sequel or something. Or just a patch to make it 60. That's what I'm holding out on. Like I haven't played Bloodborne yet and it's the only one that's ever appealed to me because I don't care about like the night kind of Dark Souls or Demon Souls kind of look. I don't care about that. But Bloodborne had such a cool setting that I wanted to play it. But obviously the gameplay is keeping me away. I'm not a big not a big souls like gamer. I'm not good enough to play those. So, but Bloodborne is just so cool looking that I would love to give it a try. But at this point, yeah, I'm not going to play it at 30 FPS. I need a 60 patch or just a, if they want to do the $10 PS5 upgrade fee, I don't care if they do that. I do want to say that Sony pony. You got to say it with enthusiasm.
01:22:17
Speaker
Oh, yeah, dude, if they only gave it to us for ten dollars, that would be amazing and everyone should play it and never play anything else. But yeah, I would I would love to play it. But yeah, I need the I need the next gen
01:22:35
Speaker
FPS so but yeah, that's a great choice. I know it's beloved by everyone. So Great great lists from everyone. Anything else before we move on to our final thoughts? Yes Yeah, I'm a pickle so I Almost put in our list hodge one of your you and mine's Favorite games of all time. I almost included because it's spooky adjacent and I'm talking about death strange Oh, that game's awesome. Almost made it in my list, but I wasn't sure. it was It's not quite horror enough, even though it does have those horror vibes. But that game's just awesome. It's really just the time fall. It's the only time it's even remotely scary. or The time fall and the and the little the little ghost dudes that you fight, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's really where it's at. but yeah um So yeah, moving on to our final thoughts. Let's move into Sean. You got anything else you want to say before we go?
01:23:31
Speaker
oh overall Overall, great, great, great list. Great job hosting Hodge. We all did a really good job. I think by far Code Name Kids Next Door was the best game on this list. A little trick-or-treat flash game. So if you can somehow find a way to play that game. Dude, it makes me want to play that Garfield game I was talking about. I loved it so much. But yeah, Midnight, what about you?
01:23:56
Speaker
Yeah, it it's been a lot of fun. Hodge, great job on the Hostage. you You know, you are the Lord of Halloween, so it was only right to have you emcee this affair. It's been a lot of fun. Everyone check out the YouTube so you can see our awesome costumes. um And yeah, shout out to Halloween. I've really enjoyed these games and movies. I think I'm going to get into this more as a yearly thing now. Be a little bit less of a pussy and enjoy these more.
01:24:20
Speaker
I think that's a good thing. And I just random shout out to one of the most spooky gaming experiences anyone could ever experience. And that's a modern day skill-based matchmaking call of duty lobby. You get in those high skill-based matchmaking lobbies. Ooh, that's scary. um That's my final thought. Yeah, my ah my final thought is just, yeah, I love Halloween, love these games, love talking, anything spoopy related. So I'm thankful to have hosted this episode. that was It was a lot of fun. I haven't hosted a podcast since I did my own.
01:24:50
Speaker
And that last episode we did was four years ago, I think. So yeah, it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed doing this, but ah that's it for me. i The Sony Pony, speaking for the Riddler and Pickle Midnight saying goodbye, everyone. Enjoy Halloween.
01:25:09
Speaker
Goodbye. What is it that no one wants to have, but no one wants to lose? oh an Xbox cause Xbox sucks.
01:25:21
Speaker
and landed there I'm just kidding. Shout out Xbox. ah
