Why is the Election Season Crucial for Black Mothers?

00:00:22
Speaker
Today, I'm talking to you about something that is deeply personal and urgent.
00:00:27
Speaker
why this election season matters. This isn't just another election. This one holds immense weight for black mothers and families and for our communities, for our black and brown families and our beautiful babies and the world we want to leave behind for them. I want to talk to you today as a mother, as a mom who is navigating the reality of raising black children in a world where policies, politics, and social so shifts impact our day-to-day lives in a big way. So let's dive into why this season matters and why your voice is so powerful in shaping our future.

Human Rights and Body Autonomy at Risk

00:01:09
Speaker
Let's face it. Our human rights are on the line. Our rights to our bodies
00:01:21
Speaker
are on the line. As Black and brown mothers, we know how often policies seem to be set against our community, whether it's access to health care, fair pay, or safe quality education for our children. When we vote, we're not just marking a ballot. We're making a statement where we're using one of the most powerful tools we have our voice to better the life of our children. Education is on the line. I think back to previous elections where things like healthcare protections were on the line and how that impacted my family. It's easy to feel that our singular vote does not make a difference, but collectively our voices are powerful. So you better vote.
00:02:20
Speaker
Voting is one of the ways we have a say in our future to show up for our children, ourselves, and our community.

Key Ballot Issues: Healthcare and Education

00:02:30
Speaker
Now, we know there are several issues on the ballot this year. And one thing is for sure, so well. And our leaders, we stand behind what is right, what is equitable, and what is fair.
00:02:49
Speaker
There are several key issues on the ballot that directly impact our lives as black and brown mothers. One of the biggest hurdles is that black mortality rate is severely high and policies that support better healthcare care can change outcomes for so many families. And when it comes to education, we know that equitable will access to quality education that includes All of the history is still a battle, one that could be decided by this election. We know that families look different. We're all shapes and sizes, sexualities, genders. That is on the line.

Protecting Mental Health Resources

00:03:36
Speaker
It's also about protecting funding for mental health resources, which I am so passionate about.
00:03:43
Speaker
Black communities are often last in line when it comes to funding mental health programs. And this isn't just a political issue. This is a personal issue. It's a personal issue and that is why so well exists. This election and who we elect this season will help to shape what happens in the course of our history.
00:04:09
Speaker
This is about the mental wellbeing of our families and ourselves. So go vote.

Representation and Legacy of Black Voters

00:04:18
Speaker
Representation matters so much to me. When I look at my little black daughter and I can tell her, you can be the president of the United States one day. I believe that wholeheartedly when I say it, but now representation is there.
00:04:34
Speaker
When Black and Brown women step up and use their power to vote, we're honoring the legacy of those who came before us, for the women who were not allowed to vote, for the Black and Brown families who had to pay to vote. We're carrying forward a resilience, a resilience that says, I belong, my children belong, and our voices matter.
00:04:57
Speaker
So go vote. Seeing people in office who understand and reflect our experiences gives me a sense of hope and possibility that change is not just something we talk about. It's something that we can see. I am pushing for you to vote.
00:05:18
Speaker
We as women have always been the backbone of political change and our voices matter now more than ever and they are needed. So go vote.

The Power and Legacy of Voting

00:05:29
Speaker
So as we wrap up this episode, I wanna encourage you, each and every one of you that is listening to make your voices heard.
00:05:37

00:05:59
Speaker
