Introduction and Hosts' Welcomes
00:00:09
Speaker
We're gonna play a little game we call Fill the Tea.
00:00:15
Speaker
Welcome back to thrills chills and spills where we spill the tea on all themes theme park special events and especially spooky season. Happy belated Thanksgiving everybody. It's that time of the year we're past spooky season and into the holiday season with Thanksgiving Christmas on the way and on today's episode we're going to talk about Thanksgiving since we all just have been through that um and we also have a special guest stay tuned.
00:00:39
Speaker
But first as as always I'm Joey. I'm Kelly. I'm Tyler. And I'm Rafa.
Rafa's Warped Tour Experience
00:00:45
Speaker
And here are our spills, starting with Rafa.
00:00:50
Speaker
Oh, you want me to go first? Okay. All right. So um a few weeks ago, I went to Warped Tour um here in Orlando, which was an awesome time. I loved it. We we got tickets for next year already, so we we obviously loved it. um But I have one little complaint. I'm not trying to be a party pooper like I was with... the beach balls and the sound stages in HHN.
00:01:15
Speaker
But I kind of feel like with Warped Tour having their 30th anniversary, I thought that we all would have been a little more considerate of the fact that we have all aged a little bit since Warped Tour took place before.
00:01:29
Speaker
And why am i carrying people that are like, Twice my size. Because they're crowd surfing. Like I'm not trying to be a hater. I'm not trying to take away the fun from anybody. i will take i'll partake. And I will help these people get through.
00:01:43
Speaker
But you have plenty of women. Standing around that are like. Tiny, so tiny. They can't even reach you. And then you get somebody just launched over to you and then they just fall right over the people. And it's just, it's pure insanity. And don't get me wrong. I i know. i know it's part of the vibes. That's Warped Tour. That's what it is. But I'm just like, man, like, come on. We're all like 30 plus at this point. Why are we like, like trampling like women that are like half our sizes?
00:02:13
Speaker
i just think I just think it's insane. I think it's insane. It kind of gives me... Like, I mean, I don't say this often, but it kind of gave me the ick. um I feel like this is equivalent to like, like guys wanting to dance on bars, like at the clubs and stuff
Kelly's Sick Season
00:02:31
Speaker
like that. Like, why are we doing that? Like, why are we trying to be like the center of attention right now in that sense? Like, it's kind of weird, but I don't know. All in all, I mean, it was a great experience. Loved Warped Tour, but I don't know, the crowd surfing, like, why are we not conscious of like,
00:02:46
Speaker
us being big dudes like why are we doing this so and another extension of our getting old spill yeah and we're i feel like we're always gonna have a spill that has to do with our age but maybe but so yeah no it was but like i said it was a great time but i'm just wondering like why are we doing that man like why are we like 200 plus pounds and we're like trampling women that are like way less than that like what's happening it's It's just crazy to me. i don't know. It was just, it was a fun and interesting experience.
00:03:18
Speaker
It sounds like you just have an aversion to things being passed over top of a crowd. Like, yeah, maybe, maybe. maybe it's be I promise I have no past trauma when it comes to that, but I don't know. I mean,
00:03:31
Speaker
yeah Yeah, I guess. I prefer the beach balls, though. Because no touching, and you have to touch these people if they crowd surf over you. So that's a big
Theme Parks Winter Changes
00:03:39
Speaker
no. Disgusting. yeah Yeah. I just feel like, how do you have, like, like i I strive to have that carelessness. Like, I don't know. I feel like I would be kind of germaphobic and be like, oh, all these hands are touching me while I'm, like, going down here. And there's no guarantee that I'll make it all the way through. There were plenty of people that fell, like, right next to us. And we're like, oh, well, that sucks for you. Serves them right.
00:04:03
Speaker
It gives me the ick too, Rafa. What was that? It said it gives me the ick too. Well, speaking of the ick, Kelly. ah Yeah, so I'm pretty much over sixth season and it still has a very long way to go For me, it's year round, to be honest, but really bad right now. I work in sixth season. I live in sixth season. i just like i just can't escape the germs. like In the past six weeks in my house, aside from normal colds, we've had hand, foot, mouth.
00:04:34
Speaker
We've had the flu. We've had the stomach bug. And I'm not wearing gloves and a mask in this house, so I'm getting it all. You know, yeah I just would like, I would like a reprieve from the illnesses.
00:04:51
Speaker
Doesn't Kahn have a song about this called six season. I don't know. It's six season.
00:05:02
Speaker
Sorry. That was so dumb.
00:05:07
Speaker
Well, Get your flu shots, people. The flu is here. Yeah. Influenza A. Yeah. Drink vitamin C stuff or whatever. yeah Okay. um Mine this week just has to do with Six Flags because, again, because um Six Flags Over Georgia closed this past weekend. We used to have a holiday in a park event.
00:05:28
Speaker
Now we don't. Multiple parks are affected by this, which is frustrating. And because, honestly, it was a nice time of year to go and it was kind of empty and easy to...
00:05:39
Speaker
walk through the park and just have a good time and get out of the house during the cold season. But um alas, it's six flag parks now. So like things are things are happening there um at Kings Dominion, too. Right. They cut Winterfest.
00:05:54
Speaker
Yep, they count Winterfest. Last day was Sunday. i was thinking of going up there, but it was like cold and rainy. and Yeah, it was here too. They closed the park on the last day at 2 p.m. after it opened at 11. That's the worst. rough Rough last weekend, it seems like. um Rough season. I'm guessing it wasn't very crowded. Yeah.
00:06:16
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So for all of you who still have winter events at your parks, um enjoy it. Hopefully it continues to last. Because we're jealous. Right. Thank God, Hershey, because I lost everything else around here. Right. Yeah. well yeah All right. So Tyler, your spill.
Stranger Things Holiday Release
00:06:37
Speaker
Yeah, Netflix is doing this thing, or I guess they've done it for a while, but I don't watch a ton of Netflix. But anyway, Stranger Things specifically, they released the first four episodes on Thanksgiving Day, which who is watching on Thanksgiving Day? Like I'm with family and stuff. I was out of town. OK, Rafa watched, but I was out of town. I couldn't watch. So I was trying to avoid spoilers for like three or four days before I could come back and watch.
00:07:03
Speaker
So I watched the first four episodes. The last three are released on Christmas Day. And then the last one on, forget if it's New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. They're all holidays. like Maybe a lot of people have a lot of free time, but I definitely do not.
00:07:19
Speaker
and my family respect you Maybe they are looking for you to watch with your family. Yeah. My family doesn't care about that. And they talk too much. So I'm not going to be able to focus if I try to watch it myself.
00:07:33
Speaker
the commentary to defend Netflix though but I I feel like they've always at least with Stranger Things they've always gone for like the holiday route so I remember there was a season that they started in like 4th of July i think I think there was a Halloween one too so I think it's just to stay on theme with that um but I still hate like I think what pisses me off more is just the new format of releasing them like spread out like I hate that we're getting four episodes and then three or four episodes and then the finale like like that that's not what like streaming services were about before and now it's becoming very cable like like why are we doing this like it makes no sense they might as well just go full circle and just do one per week at this point yeah yeah i mean most streaming services are already doing that like um like hbo max is doing that yeah um and stuff like that so um they might as well just do that at this point i we've basically just gone full circle and we're back to cable with extra steps now
00:08:28
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. And more money. Yeah, more money. ah Maybe more on that later, though. Specifically on Stranger Things. Yes.
Meet Meg: The Theme Park Enthusiast
00:08:40
Speaker
Did you watch it, Joey? I have. Yep. We've all seen it. So if you don't want to hear about it, too bad. Yeah. Spoiler alerts for later. And with that, we're going to bring in our guest.
00:08:58
Speaker
And joining us is... It's Meg.
00:09:04
Speaker
Welcome to Thrills, Chills, and Spills, Meg. Thanks. Literally a wicked intro. Happy to be back. Amazing. So we do a little segment with each of our guests that's joining. um And we have our lightning round questions. But before we get to that, and this is a question that I don't know, I 100% know the answer to.
00:09:25
Speaker
When and why did you become a theme park and roller coaster enthusiast? Now, I know that the second part of that question is maybe debatable whether or not you consider yourself a roller coaster enthusiast. But at the very least, like, when did you become like more involved in that world?
00:09:42
Speaker
um When I met my husband, for anyone that doesn't know who I'm married to, I'm married to Mark of the Drunk Riders podcast. My son thinks that's very funny. I have a baby with me, so if you hear baby sounds, it's our child. um Yeah, when I met Mark, I actually did not know that um coaster enthusiasts were even a thing until I... Well, no, I did, because I knew Marcus before Mark, but I didn't like really get into it until Mark and I got together.
00:10:11
Speaker
Um, and so that was in 20, I was in the
00:10:17
Speaker
2016 because Mark and I are coming up on 10 years together this month. Wow. who It's been a minute then. Oh, hot. But I didn't start doing coasters. Like our first, our first like date where we actually like left his house and did things.
00:10:31
Speaker
um We went to Cedar Point. So that was May of, it was opening day of 2016, I believe. um I had a double ear infection. So I ended up puking after I rode Gatekeeper. um fine Was it Gatekeeper or Val Raven? I can't remember. um But yeah, i had a double middle ear infection. So my balance was very, you know, but I was like, hey, I like this dude and I want him to think I'm cool. So I'm going to get on roller coasters. And we rode, I think it was a gate a Gatekeeper.
00:11:05
Speaker
um We were Gatekeeper and I sprinted off the station to bathroom so I could throw up and then uh he took me to starbucks and we just kind of hung out at starbucks for a little bit and then vibed in his car um i was gonna say did you ask for and then after that i just started coming to events with him i was gonna say like did he did he tell you to just like puke and rally and you kept going or no no okay i honestly might have but he was like no it's fine yeah so um But yeah, and then I didn't really have a lot to do with um everything until my honeymoon, our honeymoon, because the end of our honeymoon was Veloci stumble. So I didn't really have a choice.
00:11:56
Speaker
um And then i didn't do anything until Hollywood Nights. And then after Hollywood Nights, I was like, all right, baby, I'm all in. Yep. And here we are. Hell yeah. Here we are. Amazing.
00:12:10
Speaker
All right. It's time for the lightning round. Let's go. Quick answers. Let's go. Cred count. No idea. stopped counting. Chocking. but I stopped counting. Favorite coaster.
00:12:25
Speaker
Steel Vengeance. Favorite theme park. Dollywood. Next park visit planned. Well, no, we're not going to a park, are we? That's just a random Adventure Dome in Vegas?
00:12:36
Speaker
ah Okay, yeah, maybe that. And if not that, um whatever the next one is, Dollywood? Yeah. Okay. Oh, is that not public yet? It is. No, it is. That would really awkward. It would have been, like, more editing for Joey. Oh, my gosh. Dollywood is my favorite park. Okay. ah Wood or steel coasters?
00:12:59
Speaker
Wood every day. All day, every day. Okay, so this is a podcast specific question. yeah because it's thrills, chills and spills. Would you always skip over spooky season?
00:13:10
Speaker
Or you can only ride coasters built in 2000 and earlier? Those ones are not as good is kind of the point of the question. Okay, so are you asking me if I would rather skip spooky season or only ride those coasters? Only ride like older roller coasters. Yeah, so the two choices are you can skip spooky season and ride any cold coaster you want or you get spooky season but you can only ride old crappy coasters.
00:13:39
Speaker
I mean, i like spooky season and the old crappy coasters tend to be like the ones that I like. So I'm going to go with that one. where I get where I get both I have my cake and eat it too yeah yeah I think you're in the majority on that question so far yeah but I also don't like to speak to my non-enthusiastness I don't know what roller coasters we would even be talking about so you could name them and I'd be like yeah ah f that ah all right your number one hobby outside of coasters reading love that go-to drink
00:14:16
Speaker
As I'm drinking it, it's a Pepper. If it needs to be alcoholic, Dr. Pepper and Amaretto or rum or any other sweet kind of alcohol. Yeah, literally drinking Dr. Pepper while I ask the question. Or a Dirty Shirley. I love a Dirty Shirley.
00:14:33
Speaker
Okay. Best pizza topping? Extra cheese because I'm a child. I love cheese. Bucket list travel destination?
00:14:45
Speaker
ah Spain. and It's been on my list forever. We were supposed to for our honeymoon. And then we couldn't because of COVID. So, oh darn, we had to go to Hawaii. Oh darn. Oh darn. You'll make it there someday. at this point, honestly, my dream travel destination is just Europe because I've had three different trips ruined for me. so sorry, Maggie. You're definitely going to make it. You're going to make it. ah Your go-to karaoke song.
00:15:12
Speaker
ah You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette. Oh, yes. Every time. Every time. um If it's not that, it's Silver Springs. And I pick one person who's watching that I can stare at the way that Stevie stares at Lindsay when she sings that song.
00:15:26
Speaker
All right. Last one. a roller coaster hot take, or it could just be a theme park hot take. Oh, God. I don't know.
00:15:37
Speaker
All my takes are hot. You guys have heard some of them. Marks, what's ah what's a coaster hot take that I have? You got a lot of um i hate top thrill i haven't ridden top thrill 2 hated the original and i probably will never ride top thrill 2. that's what that is a hot take and that's called yeah yeah i hated top thrill i only rode it once before it closed um and it was just like a few years ago what ride did you say mid that one at freaking in new england that you had in your top superman
00:16:07
Speaker
That wasn't even a good ride. That's not a hot take. Mark has a hot take. Hey, Mark. They said that's that the hot take is that you think it's good.
00:16:19
Speaker
He's upset. It's fine. ah Italian man hands. Y'all need to leave some space on your lap bar and ride in the front row. and open mark Okay, Mark. Go do your own podcast.
00:16:33
Speaker
ah Literally. Tomorrow.
00:16:38
Speaker
hey Well, thanks for answering our questions. Now everybody knows exactly who you are. It's amazing. Yes. um Those really sum me up. Dr. Pepper. That's all we need to know. Yep. And Alanis Morissette.
00:16:52
Speaker
Honestly, accurate.
Thanksgiving Traditions and Foods
00:16:55
Speaker
So this episode, um because Thanksgiving was this past weekend, we are going to talk about Thanksgiving. um And to start out, we did have a kind of theme park adjacent question. So I figured we'd start there before just kind of delving into the holiday.
00:17:08
Speaker
um Poke asked, What is the best Thanksgiving themed ride? And why is it gobbler getaway? um i i almost am going disagree and say it's um good gravy. gravy. Yeah, I've never even written good gravy. And I would say it's good gravy. What is Gobbler Getaway?
00:17:26
Speaker
It's like the spinning turkey. but yeah Actually, no, I think I like Gobbler Getaway a little bit more. Good gravy makes me a little sick when it goes backwards. But the spinning doesn't... I don't spin. I don't like spinning. doesn't spin that much, though. I mean, I don't remember it spinning that much.
00:17:40
Speaker
Good gravy for the queue alone. Yeah. yeah I guess overall attraction, i would I would give it to good gravy. yeah Yeah. That I have not ridden that coaster. That is my...
00:17:52
Speaker
Next year. i know. wait and Can we count the voyage as a Thanksgiving ride? I mean, it's kind of like, yeah, it is. And it's in the Thanksgiving section.
00:18:04
Speaker
Is it the best Thanksgiving themed ride? No. Yeah, no. I don't think Because technically it's not themed to Thanksgiving. I mean, it's in the Thanksgiving section, but technically it's to the Mayflower. I guess it's how you interpret this question, though. Is it what is the best ride themed to Thanksgiving or what is the best Thanksgiving theming on a ride?
00:18:25
Speaker
That's true. It's the best ride themed to Thanksgiving, but it's not the best theming on ride. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. But all of these answers are at Holiday World because we don't know anywhere else where there's Thanksgiving rides. Exactly. That whole section. We answered it both ways.
00:18:41
Speaker
Exactly. We killed it. All right. So next, we just kind of wanted to talk about um Thanksgiving traditions. Like, is there anything unique that your family does for the holiday? I'll answer it really quick. No, not for Thanksgiving. We don't have anything that we do. oh Yeah. Yeah.
00:19:02
Speaker
We used to do some pretty cool stuff. Like when I was a kid, um we would get together with my dad's side of the family. um We would all eat at a super long table, which was a bunch of tables like lined up in my grandparents' house. They lived up on an apple orchard and had like a very like rustic woodsy house that they built up there. it was really cool. i love It was like an hour away from here.
00:19:26
Speaker
and we my grandmother was, um, super artistic and like she was an artist, but she always had like some sort of artistic creative thing going on with the holidays. So like every year we would have some sort of project. so like one year it was to make like our own version of like the Dunker's funniest home videos.
00:19:52
Speaker
And like these things still exist somewhere. Like we would go around and like do little skits and film them. or like one year, this was after, it was more Halloween themed, but we had a we had a full production of a like haunted wedding where like my cousin and her fiance like fake got married and we were all, I was like the flower girl on this haunted wedding, but we were all like,
00:20:18
Speaker
dead. was wild. I was like seven years old I have very vivid memories of this. This probably why am the way I am. was going to say that it all makes so much sense. This is the origin story right now. Yeah. Yeah.
00:20:30
Speaker
yeah um Yeah. But she always had these like wild ideas um and they would always like come to fruition during Thanksgiving because that's when we were mostly all together. I feel like Christmas people were like coming and going a little bit more, but Thanksgiving we were all together at the same time.
00:20:46
Speaker
As we got older, my grandparents moved. So we didn't have Thanksgiving like that anymore because they moved into like a small house and they passed away now. So we don't even get together as a family, which is kind of depressing. But um we do like a small thing with just my immediate family and the kids every year now. But maybe I'll try to incorporate something like unique into our Thanksgiving day. We also used to pick out of a stocking who we would exchange our Christmas gifts with. We did do that.
00:21:15
Speaker
We at Thanksgiving always found out because we had so many family members that like the kids always got gifts, but like as you got older, you would just pick another adult out of the stocking and then that would be who you get a gift for.
00:21:28
Speaker
I've weirdly never heard of that, but that sounds really smart. Really? We did that because we have a huge family too. Like my mom has 10 siblings. Yeah, we've done that before too. Yeah. It's nice.
00:21:39
Speaker
and I'm trying to find, so you did trigger a memory in me, Kelly. um When I was like young, young, we used to go to my grandparents' house and just said my mom has 10 siblings. um So we have a gigantic family. And so I have a ton of cousins. Like I have 16 first cousins just on my mom's side.
00:21:56
Speaker
And um we used to put on like these little skits and I actually found a picture like a few years ago of me and what I think is supposed to be a pilgrim outfit that I'm going to send to you guys once I find it. But yeah, you'll see it eventually.
00:22:14
Speaker
All these productions, very interesting. Oh, yeah. I don't really have one in particular that's coming to mind except that I don't know why. Like we've changed some things over the years about like what's on the table at Thanksgiving with my family. But the one thing that I can never like remember not being there is Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. That's our tradition. Fire. they do ah So there you go. proper evidence I'm looking for evidence of my story as well. My aunt has pictures of everything on Facebook, like old stuff. So I'll scroll while we're going.
00:22:50
Speaker
Wait, can I put y'all onto something with Pillsbury Crescent Rolls really quick? Yes. If you want easy deep fried Oreos, you wrap Oreos in Pillsbury Crescent Roll butugh dough and put them in the air fryer and dust some powdered sugar on them.
00:23:03
Speaker
Amazing. Oh my Amazing. That sounds so good. So good. Okay, I'm just going to throw it out there now. We're doing all the Pillsbury recipes. So the other thing that we did with that dough is we put it in muffin cups and then put like brie and different jams in it. I do that every year. That's so good.
00:23:22
Speaker
And I make it like I change up the fillings for different seasons. So like in the summer, I'll do like peach and strawberry. And then in the like fall, I do orange and like cranberry. It's so easy.
00:23:33
Speaker
So good. Yep. Okay, you guys, I didn't find evidence, but I did find this picture of my parents and me as a very fat baby on her face. Aww. Look at Chris's stash, I love. Oh,
00:23:52
Speaker
Yeah, we don't really have anything specific. We did go down to the beach this year for Thanksgiving, which is nice. We've done that a couple times before, but it's not an every year thing, but I certainly would not mind making that a tradition.
00:24:06
Speaker
Yeah, that's kind of what um a question that Ryan M asked was, is there any new family tradition you'd like to start in the future related to Thanksgiving? Mine would be to have mac and cheese as a recurring theme because we don't have that every year and I would like to. I'm sorry for your family.
00:24:26
Speaker
I would like to take away all of the phones from the Facebook moms in my family because they love to get pictures us like mid like meal. And then they'll post all of it. It's like they don't look through the photos before they're posting on Facebook. No, never. Just selecting every photo from the evening and just post. have like five chins. And I'm like, no. My mom picks it with her iPad.
00:24:50
Speaker
She doesn't even use her phone. That is so that generation. Oh my God. Truly. That's very Facebook. That makes me, that gives me like a physical ick. The idea of someone taking a photo with an iPad like makes me like, just a little bit. like oh But I'm sure your mom is a lovely human, Tyler. Exactly. He is, but I agree with you. that is That's hilarious to like start basically like lock the phones away, but for the boomers, not for the kids. For the boomers, they get the worst photos, man.
00:25:27
Speaker
I love that. like I'm way bigger on Friendsgivings than I am like actual family Thanksgiving. So we before the club started, um a bunch of us that did coaster stuff together used to go to Dollywood every year for Friendsgiving.
00:25:44
Speaker
peak. It was great because the Christmas stuff was already out. We would get a cabin. We would do like a potluck thing. It was awesome. um And we've been doing one with some of my best friends for a few years up here. And it's on Saturday this year. um I'm way more about like the Friendsgiving than like the the Thanksgiving thing.
00:26:05
Speaker
But yeah, that's as long as we stick with that. Like that's a tradition that I would like to stick with is just celebrating like chosen family. Yeah. Love that.
00:26:17
Speaker
Anything else about Thanksgiving that we're thinking about?
00:26:22
Speaker
What do we think about turkey trots on Thanksgiving? Turkey was. never done one. Turkey trots? Yeah. thought Oh, a turkey trot. I thought you said a turkey.
00:26:34
Speaker
First, i thought you said shot. And I was like, like a like what are we shooting? The turkey? We're taking shots. like right that's and that's um um I know there are runners on here, so I'm going to hold back my thoughts on turkey trots.
00:26:55
Speaker
Tell us. I hate them. I think they're stupid. I think they're designed to make people feel bad about themselves. And and like I think they're built to give people an incentive to feel bad about themselves and to justify it to justify eating. like i think the reason turkey trots were created is because people felt bad about like eating. and so they had to find some way to offset that.
00:27:22
Speaker
they're not wrong. why For yeah people that like to run, I love that for them. Personally, i would rather shoot myself in the foot than do a turkey try. Are they normally the day after Thanksgiving? Is that?
00:27:37
Speaker
So many are the day of. Yeah. I think it's the day of. My local turkey trot is always the Saturday after, which I like. Interesting. that That makes a little more sense I don't hate that because that that that like kind of separates it. Like it doesn't make it. But I've just seen so much marketing around turkey trots that like is basically based around like run off the calories you're about to eat or like run off the calories that you did eat. And i just don't like that.
00:28:02
Speaker
Yeah, ours has a costume contest for both animals and the runners. That is Thanksgiving or Christmas themed. It's really cute. And it's historic. The race has been going on for like a really long time.
00:28:18
Speaker
Downtown Bethlehem is like, that's that's where it is near me. And it's been going, it's like one of the oldest races in the area. So it's kind of cute. Nice. Would you say that um in Bethlehem it's been going on since BC or AD? Yeah. Yeah.
00:28:33
Speaker
so We also have a Nazareth nearby. It's very biblical around here. Oh yeah. Good old Pennsylvania. Oh yeah.
00:28:44
Speaker
Amazing. Any other thoughts on Thanksgiving?
00:28:49
Speaker
Before we head into our next thing. All right. So this is going to potentially get contentious. But we're going to attempt to come up with consensus or at least majority rules.
00:29:03
Speaker
Tier maker ranked a list of Thanksgiving foods.
Thanksgiving Food Tier Ranking
00:29:07
Speaker
There will a consensus because there's an odd number of us. So someone will sway the vote. wo yeah beg It's not possible to have it split even. So we'll see how this goes. Also like Just for everyone's awareness here, i am the pickiest eater on the planet. So I'm about and want to make some people angry.
00:29:30
Speaker
that being said part of the reason that I wanted you here is because like you love baking stuff. I do. I do love to bake. We need to talk about pies when this is over. Because not all of the pies are on this list.
00:29:43
Speaker
right So we need to have additional pie discussion. Absolutely. yeah Speaking of pie, how did it was maple? How did that turn out? Salted maple pie. um I've actually made it before. This was the second time that I made it. This was just the first time Milo helped me. um It's delicious. It honestly tastes like if you just made a pancake, a pie. um It's super good. really is just...
00:30:06
Speaker
it really is just It's super easy. It's maple syrup, cornmeal, flour, like just super easy stuff. um But it's really good. I've taken it into work and people love it. And I might make it again on Saturday.
00:30:19
Speaker
Fun. I might need that recipe. It sounds good. It's super easy. It's like, um yeah, but it literally just tastes like a big pancake. The only thing I changed from the original recipe if anyone is familiar with my baking, I refuse to do regular pie crusts. I'm a cookie crust, B-I-T-C-H until I die. um And so I did a graham cracker crust on it. um I think in the future I might do the cinnamon graham crackers. just to Yeah, got a little bit, but it was good.
00:30:51
Speaker
Awesome. so you't do All right. I'm going to read through the categories that we're working with here because we have a little bit more clarity on the on the different rankings. So S tier, which is elite. That means definitely getting seconds.
00:31:05
Speaker
We have A, which is great. And you're going put a big portion of that on your plate. B is good. Tasty, but not a priority. It's not at the top. C is okay. I'll put a little bit of that on my plate.
00:31:19
Speaker
D is neutral. It's like, eh, it's there. Like, don't really care. e is actively dislike, not taking any. And F is nasty. Put it in the trash.
00:31:33
Speaker
And I have some things that I think are nasty. So get ready. Same, same, same. Okay. Are we ready? Let's do it. We'll share this, um like our actual tier list that we agree upon afterwards because I'm going to make it actively while we but we do it. So the first one, we're starting off strong with a pie and it is apple pie. Elite.
00:32:00
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I was going to say A, but okay. Yeah, i can I can go with that. I will say store-bought is an A. most of the time unless it's like a dedicated bakery but if you make your own or if like you get it from a place that knows what they're doing then and so the ones i make i mean i was gonna say side tangent who makes the best apple pie you've had me
00:32:29
Speaker
make all the best pies i've had too so It's these specific recipes. I have two different recipes. One is like more of a traditional, like with the nutmeg and the cinnamon and stuff. The other one called fish market. And it's almost like a custardy interior with raisins in it.
00:32:44
Speaker
I don't know why, but that one is also so delicious. Interesting. I feel like also amongst the Thanksgiving pies or amongst any pies, apple is pretty close to the top for me.
00:32:57
Speaker
hmm. It is for me i think it I think we can... I'm good with S. Is everybody good with S? Yeah, S is good. I'm good with that. Okay. Up next, we have asparagus, which I have never had at Thanksgiving.
00:33:13
Speaker
Really? Okay. I have before. Okay. This is like a B for me. Okay. i have a question. i have a question while we're talking about asparagus. Are we ranking these foods...
00:33:25
Speaker
just generally or as a thanksgiving food yeah that's what i was gonna ask i think as a thanksgiving food oh okay well like i don't hate asparagus but like i don't have it i don't need it on thanksgiving i need it when i have seafood yeah that's fair i mean this is thanksgiving list like i'd be fine putting it it down at sea because it's thanksgiving
00:33:50
Speaker
I'm trying to think if it was there at my Thanksgiving, I'd probably get a little bit. So I'm okay with a C. Yeah. C sounds good. i was going to say E. Tyler wants to put it far away. I can tell by his face. Wait, you want to put it where? i would put it in E. Dislike. Yeah. I'm not getting any asparagus for Thanksgiving.
00:34:11
Speaker
I'm not getting any asparagus ever. and I didn't share my opinion because you guys had already put it there. And so my opinion didn't matter. I hate yes it. does matter oh we won I
00:34:25
Speaker
i lo he knew that and i was wondering yeah' silent we share girl that's why you're here majority rules so like at that point y'all were like yeah yeah but if we're all saying s and you're saying e we would move it down to a i feel no that's not a yeah how we a original yeah this is an average i can move it down i'm moving it i moved it to a i moved it today it's it's an i'm actively going to ruin this list that's fine is there a limit to each tier
00:34:57
Speaker
No, no. well limit it does not exist strong I feel like if Meg and Tyler both don't want any asparagus, we have to put it at D. I think it's D and I'm fine with that.
00:35:07
Speaker
Yeah, I'm cool with wow I have such power here. Yes, everyone has power. Okay, are we ready? Next is baked potatoes. I do not have them baked personally. i have them mashed only on Thanksgiving. yeah Same. But like I wouldn't say no to a baked potato on Thanksgiving. Never. Agree.
00:35:28
Speaker
Yeah. I'm going to put it in But doesn't seem like it goes with the other Thanksgiving foods. It doesn't. I'm never going say no. Yeah, I'm good in the B or C range for that. I'm going to see. I'm going to see.
00:35:43
Speaker
Okay, so wait. We have Joey and Rafa, you're B, right? B. What are you, Tyler? I'm also C. And I'm good with Okay, so then it's B, I guess.
00:35:58
Speaker
and Sure. Okay. Next is banana pudding. Who's eating banana pudding? yeah That's an E for me.
00:36:10
Speaker
Not my favorite thing. no I like it, but I'm not having it for Thanksgiving. Oh, my family has it for Thanksgiving. Really? Yeah. That's so Southern. Oh my God. Trax. Yeah.
00:36:24
Speaker
Although I don't have it because I'm allergic to it. so Wait, Tyler, is that, tell me about the pies you have for Thanksgiving though. Like what are your usual Thanksgiving pies? i i mean Normally like pumpkin, sweet potato, apple, and then we'll have banana pudding.
00:36:44
Speaker
Sometimes there's like a chocolate fudge or something along those lines. Oh my gosh, y'all go hard on the dessert. I find it interesting when people do pumpkin and sweet potato because that's usually competition. It's either or, right? They're very similar.
00:36:57
Speaker
Okay. They taste very similar. I really can't taste much of a difference, but my grandma like swears that they're completely separate things. So we have both. So would my dad's family and they are hillbilly stock. So I think that sweet potato versus pumpkin is like a Southern thing. Yeah. but Yeah. It's so funny because we don't go on we don't go hard on pies at all. like We get either pumpkin or sweet potato. And then we normally have a flan or we have tres leches.
00:37:27
Speaker
Like that's what we have like for- That was good. Yum. Yum, yum. should be on the list. My father talked about flan the other day and he's like, yeah, I had this stuff. He'd never had it before. Bless him. He goes, I had this stuff and get her my mom was like, yeah, and ask your dad what he had for dessert. And my dad goes, Flayne? Flayne? was like, oh no oh, dear Papa, it is fun. The other thing I wanted to tell you.
00:37:58
Speaker
One day i need you to try my tres leches because yes i literally won awards for it and in high school. it was the only We had food days in Spanish and my tres leches cake was the only food my Spanish teacher would touch.
00:38:11
Speaker
like He would not eat anything except my tres leches cake. It's like my favorite dessert. So yes, I need to try it. Okay. All right. Noted. Mark's only had it once because I never make it anymore because I don't like it. I don't like the texture because it's okay i could see that it's too M-word for me or too soggy. um i actually like that word i don't mind i don't have a problem with it but i didn't know if y'all did so moist yeah it might be some some listeners might have the ick with m-word um banana pudding though back to that banana pudding is an e it's e e well no i would put it at c
00:38:53
Speaker
Wait, but are we talking Thanksgiving or in general? Well, I mean, regardless, I'm putting it. If it was at your Thanksgiving. At Thanksgiving. Yeah. Wait, no, what's E again? Dislike. It's nasty. I just don't like You're not having any. I would i would go with c Try a little bit.
00:39:08
Speaker
I'm going F, but... Bringing it down. Allergic. Yeah. Allergy. You're allergic. You can not count mine if you want. Are we still on banana pudding?
00:39:21
Speaker
Yeah. Which one? Yeah. I think the E one, the one that means I don't want it. Yep. Okay. So I think it's going to D. D is the average. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Next we have biscuits.
00:39:38
Speaker
This is so dependent on yeah many factors. Biscuits are so variable. I'm really struggling. I have a quick question for you guys. Go ahead, Tyler. Cover Thanksgiving first. And then I have a question.
00:39:49
Speaker
I was just going to say, I think for Thanksgiving, I'd rather have a roll, even though I love biscuits. Same. Yeah. Same. Okay, Tyler, i'm I obviously want to hear the rest of your opinions, but Tyler, I'm specifically interested in your opinion on this. Biscuits or cornbread?
00:40:05
Speaker
Biscuits. You're wrong. I'm sorry. no There are very few cornbreads I've had that are not super dry. Yeah. yeah chris They get stuck in my throat every time and I'll drink water. I'll drink a whole bottle of water and that bitch is still in there. A good moist cornbread is good, but 90% of the time I'm picking a biscuit. so for Okay, we're going to get it there. Are we?
00:40:30
Speaker
yeah I don't think cornbread's on here, is it? Yeah, it is. they ok But when we stay in a place that has like an oven or a stove, i will make you all skillet cornbread and I will change your mind. I believe you. I believe your cornbread is good.
00:40:45
Speaker
but the cornbread is fire. But I also appreciate a good sweet cornbread. um But no, I asked Tyler because my really good friend and I, who her family is from West Virginia. ah She and I have this debate constantly because she is a biscuit person.
00:40:59
Speaker
And here is my argument. for a biscuit to be good, it takes a it takes a really, really good biscuit to not have to put anything on it. Cornbread is made to not put anything on.
00:41:11
Speaker
That's true. And if you have to put something on your cornbread, then it's really bad cornbread, but you're expected to put something on your biscuit. yeah I think the amount of- I've got to put butter on cornbread. I cannot eat plain cornbread. Really? Oh, i have to. That depends. That means you are eating dry cornbread because if you have to have butter on your cornbread, then it's way too dry. Right.
00:41:31
Speaker
hu Interesting. Okay. I think the quantity of bad cornbread is high. Yeah, the quantity of but of bad cornbread probably is high. But all this to say, cornbread at Thanksgiving, no, we're not doing cornbread biscuits at Thanksgiving. this I'm going to eat it. It's bread. So whatever the I'm going to eat it but not like be excited about it. That's the that's the tier. B or C. Yeah. I would say C for me.
00:41:54
Speaker
Yeah. I'm okay with that as a bread. Nobody's walking in and be like, yes, biscuits. Right. Right. I'm okay with it being D even like i'm neutral about it.
00:42:06
Speaker
Okay, we're going to vote real quick. C or D? C. C. Okay. Do we want to do cornbread while we're already... Yes, we should. that A, S, S. D. D. Ooh, I was going to say Now y'all are messing up my list.
00:42:27
Speaker
I'm going to say C. Joey, I can't believe you. Two Ds, a C, an S. Rafa, what do you say? I said A. Thank you, Rafa. Two Ds. I think that averages to what,
00:42:38
Speaker
yeah Yeah, I think a B or C, yeah. Okay, let's vote B or C. B. C. I'll go with Three Cs, two Bs. Yeah, C. All right, it's a C.
00:42:53
Speaker
Which is not to reflect on the quality of Meg's cornbread, which is probably an- Yes, we know that anything Meg made is higher. Dolly Parton's recipe, so you know that ish is good.
00:43:04
Speaker
All right, next up we have Brussels sprouts. F. F. I knew you were going to say that. I was having Brussels sprouts at Thanksgiving. and I have before. I've had Brussels sprouts. I do.
00:43:17
Speaker
Our family does pretty routinely. It's a C for me. Yeah, I'll go with the C, see yeah. F, which means it's a D. F. It's going to D. All right.
00:43:31
Speaker
All right, next up. We have candied yams. What is a candied yam? Like, what do they do to it? Do they just, like, caramelize yam? So yams and sweet potatoes are the same thing. so So are they just caramelizing? It's sweet potatoes where you put brown sugar and butter on them. Yes. Okay, gotcha. They are so good.
00:43:50
Speaker
I'm going. That's going be... That's going be an A for me. S.
00:43:56
Speaker
Go ahead, Rafa. Rafa hates it. He doesn't it. I don't. i I go with C. I'll try it. Okay. I'm going to put it on a solid D, y'all. Okay, so i think its I think it's a B. Probably a B. Because you guys put it out S tier, right?
00:44:15
Speaker
I did. They're so good. You both said a right? Yeah. Okay. We'll go with B. That's a C. If I had to bring cornbread down to a sea y'all have to bring your stupid... No, Meg. Okay. B or C. B or C for the candy DMs. Go.
00:44:34
Speaker
C. Meg, you didn't know what it was. You can't rate it that poorly. B. Three Bs. Three Bs. Three Bs. Okay, so it's B. It's B. Okay. Next up. I knew this episode was going to be chaotic.
00:44:47
Speaker
Cheesy broccoli casserole. Which I don't ah eat at Thanksgiving, but it sounds delicious. I don't eat broccoli, so that's a no for me. D. D. Yeah, I'll go. i'll I'm going to go C. Wait, what did you guys say?
00:45:03
Speaker
d d Probably d D or C. All right. Yeah, I think go with the D. Okay. Here's why. i like broccoli, but cheesy broccoli is mushy, and like the consistency is all wrong to me.
00:45:19
Speaker
It needs to be in a Panera Bread bread bowl. Well, that's a soup, isn't it? Yeah, that's basically... it's i mean, that's a little different to me. Mark's been getting... um At Costco, you can get like garlic parm broccoli that you can put in the air fryer. And Mark's been getting that.
00:45:36
Speaker
But it makes our house reek. Oh, no. Also, I feel like I should say, I don't, I think some of you know this. don't know all of you know this. I don't eat vegetables. So literally any vegetable on this list is going to be a vegan. Like I know Joey knows that and that's probably why he put me on this but like just so you guys know any vegetable DRS.
00:46:00
Speaker
I mostly wanted to hear your pie opinions but we've gotten really strong cornbread opinions instead. I like
00:46:08
Speaker
veggies. Kelly's positive veggie opinions will make up for my hateful ones. Me too. I like veggies. I do like veggies. All right, next up we have another casserole, cheesy squash casserole, which I've never had in my life. Never had that. No, that's D or E. It doesn't sound like so cheese should go with squash.
00:46:29
Speaker
No. I'm going to say e You know what? F. Yeah, I'm going with F too. don't like the way it sounds Alright, let's go into the trash. Squash not a texture that should go with cheese. no yeah Those textures don't work together. that's all yeah Do I like cheese? Do I like squash? Yes. love Do I want them to go and together?
00:46:51
Speaker
i really hope that a listener gets really offended by that. I know. We're going have somebody be like, my grandma's squash casserole recipe. It sucks. Your grandma's squash casserole recipe sucks.
00:47:06
Speaker
Okay, hey next up, collard greens.
00:47:15
Speaker
No. F, F, F. Yeah, I'm gonna go with E or F, yeah. Disgusting.
00:47:25
Speaker
Okay. Collard greens. I mean, this is a very Southern thing. I like, first of all, not very Thanksgiving. no like to me at least. And like, I will say that there are people in the South who make them really well, but the reason is because they soak it in butter and bacon.
00:47:39
Speaker
Yes. I was just going to say from, from everything my family has heard, because obviously I'm not eating that ish, but from everything my family says, collard greens are best when they have bacon or pork in them. Um, my mamaw used to make it with pork.
00:47:53
Speaker
I could get on board with that, but collard greens alone, and by the looks of this picture, an ass baby. yeah I'm fine with that, honestly. I'm fine with it. Anything has green in the name, All right.
00:48:10
Speaker
Corn pudding. What is that? Is that like corn casserole? Because corn casserole is essentially corn pudding. corn Yeah, I think that's pretty much the same.
00:48:21
Speaker
Okay, F. I'm going to say e I'm cool with an E. ah you Nobody likes this. Okay. Tyler. I was going to say B. What?
00:48:34
Speaker
Oh, okay. Okay, so I think it goes to a D then. I think so. Yeah, sure. Okay. Next up, we have corn. And the picture is corn on the cob specifically, which is summer food. should that.
00:48:51
Speaker
Corn on the cob. Corn on the cob. I'm always take corn on cob. And guess what? I can't eat a corn on the cob without having floss. So it's automatically going to a D for me.
00:49:06
Speaker
A C? It's a vegetable. It's an F for math. I was going to say a B. Not an F. I respect it. I'll give a B. I respect corn on the cob. I love that it makes people work to eat it. I like that energy.
00:49:26
Speaker
Mackie agrees. He agrees. Okay. What's our average? I feel like we're all over the place. I said B. I said C. Okay, so we have an A, a B, a C. D and then like and an e b an an E. So it's a to b no C. That's fine. Okay.
00:49:44
Speaker
Next we have, and this is specifically, okay, we have cranberry sauce, but it's the cranberry sauce in a bowl that is like... Fancy cranberry sauce. This is different than the canned one.
00:49:57
Speaker
Not canned. Canned be later. So this is cranberry sauce like... Properly The kind don't like. The kind I don't have. This is an e for me.
00:50:10
Speaker
ah c I going to say B. C. Mag? Mackie's yelling. um So, okay, D is neutral. i needed a ah I need to look at the things again. I don't like it, so I'm going put it at E. But I respect it.
00:50:28
Speaker
So we have two E's, ah B, and two C's. Yeah. so is it a d I think that's a C. see i think it's Yeah. yes y C or a D?
00:50:39
Speaker
I would put it at a D and so would Meg, but would you guys all say C? I'm fine with D, to be honest. Yeah, D's fine. what was D neutral. I can go with that. I'm okay with that. Okay.
00:50:50
Speaker
Next up, we have creamed corn. F. F. Nasty. I said that. I don't know if you have to do that right. B. Tom makes it and it's good.
00:51:05
Speaker
B. Okay, if he does it, good. I mean, he's yeah you know what? I feel like he would know. he's from he He lived in Texas. So I'll give it a B. Okay. I'll give it a C. Tom lived in Texas for like five years. That doesn't count.
00:51:21
Speaker
i'll still give it I'll still give him that credit, though. He lived there as a child. And it's because i've I had cream corn from, is it called like Rudy's or something? i don't i don't know what it's called over there. And I freaking loved it. i was like, oh my god, that is so good. i've never i had never had cream corn before that, and I really liked it. So so are we at like a C average?
00:51:42
Speaker
Plop with the other corn? I would prefer it in D, but... Okay, C or D? I'm going C. D. the All right, you guys win. I'm going to do a new thing where I just pick the higher one to make the food feel good about itself.
00:51:57
Speaker
Oh, okay. Next up is creamed spinach. Absolutely not, actually. That's F. F. Yeah, straight to the trash. yeahsh Trash, trash, trash. That's F. For sure. texture is so upsetting. Popeye is at your Thanksgiving, keep spinach away. Yeah. And even if he is there. Yeah, for real. The only spinach I like is with artichokes in a dip.
00:52:20
Speaker
Yeah. But I'd even rather have like spinach uncooked like in a salad than that. Yes, yes, yes. Yeah. Like that's terrible. spinach otherwise but I would rather have spinach in a smoothie than cooked spinach. Yeah. Okay. Next up we have crescent rolls.
00:52:37
Speaker
S. That's S. S tier. No questions. Tyler. Oh. We still have three S's.
00:52:48
Speaker
Three S's, an A, and a B. So I think that's S or an A. I'm going A. S. I feel like it can only be S if ever. S. There's three S's. Okay, it's S. All right, next up, we have deviled eggs, and I have a confession.
00:53:06
Speaker
have never had a deviled egg in my life because it's much disgusting. Oh God. Oh, that's right. that's what I have and I don't like them. I love deviled eggs. I love them too. only The only deviled egg I came close to eating was that fake deviled egg at HHN. At HHN. It's just panna cotta and not at all like an actual deviled egg. What is the yellow stuff?
00:53:28
Speaker
It's the yolk. Mustard and mayonnaise. And mustard sometimes. don't like mustard, so that's probably I like mustard and mayonnaise. It's not very mustardy though. It depends on who makes. I mean, it depends. I make them without mustard sometimes.
00:53:42
Speaker
It's going in the E for me. was it HHN that had the deviled egg flight? No. It wasn't a flight. It was just like phone. It was like a dessert. It was my devil like had a deviled egg flight. I've heard of what you're talking about, though. Wait, no, there was a deviled egg flight in, what's the restaurant that we went to in Chicago?
00:54:02
Speaker
Maybe that's what it was. Oh, Tim? That's where it was. I think Stephanie had gotten a flight. That's what it was. Yes, yes. see i would like that interesting but i also putting it in e is it thanksgiving like i don't oh everyone i have it for thanksgiving thanksgiving that's a midwest thing for sure i would i would put it at b be we have two b's and a and e and what do you have meg Okay, so here's the thing. i have a problem with how this is ranked because D is neutral and then it says don't really care for it. If you don't care for something, you're not neutral on it. So that just feels wrong.
00:54:38
Speaker
I'm not taking any, so I'm going to E. And I'm going to yell at my husband really quick, so I'm going mute. Okay. An A, two Bs, and two Es. So we're between a C and a D. Okay?
00:54:52
Speaker
I think it's C. see Okay. C it is. Again, never had it and hating on it. so It looks disgusting and I don't like mustard. Prove me wrong. They're good.
00:55:04
Speaker
yeah Next up we have dinner rolls. And as a reminder, our bread so far, we have crescent rolls at S and we have biscuits and cornbread at C. So dinner roll for me is going to go to a B. b a Love you too. A. Okay, we're B then.
00:55:26
Speaker
Next up, we have dressing, which somebody explained the difference between dressing and stuffing because I think I've only ever had stuffing. Yeah, I thought that is that i thought they were the same thing. i think it's the same, but one is just like in a pan and one you put in the turkey.
00:55:46
Speaker
That makes sense. That's it. Stuffing is cooked inside the turkey. Dressing is baked in a pan outside the turkey. Well, then I guess I've only had dressing. Yeah, I've never had stuffing. yeah i Dressing that is going to S tier for me. yeah Yeah, I'll do that.
00:56:04
Speaker
I can do A. can do A. I think S tier is too much. No, it's the best. It's the best food in my whole table. Meg? So here's the thing.
00:56:18
Speaker
um Are we talking dressing or stuffing? Dressing in pan. talking dressing in the pan. Dressing in the pan. I will give ah depends on what it's what's in it though, because there's some that I'll There's so many varieties. wont I know. Yeah. Truly. So you know what? I'm just going to go with a D, which is neutral because sometimes I'll eat it. Sometimes I won't.
00:56:39
Speaker
Sherry's dressing is S tier. I believe that. What does she put in it? I don't even know. And honestly, it's probably best that I don't. Fair. Fair.
00:56:51
Speaker
So what is that? ah Like a B average?
00:56:56
Speaker
Let's vote A or B. A. B. A. A. B. No, Did you just go from a D to an A? No. Well, I thought I had to vote between the two.
00:57:09
Speaker
But then I mean, if I'm like then B, but then it would still be three A's against two B's. No, it's three B's and two A's. I oh i thought it was two B's. No, three three A's. Three A's?
00:57:21
Speaker
Okay. I'm happy with that. Next up is gravy.
00:57:27
Speaker
E, I don't like it crazy. Whoa. I don't like it ah in any format on any a occasion. Really? Yes. Interesting.
00:57:37
Speaker
I'm neutral about it. I'm like ah like a C. I don't like drenching things in it, but I use a little bit. so Same. I'm a C. Yeah. So I think we're at a D average. Well, you're the only person that said E. Everybody else so i said E. I said E. I said E and Rafa said D. I said D.
00:57:56
Speaker
So D, yeah. So, okay. All right. I thought Rafa said C. Oh, no, no. Oh, we yeah Do we need to start, like, doing this numerically, like, mathematically? No, Meg, that's too complicated.
00:58:11
Speaker
Okay, next up, green bean casserole. Remember what I said? Green in the name? Oh my god, I love green bean casserole so much. This is specifically the one with the fried onions?
00:58:25
Speaker
Yes! okay The fried onions on top. S, S, S. That's S tier for me. B. e oh my. Okay.
00:58:38
Speaker
So we have two S's, B. E and an F. So D. I think it's C. Yeah, probably because it has two S's.
00:58:48
Speaker
Yeah. ah see That's terrible. Honestly, I'm not as afraid. Green bean casserole needs to be knocked down a peg. i said it. We have green beans alone.
00:59:01
Speaker
Also, i I'm going D. I like these better. um oh hell no. Actually, I'll go C. I'll eat them. B. b How do y'all put a green bean in your mouth? That texture is disgusting. Oh, I love a green bean. Olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic. It's good. The texture it. I'm good with B, actually.
00:59:25
Speaker
B. Tyler, did you say B? I said E again. Oh. Rafa, what did you say? I'm going to go E. Okay, so we have... It's like a c or D. I think it's a D then with yeah asparagus.
00:59:41
Speaker
Okay. Next up, we have two different types of ham. One just says ham, and the other one is spiral ham. Yeah. feel like we can consolidate that, can't we? Yeah.
00:59:54
Speaker
don't really the difference. The spiral ham is specifically like that honey glazed one that's cut in a specific style. Whereas a ham is more of like a ham steak. It doesn't really have the same like seasoning on it. the thick slices. Right.
01:00:07
Speaker
Right. So thin sliced spiral ham with a honey glaze or like thick slices of like ham without a specific flavoring. So we'll do spiral ham first because it's on here. So thinner, think like more lunch meat-esque ham with a honey glaze. Yeah.
01:00:25
Speaker
going to go with B. B. That's pretty good, but it's not like amazing. So y'all remember how I said there was one opinion that I would die on the hill of? Oh, it's the ham. Here we go. Ham is not a Thanksgiving food. and i but i be good Ham is like my favorite meat, so I'm going to always eat ham. Ham has two other full holidays that it it belongs to. Let turkey have its moment.
01:00:54
Speaker
wait I hate turkey, but we'll get there. But anyway, ham sucks. It's an F for me, dog. Any ham does not belong on a Thanksgiving table. I said it. Okay, so we have two Bs, an E, an F. Rafa, what are you?
01:01:08
Speaker
I'll go with B. No, Tyler said F. Yeah, F. Wouldn't you, Tyler? Yeah, that's two Fs, girl. Okay, two Fs and three Bs.
01:01:19
Speaker
So it's between a C and a D. That's a D. That might be D. That's pretty low. Damn. Okay, now we're talking the thick, chunky boy ham. That's worse. Which is worse, but it's still enough. That's an F minus.
01:01:37
Speaker
Oh my god. i would put it at a C. That's C me after class. That's what that is. Can we at least agree to put spiral in C and this one in D?
01:01:48
Speaker
no yeah and You can do D and E if you want to. Hell no. that's too low. That's crazy. Sorry, Ham. Maybe you shouldn't keep forcing yourself on holidays.
01:02:04
Speaker
Okay, I'm fine. What if we put that regular ham in E, but we move spiral up to C? I'm good with that. Up to How about D? with d keep It in D. All right, D and E. That's where they belong. Yeah, and E.
01:02:17
Speaker
So three of us disagree with that. Three of us disagree with that. Yep. Yep. Yep. It's already decided. Three versus two. I'm going to listen to this episode and I'm going to do the math and then do an accurate list. More hope I feel here, okay? And three is more than two. That's my math. Okay.
01:02:40
Speaker
Next up we have another bread. King's Hawaiian Rolls. Which I've never had at Thanksgiving, but they are yummy. Why Thanksgiving? But I mean, Wait, did you say S?
01:02:52
Speaker
S. Sam. Okay, what? It's a bread. I'm going to say B. Because they don't belong there, but I do like them. Why do they not belong there? They've been at all of my Thanksgivings. Really? I've never had a Thanksgiving.
01:03:08
Speaker
yeah We always have a plan. Yeah, ham would be really good on one of those. I i bet you could do that on Christmas or Easter. Okay.
01:03:21
Speaker
Final vote. Joey. A. Tyler. A. Rafa. S. Meg. S. And I'm going b so with an A. A. Okay.
01:03:37
Speaker
I know the math on that one. Next up. jellied canned cranberry sauce. F. So bad. no else Yeah. Kelly is shook. What?
01:03:53
Speaker
Are you guys okay? Let's pour it into the trash can. Love cranberry sauce. don't love the jellied one though. pour it into the trash can yeah like love cranberries he has i don't love the jelly one though Yes, and I want you to think about the sound that it makes when it comes out of the can. I love and it. It's like... It's so satisfying.
01:04:21
Speaker
And you can feel... You're shaking the tube, and you can feel the release in pressure. Okay, anyway. Okay, I'm going A.
01:04:37
Speaker
So now wait, you have to give your ranking and then do your best cranberry sauce can noise of when it's like a it's like a
01:04:58
Speaker
into the trash, which is why it's an f yeah onto my plate onto my plate i'd eat a whole can of it right now with a fork we'll we'll just schlop that sauce right into your mouth kelly not me doing this as i i'll catch it right out of the can to be honest i bet cool one so so we'll give kelly her a so everybody else has it an f and it can be an e okay next is mac and cheese
01:05:31
Speaker
as It's not a Thanksgiving food. going
01:05:39
Speaker
i'm going i'm going b You're gonna make this be dragged down to an Rafa, Rafa. I said S. Okay, it's an A. No, hold on, hold on, no, hold on.
01:05:52
Speaker
I'm kidding. Four S's still count as an S. That's fine. Okay, mashed. Well, we just had four F's and we didn't put that jelly cranberry sauce in F either.
01:06:04
Speaker
That's a good point, Joey. Maybe we should go back. Math it. Math that. It's different. It's math. yep further a apart Yep. Yep. All right. All right. That's fair.
01:06:17
Speaker
Okay. Mashed potatoes. S. A. A. B. B. Actually, I'm going to retract and put A because I'm very partial to like only my mom's mashed potatoes. It has to be done well. And in this household, they ain't done well. transpired Shots Shots fired. They're all a little chunky and a little tasteless. oh
01:06:49
Speaker
Wait, hold on. Quick question. What is everyone's opinion on instant mashed potatoes? Because I refuse to eat them. no don like no No. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. So where are We B, B, a A. I think three A's. Three A's. Okay.
01:07:07
Speaker
Yeah. That's fine. right. Next up, we have Peach Cobbler, which feels summery to me, but I love peach. It does feel summery. I'm going to say B. B. I'm going to go B. B. Okay.
01:07:23
Speaker
Okay. I'm going to say C, but you guys just keep it at B because that's still the math. Next up, we have a very ugly picture of peas. Yeah, that could be an F for me. d e
01:07:43
Speaker
Well, which one? e Because it'll change. okay yeah I'm probably not going to take any, let's be honest. Okay, so it's an F then. Yeah, I'm fine with that. Next up we have pecan pie or pecan pie. Pecan. Uh,
01:08:01
Speaker
Meg, I want to know. So I make a pecan cream pie instead of a standard ah pecan pie. That sounds better. i have, I know many of my family is partial to it now because I've made it for the past few years. Um,
01:08:19
Speaker
I will eat that, but I will not eat a regular pecan pie because I get irritated at how sticky it is. So for this purpose, because I'm not going to ask you to just put a pie that you haven't had on here, but for this purpose, I'm pretending that it's my pecan cream pie, which I would put in B. I'm going to go. going say I'm good with B. Yeah.
01:08:45
Speaker
Oh shit. You can't have them.
01:08:50
Speaker
Tyler, are you allowed to like go south with that opinion? Yeah, I can't have pecans. We can't have anaphylaxis up in here. Yeah. I did know that. We can just DQ that because yeah. Yeah, you can eat it. You can't eat it then. Yeah.
01:09:05
Speaker
Okay, potato salad, which I've never also had on Thanksgiving, but I do like it. What? I always have it on Thanksgiving. Really? Yeah.
Potato Salad Ingredients Debate
01:09:13
Speaker
Yeah. had it before. It's not like a staple, but we've had it.
01:09:18
Speaker
We probably have that more than mashed potatoes. Like, i think it's just, maybe it's a Hispanic thing. I don't know. Like, we always go for a potato salad. Great. I'll go with B. um I'm okay with B. Yeah, B sounds good.
01:09:28
Speaker
D. Megan? I'm going say D or E. Sorry, I forgot I was meaning. Ooh, so I think it goes to C then. Yeah. Wait, what's your most controversial potato salad ingredient?
01:09:41
Speaker
Aren't there people that put raisins in it? Yeah, there are people that put raisins in it. Oh, no, no, no, no. I'm not. There are also people that put grapes in it. Oh. I've had that before and it's actually good. Is it? Yeah. I've had apples in it before. That I would like. yeah I like that. Yeah, apples are good.
01:09:59
Speaker
I'm not a fan of raisins in there, though. It's a texture thing. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, next up, we have pumpkin pie. oh and we are we doing pumpkin and sweet potato back to back yeah we can do pumpkin pumpkin is better than sweet potato for me I love sweet potatoes but when it's a pie it's ah it is a pumpkin I agree with that okay um pumpkin A agree S for me yeah it was S for me too I could get on board with an Meg Meg
01:10:37
Speaker
I'm going to put it at a C. I'm not really a pumpkin pie girly. Okay, you're still trying it. You're still trying it, though. so I think it's an A, though. I'll always eat it, and I'll always eat the whipped cream off the top. I just might not always eat pie. Yeah, I think that's A, then. Okay.
01:10:52
Speaker
So then where are we putting sweet potato? I'm putting it at a C. I think it's a B or a C right there. B, just underneath. I would put it at a sea only because I've never actually had sweet potato pie, so I would try it just to try it.
01:11:08
Speaker
I'm good with C. Yeah. okay yeah I wouldn't be getting as big of a slice of that as other pies, that's for sure. They taste so similar. yeah All alright and while we're talking about sweet potato, let's just go right over to roasted sweet potatoes.
01:11:27
Speaker
Yes. i Never had that. i Never had it either. Oh, they're so good. What? Why have you guys not done that? I assume it's probably akin to like sweet potato fries. basic Yeah. because Yeah. basically yeah you put like olive oil, salt and pepper on it. And yeah, it's like a slightly healthier sweet potato fry.
01:11:47
Speaker
It sounds good. It's an A. It's an A for me. I try it. I try it. So I'll put it in a C. Yeah. I'd put it at B. So B?
01:12:00
Speaker
Tyler, I thought you were about to be spicy. You had a face. No. It sounds delicious. I've just never had it. Okay, and we have one more sweet potato variety. is a sweet potato casserole.
01:12:13
Speaker
See, I thought that was like the same as candy yams. Marshmallow on top. Oh. Yeah, the casserole is like marshmallow on top. Yes. It's almost like a mashed potato, sweet potato in it instead of being heck yes like chunks.
01:12:29
Speaker
So for me, texturally, that's... have this basically at Knoebels, but it's so good there. I'm going a C. Yeah, C for me. I'm going S. Wow, okay.
01:12:43
Speaker
I love that stuff.
01:12:46
Speaker
D. Oof. We have S, A, two Cs, and a D. B? So we're between B and C? ah Yeah, I think works out to a be I'm good with that. Okay.
01:13:01
Speaker
All right. We have roasted butternut squash. Never had that. Squash and sweet potatoes are so close to me sometimes. Yeah, butternut squash definitely has a different flavor to it. Yeah.
01:13:15
Speaker
But it's not as good as sweet potatoes to me. Agree. Agree. um Where did the sweet potatoes end up? A? roasted sweet potatoes ended up in B. So roasted squash for me would be a C. Yeah.
01:13:28
Speaker
I'm going to say E because I have a particular issue with squash because it smells and looks the same as squash baby food.
01:13:40
Speaker
And that is not right to me. You're not wrong. I can go with E. Oh, okay. So i think it's a D. Yeah. All right.
01:13:52
Speaker
Next up, we just very generic looking roasted veggies.
01:13:59
Speaker
What do you do with that? I'll say B. i need to know what those veggies are. Right. Yeah. Looks like carrots. Yeah. I definitely see carrots. I definitely see maybe some potatoes in this picture.
01:14:14
Speaker
It looks like squash. It looks more like root veggies. Like a zucchini. Squash, potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. ah B. yeah I'll go with C to make myself feel better. Yeah, I'm going D.
01:14:30
Speaker
I'm going to say C because I would eat the potatoes and that's it. guys fair This is a nice bell-shaped photo right here. We're almost at four left. Yeah.
01:14:42
Speaker
All right. Next up, we have scalloped potatoes. Are these specifically and cheesy scalloped potatoes? They look pretty cheesy and I've never had them at Thanksgiving, but I love a cheesy scalloped potato.
01:14:56
Speaker
Love. You don't have them at Thanksgiving? No. I think it counts. I'm going I'm going A. going A. I'm going Okay.
01:15:09
Speaker
I'm going to say C. um It very much depends on who's making it because a lot of people, I think, to put too much sour cream in. Is that part of it? Sometimes. yeah so maybe I guess maybe I just don't like it when people do put sour cream in it.
01:15:27
Speaker
don't ever had it that way. Yeah, it makes same. I put it in B, actually. And that actually makes sense with things around it.
01:15:39
Speaker
think that averages... B? We're going be i think that goes to B. Okay. Next up, we're talking about turkey, which I have strong opinions about. We got two choices here. We've got the light turkey meat and the dark turkey meat.
01:15:55
Speaker
Turkey is disgusting. It should not be a part of any holiday meal. It shouldn't be a part of any meal. It is so icky. you like I always just get it to have it on my plate because everyone else does. i don't like it no matter who cooks it, how it's cooked. I don't like it. I will prefer dark meat to to light meat though.
01:16:18
Speaker
so you will eat it though. Because it's less healthy. Interesting. You and my sister, we get along. going to start. Let's... What? Everything you just said, that's ham for me.
01:16:30
Speaker
Okay. yeah That's so weird to me. Ham is so good. I know. ham Ham is like my first choice. Ham is the only pig I don't eat.
01:16:41
Speaker
I don't know why. it's just never. Yeah, same actually. Like, never been a thing. What's my favorite? Oh, wait. So are we doing white meat or dark meat first? We'll do dark first.
01:16:52
Speaker
And for me, it's a C. going to put it at A. going A. e B. Okay, so I think we have two A's, a B, a C, and an E. So C?
01:17:11
Speaker
C? C. What is it? Two A's? Two A's, B, C, and an E. I think that's a C. Yeah. Yeah. I'm good with that. Joey, why an E? I'm curious.
01:17:24
Speaker
um I never take any. I prefer white meat. And maybe that's just because my family cooks it properly. I know that it's very easy for the white meat to dry out. um It's specifically like good white meat that I'm talking about, but I don't know. I just prefer it. I don't like picking around the bones and stuff. Just give me a nice piece of the breast and let's go.
01:17:44
Speaker
right. On that note, white meat. I am going with e B. I'm going with B. I'm going with b Go C. Does that also land in C? I think so. I think so. Or maybe even D, honestly.
01:18:04
Speaker
Probably see Yeah. Low C. All
Thanksgiving Food Review
01:18:07
Speaker
right. And last but not least, we have stuffing. Like the stuffing that goes in the bird. F. have That grosses me out. Stuffing is inherently perverted. so I'm going to put it in the F.
01:18:23
Speaker
I was going to say E, but I'm fine with F. I'm okay with or F. Stuffing from the bird is an M word. Whose idea was this? And are they in jail? Because they probably are. Hopefully.
01:18:42
Speaker
they sure We've done it. We did it. Shall we review? We made it. Here's the review. F, put it in the trash. We have cheesy squash casserole, collard greens, steamed, creamed spinach, peas, and stuffing. Yep.
01:19:00
Speaker
In E, we have regular thick boy ham and the cranberry sauce from a can, which I, that hurts my soul. That's Amelia's number one Thanksgiving food. Is it?
01:19:15
Speaker
Yes. D in neutral, we have asparagus, banana pudding, Brussels sprouts, cheesy broccoli casserole, cranberry sauce, corn pudding, gravy, green beans, and roasted butternut squash.
01:19:29
Speaker
In C, the okay, I'll try a little bit. We have biscuits, cornbread, corn, deviled eggs, green bean casserole, creamed corn, spiral ham, potato salad, sweet potato pie, roasted veggies, dark turkey meat, and light turkey meat.
01:19:43
Speaker
In B, good, tasty, but not a priority. We have baked potato, candied yams, dinner rolls, peach cobbler, pecan pie, roasted sweet potatoes, sweet potato casserole, and scalloped potatoes.
01:19:56
Speaker
In a great, a big portion, we have apple pie, dressing, King's Hawaiian rolls, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie. And in S tier, we have the lonely crescent rolls and mac and cheese.
01:20:10
Speaker
Oh, yeah. That's it, really. That's it. Put those two things together and it's not even like not necessarily Thanksgiving. Nope. That's hilarious. Can I tell you something about my Thanksgiving dinner?
01:20:25
Speaker
Yes. My brother and i historically refer to um our plates as the white plate club. and people thought that I was saying like, oh because our plates are like so white people. No, I'm literally talking about the food.
01:20:39
Speaker
At Thanksgiving, my plate consists of turkey, bread, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese is the only thing that has any color in it at all.
01:20:51
Speaker
That's so sad. Mm-hmm. But it's all delicious like carbs and stuff. So there you go. Exactly. That's all yeah I do. And then pie. Amazing. So like the only color is like whatever pie Yeah.
01:21:05
Speaker
Well, we did it somehow. We'll post that on the socials and let people get really upset about it. I'm i'm sure they will. I think a lot of people are gonna be upset. I think I actually might do the math just because it sounds entertaining to do.
01:21:18
Speaker
Please, yeah. Tell us where you went wrong. Yeah, i'll tell you. um And then metal Mike did send in a question with a blind ranking, and all of the things that he put in the blind ranking, we just ranked. So we answered your question there. Aw.
01:21:34
Speaker
There's Megan. That's little makeshift pilgrim outfit. Yeah. I feel like all of us had to do that at some point in like, I don't know, pre-K or whatever. Yeah. We had on those silly hats and the bibs.
01:21:48
Speaker
Amazing. yup Okay. Well, thank you so much, Meg, for joining us to rank all of these foods and have ridiculous opinions. um Do you want to plug your your podcast?
01:21:59
Speaker
My podcast, but I don't know if it's even happening anymore. yeah. Yeah, I had a podcast. It was called You're Gonna Die, Curse Word, and the curse word starts with a B. rhymes with witch. It rhymes with witch.
01:22:13
Speaker
And um we used to talk about horror movies and recap and review horror movies. um We recently recorded an episode for the first time in six months, and we don't really know what it's going to look like moving forward. um And we might change the name. We might not. It I don't know. So you can go be whatever it wants to be, Meg. Yeah, it can be whatever it wants to be. It's it's just going through. um It's it's finding its identity right now. um But we have a like back catalog of like 50 something episodes. So you can go listen to those if you want to.
01:22:42
Speaker
Yeah, they're super fun way to to listen about a horror film. And you don't actually have to like scary movies to listen to the podcast because yes, it's interesting. I hadn't even seen some of the movies and I was entertained.
01:22:54
Speaker
ah Um, also maybe give us a teaser about what's coming in the newsletter for buzz bars. Is that allowed to come out?
01:23:04
Speaker
That's Kelly thing now. I know, but earlier, like we were talking about how I'm not an enthusiast. If you want, if you want my like actual reasoning behind that, um, if you're a buzz bars member, it'll be in the newsletter and I got real spicy with it, but I was proud of it.
01:23:22
Speaker
so So check it out. had to do quite a bit of reformatting to fit everything, but I need to happen. Amazing. I made other people do the work for me. Wait, is that why you asked the enthusiast question?
01:23:44
Speaker
You'll find out. on 1st only if you're a buzz bars member yes yes go be a member of buzz bars join for that join buzz bars pretty sure my membership is not active so i need to do neither is mine wow people literally i'm fully married to one of the club founders and did not join until two years ago so this is true this is true
Podcast Farewells and Holiday Previews
01:24:13
Speaker
All right. thanks for having me, friends. I love you all. Yeah. Love you, too. Thanks for being Thanks for doing a fun podcast. All right. Of course. I'm getting off of here.
01:24:26
Speaker
Moving on to thrills. None of us have been to parks within the last few weeks. So all we have to say is that we have some visits coming up to get excited for this upcoming Friday. Probably when the episode drops, I'm going to be at wild adventures for their holiday event.
01:24:42
Speaker
um I got thanked you to Asher shout out. I got invited to a VIP event there to check out their event. And um I'm excited for that. I'll be driving down there. And then Kelly and Tyler, you guys are headed to Hershey park.
01:24:56
Speaker
What's the name of their event? Christmas Candy Lane. Yes. And then Rafa, you have Christmas something as well headed your way, sort of, with a twist. Yeah. So very on brand with the with the spooky themes. So there's actually, um we have a horror event here. It's called Horrorland Miami. um It's located in Jungle Island, um which is down in Miami Beach. um So they're doing a Krampus event. So um they say that what you can expect are live scare actors,
01:25:27
Speaker
dark Christmas photo ops, nightmarish performances, and then full walkthroughs. So I've never been, I've never been to horror land. i didn't even know was a thing before, but yeah. very ah Very on brand for this podcast. Very on brand. So yeah, we're checking that out this weekend. So we will talk about that next time.
01:25:48
Speaker
We'll be reporting back on that soon, our next episode. ah So another thing that happened over Thanksgiving weekend is near and dear to Kelly's heart, for sure. Wicked
Wicked for Good Sequel Discussion
01:25:59
Speaker
for Good came out and we wanted to just discuss it real quick. Kelly, what did you think?
01:26:05
Speaker
It was great. I saw it with my mom and my daughter I'm ex and It was amazing. I feel like I, people are like, Oh, which one's better. And they are very different. The two halves as is the show. it feels very separate. This is definitely like a darker, spookier vibe. So I liked that obviously.
01:26:28
Speaker
um There's a lot more. Sorry if you don't know about wicked, like this is, this is a spoiler, I guess, but like, it's a lot more tied into the wizard of Oz. Yeah.
01:26:39
Speaker
um In the second, well, I say the second half because i think of it as the Broadway musical, which is the first half and second half is where they split the movies. But um if you...
01:26:52
Speaker
grew up watching the wizard of Oz, like I did, um you'll get a little bit more out of the second half or the second movie, I think. And also the people are saying like the music and the first half is better. i think a lot of people just think like wicked is defying gravity, which is in the first act.
01:27:11
Speaker
Um, but I am obsessed with no good deed and Cynthia Erivo's version of it is so good. I cannot stop listening to it. And also for good is very good.
01:27:25
Speaker
um Do recommend. And if you haven't seen the first wicked, i recommend both of them. They are long. They take time to watch. They are. What did you think Rafa? um I, I loved it. i I going into it, I felt like,
01:27:41
Speaker
I feel like like my initial reaction, I was slightly disappointed and it was only just because i was comparing it too much to the first one and then I kept having to remind myself that this is the second act. Like this is literally what happens in a single show.
01:27:56
Speaker
um So, you know, for them to break it up, of course they were going to be very different. um So I feel like once I thought of that and I, you know, realized that I think I, you know, I softened up to it and I was like, OK, no, it it was it was pretty great. um The music was great. um You mentioned um No Good Deed and then For Good. But I feel like the one that people aren't talking enough about and I really liked it was Thank Goodness. I feel like Thank Goodness was so good. And i don't know why. Like I just when I listened to it, I think it was one of those that like I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as.
01:28:29
Speaker
like I thought I would have like going into it. um But yeah, I mean, overall, I mean, it's a great movie. I don't think it's better than the first. I feel like the first was very, very strong. I feel like the first one had a better, they they knew how to like pull out the heartstrings a little bit more. um i feel like there was a little more to that. There was more of an emotional part to that, but then the part two was just as emotional. I think it's just, I guess,
01:28:54
Speaker
preference but yeah there is a scene in part two that is super emotional that is a little bit deeper than what they show in the musical and that really got me because i wasn't really expecting it yeah there were a lot of changes that they made compared to the musical that i really appreciated because i feel like it was needed to make it work in a movie like You're, you know, going from a stage show to a film is two totally different worlds. You have to make it work, you know, and I feel like the way that they did the ending and, you know, everything that we don't normally see in the in the show, I feel like it was, you know, a great addition.
01:29:27
Speaker
So I really enjoyed it. It was awesome. Yeah. And the cinematography is so well done. Yes. Yeah. Yes. Yeah, I really enjoyed it as well. um i i I definitely think that the first film is better, but that's also the way I feel about the musical, that the first act is better.
01:29:45
Speaker
um I think that the first movie was about Cynthia and that this one felt more about Ariana, just in the terms of like how their performances were and how it kind of felt it pivoted around their characters. Because they...
01:29:59
Speaker
Like their arcs are kind of in each act in the way that they did this film. Whereas in the Broadway show, you don't really see those arcs separated as much and you don't get as much of Glinda's kind of like change in act two as you see in the movie.
01:30:15
Speaker
So I appreciated that, that they kind of filled it out. I will say that i i there was a little bit of like pacing issues for me, like the Broadway show, because it's, I mean, the second act is like an hour compared to the, what is it like two hour 15 movie. So it, it drives a lot faster. And I did want in a couple places it to kind of like pick up.
01:30:35
Speaker
um But I did appreciate some of the additional context that they added around it to kind of fill in the gaps that you don't see in the show that happens like off stage. Yeah. I agree. Good points.
01:30:49
Speaker
Tyler, you have to watch Wicked. Didn't see the second one. Never seen the first one. Never seen the Broadway show. I mean, I'm open to it. i just, I haven't.
01:31:01
Speaker
i think you would like it. We're going to fix this at some point. I have seen some interviews. and Oh, God. suit of an ear spill. Why are the two of them, they don't even act like human beings. It's just absolutely bizarre.
01:31:16
Speaker
not wrong This should have been your spell. my God, i was dying the other day. It's just like, like it I don't even know what I'm looking at. Those are like two aliens interacting with each other.
01:31:28
Speaker
But isn't that like very theater kid? Very theater kid. That's how I took it. I feel like I explained that to everybody that talks about that. And I'm like, I feel like you didn't, like when I talk these people, like, I feel like you didn't pay attention to like the thespians in high school because this was very much that. It's so theater kid. That was always the way that they were. So to me, it just wasn't anything surprising. I was like, okay, like those are theater kids. other thing is like, they filmed the movies like back to back. So it was a really long filming. And when you do a show, like when you're part of a performance like that, you like get all wrapped up in it and like you make all these friends and it's really tight knit. And it doesn't translate well to like these talk show interview formats. Like they're like- Where they're holding each other's fingers. It's like very theater kid energy and like the mainstream is not prepared for all of that. Yeah, it's so theater kid. You're right on point with that, which I was, so-
01:32:26
Speaker
Anyway, so Tyler will see that someday. yeah Moving on. well We will work on that. ah Next is we're going to talk about some chills because it's still got to be spooky.
Stranger Things Finale Anticipation
01:32:37
Speaker
um So we briefly mentioned it earlier, but Stranger Things did just come out. And i think all four of us have seen all the episodes, right?
01:32:45
Speaker
Yes. you haven't seen it and you plan to, now's your time to leave. Spoiler alert. um So what did you think? lot anybody I'm obsessed. it's It was great.
01:32:58
Speaker
It's so good. I'm going have to watch it again because I can't wait until Christmas. That was the thing. The episodes dropped and then I looked at the schedule and I was like, are you kidding me? I have wait like this long. actually got my tickets for the finale at the theater because I have to watch it on the big screen.
01:33:14
Speaker
I have to watch it. Whoa, that's a great idea. I didn't know that was a thing. Good luck finding it because they sold out instantly today. Like all Showtimes have been sold out here. Like I got lucky, like I was looking at like an 8 p.m. showing they were having and we picked like random seats. We found two random ones. we We're like, OK, well, we'll go ahead and take that. And then they sold out as I was trying to purchase them. And then luckily, because that filled up, they added an additional like auditorium for that same showtime, which we were able to get tickets for. Wow. But it's.
01:33:46
Speaker
It's selling like crazy. Like, it's insane. I cannot wait. Like, I need to watch that. this is going to be such a big deal. i cannot wait. Do we know how long it is? It's supposed to be two hours and five minutes. Okay. So, yeah, it's like feature length for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Two hours and five minutes is what they're saying.
01:34:02
Speaker
Very interesting. can't see, but Kelly immediately picked her phone up to look at any theaters near her. Literally. You have to put, I think it's...
01:34:13
Speaker
It's st5finale.com. And that gives you a list of all of the the the theaters that are playing it. Nice.
01:34:24
Speaker
Yeah. I thought it was great, though. I don't have hardly any complaints. I feel like the internet had a lot of complaints, and I just don't really think a lot of them are valid. like Yeah. they They say that the actors look too old. I mean, yeah, they're like 22, whatever. They're easily passing as...
01:34:42
Speaker
high schoolers in my opinion. It's not as bad as other shows that have like 30 year olds playing. teenagers And I feel like, I feel like also like you, you have to remember that like you're, you're going from like, what like grade were they in at the first season? Like sixth grade or something like, and then going over to high school, basically like you're, those years are a lot more,
01:35:03
Speaker
crucial than like somebody going from like 25 to 30. Like the age difference, like physically is going to look different when they're that young. So of course they're going to have some major changes. that I don't think it does much to the story. It doesn't affect it at all.
01:35:16
Speaker
Yeah. and People said the sets looked cheap. I didn't notice that at all. Yeah. I didn't notice that. I think you just want nitpick. Yeah. I mean, I saw like some things about pacing and I i do agree that,
01:35:31
Speaker
ah like getting through the first episode did feel like a lot of exposition because we were, but I mean, understandably, like we were like set several, like the time change, you know, and we were in a different world at this point and how to kind of catch up with where all of these characters were. So I understand why that was all there. And then like, once it started picking up, I was like, Oh yeah, here we go. Like, and they kind of had little moments at the end of each episode that pulled you back into the next one. and you're like, okay,
01:35:58
Speaker
Like what, why is like, I knew immediately um when I forgot the little girl's name, when she was going out into the woods. Yeah. That wasn't, you know, from him. And I was like, okay, well, well, who did that? And like, why are they going out there? And I was like, oh, here we go. It's Max. Speaking of that, Holly, Holly Wheeler, she was chilling.
01:36:20
Speaker
In Henry's house after her parents got rocked the night before. Like, what are you doing? Literally. I'm good. I'm safe. She's dancing to music. I'm like, you just saw your parents get like slashed. Like they're both in the hospital right now. And you're over here dancing in Henry's house. Get out of here. Like what the hell's going on? That was great.
01:36:41
Speaker
That was crazy. But for me, like, Huge highlights. Erica, she remains my favorite character in this show. She's so funny. um The whole pie scene was hilarious.
01:36:52
Speaker
um And um Derek, Derek is hilarious. That is a great addition. Yeah, great addition to the season. um But yeah, no, it's it's a very solid season. I do see the pacing issues, but I think I was just so excited about it that it it was okay. Did you get him?
01:37:11
Speaker
Yes. What? Did you get it for New Year's Eve or for New Year's Day? Year's Eve. Ten minutes away, baby. Ooh. That was lucky. That was easy that took me for you. I'm glad you said something. I had no idea. Yeah, we got tickets. Yeah, i was like looking through and we got lucky after like a couple tries.
01:37:31
Speaker
Also, this is unrelated and I know I didn't speak about the show that you guys were just talking about because I was really in the zone for a minute there. but I know, you know how I know that Tyler manages Buzzbars social media? I'm doing right now Buzzbars awards on Instagram. And every time open the Buzzbars Instagram, Stranger Things, Stranger Things, Stranger Things is everything on the page.
01:37:55
Speaker
I'm like, this is... This man on the Buzzbars account liking all the Stranger Things stuff. Not the FYB being changed. but don't. don't really. I don't really. I don't really. Oh, on the Buzzbars account, though. It doesn't matter. The internet knows.
01:38:10
Speaker
internet knows what you're doing. Yeah. That is so funny. definitely talk about it. I forget that I'm on Buzzbars sometimes. I'm like, oh, is this my Instagram? Yeah.
01:38:23
Speaker
ah ah There are worse things that could have popped up. so ah We don't want to know. Yeah, I don't. Any other highlights? um What else?
01:38:36
Speaker
We can do an entire episode on this, honestly. And maybe we will. Maybe we will at the end. Yeah. How about death predictions? Who do we think is dying? Oh, we just talked about this last night. Yeah. Okay. I think... Everybody give two. Okay?
01:38:50
Speaker
okay i think... Mike and Vecna. Fair. I could see feel like Vecna is cheating because- Yeah, I'm not going to go with Vecna because I feel like that's- Okay, then I'm going to Mike and Hopper.
01:39:10
Speaker
Oh. Yeah. So I hate- I'm over him. Hopper? I don't like what his- Yeah, I don't like what his character has become. He's annoying. AF.
01:39:23
Speaker
I feel like Hopper and Eleven kind of, I feel like they had their time to shine earlier on. you get it. and We're not getting, like, it's not, like, we're we're just not rooting for them as much, or I'm not at least as much anymore compared to earlier on. Not at all, yeah. She can cry all she wants about what he's doing, and I'm like, honestly, whatever.
01:39:43
Speaker
you got some You got some setup attached to you going into the the room? Yeah. Right. Whatever. He's just annoying. He's too... I don't know. It's just like toxic masculinity, paternalistic BS. I can see that. That was cute when she was little and he first got her, I guess.
01:40:05
Speaker
But now it's like, okay, she's like a full-fledged adult or like close to adult. Okay, i chill out. I do that. Yeah, i think we'll be fine if that happens. I just don't see it happening because they basically already killed him and brought him back to life in a sense.
01:40:21
Speaker
So I don't see them killing him again. was more interesting in Russia. Yeah. Yeah. Way more interesting. And then back to
01:40:30
Speaker
I don't think anybody's going to die. Not any of the main characters. So my prediction is that Nancy is going to die and I don't want her to die. Um, but and its it has nothing to do with the show, actually. i mean, it does, but, like, they recently announced that there was going to be some kind of, is it, like, a prequel thing? There's, like, a side thing going on for Nancy's character.
01:40:52
Speaker
And I'm, like, why would she be getting, like, a spinoff? Like, apart from this, if it weren't because she ends up dying and they kind of want to just give more attention to her character. I mean, her character has had probably the most growth out of, or at least she's one of the most grown of the bunch when it comes to their characters, you know, throughout the seasons.
01:41:15
Speaker
But I don't know I can kind of see that being the case, especially if they're planning something like that on the side for her. but I don't know. that that's That's my guess. And then Will, just because he's connected to everything.
01:41:29
Speaker
Yeah. I'd be fine with Nancy dying because then the love triangle is over and then maybe maybe Jonathan and Steve can fall in love with each other. don't know. I mean, i was going to say, I think one of those two could die. Yeah. like It's just to break up the triangle. really I think Steve is so hot. Keep him around as long as possible.
01:41:50
Speaker
So I said Will also just because it feels very like Horcrux-y basically. Yeah. Like he might have to die to save Hawkins or whatever. But my other pick is Murray.
01:42:02
Speaker
Okay. Oh, I could see that. I love his character. He's been such good comic relief this whole time. Yeah. Yeah. Robin too. Robin. don't know about Robin. I don't know. robin yeah i'm like i don't know about robin i don't know I don't know. I love what they're doing with her and Will, though.
01:42:21
Speaker
Yeah. But that's what people were saying. They're saying that because they're giving her so much screen time, it might be leading up to like her dying. But I don't think i don't think that's the case. You never know. Yeah.
01:42:35
Speaker
Yeah. No idea. But it's been a strong start. I can't wait to see where it goes. Did you guys talk about the Max reveal when I was getting tickets? Yeah. Briefly. Briefly, but not really. would oh so good.
01:42:47
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. yeah It was a good lead up to it because I didn't know what was coming. Yeah. I knew it wasn't Henry that dropped that message, but I was like, who? Like, who would have done that? Right. Yeah. Yeah.
01:42:58
Speaker
Yeah. That was great storytelling. yeah And then just the last episode, the scope of that whole yeah battle scene was just wild. It was so good. Is this freaking Stranger Things? Pulling all this crazy crap right now? Vecna head kebab? Like, what? That part was insane. That was insane. i was like, whoa! What is this?
01:43:23
Speaker
that is my number one for being in Stranger 5's house at HHN, those fingers better be going through a head. oh they will yeah They will do It's really like a terrifier moment almost. like yeah that was That was insane. I was like, whoa, what the heck is going on here?
01:43:40
Speaker
So one last question on this. Why did Vekta not kill Joyce at the end? He just kind of threw her off to the side when he killed every like soldier that was there.
01:43:51
Speaker
I feel like that's got to be a plot piece. Yeah, I've read some speculation. they did show like the... Where was it that they showed it was in the memories that Max was doing in the memory. You were able to see that like Joyce was there like earlier on. So she definitely like has some importance like going into the story and it might be the reason why Will was chosen in the first place.
01:44:12
Speaker
Yeah. Like yeah Vecna, Henry knows her. So there's something there. I don't know what it is like art today. i don't know. Is that why will I don't know. Wait a second. Because there was ah there was a thing with them in school. Yeah, that's what we're talking about. Yes. Okay, okay, okay, okay. Yeah. um Yeah, interesting.
01:44:37
Speaker
Because I think they were both in the same show. Like, didn't they show a poster and it had Henry's name on it? Who is who's supposed to... we ever learn about Will's dad? No, but that might be what we're getting here. Yeah. I'm saying.
01:44:52
Speaker
Wait, do Will and Jonathan not have the same dad? No, they do. Remember it was in the first season. He was like. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He was like loser guy. Okay. who I got a little. I'm like, please, no.
01:45:03
Speaker
No, no, no, no. Okay. Did you guys have any opinion on why Henry gave Holly a like boom box?
01:45:15
Speaker
I did see online theories about that. Yeah. Would you? I'm not like looking at stuff. Oh. i didnt It's weird, right? Because music is his kryptonite. Yeah, that is interesting. i didn't even think about that. huh i might have to watch these four episodes again.
01:45:35
Speaker
I think I'm going to because I feel like I'm missing stuff because I was yeah so like, yeah, we have time. We have time to do it again. And Tom's going to the finale whether he likes it or not. Does he not watch Stranger Things?
Future Halloween Horror Nights Ideas
01:45:48
Speaker
No, he does. He watches. Oh, okay, okay. But I didn't i didn't discuss it with him. I saw that there were two seats and I took them. It's happening. It's happening.
01:45:59
Speaker
So excited. Cool. Well, more on that to come, I guess, as the rest of the episodes released. We'll talk about that in January. um and Finally, we can't have an episode without a little bit of HHN.
01:46:12
Speaker
um So we created a top five ah wish list for the event in the future. Not necessarily next year, but like what could change about it or what could come to it. That would be interesting.
01:46:24
Speaker
um I guess I'm starting. I don't think that these are any particular order. um But one of my wants is, and this has probably happened in the past, but like an Egyptian or Revenge of the Mummy themed house, I think that would be a really cool theme for house and could have some fun scares in it.
01:46:42
Speaker
I love a cultural house and no hate on the Latin houses. Like I usually really enjoy them. I just, and I know why they do them. Cause there's like a giant Latin population. yeah um But I feel like we're severely lacking any other type of yes cultural house. Yeah.
01:47:01
Speaker
I almost put it on the list, and but I didn't want to steal it. I was listening to another podcast and they mentioned J-horror, which is Japanese horror. It's this whole landscape of horror culture that's completely different. That sounds really interesting to me.
01:47:14
Speaker
Oh, cool. Yeah, that would be really cool. And I feel like we don't get that enough. Like you said, I get the Latin route and I get why they're doing it, but they should tackle, you know, different cultures. I feel like it'd be really different.
01:47:27
Speaker
huh um One of the things, and these are in no particular order, and I've talked about this before, is another music-based house. I loved The Weeknd House a few years ago. And my preferred artist, as I've discussed before, would be Lady Gaga. She leans so horror-y, especially her most recent album. so Yeah. You need a mayhem house. That would be an awesome house.
01:47:48
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. um I would love to see A Sinner's House. Yeah. That was a huge movie this year. It was so good. It's such a good movie. um And I would love to see it in a haunted house. I don't think they'll do it. I feel like if they would have done it, they would have done it this year. But who knows? I mean, considering how popular it was this year and next year being the 35th anniversary of HHN, maybe they'll go big for it by doing it. But um yeah, i would I would love to see Cinder's.
01:48:19
Speaker
Just more shows for me, something to draw some more of the crowd away and to make it so that you don't have to queue 45 minutes before whatever the version of nightmare fuel is going to be this year.
01:48:33
Speaker
Yeah, that would be helpful for sure. Well, I can also say that I put a sinner's house on my list. So I'm right there with you, Rafa. I love that movie. I feel like the music would be so good. They already have so much vampire stuff.
01:48:48
Speaker
Yeah. Make it happen. Yes. And I feel like this would be, it could be done so well in one of the the tents. I feel like this would, so this screams a tent house and it would be so good.
01:49:03
Speaker
Like ah one of the original tents, not even like the new tents. Yes. The original ones. Like that that's perfect for it. Mm-hmm. Yeah. So my next one was a haunted escape room or upcharge immersive experience. um I think for me, this is like some of the things that I liked about like Lehigh Valley Scream Park and some of the other haunted things that we've done are the way that they were able to to do things that you just can't do in the conga line environment of the regular houses. So I think it would be cool if they could do something like this that would be more
01:49:37
Speaker
A way to make it more scary, more immersive feeling, more isolated to a group of people experiencing something than like a larger group. And I think there's a concern about capacity with escape rooms because it's like hard to get lots of people through that. So I see why they wouldn't do that.
01:49:52
Speaker
But I wonder even if like an immersive experience could be where you have a time in like a room and then you move to the next one and then they load more people into that room and you kind of progress through a series of different rooms with different things happening. That could be kind of cool. I don't know. Sounds cool. As long as they don't touch me.
01:50:09
Speaker
Right. Yeah. I would like to, I would like for them to give the spotlight on another icon that isn't Jack. I love Jack.
01:50:20
Speaker
Like, obviously, like they're going to bring him back and he's going to be like the icon of the year. But I just feel like we have so many characters that they've created that I feel like they can do just as well with.
01:50:32
Speaker
You know, i feel like it's always Jack and it's cool. But like, especially now with Jack being like, like the icon for like the Vegas attraction, like, let's try to just like give the spotlight to somebody else and make somebody else as iconic as Jack. Like we got to start somewhere. You know, that's how I kind of feel about it.
01:50:51
Speaker
Like Dr. Oddfellow would be pretty cool to give more attention to maybe bring back the Usher again. That was pretty fun as well. i feel like there's a bunch of characters that can add, you know, some more lore to, you know, overall for the event.
01:51:02
Speaker
Mine's a repeat also, but just another music house. um I think Lady Gaga would be cool. Billie Eilish would be cool. There were rumorings of Snoop Dogg, which would be crazy, but that would be awesome. That would be wild. But I love the weekend houses, so something music related again.
01:51:22
Speaker
My next one was, and this kind of came out of the outdoor, ah well, it was indoor-outdoor, but the outdoor part of like the cornfield maze that we did at Lehigh. I really like that being exposed to the element aspect of it. I understand with HHN that's difficult because it doesn't get dark as early as the event starts, but I still think it would be super cool to have something that's like fully outdoor with HHN level set design.
01:51:48
Speaker
um It just feels like more natural, I guess. I don't know how to explain that. And then I was thinking like of all of the different effects they include inside, they don't really do fire and it would be neat to have like an outdoor house that have fire effects in it because they could take advantage of the safety aspect of being outdoors.
01:52:05
Speaker
Yeah. I said anything wicked. Classic. It's been on the list. ah Yeah. It will remain. Next for me, I put more passion projects, something like along the lines of like WWE. I feel like that was something that I didn't expect to like as much as I ended up liking. um So it was like cool to see something that I wasn't necessarily familiar with. And it you know it made me want to go watch like the documentary and you know do my research. And it was like very interesting. So stuff like that.
01:52:36
Speaker
um Not just something that's random and they're just putting just because it's popular. Like I want something that like I can, you know, I can yeah i could see that there's a lot of passion going into it. Like they're, you know, they they feel very strongly about it. That's what I, you know, i want to see with some of these houses. I want to see something unfamiliar, like something I'm not used to.
01:52:53
Speaker
Yeah, I like that idea. I just said I want to keep the stay-in-stream process the same. i think overall it was a major success this past season. It's less confusing. It's, I would imagine, less labor-intensive for Universal. It's certainly easier for guests. So hopefully they keep it the same way.
01:53:15
Speaker
Yeah, I think that'll be back for sure. um i have the return of the podcasts and the lore that kind of builds up the event before it happens and links between the various things in the park. It's just cool to have that.
01:53:29
Speaker
It builds the hype, really. And then once you're there in the park, you feel like you have a connection to it before you even get there, which is nice. I agree. Yeah, mine is kind of in line with that and also what Rafa said about when he was talking about the icons. I would love more HHN related lore.
01:53:47
Speaker
i I think the podcasts are a great way to do it. Although this past year was maybe my favorite year of HHN for like the houses and and all that it offered. um i think i was most interested in the Oddfellow like theme as an icon is considered. think you know considered i think since I've been going, that's where there was really the most backstory given. And it was the most immersive as far as like being intertwined into the scare zones and everything else. um
01:54:20
Speaker
So more of that. Yeah. And I kind of want them to have like a better food queue set up. I feel like some, food stands were a little more organized than others. Like, I feel like when you grab something to eat over at like the animal actors area, I feel like that's normally pretty organized just because of how open it is. But then like,

the terrifier stands were so annoying like especially at the you know at the in the peak hours like the the line would snake around and you wouldn't even see the end of it because it just goes into the dark and you have no idea where it it ends um so i feel like with areas like that they i would love for them to just organize it a little bit better um just because it's all over the place yeah Staying on the food idea.

Put the twisted taters back on the stick. Why are they in bags? We don't want them in bags. I want a spiral potato on the stick. It's not twisted if it's in a bag. Yeah, they're not twisted. But they weren't that great.

but i didn't even try them this year. i I enjoyed them in They look in the stick. Yeah. Put them on the stick. Yeah. All right. And these are our last ones. um I put down something that's like has pitch black or like body manipulation elements or it's just something that they haven't done before.

That's kind of surprising as you're going through the house. um I think they did that this year with the water effect in Terrifier. And it will be and and to some extent in some of the other houses, there were some like sight gags and and things I hadn't seen before. I'd like them just to try to keep.

Yeah. And I would like to see an it house finally. um i don't think it's going to happen, but especially with stranger things, most likely being there, you know, next year. But after welcome to dairy coming out this year, um like it's kind of back, you know, so I feel like that'd be a pretty strong IP to bring, but I don't think it's to happen, but I would love for them to do it.
