Introduction to the Podcast

00:00:11
Speaker
Hello everybody, welcome back to Thrills, Chills, and Spills, where we spill the tea on all things theme parks, special events, and specially spooky season. I'm Tyler.
00:00:22
Speaker
I'm Joey. I'm Kelly. And I'm Ruffo. As always, we're going to get started with our spills. Joey, you want to go first? Sure.

Joey's Missed Holiday Event

00:00:32
Speaker
So my spill is the follow up from last episode where I was excited to attend the holiday event at Wild Adventures.
00:00:42
Speaker
And unfortunately, it was canceled. um That Friday that I was supposed to go had some pretty rough weather in the forecast. I think it pretty much rained the entirety of the event.
00:00:55
Speaker
All that being said, that that was unfortunate. And I kind of was excited to go to that and check it out for their VIP event. They rescheduled it to a day that I cannot attend that has already passed. um However, I'm considering um going again in the future because I did offer to provide some tickets to attend. um So maybe some more in the future on that, potentially.
00:01:17
Speaker
um But yeah, sad face that it got canceled. Yeah, that's a bummer. Hopefully you can make it back up there at some point. Was that the first year they were doing it or...
00:01:27
Speaker
and No, it's been around for a little bit. I'm not sure what the first year was, um but it looks like it's been around for a minute. And just seeing some of the like video and pictures that just from their social media account, um it actually looks pretty good. Like they look, they have a lot of lights, it seems like. So I'm kind of curious about it. I would like to try to get down there.
00:01:48
Speaker
Yeah, i saw that Dex and Kim were there. It looked pretty nice. Oh, really? i didn't see that. Yeah, they were there. I think they actually made it to the um to like the VIP night or whatever night you were invited to. i think they're going. But it looks really nice. It looked like a nice little event.
00:02:05
Speaker
Yeah, the park is a lot bigger than I thought. I was like looking at it like I think I think I checked like on maps or something. and I'm like, wow, this park is a lot bigger than I thought. Like I've never been, but I didn't think it was that big.
00:02:16
Speaker
Yeah, it's pretty nice-sized park, and the water park kind of spills out into the back, too. Right. Nice. nice Yeah, I've never been either. I have no idea about that park.
00:02:28
Speaker
I think it's better than people say. It's just the roller coasters that aren't great. Yeah, of course. Kelly, who do you have?

Kelly's Minneapolis Weather Woes

00:02:38
Speaker
This past weekend, i along with some of...
00:02:43
Speaker
Us and our friends, we were in Minneapolis and I've been before in like the spring and it was lovely. um And not that it wasn't lovely this weekend, but it was snowy and icy and it had a real feel of negative 26 degrees.
00:03:00
Speaker
Rafa, can you even fathom that? I couldn't. No, i don't think I've been in anything like under like 30. I don't think that's that sounds crazy. So when you go outside and you inhale through your nose, your hair nose hairs freeze.
00:03:15
Speaker
I'm serious. Truly. That's insane. That is insane. And like I had little icicles on my eyelashes. Ooh. Yep. Like it was pretty wild. Wild.
00:03:27
Speaker
why are You would feel it inside of your bones. Why do people choose to live in a place like that? I don't understand. i said that about 10,000 times this weekend. That's crazy. No shade.
00:03:38
Speaker
But like, I mean, the people that live there were saying that too. So I'm like, okay. I also saw the biggest icicles I've ever seen in my entire life.
00:03:50
Speaker
They were human sized. Yeah. That is crazy. Yeah. Yeah. It was like the weirdest rental car lot I've ever seen because all of the cars were like frozen.
00:04:05
Speaker
i was going out to pick one out and just like every single one had frozen water all over them after having gone through the car wash. And then some of them still had the chunks of ice like in the wheel well, you know how it like builds up.
00:04:17
Speaker
It's so funny. I was like, like i need to pick out the car with the least ice on it. It was wild. That's crazy. That is, yeah, I can't imagine that. but I'm still cold. It looked really cold. All the pictures you guys posted, I was like, I don't know about that. Yeah. I wasn't even the library side i wasn't even there, but I was just cold looking at the photos. I know. That's how I felt too.
00:04:43
Speaker
Oof.
00:04:46
Speaker
Rafa, you have a spill? um Yeah.

Rafa's Vampire Circus Job Experience

00:04:49
Speaker
So, okay. So my spill kind of goes into the event that I went to, which wasn't great, but we'll go into that in a moment. But um when I got to the event, I noticed that there were people wearing these shirts that said, um like it had a logo that said Vampire Circus on it.
00:05:10
Speaker
And to give you guys a little backstory on that. So my first job, I was a I was an usher at this circus called the Vampire Circus. That was my first job ever. I was 17 years old. it It was located like somewhere in downtown Miami. That was my first job.
00:05:26
Speaker
And um I hated the ownership. I feel like they were the rudest people, the people that ran the event. Like, they were awful. And I'm only saying that because, spoiler alert, the event sucked. So, yeah. So, this truly is me spilling the tea. So, I used to work with these people. They were super rude.
00:05:43
Speaker
and they just were not like, they were getting mad over everything. First off, on my first day there, they had me working in a box office where like basically were not prepared and they had like a huge mob of people outside and i'm over here like 17 year old me i had no idea what to do first job ever i had no clue what to do and we had like mobs of people waiting for tickets that they never got so they were just like giving empty promises to a bunch of media outlets and all these things so that was a mess and then
00:06:18
Speaker
they Just the way that they ran everything was just very, it was very poorly done. um The quality of the show itself and the experience seemed pretty cool. I mean, by what I saw while I was working, but they they were awful.
00:06:31
Speaker
they They were just an awful company. But yeah, that's my little tea of the week um that i used to work for these people. And I had no idea until I got there and I saw these shirts. um but ah But yeah, like I said, the event wasn't good. And we'll we'll go into that in a second.
00:06:48
Speaker
All right, well, it's been a second, so that takes us into... Okay, so yeah, so there really isn't much to share. There truly isn't much a share on this event. It looked cool though, honestly. It looked really cool.
00:07:02
Speaker
it's Okay, so yeah, the few things that I sent were probably the only cool things about it. um but I'll go into the day. So basically, before we're getting there, we actually took a recommendation from one of our friends, Perry, who I don't think they listen to the podcast, but but he um he recommended this really good pizza spot in downtown Miami. It's called Miami Slice, which was very good. So we checked that out first.
00:07:30
Speaker
um We tried the pepperoni and hot honey drizzle pizza, as well as a vodka sauce and pesto pizza, which was delicious as well, and a truffle pizza, ah mush ah mushroom and truffle pizza. So that was really good.
00:07:46
Speaker
Um, so we

Jungle Island's Disappointing Holiday Event

00:07:48
Speaker
went there. Then after that, we went over to the event. Um, I wish we would stayed and ate more pizza cause the event sucked, but we get there. And what I found to be weird was that not weird, but I thought of it differently. Um, when I purchased the tickets, it, they make you pick a time slot.
00:08:07
Speaker
So they tell you, do you want to come from seven to eight or eight to nine, nine to 10? It was every hour. for the four hours or five hours that the event was was open for. um So at first I was just thinking, okay, maybe they're just, you know, setting up these times, like just to spread out the crowds, especially with how small the event was.
00:08:29
Speaker
um When we got there, we realized that it's, you know, this is actually located in Jungle Island um in downtown Miami, and they actually have two events going on right now.
00:08:39
Speaker
So, which I was unaware of. I thought they were doing it like at different times of the month. I thought maybe the Krampus stuff was going on in the first half of December. And then the other event was going on in the second half, but they were both going on at the same time.
00:08:52
Speaker
um So i was like, maybe they're just trying to, you know, minimize the crowds, you know, I guess to manage that better. But that was not the case. It was like that because the event itself was like a 30 minute experience and about 20 minutes was waiting in line.
00:09:11
Speaker
So the actual haunt itself was 10 minutes. um So to start off, what was very weird um when you get there, ah first off, we took a picture with the actors that they had at the front and they were like tapping us with their props. and it was like really weird. And we're like, okay, why are they touching us with their props? But whatever, we kind of just brushed that off. But then we enter and they have us go into this Creepy little like it almost looks like a gymnasium kind of building. It was like a very weird room they had us go into.
00:09:44
Speaker
And then they had everybody like just scattered around signing waivers. The waiver was basically just saying that if you are to injure yourself or they touch you, you can't do anything about it. um Which I thought was weird because I'm like, OK, what kind of experience is this?
00:10:00
Speaker
um But whatever we go in and basically the experience is split into two haunted houses. um don't know what the Krampus theme is all about, honestly, because it just seemed like a bunch of different rooms where people are dressed up in like your typical Christmas attire and just with added blood and and like creepy props. Like you could tell it they grabbed some of the Halloween props that they had, you know, for the haunt season and they just added like, you know, the blood and, you know, like the webs and they added stuff to it.
00:10:34
Speaker
um And then they added like a Christmas hat on it to just make it look Christmassy. ah So, yeah, it just it just looks like it was it just felt like an obvious cash grab, which I expected. I mean, that's how a lot of our events are down here. But um but yeah, after you enter there, you have a couple of rooms that you enter through.
00:10:55
Speaker
I feel like the waivers come into play at the halfway point because once you complete one house, you're kind of walking in this very like wet path to get to the next house.
00:11:06
Speaker
um It's like it's like I feel like it's because they don't use like regular fog. They use like mist machines and stuff like that. So the floor was the ground was very wet as you're going from house to house.
00:11:18
Speaker
um So I feel like that's maybe the reason why they have you fill those out. Is this indoor? This was all outdoor. Okay. Yeah, so this is all outdoor. I mean, there were portions in which they were indoor, that they were indoors, but for the most part, it was outside.
00:11:33
Speaker
um But what else? Honestly, once you go through those two houses, you're done in like 10 minutes. And then they have like the saddest little booths, like with drinks, which they don't even like, like you just had people standing there with like an iPad in front of them, but you had like no menu to look at.
00:11:53
Speaker
Like, and like there was nothing there. Like it was probably all QR code, you know, stuff like where you scan with your phone, but I didn't see anything. We weren't interested. we were very unhappy with the experience. So we're like, all right, we're out of here. Like we're not going to even look at the drinks or the food options.
00:12:09
Speaker
um But yeah, I mean, honestly, that was pretty much it. There wasn't much to it. It was just, it was very, I mean, what I do like is that,
00:12:20
Speaker
The scares were there um for some things. I mean, they probably got me more than they would have for you guys. You guys know how I am, but but it's still, I don't know. I just feel like it was very, it was a very awkward event considering how small it is and um and it's overpriced. It was nearly, it was about $38 per person.
00:12:43
Speaker
And then on top of that, you're paying, i believe $30 for parking. Yeah. So it's, it's pretty expensive for what you're getting out of it it. and just, it was not worth it at all, at all. And this is being advertised how?
00:13:00
Speaker
So they just, they're advertising it as a, like a, cause okay. Cause it's ran by an, by a, like the people that run our yearly Halloween event, it's called horror land. Yeah. So they're calling it an experience.
00:13:17
Speaker
um But the thing that Jungle Island is such a big park and i was expecting there to be more space used. Like I felt like I didn't know that it was going to be like you enter a haunted house and then you have like an awkward walkway to get to the next house. And then that's it. You, it leads you directly to the exit of the park. I thought that maybe there would be like some areas where you can have like actors walking around, maybe more food options, more drink options, but there was none of that. Like it was just, it was just the two haunted houses that you walk through, which you can get through pretty quickly.
00:13:52
Speaker
And then that's it. So pretty much the time slots that you're picking, you know, when you're purchasing the tickets or the time slots in which you're going to complete the, the entire experience. So did they just pretty much keep the Halloween haunt and just put Christmas com costumes on and that was it? I think so. i mean, I wish I could compare the two because i didn't attend the Halloween event. um And i don't know, I was maybe expecting a little bit more because some of there were a couple of locals that i we spoke to and when we were waiting in line to get in. They were like, oh, my God. Yeah. Horrorland. Like, they're so great during the Halloween season.
00:14:30
Speaker
um like they you know it's so good like it's a great experience and you know they were raving about it and when we went in we were kind of like okay like that was it like i don't know that that's just me being a spooky bitch and me being a little more familiar with like other things like other like spooky and you know haunts or whatever but yeah this was just like it just awkwardly short so yeah yeah yeah but at least it's something spooky in december Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it was, it was fun. it was to look, it was fun to look forward to. Right. And you, the few jump scares that I got were worth it. But, but besides that, it just kind of sucked. It was also a pretty bad time to go downtown because that weekend was the weekend of Art Basel, which had the streets so crowded. Like it took us almost two hours just to get home. Like that's how bad the traffic was.
00:15:26
Speaker
um So it just it I think all of that taken into consideration just made me way more pissed off. And I was just like, what a waste of time. Yeah. But whatever it is, what it is. i know not to go back. I mean, yeah I mean, if they if I do, I hope that they expand on it. I feel like like I said, the park is really big and I don't think that they should just like it's it's awkward that they have two events going on at the same time. where they're kind of sharing the space. And it's very obvious that the other event, the other event is called um Luminosa. So it's like, it's like a Chinese lantern kind of event, which probably should have checked that out because it seems like they get more of the park because it's more, you know, family friendly.
00:16:11
Speaker
um But yeah, i don't know if it's, if it's as short as it was this year, I don't see myself going back. Yeah. At least you did it once and you can say you did it.
00:16:22
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, and I was about to drive up to Georgia and go to wild adventures for that event. So, and that wouldn't have been so, so great considering that it was canceled.
00:16:33
Speaker
um so it is what it is, but I can say that i tried it. Yeah, for sure.

Hershey Park Holiday Critique

00:16:42
Speaker
Well, we have one more event that we attended the holiday event at Hershey park. I was there, Kelly and her kids, as well as Tom from the Drunk Riders.
00:16:55
Speaker
Kelly, what'd you think? um So I've been going to Hershey's winter event. I've gone many times. I think it's called Christmas Candy Lane. um I wish that I could be more positive in my report, but I feel like, I don't know if I'm just getting more critical of these events as I go to more of them or if it's truly declining in its quality, but it kind of felt like a bummer to me and it was a bummer last year as well.
00:17:25
Speaker
Um, so I think the biggest thing to me, and I know some of this is probably like relates to their staffing, but they, it just feels like the effort is like lacking. Like it just feels lazy. Of course you don't expect every coaster to be open during winter events. Many of the, the more Northern parks that have events don't operate with their full, you know, array of rides open, but I feel like there has to be more of a variety, I guess. I don't know. Like for example,
00:18:07
Speaker
Um, my son is just barely 48 inches. It depends on what shoes he's wearing and what park he's at. He's ridden 48 inch height requirement coasters at Dorney and at Knoebels, but he was not making it or he was making it on some signs at Hershey, but he tried to ride wild mouse, which is 48 inches. And the person at the entrance told him he was tall enough, but the platform person told him he wasn't after they had already waited. So that was very frustrating for him. So really the only thing that he could ride was laugh track because everything ah else that was open was for 48 and above.
00:18:44
Speaker
um So that's frustrating for families. Obviously they have a lot of their little kitty rides open, but that like middle ground child is like way too big for those rides. So it kind of is a bummer for that age group. First off as my first complaint.
00:18:59
Speaker
Second, I remember when I was younger, just being in awe of all of the lights that they had at Hershey. And maybe it was just my perspective is different, but it really feels like it's lazily done. Like they throw a blanket of lights onto the ground and wrap a tree about three feet up from the base and then stop.
00:19:19
Speaker
And that's their decor. And there's no like rhyme or reason ah to what colors or where it's just kind of like, let's just throw up these lights and make it lit up here and like I ah just it just doesn't feel well done. They do have a Santa and a little reindeer thing that we didn't do this year. I've done it in the past. That is really cute and it's a nice touch but otherwise it didn't really feel like there was anything special seasonal other than the lazily done lights. I will say during the daytime, because we were there for most of the day, the crowds were a lot lighter than I'd experienced at Hershey, like the rest of the entire season. So that was nice.
00:19:58
Speaker
It definitely got more crowded as like the day went on. And because there's so little things to do, it makes it like the desire to wait for things go down. um I would say also we saw a new show, their singular Christmas show,
00:20:17
Speaker
And Tyler and Tom were both sleeping. so it was a great show you know they were on like either end of our row and then like the kids were next to them and i was in the middle and i had like my arms are around the kids and ben was starting to nod out and i look over at amelia and she's just glassed face and then she got she whispers to me everyone else is sleeping and i like look both ways i'm like okay yep um The show looks like it was put on by the local um like musical theater majors. Maybe like Penn State stole them or like took a little handful of them said, who wants to do this show at Hershey? Because, you know, Hershey is part of Penn State and they showed up and did.
00:21:08
Speaker
a very musical theater adaptation of a very corny Christmas story. And it was, there was some talent, but i would not return.
00:21:23
Speaker
oh no. What else? didn't I did eat one thing. It was a giant s'more, but then instead of graham crackers, it was massive cookies.
00:21:36
Speaker
I ate mine and the remnants of my children's and really wanted to get hot chocolate, but I was so full and felt disgusting that I couldn't even muster up the energy to do it.
00:21:47
Speaker
That's all.
00:21:50
Speaker
Yeah, the show was weird. the The talent was fine. It's... I guess kind of what I would expect. The set wasn't very good.
00:22:01
Speaker
i don't even remember that. It was so boring. Like there was nothing to it. It was very cheesy and not in a good way. Yeah.
00:22:12
Speaker
It was good to be in the heat for 30 minutes. That was the best part because it was freezing that day. It wasn't Minneapolis freezing, but yeah it was pretty cold for me. um Yeah, the the event's not good.
00:22:25
Speaker
The only reason it works is because Hershey is just already a good park. So the event can only bad. Which another reason to visit. Yeah. You know, we got on Wildcats. It was running so slow, which to be expected, we got some of the first rides of the day.
00:22:46
Speaker
um Shout out to the overlay at Laugh Track, though. Oh, no. It was, um what was it called? Shackalicious? Shackalicious. Yes. So I was excited because they do Christmas lights in the ride. And I was like, oh, the Christmas overlay. Like, I haven't done that in a couple of years. We get in there and it's shackalicious. Like, Shaq's face, Shaq's voice.
00:23:11
Speaker
My kids are like... What the heck this? They even know who Shaq is. why Why would they keep that overlay for Christmas? Well, so it was Shaqalicious, but it was also Christmas. Shaquille O'Neal was on the like, every 30 seconds he would go, ho, ho, ho. Oh, yeah. It was so weird. No. It was so weird. Yeah, it was bizarre.
00:23:36
Speaker
I can't with that. Yeah. Yeah. It was weird. Yep. Very weird. And then candemonium was closed when we got in. So we were like, oh, you know, it must be down for the temperature. It's not going to open today. Because I think it was like high 30s when we got in. And that was kind of the peak of the day.
00:23:54
Speaker
But then it opened up later on when it got even colder. so that was weird because I thought B&Ms couldn't run in under 40. Who knows?
00:24:05
Speaker
Who knows what happened? But and it was an elite candemonium ride. That actually, yeah, that honestly was the best ride on there that I've ever gotten because the trims were barely touching. So, yeah, I really enjoyed it.
00:24:18
Speaker
I'm not going to get on the one of the best hypers train, but it was good. And then we went to Chocolate World and did the little ride there, which I think they had a like a Christmas song or something, right?
00:24:36
Speaker
Yeah, it was like a total Christmas overlay. Yeah, that line was so long. I've never waited more than like three minutes for that ride. We waited like probably over 30, which was crazy. And not only that, it was like 90 degrees.
00:24:51
Speaker
Yeah, it was so long. So we're bundled up and everyone's taking off their coats and I'm just holding all the coats. So I'm still sweating, you know, mom life. It went from 20 to 90 real quick.
00:25:06
Speaker
And we went to Primanti Bros, and that was not good. Have you guys been there before, or have you heard of it? Yeah. It's like, and I guess, somewhat famous place out of Pittsburgh.
00:25:22
Speaker
And then they've since expanded to lots of places in Pennsylvania. But yeah, I went before and I thought it was mid, but I hear everybody talking about it. So i was like, let's, let's go and I'll give it another shot. And no, it was just as bad. So.
00:25:37
Speaker
worse I think worse worse than my first time yeah yeah so overall I mean if you're in the area and want a couple coaster rides then go to Hershey Park but if you want a good Christmas event then go somewhere else It's unfortunate because we used to have Great Adventures Christmas event too nearby, which not that that was anything spectacular, but it was an option. you know They're just dwindling.
00:26:09
Speaker
ye But it is what it is. yeah that that kind of like lack of competition is frustrating because that that what means Hershey can just trot along and not put any effort into it because they're like, we're the only place that's doing this.
00:26:27
Speaker
Yeah, so they can get away with it. Yeah, yeah. It's kind of frustrating. But, oh well. Yeah. All right. so we did put together a quick little holiday movie bracket that we want to do.

Holiday Movie Bracket Introduction

00:26:45
Speaker
And this is probably going to hurt a lot of feelings because have some strong opinions. And also... The way it's like seated is probably not the best, but I just like randomly seated it. So it's probably going to be some good movies going out at the beginning, but should i just like read what all the matchups are first?
00:27:08
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. All right. So we have, we have 20 movies and we have three little ah play in games. We'll call them. So the play in ones are Muppets Christmas Carol versus Scrooged.
00:27:24
Speaker
It's a Wonderful Life versus Claws. A Christmas Carol versus Krampus. So then once we get those play-in games, we're going to have Elf versus the winner of Muppets Christmas Carol and Scrooged.
00:27:40
Speaker
We have Die Hard versus Terrifier 3. I had to put Terrifier in there, guys. Year Without a Santa Claus versus National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
00:27:52
Speaker
A Christmas Story versus Frosty the Snowman. The Polar Express versus It's Wonderful Life or Claws, whichever wins. We have Home Alone versus a Charlie Brown Christmas.
00:28:06
Speaker
We have Grinch, which I did the Jim Carrey version, the live action version. And that's going to be against the winner of A Christmas Carol and Krampus. And then we have Christmas with the Cranks versus Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
00:28:23
Speaker
Y'all are about to see how few movies I've seen. Yeah. I think I only missed a few of these. Maybe two of them. right All right let's do it right. All right. do How are we going to handle a tie?
00:28:38
Speaker
oh Fight. Okay. Yeah, we didn't think about that, did we? We'll figure it out. All right. First matchup in the play-in game, we have Muppets Christmas Carol versus Scrooged.
00:28:54
Speaker
Um, I have not seen Scrooged, honestly. Yeah, I don't remember that one. Me neither, so I vote for the Muppets by default. Okay, here we go. i haven't seen Scrooged, but I have a personal ick against the Muppets, so I'm voting for Scrooged.
00:29:13
Speaker
Ugh! I hate it. I hate the sound of Miss Piggy. It makes me want to just, like... You're so wrong. Miss Piggy is the ultimate diva. Ugh! No, I don't like it. And the fact that like Muppet is taking over Rockin' Roller Coaster makes me want to never ride that ever again in my entire life. Oh my gosh.
00:29:36
Speaker
I don't like the Muppets either. The only thing I know about Scrooge is that Billy on the Street interview when he's like yelling at that lady, he's like, you haven't seen Scrooge? oh you go yeah all of you No let's go. I
00:29:52
Speaker
o I vote Scrooged. Damn, because I was going to say Muppets. Uh-oh. Okay, we already have a tie. what's our How do we tie break?
00:30:03
Speaker
Should I call Tom in? Has he seen them? Sure. Maybe. Drum roll, please. Would you like to break some of our tie breakers?
00:30:15
Speaker
We're doing a movie bracket, a Christmas movie bracket. Yeah, you're already wrong because you pooped on the Muppets, but go ahead. Oh.
00:30:24
Speaker
I think we know which direction this is going. The first one. Yeah, Muppets immediately. Okay, I guess it's Muppets. There we go. right, next play in we have It's a Wonderful Life or Claws.
00:30:38
Speaker
I have not seen Claws. I looked it up. It's supposed to be really good. It's from 2019, but I don't know anything about it. Which one is that one? Let me see.
00:30:50
Speaker
Oh, I haven't seen that. It's a Wonderful Life. Same. Same. Yeah. It was going to win anyway for me. like Between those two. I'm good with that. Okay, cool. ah Last play in, we have A Christmas Carol or Krampus. Two very different movies.
00:31:07
Speaker
I haven't seen Krampus. What? Krampus is so fun. I haven't seen it. Unless you go to a Miami event. Not that one. not that really You really talked Nothing like the movie. but I vote for Krampus.
00:31:29
Speaker
I vote for Christmas Carol. Same. By default. I just know the story. What movie?
00:31:39
Speaker
A Christmas Carol. Is there more than one version? Pretty sure there is, yeah. There's like a Jim Carrey one. And there's like an old Michael Caine one, I think.
00:31:50
Speaker
There's a Jim Carrey Christmas Carol? Yeah. It sure is. Yeah. Yeah. oh Oh. Is this the classic one then? Take the average of those two movies and that's... your mention I just like the story of A Christmas Carol. Yeah, I do too. But haven't seen Christmas,
00:32:10
Speaker
Do we need Tom, Joseph? i would probably Well, I haven't seen either these, or if I have, it's been so long that I don't know. I'm i'm tempted to say Krampus just because a Christmas Carol is wildly overdone, especially in the regional theater circuit.
00:32:25
Speaker
um But the movie is probably fine, so I'm good with that. Christmas Carol? Yeah. Okay. Alright, next we have Elf.
00:32:38
Speaker
versus Muppets Christmas Carol. Elf. Elf. Elf. Easy. and didn't we We didn't even eat Tom for that, honestly. It was going to... I feel like either of those movies... It didn't even make it. All right.
00:32:53
Speaker
Die Hard versus Terrifier 3. Art the Clown every time. Yeah. I also have not seen Die Hard. was going to say Die Hard. Save him.
00:33:04
Speaker
I mean, neither these are Christmas movies, but spooky, so Terrifier. who I was getting nervous we would have to ask Tom but he would never say Terrifier 3. No he wouldn't. Especially Terrifier 3.
00:33:16
Speaker
He saw 10 seconds of that movie and he was out of there. and He was like that's enough. Alright. Year Without a Santa Claus versus National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
00:33:30
Speaker
a Year Without a Santa Claus. yeah Yes. yeah that pan claus I don't even want the words to come out of your mouth right now. I don't think I've seen it I'm Mr. Heatmiser.
00:33:41
Speaker
Heatmiser and Snowmiser? oh my gosh. I know the characters, but I don't know if I've seen the actual movie. That is unexcusable. It's a classic.
00:33:53
Speaker
Rankin-Bass, just classic stop motion. guys already all said it anyway, so that's what we got. My mom would disown me if I didn't pick that. Same. Same.
00:34:07
Speaker
right, next matchup. A Christmas Story versus Frosty the Snowman.
00:34:13
Speaker
Christmas Story? who Yeah, A Christmas Story.
00:34:21
Speaker
A Christmas Story? yeah We have that on well, you know how they have the 24-7 marathon? We have that on the whole time. Christmas Eve. Yeah, Christmas Eve, 6 p.m. to Christmas Day, 6 p.m. That's like the background the entire time.
00:34:35
Speaker
I actually did ah the lighting design for A Christmas Story, the musical. Sick. I'm good with that one though. Frosty is one of my least favorite of the Rankin-Bass ones. So I'm good with Christmas Story.
00:34:49
Speaker
Okay. um Next we have The Polar Express versus... yes What we say? It's A Wonderful Life? Yeah. Wonderful Life. Yeah.
00:35:02
Speaker
I'm going Polar Express. The soundtrack is... peak it really is yeah polar express i know that the animation is kind of creepy but like i was gonna say i hate the animation so much on that movie i don't even think i've watched the whole movie but i really like the music i would vote for it's a wonderful life i'm gonna vote for it's a wonderful life i've never seen it i hate it i don't i don't hate it but i really hate the animation of it like i hate the way it looks like it's not a bad movie
00:35:36
Speaker
The animation is so creepy. It's the most overrated Christmas movie of all time. No, I hate a little little girl The little girl where she's hunched over. You know what I'm talking about? The annoying like nerdy guy. What's wrong with him? Why does Tom Hanks play every single character?
00:35:56
Speaker
Wow. You just hate trains. ah As a rollercoaster enthusiast, I can't hate trains. my gosh, I'm Minneapolis and you see asthma.
00:36:07
Speaker
Oh, that is so funny. Tom says, Wonderful Life is one of the best films ever made. Let's go. Never seen it, but as long as beats Polar Express.
00:36:18
Speaker
Okay.
00:36:21
Speaker
Oh, I have strong feelings on the next one. Let's go. That's basically my spill is how much I hate Polar Express. Okay.
00:36:33
Speaker
Okay. Home Alone versus a Charlie Brown Christmas. Home Alone, right? alone alone um really Are you that passionate about Charlie Brown? If I hear another Peanuts song play during a Christmas event at a park, I'm going to lose it. I'm going to...
00:36:59
Speaker
ah Tom just said Charlie Brown don't even bother asking me too bad nobody wants to vote for that literally no it's all alone it's all alone alright next we have Grinch versus a Christmas Carol grinched Grinch Grinch Grinch for sure we have special special Grinch connection in this household we love Grinch oh my gosh
00:37:33
Speaker
They're getting along now. if you know, you know. Yeah, that's good. Yep. and Christmas with the Cranks versus Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
00:37:46
Speaker
Rudolph for me. Same. I like Christmas with the Cranks. That's a good movie. So do I, but I'm okay with either one of them, honestly. Tom, if you can hear me, save my fingers. Christmas with the Cranks or Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer?
00:38:04
Speaker
Rudolph. the LFG. Shay just texted me. She's like, are you guys watching? Are you guys talking about Christmas movies? Yes.
00:38:15
Speaker
She was like, you guys aren't going to mention Twilight. Man, get out of here. ah What?
00:38:23
Speaker
Are there people that think that's a Christmas movie? I don't think she thinks that. I think she's just messing around. No, no, no. Maybe. Maybe. so just in case sparkle doesn't mean it's Christmas.
00:38:37
Speaker
While Tyler's doing this, if you are Buzzed Bars member on Friday, December 19th, please cast your vote for us for podcast of the year.
00:38:50
Speaker
Hell yeah. Okay, I got it. I preemptively put Polar Express because I thought my opinion would be vetoed, but it was not. So, all right. So our we'll call it the semifinals. We have Elf versus Terrifier 3, Year Without a Santa Claus versus A Christmas Story, It's a Wonderful Life versus Home Alone, and Grinch versus Rudolph.
00:39:16
Speaker
Easy. Those are some pretty good matchups, though. They are good matchups. They are good matchups. Yeah. All right. So Elf versus Terrifier. Elf.
00:39:28
Speaker
Elf. Elf. Kelly. Come on ah I do love a Will Ferrell movie, but like nothing is better than Terrifier.
00:39:42
Speaker
A lot is better than Terrifier. He wasn't even that good. I know. We're not talking we're not voting Arthur Clown. We're voting Terrifier 3, the movie. You're right. I'm fine. All right.
00:39:56
Speaker
Year without a Santa Claus versus a Christmas story. year without a santa claus hundred Year without a Santa Claus. A Christmas story.
00:40:07
Speaker
Okay. I guess I have to watch this movie now. Yes, you do. tomorrow Report back. Is it streaming? Maybe I will. Probably. i hope so.
00:40:20
Speaker
It's December. Yeah. It's a wonderful life versus Home Alone. Home Alone. i was going to say it's a wonderful life. Home Alone. wrong Okay, three versus one. Home Alone.
00:40:35
Speaker
It's okay. okay Depressing. All right. Last one for this round. Grinch versus Rudolph. Grinch. Grinch.
00:40:47
Speaker
Grinch. Okay. Kelly is nodding. She shakes her head yes. right. Elf versus Year with a Santa Claus. Elf. You're without a Santa Claus.
00:41:00
Speaker
You're without a Santa Claus. You're without a Santa Claus. All right, we got a tiebreaker again. Thomas?
00:41:11
Speaker
I know what he's going to say. tom Actually, I don't know for sure, but I think I do. I thought three of us just voted for... That's what i thought. Yeah, I really want to say Elf.
00:41:23
Speaker
No, I said Elf. Oh, you did? oh okay. thought you were saying... Okay, I thought you said the other one. Tom said, he Year Without a Santa Claus is number one. i knew it. Man. He knows. He knows.
00:41:36
Speaker
h He is Heatmiser. I'm sure this one is... This is tough.
00:41:50
Speaker
Home Alone or Grinch? It's Grinch for me. I think I have to say Home Alone. This one is tough. I mean, they're both like classic Christmas films to me.
00:42:06
Speaker
And I feel like, I don't know, they're on such a similar level in my brain right now. Yeah, I feel like Home Alone is a little bit more classic. It's definitely more classic. It is. Yeah. but But I also like Grinch. Grinch is more Christmassy. So I don't know. Carrey.
00:42:25
Speaker
So good. Cue it up, Tom. I think i'm going to go with Grinch. Okay. feel like March Madness. This going to make so people angry.
00:42:40
Speaker
It's like March Madness with my bracket getting busted.
00:42:47
Speaker
all right. So that gives us Year Without a Santa Claus versus Grinch for the

Final Movie Matchup and Audience Vote

00:42:54
Speaker
finals. This is actually horrible. like I mean, it's a no-brainer for me. It's Grinch. That wasn't going to be choice before, but it's my choice now. It's Grinch for me.
00:43:07
Speaker
I feel like i can't not say Year Without a Santa Claus. Kelly is scrunching her face up.
00:43:19
Speaker
I think it's Year Without a Santa Claus. Oh, No.
00:43:28
Speaker
Is it still number one? See above. see See above. ah Oh, I hate having a tiebreaker for the last one. i know. Let us know, everyone. Grinch, Jim Carrey, or you're Without of Santa Claus. and if Maybe we should just put that to a vote on Instagram or something. Let's throw that out there into the world and see what people think. Because we're split. I like that.
00:43:54
Speaker
And we can let our audience decide the final winner. And honestly, I would be happy with either winning. Yeah. Neither of those make me mad. very much Unlike Polar Express. Can you imagine if Polar Express made it?
00:44:11
Speaker
Tyler would be losing it right now. i would. that We took that onto a public boat. We have to alert Scott, not Don, um that Tyler has passion about something in this episode.
00:44:25
Speaker
Because what he is gets very excited when you have emotion. Do I not? Am I not going to ask about anything? we were We were talking about it this weekend. He was very excited about your Stranger Things passion.
00:44:40
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, that should have been my spill. Hold on. We need to talk about that. So... Speaking of which, if if we have anybody on the Stranger Things review, it has to be Scott. He watched every single season for the first time in three days. He saw it so... He watched everything so quickly. That's what talking about.
00:45:00
Speaker
Imagine! texted me... He texted me and he was like, I've never seen Stranger Things, but I hear you like it a lot. Like, should I watch it? Do it do you think I'll like it?
00:45:12
Speaker
was like, yeah, man, I love it. It's one of my favorite shows. I think you'll like it. He's like, okay, I'll give it a try. He then watched every single episode in existence in like four days.
00:45:25
Speaker
For the first time. For the first time ever. And like, I was getting like live texts about it it. was amazing. and i up not so I hope I'm not saying too much here, Scott.
00:45:38
Speaker
Love you, Scott. But this man is telling me so passionately that this is his favorite show of all time. He laughed. He cried. He sobbed. It's all he thinks about. And it's all he's sending me every Instagram interview or theory about about Stranger Things and I think you are but I haven't opened up He's being real about it too because he was like texting me about it like early in the morning which I know obviously because of the time difference I'm like you are pulling all nighters to watch this show fully he couldn't stop so is like he's he's in it yeah I wake up for work at like 5 15
00:46:23
Speaker
And I saw a text from him the night before, and I texted him back at like six

Scott's Stranger Things Binge

00:46:27
Speaker
something. And he immediately texted me back, which means he's watching it at like three something California time. Crazy. Oh my goodness. Still of you, our biggest fan. Scott John, that's a skill issue because the smart play would have been to time that out just so you finish right before the next batch releases because now he's got to wait.
00:46:47
Speaker
Exactly. Just like the rest of us, but worse. Yeah. That was his plan, but he just got so into it. He could not stop. Oh, no. Amazing. Amazing. We love you, Scott. Come talk Stranger Things with us in January. It's going to be so good.
00:47:04
Speaker
Hopefully you're caught up on sleep by now.
00:47:08
Speaker
Yeah. That man knows how to rally. He rolled into my room fresh as a brand new bright day on Sunday, Saturday morning.
00:47:20
Speaker
He's a rallier.
00:47:25
Speaker

00:48:56
Speaker
We normally get one during Christmas time. So we seem to be getting one soon. Last year we did. Did you hear Tyler just lose his passion? Passion has left the building.
00:49:08
Speaker
Polar Express. but Maybe that's what we should say if he sounds too bored. Just the color express. Oh, that was nice. That was nice. ASMR.
00:49:21
Speaker
Ew, no. I hate ASMR.
00:49:27
Speaker
It's gross. If anybody would like an ASMR episode of Thrills, Chills, and Spills, let us know. my gosh. Yeah, I won't be there. It'll be them three recording. And if you i will do want one let us know. Do you prefer Whisper?
00:49:42
Speaker
Or
00:49:48
Speaker
like soft spoken ASMR, let us know. Do you like taps? Do you like crinkles? Do you like- I can do that. scratching? no I love that we found something to annoy Tyler, just like how I got annoyed by the beach balls. Now we can use this against you. If you like ASMR, then unfollow. No, I don't like it. i don't like it van name I'm just saying the rage that you're getting out of this is hilarious.
00:50:14
Speaker
I will watch the floor. What's that? Oh my gosh. What are you doing? No.
00:50:21
Speaker
ah I will watch 24 hours of the Polar Express before I listen to an hour
00:50:34
Speaker
If I had the in-stream button, then I would have already hit it. But unfortunately, Kelly has it. This is
00:50:42
Speaker
so unhinged. perfect way to end okay okay all the last song the stuff happy holidays yay bye bye that's tea actually
