All right, everyone, you're very, very welcome to the pen ultimate episode in Discipleship, series two on Jesus in the Old Testament, specifically looking at Jesus and the book of the major prophets, who are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel.
Unique Relationship with God

So, and open this teaching the same way I think I've opened all of them up to this point, which is Jesus talking in John 1.18 and also in John 6.46, in which he said, no one has ever seen God. This is God the Father he's talking about, but the one and only Son, who is himself God.

And is in closest relationship with the Father. Has made him known. You know this is interesting. thing for I don't know why you people tell lies through the Bible. But i I grew up hearing people say. Jesus never once called himself God.

And I'm like. John 1.18 people. But here Jesus is saying. That by that stage in history. When he was walking on the earth. No one had ever seen God the Father.

With the exception of the Son. Today, you can see God the Father, and because Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life that has made access to the Father.

But by that stage, nobody had. In John 6, 46, very similar, no one has seen the Father except he who is from God, speaking about himself, he has seen the Father.

So when you're looking at the Old Testament and so-and-so has a dream of God, so-and-so was walking in a garden with God, so-and-so sees God at the foot of their bed, so-and-so sees God on a lapis lazuli throne with

wheels. it's it's like a chariot. It's a flying chair and flying through the sky.

All of these instances are what are called Christophanies. That's what theologians say, okay? Christophanies. Which is Christ plus Theophany. So an appearance of Christ before Mary ever got pregnant.

So often people have this idea that God the Father it was in operation for the all of the Old Testament. Jesus wasn't really all that bothered.

And then after 4,000 years of history history said, astrolog, might as well do something. No. Jesus has always intrinsically, intimately been involved in affairs on the earth.
Isaiah's Vision and Prophecies

I'll be reading a lot of scripture tonight because, I'll be honest, some of these are just so, so good. um There's no point flicking over them. So Isaiah is our first major prophet today.

And we're going to quote chapter six, verses one to 13.

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord. Now, again, no one had ever seen God, the Father. This is Old Testament. So who is the Lord? It's Jesus.

I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple.

So we looked at the temple of God before, built in Jerusalem and by King Solomon.

The king's dead, Isaiah's in the temple, and next thing the Lord just appears on a throne in that temple and his robe fills the entire room. Above him were seraphs.

Some Bible verse say seraphim, it's the same thing. Each with six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.

The word seraphim in Hebrew literally means two things. A flying snake and a fiery or phil flaming snake. So these are supernatural creatures that to the human eye would look like snakes.

They're on fire and they have wings. They're not in pain. They're not hurt. They're not screaming. oh It's just how they look because it's heaven.

And heaven's a supernatural world and things can look how however where God wants them to look.

And they were calling to one another. They're having a conversation. This is their conversation. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty.

At the sound of their voices, the doorposts and the threshold shook and the temple was filled with smoke. "'Woe to me!' isaiah cried.

Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, a fiery stone, a revelation stone, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.

So there was an altar in the temple. He got tongs, picked it up, brings it over to Isaiah. With it, he touched my mouth. Interesting. The very thing Isaiah said was unclean.

He didn't say, oh my eyes are unclean. I've watched pornography. He didn't say my ears were unclean. had come from a family of gossips. He said my mouth is unclean.

This disqualifies me. This cancels my destiny. This takes me out. This disqualifies me for the purposes and plans of God. So what does God do?

he targets the thing that you think disqualifies you to actually save a nation.

With it, he touched my mouth and said, see, this has touched your lips. Your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for. it is gone. You are good with God. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, whom shall I send and who will go for us? Because Isaiah has said, you know, all the people around me have the same problem. They all have unclean lips. They've all spoken wickedness. They've prayed to demons. They worship demons. They've sung to demons. They've blasphemed.

And Jesus is like, well, you gotta send someone to turn the heart to the nation. And I said, here am i send me. He said, go and tell the people.

Be ever hearing, but never understanding. Be ever seeing, but never perceiving. Their hearts were not repentant. Their hearts were not malleable to be turned for the Lord.

So they would hear the word of God, But because they had chosen to have hard hearts, the seed of life would not penetrate. Make the hearts of this people calloused. Make their ears dull and close their eyes.

Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear their ears, understand their hearts and turn and be healed. The Lord wants people to turn to him and be healed. Why did it happen?

Because they had already chosen not to let it happen. Then I said, for how long o lords an he answered until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged until the lord sends everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken and though a tent remains the land it will again be laid waste But as the terebinth and oak leaves stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.

Most people, Isaiah, are not going to care about what you say. Most people will resent me and they will resent you. They will reject you because they've already already rejected me.

They will scorn my words because they already have. And because you bring my word, you're going be grossly unpopular. But there'll be a tree stump left.

There will be a remnant. Bad days are coming for your nation. But there'll be a remnant left behind. And I can do a lot with a little.

All right, then in Isaiah 7, 14, we have a very familiar and prophecy. a This is one you probably hear every Christmas time. Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign.

The virgin, Mary, will be with child and will give birth to a son. I will call him Emmanuel. Emmanuel means God with us.

And very similar to it is Isaiah 9 verses 6 to 7. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.

There's literally a Christmas song that just quotes the Bible. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. It's great song for Christmas, and it's literally just word for word scripture.

Of the increase of his government and peace, there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne. We looked at David for a couple weeks. David was a shepherd boy who became a king and he had a a kingdom in a united Israel. It's currently, it looks very different than it did back then.

But and at the end of the apocalypse, Jesus will come back and set up a kingdom Israel. israel He will reign in David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.

The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. What is zeal? It is passion. Passionate love. Passionate desire.

Isaiah has another great prophecy regarding Jesus in chapter 11, verses 1 to 5.

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse.

Jesse was an Israelite. and That's David's father. What does a shoot do? a shoot is a plant that shoots up from the ground. So something's coming up.

From his roots, a branch will bear fruit. So a shoot and a root. Something's going down, something's going up. What is that? That is an agricultural prophecy about the death and resurrection of Jesus.

He's a root. He was buried the ground for three days three nights. And a shoot, he shot up. He got resurrected. So that's the resurrection prophecy right there.

The spirit of the Lord will rest on him. The spirit of wisdom and of understanding. The spirit of counsel and of power. The spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. Now, when we say we have a

It doesn't mean you run away from him. It doesn't mean that you sin and then you skip church for the next seven Sundays in a row. The fear of the Lord actually means the reverential awe.

that he is God of the angel army. He is the one who created reality and runs reality. It's in having a deep, deep respect that just takes your breath away.

And yeah, there'll be some times when we, in our relationship Lord, it just gets a bit humdrum, bit normal. And then there are moments when your eyes just open and your jaw just drop. and you're overcome and undone by how amazing he is.

That's what means have the fear of the Lord.

He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes or decide what he hears with his ears. But with righteousness, he will judge the needy. With justice, he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.

He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth. With the breath of his lips, he will slay the wicked. Now, Jesus is not killing anybody today, but at the end of the apocalypse, yeah, it's going to be a bloodbath.

But we'll look at that in the next series. Righteousness will be his belt, and faithfulness, the sash, around his waist.

Isaiah is an amazing book to read in that book. Some of his prophecies go back to the very beginning of the Bible.

A lot of them are concerning the people that he was talking to in real time. He had some super prophecies about the life of Jesus, which has already happened, and he's got some great prophecies regarding future events that even the future of world.
Prophecy of a New World and Jesus' Eternal Reign

The long book, the detailed book, but one absolutely worth reading right. isaiah forty eight Isaiah 48, 12 to 13.

And this is about Jesus basically being the creator of reality. Listen to me, O Jacob, Israel, whom I've called.

I am he. This is Jesus speaking. I am he. I am the first and I am the last. In the Revelation, it says, I'm the Alpha and the Omega and the beginning and the end.

My own hand laid the foundations of the earth and my right hand spread out the heavens. When I summoned them, they all stand up together.

So Jesus himself created the foundations of the earth and heaven And when it says heaven, he created atmosphere, he created the sky, it out of space, and he created the world of heaven, the spirit realm.

So this is just showing you the absolute, majestic, mighty, reality-changing power of Jesus.

And the fact is, he's not just the first. He's not just the alpha. He's not just the beginning. He's also the last, the omega at the end. At the end of all of reality, Jesus will scrap our current reality, heaven, hell, earth, and he remakes it.

Absolutely, wonderfully perfect. And that when he recreates it, we all continue to live in that new reality. And only that time, evil never rises again.

Happily ever after, really and truly, will be forever after. All right. Now we get to, I love all the Bible, but I do actually think this is my favorite section of the Bible entirely.

Isaiah 52, verse 13, and then we swap the two and three to Isaiah 53, 12. This is one of the most stunningly precise, detailed, accurate prophecies about the person of Jesus in his earthly ministry, spoken and written hundreds of years before Jesus came to the earth.

Now here again we have the resurrection prophecy. He grew up before him like a tender shoot and like a root out dry ground. The root goes down, the shoot comes up.

He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him. I mean, this is Jesus. He could have chosen the most drop-dead, gorgeous, stunning supermodel body if he had wanted to.

But he didn't. He didn't want people following him for his good looks. He wanted people to follow him for everlasting life. Which only comes through God.

Nothing in his in his appearance that we should desire him. He wasn't sexy. He wasn't like Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Tom Cruise, whoever you ladies think is good looking.

He was despised and rejected by men. He still is. A man of sorrows and familiar with suffering. He knew emotional pain.

Like one from whom men hide their faces, he was despised and we esteemed him not. I'm sure when he hung bat cross, a lot of faces were like gagging.

Surely he took up our infirmities. All your sicknesses, all your diseases, all your physical pain, he took that on his body. A lot of people say, oh, Jesus died for our sins. Yes, he did. Praise God.

He also died that you would be healed and restored from all your physical ailment. And carried our sorrows, all your emotional agony, all your emotional pain, your mental pain, your deep inner suffering. He took that as well on that cross.

He was assigned a grave with the wicked and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. Isaiah said his own lips were unclean. He said Jesus' lips had no lies.

In Isaiah's day, there were guilt offerings. You would kill an animal and say, okay, you know, this is a symbol of taking away my sin. I've disobeyed a holy God. where I'm killing this animal. Take my sin away.

Jesus was that animal. Jesus was that Lamb of God, the perfect, spotless, sinless, stainless sacrifice who takes away the sins of the world.

And because of that, the Lord would restore him to life. And the Lord's will will be done in him and through him. After the suffering of his soul, which lasted three days and three nights,

He will see the lights of life and be satisfied. he would come back from the dead.

By his knowledge, my righteous servant will justify many. What does justify mean? It means to make you just as if you never sinned. When Father God looks at you, under the sound of my voice, he looks at you just as if you had never sinned.

Verse 12, therefore I will give him a portion among the great. Therefore God is going to bless Jesus with many, many things. And he will divide the spoiled with the strong. Well, right now he is sitting in heaven on the throne with Father God. He's the richest he's ever been. But on the earth, he's also going to bring in and great spoils.

Because he poured out his life onto death. He died the ultimate death. once and for all time, so God's richly rewarding him. And was numbered with the transgressors, people said he was a sinner.

For he bore the sin of many, everyone, and made intercession for transgressors. Jesus is praying for you right now. Jesus praying for your family, he's praying for your friends, he's praying for this world, and As you pray the word of God and you're praying the same thing as Jesus praying, you're going to see massive things happening on the earth in your time right before your very own.
