Introduction and Personal Updates

00:00:04
Speaker
Hey, guys, I'm Lana. And I'm Ellie. And welcome to Scared But Curious. Happy Monday. Happy Monday. How are you doing today? I'm doing pretty good. That's good. I am planning for a trip. By the time you guys hear this, I will be out of town to try to prep everything before
00:00:32
Speaker
before I go. It's a lot. I know she's leaving me guys. She's actually coming closer. Yeah, technically you're actually coming towards me. Keep going. You're almost there. Eight hours later. If I could, I would 100% and then just have my husband leave me there. Seven hour drive? I could just, I can come pick you up. It's fine. Okay, perfect. Let's do it. Yeah. So down. Yeah.
00:01:03
Speaker
How was your weekend? It was good. My animals, I think, have actually been put on this planet to test my patience. So that's been pushing it lately. But other than that, I'm doing great. My mom always used to say that that's why they make puppies and kittens cute is because you get drawn to them. And then once they get older, there's nothing you can do because they're already yours.
00:01:31
Speaker
And babies.

Evolution of Cuteness in Animals and Babies

00:01:32
Speaker
I mean, there's actually like, I'm pretty sure there's like a psychological thing like our brain like
00:01:39
Speaker
They've gotten cuter over the years as an evolutionary thing because it actually does trigger the same parts of our brain that I think when we look at our own children, it's triggering that same type of love and admiration. So the fact that we feel that is, I think I remember reading that somewhere where it's actually an evolutionary trait that's been picked up through the years. They just got cuter because it's helped them. Well, it has. It has. It's worked in my favor, really.
00:02:09
Speaker
And now look at us, picking up their poop and giving them pats on the head for it. I actually, because I'm going to a wedding, I just got acrylic nails and my dog has not left me alone because now I have the good scritches. And so if I start stepping in, he doesn't leave. He doesn't leave. He's like, oh, wait, can I ask? Can you get behind the ear right there? Oh, that is good. Thank you.
00:02:37
Speaker
Exactly. That was thought behind those eyes. Anyway though, speaking of people with thoughts and...

Social Media and Podcast Length Discussion

00:02:46
Speaker
And eyes. Yeah, no kidding. Not a thought behind eyes is what I was going to say, but in just like short circuited. Not with thoughts and eyes. I'm keeping that in.
00:03:08
Speaker
god damn it what i was going to say is speaking of eyes with no thoughts tell me about your story because i know this bitch got no thoughts i feel like she has a lot of thoughts she has a lot of thoughts about bad things have you seen those eyes though can't tell a damn thing of what's going on in there
00:03:29
Speaker
And don't worry guys, we will actually post some posts again on Instagram. You will be seeing photos again. We've been kind of slacking and we're really sorry about that. Like we said, this year did not get off your great start. We're doing a mess. No. I think this is actually probably one of the roughest starts of the year I've ever had.
00:03:54
Speaker
Except for 2020 like no see 2020 didn't even fuck me up that bad because it didn't change my way of living that much man I just true Yeah, and at least the government paid me for fucking over here. I'm just getting fucked over. There's no payment for it Yeah, and so I'm just gonna say it now this is gonna be a two-parter because I
00:04:21
Speaker
Man, oh man, there was a lot of information here. I think this is our long, one of our longest. One of our longest cases. Yeah, one of our longest cases because, so we had the Morris murders and that was 33, 32 pages of notes. This is 27. Yes. So it's coming in hot.
00:04:47
Speaker
A close second. Gotta keep up with me in that 33 pager that shook me. God. You know how hard? By the time I was done reading that though, I don't know if you guys could tell, but by the time I was done reading that story, words did not mean anything anymore. That's how I feel about this one. I was like, I know a lot. I know what happened. So I know what I read, but I don't remember a damn thing. Yeah. So like I said, this is definitely going to be a two parter.

Introduction of Chris Reagan

00:05:15
Speaker
Um,
00:05:17
Speaker
So yeah, let's just get into it. Cause there's going to be a lot of like, what the fuck? And also, uh, there's a lot of information. So buckle in, get comfortable, um, get a snack, get in the vehicle. I'd be like, get some, get some water, get a snack, but also maybe just like get a full ass meal at this point. Cause we're going to be here for a while.
00:05:43
Speaker
Oh good, okay, let me get comfortable. I'm gonna mute so you guys don't listen to me getting comfortable, but I will unmute to give you all of the reactions as normal. And also, sorry if you guys can hear my chair, I did WD-40 it, and it didn't fucking work, so. I mean, if it makes you feel better, my chair started squeaking. From the beginning of a recording it didn't, and now it's squeaking.
00:06:10
Speaker
So you guys are stuck with this. Anyway, okay. Let's get into this case. So this case actually, we're gonna start with a guy named Chris. I think it's Reagan or Reagan. It's spelled like Reagan, but I've heard it pronounced Regan. So I'm just gonna say Regan. Chris was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was a father of two.
00:06:38
Speaker
And he loved the outdoors, loved to fish, loved to explore, anything that you could do outdoors, he loved. Being outdoors and doing outdoor activities, that resonates with me. But I don't know how much more will, so I'll carry on though. I don't think that, yeah.
00:06:58
Speaker
Don't think so. Unless I don't know a lot of shit about you. If there is anyone in this world that knows shit about me, it's you. You know everything, girl. I fucking say. I can't hide shit from you. Oh, God. Okay. We're actually going to jump back to the 80s when Chris was in the Air Force.
00:07:23
Speaker
He met a girl named Terry and they hit it off, like almost automatically. They dated for a little bit, but in the end, they kind of just went their separate ways. They just, it didn't really work out. They were in two different times in their lives, but that was until 2012 when they actually happened to reconnect again over social media and the spark was still there.
00:07:49
Speaker
And I'm like, okay, from the 80s? Damn. So the spark was still there. They started talking again. They really hit it off. And so Chris actually packed up and moved to Iron River, Michigan to be with Terry. So Iron River, Michigan is a small town. Sorry, this just made me laugh so hard. Iron River, Michigan is a small town of 3,000 people. You know, that's a small town.
00:08:19
Speaker
Okay. That's fine. What is mine then? Is it a town? A village? A small village? Yeah, my town is considered a village because of the number of people, but yeah. So because it was a small town, there isn't a lot of crime, which is great.

Chris Goes Missing - The Investigation Begins

00:08:38
Speaker
And because of this, their police station only had four cops in the whole town, which
00:08:47
Speaker
My police station has six, so I mean, I don't know if that's good or bad. I was gonna say, that's like a double-edged sword. Yeah. Yeah, I was gonna say, you got less people but more cops, hmm. At least you're not, you don't have 65 saloons on one street, so. And one jail.
00:09:09
Speaker
Oh, it's only one damn fucking jail. Wait, hang on a second. No, that's even worse. We have five saloons in a two mile radius and no jail. You don't have a jail where you are. There's no jail there. No, you have to go to the next town over. Like, like the one that I'm thinking of. Yep. Oh, Lloyd. Yeah. Yep. Exactly. Which I will say it's only half an hour away.
00:09:35
Speaker
We're taking you downtown. Not this downtown, but the downtown an hour. But not this downtown. Look at that one. That one over there. Oh my god. Sorry.
00:09:58
Speaker
So Iron River, Michigan is really close to Ontario, Canada, like just a couple hours drive, not even a couple hours. It's like a hop, skip, and a jump over the river kind of a thing. And just like in a lot of other small towns, the area was known for its outdoor recreation, which was perfect for Chris. Like I said, that was what he loved to do.
00:10:24
Speaker
So Chris moves to Iron River with Terry and he fits right in. Like I said, he loved the outdoors. And he actually gets a job at a company called Oldenburg, which was a naval ship manufacturing company.
00:10:40
Speaker
he excelled at this job. And in no time, he was getting promotions. He was really someone that you could count on at work. He would stay late, come in early, never really missed a day. And if he did miss a day, he would let you know, or he would even come in later on and be like, here, let me make up the hours. A reliable employee. Exactly.
00:11:07
Speaker
And he would always go above and beyond and he actually even went back to college so that he could be a better manager at this company. And when Chris wasn't working, he was outdoors exploring, fishing, everything. So, like I said, Terry and Chris met again in 2012 and
00:11:32
Speaker
they hit it off. But come 2014, Terry and Chris kind of realized again that their relationship wasn't really working out and that they were probably just better friends. And so they decided to break up.
00:11:48
Speaker
Terry and Chris, they remained friends. It was a fine breakup and there were no hard feelings or animosity or anything. And they actually talked on a regular basis. They would talk almost maybe not every day, but at least once a week, just kind of catching up. They would go out to dinner, you know, stuff like that. Like they were still just really good friends. And Chris had actually rented an apartment from Terry's parents after they split.
00:12:18
Speaker
So Chris and Terry were still super close to where Chris rented an apartment from Terry's parents. And Terry's parents trusted him, knew that he was a good guy, you know, all that kind of stuff.
00:12:33
Speaker
But Chris, always wanting the next adventure, always wanting to kind of grow farther and just be a better person, he found a new job in Asheville, North Carolina, and was set to move there in late 2014. And because Terry and Chris were still super close, they were talking about the move and how excited he was and not making plans, but they were like,
00:13:02
Speaker
she was going to help him pack like all this kind of stuff like they were they were you know making plans for the future like yeah because i mean and this is the guy that's always been there and never exactly that's yeah so okay all right i mean i i see there's a build-up going right now and i'm like i'm keeping up i'm like oh this is like one of those edm songs i can feel it's coming the drops coming
00:13:33
Speaker
It's sandstorm by Darude. You guys can't even see me but you gotta do like the head circle. Chris was
00:13:46
Speaker
actually the most excited about this move because he would be getting an apartment in North Carolina with his son that he had actually been estranged from for a couple of years. And I'm not sure 100% why I know it was his son from a previous relationship. I don't know why they were estranged, but they were coming together again. And, you know, they were just trying to make a better relationship. So Terry and Chris,
00:14:15
Speaker
made plans to meet up for the upcoming 2014, like people kept saying holiday season and I don't really know what that means because he goes missing in October. So it's not really the holiday season to me, but okay.
00:14:30
Speaker
I mean, it's like, I would kind of say it's the holiday season because like, that's when it's just one holiday after another after another each month. Like it's it starts Halloween. And then for that moment, it's just like there's a holiday every month. And then the year's over. Yeah, that's yeah. So Terry and Chris plan to meet up that next week, which would kind of be the last hurrah before Chris left.
00:14:54
Speaker
So on October 14th, Chris texted Terry, letting her know that all he had to do was pass the drug test that was scheduled for the next day and that he would be getting his new job. And he was over the moon. And so they made dinner plans for that weekend. And the dinner plans are between Chris and- Terry and Chris. Terry and Chris. Okay, I'm trying. Yeah. Okay. Kelly is not in this picture yet.
00:15:23
Speaker
No, I yeah, okay. Just wanted to make sure. Yes. So the net, like I said, the next day, Chris have the drug test. And then like, and, you know, really excited about it. But Chris never messaged Harry the next day, not to give her an update. Nothing. And Chris would actually become unreachable for the next two weeks.
00:15:51
Speaker
So he missed dinner plans. He, like I said, didn't text her about the drug test, anything like that, which was unusual. But Terry was worried, but she also understood that Chris was an adult and he could do what he wanted. But like I said, deep down, she knew something was off. Chris, like we said, was really reliable. And this was just not like him at all.
00:16:20
Speaker
And that's why it was also so weird that he never showed up to work.
00:16:27
Speaker
in those two weeks. And this was like the job that he was over the moon about because he passed his drug test. No, this was this was the job that he was that he was at. But that he was still working at. But like his old job, it's still his old job. He's still he still has a little bit of time and started move. Yeah. Got you. Got you. Okay. I was got you. But he was still a reliable worker. So him not showing up is still out of character.
00:16:54
Speaker
Exactly. So it wasn't like him to just not show up, even though, yes, he had a new job, but even his co-worker said that, like, yeah, that's not like him. He would have left on good terms. And people realized that the last time that anyone had seen or heard from him was October 14th. But it wasn't until October 24th that Terry went to the police and reported him missing.
00:17:23
Speaker
because again, he's an adult. He's, yeah. So- But it is like, what? 10 days of not seeing someone out of- Yeah. Yeah. Even if they are an adult- If I didn't hear from you, I didn't- For 10 days? For 10 days, I'd be like, okay, I'd like John Wick that shit. Yeah, we'd be calling the Calvary. At dawn, we'd ride. I'd be fine and you'd- Like taken. Yeah, exactly.
00:17:53
Speaker
So, Tulare? Tulare? Wait, is that Terry and Larry? Who's Larry now? Wait a second. I don't know. I don't know. Tulare. Gotta keep you on your toes. Yeah. It's like a ship name, right? Like, Carrie. C-H-E-R-R-I, Carrie. Pablo's friend. Pablo's, exactly. Tulare and Pablo.
00:18:21
Speaker
Tilarion Pablo. This is the Adventures of Tilarion Pablo. It's going to be a pitch show. Oh my god, I love it. And they're like little penguins. Oh my god. And Pablo can be the little penguin from, what is it? Happy Feet. The little Robin Williams character from Happy Feet. That's Pablo. Oh, I miss you. I love it.
00:18:41
Speaker
Aww.

Kelly Cochran's Affair and Suspicion

00:18:42
Speaker
So when Terry went to the police, that's what I was trying to say, Terry and police, and it turned into Plery. Plery. Plery. The Tolise. Tolise. When Terry went to the police, she reported Chris missing to Chief Rizzo. And Chief Rizzo took Terry's report, and from the beginning,
00:19:08
Speaker
she could tell something just wasn't right. Terry was so upset and she made it clear that this was not like Chris. And so Chief Rizzo really took this case seriously, which is great because half the time you fucking hear of people being like, Oh, he just ran away. He just blah, blah, blah. You know, he's an adult. He can do whatever the fuck he wants. And it's like, but
00:19:35
Speaker
if you know, you know, you know, if you know this, that this is not like this person. Exactly. And something that it's it's I find it a lot of cases and is extremely frustrating is people will
00:19:54
Speaker
They'll go to the police and say, hey, this shit's going down and it's not normal. This is out of character for this loved one that I see regularly. I know them better than you do. And they go to the police and go, this something is wrong. And the police still go, they probably just needed a break. And like, I get it. I'm sure you guys do have a lot of cases where that's the case.
00:20:15
Speaker
They just needed a break. But how many times has that not been the case? And you dismiss the family because you think you know this person better than the family does.
00:20:27
Speaker
Yeah, one of the cases I'm going to talk about later on is actually one of my really good friends, Ants. And they're just now realizing that it could have been a serial killer that took her. But for years, like literally too, pretty much to this day, they're still telling people that she committed suicide.
00:20:47
Speaker
because she had bipolar disorder. And everyone's like, no, that wasn't her. She was getting her life back on track, everything like that. But nope, because the police know better. Yeah, so that's another case I wanna cover. That's a hard one. It's just, it's so common. And it's like, let's just be the devil's advocate for a second. How many people do you think that they have coming through saying, this person's missing and this is,
00:21:18
Speaker
Yeah, this is something that's normal for them. We need to figure out something to do. But yeah, it's just they need they need to take it more seriously, because they're they're not with those people every day.
00:21:37
Speaker
But also, okay, let's also say like I was saying devil's advocacy here. How much money do is I know I hate that this is going back down to money, but we know what world we live in. Yeah. How much money is going to be spent?
00:21:50
Speaker
to find this, how many resources and funds are going to be spent to find this person to find out they're not actually missing. So I'd like to see how they gauge what the value of someone's life is and how much they spend on resources. Because ultimately, the whole reason they're not doing it is maybe lack of funding, lack of people, lack of resources, whatever it is. And I'm sure it's probably limiting them. It's not up to them. They don't have the resources to do it.
00:22:20
Speaker
you like I know that's the case for most things is like there's a detective that wants to do it, but they can't. And that's exactly how this case is. It's very much the thank God for Chief Rizzo because if not for her, this case would have never been solved.
00:22:40
Speaker
And it just happened to catch the eye of a chief. So how many cases didn't catch the eye of the chief and didn't happen? And you'll see that that still makes that still does not matter to higher up individuals. Well, of course not because at the end of the day, I feel like it really just comes back down to how much does this life worth? How much money are we losing to find this life? Is it worth it in the end? Yeah.
00:23:06
Speaker
Which is a disgusting way of looking at it. I hope you guys understand that me saying this as being a realist, not me because I believe it. Because I think it's the most disgusting thing about our world. It's disgusting. Yeah, I'm being the devil's advocate and my emphasis on the devil. So like we said, Chief Rizzo really took this case seriously.
00:23:31
Speaker
And like stated earlier, Terry's parents were Chris's landlord. So Chief Rizzo was able to get a key to Chris's apartment pretty much straight away, thank God. And the police went to Chris's to do a welfare check. And when they got inside, everything was a mess. Not like a complete ransack or anything, but just looked like someone lived there.
00:24:02
Speaker
a guy, you know, coming from someone who is married to a man. It was a mess, you know. Yeah, I can't relate, personally. Your house is spotless. Too gay. Absolutely spotless. Oh, that's definitely not the case at all in your shape or form. I was saying that I don't live with a man ever. I've never lived with a man. So I don't have much reference.
00:24:30
Speaker
So, so everything was a mess in the house and not like dirty or anything, but like, so like it was lived in. There were dirty dishes in the sink. Boxes were everywhere from him packing up. And they found a list of everything that he needed to do before he left. And so it wasn't like it was dirty or gross or anything like that, or even ransacked. It was just like, like he left for a second, was gonna come right back, finished packing.
00:24:59
Speaker
You know, and the biggest red flag that they found was actually the contract to the new job was still sitting on his like coffee table, unsigned. That even means that he didn't, it's not like he just up and left and went to
00:25:18
Speaker
a new job you know just was like fuck it i'm just gonna leave and go to the job this was like something he he was obviously going to be coming back to this location there were things that he still exactly wasn't just like him being like i'm just gonna leave this and throw it all over the place no it's like it was still put in a place with intention of coming back to it
00:25:39
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So at this point, they kind of know that he didn't just up and move like we're saying. And the only things that were missing from his apartment were his phone and his car. And I don't know if his wallet was also missing or not. That was one of the other question I had I was like, did they find his wallet like if that because I mean, you can't drive without your wallet. So
00:26:03
Speaker
I'm hoping you could, but you shouldn't. You could. You could. But yeah, so I don't actually know if his wallet was missing or not or whatever. But luckily, Terry had actually seen that he she told police that she had seen a car that looked like his at a park and ride.
00:26:22
Speaker
if you guys don't know what that is, a park and ride is like a place where you drop off your car and then you take a bus somewhere else. It's a good commuting type of place. Yeah. It's like a communal parking lot that's used just to house cars because you're taking another means of transportation. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. The police go to the park and ride and they look
00:26:47
Speaker
at the car to make sure it is Chris's and it is, but it's all locked up and, you know, doesn't look
00:26:56
Speaker
doesn't look weird, but the guy, the parking lot attendant, had told the police that this car has actually been here for a while, that nobody's come and check on it, anything like that. But without a warrant, they couldn't physically open the car and look inside. So they did a visual look, which, duh, that sounds...
00:27:20
Speaker
idiotic, like, no one, what else kind of look are you going to do? I know that just means that they're not touching anything. They're only seeing what they can see. There's no moving of things. There's no opening of things. But it just sounds really funny. Has no one done that yet? Like, has no one looked? Yeah. Well, maybe they didn't realize it was Chris's car. Because like, Terry said, like, she, it looked like Chris's car, but she wasn't 100% certain it was his car.
00:27:47
Speaker
Because you just passed it. I'm thinking like the security probably would notice that that car has been there for a while. So wouldn't they go, hmm, maybe I should just make sure that there's not a body in it. Yeah. Yeah, you'd think. You know. Fucking think. Maybe it would cross my mind, but that's maybe because we do what we do. That that crosses my mind like, ooh. Yeah. Just make sure, just take a quick walk by that back end of the car and make sure it's, there's no aroma.

Police Investigation and Cochran's Suspicious Behavior

00:28:17
Speaker
So they look at what's visibly available. What's the word I'm looking for? They go and look in the car just to see what is openly visible in the car. See if there's any evidence of foul play. And doing that look gave them even more clues that something wasn't right.
00:28:39
Speaker
Chris actually had to wear a knee brace from a surgery that he had had years prior. And he only took it off to sleep and if he had to drive. So the knee brace still being in the car was a little bit weird because normally he would have put the knee brace back on just to get out of the car.
00:29:01
Speaker
So this is like an indication that maybe when he left the vehicle last, he wasn't the one that was making the decision to leave the vehicle. Because if he did, the knee brace would have been on. He would have put the knee brace on. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's a bit of a red flag. A little bit. Mm-hmm. I mean, there's a couple of red flags, but you know. Yeah, this is just adding to the bouquet of red flags.
00:29:26
Speaker
It's not, I like the idea of that, a bouquet of red flags. You know like the ones that they use to mark like property lines? Oh, I see, yeah. Just a little tiny bouquet of red. I'm gonna do that. One for you and one for you. It's like when you're at a wedding and you throw the bouquet back and you catch it next. Oh my god, you should do that whenever you get married.
00:29:55
Speaker
No, hopefully it's a good thing. At that point, I'm just gonna straight up pelt someone in the face with a red flag and be like, fix yourself. I love that. Don't come to my wedding trying to catch a red flag. Work on yourself. Emphasizing each word you say with a smack. Yes, with a smack. Exactly. It's punctuation. Okay, so this told police that Chris did not plan to be gone for that long.
00:30:18
Speaker
And along with all this other kind of weird red flags and evidence, they also actually found out that Chris had never made it to his drug test on the 15th. And that the last time he had used his bank cards was at 4pm on the 14th. So all contact, all everything had ceased on the 14th.
00:30:44
Speaker
And now they're willing to look into this now that they've looked and noticed there's a knee brace in a car, even though you've had how many people telling you some things, whatever. Okay. Okay. Okay. And the only time that he used his bank card on the 14th was getting gas. And so it wasn't like it was him getting money. It's not like he,
00:31:11
Speaker
anything. It's just a normal, he needed to get gas. And that was confirmed on a security camera at the gas station. And that gas station security camera footage was actually the last time Chris was ever seen. So
00:31:29
Speaker
Okay, so Chris is MIA, all right. He's been seen at a gas station. Did he have his brace on at the gas station? I don't know. You're asking the good questions. Was he braced at this moment?
00:31:50
Speaker
Cause that means that he is willingly going to this place. But if not, I mean, it was, it was getting gas earlier. So then. Yeah. I never even thought of that part.
00:32:01
Speaker
I mean, if we're gauging whether he's okay or not off of this brace, then I feel like we should really take into consideration if he's wearing it in the places he's been seen last, right? Since now we're taking it seriously, even though his wife or girlfriend's like, bro, I can't find my boo. Something's wrong.
00:32:22
Speaker
So Chief Rizzo knew foul play was likely involved because of all the evidence. And she knew that this investigation was going to be bigger than they could handle. And so they actually called the state police for help.
00:32:37
Speaker
I know. You can't see Lainey's face. I am praising these police right now. Chief Rizzo is amazing. She is a fucking force to be reckoned with because... Seriously? You hear so much of police putting their own fucking egos before anything else. And you hear of like, oh well. I'm not asking them. This is my case.
00:33:00
Speaker
Exactly, like it's some fucking pissing competition. Like, shut the fuck up. This has nothing to do with you. Shut the fuck up. I love that you called it a pissing competition rather than a pissing contest. I don't think I've ever heard it said that way. I didn't even... I mean, it works still. It's not incorrect. It works, but that's not how the turn goes. But I also love that it's like a tiered competition, like a tournament.
00:33:28
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. It's like Mark's madness. It's a bracket. You get down each time. No, that would not make sense. So it just seemed like we're in a really weird water sport. No, abort mission. Abort. Abort.
00:33:52
Speaker
Look at the wrong audience, wrong group of people buying that at that point. It's like that small business owner who was like, oh, they have a candle. And when she was younger, she always played with the wax and stuff, so she turned it into a lotion.
00:34:10
Speaker
and she literally made this so like you can have like a wax that you pour the lotion on and she completely did not make it for the kink community but they took it and ran so so she's just like made videos about like how she's acknowledging like when you don't actually mean to but it happens anyway like i'm not gonna say no but i was so unprepared like i didn't even think of that i'm so fucking naive
00:34:36
Speaker
Yeah, like she's like, I'm too innocent. And now this entire community is like, Hi, I would like to order like thousands at a time to sell at my shops and stuff.
00:34:47
Speaker
That is so funny. Oh my God. I love that for her though. Cause like also girl get your fucking point. We need to actually, we should probably link her. We should link her cause she's like a small business owner. She's a person of color. I'm pretty sure she's queer. I don't know if she has queer, but we got support. I love it. Let's link her. I love that. Okay. So chief Rizzo calls the state police for help and
00:35:15
Speaker
So they please come, they're like, yeah, no problem. But they actually zeroed in on Terry at first, which isn't uncommon since she was the last person to talk to him. She was also the closest person to him. And she also was the one that kind of saw, well, not kind of, she did see his car at the parking ride.
00:35:41
Speaker
And so they questioned Terry for two hours, but they finally realized that Terry has nothing to do with this. She's just as concerned as everyone else is. So finally, the police are able to get a search warrant for Chris's car. And there was a pretty big piece of evidence in his car
00:36:09
Speaker
Chris, if you remember me talking about in his apartment, there was that to-do list of everything he needed to do before he left. And Chris wrote down everything. This man, I... This man is me. I have never... What's the word I'm looking for? I have never...
00:36:34
Speaker
I was like, we write down a lot of the things that we have to do pretty regularly and we update that stuff. But then I thought a little bit further and was like, you know, if I was, if something was to happen to me and they went to go look at like the lists or things that I have to do, they would be so fucking confused because there are things that like overlap. There's no dates. They're just things like there's nothing makes sense. You just know at some point in my life, I was needing to do this. And some of them are done. Most of them aren't.
00:37:02
Speaker
Yes, literally on my computer actually sticky notes all over my monitor and it's like to

Community's Role in the Investigation

00:37:08
Speaker
do list things because if I do not see it, I will forget you forget it. Exactly. And if you don't, and then if it becomes part of your like object permanence, then it's actually gone.
00:37:20
Speaker
I'm fucked with because it always does. Yeah, that's something. Yeah. So you just actively move the sticky notes into different locations. You can't keep them in the same spot. Yeah. Yes. So, so Chris wrote down everything. And in his car, they actually found a note with directions written on it.
00:37:43
Speaker
so there was no actual address on the note but just like turn left then turn right then you know do a 45 degree angle though I'm just kidding at the next legal u-turn make a u-turn in 3.4 miles take a right make another u-turn yeah your destination is on your left
00:38:08
Speaker
There was no actual address on the note, but the police decided to take this as one of the leads. So they took the note or the directions as a lead, but the police also went into Chris's work to talk to anybody that may have information at his old job. And all of his coworkers said that the last time that they had seen him was on the 14th.
00:38:33
Speaker
And that he had come in for a second. I can't remember like I think he was he had like taken the day off to get his affairs in order since he was moving. And like he was going to do something else. But he came in for a second to finish something up because he was such a good frickin worker.
00:38:52
Speaker
But some of the coworkers told police that Chris was really close with one coworker. And this coworker was named Kelly Cochran, and that they should talk to her.
00:39:06
Speaker
Now the Kelly bitch shows up, okay. So a little bit more on Kelly. Kelly Cochran was 35 years old and worked in a completely different department than Chris. But rumor had it that the past couple of months, she was actually having an affair on her husband of 13 years with Chris. Kelly and her husband, Jason,
00:39:33
Speaker
were both born and raised in Maraville, Indiana, which I'm guessing that's how you say it. I don't know. I'm not from Indiana. So growing up, Kelly and her husband Jason lived next door to each other and were high school sweethearts and ended up getting married in 2002.
00:39:51
Speaker
Okay, so I want to make sure I have the names right. Okay, so we have Kelly. Okay. We have Chris. Chris is the one that's missing. Terry is Chris's partner. Yeah, well ex-partner, but yeah. Yeah, ex-partner, but they're still very close. Weird partner, I guess. I don't know how to explain that situation. They're a situation ship. Kelly is married to who? Kelly is married to Jason. Jason.
00:40:20
Speaker
Okay, so there's a Jason now, all right. Yes, there's also a Jason, but don't worry. Terry is kind of, she kind of goes away for a little bit, and then all we really have to focus on is Chris, Kelly, and Jason. So like I said, they lived next door to each other, and were high school sweethearts, and ended up getting married in 2002. They decided to settle down in the same town that they grew up in,
00:40:47
Speaker
And they started a swimming pool servicing company. And I just had to take a break for a second because I don't think I could do that. Like, literally growing up next to your future husband, you are childhood sweethearts, you get married super young, bitch, have some time for yourself. Literally, I'm like, you actually. Like you never had your own personality, really. Because like,
00:41:15
Speaker
I grew up, like me and my husband are actually high school sweethearts. We met a sophomore year or technically we met freshman year, but we didn't start dating until junior year. But like we are high school sweethearts, but we also have our own personalities. We have our own interests. We have, you know what I mean? Like we are separate and we can come together and be a pair. But this just seems like there was no separation whatsoever.
00:41:45
Speaker
And the fact that they like, it's like they were born there, raised there and going to settle down there. I'm like, that sounds horrible. That sounds like you. There is so much more in the world and in life in the world than this. Exactly. So during the time that they had that like swimming pool servicing company or whatever it was, Jason actually started getting debilitating back pain due to the
00:42:15
Speaker
the company, like due to the manual labor of doing the pool. And this actually forced Kelly to work overtime and fill the positions herself. Because they were now down to one person working, they were like running behind and they were behind on bills. And this caused a lot of tension in the relationship, understandably, but also what did you expect?
00:42:45
Speaker
So they decided that a fresh new place would be what's best for them. So in the dead of winter, just going to throw that out there, the dead of winter, they moved into the middle of nowhere, Michigan and Michigan, Michigan. You said Michigan, right? I heard Michigan. Yeah. To Iron River, Michigan. And wow. Okay. Yep.
00:43:13
Speaker
Yep, which is like, like I said, Iron River, Michigan, which Iron River is literally a hop, skip, and a jump away from Canada. So it is so much snow and so cold, but okay, you're gonna move in the dead of winter.
00:43:26
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. So actually Jason got a job that wasn't so physically demanding and Kelly started working at Oldenburg, which is where she met Chris and people that knew Kelly at work. Um, and some close friends would say that Kelly was very outgoing. She loved to talk and would definitely kind of over share about her personal life and her home life. Um, like,
00:43:55
Speaker
things you don't want to know, like...
00:43:58
Speaker
like sex things that you don't really wanna know. And you're like, honey, I just asked you how your day was going. I'm just grabbing some water. So when the police found the directions in Chris's car, they actually, because they had gotten so many leads about Kelly, they actually looked to see if Kelly's address matched the directions because now they know that Kelly and Chris are coming together. And so they,
00:44:27
Speaker
they matched it up with Kelly's address and it was a match. So the police went out there to see if either of them had any information. And Jason was actually the one to answer the door and imagine like,
00:44:48
Speaker
you enter the door to police and the police are like, hi, does your wife have any information about the man missing that she was having an affair with? Like that would have been so awkward. I feel like they should know to not mention it to him. Right? I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. Like maybe they should just be like, Hey, it stresses me out. Is Kelly home? I need to talk to her. Yeah. Yeah.
00:45:17
Speaker
So when actually they did ask if Kelly was home and Jason said that she wasn't, but as Jason is saying this, Kelly walks up right behind him. Okay, maybe you guys should have a conversation about it.
00:45:41
Speaker
And Kelly tries to brush this off to police calling Jason that, you know, protective that like, oh, he's just looking out for me.
00:45:50
Speaker
And Kelly, always willing to talk, was like, yeah, I'm down to talk to you, you know, whatever. So the police said that she was super calm, had a smile on her face, but Jason was the complete opposite. He was very stiff and awkward and said like, quote, looked like a deer in the headlights when they wanted to talk to Jason.
00:46:16
Speaker
Well, doesn't that speak volumes? When a deer, that whole term of deer and headlights is kind of a, oh shit type of moment. So if you're going, oh shit, cause there's a cop looking at you. Yeah.
00:46:35
Speaker
Kelly told police that she had talked to Chris between the 12th and the 15th, but she couldn't really remember which day specifically and that it was just a normal conversation, but that he had stopped responding and he had stopped showing up to work. And she had also thought that he just moved to North Carolina early and because they weren't like in love or anything. Like, you know, it was just like a, for good times, all that kind of stuff.
00:47:05
Speaker
And when detectives on the case just flat out asked Kelly about the affair, Kelly didn't even seem fazed by the questioning. And Jason was standing right there. And she's like, yeah, what about it? And Kelly told the detectives that Jason knew all about it. And not only that, but that he was okay with it and that it wasn't a big deal.
00:47:35
Speaker
I don't know. Okay, so they're in a polyamorous relationship and they're open and she's able- Not really. I'm guessing more just in a, like, because they weren't together together. They were just having sex. It wasn't any, there was no feelings there. Between Jason and, oh, between Chris and Terry. Kelly. No, sorry. Kelly. There you go. So Chris and Kelly were just doing it to do it.
00:48:05
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. There was no, there were boyfriend, girlfriend, anything like that. They were just, yeah. Okay, so I mean, it's kind of like a polyamorous relationship between like Chris and, no, fuck, sorry. Jason and Kelly had a polyamorous relationship because she's able to have sex with whomever as long as it's just sex. Like an open relationship, exactly. Yeah. So- Yes, yeah, open as far as trying, yep, that's-
00:48:35
Speaker
So the police were not buying, not the not the affair part, but they were not buying the fact that like, that she didn't know the last time she talked to him, that, you know, oh, it could have been this day or that day or whatever. So they brought the Cochran's in for questioning.
00:48:52
Speaker
I feel so bad because if I was ever questioned by the police and they said, Hey, when did you talk to this person? And I'd be like, bro, I don't even know what today is. I don't know what I did three hours ago. We were just talking about how my grandma was like, I was like, grandma, that was a month ago. And she's like, Lana, I called you a week ago.
00:49:16
Speaker
Wait, what? Yikes. Between the disorder and the concussion, man. I don't know. They're tag teaming my ability to keep track. I don't even have a concussion. I just have time blindness. I'm like, oh. So they brought the Cochran's in for questioning, but they were questioned separately.
00:49:38
Speaker
And during Kelly's questioning, she was still stuck on the story that Jason knew about the affair and that ever since he had had his back injury, he knew that he couldn't satisfy, which I hate using that word, satisfy his wife anymore. And so that this was just completely normal for them. And she also admitted that Chris was not the only one that she had been seeing. Um,
00:50:07
Speaker
I, you know, I don't understand. I think about, um, so you can't please your wife anymore. So you're going to have you tried? Like, did you just kind of give up? I'm so confused about that. Cause it's not like there aren't marital aids, so to speak. There are things that you can do and it seems like you just kind of gave up on her, but you also don't want to let her go. And that doesn't seem fair.
00:50:38
Speaker
Well, so Jason's interview was very different. Funny you say that. Yeah, yeah. So he claimed that he had very bad mental health and that he actually checked himself into a psychiatric facility on October 16th, which is two days after Chris disappeared. He also agreed with Kelly about her needs not being met.
00:51:06
Speaker
but told investigators that he was actually not okay with the affairs at all. But he felt like he had to deal with it or he would lose her. Um, okay. What in the dysfunctional bullshit is going on right now? What in the cuckold? Yeah.
00:51:26
Speaker
Like, that's not how that that's not how that's supposed to work. I mean, like, I know I have not had the best track record. Yeah, I do. I do be heartbroken a lot. But no, this ain't it. This ain't it. If you are no longer as much as it hurts, if you don't think you can make your partner happy anymore, don't you think that maybe it's a little selfish of you?
00:51:57
Speaker
to if you're not willing to try to at least let them go. Because what's that lyric I always say? What's the point of loving in pieces? Uh-huh. Yeah, it's all or nothing. You can still love someone from afar, but if you're not willing to love all of them and try for all of them, then you're just wasting each other's time. Exactly. Come on now. But again. Exactly.
00:52:26
Speaker
Love is not easy, but you don't gotta make it harder. Bingo. So besides marriage problems and an affair, there was no real evidence to point at the Cochran's, but they had to figure out what happened to Chris because the snow was on its way and it's, like we said, it's Michigan. So once the snow hit, there was really no way that they were gonna find him if he was out there.
00:52:55
Speaker
So hoping that he didn't just get lost on one of his adventures, the police used helicopters that had infrared and search teams, but everything came back empty handed. So they really focused on the electronic evidence. So like phones and bank records and all that kind of stuff. When the police looked at Kelly and Jason's phone,
00:53:23
Speaker
There was so much evidence. So much evidence to show. Are these people like fucking right? I don't know. I'll cut off my head. I don't know. Are you in that age group that doesn't know? Okay. So the, you know, just enough on how to utilize the tools, but not completely understand that you are being watched all the time.
00:53:51
Speaker
Yes, exactly. Okay, everybody. Just a friendly reminder that we don't have to worry about the government putting chips or some crazy sci-fi bullshit. We literally willingly carry around tracking devices all day long. Yeah, exactly. And honestly, are we really that important?
00:54:18
Speaker
Mm hmm. No, we're not. Honestly. No, we're just a cog in the machine, man. I was about to like start singing like a Oh, no. My brain just like completely stopped. Rise against the machine. That's all I was trying to say.
00:54:40
Speaker
oh my god oh she's almost there come on keep going but then i'm also here be like bitch i don't even know because i also have a concussion
00:54:55
Speaker
Or the blind leading the blind. Well, I don't have a concussion. So there was also so much evidence to show that Jason was definitely not okay with Kelly sleeping with other men. And actually, like, just in early October, he had actually been texting Kelly and pleading with her to stop sleeping with other men. But Kelly did not care at all.
00:55:25
Speaker
what okay I'm not okay I'm like truly trying like truly trying to make sense of this has she like tried to leave and he won't let her go so she's like fine I'm just gonna fuck whoever I want or no she like a narcissist I know I'm like I can't figure out which direction this is going because yeah obviously I don't know where you say but like who what who wants who yeah
00:55:56
Speaker
Yeah, who is really wanting to stay with who and who is feeling too stuck to leave? Are there something that we don't know behind these closed doors? There's a lot of things obviously we don't know about behind closed doors, but... Yeah. So even though Jason was pleading with her to stop sleeping with these other men and all this stuff, Kelly didn't care at all. She just...
00:56:25
Speaker
disregarded it, like his feelings didn't matter. There was even a text that Jason had walked to Chris's apartment one day and caught Kelly there. But there was also...
00:56:38
Speaker
other evidence to show that Kelly, at the same time as Chris, was sleeping with another man named Eric. And after seeing all of this evidence, Chief Rizzo's like, holy fucking shit, my dude, what the fuck is going on? And decides to question the couple. Poor Rizzo's like, I knew something was up. I knew there was some shit going down. What is going on? But damn, I was just following this case and now who the hell am I talking to?
00:57:06
Speaker
So she decides to question the couple herself. And so this happened on October 14th or October 24th or whatever was when they finally started looking into this thing.
00:57:21
Speaker
And on November 10th is when Chief Rizzo questioned the Cochran's. And Jason pretty much said the same thing that he had said before. So they brought this guy, Eric, in. And Eric was very open about everything that police asked him if they knew that Kelly was married. And Eric said that he not only knew about Jason, but he also knew about Chris.
00:57:50
Speaker
And then Eric dropped like the bomb that the place that Kelly and Eric would meet up at was the park and ride that Chris's car was found at. Brr. I don't... Okay, okay. This is like a bad verb here. There's a lot of names. I know, I know. Yeah.
00:58:17
Speaker
And there are a lot of names, okay? Like Kelly, if you were going to break the law, stop sleeping with so many people. It's getting really confusing. It's getting so fucking confusing. Yeah. So there's an Eric now. There's an Eric now, who isn't really... And Eric's still kicking. He's fine. He just happens to be...
00:58:35
Speaker
It just happens to be screwing with the wrong cup of tea there. Exactly. Yep. And the last time that Kelly and Eric met up was October 12th. So only two days before Chris goes missing. So Kelly knows about the park and ride. And if I remember correctly, at one point Kelly says that she has no idea what this park and ride was.
00:58:59
Speaker
but okay, Kelly, okay. Okay, Kelly, if you're gonna lie, at least make sure you know what your lies are, okay? Yeah. Step one, keep track of your own damn lies. Yep. Yep. So Eric would take a polygraph test and he openly shared his text thread with Kelly and he actually ended up being a rolled out. So Eric is,
00:59:26
Speaker
You know, Eric is not part of this anymore. But now they were solely pretty much solely focused on Kelly and Jason. But out of the two, they were mostly looking at Jason because Jason was the one that wasn't okay with it. All that shit. I mean, he also like is mentally unstable. He has motive because to take these men out because
00:59:54
Speaker
His wife won't stop fucking sleeping with them. And you know what'd be crazy? How about you just leave her. You can't control what she does. She is her own fucking person. Exactly. And that doesn't mean you kill the other person. What the hell? The dysfunction is so deep.
01:00:14
Speaker
But what sucks is that before they could keep going with the investigation, the city manager, which I don't know what that title is, but apparently it's above a chief because the city manager had enough and told Chief Rizzo that there wasn't enough manpower to keep chasing dead ends.
01:00:36
Speaker
but there was no dead end being chased if you're getting more information each time you follow a lead. That's kind of like your job. I know it's crazy, but you're literally supposed to follow leads and get more information to solve these cases. That's why you get tax money. That's why you wow, the audacity. And like, there's so much about this part where like they were just saying that
01:01:06
Speaker
Um, Chris had either just run off or take his own life, taken his own life. Like they were so ready to just come up with the easiest solution. And it makes me really upset because you know, it's like, if it was a different person, if it was a different chief, they probably would have done the same thing and we would have never gotten answers, you know.
01:01:30
Speaker
And it makes it scary because of what we find out later, that it's so scary that this
01:01:40
Speaker
this person was almost not caught. Because of if the city manager had any say in it, this person would have got off, you know? Yeah, because they'd, and that's, they shouldn't have say it quick. Mm hmm. Exactly. Like if you are only looking at the finances of it all, and you actually aren't doing the groundwork and putting in the effort and understand the process it takes to do these things, then I truly think you can shut the fuck up and sit down because you don't know what it takes to do it.
01:02:10
Speaker
Exactly. Yeah. So, luckily, Chief Rizzo, she just felt that she was so close to answers. And so, she just ignored the city manager. She was like, fuck you. Yeah, you can't see Ellie, but the double middle finger with the dance. I did a little dancey dance. Little dancey dance to middle finger. So,
01:02:39
Speaker
She just ignored the remarks and just kept going. But because they kind of like cut her manpower even more to deal with this, she had to work on this case on weekends and her days off because no one else would fucking deal with this, which is bullshit. But the community saw that Chief Rizzo was working so hard and
01:03:10
Speaker
with they they started like a fundraiser and they pitched in which they shouldn't have to do they shouldn't have to do that but they pitched in any way and that's wrong when there's like yeah when the police have to get a fundraiser to do their own job oh wait i guess that's kind of what we do to our freaking teachers too
01:03:29
Speaker
Yeah. They just have to go and buy their own materials to teach children because God forbid you ever give them the resources they need. Oh my God, I could go off for a while. Why do we expect people that have such a high
01:03:43
Speaker
influence in our society, like teachers, they're forming young minds and giving them the knowledge that they need to grow up and survive in this world. Why would we not give them more? Yeah, but you're gonna give them the absolute bread, like the crumbs of money that yeah. And then our goal is like, they get so much funding. I don't understand where it's going. Yep. But I don't want to get canceled.
01:04:12
Speaker
So I don't want to disappear. So. So when the fundraiser started, there was this PI team, which personal investigator investigative team that offered to help. And because of the work that they did, Chief Rizzo ended up getting a probable cause warrant
01:04:39
Speaker
for the Cochran's home on March 5th, 2015. And remember, he went missing October 14th, and they just now got a
01:04:51
Speaker
a warrant for the Cochran's home on March 5th. And actually, isn't today March 5th? Hey, today's March 5th. I was like, why does the day sound so familiar? Yeah. So even though the police have this probable cause warrant, they're going into the Cochran's home, Kelly and Jason didn't actually seem that worried or stressed. They waited at a neighbor's house
01:05:18
Speaker
while the police were searching and what the police found was fucking insane. Like mind blowing insane. Okay. All right. Um, okay. I think I'm ready. Okay.
01:05:40
Speaker
So, the Cochrane's home was loaded with weapons. And when I mean loaded, I mean absolutely loaded. There were multiple types of guns. There was a .22 handgun, a shotgun, multiple other guns, knives, swords, foes, arrows, and even baseball bats and hammers just lying around the house positioned as if they could be used as weapons.
01:06:08
Speaker
propped up against the wall. Like, you know, like somebody could just grab something soon. In every single room, there was something in arms reach. Okay, so like, are you preparing for the end of the world or what type of shady shit you got going on in there? Something. They had noticed that everything also seemed to look repainted.
01:06:35
Speaker
and like redone, like there was a fresh coat of paint on everything. And when the light hit just perfectly on the ceiling, there was what appeared to be cast off marks, like blood cast off on the ceiling. You mean to tell me they didn't even clean it first? They just painted over it. God, I love stupid criminals. Thank you for being dumb.
01:07:02
Speaker
And so when they did a luminal test, when the police did a luminal test, they just like, they assumed the luminal lit up. Like it was like a fucking, it was so bad. Literally it was like, you know, when you just like throw like neon paint and you put the black light and it's like, literally. Oh my God. Yeah. Like, you know, like the blue man group. Yes. Yes. That's literally what it looked like. Their murder scene looked like a blue man group performance.
01:07:32
Speaker
My god, but like a lot less fun because you know, yeah, yeah, there was no Yeah, nobody was having a good time Maybe Jason I'm fucking keeping that in That was not planned Honestly
01:08:00
Speaker
honestly. So the Luminol, okay, so hang on a second. So the Luminol lit up, but Luminol has been found to react to other things other than blood, like bleach and some other cleaning products and just other little things. So it's not
01:08:22
Speaker
100% proof that it's not like slam dunk, you know, we got a slam dunk case here. They do have to take it in for testing. So the police took pictures and evidence and they finished up the search and they gave the house back to the Cochran's. And just like stated before, the Cochran's didn't seem stressed or anything, but
01:08:51
Speaker
In the middle of the night, after the police left, so did the Cochran's. The Cochran's just poof. Did they take all their artillery with them or did they just leave the weaponry? They packed up everything.
01:09:13
Speaker
Oh dang! What did they do? Like snort a line and poofed? Like how the hell do they do that so fast? I'm sorry, if you have weapons in every room and yet you still man it, dang, that's almost impressive. And also very suspicious. Now that does not, I don't think it's bleach anymore. If I did, it's definitely not looking like bleach. Definitely think it might be blood.
01:09:37
Speaker
Just saying. Spray some hydrogen peroxide and let's see what happens. See if it cleans up. So what's great though is that the PI team, they knew something like this was going to happen. They just had an inkling that something like this was going to happen. So they actually put a GPS tracker on the Cochran's car before they were done.
01:10:04
Speaker
before they were done investigating. I like the way Chief Lizzo... Lizzo? That's the wrong thing. Rizzo. Rizzo. I like the way Chief Rizzo... Jesus fuck. It's almost like my Eat a Groundhog last time.
01:10:24
Speaker
Oh my god. It won't come out. Okay. Oh, I don't even remember what I was going to say. It's almost like Chief Rizzo is good at her job is all I was trying to say. I know. Oh my god. So they put the GPS tracker on their car and
01:10:45
Speaker
they found that the Cochran's went all the way back to Indiana, crazy. And when they looked, when the police looked at Kelly's social media, they actually realized that she had been trying to get out of Michigan for a couple months at this point. Like she would be posting on like, you know, like Facebook marketplace and shit like that, or like, you know, the, hey, I need out. Does anyone have an apartment for me anywhere?
01:11:15
Speaker
doesn't matter what state. And this and this was like since the since Chris's disappearance or. It's just since Chris's disappearance. Yeah. Mm hmm. Wow, they really don't understand that when you send text messages and messages, it's everywhere. But OK. Yep. So you didn't hear it from us, guys. Keep being stupid. Yeah, she was trying to get out of Michigan ASAP, like
01:11:45
Speaker
So when the whole search happened, they were both like, fuck this, I'm out. I am fucking out of here. So when the police were searching the Cochran's house, the Cochran's were staying with just some neighbors literally right down the street.
01:12:07
Speaker
the so after this wait hold on hold on hold on see me to tell me these motherfuckers left their house to only go down the street for no no no like for a second like while they were because again it was the search was only gonna be for like a couple hours so they just needed to like get out of a house while they needed to
01:12:26
Speaker
searches. Got you. I misunderstood. I thought that they were like, and they went down the street and I'm like, bro, you should have probably gone a little bit further. Maybe like the next town at least. Maybe two towns, maybe even. Yeah. Right.
01:12:45
Speaker
Again, keep criminals stupid. We're good. Yeah. So the police talked to the neighbors that the Cochran's were staying with while the police searched the house to begin with. And so they wanted to talk to the neighbors to see if the Cochran's had said anything about where they were going to go.
01:13:05
Speaker
or see if the Cochran's even just said anything. And these neighbors, they spilled the beans. They told the police that the Cochran's were definitely acting strange when the police search was happening. And we know Kelly loves to talk, but she was constantly talking. She would not shut up.
01:13:33
Speaker
And it was like she just had to keep talking so that she didn't have to think about the search that was going on at her house. Like she just would not shut up. I mean, that seems beneficial for the police. Was she already randomized? Because at that point, anything you say can and will be used against you at a court of law.
01:13:59
Speaker
And well, she was just kind of like going on about like what the police were going to find and like, oh my gosh, what about this? And what about that? And like, oh, if they, I hope they don't, not like hope they don't find this, but like, oh, what if they find this and, but like almost giving the neighbors like a, oh, well if they find this weapon, it's not really a weapon. It was used for the like kind of trying to cover her tracks before they even needed to be covered.
01:14:26
Speaker
okay so way to just point the police in the direction of a weapon that could have been used because they probably weren't even thinking of it because every inch of your house had a weapon yeah i'm sure they were not looking at any individual weapon but now that you now that you're feeling the means to your neighbor yeah we don't i just had that in the house for yeah
01:14:49
Speaker
That just happened to be there. And you're like, well, I wasn't even looking at that, but now I have. Yeah. So with Kelly just blabbing her mouth to the fucking neighbors and.
01:15:03
Speaker
We all know and love Jason's, again, looking like a deer in the fucking headlights. He's looking like fucking Jasper from Twilight, probably. You know what I mean? I was just about to say, maybe he just lives in a consistent state of Jasper from Twilight and you literally beat me to it. I was just unmuting to say this Jasper looking ass just traumatized all the time. Oh my God. Bye.
01:15:31
Speaker
So the police, while they were talking to the neighbors that Kelly and Jason were staying with for a little bit, they also talked to other neighbors. They got a tip that around the time that Chris vanished, one of his neighbors had heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from the area of the Cochran's home.
01:15:56
Speaker
a door slamming and then a male and female talking loudly and the female was saying no repeatedly and the male was saying we need to get the hell out of here and then just a couple minutes later there was a car and it raced down the road. Neighbors also said that the Cochran's were using power tools in the middle of the night
01:16:23
Speaker
And one neighbor told police that around this time, the Cochran's were burning something that smelled terrible.
01:16:34
Speaker
It was so bad that the neighbor confronted Jason and Jason just brushed it off and saying that saying it was yard waste. But this neighbor was like, bitch, I've been here. I have burned anything you can think of. That's not yard waste. What waste? Maybe not from a yard. It might be some sort of waste, but it's not yard waste. Exactly.
01:16:59
Speaker
Yeah, but this neighbor didn't believe it at all. And the police sifted through this burn pit. And now that the snow had melted, because it's March at this point now, they looked in this burn pit and they found a button to some jeans and a blade from a reciprocating saw.
01:17:22
Speaker
which is used to, like, cut things. What's most disturbing is that shortly after Chris disappeared, the Cochran's invited the neighbors over for a cookout. And I will say that there is never going to be any way to prove this, and that this is all alleged.
01:17:49
Speaker
This is all alleged. Okay. And I really, really think... Okay. I have... Okay. I really hope that where my brain is going is incorrect. And I have a strong feeling it's not. Oh my god, thank god I already ate. Okay. So this is all alleged.
01:18:08
Speaker
But the neighbors say that they were invited over to the Cochran's house for an impromptu cookout. And when the neighbors got there, they were all surprised because the Cochran's were like,
01:18:25
Speaker
Drowning in meat. There's no other way I can even describe it. They had so much meat and What the one of the weird things is is that the Cochran's were always saying how they had no money and You know that they were living paycheck to paycheck but all of this meat must have been so fucking expensive like that's how much they had and Jason's
01:18:49
Speaker
Like explanation was that back in Indiana, he was a butcher for exotic meat.
01:18:58
Speaker
But the neighbors were like, well, free food. What does exotic meat mean? I don't know. What does that mean? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Oh, I'm going to do some Google searching. No, I don't want to know. OK, well, I need to figure out what the frickity frack of exotic meat means. So hold on. You continue, but I'm going to do some research real quick because curiosity might kill this cat, but we're going to find out.
01:19:24
Speaker
So the neighbors were like, well, I guess free food is free food. And so they proceeded to eat the food and multiple neighbors, multiple neighbors said that they had never tasted meat like this before.
01:19:41
Speaker
but that they did not think anything of it. Well, if he's an exotic meat dealer and my brain's like- Dealer? What? What? Is this a dealer for meat? He opens up as the ass trench coat. You want some meat? You want some alligator? But when all of the pieces kind of just fit together, you know, like the timing and the power tools and the Cochran's moving,
01:20:11
Speaker
Okay, so I just did a quick little search. No, no, no, no, no. It's not as crazy as we think it is. It's really not as crazy. I was expecting something much crazier, like rabbit, frog, ostrich, alligator, kangaroo, apparently. A lot of ostrich, an antelope. Oh. But also exotic meat can mean something else.
01:20:43
Speaker
No, I'm aware. I was just trying to figure out what... Okay, I thought you were taking it literally, and I was like... No, no, it could mean definitely a lot of different... Anything that's not normal you find at the grocery store is, I guess, considered exotic. But I was like, what exactly would you get from an exotic meat supplier? Butcher. What options?
01:21:02
Speaker
would you have? Yeah. Even though, like I said, it can't be 100% proven. The families were horrified, horrified. And one man even said that it was so traumatic that he couldn't eat for months. I mean, I don't blame him, but... So what you're telling me is that they all got to taste Chris.
01:21:29
Speaker
We don't know. To this day, we do not know. Is there none left? Could no one test the garbage or anything? Like the barbecue that was used? Well, this was, this was, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Because also with DNA and stuff, as soon as it's burned, that's why, like, again,
01:21:53
Speaker
You didn't hear this from me, but if you ever need to get rid of a body or like DNA or anything, you burn things because DNA cannot be tested on ashes. That's why it's always so weird when like... But that also when you incinerate a body, there are bones and teeth that will not be incinerated even though most of it is. Yes, yes, yes. So if you trying to be suspicious out there and you listening to this information just know does not mean it gets rid of everything.
01:22:23
Speaker
Exactly. Yeah. But like a lot of the times, that's yeah, it's always super weird when people burn things because you're like, hmm, that's the only way you can't test for DNA most of the time. Because again, there are exceptions. So I think that's where I know this is a horrible place to leave off. I know. But I think that's where we're going to leave off for today. Because like I said, there's still a lot more to go through.
01:22:52
Speaker
But so, yeah, I think that's where we're going to leave off for part two or for part one or two. And yeah, so enjoy. Well, thank you. I'm sorry that we had to end on that part. Yeah, that's a that's a that's a. Oh, man. What to expect for part two. I have no idea. Yeah, so. Oh, yeah. All righty.
