Securing the Planar Door
00:00:19
Speaker
So, Odie and Eddie both step through the door, and Odie, you know, once Eddie walks through, he goes to lock the door ah behind her. Does he notice anything different about that door?
00:00:32
Speaker
His planar door, he's had for millennia. So, on the right side of the door jamb, frame? Door frame, yeah. It's a big metal door frame. What's the difference between ah a jamb and a frame? I honestly don't know.
00:00:47
Speaker
Listeners, someone tell us, please, because we are too lazy to Google. I describe it as a big iron door frame. Yeah, okay. Yeah.
Mysterious Device on the Door Frame
00:00:54
Speaker
So on the frame, there is a, so like, it looks like a little metal dot that should not be there.
00:01:01
Speaker
Like, the rest the rest of the frame is completely smooth and this will on like on the front face around the door. But there's this, like, little metal dot with this little green blinking light on it.
00:01:15
Speaker
Without question, Odie's pulling that off. So, oh he pulls it off, and ah he says, Miss Heidi. Uh, yeah, what's up?
Questioning Heidi about the Sensor
00:01:25
Speaker
I believe I instructed you not to touch the planar door or any of the equipment until you're familiar with it. What is this?
00:01:33
Speaker
And she's about, she's like halfway to like protesting, and then she sees what he's holding. Oh. That. Um.
00:01:45
Speaker
I don't know. this was not here this morning. And I've had this door for millennia now, and I would notice any slight scratch upon it.
00:01:59
Speaker
Okay, listen. I'm gonna be honest with you. I know what that is. I don't remember putting it there, if that makes any difference.
00:02:14
Speaker
What is it? Well, that's, um...
00:02:21
Speaker
I believe it's called a proximity sensor. And why place it up on a delicate instrument like the planar door? Like I said, I don't remember doing it. Okay, well... It was in my pocket.
00:02:37
Speaker
And then I guess I didn't realize it wasn't until now.
The Fragile Nature of the Planar Door
00:02:42
Speaker
Did you make this? No. It's from the ruins that I but i found it.
00:02:53
Speaker
Right. um And he's just going to give that back to you. He says, do not touch any more equipment here. If you wish to stay here, there are some ground rules that I will have to lay down. And one of them I already told you about.
00:03:16
Speaker
Listen, I really didn't know that it was happening. i I can't explain it.
00:03:28
Speaker
Well, the next time you catch yourself doing anything like this, please refrain from doing so. All this equipment you see here...
00:03:40
Speaker
Despite its condition, what it might look like, it's very, very sensitive and introducing any foreign technology to it might jeopardize the integrity of these instruments.
00:03:54
Speaker
And despite how this planar door looks, despite how hardy it's it seems, it is just as delicate as any of that equipment that runs it.
00:04:05
Speaker
I understand. i do.
Heidi's Initiative and Determination
00:04:08
Speaker
Okay. So, take this. Don't do that again. Well, I didn't mean to do it in the first place. i understand that.
00:04:16
Speaker
But, please don't. Um, and, uh, he takes, like, what what is that? Like, is it like a football, you said? That little, like, bomb that's from the last? Oh, it's like a Like, what does that thing look like now we can kind of like...
00:04:32
Speaker
It's like a cylinder, but like, well, kind of like a football, kind of, yeah. It's this wide, like a wide cylinder, and it's got these... that's how he's holding it right now. It's kind of under his armpit. Various protrusions that are coming out of it. Gotcha.
00:04:44
Speaker
So that's what he kind has it right now. Like, as he sees talking to and pull that little thing off the door, he has it like hugged under his armpit. And ah he says, all right, ah so out there...
00:04:56
Speaker
We did succeed in our task at eliminating this weapon, and I applaud you for that. Yes, thank you. You took some risks I wasn't really prepared for you to take, ah which were quite dangerous, but it's exciting to see someone take that kind of initiative.
00:05:21
Speaker
I was going to say I'm glad I excite you, but that really is not at all what I mean. so all... So we did complete our task. Yep, sure did. You did pass your test, but um I have to ask, that like even with the dangers, I mean, the the the risk level of this past task was relatively nominal, average.
00:05:49
Speaker
average I know what nominal means. That's one of the words I do know. Okay. I'm just... But I appreciate you adjusting for me. Okay.
00:06:01
Speaker
um Is this what you want to do? I mean, I understand that you were you want to know more, you want to explore, you want to help me, but sometimes helping me might involve something more severe than that.
Heidi's Quest for Adventure
00:06:20
Speaker
You mean like having a sword at your throat? That might happen, yes. That has happened. That did happen, and I was there to help you. And i will always be there to help you. That will help each other.
00:06:34
Speaker
See, and that was my test of you.
00:06:42
Speaker
He just smiles at you. He's like, okay, well, so you saw what it's like. Yeah, it's... I haven't even processed it yet, so... I don't expect you to.
00:06:57
Speaker
ah it's It's something... This is something that's only reserved for us fixers. To have any organic being do any of this is is frankly absurd and and dangerous.
00:07:14
Speaker
Are you saying that no one's helped you before? It has been a very, very, very long time. And honestly, the last one who helped me was a Titan. And I told you before, I do not like working with other fixers. It's not something I enjoy doing.
00:07:40
Speaker
ah So if you wish to stay here, I will lay down some ground rules. We've already established one of them. Do not touch the planar door or the planar door controls.
00:07:55
Speaker
That includes the chair, the panels, the monitors, everything up in that second story. Even the chair? I could make you a new one. that I made that chair myself. I salvaged it from other equipment I found around this aircraft. and and There's some rooms in this aircraft I just don't really frequent, so I don't know what's even in there.
00:08:18
Speaker
ah but we can explore it together. Are you inviting me to stay?
00:08:27
Speaker
I'm going to take a wild guess that you are going to be very difficult to get rid of. Oh, yeah. I am not going back home. That's not happening. And after seeing you perform out there, i I will admit, I do need some assistance, and I refuse to get it from another fixer.
00:08:50
Speaker
So... Yeah, someone to get their hands dirty for you. I get it. Right. I just... Once you make it clear that this is not a job that involves just having fun or exploring or learning, it's ah it's a lot of that. I use that planar door to go anywhere I want, whenever I want. Not just for for tasks. i I go just to learn.
00:09:19
Speaker
But then you do get the occasional missions where I come back missing a limb. I can survive with a missing limb. I get fixed. You are a little bit different.
00:09:33
Speaker
I can also survive with a missing limb. Yes. That's a little ableist of you. I mean that I can... I didn't know what that means. With my repair module up there, I can get parts of me replaced.
00:09:51
Speaker
Everything, well, almost everything about me is replaceable. You... Organic beings are different. And... I just want to make sure you're willing to make that kind of risk.
Discovering Wittershins
00:10:10
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. I just wanted to get that across. I... I don't know if I've made this clear or not. i cannot...
00:10:23
Speaker
Live a life that was intended for me where i do nothing all day every day until I'm dead.
00:10:32
Speaker
That's... I need to act. If I am not able to get out and do something and move around and... And solve puzzles... I...
00:10:47
Speaker
I understand. i I am not a pleasant person when I am sick. I understand that. sign You're not the first person I met who is like you. i Everywhere I go, i meet so many people that are fascinated, especially worlds that are exploring technology or exploring exploring ruins. They always want to learn more. that is This seems to be a tendency with a lot of organic life. They just want to learn.
00:11:21
Speaker
and That could be a hunger that is so hard or impossible to satisfy. And with you, growing up in that kind of life on your world, I i imagine it's difficult and or impossible for you to live that kind of life if you have this ambition.
00:11:42
Speaker
So I still feel bad about wrapping you up in all this, but at the same time, i hope that With you staying here and learning to your heart's content, ah you'll be happy here.
00:11:57
Speaker
And i will say, if you ever want to go back, I will happily do so. That is not a one-way door. Anywhere you want to go, whenever you want to go, it's available to you.
00:12:11
Speaker
I mean, I don't even know what the name of my home is. Oh. I mean, you can just ask me to take you home and I can take you right there. I i know exactly where you you came from.
00:12:25
Speaker
Well, what do you call it? Wittershins. Wittershins? Well, it's not what I call it. It's so what your ancestors called it.
00:12:37
Speaker
ah When they traveled back and forth from their planets, ah establishing new life, leaving a ruined world behind... They called it Wittershins, wherever they went. It was the other direction, ah the other world.
00:12:53
Speaker
um So that is what they called it. i I do not name anything. The names that come up on my screen are names that are derived from the inhabitants of those worlds or even the plains.
00:13:10
Speaker
Wittershins, huh? Hmm. I don't know the name's origin, but that is what it's called.
00:13:21
Speaker
It's kind of a more whimsical name for such a boring place. Well, it wasn't always
Ensuring Safety on the Aircraft
00:13:29
Speaker
boring. I mean, you have those ruins, you have this ship that we were on. You're not you're not wrong.
00:13:35
Speaker
i I really appreciate you letting me stay here and don't, don't feel bad about exposing all this to me.
00:13:49
Speaker
It really, it had little to do with you. I insisted upon it. I appreciate that, Heidi. And, I do appreciate your assistance.
00:14:00
Speaker
Uh, now, uh, Now you are staying here. of a few rules of this place. And she's back to her normal sassy self. I want to keep you safe here. All right. Elsewhere is dangerous.
00:14:17
Speaker
So you said. Is very dangerous. But here in this aircraft, in the buzzard, you're safe here. Except for those those those seats that are hanging off off that balcony over there. That's why I'm going to tell you some ground rules.
00:14:32
Speaker
And some things to stay away from. And he kind of gestures with his one hand. He has that bomb under his right arm. I love that we're having this conversation. every Yeah, with it with a nuclear bomb under his arm. um We'll get to that in a minute.
00:14:48
Speaker
He kind of gestures around the space. He says, this room is the planar door control room. You are allowed to be here whenever you choose. Again, just don't touch any of the equipment.
00:15:00
Speaker
But through these doors, you can access the rest of the buzzard. And you're free to go wherever. So he gestures to those two doors. He says...
00:15:12
Speaker
Down these two doors here, ah there's hallways that extend down the entire aircraft. Both of them lead to the central storage, ah which is where the garden was, where I gave you water, where you fainted, and I had to bring you back here. um whoa who Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:15:31
Speaker
Fainted? Yes, you were unconscious. I think that was I, though. You were fully unconscious. I had to carry you back here. That is... up for debate.
00:15:43
Speaker
Okay. At a later time. Um, he says through those doors, you can access any additional doors through here. um There are various storage rooms, offices, ah various storage chambers that were once utilized on the aircraft, but I've commandeered them for my own use.
00:16:05
Speaker
ah For instance, ah there's the library, the lounge, ah workshops, tool rooms, equipment storage, power generation,
00:16:17
Speaker
Old plumbing that I did not know what to do with, so I left that alone. ah There's old residence chambers. I am assuming that when this aircraft was flight worthy, they use these chambers as sort of like first class dorms, essentially. ah First class passenger chambers. Bedrooms.
00:16:38
Speaker
Okay, what why do we get a what's the ranking? I don't understand. First class? I don't fully understand it either. It's ah something from the plane of Augman. Augman was very technologically advanced.
00:16:50
Speaker
ah Hence this giant aircraft we're sitting in right now. It's very similar to the ships that are wrecked on your world. ah So I commandeered this aircraft and salvaged what I could and made it into my workplace.
00:17:08
Speaker
ah You are free to explore this entire place unless there are locked doors. Please do not unlock any of the locked doors. That is primarily for your safety, as tempting as that may be.
00:17:21
Speaker
You do realize how difficult that is for me, right? it is. But the doors are locked for a reason, various reasons. um One of them, the primary reason is very dangerous ah power generative equipment that is still on this aircraft that I have not dealt with yet.
00:17:41
Speaker
It keeps the more vital parts of the aircraft running, such as the electricity that powers the lights. But the voltage coming out of those rooms is quite impressive. And there's also the power supply to this planar door.
00:17:56
Speaker
That would do very serious harm or even kill you if you got into that room. So please do not touch that. ah Other than that, you are free to go wherever you want inside this aircraft. And as far as going outside, do not do that unless I know about it and I will escort you.
00:18:17
Speaker
See, elsewhere is safe for the, well, as long as you stay within these planar zones, these districts. The district I'm in is very small. ah So you could go outside of it, but again, make me aware and I will be with you to explore the outside of this aircraft, but we can't really go much further than that without endangering either of us.
00:18:46
Speaker
Does that make sense? um Well, it I understand what you said. Whether it makes sense or not, that remains to be seen. but i guess in in in short, just do not leave the aircraft unless I know.
00:19:00
Speaker
Well, yes, that that much I i parsed. He says, the other most important thing. Uh, well, we have to deal with this. And he gestures to that, uh, that bomb.
00:19:13
Speaker
He says, uh, you are not the only resident on the buzzard. And i would like you to be introduced to him for a couple reasons. You have a roommate? Uh, I guess in a way.
00:19:29
Speaker
But I'll explain things to you once you see him. But it's important for you to know about him for a couple reasons. One, he also lives on this ship.
00:19:40
Speaker
Two, he's going to deal with disarming this device here. She looks incredulous and puzzled. Who is this guy? All right, I will explain along the way.
00:19:52
Speaker
So he leads you down that hallway through that left person door. Same place you went to when you went to get a drink earlier that day. um Only now, you're not as stressed as you were. you're kind of but You have a chance to kind of observe your surroundings a little better.
00:20:10
Speaker
You're once again in this very lush, tropical-looking jungle in the middle of this plain.
The Magical Plane of Fendryl
00:20:18
Speaker
And as you're walking ah through the berry-filled bushes and everything, Odie's kind of talking to you about this place a little in more detail.
00:20:28
Speaker
And he says, Now, the buzzard, it sits on the plain of Augman, but... The very bottom of the aircraft, it sits on a very small sliver of a different plane, ah which has caused all of this fauna and flora you see to erupt from it and pretty much take over the central chamber of the buzzard.
00:20:55
Speaker
ah We are currently walking on a small fraction of the plane of Fendryl. It's the plane of magic. So just this section, this room...
00:21:07
Speaker
He says, yes, this is this is the plane of Fendril. The plane of magic is a wonderful plane that is so unlike all the others. A plane of system, they benefit from each other. the The planes inside them benefit from each other. The central plane, it benefits from all the smaller planes that overlap it. Once there's a plane overlapping each other,
00:21:29
Speaker
you get some benefits of that plane. So magic did exist in Augment. It was very, very hard to access. But the most prominent evidence of magic in that world was the ability to see color.
00:21:44
Speaker
Color stems from the plane of magic in most instances. ah So everything you see here, why it's so vivid and colorful, it is because it is strictly from the plane of Vendryl.
00:21:57
Speaker
Just wait a second.
00:22:01
Speaker
So color comes from another plane? Typically, yes. If that's the way the code of each shared plane is structured. Again, you have these two planes overlapping. ah Think of it as almost two color wheels. If you overlap blue and yellow, you get green.
00:22:21
Speaker
And in that green area... you get some benefit of being green. In this case, it's having color or the ability to create ah fire from your hands. The magic is, it it depends on how greatly these planes overlap. When it comes to Augmin and Fendral, they didn't overlap very much. So the extent of the benefits that Augmin got from Fendral was very limited. It
00:22:51
Speaker
was essentially just color and maybe some sleight-of-hand tricks that people knew how to perform with true magic instead of sleight-of-hand. Color comes from this plane of magic.
00:23:03
Speaker
Yes. So what about the ultraviolet spectrum? It's different in every plane, but different wavelengths of light, the reason why they function the way they do is often influenced by the plane of magic if they're part of
The Sanctuary of Fendryl's Last Survivors
00:23:20
Speaker
a planar system. Planes that function entirely on their own are usually very massive and they lack some things, but they do function fairly well on their own.
00:23:31
Speaker
So when the planes shattered in this planar system, it was thought that the plane of magic, its existence, was the sort of glue that holds all the planar shards together. Again, it's only a theory, it hasn't been confirmed, because back when the planes first shattered, the understanding of how planes function was very limited.
00:23:55
Speaker
It wasn't studied widely. The plane of Augman began to study it, and once they find out how to establish communication with other planes, There was a falling out that led to the shattering. But there was another race on the plane of Fendril that discovered the airplanes and how to communicate with them millions of years ago.
00:24:20
Speaker
before other planes even dreamt or even saw their first other plane. And since the plane of Fendryl is so badly damaged, the the remnants of it were used to fuse these other planar shards together, that the inhabitants, the majority of the inhabitants of the plane of Fendryl are gone forever.
00:24:40
Speaker
So this place serves as a sanctuary for some of the last survivors of the plane of Fendryl. And as he says that you come upon that same clearing that you came upon when you were in search of water, um it's in the center of this big chamber, that big tree reaching to the ceiling, kind of overgrowing a crane block um in the middle of this room. And this big tree sitting on a mound in the middle of a deep ring of water. And um now that you have a chance to really look at this ring of water, you can tell that
00:25:15
Speaker
It's extremely deep, which doesn't make sense for you being on an aircraft. um And you're looking into this water and it is crystal clear.
00:25:27
Speaker
Just no and impurities that you can see. And you also see below the reflection of the water, surface on the water surface, um you can see various life in here. ah You see fish, ah you see little, like, you see animals that look like fish, but certainly like Not like any fish you've ever seen. um A lot of them have glowing spots, like they're bioluminescent and they swim around in this water. um You see some creatures that kind of look like squids. You see one animal that kind of looks like a shark, um has big gnarly teeth, but kind of comes up to the surface, but then swims away when it realizes there's nothing really interesting up here.
00:26:09
Speaker
And ah you also see something interesting at the bottom, or at least as deep as you can see into this water. um It is so clear, but so deep you can't really see the bottom of it. In fact, you you can see what this tree is actually sitting on, this mound of dirt that the tree is growing out of.
00:26:26
Speaker
It's actually on top of a very tall, like kind of Greco-Roman ah pillar that is in this water. And you follow it down until you can't see anymore. um it's It's completely black.
00:26:37
Speaker
um You also see similar type of architecture ah in the back beyond where you think the limits of this water would be. it looks like a big coliseum looking structure um with lots of little entranceways and windows that you can't see how deep they go because they they're just completely black. And you also see that what you so are standing on, the floor you're standing on, it seems to be only like a foot thick.
00:27:01
Speaker
And under that is just water. Like you're actually standing on a very large reservoir of some kind.
The Secret of the Sanctuary
00:27:07
Speaker
And you see Odey kneel down, and he kind of looks up at you, and he says, I will stress again, you tell no one about this. They cannot know that this sanctuary exists. They can't know if it's residents, and they can't know of him.
00:27:24
Speaker
Who would I tell? ah He says, well, there's other people that live in elsewhere, and ah depending on what happens, we may have to speak. With these people, I mean, if you're going to live here, you're going to have to interact with other people other than me, i would think, eventually. I would certainly hope so.
00:27:42
Speaker
And ah he reaches ah his hand to the water and he kind of taps like he's like patting it a little bit. And you see all these creatures that have been kind of happily swimming around in this water. ah They sort of part.
00:27:55
Speaker
And you see a bunch of blue lights ah come out of one of those holes in that... Colosseum looking structure on the bottom of this reservoir. they're all moving together um as like a unit.
00:28:09
Speaker
And before you can like see what this creature is, Odie stands up and kind of puts his hand on your chest to kind of like back you up a little bit from the water's edge. Hey, hey, hey, watch it. I'm just trying to make sure you don't fall in or get
Meeting Gremly, the Dragon
00:28:26
Speaker
too wet. You might actually get a little wet from this.
00:28:28
Speaker
And before you have really a chance to respond to that, you just see a huge column of water erupt in front of you. And you see a creature fly out of this ah fountain of water and land behind you with a pretty big thud.
00:28:46
Speaker
The creature you see behind you is big and blue. Right behind me? Yeah. You're facing the water. Oh, so like free willies? Yeah. Oh, shit.
00:28:58
Speaker
So yeah, it kind of arcs overhead and lands behind you with a pretty big thud. The creature you see is long and blue, like kind like a royal blue with ah bright white edges.
00:29:11
Speaker
It's kind of walking, it has a very long body, easily 50 feet long. It is kind of walking on two big fins, ah like kind of like a seal would walk. And it has a very long, curling tail um with some fins protruding out here and there.
00:29:30
Speaker
This creature has a very long, thin neck with kind of like frills on either side of it. And you see this creature's head. Its head kind of looks like a slug.
00:29:44
Speaker
It has two big slug-like eye stalks under its chin. ah It has almost like a beard of kind of short tentacles that are all kind of writhing under its face.
00:29:58
Speaker
And it has two longer tentacles ah on either side of its head that stream behind it kind of like furors of a catfish. These two big kind of arms that it has, they end in these broad paddles full of suction cups.
00:30:12
Speaker
And this creature kind of lowers its head to Odie as he offers it that bomb that he got from Igongo. And this creature kind of seems to sniff at a little bit of his little tendrils. And finally, it brings its head back and those two long tentacle arms forward. And it wraps this little bomb up in those tendrils.
00:30:37
Speaker
It starts to almost investigate this thing. It moves it around and looks at it. you can see it's actually like, seems to be curious about this, uh, this device. Odie looks at you and he says, Miss Heidi, this is Gremly.
00:30:52
Speaker
And he is a Fendrillion dragon. Uh, well, the larval stage of a Fendrillion dragon. They are... A bit more magnificent when they mature, when they reach their adult forms. They get magnificent wings.
00:31:07
Speaker
Are you familiar with the process of metamorphosis at all? I'm sure with your pollinators, they go through a similar process. And, like, she's looking at this thing like, what the fuck?
00:31:20
Speaker
Uh, what? Yeah. Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Larva thing. Wow. Uh...
The Sacrifice of the Fendrillion Dragons
00:31:29
Speaker
I'm not gonna lie, this is not what I expected when you said you had a roommate.
00:31:33
Speaker
I thought maybe, like, some, you know, boring librarian person, or like a cat, or... Wow. Um...
00:31:48
Speaker
Just lives in the water there, huh? Yes, and dragons in general are quite powerful, magical creatures. ah In fact, it is believed, well, it's a common theory that I am willing to believe, the Phendrillion dragons, ah they knew about planar travel thousands of years before Augman even had the concept of planar travel. What knew about?
00:32:17
Speaker
Well, um some creatures have the ability to sense other planes. Most of the creatures in the plane of Fendril are very aware of places beyond their own. They're very, very curious creatures.
00:32:35
Speaker
Fendrilian dragons, well, dragons in general, are fairly intelligent creatures. And the dragons of Fendril, they were the ones that not only discovered the planes, but to travel between them.
00:32:48
Speaker
So when Elsweyr started to collapse, the Fendrillion Dragons were very aware of this impending disaster. And it is believed that the Fendrillion Dragons sacrificed their magic to bind the remaining planes of Elsweyr together.
00:33:07
Speaker
As a result, there's really no Fendrillion Dragons left. Gremly is quite possibly the last of his kind.
00:33:17
Speaker
Are you saying that This large, slimy thing here has an intelligence in the same way that we do? And, like, as you say that, you um see Gremly kind of tilt his head back and just, like, shove that bomb into his, like, beard tentacles.
00:33:36
Speaker
But you see, like, underneath those tentacles, he has a very sharp squid-like beak. And it just crunches into this bomb like a pop can. And he starts kind of munching away on this thing.
00:33:48
Speaker
And Oddy says, well, yes, they're they're very intelligent creatures. Creatures we don't fully understand. ah They speak a language that is beyond anyone's comprehension.
00:34:00
Speaker
No one is able to translate it accurate accurately. Yet? Potentially. Because Gremli is very intelligent. It is why they believe that the dragons of Fendril had their own society, had their own schools to teach their young. They were very intelligent creatures.
00:34:21
Speaker
So, did you give him the name Gremly? um it was a rough translation of the language I've been trying to decipher, but he does seem happy with that name.
00:34:36
Speaker
She starts to walk while she's going to wait until he finishes munching on this nuclear bomb. Yeah. but Yeah, like and when you see him like munching it, doesn't take him very long to like deal with this thing. um Like after a minute of chewing on it, um he just drops it. And when it hits the floor, it lands on a big heavy metal thunk. But you also see that...
00:34:58
Speaker
While it is a little misshapen from his big beak pinching into this thing, it's like someone put a black and white filter over this bomb. There's absolutely no color to it at all anymore.
00:35:10
Speaker
And Odie kind of looks at that he says, well, that was ah easy for to deal with. ah Thank you, friend.
Communicating with Gremly
00:35:17
Speaker
And you see Gremlin kind look at you and he doesn't really approach you, but he seems to give you a little ah grunt, like a curious grunt.
00:35:26
Speaker
we'll walk over, gonna look him over, and, like, try to, like, but like, where do you look at a slug? sh I guess you pick an eyestalk, I guess? I don't know. Yeah, you see, like, he's giving you this, uh, like, this look, like, he tilts his head, like, how any animal would. You see, like, these little eyestalks, they kind of go wide, but then they kind of go close together. Some kind of communication and thought process is happening here, but, like,
00:35:50
Speaker
You never talked to a giant slug beast before, so... So she's going to walk up and look up at him.
00:35:59
Speaker
Gremlin, is it? And, uh, you get, like, uh, like his head kind perks up a little bit. You just ate a very dangerous large explosive?
00:36:11
Speaker
You're our little trough, but then one of those tentacle arms kind of approaches you with the suction cups kind of out to you, almost like... He's trying to give you a high five. Like, he's like, he has this thing out, like a palm.
00:36:24
Speaker
She, like, moved away slightly. Like, is he gonna try and, like, suck my brain out or something? No, absolutely not. ah He wants to communicate with you. I don't have one of those, though.
00:36:36
Speaker
Oh, no. yeah You'll need that. up See, Ventrillion Dragons, they communicate in a very unique way. ah Their language is is very difficult to understand. It's not a language that is spoken necessarily, it's felt.
00:36:52
Speaker
And if you make contact with him, he'll be able to relay at least some of the language you can understand. She puts her hand up. Yeah, and he ah puts his, like that big tentacle paddle on your hand and like it's a little bit cold and slimy, but you do feel something.
00:37:11
Speaker
You feel kind of like a wave of emotion hit you. And it's not your emotion, it's like It's like you feel happiness, but it's not your happiness.
00:37:23
Speaker
um And you also hear a sound. um But it sounds like a couple people singing in an angelic choir.
00:37:34
Speaker
um Just a long, drawn-out note. But then you hear more voices join this voice. And... With these emotions and these voices, this angelic choir of voices, you get the feeling that you are hearing a language of some kind, but it's it's nothing like you ever heard before because you're also feeling it. um So you also get, like, as you're feeling these emotions, you feel like Gremly is happy to see you and very curious.
00:38:05
Speaker
You almost get, like, the hint of a question, but it's a question you don't know exactly what it's asking. You also get a little bit of excitement in there. It's like a whole ah like blend of emotions you kind of get washing over each other um and along with that choir, and then it just kind of stops as he ah takes his paddle off your hand.
Understanding Gremly's Language
00:38:27
Speaker
Whoa. did you Did you hear him talk? Yeah, he's not that fond of you for some reason. um You see Grumly kind of like shake his head a little bit. All right, yes, I'm joking.
00:38:39
Speaker
Probably. Probably. That was unlike anything I have ever experienced. So the language of Fendrillion Dragons is, ah at this moment, not translatable, even by the best technology that we have.
00:38:58
Speaker
ah the Well, hold on. That you have. Yes. Now you have me. Yes, but if you... I e deciphered the glyphs from the ruins when I was eight.
00:39:14
Speaker
Well, that's that's exceptional. So I'm going to need you to take your, oh, it's not possible, doubting attitude and just put it back inside your pocket because... That's why saying it's not possible at this moment.
00:39:30
Speaker
Oh, at this moment, it just became possible. You understood what he takes out a journal. She opens it. And she starts writing some quick notes.
00:39:41
Speaker
And then she looks up at Gremly. Puts the pencil in the journal in one hand. In the other hand, she reaches out. Okay. As the shake. Okay. And he kind of puts his tentacle around your hand.
00:39:54
Speaker
Call me I.D. And you get like a like a little chuff and some happy emotions from that. I think we're going have a great time together.
00:40:05
Speaker
yeah And ah oh he says, I think you will, too. Gremly has been here, well, for almost as long as I've been here. And honestly, he would never harm a fly. He's fascinating and very curious and very friendly.
00:40:21
Speaker
And I knew. And he's kind of cute. I'm not going to lie. Yeah. Yeah, he he is quite charming. Little slimy, not so much a fan of that. But, you know, I'm probably not his cup of tea either.
00:40:36
Speaker
I'm sure doesn't feel that way. He just, looks over at Odie like... He kind of a curious head tilt from Gremly. You have no idea what he what he feels like, do you?
00:40:50
Speaker
Well, I mean, the most anyone can really get from their language is emotions. That's the most effective way they can... Anyone? yet no, no. no Anyone, not me. And she closes her journal with one hand and she like puts it back in her place that she keeps the journal.
00:41:07
Speaker
And she looks up at Gremly, rubs her chin a little bit. You know, there are some people you meet that just instantly you know that you despise.
00:41:19
Speaker
And that has been pretty much everyone I've ever met. But i will say, this guy, i think this guy will understand. After all, he's also blue.
00:41:33
Speaker
I guess you're okay, too. I'll ask that. He's like, well, ah but yes, ah as wonderful as Gremly is, no one else can know about him.
Maintaining Secrecy
00:41:42
Speaker
Yeah, okay, I get it. Plandestine operations. No one can know about me. No one can know about him. one can know about the fact that you have a i'm doing a secret key to open your door and you do all kinds of weird stuff and whatever. I'm doing with you here is, uh... Probably got break people locked up somewhere else. Bodies. What? I don't know.
00:42:04
Speaker
i'm just saying. It's all... all It's very... There's lots of secretive stuff going on. I mean, the fact that you're here is breaking a lot of rules. I know. And isn't it just wonderful?
00:42:16
Speaker
It's a little terrifying, but I'm sure we'll get through this together. Everything new is a little bit terrifying. It is. I mean, not to me.
00:42:28
Speaker
Nothing really scares me. Well, I mean, I was fully expecting you to be ah terrified of Gremlin. After all, as gentle as he is, he is quite imposing.
00:42:39
Speaker
What, did do you have some sort of weird, you know, dream where I freaked out? No, I just, ah I guess the scenario I had in my head was a little bit different, but I'm glad you two know each other now, and I'm sure you'll work quite well together.
00:42:53
Speaker
Oh, yes, we're going to do some great work together, because I'm going figure it out. I'm going figure it out, I'm going to break it down, and Gremly and i are going to be able to chat perfectly.
00:43:08
Speaker
Well, he teaches me magic. She says, sort of like, under her breath. And ah he kind of laughs, he says, uh, alright, well, I'm sure you'll learn a lot from Gremly eventually.
00:43:20
Speaker
Gremly, thank you very, very much. Sorry to disturb your nap. And, uh, he gives a little chuff, and he slides back into the water. Um, we'll talk about how exactly does Did that later, right?
00:43:40
Speaker
The... About the bomb?
Gremly's Magical Consumption
00:43:43
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, Grandma eats magic. um That's how be gains in size and power. mean, he eats a lot more than that, but magic is something he's able to digest. That is a concept that I'm going to have to sit on because that doesn't make sense to me quite yet. But...
00:44:05
Speaker
Well, as I said, magic is a form of energy. but um Hey, it's been a really frickin' long day.
Finding a Home on the Buzzard
00:44:18
Speaker
Yes, I was leading you ah to the back half of the buzzard where you can have your choice of rooms to sleep in. That sounds just wonderful. Lead on, my one-eyed friend.
00:44:32
Speaker
And he leads you up another set of stairs going up to the back. And it's not quite as high. It almost seems like this floor exists between the, like, second and, or ah third and fourth floor of this big aircraft. And you see there's only one ah door on ah this, like, partition that separates the cargo bay from the rest of the aircraft.
00:44:53
Speaker
And it goes down a um a single hallway. And you can see at dead ends, like, you know, good 30, 40 feet in front of you. But there's a bunch of doors to the right and left.
00:45:05
Speaker
And there's also a single hatch on the ground. It's like covered by a carpet, but you can see that the carpet's kind of like skewed. Like it hasn't been like maintained in a while. Like you can tell like, oh, he probably hasn't been back in this part of the aircraft for a long time.
00:45:20
Speaker
And you can see that this panel is locked, and he actually pulls that carpet back to show you. And he says, this is some of the original equipment for the aircraft. Again, something we should not touch. But any of these doors here, these are, i believe these used to be crew quarters, basically the staff of this aircraft. ah They lived back here in the tail section.
00:45:47
Speaker
Do you enjoy pointing things out to me that I can't touch? If you're going to be living here, i have to tell you things you cannot touch for your own safety. You told me not to touch anything. I told you you can go anywhere in this aircraft and touch as much as you want except for a few things.
00:46:05
Speaker
Anything that has a lock on it and the planar door and the planar door control room. That is it. When you first got here, I told you not to touch anything, but now that you're going to be staying here, I'm allowing you to access this entire craft except for ah very few places.
00:46:23
Speaker
We'll see how few that ends up being. Miss Heidi, I can take you home whenever I want. So please don't touch me. Her eyes go really wide and her mouth kind of open. Like, she wants to say, like, you bastard, right? But she doesn't. Like, she's just like... Like, you're the guest here.
00:46:41
Speaker
I see how it's gonna be. Until you are familiar. Nope. I'm not gonna touch anything. Duh. He opens up some doors and he shows you, like, all these rooms are essentially the same. they're like templates of each other.
00:46:52
Speaker
and They're like small hotel rooms. ah There's a bed. There's ah couch to sit on with a flat panel TV.
00:47:04
Speaker
There's ah like ah like a restroom in there, like a like small bathroom, shower. um It's like a small hotel room, and like a closet and everything. And he said, these are all fairly the same. Some of them are mirrored, but you're welcome to choose from any number of these.
00:47:23
Speaker
What is the state of the stuff in here? Because I'm pretty sure he looked at this once and then never again. But, like, no one's been living here, so it's, like, it's clean.
00:47:33
Speaker
It's like a fresh hotel room. There's no, it's not covered in dust or anything? No one's been living back here. There's no, like, where's the dust come from? I don't know, Janelle. Where does, the like, things you can find that are sealed away have dust on them, so you tell me.
00:47:47
Speaker
Well, usually from, like, critters and, like, decay, but, like, this place hasn't been decayed. Like, it's, it's... So it's been, like, vacuum sealed? Essentially, yeah. Okay. Yeah, so, like, it might smell like an old aircraft in here. Like, it just doesn't smell great. But, like, it's clean. It doesn't smell moldy. it doesn' smell musty. ah Despite having a tropical rainforest next door, it's not moldy at all.
00:48:11
Speaker
This particular room, ah like, is it obvious that someone had been in here, lived in here once? I mean...
00:48:21
Speaker
Let me make a flat roll to see what's in here. Well, that's a five. Oh. There's not a whole lot. I mean, ah you see on, like, there's, like, a um a small table where, like, you can sit down to eat something, and it's by the window. There's, like, porthole windows you can see, and you can see has, like, ah like a shutter on it, and um when you open it up, you can see elsewhere.
Gazing at the Planes
00:48:45
Speaker
You actually see way off in the distance when the sky is kind of cleaved in half, like, You can see a plane that's clearly on its like kind of an angle because its horizon is at an angle. And coming out of this horizon is a massive tower, which is a massive building.
00:49:04
Speaker
Far larger than you would imagine. like Nothing you've seen on your planet, that's for sure. But it reaches like high above the mountains. um You can see there's like almost like a mountainous horizon on this a plane, too. And it's casting kind of a goldish light across everything in front of it. So like there's this plane has its own sun that is casting an orange glow that's coming through and shining on another plane that you now know is Augman, that the plane the of the buzzard plane is sitting on.
00:49:34
Speaker
The grassy field that it's on. And there's also, like, you look at this table, there's a couple magazines on it. And it shows people. One of them is like a fashion magazine. It shows like an attractive woman on the front.
00:49:49
Speaker
And she's wearing this, you know, nice coat, jacket. And, you know, she has nice makeup on, nice eyes, nice hair. You know, like kind of like a pretty woman. And then there's an entertainment magazine. Like it's say like it looks like a sports magazine. Where you can see there's like football, baseball. Like Ogman's very similar to Earth. So they have all these sports. But you can see that these magazines,
00:50:12
Speaker
They almost have like a seal on them of some kind. And oh he looks at those he's like, oh, those are collectible. Those magazines, of I haven't seen printed magazines in Ogben in quite some time.
00:50:25
Speaker
I suppose people used to collect them before they were ah no longer needed.
00:50:32
Speaker
Do you want them? I have no use for them. But I suppose since their original owner has no use for them either.
00:50:43
Speaker
But do you want them? I do not. Okay. She like kind of goes over to the bed and like, is it made? Yeah. Okay. It's like whoever, whoever was last in here, like they might have made their bed every morning and they they just didn't come back.
00:51:02
Speaker
Whatever happened to them. So she kind of like brushes her hand on the the covers of the bed. Tries to feel if there's dusty or not. and Like if anything there's like a tiny bit but it's like nothing that's like gross.
00:51:15
Speaker
She kind of like pushes down on the the mattress. it's It's nice. It's a decent bed. It's not like a five star hotel but like it's... well I know what she was sleeping on before but... It wasn't a mattress.
00:51:32
Speaker
So she kind of like sits down on it.
00:51:36
Speaker
Huh. And then she leans back and lays down. Okay, yeah, this'll... This is fine for now. I'll...
00:51:49
Speaker
And her eyes start get like really heavy. Like, yeah, I'll... Look around when I get some rest. And uh, he says, um...
00:52:01
Speaker
Alright, uh, you have a pleasant evening, Maside. I will see you when you wake. And he closes the door
