ARP 016 - The Pros and Cons of Being a Long-time Online Freelancer

The internet is great when used wisely, many online freelancers like me are grateful for the opportunities that the internet provides. Online freelancing can be long-term, short-term, project-based, fixed-rate, or hourly. I’m one to experience all these setups in different clients. A long-term freelancing gig provides assurance that you will always have a paycheck every month. The question is, is there actually a downside to being a long-time online virtual assistant to just a single client?  In this episode, I am joined by Melo Celestrial,  a work-at-home-mom since 2011 who currently works as a Virtual Assistant/Customer Service Rep/Supervisor with a client based in Canada.

COVID-19 and Adapting to Home Setups

00:00:30
Speaker
It's been more than a year since COVID-19 hit. We were forced to stay at home for hours and our family's safety. During this time, many employers moved their business setup into home-based instead of office-based in order for the business to survive. On the other hand, online freelancers like me were grateful to have a job online when the pandemic hit.

project-project-lung, data-entry, cold-coding, marketing, marketing, and so on. I think it's important for us to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able to be able
00:04:52
Speaker
I think that China will invest in the computer, but China will invest more in the internet connection, because it's my client now. It's before the internet came to White Tribe. I don't know why it came to White Tribe, but China will invest in the computer, but China will invest more in the computer.
00:05:20
Speaker
Yes. So, in the end, I don't know how to say it, but it's a bit of a challenge for me, because I'm a client, but I don't know how to say it. I don't know how to say it, but I don't know how to say it. I don't know how to say it, but I don't know how to say it. I don't know how to say it, but I don't know how to say it. I don't know how to say it, but I don't know how to say it. I don't know how to say it, but I don't know how to say it. I don't know how to say it, but I don't know how to say it.

Two weeks ago, when I was a kid, I was a kid, and I didn't know anything about it. I was 2 years old, and I was a young girl. So I was a kid, but I didn't know anything about it. So I didn't know anything about it. So I didn't know anything about it. So I was like, I don't know anything about it. So I was like...
00:06:37
Speaker
So, again, in the first two years in Disha, in the old days,
00:06:58
Speaker
I'm going to be hiring for a virtual assistant. I'm going to be hiring for a virtual assistant.
00:07:17
Speaker
It's not between me and the client.
00:07:34
Speaker
I already resigned, but they're not part of the reason why I'm resigning. So, I'm going to help you for two hours, and I'm going to help you for two hours while you are searching for my replacement. I'm going to help you. And then, agency, I'm going to help you. I'm going to help you with virtual assistant, bookkeeping, and I'm going to help you.
00:08:18
Speaker
So, I'm actually torn between you and me.
00:08:23
Speaker
the bookkeeper can say, but I don't want to do a good job, you know? Yeah. Also, I will respect your dissension, whatever that is, but let me know. I can work with you for two hours in a day, for two weeks while you're looking for a replacement.
00:08:44
Speaker
Uh-oh, outside. Uh-oh, like directly.
00:09:14
Speaker
If you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me, if you're going to ask me,
00:09:43
Speaker

I refer to it as a wedding publishing company. And then the other one is a franchisee wedding fee wars. It's an invitation. I don't know if it's a souvenir or not. So I don't know if it's a business. It's a franchisee. And then the counterpart is a mother company. It's in South Canada.
00:10:14
Speaker
So, we don't know how to use it, but we don't know how to use it. We don't know how to use it. We don't know how to use it. We don't know how to use it. We don't know how to use it. We don't know how to use it. We don't know how to use it. We don't know how to use it. We don't know how to use it.
00:10:39
Speaker
I think it's important to deliver again. I think it's important to have a connection with the customer. I think it's important to have an order in customer service.
00:11:02
Speaker
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.
00:11:26

Nice, nice. There's nothing wrong with being a general VA. It's true. Customers support our customers. They support our customers. They support our customers. They support our customers. They support our customers. They support our customers. They support our customers. They support our customers. They support our customers. They support our customers.
00:11:51

I'm not a virtual assistant, but I don't know if I'm an FH mom or not. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.

And I said, because I don't know if I'm going to explore, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in 2018, but I don't know if I'm going to explore in

any time. Also, if you're going to think about it, I saw conventional offices in the Philippines. Yes.
00:12:45
Speaker
But it's a very good skill to develop and develop your own. You have to have an American client that has to be able to understand what's going on. You have to have an understanding of what's going on. You have to have an understanding of what's going on. You have to have an understanding of what's going on. You have to have an understanding of what's going on. You have to have an understanding of what's going on. You have to have an understanding of what's going on. You have to have an understanding of what's going on.
00:13:10
Speaker
I don't know how to make customer service. I don't know how to make it in the past, but I don't know how to make it. I don't know how to make it in the build-up code. I don't know how to make it in the build-up code. See you.
00:13:33
Speaker
That's the downside of having a long term client.
00:13:56
Speaker
I don't know what I'm going to say. I don't know what I'm going to say. I don't know what I'm going to say. I don't know what I'm going to say. I don't know what I'm going to say. I don't know what I'm going to say.
00:14:17
Speaker
Okay, let's talk about the FH month. I mean, I don't know. It's social media. Main graphics design. Oh my gosh, on graphics design. Oh my gosh. Speaking of that, no? I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.

00:15:32

I think that compared to the conventional office, I think that when I was a child, I was a child. For sure, I was a child. I was a child. I had a feeling that when I was a child, I was a child from home. For example, when I was a child, I was a child. When I was a child, I was a child.
00:16:12
Speaker
I agree. When I started, it was just $3 an hour.
00:16:29
Speaker
But we can't deny the new stepping stones that we have, especially in our customer support. It's the whole center. So, next night, we're going to put a temporary number of people in our customer service. Thank you, Mark. Thank you so much, Daddy. So, we're going to post cold calling, and then we're going to the same thing. Oh, she keeps her hand cold. We're going to post it, and then we're going to the same thing.
00:16:59
Speaker
Well, I know.
00:17:04
Speaker
Did you ever experience online lockdown? Did you ever experience that? People look down on you, especially since you are allowed there before.

Uh-oh. Can you do the job? What's the biggest challenge you have overcome as a work-from-home professional?
