We're here. We're there. We're ready. Let's do this. I'm ready. Let's go. Let's go. We're moving. We're moving. We're ready.

Introduction to Aerith and Characters

00:00:35
Speaker
Hello everyone and welcome to this week's episode of The Fellowship of the Tabletop. We are a live play 5e D&D podcast set in the magical home-brewed world of Aerith. My name is Mark and I am the Dungeon Master. And also with us for today's episode we have Casey, who plays the human champion, Hell in a Sleepguard. All right, you know the cunts. Oh, that one. That one. Wow. That was a broadside straight there. Jesus. And we've got Callum, who plays the name sorcerer, Folly Fizzlebank, the ninth. What's up, bitches? You've got Will, who plays the human bad castan.
00:01:04
Speaker
Sup, mother truckers? We've got Ian who plays the Dragon Ball Barbarian powered in Drago! What up? Danny who plays the human cloak, Claude! On tour, you bag of dicks!
00:01:16
Speaker
And we've got Darren who plays the human fighter, Rogue Robin. Hello, listeners. I care about you. I feel as if you've gotten some stick here. You've been with us for 98 episodes. Thank you. How are you all? Please, please, please don't pay attention to the rudeness of... Wow. There are some serious bants flying around the room if you can call about, or just meat. Bag of dicks wins. I think Casey's opening was the most... I wasn't expecting that. That blindsided me.
00:01:44
Speaker
Maybe someone's listening to it, they've got up in the morning, they're about to have a shower. They don't want to be stood in the shower until they get a sea bomb. I want a question, Will. Do you think the majority of our listeners listen to this in the shower? I'm just trying to think of this. It's like they do it, you're insinuating. Will, how do you think podcasts are consumed?
00:02:05
Speaker
In the shower, clearly for Will, that's what he does. He gets up in the morning, he puts on his favourite podcast, he gets naked, strips down, loafers up and fucking studs, studs are plenty. But Gregory, if you are listening to us in the shower, yes Gregory, we know it's you, you missed a bit.
00:02:24
Speaker
If you are a normal everyday morning thing that people did. If you're in the shower right now, I hope you're having a fantastic shower. And give one to yourself from us. Yeah, you deserve it. It's been a hell of a year. To everyone at the Fellowship, that is from us to you. Enjoy. I hope it's a fantastic experience. If you're just out of the toilet at this stage, cool, keep pushing.
00:02:49
Speaker
Wow, we're going through everything. I can't help you there. Yeah, that's obviously what Will does. I hope pre-shower, because why would you do it after shower? Yeah, yeah. It's true, yeah. You could also, though, if you are currently mid-ablution, you could also hike your legs up, put your feet on the toilet, get a really good deep squat in that bad boy. Apparently, it helps. Gollum it. Gollum. Do a Gollum. Wow.
00:03:14
Speaker
Anyway, right. What the hell? What is this? What we doing here? D&D. What even happened last week? You know what? Not a lot.

Recap of Fratricide Event

00:03:23
Speaker
Do tell us. Except that we had, here we go, we had fratricide. Boom. That's your word of the week. That's my word of the week. We had a bit of fratricide.
00:03:34
Speaker
Yeah, which is the death of a brother, killing a brother. We had the eventual sad ending of Kelsan, the cartographer, as his brother, who had been searching for an advanced skull blade, plunged his sword into his chest, ending his brother's life, putting him out of the misery.
00:03:55
Speaker
that had surrounded him since his eventual fall towards that of Grazo. The body of Kelsun stays within the cave, the tunnel on which the adventurers have just travelled through, and the majority of us sit. No? Where's the body? No, I took the body. The body's where do I go? Okay, sorry. So the body's with you, but we find ourselves on a

Mission Briefing and Environmental Description

00:04:18
Speaker
kind of almost an advantage point, a looking point over the scene in front of us, which if you need to hear again, I'll go back and listen to the end of our previous episode, but we have reached the tower. We have reached the tower of Helena and Claude's, or Helena's dreams, but Claude was there also. We see in front of them the swathes of the enemies that they need to pass through to get to this tower and to end the blight.
00:04:46
Speaker
We were also told, listener, just to remind you that we had three sites that Claude's idea, it was Claude's idea, wanted to set up three sites in order to bring through the armies of the living to help fight this current force so that we could kind of get ourselves through towards the tower, cause a bit of a distraction. Vance liked the idea and came through to scout and decided on three pivotal locations that if we could secure that
00:05:13
Speaker
he could get in some mages to set up these permanent portals through to bring forth the armies of the living from the surge through to the obsidianus for the acryscra and basically cause a distraction and these three sites you can see from your current vantage point looking up and out. The air is warm
00:05:36
Speaker
It feels like almost you're near a volcano or some sort of form of heat, like you're opening an oven almost. There's a temperature that seems to have really adjusted since making your way through the Blightlands here. You can see still off in the distance the place now aptly known as Brittle Star, but was what was known as Svenberg Citadel with a giant swirling ring of energy that's formed around it, pulsing, sparking.
00:06:02
Speaker
um kind of far off in the distance with this dragon on the far side kind of circling around the dragon that had been previously mentioned and as you look around the tower those hordes of enemies are still there and you can see some of them from your distance point
00:06:19
Speaker
are not all undead they seem to have been called upon they seem to have called upon different types of creatures this entity this lurking power of evil in the middle of sleep guard and you can see creatures that aren't of the living but are not of the dead either scuttling around like ants or moving as one like a school of fish across the surface of the the blight lands
00:06:46
Speaker
you stand on the edge looking out over. And as I mentioned in the previous episode, you can see to your right, there is a slight divot down. It's quite a sheer cliff that you're standing on the edge of. It's probably about 300 feet down. Though to the side, there is a slight path leading down the side of the mountain, which could get you into this almost basin-esque area, which is the kind of the end game, the center of the blight.

Confrontation Preparations and Resurrection Debate

00:07:18
Speaker
Vance is still quietly looking out, sunk to his knees, staring out into the hordes of the undead of the Blight that he can see in front of him. Lucian is stood back, kind of cleaning himself, preparing his mace hand. And there's a moment of silence as everyone starts to take in the scene in front of them.
00:07:47
Speaker
Is there anything anyone would like to do? Yes, as we've entered into this area and we've seen everything that you so beautifully described there, are the enemies noticing us or are we in this part of the map where they're all there doing their thing? We're quite far away still.
00:08:10
Speaker
And so they're not aware of our presence. Or have they noticed that this party has just kind of come through the cavern? That's a good question. No, they have no recollection of it. I'm mainly giving you the sight that Kastan can see if we're being honest. He has the highest perception. So I've given it to you from Kastan's perspective.
00:08:29
Speaker
You are quite some distance away from it. I don't want to put exact number on it because I know. No, no, that's fine. That's fine. But no one has noticed you. You're quite high up. There are a number of shrubs and bushes in front of you as well. So it's not like you just stepped out into like, you know, a Lion King style onto the edge of the rock and everyone can see you. It's an obscure place on the edge as well. So you're kind of looking into the bowl of it rather than being kind of near the middle.
00:08:55
Speaker
So everyone's more interested in what's inside rather than what's outside. Why would you have anything to fear? So no, from your current locale, there isn't any screaming hordes running towards you at all. The different groups and plethora of enemies you can see are all busy, from your vantage point, busy getting on with evil machinations. Sound-wise, is it quite quiet?
00:09:19
Speaker
Or is there, what can we hear around us? Mainly the echoes of what's below, but it becomes almost a light groan from your distance of just general noise, general cacophony. It's nothing, nothing breaks through in particular. And there are kind of dips in this volume and then rises in it as well. But nothing, you might think that might just be the voices carrying on the wind or the noises of this many individuals moving.
00:09:46
Speaker
Okay, so Drago's there and he's taken in everything that you said and obviously he's got his friends around him. He's got Vance, Lucian, but he's also holding the dead body of Kelsan, the cartographic wonder. So painfully aware that we are also in need of the book, The World Away, which Kelsan's, we assume is still on his body. Drago's going to take Kelsan
00:10:16
Speaker
look towards Vayne and also a sideways look towards Claude.
00:10:32
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Sorry. Did I say vain? Is it Vance? My apologies. So sideways look at Claude and a purposeful look at Vance, not vain. I'm going to just put your brother down by the cliffside on the rocks. And I don't see any, any apt place. Why don't we, and I'll look sort of picking up your vibe and look at Vance perform on
00:11:03
Speaker
ascending of sorts and I'll just kneel by Kelsan's head and I'll begin to cast gentle repose, the thing that stops people from turning to undead.
00:11:19
Speaker
Claude has a great gift and commune with quite a powerful being and God. So if... May I ask a favour before we start to do this? Folly, do you have the map that Kelsang gave us? I believe I have it somewhere. Why? I would like it, please.
00:11:49
Speaker
Very well. Of course, we're asking your permission here, Vance, if you're OK with us. I mean, is there anything you'd like to do or any words you'd like to say? Or are you happy for Claude to essentially make sure the essence of Kelsan is preserved and he goes where he needs to go? Without turning his head or looking away, he just nods his head.
00:12:18
Speaker
Claude will just take a deep inhalation of breath and begin casting the ritual. It doesn't take fully long to find the map. It's obviously embedded and he just hands it over to Robin. Robin will walk over to Claude and Drago and the body of Kelsan and solemnly without saying anything will just say
00:12:42
Speaker
doesn't seem right to take something from this man without returning something. We have no need for this anymore. And Robin will just kneel down and we'll just rest the map that Kelsan gave us, our guide to Aerith on Kelsan's chest. And we'll just say, not one for farewells, but
00:13:10
Speaker
Thank you for, well, I suppose, thank you for showing us the way, Kelso. And I'll just turn away from the ritual and head back to the vista of terror that is the lowest. Robbie. Yes. It's a very beautiful thing you said. Just thought it worth asking,
00:13:40
Speaker
Do you want me to just bring him back to life? What kelp then? Yeah, that seems like a nice thing to do. I'll give you a life back, give us a book. Is that going to work? He seemed quite adamant that death was the only release from what was tormenting him. Yes. Can you bring him back? So he's had a death. Like reset button. Here you go. Back to life.
00:14:12
Speaker
I can't see why you wouldn't. I mean, I've got 10 days to make up our mind if we want to lie. No, I don't see any issues in this whatsoever. No, nor do I. And also he holds quite valuable information. If he doesn't have the recording, then we could be screwed. I'll look at Vance and just say, is this going to do anything other than torment him? And what do you know about bringing him back? How do you feel about this?

Comedic Retrieval and Artistic Reflection

00:14:39
Speaker
Vance very slowly stands up at this whilst his conversation is taking place and turns away with his back to the hordes of the undead behind him. He draws his sword
00:14:49
Speaker
wipes it calmly on the ground and front, and starts walking with purpose straight towards Claude. Claude, as he starts to approach you, as you see him, he starts to pick up pace, eyes locked in on you, sword in his right hand, his right handed, and for a flash of second, you see these wings start to appear behind his back, ever so slightly as the rage builds in him, and he grabs you by the throat,
00:15:19
Speaker
gate and says, are you a whole person? If he's grabbed Claude by the throat, you better fucking believe I'm going to try. I'll just raise a hand to Folly as though I don't mind this. OK, so Folly's in the middle of casting said spell, but if Claude is going to raise a hand to stop it, Claude is very much on guard at this point. Vances is going to quietly, almost just to you, Claude, say,
00:15:51
Speaker
He made his mind up. One life is more than enough. Let him rest, or I'll make you rest. He's gonna release, sheath the sword, and return to his kind of position over the vista of terror, as Darren so aptly put. Seems like blessing of sending to the afterlife it is, then.
00:16:19
Speaker
And I'll just- That was a no, I'm guessing. Yeah, I'll just clear my throat and just turn back and do the original plan of just protecting him from turning undead. Hey, Folly. Yes? You want to grab the book while you're there? I'm just reaching. Grab the book. Yeah, Folly's kind of looking at Jargos as that. I'm sorry, you want me to loot
00:16:46
Speaker
his body while his brothers just kind of stood over there? Yeah, while his brother just stood over there, he almost, yeah, just grabbed the book. Damn. You're the smallest one, just grabbed the book. Folly, we're not going to end this without it. It's not a democracy. Just touch the damn corpse, Folly. No, for fizzle bang's sake!
00:17:12
Speaker
Folly, is his brother looking at Kalsan at the moment? No, he's looking away at the sight of the undead, of the Blight.
00:17:26
Speaker
Folly is almost like very hesitantly and very sheepishly at this point, just kind of tiptoeing. He doesn't want to create any noise whatsoever that may cause him to turn. That sounds like a stealth check, Callum. Oh, fuck. Can I have a stealth check, please? I've already rolled this perception, don't worry. Ha! 22. Yeah, you're fine. Yeah, continue.
00:17:49
Speaker
Yeah, he's basically very cautiously approaching, doesn't want any noise, and literally as he gets to the body, he's basically trying to pad down the outer parts of him just to try and find... I didn't say touch him, I said grab the book. We've not found the book yet though. We've assumed it's on his person somewhere, but we've not actually... Is that Folly talking to Drago or is that Callum talking to Drago? Hold on, hold on, hold on.
00:18:19
Speaker
We've not actually found the book yet. Oh, I just found the book. I just assumed it's not here. Just take the book. How hard can it be? What? Why did you come over here and then do it, you goddamn dragonborn? I'm just, I'm just protecting at the moment. Doctor, I'll bloody protect you. What? That makes no sense. I don't know. I'm feeding up a corpse right now.
00:18:45
Speaker
Robin is just going to look along the line at everyone else. He's still looking out across the vista of terror and he's just going to have an embarrassed look on his face, which is yes, this is much more dignified. Yeah, follow you still just kind of patting him down trying to find the shape of what could possibly a book investigation check, please. I'm going to get a natural one on this now. I'm sure of it.
00:19:11
Speaker
Oh, no, 21. I mean, it was a low DC, yeah. As you're running your hands down across his body, aiming mainly for pocket areas, you notice there is a small inlet pocket within his jacket in the inside, nearest to his heart, actually, as well. And as you reach in, you realize there's a rather hefty book in there.
00:19:34
Speaker
as you pull it out you do indeed it is a book it is a book on his person it's a dusty black book with etchings around the edges and red kind of almost it looks almost like it's glowing text which is illegible to to yourself folly however scratched into the middle almost with a knife by the looks of things are the words in common the world away
00:20:00
Speaker
Okay, so Folly is going to kind of grab it quickly and then just kind of slide it under his own jacket to a certain extent and then just trying to walk away as quickly as possible he can. He's staring at Dragos. They don't go, I've got the bloody book. Why are you angry at me for it? We need this to end the blight. Why did you go get the damn thing? I trusted you to get it. I thought you could do it better. Why would I do it better?
00:20:24
Speaker
Sometimes I've got to rely on other people. I was seeing if you could step up or down in your case. Either way, it doesn't matter. We've got the book well done. Claude, how are you doing? Yeah, I need nine more minutes. Well, Folly, why didn't you just take longer? I don't know. I didn't. I didn't. It was going to take 10 minutes, this blasted spell. Lord, I might have been instantaneous. Yes. And that is where we differ in the little man.
00:20:54
Speaker
Time delay on spells, I'd never heard of such a thing. He's gonna wait there in nine minutes. Yeah, pretty much. So in the meantime, just to say that I'm bickering about this, so Carson's gonna have been sat sort of overlooking the valley and he's just doing a sketch. So he's doing like he did when he was in the sky carts. He's doing a sketch of what they're seeing.
00:21:21
Speaker
Nice. Do you want to give me a roll for that? Or did we get a roll last time, didn't we? What was it? Performance, is it? Yeah, well, go on. Give me performance. It's not my best roll. 17. OK. What are you using for this? What's your material of choice? I'm just using just some charcoal from my pouches and just, yeah.
00:21:49
Speaker
It's a slightly abstract but quite horrific depiction of it in a good way, horrific, as in it matches the scene you see in front of you. You're trying to catch in it the movement, the light. And you do a really good job of it, actually. It'd be worth quite a bit if you sold it to a couple of budding painting buyers in the city, probably. So it's a really good depiction of it as well.
00:22:16
Speaker
Uh, Lucian's going to come and just kind of sit or kind of peer over your shoulder whilst you're doing that. You're a bloody good artist. Just, uh, it's just something I dabble in. It's just, I thought, you know, for the book or the story, I might as well just have a few sketches to add to it. Let's just hope it has a happy ending. I hope so too.
00:22:45
Speaker
Me too. It'll be all good, right? Yeah, we'll see. And he's going to turn and put a hand on Vance's shoulder and just kind of say, it's been nine and a half minutes. It's almost time. And Vance will nod and stand. Thank you, Mr. Dogwatch. And turn to the group. And
00:23:16
Speaker
Catch all your eyes, first of all. Get your attention. There are three places we need to hold in order to bring in the forces of the living. The first one is there. It points down the cliff, down to the base of the cliff, pretty much directly below you, but probably about two, 300 meters out, but from what your location seems almost just below you. Down there is an encampment
00:23:47
Speaker
I don't know what they are, goblins or something. It's a prime location, it's protected by a smaller divot, by a cliff. We could bring forces in, set up a perimeter, and bring in some of our... I don't know, siege equipment if we need it, or anything like that. Our cavalry as well. That's gonna be our first place to enter. The next two, and he points one to the right from where you are, and one to the left, are more difficult.
00:24:18
Speaker
I don't know what we're going to find there, but again, it's similar in terms of location. It's a protected place. We could protect the mages. We could set up a portal and we could bring in the forces. We need all three. The more we have, the more speed we can bring to this fight. We cannot fail. If we fail at this, it's hopeless.

Tactical Planning Against Goblins

00:24:47
Speaker
Um, question, General. If we take one of these, are we then limited in like a time fashion to get the other ones quick as possible? Like, you know, if we went down and dealt with the camp and then something went wrong, do we got to quickly go and take the other ones? Are we needing to like divide ourselves? Are you sized at that? No.
00:25:16
Speaker
I'd say tackle each camp as it comes. I will stay up here and keep watch. And as and when we clear them, as and when you clear them, I will send messages back to the mages, the abcriska mages to come through on my location. Stay together. We don't have to take these all at once. The first one
00:25:38
Speaker
And he points down and you can see off in the distance now, you can see what he's kind of talking about. There's a large kind of C-shaped rock.
00:25:47
Speaker
that's juts out of the ground and then there's like a basin that sits lower in it as well where there is a small camp with a couple of tents, some barrels and a bit of a palisade built. It's a good location because it's only got two entrances and again bits of palisades have been built in those areas as well. Quite a decent size, perfect location to store or to kind of start bringing an army through. However, on the far side of it, on the highest point, there is a large stacked pile of wood and that's what he's pointing to.
00:26:18
Speaker
Those goblins won't set much of a fight for you. But if they light that fire, everyone will know there's a problem. And they'll all come looking for you. And yes, then we will be massively limited in time. Get down there. Clear them out. Don't let them light the fire. So just to clarify, no fire?
00:26:39
Speaker
don't let them light that fire. And it's like, from your location, Kastan, it's probably a 30-foot stack of fire designed to be like an alarm system. So there are other fires dotted around, there's smoke across the entire place. You can use fire, Folly, you can use fire. I was gonna say no. I was just gonna go with it. Kastan asked that question. Drago would do a pointed look at Folly when Kastan was like, no fire.
00:27:05
Speaker
No, the fire's fine. So just to matter this a little bit for you guys, it's a case of go in, clear the forces, stop them running to light the fire. And that's it. Once the location is secured, you can then send a sending message or a scribe, whatever you want to advance and secure that place. Again, if you do a good job of it, there's no reason why you couldn't rest there.
00:27:33
Speaker
If you do a bad job of it, time becomes apparently much tighter and your decisions must be much quicker and your rest becomes much more limited. This is a case of control. They got fuck all HP, really low AC, but there are quite a few of them. So he explains that to you as I half did his Vance and half did his Mark. He finishes and kind of looks to the group
00:28:04
Speaker
Are there any questions? Especially for this first one. Like I said, the other two, you're gonna have to figure them out yourself. I don't know what's there. Everyone good? I was just wondering if Lucian's gonna stay with you, Bart. He shrugs his head slightly and looks around. Oh my god, I've already given you the map. Get off there.
00:28:32
Speaker
I thought I was enjoying that. No, I'll give a hell of a map, sorry. He shrugs, lifts his shoulders slightly and looks towards Lucien. It's your call. Where do you want to go? He looks to the rest of you. I'll come with you. If that's okay. If you'll have me. Claude? I'm just going to turn and whisper in hell as it is. We might need
00:29:03
Speaker
full strength you're suggesting him stay here yeah don't tell him this because he's my best friend but you're the better fighter right but listen how about you stay here instead and keep your strength for one we might need it most
00:29:28
Speaker
Okay. No, that makes sense. I'll stay up with Vance. He's got the better eyes anyway. And if I see, if I see you and die straight, so I'll make my way down. Once I see the armies coming through, then I will definitely be down by your side. Great. Very well. And I'm just going to smile at her.
00:29:49
Speaker
And thank you, Claude, for allowing me to remove some NPCs from combat. Thank you, Cainley. Cool. Helena, as she walks past Claude, just sort of, I say, admiring the view, but not necessarily admiring much, just sussing it out more so, she'll just mutter under her breath, best friend indeed.
00:30:13
Speaker
Nice. So is there anything else that wants to take place? Lucian and Vance start looking at and muttering to themselves. They're giving you a knowing good luck to you all and left you to your own volition. They take a couple of steps off and start discussing what they can see off in the distance. Scheming, planning, battle maneuvers, et cetera. What do you guys want to do?
00:30:36
Speaker
So are we able to see this camp from our position, yeah? Yes, you can kind of make it out mainly just you, Karsten, but as you get closer, of course, I'll give you a proper description. And is that a bowl? Is it sat in a bowl? It is sat in a bowl below, yes, it is. And the blighters to the north...
00:30:55
Speaker
west and so it's basically it'd be a perfect place because it's kind of hidden so if you would open a big ass portal there and start bringing through forces you wouldn't be seen so it's a it's a prime location this one especially a prime location to get a big big couple of portals set up so i'm guessing we're going to want to go in a bit quietly what what does everyone think well you can see the camp why don't you explain to us what we should do well from what i can see
00:31:24
Speaker
It looks like, unless Mark's going to want to intercede here, I'm just going to describe what I can see. I was just going to let you get a bit closer if you wanted to walk down, but I can describe it to you now if you want. Yeah, I'll... It's up to you. I mean, Carston can see, so I didn't know if as we're walking, Carston will describe it and... Well, I'll give you, as you're walking, because I know what all the little weird blobs are and I'm thinking... This is what Carston will be saying to you.
00:31:48
Speaker
As you're walking down and you're taking the single column, single file routes down the cliff edge in a relatively safe passageway, you start to see that the ground is that of almost a dusty, desert-y colour. It's that baron of water that it started to desertify, if that's a word.
00:32:07
Speaker
There are large trees, though, that still continue to grow, or at least were continuing to grow, but have since died. So all the large green shrubs are actually quite tall trees. I forgot this last time. Bark thing. What's it called? The main part of the tree. The trunk. What happened this last time? The trunk of the tree is about five foot wide, so they're pretty hefty trees for each one of them, just in terms of cover.
00:32:34
Speaker
In front of you, you can see a makeshift encampment set up by goblins. These goblins seem to have obviously wanted to have joined the winning side from their opinion and have set up camp on the outside willing to make friends with those evil machinations. There are two entrances, like I said, one to the east and one to the south. All other locations are probably about 50 to 60 foot cliff.
00:33:00
Speaker
They have set up some kind of rudimentary palisade, limiting the gap to both these entrances down to about 15 feet with guards, two armed goblins on each doorway. There are a number of fires inside with goblins standing around and you can hear them as you start to get closer, their voices, their conversation gnashing away to each other. On the far side, like I said, there are two relatively large
00:33:25
Speaker
tent-like features that have been set up for them to rest or to plan or to do something with a number of large stacks of barrels for supplies, water, etc. or grog set up as well. On the far east side under the cliff edge closest to the fire, but actually in fact the furthest away because you'd have to walk out to get around, a number of almost a sleeping war in an area where a number of goblins seem to be resting.
00:33:53
Speaker
You enter in from the southeast area of the map. At the moment, as you continue to walk down, you can start to see now their locations and more what these creatures look like to a better degree.
00:34:08
Speaker
You see a number of these goblins, and you've seen goblins before, almost all of you, pointed ears, strong features, bright yellow almost teeth with a red tongue, all of them lightly armed with short swords or daggers.
00:34:25
Speaker
and a red hood sits over their face, allowing their ears to stick out. Their skin seems to have been a light green at some point, but it's become tarnished in grey and blackened by the soot, the uncleanliness of the area and the lack of water that's readily on supply.
00:34:42
Speaker
There is also kind of a red loincloth covering their kind of midsection and a pair of shoes on each of them as well kind of high leather shoes again very very worn out. Many of them wear similar attire to this in different colors or slightly different takes but all of them seem to share that similar look.
00:35:01
Speaker
A few of them have some bows on their backs, but all of them are armed with some kind of martial melee weapon, a sword, a dagger, a dirk, a scimitar, something along those lines. All sheathed at the moment, all busy working at what they're doing, which is setting up a camp by the looks of things and arguing amongst themselves.
00:35:20
Speaker
What do you want to do? You're probably now, sorry, you're probably now probably 50, 60, 70 feet, how far you want to be away from them. None of them have noticed you so far. You had a good location. So about where we are on the actual battle map itself. Yeah, pretty much. I have an idea if anyone would like to hear it. OK. Yes, Robin, I was wondering perhaps your expertise would be particularly useful here. Well, the way I see it,
00:35:51
Speaker
and actually, no, let's utilise our strength here. Karstan, can you see any way they can get up to that fire without coming out the front of that fort? It appears to be divvied in. Mark? Thank you.
00:36:08
Speaker
Haven't you got a bird? I do, but I'm utilising my good friend Karsten. No, I'm just wondering. Remember the last time he used the bird over Karsten? It went pretty terribly, yes. Very true. 21 or a password 28.
00:36:23
Speaker
there is no way this is sheer cliff face they haven't figured out any kind of rope ladders or ropes or anything like that it's just sheer cliff face all the way around you infer from that cast down that they would have to leave the palisade through one of the two exits to the east or to the south and then run round the edge of the cliff up the edge of the cliff in order to reach the the large stack of wood on top
00:36:51
Speaker
Yeah, they don't look like they can climb the cliff. It looks like they've got to leave via the around the palisade walls. But I mean, they're goblins. They can be a bit cunning. So they could, I suppose, like light some arrows on fire and light the torch from the ground with arrows. But I mean, I don't know, that might happen. But otherwise, they've got to literally leave their camp to get to the beacon.
00:37:14
Speaker
Here's the plan that I have. We go for the entrance to the south. If they break from the east, they're going to have to come south or work the long way round north to get to the fire. I agree.
00:37:26
Speaker
If you, Helena and Drago, take point in engaging them front on, Claude and Folly can support and assist with magic. Myself and Castan go round to the beacon. I'll have a good ledge of the cliff from there. I'll be able to cast message if it looks like anyone is breaking loose. Castan will be able to keep eye as well. If any of them get too close to the beacon, Castan can do to them what he did to me.
00:37:54
Speaker
when we were fighting the agents of Del Montrese. I have a question. Go on. I'm not sure about leaving an entrance completely unguarded.
00:38:07
Speaker
if they run down the south like you said we can hit them hard but if we leave east totally uncovered it doesn't seem like it's that far of a run for them to get to the wood i love your plan maybe send a person or a couple of people
00:38:26
Speaker
over on the east and maybe there's some sort of signal we can do and we can push in together. I'll look at folly and go is there anything you can put there to stop them using that gate?
00:38:40
Speaker
There would be anything I could put there, but I could certainly make it very difficult for them. And he's just going to open his hand and just bring in a little bit of flame as well, obviously, implying he was going to create a nice little barrier of flame and brimstone. They've got five down there. I don't see why your fire would incur in the difference. There is another suggestion if you want to conserve our
00:39:07
Speaker
our resources. We could, Folly and I could position ourselves on the cliff down to the sort of southeast and then you know two of you take on the south entrance, two of you take on the eastern entrance and Folly and I with our magic can provide cover to both groups and that should divide the goblin forces but also give both Folly and I a nice overwatch for the whole area because the last thing we want to do is spend all our stuff
00:39:34
Speaker
Yeah, that's a great plan. Why don't Helena and Drago, you take the south, Robin, you and me can take the east, and you two can get on the cliff edge.
00:39:43
Speaker
I would sooner make my way round to that beacon. I can cause damage from being at the beacon and I can server the last line of defence if any of them get through. I mean, Helena's really strong and I'm pretty okay. How about we just each take an entrance and we have magical support either way. Yeah, okay. And if you get me to the middle of everything, then I can still keep an eye on Robin, at the same time keep an eye on Carvan and Fogbob. Yep, let's do it.
00:40:13
Speaker
I will wrap a bit of copper around my finger, a bit of copper, and I will just say, I will cast message to any of you if I need assistance at the beacon. I'll wrap my finger on a piece of string. Okay. So can I just clarify, if I'm going south, can Folly, you come with me? Yeah, absolutely, my lady. Cast Anne with me to the beacon, cast Anne with me to the beacon, and then... That's what I'm thinking, and Drago, you'll be with Claude.
00:40:44
Speaker
But what I mean is the cliff edge gives us the chance for, you know, both Folly and I could stand there and be able to support both sides.
00:40:54
Speaker
I think if Folly goes to the east gate he'll be able to do that anyway and I'm going to be much more useful with the bow. Well Folly was coming south, you would prefer him to go to the east? Well Folly will have a good sight of the battlefield then. If Claude is spent and we think the south is where magic will be in the east, Claude should go south with you. Well then Claude, Folly and you can swap then. Okay. Right.
00:41:18
Speaker
And Castan, you can protect Robin. This is very confusing.
00:41:28
Speaker
Sounds good. OK, Drago, I'll be sure to not hit you this time. Point of order. You're giving me the guy that literally threw dragon's teeth at me last time. Hey, I didn't give you folly. I gave you Claude, but it seemed better that he comes with me, so... Punch him again. Punch him again.
00:41:49
Speaker
We don't need to go down this. I agree with everything everyone said, but Castan, maybe you can stay where you said while Robin goes to the beacon, you've got all four points covered. If you're saying, Castan, that you're able from that position on the cliff to cover both entrances, maybe you're best off staying there and Robin at the beacon. I'll keep an eye on Robin from a distance. He'll be all right.
00:42:22
Speaker
My only logic about Castan coming with me is that I know what he can do as a last-ditch save. It stopped me and my tracks and we may need it to stop one of them as well. Well, don't, you know, put your own skills down, mate. You're equally as useful. Absolutely. And like you said, we do our jobs, we are successful. If there's any problems, just jump off.
00:42:47
Speaker
And I'll catch you. Good plan. Yeah. Okay. Let me know that idea. Okay. Please, please, Holly, don't throw a dragon seed for me. Did I have other things in mind for this? Not at me, though. Yeah. Other things in mind surrounding everyone but me, right? Just that long you don't get in the way of them, then no. I wasn't in the way last time. Holly, reassure him he's very fragile right now.
00:43:19
Speaker
Folly's gotta go, gotta walk up and go, it's fine, Drago. Don't touch me. Don't touch me. Don't touch me. You won't get hurt. It's fine. It's fine. Give me a deception check, please, Folly. Is it a deception if I don't know for definite, if I'm, if I'm going to hit it. Also, I don't believe him regardless. Oh, okay. There's more flavor. Don't worry about it. Um, about 21 anyway. Well, you know,
00:43:44
Speaker
You're a deceptive boat. It's a roll off to try and, you know... I'm not rolling off for this flavour. Alright, we're all set. We've got our plan. We're ready to rock and roll. Yeah? Okay. Hell yes. So you find yourselves about 50 feet out from the edge of the cliff closest to the encampment.
00:44:04
Speaker
We'll put you in initiative order and then it's up to you really how you want to do this. Turn by turn, you do what you want to do. If you want to be stealthy, we'll be rolling stealth checks at the start of your terms.
00:44:16
Speaker
For those of you that can't see the map, which is everyone listening at home or wherever you are in the shower or on the loo, as Will said, there are a couple of trees dotted before they get to that location. That's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Nine or 10 trees dotted throughout the map. The main portion of this map is taken up by this large encampment with, I think I've counted it as 22 visible goblins you can see on the map there to stop there.

Stealth and Combat Initiation

00:44:42
Speaker
their journey up to the to the beacons so um i'm gonna have you in initiative order so could you all please roll initiative we're gonna put the goblins in one old one one initiative roll of their own because otherwise it would be hell on earth okay uh did anyone get 20 plus yes yes okay oh christ you're bloody good uh who got the highest then who did anyone get 25 plus no
00:45:12
Speaker
No, so we're all in 24 to 20. 24? Yes. Who's that cast on? Karban. Of course it was. Lovely, top of the round. Then 23? 22? Yep. Yes. All three of you. Yep. Right, what's your deck? Robbie, it'll be first. Yeah, my deck's Eric's five.
00:45:36
Speaker
What's your deck mind three? Mine's also three to roll on we got a roll off roll off Just give me a d20 doesn't really matter Okay, it matters to me. I don't want to get hit 18 Out five Then anyone
00:46:05
Speaker
anyone there fifteen to twenty yet would you get eighteen what's your next modifier uh... plus two okay thank you and then is there anyone else called nine someone's very tired after all this spell cast a slow boy you just say no
00:46:35
Speaker
Okay, so we've got you in order now. You find yourselves on the edge. Your plan is now set. We hit initiative. What are you going to do? Cast on top of the round? Are we about where my character is on the map? She said 15 feet away from the bowl. 50, sorry, 5-0. So you're pretty much at the edge of the map where... Thank you. Sorry, I thought you said 15. No, that's my bad elocution, unfortunately.
00:47:03
Speaker
Am I able to hold a move action? Interesting question. Yes. You're the one with the rolls. Well, you can hold. So well, it's an interesting one. So my action will be because I'm actually ahead of the order. You can voluntarily drop yourself down in the order.
00:47:24
Speaker
But is that permanently or is that just ground? Yes, yes. No, it's permanently. OK. Now, in that case, I'm going to wait until Darren moves and Carson will follow behind Robin. Behind Robin. That's my action. That's my ready action. I'm fine with that. That's absolutely fine. When Robin moves, Carson will follow. Lovely. Thank you, Robin. Carson doesn't move. Well, you wouldn't know that. You're just going. What do you want to do? Robin will just glance at the party and he will say,
00:47:54
Speaker
I'm gonna take the two outliers out there down south. Strike fast, strike true, good luck. And Robin is going to start moving stealthily in that direction. I'm gonna use the bonus action to dash, so that's gonna get me to about there. And I'm there. So moving directly west. Yes, towards those two goblins that I'd be directly to the southwest of the map.
00:48:22
Speaker
So yeah, there's two that are quite far out to the Palisade to the south that look like they're just coming in from a patrol, probably. Could you give me a stealth check as well, please, Robin? Yeah, I never get to do this and I'm actually really good at it. So that's 20 not natural. Yeah, thank you. And I've had Cass follow behind him, but not using Lee.
00:48:51
Speaker
dash action. Absolutely. Brilliant. So you've got Davey behind you. Yeah, Robin is going to instead take the hide action and get behind the tree here.
00:49:09
Speaker
use the rest of his I've done my sixty feet haven't I can't do that. I can double dash I suppose but that would then just press me up against the tree. There won't be any attempt to hide. Okay. What I will do is I will send Nura out of the pocket plane and Nura is going to land on the tree branch and as that happens, I'm going to
00:49:40
Speaker
send two quick arrows at these goblins. Is it an action to summon your familiar? Not if she's in the pocket playing. Oh, it's a bonus action, so I can't do that. Yeah, okay. I don't summon Nura. Okay. Instead, what I'm going to do is
00:50:04
Speaker
I know none of the others can get in range if I mess up. So what I'm going to do is I am going to use my battle wild and I am. I've taken the dash action once. I'm going to take it again and just get to the tree. And that's me done.
00:50:25
Speaker
OK, thank you very much. With Karstan following slowly behind, Robin's dashed to the trees to the west, closing in on the patrol that are entering in to the palisades that are probably about 50 feet away from the palisades themselves. Folly, your turn. You've just seen Robin and Karstan sprint off to your left, along to the western flank. What do you want to do?
00:50:49
Speaker
uh folly obviously realizing he's back up in this kind of situation he's going to move his movement uh basically which is 25 feet uh just kind of in northwesterly direction um just because he's trying to prepare himself to get some cover behind a large tree he's only a small person so it shouldn't be too difficult to actually do but he understands the close quarters this is going to be weird drago has his uh
00:51:18
Speaker
moment and he's going to let Drago take the lead on it. Follies there for backup so he's just going to move 25 feet northwest and he can't hide behind a tree really because he's very close so he's just going to position himself in between the line of sight of a couple of goblins that are coming out the eastern entrance way so they just can't see him. Lovely, okay thank you. If you want me to take a hide action then yeah I'll do that. This is a stealth check if you want to be stealthy yeah.
00:51:46
Speaker
He's going quietly. Oh, it's another 22. Nice, yeah. Okay, thank you. Drago, your turn. Folly's off to the north. Karstan and Robin are off to the west. What do you want to do? Drago's going to unsheathe the Axe of Shader from his hip, and he's going to run forwards stealthily towards the nearest tree from him at 40 feet, and he's going to... I can't grab my...
00:52:15
Speaker
I can't go out my dude. Hang on.
00:52:19
Speaker
He's going to hide in the trees, as it were. Dragonborn in the trees, hiding out. He's got Axe of Shader in one hand. He's doing a little peeking maneuver. Hello. And then he's getting ready. He's seen Robin run off probably in a crouched kind of stance as Robin runs, which will highlight to the many times they've gone into battle to Drago that this is a bit more of a quiet style rather than going in rage.
00:52:46
Speaker
yeah he's just um hiding in the bushes okay nice give me a stealth check please now this is why i'm not so good but a 21 should be okay okay thank you very much i'm not going to tell you if you pass or fail until obviously it's the goblin's turn which it is now
00:53:06
Speaker
So a couple of things happen around the camp. The two people closest, two goblins closest to you, Darren, they're amiably walking towards the camp. They take about 15 feet. There's a slow jaunt. Within the camp, there's a little bit of movement, nothing really to note. Of note, a couple of people move around to and fro, changing campfire groups, one moving way to go through. We against the cliff,
00:53:31
Speaker
The guards, the two guards on both doors are still posted there as they stand. That's the end of their turn. Helena, your turn. The party's split. Okay, I'm gonna just dash 60 feet over to the west. So if I just move my character, yep. I'm moving closer to the southern exit or entrance, if you like, to that section.
00:54:01
Speaker
Just moving closer to that section. Okay. Are you moving stealthily, quietly? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll do it stealthily. I believe you have disadvantage as you're wearing it. Yeah, I do. Yeah, my arm is big, isn't it? Yeah. Shouldn't. You've got... No? Why not? As far as I'm aware, the only way...
00:54:25
Speaker
So heavy armour, unless you have something cast on you, it always makes a noise. It's medium armour that you can wear. She may have the heavy armour master feet. This shows how little we stealth in this game. I don't think that works. I think whether I remember back to when I was playing Edric, it doesn't give you any advantage on stealth. I don't think there is, unless you're an artist. I thought I did. I do. I do have disadvantage. I thought I did.
00:54:54
Speaker
Yeah the feet just at the feet if you've got heavy armor master at the feet you actually take less damage
00:55:07
Speaker
Yeah, it's the best medium armor master gets this disadvantage. 19? I've got a 20 and a 19. Okay, thank you very much for that. And my stealth is plus five anyway, so there you go. Wow, that's a pretty good stuff. Nice. So 24 and 25. It's a 24 at disadvantage. Wow, that's really great. Thank you very much.
00:55:32
Speaker
Well then, and finally Claude to bottom of the round. Everyone's split off in different directions. What do you want to do? I'm going to do exactly what Helen did. Just be one pace behind her. Creeping behind. Would you also like to make a stealth check? For me, also a disadvantage. You guys are going to see that before I do. I'm going to change the terms. Yeah, not good. Nasty. Two. Two. Oh, shit.
00:56:04
Speaker
Yeah, all mine. Two is my lowest. So you've got three and a two. Yeah, I want a three and a two. Wow. Oh my God, what are the chances? So, hang on, is that two might be a natural one. Hang on. That two is a natural one. Yes, it is. Oh no. A natural one. Okay. Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. I'm stuffy. You're just fucking clanging around behind me. Yeah, Sophie.
00:56:29
Speaker
So Claude, as you are making your way over towards Helena, you manage to get five feet from her location pretty much before a slight divot of rock catches one of your feet and you fall with a clang onto the floor, not necessarily echoing, but makes a very loud thud on the floor. As you wait there for a second on the floor, prone,
00:56:56
Speaker
You look to see if those patrol and goblins had noticed. But we're going to have to wait till their turn to see. Well, Helena will turn back and just have this look on her face like fucking hell. Brilliant. Car stand. You just heard an almighty clang and you've seen a dust cloud form around Helena and Claude as he's just face planted on your way over towards Robin. What do you want to do?
00:57:26
Speaker
Okay, so I'm going to move up to, up to as close to Robin as I can get with my 30 feet of movement, which is about 10 feet behind it. So I'm sort of moving towards the west and on the bottom of the combat zone as it were. And given that we've just heard this almighty clang,
00:57:53
Speaker
Karsten's probably going to assume that the jig is about to be up. Everyone just stops dancing. So I cast five on. No, no, I don't really cast five on. I will use... This is really difficult to work out what spells to use. I'm going to use my bonus action to take the dash action to move a bit closer.
00:58:24
Speaker
So I'm just going to move up to next to Robin. And then I'd like to use a vicious mockery, but it's going to be a wisping vicious mockery, so I'm not really obvious. Fair enough. And I'm going to use vicious mockery on the goblin that is closest to Darren and I. OK, yep. And is that just a wisdom saving throw? Can it make a wisdom saving throw, please? 12. Yeah, it fell. OK.
00:58:57
Speaker
No, that was pants' amount of damage. It takes four points of psychic damage. Ooh. And you see it kind of... towards its head. It reaches up towards its ears. There's a little bit of blood trickles from its ear. Yeah, it's still standing. Still standing. That was an atrocious amount of damage. That was terrible. On a 3D4, I got four. Oh my lord.
00:59:18
Speaker
One, one, two, terrible. Anything else you want to do, Carson? No, that is the end of my go. Thank you very much. Robin, Carson's just appeared over your left shoulder and whispered, God, you bunch of ugly goblins or something to that ilk. And one of them has screamed. You've also had the clang of Claude behind you. What do you want to do?
00:59:36
Speaker
Yes, Robin is, as soon as Castan does that, he's going to very quickly get an arrow in one swift motion with his right hand, Beau comes up with the left hand, not the arrow, and he's going to shoot the one that has just been viciously mocked. Awesome, brought a hit. And he's going to, because he's not moving, use his bonus action to just take a little inhale of breath and do steady aim to give himself advantage. Nice. Do we need advantage if we're unseen?
01:00:06
Speaker
Oh no, yeah, you are hidden. We haven't been seen by them yet, so you're technically... He's doing it for you. He's taking a deep breath because he's enjoying... No, mate, I'm not complaining because I get my bonus action back. 24 to hit. Yep, the hits. Okay. This is the front one. Yep, by the power of Stabacus, he takes... That's 12 points of piercing damage. Let me roll the sneak attack.
01:00:38
Speaker
with another seven points of sneak attack damage, so 19 total. Okay, this arrow comes flooding into its chest as it kind of recoils in pain. It's still upright, but now it's taken a couple of meaty hits on the chesticle. It's going to get shot again. Okay. That is an 18 to hit. Hits. This one takes...
01:01:09
Speaker
Oh, it's really good. I've rolled an 8 on the D8, so it takes... 30... no, 4... Hold on. No, it's plus 6. Yeah, it takes 14. 14 points of magical piercing damage. Does it take sneak attack damage as well? Not this time. I can then use it once per turn.
01:01:29
Speaker
OK, this one comes directly into the top of its into its abdomen, right into its stomach, piercing deep. You can only see the the the feathers of the edge of your end of your arrow sticking out. It's like gone straight through his tummy and he just doubles over like eyes bulging wide. He's still upright, but he is pretty much incapacitated. Shit, these take more damage than I thought. I was going to say this is a Super goblins. OK, I will.
01:02:02
Speaker
Dash with a bonus action into view and hope that they're more interested in me than the beacon because I've heard him scream, I've heard Claude Klein can fall. I'm aware the game is up, it's now about stalling for time so I will just dash to move out beyond the tree line so I'm now in their line of sight and that's the end of my turn.
01:02:27
Speaker
Okay, thank you very much. Folly, you've heard the shouts of a goblin to your left as you've moved up stealthily towards Drago to the north. You've heard the clank of armor fall. You've heard the screams. What do you want to do?
01:02:43
Speaker
Finally going to move forward to begin with, straight north, he's going to put himself just kind of next to Drago, just on the other side, still trying to use the tree to their advantage at the moment. He's going to be ready in action. I just wanted to double check something actually, what would that be?
01:03:08
Speaker
Okay, Folly is basically going to ready a spell that if the two goblins to the north seem to look as if they are about to leave the C-shaped cavern, so if they're going to start going up the hill a little bit, basically if they move forward like 10 feet or more,
01:03:33
Speaker
Wall of fire is going to be cast just to keep them inside. Is that the two gardens on the east side? Yeah. Okay. Okay. No problem. Thank you very much. Anything else you want to do following? Nope. No, that's it. Actually, I'll be fine. You are aware. I think this counts as casting it, even if you don't end up casting it.
01:04:03
Speaker
If you don't lose the spell before next turn, you lose the spell slot. Yeah, when you ready a spell, you cast it as normal, but hold its energy. So the point is that you will cast it. Or you won't, but you will lose, it will counter the spell slot. So you've got to use that before effectively the start of your next turn, I guess, or it's gone. Did not know that.
01:04:32
Speaker
now you do otherwise it would be really easy for a spell casket i'm gonna really spell and do this and it wouldn't cost me this is the first time ever i've read in a spell yeah yeah yeah you expend the spell file straight away funnily enough this late in the game this late in the campaign we're doing lots of things we uh we haven't done before yeah it's good never never done that um concentration as well
01:04:54
Speaker
Oh, does it? I didn't know that. Yeah. So to hold a spell, it counts as a concentration. So if you so if you take damage, you have to concentration check and it can actually. That's understandable. That's understandable. That's cool.
01:05:08
Speaker
But yeah, I'm going to keep it as it is. Follow you to prepare, he's still going stealth. If he loses the spell, it's like he loses the spell. It's now a reaction, so you can now cast it at any time between now and the start of your next game. Well, assuming the trigger, it has to be on the trigger. Yeah. Yeah, which is fine. Okay, thank you very much for holding a Wall of Fire on the Eastern Palisade Wall if the two guards moved.

Battle Escalation and Goblin Resistance

01:05:31
Speaker
away, basically 10 feet away or more. Thank you very much, Folly. Drago, your turn. Folly's just appeared to your left. What do you want to do? Okay, so Drago's been staring this whole time at the two axes of shade eye in hand and he's just been on the balls of his feet kind of antsy to get going and he's going to, I'm guessing I heard the commotion going on, Claude falling over and all the, so on hearing that he's going to rush forward
01:05:56
Speaker
And as soon as he's within 30 feet, as he's running, he's going to take the axis shader and throw it towards the nearest enemy on the eastern side. Okay, roll to hit. Let's go for it. 18 hits. Yes! If you just click the button in, it'll just do it for you.
01:06:21
Speaker
Yeah, it did, but it hasn't appeared. Sometimes it takes a bit of time. That's fine. Nine points of splashing damage. Nice. And seven points of lightning damage.
01:06:36
Speaker
And as that axe crashes into numero one goblin, the axe will stop after hitting the person, and then it will spin backwards and come back into my hands, which I'll catch in mid-air. And I'm still running forward, so I would have said when I was in feet. I feel like I can run and throw, can't I? Well, no, it's still two actions. You've movement, and then your action to attack. OK.
01:07:06
Speaker
Do I still got my second attack? Don't think you do if you throw it. Not with the axe or shader. No. Okay, cool. That's fine. He's just moved my character. Sorry, that was me. Apologies. Are you throwing it from your location by the trees? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. He wants to be 30 feet away and then throw it. Apologies. Sorry. He's not moving me too far. All I'm going to be is there. Bam.
01:07:32
Speaker
Okay. So yes, I've ran within striking distance, I've let loose the axe to shade on, hit number one guy. Nice, awesome. This axe is... Do I still get to move after I've moved? Yeah. You can finish the rest of your movement. I can still finish the... Yeah, okay, so that was mid-movement for flavour, and now Drago's going to stand in front of them both in full sight.
01:07:56
Speaker
Nice. Just because I want to check something. I may be wrong, Ian, but Drago had some small hand axes, didn't he? I'm thinking way back. Way back. If you had another thrown weapon, you can technically throw it. I've just checked the rules. There's nothing to say you can't throw two weapons in the same way. I thought it was the axe of shader was restricting the fact that it's... Oh, the axe of shader he can throw once. It's restricted to the fact that it's a bonus action to bring it back. But if he's got another... It's not a bonus action to bring it back. It always returns regardless.
01:08:25
Speaker
There's no reason why you can't throw it. The property is... Yeah, no, I was surprised at that. I think when it was created it was you can throw it once. So I've got the... This magical weapon gains the thrown property and will always return to you after you make a ranged attack with it, even if you hit.
01:08:40
Speaker
Then there's nothing, I've just checked the rules, thrown weapons are attacked so they can be done more than once as long as you have the weapons in hand. So there's nothing to stop them throwing it again. But I didn't know whether it was a particular, because of what, I didn't know what Mark created when he gave me that item when it was created. I think Ian's literally just read what Mark's created.
01:08:57
Speaker
Well, also it's an actual axe. It's called the axe of the mighty Olaf, 5E equipment. So it's the same blurb that's on there. It's up to you, Mark. Basically, am I allowed to throw this again? That's what they're saying.
01:09:11
Speaker
Yeah? Yeah. Cool. So yeah, exactly as I was saying then. So as Drago rushes forward, throws the axe, the axe hits the target, and then it rotates back, spins back. Drago catches it in midair, and then he lets it go again at the second enemy this time on the eastern side of the gate. Okay, roll to hit. 16. Hits. Oh, yeah! You guys have got to fuck all AC. Oh, 14 points of slashing damage.
01:09:43
Speaker
And six points of lightning damage. 20 points in total. Nice, again, this axe comes flooding into like deep into the arm, almost slicing the arm clean off. This is the right arm of the creature. And it looks in not a particularly good state as it screams out in agony as the axe returns back to you. And then Drago catches it again in midair and he stands at the ready. Exactly as I said before, the two enemies are now in front of him. Drago's in front of the entrance.
01:10:10
Speaker
and he's got the axe in one hand and he's just stood iron and both ready to attack. Nice. Again. Lovely, lovely, lovely. This commotion is the goblin's turn. And with this commotion,
01:10:24
Speaker
a couple of things are going to happen. So the two goblins that are on patrol, they've taken damage from Karstan to the south, both of them are going to move over to you, Robin, and to engage you. As you're the target they can see. The two that are on patrol as well, on that gate as well, are going to start coming forward to see what's going on and what they can do to help.
01:10:54
Speaker
but aren't in range of anyone yet. The first guy that you attacked Drago on the eastern flank is going to run into the camp. And the other one is going to run away from you up towards the cliff edge to run up this way. So he's going to get 10 feet and that folly is going to trigger your wall of fire. Yay! Fire them up, baby!
01:11:24
Speaker
So as he sees him starting to make a break for the North, the spell is going to be released. Follow is also going to spend a Sorcerer's Point of one of his many 10,000 to transmute it. So it's not actually fire that's going to be coming out. Just to make Drago feel a little bit more comfortable, he's going to change the damage that will be given to cold damage. So there's like a real cool breeze that just seems to blow straight past Drago.
01:11:49
Speaker
You sexy bastard! Opaque ice wall just seems to form in front of this creature. So it's in front of the creature. About 60 foot long. More so going that way because I can do it diagonally. Yours is better, yeah.
01:12:14
Speaker
Might as a pencil line drawing. Can I walk through that? You can walk through it, but you would take damage if you did. You also need to designate which side of the wall is the damage. Yeah, it's going to be this side. So anybody who comes within, is it 10 feet on this side of the wall? It's going to be subjugated to the same damage I'm about to roll.
01:12:37
Speaker
Okay, that makes sense. So Drago will save as long as he's on my side of the wall. Correct. Okay, do you want to roll the damage for that goblin that's unfortunately on the other side of the wall? Yes. Just like the wildlings. Would it not hit the one who sprinted away as well if it's when he started to move? No, it's only when the second one started to move. Wasn't it?
01:13:01
Speaker
yeah I mean technically it would have moved at the same time but he would have been 10 feet away by the time that Folly's rule was 10 feet when he moves 10 feet from his current location then it will trigger so that goblin would have been 10 feet already away if they did it at the same time he would be 10 feet away anyway but by the time the the wall would have been activated so he'd be fine
01:13:23
Speaker
I say fine. He's alive for now. Who are we kidding? For now. Damage falling on that one? 27 points of cold damage and that will continue on anyone who gets within 10 feet of that wall. He is frozen. Solid block of goblin through and through like something straight out of frozen quite literally trying to find an apt.
01:13:49
Speaker
I'm gonna leave him there because his body is still there, but he is fully frozen. Dead. Caput. Oh, wow. That's 27 points if I walk through as well. Yeah. You have resistance to it though, so it would be halved for yourself. Fuck. Okay. Okay, so that was that. The goblin that ran into the camp is then going to turn to everyone and just say,
01:14:20
Speaker
Like that, shouting out loud to everyone and coming from everyone around the camp and they start to hustle and bustle and some of them start to move towards the south. Some of them start to move and look out, but don't exit away from the nearest fire to the east. A few more move to the south. Some of which start kind of grabbing spears, grabbing bows and arrows, moving towards fires. One of them goes over and wakes up the four that are currently sleeping. Oops, and their beds move too. Silly, silly roll 20.
01:14:48
Speaker
and they are awake as well. Nope, they don't come out yet. So they're just kind of preparing. They've had their own little mini kind of warning now told to them and now at the part the camp is kind of alive. Helena, the camp's aware of your location now. Claude has collapsed at your feet. What do you want to do? I will...
01:15:16
Speaker
approach them and actually they've done me a favour because they've got a little bit closer to me. So I'm going to go 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 feet to the west. So I am very close to them and I'm going to attack the one that's closest to me. Okay, just under the trees to the south entrance, fire away. Okay, my first hit is going to be a 24. That hits.
01:15:48
Speaker
Do you want me to just hit and damage just as it goes? Just because your damage is huge and their HP is low, save you rerolling anything. You can do two at a time if you want, it's up to you. I'll just do one at a time, it's okay. Thirteen bludgeoning damage, please for that first hit. Okay, first hit comes smashing across the skull, dazing the creature. Seventeen, did you say? Thirteen. Thirteen. Thank you.
01:16:18
Speaker
But you've just had a bit of a premonition because 17 was my next hit. That hits. Thank you. And 15 points of bludgeoning damage. You again hit this creature on the other side of the head. Its eyes roll back in its head, it starts to sway, but it still stood upright. How big are these things? They are probably about four feet.
01:16:42
Speaker
So they're quite short. Yeah, but they must be stocky. They're taking a bit, aren't they? Yeah, yeah, yeah. These are battle-hardened. My third hit is a 27. Hits. And a nine points of bludgeoning.
01:17:00
Speaker
And your final hit argument for flavour, it's gone head, head. The last one comes directly down, top of the skull, crushing the skull. So your mace is just remaining where the base of the spine would start. It is now headless, it is deadless, it has been slain. Awesome. And with a big... She's going to scream at her flails. And then with her final hit, can she reach the other one?
01:17:25
Speaker
You've got, you've only moved 25 feet, so you can move five feet. I can't though, I think I, oh no I can, I can, I can. Yeah, I can, thank you. Yeah, so I'll move an extra five feet to the west and use my final hit on the last one, if that's okay. Yeah, of course, yeah, roll the hit. 21 to hit. That definitely hits.
01:17:53
Speaker
Cool stuff. And that's a 15 points of bludgeoning damage. Fucking hell. Nice. Okay, I take another swing at this creature. Helen, the death machine continues to march on. Soldier on through these battles. Good shit. Thank you very much. Claude, your turn. I will just stand up, dust myself off, and I will continue to be in Helen's shadow and sprint over in her direction. On the way, just casting
01:18:27
Speaker
Sacred Flame on the one that Helena just hit. So Mark, could you make a deck save? Eight. Ah, it takes.
01:18:42
Speaker
12 points of radiant damage. Oh, as this radiant damage comes flying in, you can only see the flesh starting to boil and blister off its skin. It screams out loud, but it is still upright, but it is on death's door. Nice, and I will just use five more feet of movement to put myself in a flanking-ish position for Eleanor's next turn. Yes!
01:19:09
Speaker
Yes, Queen. Yes, Claude, thank you very much. Carstan, shit's hit the fan. You've got your martial characters forming a line along the southern flank. Three of them on three of you. You're hidden by the tree. What do you want to do? So Carstan will move to join up with Claude and Robin and move behind the one to the north of Robin. And I'm going to attack it from behind. Ooh, girl. With my rapier. Stab it, stab it, stab it.
01:19:42
Speaker
21 to hit, or 24 to hit, sorry. Yeah, that's not working. Oh, well, let's do that one. And it takes...
01:19:58
Speaker
15 points of piercing damage. Robin, all you see from your direction is these two goblins come down on you, the one that you've already shot once, hobbled over to you and all you see is this goblin come up to you and then instantly his eyes open wide and
01:20:17
Speaker
It just kind of falls over as this rapier sticks out of its throat and the point of it as it falls you see The the wide-eyed face of cast and stood behind that that creature is dead anything else for it to do custom I'll give use my bonus action to give inspiration to Robin. This is the bardic kind Yes, lovely d10 just for you Robin don't get to d10 Thanks. Thanks castan
01:20:46
Speaker
Nice. And speaking of reciprocation, Robin, it's your turn. This creature just has died in front of you. You've got one to your left, clawed and held about 15 feet to your north, fighting another goblin. What do you want to do? Robin is going to see the steely-eyed determination of Carstan, who's usually quite javial and very, very
01:21:07
Speaker
Placid in his view of the world and is going to just assume for a second that he may have underestimated him after all this time and is going to use his bonus action to swing his shoulder down and just kick some dust up and disengage from this creature that he stood with because I have my bow out and I don't want to attack it from within five feet. I'm going to come to here. I'm going to go roughly 20 feet to the northwest of this creature.
01:21:33
Speaker
I'm going to first off see the one that's engaged Helena and Claude and see that it's not looking particularly good and think I can thin the herd by launching a shot in at that fella. Okay, roll to hit. That is a 18 to hit. Hits. It takes 15 points of piercing damage.
01:22:02
Speaker
Yeah, you fire this arrow in the side of its head, sticks in its head and it slumps to the ground in front of Helena and Claude. With that, I'm then going to turn my bow back to the one that is now I've left disengaged and the second arrow on a very quick turn is going to go in his direction. Okay, roll to hit. That is a 25 to hit. Hits. He takes seven points of magical piercing damage.
01:22:31
Speaker
I thuds into its shoulder blade and it screams out in agony. And I'm then just going to shout with the end of my turn, if I turn to start sprinting towards the beacon, with an extra 10 feet, I'm just going to shout to Helena. Helena, we've got a live one to the south.
01:22:50
Speaker
and I'm going to end up there. And that's the end of my turn. As Robin turns with his bow, aware that they're now aware of us, and he's just starting to peg it towards the beacon, as he said he was. Nice. Awesome role there. Thank you very much, Robin. Great stuff. Folly, over to you on the eastern front. You've just put up your Wall of Flame. You have killed one of them. There are three stood at the Palisade entrance looking out sheepishly at what you've formed. Drago stood on the other side of it, looking in. What do you want to do?
01:23:21
Speaker
Foley is just going to move northwest to like the cliff edge so he can obviously look down very easily into the camp and his plan is now coming together where he's basically just going to try and snipe as many of them from this cliff top that he can actually do so there's three that are near the easter gate and the one closest to him he's just going to cast a little bit of a firebolt at him just to let him know that he's there
01:23:51
Speaker
Very threatening, but very much like I'm above you and I'm going to destroy you all. Okay, lovely. So which one are you hitting? The one nearest to the fire, the one nearest to you? Yeah, the one nearest to me on the eastern side. Got you. Okay, you have roll to hit. 23. The hits. And 19 points of fire damage on it.
01:24:16
Speaker
Very nice, this fireball comes flooding into its pelvis almost hitting into the right side causing an inordinate amount of pain. Nice. Good. That's all Folly's going to do. Lovely, thank you very much. Drago, Folly stepped up and just fireballing, fire bolting from his current locale, what do you want to do?
01:24:38
Speaker
Okay, Drago's there again, bouncing on his heels, and you can't believe that Folly's gonna damage him again as he switches on rage, and with the access shade all over his head, runs through the wall of ice. This is not my fault. So you have the damages, you're resistant to cold, so you're gonna be taking, was it 13? Is he raging before he goes through? Yes, but I don't get a half, half, half, surely.
01:25:04
Speaker
Well, you do. No, you're not half a half. Plus his raging is only for budgeting. It's his facial feature, which allows him to. So 13 points of cold damage. Okay. And I'm rushing forward and I'm going to engage the one directly in front of me. And as I'm running forward, the axis shader again, crackling with lightning as he runs through and slashes down with the, with the big old acts. Okay. Right. Roll to 21. Yes. That hits. More good damage.
01:25:35
Speaker
Oh, my damage. That was shit. No, that was that was everything. So sorry, 18 points of slashing damage. And.
01:25:53
Speaker
three points of lightning damage. Almost took him out in a 1-0. And you've just sliced kind of clavicle down. I could split him open. He's like hanging on at his thread. No idea what's just hit him quite literally. Okay, as the first slash happened at an angle, Drago carries a momentum 360 spin and hits again with the Axe of Shader for 26. That hits.
01:26:19
Speaker
13 points of slashing damage. His dead head is removed.
01:26:24
Speaker
from the body. When single point of lightning, it's like a little spark just comes out of the axe. It's like a electric fence. It's not very pleasant. And Joago's holding position and stood directly in the middle of the eastern door. Axe of Shader in hand, just raged up, full of adrenaline. He's ready. I'm ready. Give it to me. It's a goblin's turn.
01:26:52
Speaker
Can I just say that was fucking awesome. Sorry. That was fucking awesome. I got proper, proper vibes from that. That was amazing. That was sick feeling it. Uh, the government then are fully aware of what's happening. So the one follow that you've just hit isn't going to like his odds. He can see the wall of fire and he's going to leg it, uh, away, but passing over your location. He's also going to use his action as many of them are to run further.
01:27:21
Speaker
and get to the southern palisade wall. A number of them within the central portion are kind of still running around, readying equipment, grabbing bows from the palisade wall, running into the huts, grabbing their equipment, getting their armor on, et cetera. Whereas there is a contingent out that are kind of ready, that were ready for some kind of attack. Many of these are going to see what's happening and are going to do what goblins does, make a runner.
01:27:52
Speaker
So there's a group of three. They're going to use the 30 feet of movement and then use the action. Use a movement to move up in front of Robin now, 15, 10 to 15 feet ahead of Robin's position, trying to get the leg up round before Robin gets there in order to, um, to get to the beacon to light it. Two other goblins are going to do something similar.
01:28:23
Speaker
as is a third the rest are all kind of making grabbing things sorting out parts of the encampment there's probably the force is now probably split in half there is one currently engaged with drago but he is
01:28:38
Speaker
No, he's not terrified of you. He's gonna take a swing for you. He's gonna take a swing that you didn't care. That's 19 against your armor class. Yeah, that hits. That's not too bad, mate. Fair play, mate. You're gonna take nine points of slashing damage. Well, half. That hasn't been half. No, that hasn't been half. No, they're not that powerful. So four points of slashing damage. However, there is one chap who comes out of the camp
01:29:03
Speaker
who comes out of the tent at the far back left corner nearest the Palisade, or the longbow on his back. He leans, he looks out, he speaks to one of the other goblins, he leans an arrow over the fire, lighting it on fire, turns his back to the group, turns the arrow, pulls back the bow with the flaming arrow, and aims towards the amount of wood, kind of the tower that's up there, pulls the bow back, and just as he releases the arrow,

Cliffhanger and Goblin Strategy

01:29:33
Speaker
That's what we're going to have to leave. That was great. Goblin fired. We've never fought goblins before. So I thought, why not?
01:29:48
Speaker
There's a lot we haven't done before that we're doing this time around. When you described them as low HP, I thought, oh, it could be like really low, like, we're going to kill these things. I was like, oh, no. Hence why I whipped out the axe, I just thought it would be a throw job, like a dance. It's low HP, but I know you've got a lot of AOE guys, so.
01:30:06
Speaker
I don't like the AOE. What's the AOE effect? Spells that can like fireball cover a big bit of ground and kill everyone pretty much. And you know what I really like? Our own AOE effects, which is you, the audience listening to us. You are all in our AOE. It was worth a try anyway. Thank you very much for tuning in, listening, making us a part of your everyday week. We love you for it. Hope you enjoyed this one and is ready for the next
01:30:37
Speaker
part of the cliffhanger next week. Ah man that was difficult. I've got so many things running through my mind going all my days what's gonna happen to us because is he gonna like that thing I don't know I don't know oh my god
01:30:52
Speaker
We're going to have to find out. You're going to have to find out. We're going to have to find out next week. If you wanted to keep up to date with the podcast, then do it somewhere else. But, you know, the Twitter pages every now and then will get updated. And if you wanted to find it, it's collectively at fellowship table. Then if you wanted to go one step further and follow us individually, you can do that too. I'm at I rather one comes at.
