Happy New Year, everybody. Thank you very much for listening. It's all about perspective. Once again, starting off in 2024. And I just want to take a moment to say thank

you. Mr. Rogers, for those of you that are experienced in age, like myself, you remember Mr. Rogers, he always said that you should take the time to say thank you to those that got you to where you're at.

To those that have helped me get to where I am at, thank you very much. I appreciate that. And let's just keep it rolling in 2024.

Plans and Resolutions for the New Year

00:00:37
Speaker
I want to just do a quick reflection and resolution podcast just to set up the rest of the year. I got more great guests coming next week is someone I've been trying to get on here for a long time. She's finally going to join us. But anyway, thank you for 2023. It was a great year.

the books and of course Dr. Johnson being kind enough to let me co-author with him and then just things that are happening at the school and and just it being just an awesome place to work at that's largely due to the people that are there so I'll take a moment to say thank you and thank you to the special people that helped me get to where I'm at with the books as well you know who you are but anyways take a moment everybody listening right now and just tell someone thank you because I

as independent as you may be, you didn't get there by yourself. So everyone take a moment, say thank you because it's genuine and it means something and it will help the other people want to help other people. So again, everyone take the Mr. Rogers moment. Looking forward to 2024.

Supporting Tyrone Thompson Elementary

Speaker
The question really is what's your New Year's resolution in education?
00:01:45
Speaker
Everyone should have one. You know, yes, you're not going to stick to them through January. Most of you started working out on January 1st and already quit. And that's okay, at least you started. You know, the first step is the important one. But what's your educational resolution? So I figured I'd share mine. Mine, number one, is always to keep getting the teachers at Tyrone Thompson and the staff at Tyrone Thompson, whatever they need to do the job. That's always numero uno.
00:02:13
Speaker
If they need something, we find a way to get it. Or we talk about what they need and try to find something else. But my job, again, is twofold. One is to put them in a position where they can be successful, and two is to give them everything they need to be successful. That's just leading from the front and trusting your people, and then taking those resources and figuring out the best way to use them.
00:02:36
Speaker
My second resolution is to keep working to put Tyro and Thompson Elementary School on the map. We have to use people as a model. We have to learn from other people.
00:02:47
Speaker
And the goal of the school when I opened it, when we opened it, was for it to be a true teaching school where people could come and learn from us and we could use what we're doing to help people move forward. So I'm going to keep doing that. I have a special opportunity in February. You get to go to north of Chicago and basically present the Tyrone Thompson experience as well as on the V principles that Brad and I wrote about.

Celebrating Positives in Education

00:03:12
Speaker
So that's exciting because now the school, this has followers all over the country, but now I actually get to go talk about it in Illinois, so that'll be cool. But ultimately, that goes into the bigger resolution I have, which is just to make a more positive impact in the profession. Our profession, we do a terrible job, terrible job of celebrating the good. If you look online, you'll see plenty of posts about
00:03:40
Speaker
You know, someone out there is going to be like, I only got 92 days till summer. Yeah, OK. Sure, summer's great. But let's talk about the positives. What do you get to do in those 92 days? Let's celebrate the good of the profession, because nobody, not nobody, very few people are going into education. And essentially, we are basically eating our own. We're killing ourselves with all the negativity,
00:04:05
Speaker
and all the bad things about it. Yeah, there's bad things, but there's a lot of positives as well. You just have to find them. So share your positives just like I try to do. And let's just show people that the profession is great in many ways.
00:04:19
Speaker
And really, in Las Vegas, what else do we have? What else do we have to complain about? I mean, yeah, we got to go back January 2. But other than that, everybody got their raise this year. Everybody's got a contract now. Yeah, some people aren't happy. But a lot of people would take the 20% no matter what job they're in. So again, it's all about how you look at things. We, in education, have to celebrate the good, share the good with people, and just try to get everyone to understand that there is
00:04:47
Speaker
plenty of intrinsic value in this job. So those are my resolutions. Everyone out there, please help me celebrate the profession. Let's share the positives. And as always, in the end, no matter where you stand on it, it's all about perspective. Happy 2024 and let's keep on rocking.
