Super Bowl Party Woes

00:00:00
Speaker
The last time we actually hosted a Super Bowl party, I made homemade wings. I made all these dips. I had chips. and I mean, I just felt like cookies. we We had everything. And one of my guests the next day, she's like, I felt so ill after your party. I was like, oh. Well, that seems like a you problem, not a me problem. like they and like I mean, is she's is she saying that she felt ill because there was so much yummy food and she just ate too much? Or is she saying that you physically made her sick with what you served? No, I mean, I didn't like cause her food poisoning.

Meet the Hosts

00:00:46
Speaker
Welcome to three little fishes. We're three sisters who grew up in the Midwest together, but have since spread across the country. I live in Los Angeles. I'm in Nashville. And I live in Philadelphia. We are all married with children, have all had careers, but now we stay at home with our families.
00:01:04
Speaker
Join us as we share secrets and stories about being women, wives, and mothers. We welcome you to laugh along, learn something new, reach out, and join our conversation. So let's jump in.

Football Talk with Peter

00:01:21
Speaker
What's up, fishes? What's up, fishes? Yeah, I'm excited for today's show. Yeah, it's going to be fun. Yeah, today's show is going to be fun. We're going to have our brother-in-law on, Peter, Kathy's husband, so that will be fun.
00:01:34
Speaker
Today we're talking all things football. Took some twisting of his arm to get him to do it, by the way. Did it really? He's like, he's so like, got such a big personality. I would think that you do not have to twist. Yeah. Yeah. I find that hard to believe that he won't want to come on. He's like, it's my first debut. I think he was like, yeah, a little bit. I'm going to get it. It's a little little intimidating, but he'll do great. I'm excited. Oh, that's funny.

Girl Scouts' Disneyland Adventure

00:02:03
Speaker
Well, I don't know if I mentioned this last week to everybody, but I am a co-leader of my daughter's Girl Scout troop. And they are- The yes air lady. eighty Yes, I'm the yes lady. So they're fourth and fifth graders. And they have been selling cookies and saving money.
00:02:25
Speaker
and they wanted to do a big fun outing together and they picked a Disneyland. So we've been talking about this for a couple of years. And so we took them to Disneyland for a big troop celebration, which was super fun.

Medical Emergency at Disneyland

00:02:41
Speaker
I had, we had 10 girls and it was amazing to go to the hap, one of the happiest places on earth. But I will tell you that,
00:02:51
Speaker
They were super fun, but we had a kind of a little emergency when we were in Disneyland and it kind of has like rocked me to the core still. And it's been days later since I've been there, but we were in line waiting to go on a ride. And my co-leader and I, my friend Adrian, we noticed these teenage boys that were kind of being a little rowdy in our line.
00:03:14
Speaker
which is fine. They're teenage boys. I have boys, you know, you guys have boys.

The Perils of Drug Use

00:03:18
Speaker
That's just what they do. But they, the behavior was kind of odd and I'm going to quickly tell this story. But at one point I look over and one of the boys is on the floor and Adrian is like, I'm not sure what's going on over there. I look over, they get this kid back up on his feet, his friend, and I look over and I start to move in that direction because something looks off to me and there's no adults with them. And as I reach these boys, this kid's eyes roll back into his head and I catch him before he slams his head on the concrete. He's out.
00:03:55
Speaker
He's urinating his pants, and he starts to have a seizure. Oh, that's so sad. So ah the you know, fast forward. We're like asking for help. Disney was very slow of believing that these boys were not just being rowdy and that we needed medical attention.
00:04:12
Speaker
um But we get him so that he's i late with him on the floor. He does wake up in his conscious again and can can have a conversation. That's good. um Which is great.
00:04:24
Speaker
and he After I asked, you know, do are you prone to seizures? Has this happened before? No.

Celebrity Drug Scandal

00:04:30
Speaker
Okay. Did you take anything? I might've eaten something that was chocolate, but maybe it wasn't chocolate. And I was like, oh, So then I have somebody then I have this other adult come over and he's like, I'm a firefighter. Do you need help? Yes, I need help. Then I have somebody else say I'm a paramedic. Do you need help? Yes. So the paramedic and the firefighters like took over. Yeah. And this kid was on a senior trip. And all he kept saying to me is I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. And I just like my heart just was breaking for so many different reasons.

Super Bowl Predictions

00:05:07
Speaker
Like he's lucky that
00:05:09
Speaker
people are around to help him. He's lucky he didn't hit his head. He's lucky he wasn't on the ride when he passed out, like all these things. So I've been thinking about this kid still because we have teenagers and and also I hope they don't make that decision and something like that happens to them or worse.
00:05:27
Speaker
And then I'm like, whatever happened to this kid? Like what happened without his, day like, I wanted to kind of see how it ended with him. But it just got me thinking, I'm sure his parents have had the talk of don't take anything. Don't, you know, ingest something. You don't know what it is. Don't do drugs. Don't do these edibles. They're not chocolate. yeah And, you know, it just got me thinking like on a parenting level and then as a social worker, it's like you educate, educate, educate, and you hope

Betting Games Explained

00:05:54
Speaker
they made the right choice.
00:05:56
Speaker
And this is a clear example of the frontal lobe is not developed. And they're making poor choices yeah because to be stoned and go on a roller coaster may sound fun. But you're right. Like if he passed out on that roller coaster, I mean, what would happen to him? Would he snap his neck? Would he fall out? So yeah, I mean, again, tell two drugs.
00:06:24
Speaker
It's just not worth it. and I actually have not. I forgot to talk to my voice about that. I'm gonna do it at dinner. You know the only thing about that story, I think it's great you helped that kid Nancy. oh But why was Disney so slow? I mean was it they don't have a good medical response or they just didn't believe you. That just seemed weird that they wouldn't believe you. I don't know. I don't know if they noticed the boys kind of being rambunctious and it's just like, oh, I'm sure they see teenagers being rambunctious all the time, but it was disappointing that it took them a minute to, it took them longer to realize, listen,
00:07:05
Speaker
an adult is telling you that there is a 911 emergency, you know, what is going on. And I didn't stick around because the more at other you bigger fish more yeah more qualifie people are there to take over. And then I had 10 girls like they didn't need to be witnessing this. um But it just gets me thinking too. It's like,
00:07:25
Speaker
You know, drugs are bad in general and you should not be doing them, but who knows where they got it and like things are laced with all sorts of stuff. It's just this glowing example of how your life can go sideways so quickly. And as a parent, again, as a social worker, it just all jarred me of like your life can change just like that. And he's lucky that, you know, he was on the right side of it. And I'm I don't know if he recovered I'm sure he recovered just because he was conscious.
00:07:54
Speaker
You know, and didn't hit his head, yeah but it really could have gone the other way. quickly yeah like time a Yeah. But speaking of drugs, like I just saw in the news, did you all see this? We all grew up in the Midwest. We grew up at at of outside of Chicago.
00:08:12
Speaker
The Bulls were huge. Michael Jordan you know was everywhere where we grew up. oh yes And his son Marcus was just arrested on um cocaine possession and a DUI and a resisting arrest in Florida. Yeah, that's a shame. I know, buddy.
00:08:32
Speaker
he He's like 34 years old. What are you doing? Yeah, you're in big time trouble, man. All right, guys, before we move on to the show, I just want to remind everybody to please rate, subscribe, comment.
00:08:48
Speaker
And invite your favorite three fishes to jump into our conversation. All right. Today during the pod, we're going to be talking about all things Super Bowl. yeah We're going to talk about the halftime show and also our favorite eats.

Super Bowl Party Fun

00:09:04
Speaker
Let's jump in. Everything football. So I mean, I don't have a dog in the fight this year, I think. um But I think this is a really going to be a really good game. I think sometimes it's not that great of a game. But this one, I think there's a lot of hype.
00:09:21
Speaker
between Kansas um City and Philadelphia. And I think it's going to be a lot of fun. So there's going to be a lot of watch parties. And um it's going to be a good time. I agree, Linda. I think it's going to be a really good close game. But I think the Eagles are going to pull it out if they played like they did last week. Well, I hope they do. I hope they do. So like when you guys go to Super Bowl parties, what games do you play?
00:09:51
Speaker
So one of our favorite games we like to play as the square game, the gambling square game where you can put in as little or as much money as you want. Like from like $2 to, you know, I'm sure people put in hundreds of dollars, but we're like, we're guppies and we, you know, it's just fun to have something to root for, but I don't totally understand how they work, but Kathy Peter does, and he loves to put together this game grid. yeah So we thought it would be fun to have him on.
00:10:18
Speaker
to tell us about this game that maybe people but at home would wanna try. Yeah, I think he's prepared to tell you all about it.
00:10:29
Speaker
Peter, thanks for joining us. Hello, Peter. Thanks for having me. Excited to be on the podcast. Yay. we're talking All Things Super Bowl and Peter It Pete is such a good little he has all these like tricks and fun games that he plays. So do you watch the Super Bowl? Do you watch the Super Bowl every year? I do watch the Super Bowl every year. It's one of the most watched ah sporting events in the world, I believe hundreds of millions of people around the globe watch this game and I certainly enjoy watching

Halftime Show and Ads Debate

00:11:01
Speaker
it every year.
00:11:02
Speaker
We typically are either at a party watching with a large group of people or sometimes hosting a party at our house. so ah And so we we do enjoy watching it. It's usually a great contest between you know some of the top teams in the leagues. And and oftentimes, they're very, very close games.
00:11:16
Speaker
Well, you guys have a dog in the fight this year, right? We do. We are excited to have the Philadelphia Eagles back in the Super Bowl once again. Yeah, this is the rematch. yeah So this is the thing. It's like, who's going to win? So last week we kind of like talked about like, there were some questionable calls and we kind of felt like, you know, everybody wanted Kansas City in the Super Bowl. So now I want to know like,
00:11:43
Speaker
I know you do a little bit of like side hustle gambling. like What does Vegas say? Who's going to win? Well, this is as Nancy mentioned, this is a rematch of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles from a couple of years ago when the Chiefs were able to win the game. At the very end of the game, it was very, very close. There was ah you know a call or two that if it had gone the other way, it might have been a different outcome.
00:12:07
Speaker
Las Vegas this year is expecting a very close game. the the The spread, which is the number of points that they think will be between the two teams, is currently 1.5. Kansas City is favored by 1.5 points, so you know less than a 5-ball.
00:12:23
Speaker
Um, and so, and that's, that's very, very close. I mean, I think the talent that exists in and Kansas city with Patrick Mahomes and, and Kelsey and the rest of the team, uh, taking on Jalen Hertz and Saquon Barkley and all the folks in Philadelphia. Um, it should be a great ball game if both teams play like they have all year.

Eagles vs. Chiefs Speculation

00:12:42
Speaker
Okay. So who do who do you think is going to win? Like what's your gut? Who's going to win? Like I know what your heart wants, but who do you really think is going to win?
00:12:51
Speaker
We'll start with the heart. I would obviously want the Philadelphia Eagles to win. They're the hometown team. We root for them here in Philadelphia. It's a great town when they're playing well and winning. um They certainly have have played well enough all season to deserve being in the Super Bowl. And hopefully they can get it done against a very, very talented Kansas City team. um I think the game goes one of either way. I think the Eagles win the game um in a very close contest, you know decided by a touchdown or less.
00:13:21
Speaker
yeah Or I think Mahomes and team just play so exceptionally well like they have all year and they dominate the game. both sides of of Both teams have to play well on both sides of the ball. And so I think it's it's either the Eagles in a close victory or it could be a lopsided win the other way. And so I'm i'm really optimistic that the Eagles will get this done for us this year. I think the Eagles are gonna get it done.
00:13:47
Speaker
he So, you know, it's funny. i I have a friend who goes to Vegas like regularly and I called him yesterday and I asked him who he thought was going to win. And he said, I think it's going to be a close game. Like you said, he goes, but I think it's going to be a three-peat. I think Kansas City is going to win. oh The first three-peat in history. However, I will say I asked him this last year and he was wrong.
00:14:15
Speaker
yeah so I'm not sure Taylor Swift has the power to make that happen this year. so She seems to have a lot of pull. I don't know. Yeah. I mean, don't underestimate Swifty Power. Oh, my. It's like the league is certainly excited about having these these teams play each other again and have all these personalities, whether it's the Kelsey brothers, whether it's Taylor Swift, yeah whether it's, you know, East Coast versus Midwest. It's ah going to be a very, very exciting game down in New Orleans for Super Bowl 59.
00:14:48
Speaker
I will tell you that I was with a bunch of ah Girl Scouts, 10 year olds, 11 year olds, and they were talking, they were even talking about the Super Bowl. And they're

Appetizer Planning for the Big Game

00:14:57
Speaker
like, Taylor Swift's boyfriend's gonna win Taylor Swift's boyfriend. I mean, it's it' they done that that's all over it. I'm over it. I don't care. yeah Yeah. Okay. So one thing I always participate in, but I don't know how to do is like the squares. Like I think it's so fun, but I don't know how to do it. So can you talk us through how to do it?
00:15:22
Speaker
Sure. There's lots of different ways to bet the Super Bowl, but a really fun one, certainly in in big parties and big groups, is what I refer to as the Super Bowl betting grid game. And this is a fun game for everybody because it doesn't require any skills, doesn't require any knowledge of football, doesn't require any knowledge of the team or the players. It is completely luck-based.
00:15:44
Speaker
um And the way it works is you create a 10 by 10 grid of squares, which creates 100 spots. um And then you determine an individual bet size for each of those squares. You can pick any amount you want. you know For example, I'm gonna use $10 as I walk through this example. um But again, you could use any amount you you'd like.
00:16:04
Speaker
And so the prize pool ends up being the number of squares, which is 100 times that bet size, in my example, $10. And so there's $1,000 in a prize pool ah for people to to hopefully get lucky and win. um And so what you do is you've created this 10 by 10 grid.
00:16:23
Speaker
And then you you sell those squares and people choose those squares and you put your name in a box um and you know all your friends and people participate, people from work, people from your family, anybody you'd like. um And you get the whole square whole grid of a hundred squares filled up with people's names. And that creates a thousand dollars and everybody has um a grid or more. um Once that is done, you draw numbers zero through nine.
00:16:52
Speaker
So 0, 1, 2, 3, et cetera, up to 9. And you place those um as you draw them both across the top of the grid, which will be, in this case, the Eagles. And then you place them down the the left column, which will be the the Chiefs. And so these are essentially random drawn numbers, 0 to 9, that are creating the rows and the columns. And so when you're looking at how people win this game,
00:17:22
Speaker
um you determine what the payouts are how you're going to do the payouts. so And typically, um they're done on a quarterly basis. And you can set it up in different ways. You could have each quarter payout 25%. So you'd have $250 going out at the end of each quarter. You could do 20% for the first quarter, 20% for the second quarter, 20% for the third quarter,
00:17:42
Speaker
and then have a 40% payout for the fourth quarter, which is the end of the game where there's a winner ah the of the overall game. And so what you do is you use the the score at the end of each of those periods to determine what grid is the winner. And so, for example, i'll say let's say the Philadelphia Eagles have 17 points at the end of the first quarter and the Kansas City Chiefs have ah 10 points at the end of the first quarter. So you use the the last digit in the score. So 17 for the Eagles, you'd use the seven digits and 10 for the Kansas City Chiefs, you'd use the zero digit. So you'd go on the top of the box. you You go over to the column that has the seven number in it. And then you'd go down the table until you intersect the row that has the zero figure. And that grid is the winner.
00:18:31
Speaker
and you would repeat that

Betting Grid Game Excitement

00:18:32
Speaker
process at the end of each quarter. Hopefully the scores change at the end of each quarter. Oftentimes you'll see 1710 at the end of the first quarter, maybe 2710 at the end of the second quarter, maybe 3730 at the end of the third quarter. That would be great for one person, bad for everybody else because that same person would win.
00:18:51
Speaker
So hopefully and and typically the score has changed quarter by quarter. yeah and yeah And so you do that. But it's it's really fun. um It keeps everybody excited and rooting. Yeah. Correct. For sure. Like even if you're not a sports fan, like you can like totally like hone in on this, because you're going to make fun. Oh, and typically, the people that win these things, just as luck would have it, are the ones that don't even know anything about football. They think it's a soccer game, not an NFL football game when you say football. I've been at parties where we've had grandmothers and little kids win things. They had no idea what it was. And so it's exciting. I don't think we've won in a long time, have we? It's your year. We're overdue.
00:19:34
Speaker
Yeah, so you know we do. My family's been invited to do one of these like through Tim's work friend in the last like couple years. And we just happened to have won. like We've won $1,200. And last year, we weren't invited to participate in the grid because we had won eight times in a row.
00:19:54
Speaker
Well, that's great. You got some luck going on. That's awesome. Yeah, I guess so. That's awesome. Could use a little luck over here. To a really high level. I've been in places and bars and other establishments where sometimes these grids where I used a $10 example and had $1,000 prize pool.
00:20:15
Speaker
I've seen grids that are a hundred dollars a grid or even a thousand dollars a grid. Wow. And if you were to get lucky and win in those pools, having invested, you know, there are a hundred dollars or a thousand dollars per square, you might have a ah massive payout. Wow. It's pretty nuts. Yeah. yeah what did we get love do Peter this year.
00:20:38
Speaker
um I think what are we go at that we've typically done the $10 pool because that allows people to maybe bet $20 or $40 and pick two or four. or for yeah Have a couple of chances. Exactly. yeah so sorry I've created a grid that um you know we'll have, I think the the girls will have. but alice show yeah We'll put it in the show notes. Exactly. and so that that yeah it's so It's a bunch of bullet points explaining what I just said in some pictures of how the grids work.
00:21:06
Speaker
Perfect. Oh my gosh. Thank you for explaining. and now i know I feel I might have to do this. I've never done about it. I participated, but I've never like built one, but now I'm kind of feeling like maybe I need to build one. I do enjoy the gambling a little. and Yeah.
00:21:24
Speaker
Well, I mean, especially like I don't have a dog in the fight with like we haven't had a dog in the fight in forever because we're Chicago Bear fans, sadly. oh Yeah. um They just break our hearts all like every week. But um I am going to root for the Eagles this year because I'm yes, Kansas State, Kansas City in City and you guys live in Philly. So I got I got a route. Yeah, you got a route. Yeah. I'm totally mad if you guys were rooting for them.
00:21:54
Speaker
Go Eagles. I am rooting for the Eagles. I think everybody in my house is rooting for the Eagles, except for Johanna, who is rooting for Kansas City. Oh, I got to talk to her. She's a Swifty. She's a Swifty. She's a Swifty through and through. She wants her auntie more.
00:22:16
Speaker
That is true, that is true. All right, well, listen, happy. I wish everybody good luck on their squares and we'll have to see how it shakes out. Thanks for explaining, that was awesome. Yeah, thanks Peter. Go birds. All right, that was so fun to have Peter on and I hope that people listening want to try that square game. It's super fun and it's really, it's nice to have something to root for at home and it's easy.
00:22:44
Speaker
Yes. So the other cool thing I like beyond like having a game to kind of keep me into the game is I love the Super Bowl commercials. And I don't know if I'm dating myself, are Super Bowl commercials still a thing? Do you guys love the commercials? What are our thoughts on this? I think some of them are funny, but I think some of them are stupid. I mean, honestly, you're like, you spent all that money on this commercial.
00:23:14
Speaker
Well, you know, what's so crazy for me is we don't really watch TV anymore. We stream stuff so we don't watch commercials at all. I have seen some prep for some of the commercials that are coming up like And this is totally my generation, like a Harry, when Harry Met Sally commercial um with Billy k Crystal and Meg Ryan, they're kind of recreating that like cafe scene for the mayonnaise. Yeah, faking the faking the orgasm scene in the diner, right? Yes.
00:23:52
Speaker
Oh, and Sydney Sweeney's in it. So, I mean, I've already seen it, but I think that's sort of fun. I just, like, aren't commercials passé or no? I mean, I don't know. Do you think it's lame, though, that they leaked that commercial? It's like we can't wait.
00:24:07
Speaker
I mean, are we a are we coming to the point where we need instant gratification that we can't even wait to see what the commercials are going to be? Well, they're probably getting some buzz like they you're going to use Hellman's man, mayonnaise or whatever in your prep for your Super Bowl party. So maybe, I don't know, maybe it's smart. I mean, they're getting people talking. I mean, we're definitely talking about mayonnaise.
00:24:33
Speaker
Which yeah I never talk about mayonnaise. I personally cannot stand mayonnaise. I honestly, I can't handle it. And Tim. It's just egg. It's kind of like he says the same thing. It's you like eggs and you like oil. I don't understand your problem with it. But I find it disgusting. Yeah, it's ah it is a texture thing. And I don't like that. I don't know. But Kathy, you love it. You love mayonnaise. I do.
00:25:00
Speaker
I'm not sure what that says about me. But I love a good BLT and it wouldn't be the same without mayonnaise. Well, you know, I remember there were some famous Super Bowl commercials, like the Clydesdales, Budweiser always has a really good one. I've always loved those, yes. Yeah, those were always so good. And Wendy's did the Where's the Beef back in the day. That was cute. But honestly, I do anything I can to not watch commercials anymore. We just have no tolerance for it here.
00:25:36
Speaker
I probably will watch them just because it'll be on the Super Bowl, but i it's not my thing. I don't love them. I know. She has very strong feelings about commercials. I know. It's such a waste of time. It's such a waste of time. But how do know what's out there to buy if somebody doesn't advertise it though? That's what I don't understand. like You have no idea yeah how much time I spend shopping. It's ridiculous. I just talk to you girls and you tell me what I should buy.
00:26:02
Speaker
Do you feel that strongly about commercials, Kathy? As Linda does, do you detest them as much as she does? I mean, I like the ones that are actually thoughtful and make their funny to me. But I don't love them. And I usually, when the commercials come on, I usually go eat. I stuff my face. Right. That's the time to reload. A little snacky.
00:26:29
Speaker
You know, my favorite part about the Super Bowl is not the commercials. It's the halftime show, honestly. Yeah. Yeah. And the food. Yeah. But I like the performers. And I actually learned some interesting facts about um the performers because in 2019, the NFL did partner with Jay-Z and Roc Nation to become producers of the halftime show. They get the culture.
00:26:59
Speaker
of like the city, they find out what's relevant and it like all plays into how they pick the performer that year. And I guess like this year, New Orleans said that they weren't really consulted. So ah they just said that the NFL kind of decided on their own. So I think it's a little bit controversial this year.
00:27:23
Speaker
Kendrick Lamar, I don't feel like he is connected with New Orleans at all. Although he just won huge at the Grammys. Yeah, I saw that. He won a lot. Yeah. I can see why New Orleans would be like, and how does he fit into our city? I mean, he's not my jam. Why can't we have like Harry Connick Jr. do the halftime show?
00:27:43
Speaker
Oh my gosh, that would be amazing. That would be cool. I mean, he's so good and he's from New Orleans and he's just like, why can't we have him? Yeah. Well, we listened to Ken Lecombe here. I get it. I know that the young, the youth really like him. I mean, could there be both? I think it'd been an interesting thing. Could you have paired both if you felt like he was really relevant and hot in pop culture with you know, pairing something with New Orleans. I think that would have been an interesting like a little new with the olds. Right. Wasn't it like back in the day, it would be like high school or collegiate bands that did like the halftime show kind of like football in high school, they would do it and then it kind of grew from there. I think there were a lot of high school bands. And in fact,
00:28:32
Speaker
According to Rolling Stones, they did like this whole big spread on like, what was the number one till like, I think they ranked it like 30 some. Yeah. And Prince ended up being number one from 2007. It was that the c Colts versus the Bears. yeah And in that halftime, there was a band that was like,
00:28:58
Speaker
Performing the show, yeah, was part of like the sides and they all had like light up little strips on their uniforms and I mean, it's cool to watch. I mean, if you haven't seen the Prince Halftime Show. Yeah, it's cool. Look it up on YouTube. It actually rained during Purple Rain being sung. It was awesome. He was like wet. Yes. And he didn't live. It was amazing. He was such a good performer. He didn't miss a beat. He was so good. So good. It's too bad he died.
00:29:31
Speaker
Yeah. true that's so Again, drugs. no Don't do drugs. Right. Yeah. It's bad for you. You know, the only other, I really liked Shakira and JLo. Oh, did you? Yeah. I just thought they were, I liked it. Yeah. and they were I mean, I don't know. I struggle. I struggle with JLo. I just, I don't know. I don't love her. I know people do, but she's not my favorite. And I feel like, you know,
00:30:01
Speaker
I don't know. I feel weird saying that, but she's not my favorite. Like I know it should be like woman, woman power. And I do my hats off to you. You've made quite a career, but there's just something about her. I just don't enjoy. You don't like her life choices.
00:30:14
Speaker
Well, I mean, I don't know about that. Like, I mean, as long as it doesn't affect me, like you get to live your life however you want. But I i do. I just don't love her. Yeah. Yeah. So well but i'm I'm still interested to see the halftime show. Like i I always look forward to it, even though I don't totally understand this choice with New Orleans. I'm there for it. I will not take a food break.
00:30:37
Speaker
and i'll be in front of the tv watching it well another interesting fact is those performers they actually don't get paid like i don't know by this because it didn't know that that would be part of the gig why you would want it but it's just all all the publicity generates money for them, right? So they're like, they're not out money because the NFL pays like their transportation, their production costs and stuff like that. But what but what is huge for them is their spikes in their sales and albums sales. Like it's just off the charts.
00:31:14
Speaker
Well, it's probably like Nikki Glaser, you know, she just hosted the Golden Globes. And she's like, I didn't get I got paid, and I'm happy with what I got paid with. But you know, it's not crazy amount. But what they do for me is make me visual. And people are googling me wanting to go to my show. So the advertisement just as you're saying for her, really works out. So that's their payment is getting them out there. Right.
00:31:39
Speaker
Alright, so halftime show and Super Bowl, we got to talk about food. So let's talk about what's on the menu. So at our house, we do a lot of dips, like we're dip people, um lots of chips and dips and like charcuterie and crudite. And then sometimes I'll do like a chili or sometimes I'll do sandwiches, depending on how many people I um was shocked that a lot of people order pizza. I've never ordered pizza for the Super Bowl for some reason.
00:32:21
Speaker
I, the last time we actually hosted a Super Bowl party, I made homemade wings. I made all these dips. I had chips. and I mean, I just felt like cookies. We had everything. And one of my guests was said to me the next day when I saw her, she's like, I felt so ill after your party.
00:32:44
Speaker
almost like ah Oh, well, that seems like a you problem, not a me problem. Like, I felt bad like so I mean, is she saying that she felt ill because there was so much yummy food and she just ate too much? Or is she saying that you physically made her sick with what you served? No, I mean, I didn't like cause her food poisoning, but she ended up having at a gluten issue, which I think was very prevalent that night because she ate a lot of the stuff that was served. yeah So it just made me like aware, like I need to probably
00:33:23
Speaker
you know be mindful of the gluten so i'm gonna serve i think i'm gonna serve like um It's called Candied Bacon Smokies. Has no gluten in it. And I'm also going to make Buffalo Chicken Dip that doesn't have gluten in it either. Yeah. I am going to say just one thing is that I think it's amazing that you're being thoughtful of having some gluten free options when you know somebody has a gluten issue. But I will also say, I feel like the person who has a gluten problem or any
00:34:00
Speaker
problem with food needs to be highly aware of what they're putting in their body and maybe also bring things that they know that they can eat that will not cause them a problem. Yes. Um, so I just feel like you're responsible for your own body. yeah Yeah. So you guys Riley sent me, uh, he sent me a text message with, um, goal gold, gold, uh, gold belly. Yeah.
00:34:28
Speaker
Is that right? goldbelly.com. that You can order from restaurants all across. Yeah, so goldbelly.com. Riley sent me this, this link to and he's just like, Mom, did you know this existed? And it's fried chicken, but it's not fried chicken. It's ice cream that looks like fried chicken that you can order like nine pieces for like $109 or something.
00:34:52
Speaker
He's like, this is what we need at our Super Bowl this year. okay that's to me When you sent that to me, that looks nasty. I don't know if I'm into it either, but I'm kind of curious. like Should I order this just out of curiosity? Would it be good? I have no idea. I mean, isn't that a lot of money just to spend on ice cream?
00:35:16
Speaker
Yeah, nine pieces. Yeah, nine pieces of like basically a piece of ice cream that looks like a chicken leg. Yeah, I mean, that ah has to be hard to create. And it is sort of interesting. But I think it would mess with my head, I would be like trying to eat my chicken, but I bite in and it's ice cream. And I would be like,
00:35:37
Speaker
very confused. My taste buds would be confused. I know. When he first, when he first showed me this, I'm like, wait, what are you talking about? Like they, they coated ice cream and like actual chicken. And he, thought he laughed. He's like, no, mom, it's just ice cream. I mean, that's like such a rage too, is like making foods that look like other things and like, is it real or not or whatever. But I don't know. I feel like so that gold belly, I think is an an amazing sight. So listeners, if you've never looked it up,
00:36:10
Speaker
look it up if they have every restaurant, every like little specialty thing. So if you really want coconut cake, you can buy Ina Gardens coconut cake and it shows up at your house or Tom Cruise's coconut cake from l LA is on there. Yeah. So they've got everything you can get Italian beef, you could do all the things and they deliver it in like this dry ice box.
00:36:36
Speaker
clearly I've done it before and it is great. It's a little expensive no matter what you get, but it's kind of cool. I think that I've said, I wouldn't do that. I'm more like scrappy, like junk food, like you try and do a couple of healthy things, but it's just an afternoon of like debauchery and yumminess, you yelling and sweatshirts and games. And I wouldn't spend the money on it.
00:37:04
Speaker
You know, two of my favorite things that I seem to always have for game day recently are is that I make um potato skins, like those old school, like 80s potato skins that are so delicious. And then mom used to make this all the time, but she doesn't anymore. But the water chestnuts wrapped in bacon oh yeah are also delicious. good Yeah, that would be very good.
00:37:31
Speaker
So, yeah. You know, I did come across like ah that a fun little nugget that you guys should be aware of just because we don't want to have too much regret the next day, right? Yeah, there's always regret. Like how many calories do you think we eat during the Super Bowl? oh Probably a lot, like a thousand. No, way more.
00:37:58
Speaker
So it's funny, I looked at this article and it ranked like, did a survey of like 1200 fans, but I ended up just picking out like our areas. So I did Philadelphia, Tennessee, and l LA. So Linda, Tennessee people eat way more than Nancy and I do. I don't know what it is about Tennessee, but you guys have fried chicken.
00:38:26
Speaker
Well, you eat almost like almost 3400 calories. That's whoa. That is a big number. Stop it. Whoa. who And then Nancy comes. L.A. is better, actually, that California 2400. And then Philadelphia is, you know, not great. It's twenty nine hundred. But, you know, what I found to that's funny is Texas actually eats the most.
00:38:53
Speaker
so Well, you know I feel like that track's for Texas. Everything's big in Texas. Everything's bigger in Texas. We love Texas. That's funny. But anyway, I just you know i want everyone to have fun. Eat your hearts out. Who cares? Eat the ice cream chicken leg. Eat the ice cream chicken leg. Yeah.
00:39:15
Speaker
All right, well, good luck. Whoever you're rooting for, it's going to be interesting. So what's for dinner, you all? I feel like I'm going to try some of these appetizers and do a dry run through and see what see what sounds good for game day. Yeah. So this isn't for dinner, but this is something I'm going to serve and I do pretty regularly at parties like this is that a taco dip. So it's surf cold. It's easy to have out. It can, you know, sit at room temperature for a while. It's layered. It's not like a layer. It's not that seven layer, but it's a taco dip. So we'll put that at the
00:39:51
Speaker
in the show notes. Give it a try. It's very easy and delicious. Or maybe we should all go on a liquid diet until game day so then we don't feel bad eating our 3000 calories. go And that's like two days worth of food. That's crazy. Yeah. In one sitting. Start thinking about it now. Just wear your stretchy pants. It will be fine. It's fine. We'll do a couple extra miles the next day. Yeah.
00:40:16
Speaker
