Introduction to 'The Fellowship of the Tabletop'

00:00:28
Speaker
Hello and welcome to this week's episode of The Fellowship of the Tabletop. Thank you so much for joining us. We are a live Play 5e D&D podcast and we all sit around, we find time in our busy business schedules to sit around the table and play D&D. Our intrepid trouble is around the table with us today. We have Will, who plays Elphic. Hi Will. Hi. We have Downey Blizz Robin, hello.
00:00:50
Speaker
Hi. We have Danny, who plays Claude. Hello. And we also have Ian, who plays Drogo. Hi.

The Battle and Shader's Disintegration

00:00:57
Speaker
So, shall we all roll a d20 to see who will do our recap? That's okay. I don't want to do this one. Oh, Danny gets to choose. So, let's go... Will, what did you get? I got a 6. 6. Darren, for 2. A natural 20. A natural 20. 15. And a 15. Danny, you get to choose an actual 20 who you want to do it. I would like the lovely Ian.
00:01:25
Speaker
Okay so last episode was one massive fight and now I've been new to D&D when I first started this I don't know who we'd call it face and stuff like that so I'm just gonna go straight off the top of my head. We started the episode with Drago looking down the edge of a room and there was at the back of this room massive portal and a big tentacle like guy
00:01:50
Speaker
and stood outside of it and we engaged in battle. It was a hard fought battle. More guys came through the portal at the time, tried to push him back, they came forward and then the guy with the big tentacle face and the big old casting book was trying to charm me, trying to charm Shader, eventually charmed Elthea.
00:02:12
Speaker
Elthea dropped Drago down with a series of flowy blows and the party looked in dire straits and then we I saw fucking shit because you didn't expect a character that's make-believe to hit you as hard as it has but then unfortunately during the battle Shader after
00:02:34
Speaker
fiercely attacking three times reckless frenzy axon searched for another two attacks and managed to hit 87 points of damage in his final hurrah moment was disintegrated into a pile of ash and that has hit the group very hard

Coping with Shader's Death

00:02:55
Speaker
Robin being angered by this, to say the least, let loose an arrow that would finally kill the bastard that killed Shader and the battle ended, the portal disintegrated, Elthea came back to his senses, Drago was awakened through a health potion and the group had to try and console themselves with what just happened.
00:03:19
Speaker
Claude being fairly new to the group and unsure of what to do after sending Shader. We moved away from the group with Talia. Talia in a fit of rage went and smacked. Don Darian. Don Darian.
00:03:36
Speaker
Jelana's in the face a few times and we've just come to the groups just adjusting to shade our death and we closed it with Drago sitting over Helikin's yeah Helikin or hey Helikine Helikine Helikine's journal and scribing on there something about you said that you would avoid unnecessary hurt and pain what do you plan to do about this and that's how we ended the episode didn't it
00:04:05
Speaker
It's so important to note that we haven't kicked Callum out because Shadar's died. We are. He's just not here because he's making another character and hasn't joined us this week. It's important to note we haven't killed him and then kicked him out. Or killed him in real life. Yeah, yeah. Just for legal purposes he is still alive. He is indeed. Thank you very much for that. Difficult introduction

Return and Decision-Making in the Tower

00:04:25
Speaker
to him. Thanks very much for that.
00:04:34
Speaker
Kill us all, why don't you? Just a bit of perspective, in case you are listening to this, or you will be listening to it maybe a week after, or if you wait a couple of weeks and you're listening to this kind of binge, we've done a couple of episodes, these last two episodes back to back, and this is the third one we've done in that set, so this is, it might have been a week for some of you, but it's been literally about 10 minutes.
00:04:53
Speaker
As the party starts to make their way back quietly shuffling through the tower, as you move down the staircase, there is a bright sun now shining through the windows. Still lots of dust

Discussion on the Undead and Journey to Clay Peak

00:05:09
Speaker
in the air, but there's silence. Claude, you get a real sense that this area's been kind of cleansed and cleared. You haven't done your
00:05:25
Speaker
kind of come off your shoulders, all of you, a weight's kind of come off your shoulders in a very, very different weight that's been now placed upon it in a different form.
00:05:44
Speaker
There were a couple of rooms we didn't check. In this area, there's a door to the left and to the right, if anyone did want to. Or there's the front doors, and you walk outside into the fresh air of the Bazelman swamp. The sun is shining down bright, there's a cloud in the sky, and we still have a couple of the bodies out there. Julanus is walking out with you, Tanya is walking out with you. No one's really talking. Alpha is already out there. Yes, so you're waiting. Alpha's already out there. So Alpha, Alpha's literally stood.
00:06:12
Speaker
in the middle of the clearing with his back to the tower and sort of hip as a breeze or whatever he's just he's just stood with his back down very very still. Claude's sort of got his some supporting Drilanes because he's probably still trying to gather his strength a bit so just walking with him in his arms. As they're walking out Drilanes very clearly has a sense of the situation, looks
00:06:40
Speaker
Yeah, I think it'd be safe to say that something bad happened. I'm sorry. I didn't know these people all that well, but they lost someone close to there. We can all understand how that feels. Yeah.
00:06:55
Speaker
I feel I should thank them, but I don't feel now. Maybe not, you know, maybe not right now. But maybe when we get back and they've had some chance to process it. Do you know where we're

Honoring Shader's Legacy

00:07:07
Speaker
heading? I think Clay Peak might be the closest place. Everyone's a bit battered and bruised. Of course, if there's anything I can do, do let the others know I'm here helping my capacity. How long were you gone? How long were you in that tower? How did you get captured?
00:07:26
Speaker
I came into the swamp for one reason. That reason was to... I'd heard rumours of the undead appearing in the swamp and we feared another blight. Well, why didn't you report it to the hailstorm? We only thought it was hearsay and rumours. We didn't want to send out a battalion of the hailstorm surge for a rumour. So, me and my... Normally these rumours turn out to be true. I know. In hindsight,
00:07:58
Speaker
assumed their death seeing them now it brings it all home. Yes I should have reported it I know that now but I didn't want to with the war effort going on to draw men away for such a small thing I thought
00:08:18
Speaker
of another blight what they have stopped is another blight springing up because that thing that portal I've heard them creep past that door all hours of the day hour after hour I've heard more footsteps leaving that room to never return so if if you hadn't done what you'd done this would have been the second coming of the blight in the Basingwind Swamp so
00:08:46
Speaker
Maybe you can tell them where. They're not from these lands, so they don't really understand or like friends. But I will try my best to pass on that message. But yeah, next time. Well, maybe the best thing you can do is spread word to the other parts of sleep garden.
00:09:13
Speaker
and to Goldview as well. If

Remembering Shader as a Prince and Leader

00:09:16
Speaker
you would tell me in good time who it was that was lost, I will pass message on to those in Goldview to see that he is status as a hero of Snakeheart. I think they would like that. I will pass that on. Are you still hurt? To be honest, the fresh air is helping massively. It's good to be outside of that castle, outside of
00:09:46
Speaker
I can walk. I think I can move. He kind of just separates a little bit from me and kind of just structures out a little bit. So he kind of turns to the rest of you. Thank you for saving me. I understand there has been some loss and any again gestures to those around him. I also feel your pain. I've lost those close to me.
00:10:20
Speaker
Is your life worth more than his? Probably not. Well then. Uh, Drago just walks onto that, doesn't he? You have to help the ears, just words. Robin, did we... Did someone collect his ashes? Come on, have them. No, you have them. Oh, of course, thank you, partner. You have them. Yep.
00:10:54
Speaker
Robin, can I carry them? If you wish. I know him the longest. Without saying anything, I just take them out of the bag of holding and hand them over to Althea. Thank you, Althea takes them and sort of just tucks them into his hands reverently and then he walks and starts going back the path they took from Clay Peak. Okay.
00:11:22
Speaker
unless anyone else stops him. Oh yeah, I think we'd all venture. Yeah. Just walking on stoically. Does anyone know what Shader liked to do to pass the time? Maybe we could do the same. It was Dwarf. He drank with the best of them. I think we should all just carry on to Claybeat. Go and find the nearest tavern and have a drink in his name. Are there
00:11:53
Speaker
Where are the dwarves in this land? There aren't any dwarves around these parts. I've not seen a dwarf for one, we, two, three, four or five years,

Arrival and Celebration at Clay Peak Tavern

00:12:11
Speaker
I think. I was saying. I couldn't help but hearing. There are some dwarves in this land, but they live far.
00:12:21
Speaker
far far to the east it's normally rich yes no wonder you haven't heard of them they keep themselves very insular it's the uh the high jade heartlands they're almost the furthest west you can go they only share one border with the scarlet realm and they do not mix much high jade heartlands jade heart
00:12:56
Speaker
or trying to hurt you, but he doesn't do that at all. I've seen in some of the... they see them in this angry land, but I've never seen one. I've never seen one. I saw he was a pet. And as I said that... Yes, I mean, I think the massive sword, I instantly assumed he was... I thought it was like, you know, donkeys carry goods.
00:13:19
Speaker
Dragonborns carry goods. I can see how, Claude, you might ruffle some feathers, so to speak. It's very confusing. If we cannot return back to our own world,
00:13:41
Speaker
Shailar's remains should be left to reside with those of his people amongst the shrines to their forefathers as is the dwarven tradition. Or we could scatter him across the ocean as his hometown wasn't a port. He would feel at home in the waters rather than with a bunch of dwarfs he's never met. Shailar was very particular with people he never met.
00:14:08
Speaker
But ancestry's important at all. Why do you think you're not gonna go home? We've been here a long time now. It's only logical to think such things. But we should hold out until we know more. If you don't mind, obviously, carrying his remains. I'll happily take them. No, you can't. It's fine. Well, I'll happily help you find your way home if you want. Can you bridge the gap between worlds?
00:14:37
Speaker
I think this is a conversation for another day. For now, I think we should just fill our minds with shadar, go and find a tavern, rest up, and drink in his honour. Because, regardless of everything, he did die a warrior's death, one that we would all be proud of. Me especially.
00:15:02
Speaker
And with that, we enter into the swamp and we follow deftly our path that we've made, trudged slowly, but quicker actually than the way through because we didn't get lost, we could follow the path. We come across the large, fallen, almost ashen-looking coloured trees that you felt, which now feels a lifetime ago. You continue to walk through and you get through the swamp quicker
00:15:34
Speaker
now still and quiet almost as if the nature around feels the ambient mood and it's almost matching it. Continue to walk through and make it to the other side of the basement swamp and the sun is low in the sky but because we didn't get lost we got through that much much quicker so you've probably got another two or three hours of daylight which will get you within an hour
00:16:10
Speaker
But if you wanted, there's a choice basically. You could get to the other side of the swamp and camp where you camped previously, out in the open on the other side of the swamp, or you could trudge on through the night for another hour after it runs to the sunset to get back to Clay Peak in time. It's up to you. So I imagine that drill-outs is kind of regaining.
00:16:40
Speaker
Oh, I did have some torches. I'm very sorry. I have one. Oh, excellent. I passed him a torch. I couldn't do it. Talia, your knife glows in the dark. She doesn't even listen. I have a light that can trip and I've got a torch. Cool, okay, yeah. He kind of stands with it for a second, looking, kind of pats himself down and realizes it hasn't got to be flipped. Talia just reaches out with her hand without saying anything and just lights it up.
00:17:16
Speaker
He just doesn't,

Tavern Revelry and Shader's Warrior Spirit

00:17:17
Speaker
he just deals with it and has the heat of the sun and the heat of the torch but he doesn't he just deals with it as you continue to walk through to Clay Peak. We get back to the eastern side of
00:17:33
Speaker
the back wall of the obsidian black walls of the building of the citadel where the other trades the quarter and you coast round the side of that and end up like kind of the butt end of the port quarter the sun has set it's been about an hour it's dark but the air's still quite warm that's not a cloud in the sky it's been a really clear day the end of the port you can hear the laughing of people just a general hubbub of noise of a town that's slowly kind of gearing up for for the night
00:18:03
Speaker
You walk into the centre of the South District and you see the well that blessed the eggs in the well where we met our friend who believes that the undead were our friends. He's not there at the moment. There are a couple of torches around the space as well, lit in these little plinths, so the place has a nice warm kind of glow to it. There's a couple of people walking as they pass, each kind of looking at you and then also making eye contact with Julianis and, oh my god, there's Julian.
00:18:30
Speaker
there's a bit of a hubbub around that as people realise that tremendous walking through he seems to kind of guess yes thank you thank you but he's very keen to just kind of back them away not now kind of thing as they come to him as you walk through the South District and down I'm guessing that into the tavern that you stayed at. Check on Braden. Sorry. Check on Braden. I'm Braden. The beggars hall that's where we're going yeah but Braden
00:19:02
Speaker
And he goes, oh, Trillias, it is you, and it's Sergeant Lemberg, the guy who sent you out on this mission to begin with. Oh, fantastic. Captain, there's so much I need to discuss with you. And he just shuts them straight down. Not now. I'll speak to you in the morning. Can you please just fuck off? And it's starting to kind of look to him, stunned. Don't forget to come back with our award. Yes, I, yes.
00:19:35
Speaker
I dumbstruck, but he leaves nonetheless. Drona is a drone artist, kind of waits for a second to sign this thing there. Sorry, I knew that was going to happen. I just wanted him to... wanted him to... go away. He's okay. Elthi is right. We have got an award to accept. I understand. I'll make sure that is delivered. May I... join you and buy you a...
00:20:03
Speaker
I don't want to impose. I think Shaddar would have quite liked the idea of more people joining in on what will be a celebration of him. Well, I'll be honoured to join you in, please. It's on clay peak tonight. Was it Shaddar, his name? Yes. Well, we drove to Shaddar.
00:20:26
Speaker
And he opens the doors to the tavern and there's a few people dotted around, it's quite empty, and you do see Braddon kind of running around taking a few drinks and he realises then that drill out, oh it's drill honest, you're here, that's so great to see you again, I'm so happy that you're
00:20:41
Speaker
Here. Oh, and you're all here as well. This is fantastic. I've got a table in the middle. It's empty. It's just for you. Hello. Thank you, Brandon. Do we want a room on our own, or are we happy to be here? Oh, we're happy to be here. Happy to be... I'm happy you're here. And Drulanis is with you too. Yes, I am, but please, son, just, um... A round of drinks. Yes. For us all, please. Brandon, do you want some help again? Some help? No, thank you. I am much better at it now.
00:21:09
Speaker
Can I take your drinks order for the evening and Joanna's turns and says they'll have whatever they want and it's you get you give me what they bought and I will be paying for it tonight. So I give you the money and you know I get the drinks. Brandon just brings the drink. Drinks. What drinks can I get? Ale. And ale for the
00:21:30
Speaker
for the elf man for you sir your beauty with the bow uh at this point i've not said anything i've just upon hearing it's carte blanche i've walked to the uh bar and i've just grabbed the first bottle of whiskey i can see whisk bottle i've already taken it yeah bottle whiskey he writes down uh self service that doesn't lower the price but thank thank you sir for yourself claud the usual the usual pint of milk yeah i've got should still have some got some milk especially packed there for you sir uh
00:21:59
Speaker
um ale ale for the dragon man the dragon man uh young lady what do you like to drink um ale for her as well and maybe a milk just in case ale and a milk that is an interesting combination not in the same glass not not in the same two s's for glass not at the beginning okay
00:22:29
Speaker
And captain for yourself, just an ale, please. Captain Drew Lannister says, ale. You all look sad. I'm going to bring you some food. And he just scuppers off for himself to get you some drinks. And there's a fire in the corner. And there's just the quiet hubbub of kind of groups of
00:23:03
Speaker
So it's just quite a normal culture that you hear those kind of words and it's nothing to... It's not an NPC with a...
00:23:11
Speaker
Yeah, I'm not resisting. I'm not resisting. Not in the light. No, you're not in the light and not with the next place in the light. Did they have a little extra noise above their head? No, I didn't want you to get the idea. Oh, it's a new question. It's just, yeah, it's certainly ambience. It's quiet though. You can hear the crack of the fire. It's warm. And you're sat at this nice, large, open wooden table, circular table, chairs are comfy, a slight creek to them.
00:23:35
Speaker
Oh God rest. As Brennan's, yeah, brings back out the drinks. Ail, you have your bottle, here's your milk, and your ale, and your ale, Madam. Thank you. And your milk as well, Madam, you must be very thirsty. And Captain Drew Linus, here is your ale. Thank you very much, Erna Brennan. Can I ask that you don't come back for a bit? Please. Yes, okay. That's fine. But I do have one question to ask.
00:24:03
Speaker
Where is the dwarf? Because he was my height and... Brendan, do you want to get an ale for yourself? An ale for me? Yes. I've never had one. Okay. Is it tasty? I will get one and I will try. I'll tell you what, you go and get one. If Mr. Drilinus is paying, I will not say no. Just don't tell my dad. And he goes off and conjurely pours himself and puts it down. What? So I drink it.
00:24:32
Speaker
Uh, Dragon takes his drink. Looks around everyone else. Everyone. Shader died. A warrior's death. And I think we can all agree he was a great warrior. Who fought to the

Musical Tribute to Shader

00:24:46
Speaker
bitter end. To Shader. And then he just picks his drink up. And, uh, downs it. Talia holds her ale up. He looked after me and
00:25:06
Speaker
I don't know what I'm gonna do without him. She doesn't drink as she spits back down and head kind of lowers. Elfie raises glass. Claude's hand's been up to shade our- Oh, a very long time. Oh, sorry. Oh, shade our steel for son of warden. The wolf prince of his city. To shade our steel for son of warden.
00:25:35
Speaker
I don't know if it takes a drink. I'm drinking here another drink. Brennan's kind of sat there with his drink. So... You drink, yes. I drink, yeah. You do. Can we get more now? We'll go get more. I understand now. Maybe a large bucket would be...
00:26:04
Speaker
I'm sorry. I'm very sorry. It's all right. And it sucks. It's not a nice feeling. No one should go through that. And I will get the biggest barrel I can find. It's downstairs. Do you want a hand? Would you mind?
00:26:33
Speaker
anyone really and they're all the same. I'll just pick it up, put it on my shoulder. You take it up, there's a little table he pulls up next to it, you place it down, has some stands next to it, punks a hole in it, sets up a small wooden kind of lock, lock tap. Tap and swallow. Yep mate, I don't want to thank you very much. Has it set up and just goes, I'll get, I'm making you snacks.
00:27:04
Speaker
Don't forget to bless the good lad. So? So, he'd hate to think about us right now being morbid. Then the question is, what do we do now? I think that's a question for tomorrow, Althea. Can I ask a question? One, one question. It's never one question with you. What was Shader's home like?
00:27:33
Speaker
He lived, you've been there. Yes. So he lived in a city called Warnden. Warnden, which was on an island off the coast of the Sword Coast. And it was a city filled with dwarves and people of all kinds. And they mined the minerals in the island and created great weapons of steel and iron. And he was a prince on the island.
00:28:00
Speaker
His was the son of the Lord of the island, yes. So, have friends.
00:28:07
Speaker
Or did he do for a living? Did he always adventure with you? Did he do some mining? He wasn't the traditional son. I know him from my travels. He was a traveller, he was filled with wanderlust and he did things he trained and the various people. I think his father wanted him to learn how to be a man of the world before, or to war for the world before he came to rule the city.
00:28:37
Speaker
How did you meet him, all of you? He was tied up with Orcs. He was tied up with Orcs. He was. Orcs are tied up. Sounds dangerous. Sounds like a good introduction, but was his way. He always kind of fell into trouble. I first met him in the ashes of a village that had been massacred. But we all met him again.
00:29:03
Speaker
A few a year later, half I'd met Robin and Drago. You never said no to a challenge. No, he did not. We

Magical Antics and Entertainment

00:29:11
Speaker
had many challenges, him and I. A drinking competition, we had an arm wrestle. Another drinking competition. Another drinking competition. I mean, he lost them all. He did lose them all. I think he had a cooking competition with you, Alfie. He lost that as well. He was always a man of dwarf that
00:29:30
Speaker
Yes, he did. He faced his challenges head on. He did. Even if not necessarily... Being a head shorter didn't help. No. I hope we can get back to one. Well that's... I'd like to deliver his axe to his father. Don't forget it's not really his axe.
00:29:54
Speaker
It's his axe more now than it ever was. Do you mean it's not his axe? Well, we acquired it from a bad man. Which makes it his axe. What about his cape? I didn't pick that up. The cape, I don't know where we found it. We have to have found it somewhere. In one of our travels, we found it. You look quite funny as a bat.
00:30:25
Speaker
Bat. Wow. But with a beard. Imagine. A bat with a beard. Yeah. Had a beard. I've never seen that. But a bearded bat. No. What else could he do? Glide. He could drink. He could fight. Yeah, he could. You want to know what I think Shayna would like? Points across the table at the dragon and goes, I think you'd like to know what a dragon bat looked like.
00:30:56
Speaker
Surely you look like a dragon but small. What would anyone want to find out? I am not going to be a dragon bat. I'm just looking in the back of... I am exhausted. Drago's clothing. You love wings. I've always been to us. And I don't have any clothing on my top. Oh. I'm top lass. Right. Cool. Who was the master?
00:31:23
Speaker
Mustn't ask. No, no. It's just a master. Give me the damn cape. Do you not have names for your gods here? I don't have many gods. Many of them have names. I would like to see... I would like to see the flying dragon man. He needs to be in darkness then. What? He needs to go outside. I could just do it... As this conversation is going on, Draggy is drinking more and more.
00:31:52
Speaker
Brandon's sat there very confused. So the dragon can turn into a bat. We're about to find out. Wait a minute, does that mean you are a human that have turned into a dragon, chosen to be a dragon, that can turn into a bat? I wouldn't trouble yourself with what. You wonder why I get confused. Claude, I don't ever wonder why. I'm not a learned man. The captain is a learned man. I'm getting a headache. Am I turned into a bat or not? Yes. I sincerely hope so. I would rather like to see this, actually. OK, I'll take the cloak.
00:32:22
Speaker
Is it dwarf size? Yes, it is. It's basically like your middle shoulder. So Dragon takes this dwarf size cloak. You could wear it over one shoulder. Like a fop. He tries to, yeah, he puts it over one shoulder, tries to tie it down. Like you would a single shoulder pad.
00:32:47
Speaker
of armour almost over the shoulder, mate. Yeah, just tucks it in. And then I'm sure, because he doesn't know how to use the thing, he's never used it before. Well, you need to really think about B coming back. Well, this is Althea saying. Yeah. OK, after looking at Althea quizzically, and the alcohol's starting to flow, he try and go, he just stands there, kind of lifts his arms out and does a tentative flap. Don't you have to be in darkness.
00:33:13
Speaker
I did just, are we outside now? No. I didn't ask if they can blow their candles out after the fire. We need to be outside. Can I say? Yeah. Okay. What if everyone closes their eyes? And you have to say, when you hold a finger, you have to say, up, up, away, I'm a bat. I never, ever heard him say that. You didn't see him use it. I did see him use it. Plenty of times. Okay, I'll go outside. Is this like the blessing the egg thing holds? Yeah.
00:33:43
Speaker
You have to be naked when you flap the bat. Someone's doing a joke but this seems very serious. A couple of the Patreons as well have kind of listed. I'm gonna be a bat! Who wants to see this dragonborn become a bat? Everyone's hand goes up.

I've got over 12 competitors. Braden pays a gold as well. He steals one. We need to go outside there. There's 13, 14 Vitalia, Drulanis, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19. I don't have enough. Yeah, you guys don't pay. Just for other matrices. 19 people. Basically, this place is emptying to see this happen.
00:34:32
Speaker
No pressure. So they all walk outside muttering all the time. Don't you need to attune yourself to this part? I do. Probably takes an hour to get this closed together. This is amazing. I mean I've made money out of this already. Yeah. Think how mobile you can be now. Okay. Dragon pet. You going outside? I'm going outside. People are piling out. Someone likes to torch and put them in the plinth outside.
00:35:00
Speaker
And the other one goes, oh we know if he's a bat, we can't see anything. I'll do a bat sound. I've got a car. And the other one goes, I don't really know what a bat sound is. Well, exactly. This might be our first then. Oh, OK. There's a jovality to it. Everyone's kind of jaunting each other. Dragon bat, dragon bat.
00:35:28
Speaker
Well, I'll be a dragon butt. I'm just gonna join in. Yeah, be a dragon butt. Okay. Yeah, be a dragon butt. Okay. And the dragon's a little bit nervous about this here.
00:35:44
Speaker
and he takes the cloak once more and he kind of ties it to his shoulder again totally unsure how it only seems shade undo this a couple of times just kind of looks at everyone wears the cloak sticks his arms out tries to flap once twice can you make a religion check

00:37:07
Speaker
gasps around you as... Everyone can just say screeches. Yeah, there you go. Yes, look, he has become a bat. Everyone starts clapping. I'm really, really confused. When you said bat, I thought you meant like a sports bat.
00:37:34
Speaker
But you meant a flying bird bat. Yes. Why would a cape turn you into a bat? Why would that be useful in any remote way, Claude? I've been thinking this for a few hours now. Do you think I'm up, Claude? I do. Does it ever work?
00:37:55
Speaker
Yes, I can successfully think. Does it ever hurt? A lot. I thought so. I have to ask, how long do you bat for? How do I stop being a bat also? I can't tell you. You can't ask us. You can't ask us. We can't tell you.
00:38:11
Speaker
Tanya starts scrolling through the book. Actually, I spoke to Shirdar about this and he told me about it. I've written it in the back of my dad's book and she thumps in the back pages and you can see the scroll changes from a very academic score to some kind of young trying very hard to be academic text and she looks over it and starts reading it. If you drop the cork,
00:38:35
Speaker
You don't become a bat. But how? And if you're not in dim darkness, you're not a bat. And you can use your... You can change yourself back. But it doesn't say how. While you're in the back, you get everything. You're the same in your mind. You can't use it till the next morning. I'm hearing this as a media. You've just gone on a little torch and walked over to where the bat is. Tell her you're hurting. I'm not going to set him on fire, Claude.
00:39:05
Speaker
As the torch gets closer, the dragon does what he does with him. Oh my god. Oh my god. You could see in the dark though. Oh me. Oh they all start pouting again. That was supposed to do it. Okay. And I take the cloak and I give it back. Okay I've done it. All 12 of them start chanting. Good.
00:39:26
Speaker
But dragon shouldn't do that. He goes from bat dragon to butt dragon. That's your new name. Where'd you get the cake from? I punted shite. An old friend. Can I buy it? No.
00:39:57
Speaker
What? Back. Elph, back, Elph, back. Turn to the ground. I couldn't do other things in darkness. What? What? What did you just say? What can you do in darkness? I've got like frozen sneeze and that's how you fear. I don't think I want to hear this and she walks into it. Elph is shadow steps 60 feet down the street.
00:40:25
Speaker
Oh, I can walk and... There's no shadows, literally swallow him up. And then he comes, appears out of shadow, 60 feet down the face. But it's not an animal though. No, you can ask me if I could do an animal. You said you could do cooler things than that. But I said I could do other things. Oh. Do something impressive. Okay, I can down a whole bowl of milk in a second. Bet you can't. Yep. I can. Give you a gold, says you can't. Oh, right. That's a lot of money.
00:40:59
Speaker
I think it's time you accept this challenge. I'm gonna go in. Brandon, give me your... Excuse me. I will get the bowl. The biggest bowl you've got? No. We agreed on a bowl. It's just another one of his bowl drinking competitions. Right, I'll get the bowl. Yeah. Just remembered empty the cat food this time. Yeah, yeah. Sorry about that still from before. It was okay. This is good shit. I like challenges. Alright, he goes away and he gives...
00:41:26
Speaker
washing a bowl and comes back out. Here's the bowl then. We need milk, don't we? I have five pints. Do you? Here you go. You can have them. You've given me a lot. I'm very polite and you didn't drink it in my presence. That's very polite of you. Good etiquette that is.
00:41:49
Speaker
No, we've got massive cats here. I've brought you the proper cat bowl. Okay. You know, the bowl. The one that holds five points. Well, it's more like two. Okay. Oh, I see. In a second. That's easy. All right. It's basically, that one broke unfortunately, you see. So I've got him a bigger one because he's a bit thin and I think he might be dead because his food wasn't been touched. What? Is there a dead animal? Where is he?
00:42:17
Speaker
I don't know where Jefferson is. Oh my god, are you going to drink the damn milk? There is a dead animal. It's fine. It could be anywhere now. Anyway. Perhaps we should drink to its memory. We're already drinking a one. I will hold the other spare pints of milk. Are you going to do it as well? He's not very fun. He didn't do the eggs, remember? When he starts to drink the bowl, I want to use a slight of hand to keep topping it up with the other milk in my hand. Okay.
00:42:45
Speaker
So I'm holding this bowl with two hands and then he's going to put his face in the drink and I've got a second to down it. And I'm going to top it like so. I said I can down a bowl of milk in a second. Yes. There's no way you can. Just flip it over. Milk just falls to the ground. Just ruined. Gold please. Perfectly good milk. I downed milk. Gold please. To be fair Alfie, he has downed the milk. He has actually.
00:43:15
Speaker
And Brandon just pokes at the arm and goes, you've got done. He did you with the thing. He kind of did you there. I'll say sort of looks at Brandon with sort of a, you know, a face that doesn't look very jovial. Can I have a look please? Brandon, is there any musicians in this town?
00:43:41
Speaker
I might know one. Get the bards going. He's funny though. We will celebrate. We've heard his tune before. Oh yeah. We've heard his tune before. Just the best damn musicians you've got. I don't know. I'll have a look. I know one guy. Captain Dolanis. Yes. Musicians. I might know an old chap from the Obsidianus that might be
00:44:15
Speaker
I have a flute if anyone wants to play. Why do you have a flute that you can't play? I would like to learn but I can't remember what to do. Blow it. Cheeky. I blow it while it's not anywhere near my face. I challenge the strongest person in here to an arm wrestle. In honour of my friend. Who dares accept my challenge? I will. Wait a minute, you're on disadvantage actually. How are you?
00:44:47
Speaker
I cast guidance on myself secretly. You sit down at a smaller table just off to the side probably. Arms closed into his dragon claw. This is a strength check. Disadvantage.
00:45:16
Speaker
Flip, how many dice is he rolling? He's rolling at disadvantage, so he's rolling twice. Okay, cool. Mine's 11 on the... Sorry. Six. Oh, damn! A natural one! No! Six. Six. So he went to... That's a three, is this, obviously? That's a three. One of the first ones, the hand slams down from Claude. He doesn't even seem to break his sweat. Bear in mind, this is an old hunchbacked man with a googly eye. I don't think he's standing inside going, Claude, Claude.
00:45:44
Speaker
Will you up my two gold to three gold? I will give your make your one gold two gold Wait we agreed to go let's go Oh my god eight eleven
00:46:05
Speaker
So the second time your elbow slips and you beat you the second time straight down as the bar erupts and you start chanting, chanting Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude, Claude
00:46:43
Speaker
Maybe that's it, maybe, maybe. Give me another ale! Broden just kind of grabbed you, might be, fills it up a little bit. TASHAEDA! And the whole, whole bar at that point, everyone's there. TASHAEDA! All kind of chanted together and started dying their drinks as well. And they all kind of just teetered back to the tables then, as the evening starts to wear on a little bit. He would have liked this.
00:47:18
Speaker
maybe he's passed on his

talent for challenges to you now oh shit I'm going to bed I'm guessing the place is starting to wind down it's coming to
00:47:36
Speaker
I can't really tell but it's late evening now because some of the dragons are starting to leave. Jelanas does come back with a very old man who seems to still wear disheveled bits of armour that's all black. You don't really recognise Claude, actually Claude you would.
00:47:54
Speaker
Sang with Lance, but he's old, old man, he's wearing bits of it at the Cape and he's retired, but he's very drunk and he walks in, he needed a bard, I am not a bard. And I was like, no, he used to be able to sing, he was sober, but now he's not. So I don't know if he'll be any good, but I've plonked him there. What songs do you know about the wharfs? I don't know any song.
00:48:18
Speaker
I know one song, and it's not a nice one. Do you play the flute? No. Should I play the flute and you sing? Yes, I think that would be fantastic. Nelf here will start singing in dwarvish. Oh shit! That's the funny little thing you're making with your mouth, sir. I don't know what you're saying, what are you saying in the songs? I'm singing a song of... Are you singing it now? Is it what you're doing? Yes sir. How's the song going?
00:48:54
Speaker
So, Elthir will sit there and he will sing a song in dwarvish to the... Dragon will, upon you finishing the song. Do you want to do a performance check? Yeah, go on, do it. Yes!
00:49:14
Speaker
It's a four. This song, you don't actually remember many of the lyrics, but you actually get away with it because you've got to stop. I'm singing, and I'm singing Dwarves. Nobody else knows if I make them. Just make the noises of the shade I would make, and you get away with all kind of claps at the end. That was real beautiful. Thank you. Thank you. Oh. The old man has walked in, and Drance has gone to this point.
00:49:43
Speaker
the way for the night here. Pilate's gone up to bed. Brandon's kind of sitting there and he's kind of, he's had like half of a quarter of an ale of Drago's drinks and he's pissed. He's just sat there. Brandon. Hello. Have you gone to bed yet? No. Okay. The old man is going to stop there. I hear you lost a good friend today. I lost many good friends in the day.
00:50:14
Speaker
Let's all sing a song. To Shader. Okay. To Shader. Do you know the song? There's a song about the blight and it's very sad. I don't think it's gonna be appropriate. Are you giving me a gold? I will. If you don't leave, I might kill you. And he looks very close at you and goes, Honestly, I know this song.
00:50:42
Speaker
It's not a bad song, it's a sad song. Okay. I would like to hear this song. Fine, just give him a chance. Okay, and what was your... Your tater? Steelfall. And what position did he have? He was a prince. Oh fuck. Excuse me. He was a fighter, a barbarian, a warrior.
00:51:09
Speaker
Well, I hope he died doing the thing he loved. He did. I wish I could have died doing the thing I love. You'll die in a minute if you don't hurry up. Okay. And it goes through and he starts singing the song. Can you sing it to us? I've got a little bit. Are you gonna sing it to us? I've written it now! Wait. And so... No, sir. That's pretty. That's pretty.
00:51:42
Speaker
Our weapon is mighty through sorrow and strife Beware, beware, the ember's scar blight The worthy will fall in the battle of night Beware, beware, the ember's scar blight Prince Shader, the hero The lost touched our soul The weak we live on
00:52:12
Speaker
With the bravest, they fall. And he just gets up, takes the gold. He just heads off. Bye. Yeah, yeah, I'll see you tomorrow. Did you just write that? Holy shit. That was amazing. Well done.
00:52:32
Speaker
Mark the DM everyone. That's how you DM. On the fly! Writing songs on the fly. Edgy FC. Edgy FC. That was awesome. Yeah, the embers of the fire are starting to burn down. Broden hasn't really looked after it. He just kind of looks up and goes, uh, lock up. And here are the keys and just throws them at an empty table. I'll take them. I'll take them. He literally thought someone was there. And he just kind of turns over and just stumbles up the stairs to his car. Robin.
00:53:13
Speaker
Talia seems to have taken this very hard. I don't know if it's worth you going to her at some point and giving her some words of wisdom and maybe perhaps that bat cloak thing as she seems to know what to do with it. And it might be a token. Up to you. I'm going to bed. Good idea. Good night. Chaps.
00:53:41
Speaker
Cheers. Cheers. Before going to my- God. Cheers. Cheers. Andrew, are you going to? I turn and go to bed. Okay, before going to my room, I would go knock on Talia's door.
00:53:54
Speaker
Um, it is, it's open, but she doesn't come to answer the door. And as you open the door, you can see her just hand, it's sat on her back and her head in her hands just sobbing quietly to herself. She kind of looks up at you. What? I don't suspect there's anything that we can say that will make you feel better, but, um... You, uh... You did the right thing.
00:54:21
Speaker
in helping us in there with that scroll and if there's one thing that we can take from Shader it's that we have to press on with what we're doing and we need you to be a part of that and as such I think it's only right that as he protected you in life his cloak with his ability for a quick escape
00:54:51
Speaker
Still watches over you and protects you. She reaches out her hand to take it from me and she holds it in her hands, sat on the bed, kind of holds it tightly. Robin, I don't know if I can do this. This is the second time. The first time I thought I could never. But no. I just need some sleep.
00:55:21
Speaker
And I need to process this and think about... I can't even go home, so I don't know what... picky for this. I'll... I'll be better in the morning, I promise. I just need some... I just need some time. Before I get up and leave, I turn and I say to her and I say, every single person that I've ever loved has
00:55:50
Speaker
met and then similar to Shailar. But I will tell to you what my sister once said to me and she said that home is not necessarily a place or a sense of belonging, it's in the relationships that you form with people and
00:56:15
Speaker
the bonds that you make, in that perhaps you will find her home. And I say this to you, you tell you, that her wisdom and her strength and her skill, I see in you. And had you not referred to that lightning bolt in there, the battle could have gone very differently. That thing was dangerous. And when it came to it, you were there to help us. I think you have to go on.
00:56:44
Speaker
because Shayna would want you to and because you have a part to play and because we need you. And so long as you travel with us, I would hope that you could consider that a form of home. She's been processing what you said, slowly nodding and looking, not at you, but up and out of the desk opposite to her cup.
00:57:14
Speaker
And the final thing, I take the pin that I had made for rent out of the bag of holding. The one that's as similar as mine and I go, I made this for my sister, she will never probably get this now. I believe in luck and I believe in symbolic gestures of
00:57:42
Speaker
companionship and I hope this says that I, we value you as a member of this party and I would be honoured if you would take this. It's just a cloak but maybe, it's just a pin rather, but maybe it will help keep Shayla's cloak on your shoulders. She nants and reaches out and takes the pin from you. Thank you Robin. I do appreciate all of you and what you do and what you've done for me
00:58:09
Speaker
I know it was my decision to come with you and I know it was my decision to end up here because it stuck to my father's stupid saying but I'm glad that I've got you a lot because I don't know why I'd be without you. Thank you. My real name is Dustin, it's not Robin.
00:58:35
Speaker
Again, it's another symbolic gesture. A symbolic gesture of companionship. You get some rest for them. I mean what I say, Talia. You are a talented, gifted spellcaster and I think we all have need of you. I appreciate what you said, Robin.
00:59:02
Speaker
Good night. Good for the rest. And I've taken the sight, probably, of this very young girl, probably through a mixture of emotions of what Robin's really lost, processing Taylor, and the family back in the sort of ghost. And he goes to his room. OK. Um, Courtney, I'll put you still up. Do you have anything?
00:59:28
Speaker
Yep, I'm probably just doing all the cleaning around because I figured... Brandon's got a bit. Brandon's just fucked. Elph is sat by the fire with his A up. And we'll probably wait for Claude to go to bed. Okay, so if Claude and Elph can just... Elph can literally sat there. I'm doing their own thing. Yeah, he's literally sat by the fire with his pint of waiting for to go to bed.
00:59:51
Speaker
Okay, I'm gonna... Please don't go in the bed. I'm gonna go to like the corner of the room. I'm an insomniac, I don't know what you're saying. And... Has it gone midnight? Yes. Okay, great. I'm going to use the helmet to commute again. Okay. And I'm just going to ask if Shader is with the master. You... Yeah, say, is Shader with you? I will text you the answer to that.
01:00:22
Speaker
And then... Just so no one else knows. Even if it's good or bad, you know, because it's something that only holds... It's all in infernal as well. So you would have heard. You would have heard maybe the word shader. Yeah. And then, yeah, I would have said an elongated prayer, filling them in and saying, like, I've lost the trail for Eraqas at the moment. Should I just continue to pick up trails of the undead? Just like a general seek for guidance now about what's to come. Yeah. I love that, but with regards to that, you get a
01:00:53
Speaker
and courage from what you said about how you showed to seek out other parts of the undead and kind of get filled with a sense of courage and strength and hope at that expression. Okay, so what's the pub is that spotless?
01:01:12
Speaker
Claude, you run through your final collab through the amulet, the place is looking clean, and it's literally ever been. You pop up to bed. Elthea also returns to his bed as well, and they turn full quiet to the sun. It's set ages ago. As the moon continues to rise over what has been a tumultuous, sad, and potent day in the life of the Adventures in Aerith.
01:01:42
Speaker
And that's where we'll call it for today's episode. Thank you very much everyone for listening. A lot of RP, not a lot of fighting, but we did a lot of fighting last episode and we didn't need to unpay for all that stuff. We've all played heavy. Absolutely, that's very good. And Shader, rest in peace my friend. To Callum Wilson, we're all done for Well Played Character. You never think.
01:02:04
Speaker
Like, how it's going to affect you? No, we've got to give second arc for this podcast, but we've been playing it for a year. July the 20th, I think it was our first ever session last year. And yeah, you think, oh, character death, it'll be all right. It's just something you made up, but it's pretty potent. Maybe we'll do an additional podcast entry on just
01:02:29
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, definitely, so much to think about. Get all our thoughts out too. Indeed, and as always, you can follow the podcast. Always gets to that time when we start wrapping up and my brain starts turning into mush. This isn't the beginning of my mind. Very true. You can follow us at our Twitter handle, which is at fellowship table.

And then if you want to go one step further, you can follow us individually. And I'm going to start off with Callum, even though he's not here, you can still follow his ass. I'm sure he's going to join another D&D podcast any time soon. If you wanted to follow him, he's at TheD20Gamer. If you wanted to follow me, I'm at iRolled1, which I did twice and lost an arm wrestle against Cloud.

Hi everyone, this is a special and really quick shoutout to our main man Danny who plays Claude. He set up his own Etsy page and it's called, funnily enough, Crafts by Claude. He's currently hand making and selling personalised initiative trackers. Each comes with a logo of the character or creature type.
01:04:22
Speaker
you can also have them made for baddies as well, and they can be personalised to include specific character names or indeed nicknames if you want them. But wait, I hear you exclaim, where do I put these awesome trackers made by the world's single nicest person? Luckily they fit perfectly on your DM screen, or in my case, my laptop screen.
01:04:40
Speaker
We've all been there in the heat of battle with six or seven rounds in. It's been five straight hours of playing D&D and your mind's a little bit frazzled and you're losing track. These are perfect just for letting you know who's going when and who's next. Check out his work on Etsy, Search Crafts by Claude.

Who are the hawks? The English dictionary defines hawks as a type of large bird that catches small birds and animals for food, or a person who strongly supports the use of force in political relationships. The hawks are the second one. Well, three of them are, and then there's Enigma, who's a princess that may be insane. Not a princess! Everyone likes different types of stories, and everyone's got their own niche. And I think we definitely hit a certain niche there. Somebody's niche. Yeah, someone's niche.
01:05:26
Speaker
We basically think it's really funny and... I mean, humour is very subjective, but... I disagree! Objectively, we're funny. I've got comedy chops. We're officially funny. Yes! Welcome to Crudely Drawn Swords, an epic Dungeon World actual play podcast.

A story of heroism, sacrifice and the nobility of the human soul let down only by the dice and the characters and the plays. You're going to love it. Yeah, this isn't really promo material.
