Welcome and NFL Draft Excitement

00:00:00
Savage Boston
Alright guys, welcome back to another very exciting episode of the Savage Boston Podcast. We are here, it is April fifteenth
00:00:06
Snooty
Thank you.
00:00:09
Savage Boston
tax day um at 8 30 p.m and uh and yeah we're what we're nine days away from the nfl draft which is uh you know uh thank god that it's finally happening which is great um it's been feel like it's been a very very long time uh so yeah so i'm excited that obviously um we're We're getting close.
00:00:34
Savage Boston
But, you know, today we get some news.
00:00:34
Snooty
you
00:00:36
Savage Boston
i don't know you know, i don't know how much this really is going to change anything, but you get the news this morning that Shadur Sanders has another private workout with the New York Giants. um You know, again, like...
00:00:48
Savage Boston
ah you get mixed reports all over the place. You have some people saying this was always planned. This was always something they were going to do. And you have other people, like I listened to part Schefter's podcast today and he's saying, um, actually, you know, if they're going to do this, and it means they're really doing their due diligence on him. And this is not, you know, necessarily a planned thing, you know? So I just find it really interesting that you could have such a difference between, ah between,
00:01:15
Savage Boston
multiple reports, whether it's Garofalo or Schefter, you know, that's NFL Network versus ESPN and who's got which, which kind of report. So um overall to me, I don't know if this moves the needle in any way, probably not, but you know, it's some good, good content, good, good stuff to be focused on nine days before the draft. Cause I know everybody wants us to be to first shirt or to go three to the giants or two to the Browns. So,
00:01:39
Savage Boston
When you guys jump off, how do you feel about kind of the Shurer Sanders news and and him having another, I guess, another private workout?

Giants' Quarterback Search and Management Critique

00:01:47
Snooty
So, I mean, i think and the Giants are doing what they should be doing, which is turning over every rock to find a quarterback. They don't have one. So, you know, you're going to look at everyone. um They also worked out the kid from Louisville. um They're doing a private workout with Milrow, Jalen Milrow. So, I don't know. I mean, it it seems like they're they're working with everybody. And they're it could be it could be kind of what the Browns did with Brady Quinn.
00:02:15
Snooty
and Joe Thomas where you take someone at three and then you look to move back up if he falls, um, or maybe move back to the end round one for Milrow, who's going to be at the draft, um, or the, it was a show or slow, or whatever his name is from Louisville.
00:02:17
Bret
Thank you.
00:02:30
Snooty
He would be
00:02:31
Savage Boston
think it's Shuck. think his name is Shuck.
00:02:34
Snooty
shock, whatever.
00:02:35
Savage Boston
I don't know.
00:02:35
Snooty
Um, I haven't looked at the quarterbacks this year.
00:02:35
Savage Boston
It could be totally ruined.
00:02:37
Snooty
I don't know. Um, but I know he's getting mentioned everywhere. Um, So, I mean, could be looking at him for round two or late round one, you know, because they picked 34 in the second round.
00:02:47
Bret
you
00:02:49
Snooty
So, you know, it's easy to move up from from there into the the last half round two. ah Excuse me, round one. um I don't, to me, this, the only way they'd be doing something is if the owner were pushing it.
00:03:05
Snooty
um I tweeted something earlier today. I just think whatever they do signifies how how shitty of a franchise they truly are. Because if they're like forcing the quarterback to try to save the job of the GM and the head coach, that never works.
00:03:12
Savage Boston
Yeah.
00:03:19
Snooty
Because you you know it's not automatically just going to give them great job security. And like if it doesn't work, now you're stuck with you having used ah you know a high draft pick on a quarterback that you're still trying to develop with a brand new coaching staff.
00:03:35
Snooty
And yes, I know the Patriots just did that, but it's little different. um If they stay and take harder, who's... you know higher rated across the board by everybody, then, you know, I'll give them some credit that they're not a complete fucking dumpster fire, but we'll see.
00:03:49
Savage Boston
But, I mean, the Patriots, though, you know, they obviously were doing it a little bit different, right? They they get Drake May, but the intention was actually for Gerard Mayo to be there for a while. Like, that was the intention of him to develop with Gerard.
00:04:01
Snooty
Sure.
00:04:03
Savage Boston
So that way, you know, blah, blah, blah. Like, they grow together. It just happens that Gerard actually ah was a terrible coach and clearly had to go. So it just, you know, now we have Ravel, right?
00:04:12
Bret
Thank
00:04:13
Savage Boston
but But, yeah, that was something where In this circumstance, I don't know why they didn't fire Dayball and Schoen or whatever. i don't I don't know why they let them stay in with this third overall draft pick um with a quarterback on the line just so what? They can come out and go you know six and eleven and and get fired?
00:04:38
Savage Boston
like I don't get what's the point of not doing a rebuild if you're the Giants?
00:04:42
Snooty
You fire them. It's better to fire a year early than a year late.
00:04:45
Bret
So,
00:04:46
Savage Boston
Yeah, i don't get it.
00:04:46
Snooty
You know what
00:04:47
Savage Boston
i don't get it.
00:04:47
Snooty
If you had a brand new coaching staff, brand new front office in here, and, that you know, unless the GM's not as on ah on as hot of a seat as we think he is, maybe Dayball is, maybe they're both really secure. I don't know.
00:05:03
Snooty
Right? Like, I don't know. I mean, that's the only explanation is that, no, they're going to be around for a little bit longer. That's the only explanation for it.
00:05:09
Bret
Yeah, you say that, but you got to look at the GM's moves, right? And I think the two most glaring moves that he did ah is the extension on Daniel Jones, which was idiotic on its face and should have made a move.
00:05:24
Savage Boston
Yeah.
00:05:26
Bret
And then obviously moving on from Saquon, which I understand the argument, right? It would have been a high cost player to to have to extend. And you're looking at saying, do we really want to build a around a running back?
00:05:38
Bret
but you know Clearly looking at what he did with Philadelphia and and putting himself in a situation where he had a a good offensive scheme scheme with a good offensive line, you can see how that guy can you know really help dominate games. So ah those are arguably their two biggest blunders, I would say, that are most notably out there on what's impacting their franchise. Obviously, there's probably more and more question marks that we have.
00:06:03
Bret
I don't follow the Giants' you know, draft and free agency move that much to really know to weigh in there. But I would say those would be the question marks. And to me, I look at it and say, it's just There's just a lot of smoke. And I get as you get closer to the draft, this is when the smoke really starts to rise.
00:06:21
Bret
You know, you you get these private workouts, but then you get the comments from him like a couple weeks ago where he's like, we're not going to take a quarterback at number three. Like it's all it's all smokescreen at this point ah by intention.
00:06:33
Bret
i just, to me, I look at it and say there's a level like he doesn't have the credibility for me to like confidently say no, he wouldn't do he wouldn't go

Draft Strategies and Running Back Investments

00:06:45
Bret
forward and pick with Sanders.
00:06:45
Bret
because you know Snooty, I agree with you. I think franchise in their position would make a recalculated move by not doing that and getting someone else.
00:06:58
Bret
But the reality is is teams get stupid for quarterbacks around the draft.
00:07:00
Savage Boston
just
00:07:02
Bret
It happens every year. And I wouldn't put it past the Giants to be stupid.
00:07:07
Savage Boston
this It doesn't make any sense at all. The position, that I mean, not that like this is a Giants podcast, but like it just makes no fucking sense the position they put the coach in and the GM in where they don't have a quarterback.
00:07:20
Savage Boston
They have a couple, like, they have a journeyman quarterback and they have a washed quarterback in Russell Wilson, right? They don't have a future at that position. And so you put them in the draft and you're like, hey, you're going to either take quarterback at like one or your first or second overall pick.
00:07:34
Bret
Thank you.
00:07:34
Savage Boston
Versus like these the GM and coach are like, well, I need to win right now or else I'm going to get fired. So you have an inherent conflict where I think ownership could step. I mean, genuinely speaking, I'll give it like a 20% chance they take Shadar right now.
00:07:50
Savage Boston
And that 20% would be if ownership comes in and says, we're taking this player. You know i mean? like That's like the one circumstance I could see where the Giants are overstepping ownership.
00:08:00
Savage Boston
um Because otherwise... it makes no sense of position they've put themselves in. you don't, they're not aligned and it makes, it's ridiculous. So don't know.
00:08:12
Snooty
Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
00:08:12
Savage Boston
I do. It's silly.
00:08:13
Snooty
I also will defend the letting Barkley walk thing. I don't think they should have drafted him in the first place because he was never going to be good when they're good, right?
00:08:20
Savage Boston
They were in the position to do it.
00:08:22
Snooty
So, like, he wasn't going to do what he did in Philly on the in in New York.
00:08:25
Bret
Thank you.
00:08:27
Snooty
was just never going to happen. So, fine. Like, I'm okay letting him walk. I mean...
00:08:32
Savage Boston
I agree with big Jim Murray about ah about running backs in some way in the state of the league. Like having an expensive, really high-priced, excellent running back is like icing on the cake, right?
00:08:44
Savage Boston
Like just like what the Eagles just did. Like you had a superb roster and they're like, let's kick it over the top, bring in Saquon, boom.
00:08:48
Snooty
Mm-hmm.
00:08:51
Savage Boston
But like the Giants paying Saquon, I don't think makes a single difference towards their wins or loss record. You know, they're still a bad team last year.
00:08:58
Bret
well Well, I mean, the the same rules apply with building on offense. Starts with a quarterback, then it goes to your offensive line, and it is a pass-happy league, so next it's a wide receiver.
00:09:13
Savage Boston
Yeah.
00:09:13
Bret
After that, it's, yeah, what does your running back look like? What is your tight end look like? Luxury. But at the you know the way the ru rosters are built, and this hasn't changed for a long time now,
00:09:26
Bret
It is quarterback, offensive line, and the only change that's happened is it went from running back, run-heavy offenses to pass-happy offenses, but it's been pass-happy for a while.
00:09:38
Bret
And running backs are kind of a di a dozen.
00:09:42
Savage Boston
yeah
00:09:42
Snooty
I think
00:09:42
Savage Boston
and i mean now And also now we can get, you know, in this draft, they're trying to look towards the Patriots want to get a running back, you know, round three or four. You know, I'm more than happy that maybe even round five. There's some great running backs, some great pass catching running backs that are all going to be, you know, faster than Mondray.
00:09:59
Savage Boston
Are they going to be a workhorse like him? Probably not. But also, you know, he fumbled seven times last year. So. um i'm happy I'm happy with selecting running back in this draft. um And I think there's it's a super deep, good running back class. So I'm into it.
00:10:14
Savage Boston
Now, let me just... This isn't even a really a pivot, but to to shift to like Abdul Carter. So, you know, if... If the Giants take Shadar, that by default, as of right now, because Travis Hunter is is kind of glued to the Browns at the moment, again, subject to change, right?
00:10:25
Bret
Bye.
00:10:31
Savage Boston
We have nine days. um But if Abdul Carter falls to four and... You know, there's been a couple funny reports that I hadn't heard a lot about character issues, quote unquote.
00:10:42
Savage Boston
And I'm hearing a couple things from different places today, whether that's even just Felger and Maz spitting out things they hear. Phil Perry mentioning that or even our guy Pat's pro, right? Mentioning that there's some character concerns. I didn't know anything about that, but um I think his talent level is so high and so good that if he falls to four, you literally can't pass on him, in my opinion. So, don't know. How do you guys feel about Abdul Carter?
00:11:12
Snooty
I think just given that it's like a cluster of like reports coming out about character concerns for the first time in like, I don't know, the three years since he's three years he's been at Penn state.
00:11:21
Bret
Thank you.
00:11:21
Savage Boston
Coming from somewhere.
00:11:23
Snooty
Right. Like I think given it's like a cluster right now, that seems like a, like, it just seems like bullshit.
00:11:24
Savage Boston
Yeah.
00:11:31
Snooty
I'm not shitting on the people reporting, you know, pass pro and everything. I'm sure what they're hearing is valid, but it's like for a reason. You what mean?
00:11:39
Savage Boston
yeah
00:11:39
Snooty
Like someone's putting that out there for a reason. Maybe it's to try to get them to fall. Maybe it's to, you know, whatever, but it just seems like too much bullshit all at the same time.
00:11:51
Bret
Yeah, again,
00:11:51
Savage Boston
it was really there's a dump of information there no far right
00:11:54
Bret
i did as I was just saying, it's smokescreen season. Like, this is just, I think, another example of a smokescreen. Now, I mean, I had heard, um you know, that he had some character concerns.
00:12:07
Bret
And I believe he had, like, an assault charge on him that was pretty minor, but, like, something that was a while back. So, like, I know there there were question marks there, but it honestly...
00:12:20
Bret
it like it's not as bad as you've you've had from players in the past. So I don't think it's to me, I equate it to a smokescreen move. It's being driven by someone.
00:12:32
Bret
To what end, I don't know. It's hard to really understand like what that what these teams are angling for and how they angle. um But I think it's more of a smokescreen than not.
00:12:44
Bret
I still think he's the most talented player in the draft, and it would be amazing if he fell to four. I think we'd all agree on that. so And we've been talking about it for months now, so that would be epically awesome.
00:12:59
Bret
I just don't foresee it happening. I still think he's going to go early in the draft. And, um yeah, I think, you know, if anyone drops, I think it could be Hunter, but I don't know.
00:13:11
Savage Boston
Yeah. Yeah. No, i feel you. don't have to spend too much time on Abdul Carter just because, again, we've been talking to the draft ad nauseum for a while.

Bill Belichick's Legacy and Career Speculation

00:13:22
Savage Boston
But, you know, something I wanted to touch on as well was kind of a, I guess, a big story in a time where football's been so quiet is the Bill Belichick stuff where, you know, people really, it's like, it's a funny point where if you mentioned Bill, some people really don't want you to talk bad about Bill Belichick.
00:13:41
Savage Boston
I mean, it's it's really funny. Like the reactions online are are severe, even when he's being an obvious hypocrite. Um, ah someone who, you know, again, for years preached, uh, no distraction, you know, and it's crazy. The spin zone for people like he's evolving.
00:13:59
Savage Boston
He's this, he's that. Like, basically it is a story. If you have a guy that's preached one way, his whole coaching career, and now, uh, bringing this tour to force distraction of this, of his, his young girlfriend,
00:14:12
Savage Boston
who apparently reportedly, and even I heard this yesterday, truly, i heard this yesterday before a report came out today from The Athletic, that she's signing emails off the COO of like Belichick, whatever it was, Belichick,
00:14:27
Bret
productions or something like that?
00:14:28
Savage Boston
Yeah. Like, which isn't even, I don't think a real business. Like she's basically like gone into his life and is like, and he seems to be fine with it. But again, I've heard, I've heard lots of things. I've heard she's not ah the particularly, a particular, particularly pleasant person to deal with behind the scenes. And she's kind of taking over his life.
00:14:48
Savage Boston
So yeah, I feel like it is a real talking point. So I don't know. Did you guys want to weigh in on the Belichick stuff?
00:14:57
Bret
Absolutely. i It's funny. I've been thinking about... he you know he's just had that book out... Came out about Art of Winning. I don't think it's been released yet. But I know like he released it to a few copies. And Shaughnessy got one. So like he released some reporting on it.
00:15:14
Bret
Which doesn't sound like there's a whole lot of juice there. But ah one of the things that I look at is... The the book is The Art of Winning. But if you look at Belichick over the last... like five plus years, he's literally writing the book of like how to absolutely tarnish a legacy.
00:15:33
Bret
Like think about all the moves he has done over the last five or six years and then to cap it with what he's doing now. Like to me, I look at it as a guy that literally just doesn't give a fuck.
00:15:47
Bret
He has relegated himself to the idea that I am never going to coach in the NFL again. I did not want to be in North Carolina. If they're going to pay me millions of dollars to come here, I'm going to do whatever the fuck I want, and I don't care. And i it also, I think, spits in the face of like...
00:16:05
Bret
I don't care about like my perception, my persona. I don't care what I said in the past about what it is. 100% hypocritical, but it's like totally tarnishing his image.
00:16:16
Bret
And the reality is, is the guy hasn't cared about his perception for decades, but he does care about his legacy and he is ruining his legacy, like really tarnishing it.
00:16:27
Savage Boston
I mean, she, she, this, this, this girl, this woman, she's basically his de facto agent. And apparently she's the one that sunk hard knocks coming to UNC.
00:16:42
Savage Boston
She sunk that deal somehow to go like dealing with her. I don't know how, I don't have the details on that, but she's making deals with him, for him, and is taking over his kind of, she's one of the huge reasons that he went to UNC.
00:16:57
Savage Boston
So, you know, and, and didn't get a job in the league. So I don't know. It's, ah it, it feels like an important talking point. Cause we were such a relationship with this region with Bill Belichick, but I think people are just so touchy feely. Cause they just, it's like, you can't, you can't say anything bad about Bill.
00:17:13
Savage Boston
It doesn't matter how the last few years turned out. It doesn't matter how much of a hypocrite he's being. doesn't matter. He telling people stay off a snap face. And now he's doing like pictures of acro yoga on the beach. Do you know I mean? Like,
00:17:26
Savage Boston
do as I say, not as I do. Like he gave players shit for so long for being on social media or being in the public eye, you know? So I feel like it is kind of a, it's a big story.
00:17:37
Savage Boston
So
00:17:38
Snooty
Yeah, I mean, look, it's college football. College football is a whole different world.
00:17:44
Bret
Thank you.
00:17:44
Snooty
So in terms of like the weird, crazy, hypocritical, zany shit that happens in college football, this doesn't even sniff the top at top of the market for shit that's happened.
00:17:55
Snooty
ah I mean, Bobby Petrino... was like banging a cheerleader and like crashed motorcycle, showed up to a press conference with a neck brace on with his face all fucked up, like left to go.
00:18:07
Savage Boston
Yeah.
00:18:09
Snooty
That's after he left the Falcons to go back to like Arkansas and then somehow like ended up back at Arkansas later on. Like, weird shit happens. Like who's Hugh freeze coached a ah game from like the fucking hospital bed at like the fucking top of the thing. Like we, after he got booted out of Ole Miss, like shit happens.
00:18:27
Snooty
Like it's a crazy fucking industry, which is part of why it's so awesome is because it's just weird, insane shit happens all the time.
00:18:32
Bret
ah
00:18:35
Snooty
Like it's, it's, it's crazy.
00:18:35
Savage Boston
yeah
00:18:37
Snooty
So is it hypocritical? Sure.
00:18:39
Bret
What?
00:18:39
Snooty
But like, don't know. I love college football. I followed college football for a long time. Like, this isn't even close to like the zaniest thing that's happened.
00:18:46
Savage Boston
It's only, yeah, but it's relevant because it was our guy.
00:18:46
Bret
well
00:18:49
Snooty
Sure.
00:18:51
Savage Boston
You know, he was our guy. He's our coach.
00:18:52
Snooty
Sure.
00:18:52
Savage Boston
Like we have that relationship with him.
00:18:54
Snooty
I just think you're getting a lot of like pro sports fans and media that are looking at culture. They're like, what is this? And you're like, that's it's fucking college, man. That's what it happens. Like weird shit happens.
00:19:05
Snooty
And sure. It's hypocritical. not suggesting it's not, I'm just like, i don't know. If you follow you're a little jaded to some of like the, to exactly how crazy some of the shit like this is.
00:19:10
Bret
that
00:19:15
Bret
Yeah, I just, I think ultimately though, again, i circle back to his legacy and like, it is, it is a clear step down to go to North Carolina and like ah just his overall approach leads me to believe it's going to be a shit show.
00:19:34
Bret
Like,
00:19:35
Snooty
wins.
00:19:36
Bret
but Well, yeah, that's the obvious, but I'm making the expectation that it's going to be a shit show because like he he didn't really coach that well and build a great roster down the stretch in the New England, which is why he's no longer the coach New England Patriots.
00:19:53
Bret
And he goes down to North Carolina. It's not like he's inheriting like a you know bursting out the seams program that's going to have all of this amazing talent.
00:20:04
Bret
So like, he's, he's got to, he's got to try and build it up.
00:20:05
Savage Boston
Must see
00:20:08
Bret
Yeah. It's going be must see TV. I just, if if you want me to put a ah line on it, I don't think they're going to be bigger than 500, you know? So
00:20:16
Savage Boston
It could be very much very mediocre, but...
00:20:19
Bret
yeah. And then it's like, and in college programs, aren't like turnaround tomorrow.
00:20:21
Snooty
Depends.
00:20:24
Bret
Like, I don't know. i don't know what their NIL situation is and what they're going to do with that.
00:20:25
Snooty
ah Nope. Nope. Nope. Now they are. Now they are.
00:20:29
Bret
But,
00:20:30
Snooty
Trans reporter and NIL. You can, you can turn over a roster pretty fucking quickly. Now it's not the old days.
00:20:34
Savage Boston
He's added some talent too. Like he's added players.
00:20:36
Snooty
You, yeah, you can turn it over pretty quick.
00:20:36
Savage Boston
Like it's not, I just don't think, I don't know.
00:20:39
Bret
Yeah.
00:20:41
Savage Boston
i don't know, man. It's going to be really fascinating. I just can't get over um some of the stuff I'm hearing about. Again, like the the guy talked to you yesterday saying like how, how this, this girl's taking over his life and how brutal a person she is to to deal with.
00:20:58
Savage Boston
And then I've heard even the family members are having trouble dealing with her. So, you know, there's stuff that's not like public, public until someone wants to put it. Like Chad Graff had that piece.
00:21:09
Savage Boston
I don't know if Graff wrote that, but Graff shared it today in The Athletic about about her and Bill. Like the stuff is eking out and coming out about how this is going for them.
00:21:18
Bret
Thank you.
00:21:18
Savage Boston
um But like on the field stuff, man, it's going to be super fascinating.

Red Sox's Struggles and Path Forward

00:21:24
Savage Boston
I don't know. we don't know how that's going to go. I'm certainly going to watch and I know I'm going to post about it. And then people are probably going to get mad.
00:21:32
Savage Boston
You know, nobody, going to be like, oh, look, UNC lost. And everyone's going to be like, oh, you're just, but but like, it's crazy, dude, how butt hurt people. Like, this is like one of those main topics.
00:21:42
Savage Boston
You found something that's like the third rail topic, and it's somehow Bill Belichick more than anything.
00:21:47
Bret
you know Well, I think we could all agree, as very passive observers who aren't really too intimately involved with what's going on here, that this chick is certifiably insane. right I think that's pretty... I mean, just the age gap alone leads you to that inclination, but then you compound it with like just every snippet of example that comes out, and you're like, what the fuck is going on with this?
00:22:13
Bret
it's not It's not normal.
00:22:13
Savage Boston
Something weird is happening.
00:22:15
Bret
It's not normal. So...
00:22:17
Savage Boston
It's not.
00:22:17
Bret
No.
00:22:18
Savage Boston
Yeah.
00:22:18
Bret
So, yeah, I think it's i think it's a bad look.
00:22:18
Snooty
Yeah.
00:22:21
Bret
I think he just clearly doesn't care, and I don't anticipate him doing well at North Carolina, and I think he's really damaging his legacy, which is really shitty, but this is a guy that really doesn't like to take a lot of advice from other people, and he's just going to have to lay in the bed that he makes.
00:22:41
Savage Boston
Yeah, it's going to be something. um But yeah, so I guess for kind of the last last segment, if you if you would, because I think next week we're going to really deep dive again for the last time this year, ah the NFL draft. where We're going to have Scout d come on and we're going to do draft next week.
00:23:00
Savage Boston
um But i think today, you know, we should touch on the Red Sox. Um, because, you know, that's a team where I think, you know, we talk about it. Like everyone thought and really anticipated them coming out to a hot start and really being in ah really solid team. And they're going to take us into the spring and everyone's going to be all happy.
00:23:21
Savage Boston
And it's crazy to watch the team. Like, you know, they're winning right now, but like really they're sputtering, man. Like they can't hit. And and it's it's been weird, like stuff where I don't know that deeply with baseball, like what we're coaching these players, like the hitting coaches doing, but they lead the league and in strikeouts again.
00:23:29
Snooty
Thank you.
00:23:32
Bret
Thank you.
00:23:40
Savage Boston
And it's just this like fly ball stuff where they either strike out or hit homers. That's still the approach we're using. So um how do you guys feel like the Red Sox look at this at this point?
00:23:51
Snooty
I mean, i don't it's obviously their disappointment at this point, right? And they were listening to radio and the the baseball report or whatever, and you know Tony Mazz, who, if he's just talking about baseball, I actually kind of like him.
00:24:06
Snooty
um
00:24:07
Savage Boston
Yeah.
00:24:08
Snooty
He was saying, it's not so much the record, it's how they're playing. Right? Like, it's like, they have the most errors in the majors, right?
00:24:13
Bret
Thank you.
00:24:14
Savage Boston
Errors.
00:24:16
Snooty
Like, they're just like, it's just dog shit baseball. It's just bad. it's It's one thing to like, okay, it's April, you know, you're losing a few games, but you know you're playing well, you're just, you know, you're trying to get up to speed, whatever. It's like, no.
00:24:29
Snooty
And the fact that they keep complaining about the weather and shit, or at least keep mentioning the weather, it's almost like, dude, just fucking drop it.
00:24:33
Savage Boston
Yeah.
00:24:36
Snooty
Like, it's fucking April. Like, we get it. It's cold in certain points. It's cold at night. I get it. But like, they're playing in it to the other team. Right. Like, so just shut the fuck up and just play.
00:24:47
Snooty
Like, just forget about it. Stop. You're like building in excuses. Like as you start playing, it's just the only one crochet has been amazing, right. Better than expected.
00:24:56
Savage Boston
He's very good.
00:24:56
Snooty
Um, but you know, we'll see how he calls up for the, the whole season. Right. Like that's the, cause he's never pitched like a full starter, you know, ACE workload.
00:25:06
Snooty
So we'll see.
00:25:07
Savage Boston
He's nasty though.
00:25:08
Snooty
Oh, he's, he's disgusting, but you know, we'll see how he holds up and that's not a criticism.
00:25:08
Savage Boston
ah He is nasty.
00:25:12
Snooty
That's like a, just genuine inquiry. um You know, I mean, Devers has turned around a little bit, um certainly from where he started. Kostas sucks.
00:25:25
Snooty
Bregman's been okay. You know, Abreu's starting to cool off a little bit. um You know, we'll see. But I don't know. I mean, they're just a huge disappointment to this point, even with solid contributions from Campbell and Crochet and stuff.
00:25:37
Savage Boston
I just don't think they're going to be this bad for this long.
00:25:38
Bret
Thank you.
00:25:40
Savage Boston
You know what I mean? like Jaron Duran, like Duran and Casas, like, are they really, is Casas just not going to hit now? Like he, like he's ah I forget what his OPS career is like over 800.
00:25:51
Savage Boston
He's young and he's a guy that we thought was going to be maybe a 30, a hundred guy and he's just not hitting. So it's again, like, is he just going to suck now? Like, what are, like, what are we doing?
00:26:02
Savage Boston
Because I would be shocked if that all in his career just went up like Bobby Dahlbeck. And that's what people are now trying to comp him as, like ah you know a little bit better Bobby Dahlbeck, which is not what we thought he would be.
00:26:14
Savage Boston
So I find that surprising. I mean, I don't know. I've been just really looking forward to the young kids coming up.
00:26:19
Snooty
pretty yeah
00:26:20
Savage Boston
I love Christian Campbell. think he's awesome. um And I want to find a way to get you know Roman Anthony up.
00:26:25
Snooty
roman
00:26:27
Savage Boston
Like, how do you, where do you fit them? Where do you, cause Abreu's playing too well. Like, where do you put Roman Anthony? How do you get Meyer up?
00:26:33
Bret
Mm-hmm.
00:26:34
Savage Boston
And you have to wait for story to get hurt. His inevitable injury at some point, then you call Meyer up. So I like the young kids a lot and I want them, I want them to come up. I feel like that's the real excitement in in the season is like getting the young guys up and can you build a championship team?
00:26:50
Savage Boston
You know?
00:26:51
Bret
Well, and that I was just going to say, you know that's that's why there's optimism around this team is that the young guys are coming of age, that we all had anticipation for being impactful guys on the major league roster that's going to help us win games.
00:26:51
Snooty
Yeah.
00:27:09
Bret
So you know I anticipate us that we will see them up, but i mean I'll just say... Regarding the season start, I mean, clearly we got to change our approach with spring season. ah Yeah, spring training.
00:27:23
Bret
Because, like, this is just dog shit. And then, like, what we're seeing out of the roster, they're just not prepared. And, yeah, the excuse making is problematic. And, i like...
00:27:38
Bret
ah You hear the weather, and I know Cora's a ah players manager, right, and he protects his guys, but at some point he's just got to call this shit out and basically say, like, we just got to do better. Like, this is on the players, and the players got to do better, and we just got to be a better...
00:27:52
Bret
you know, production because they are really struggling. And don't know. I put the pressure back on Cora saying, like, Cora, like, you need to manage this more effectively and get these guys in a better position. Like, stop protecting them.
00:28:04
Bret
Start shaking up the lineup more and and get some things moving here because it's a problem. And I know we talked about Devers, like, a couple of calls ago. But, like, You know, you got other ah issues on the roster too that you got to address where these guys like, you know, pitchers just look completely off batters, just, you know, leading the league and strikeouts and we're just swinging for the fences.
00:28:26
Bret
It's like, what the fuck are we doing? Like, this is just not good baseball.
00:28:28
Savage Boston
but I think think the bats are going to come around pretty significantly. Like, they're they are they're too good. Like, ah honestly, they they really have a lot of talent. And I think they're too good for Duran and Casas just to, like, be non-existent.
00:28:41
Savage Boston
Like, i don't I just don't believe that. Like, Duran was so good last year. I just forget refuse to believe he just can't play now. You know, same with Casas. Like, and if Casas just truly can't play, again, just teach Roman Anthony how to play first base and and send him up.
00:28:50
Bret
you
00:28:55
Savage Boston
But I honestly just don't see I don't see those guys not hitting.
00:28:55
Snooty
Yeah.
00:28:59
Savage Boston
I think the pitching is still a problem though. Like imagine they were going to if they didn't trade for Crochet, this would be a it would be a fucking disaster. Like a disaster. Like Bueller has been inconsistent.
00:29:10
Savage Boston
Like and Houck is just getting ah smoked. I mean he he is awful right now. So and then it's like, you know, a bunch of other dudes. So you know what I mean it's It's like I think the pitching is a problem. You know, if you want to have a really good team, you need at least ah at least a couple mainline starters. And and this team has one really good starter right now.
00:29:34
Savage Boston
And, you know, so we'll see where they go from there.

Celtics Playoff Prospects and Episode Wrap-Up

00:29:37
Savage Boston
but
00:29:37
Snooty
Well, Bayo should be back relatively soon, too.
00:29:39
Bret
yeah
00:29:40
Snooty
So, sure.
00:29:40
Savage Boston
And he needs to perform too. Like, I don't Bale, like what if he comes in and has a five ERA?
00:29:45
Snooty
Right? No. I mean, there it's it's... There's more question marks than I guess we were not led to believe, but kind of assumed going into this season. Right? More than we were... Everybody kind of glossed over so a lot of the question marks on the roster just because of, oh, we got Bregman, and, you know, who has two homers tonight.
00:30:04
Snooty
um You know, and and we kind of were gay, Bregman, and okay, Devers, and Durant, you know, but like, Campbell, and, you know, the young guys are there, but like...
00:30:10
Bret
Thank you.
00:30:15
Snooty
There's still a lot of question marks.
00:30:17
Savage Boston
yeah
00:30:17
Snooty
And that's like we haven't even gotten to the bullpen either.
00:30:20
Savage Boston
Yeah, it's it's been there's a lot. I mean, the Red Sox, it's a it's a slog, right? Like it's a really long season. We don't touch on them too often in here, again, because it's such a long season. It's mostly a Patriots podcast.
00:30:30
Snooty
you know,
00:30:31
Savage Boston
but um But it's I tune in. I like to watch them. I pay attention. We barely mentioned the Celtics who we don't have to full pivot Celtics right now because we're all in the pod soon.
00:30:37
Snooty
we don't have
00:30:41
Savage Boston
But Celtics are about to get into the playoffs. And we're we're back. You know, here's like this is the real season for the Celtics coming up. You know what mean? Like, like this whole regular season was nothing like here, here, now we can actually start with the Celtics season, um you know, starts in April.
00:30:51
Snooty
Yeah.
00:30:56
Savage Boston
So I am going to end it here though, just to keep it, or unless you want to, do you want to give one more point, Brett?
00:30:56
Snooty
So...
00:30:57
Bret
Well,
00:31:01
Bret
I was just going to say, well, they've earned that because they're champions. And, you know, regular season really doesn't matter too much in the NBA.
00:31:05
Savage Boston
Yep.
00:31:08
Bret
There's probably a handful or more games that really matter the entire year. Other than that, it's pretty much a mute point. And as of now, it looks like Orlando is ahead of Atlanta.
00:31:19
Bret
So that could be our opponent come Sunday. So we'll see.
00:31:22
Savage Boston
And there's just way too many fucking teams to make the playoffs. this absolutely bothers me. And I just despise how they do it. Anyway, I'll end on that. All right, guys, tune in next time. I think next week we're going to have Scout d and just full Patriots draft dissection two days before it. So we'll tune in then.
00:31:38
Savage Boston
Peace.
00:31:38
Bret
Peace.
00:31:39
Snooty
yep
