Join Mayari, a 30-something woman in a magical world, as she reconnects with her home in the October Region after a decade away. In this biweekly improvised podcast, she’ll talk to old friends and family — and maybe even some frenemies — to catch up on the past few years. Listen as she talks about her travels, learns what’s changed in October, and rekindles her past relationships over some magical coffee and cozy treats.

Nostalgic Reflections

I can't believe I'm back here. It's so weird to see this place again after so long. I used to walk down the street and shop at all of these places with my friends. Oh gosh, my friends. I wonder what they're up to. I wonder if they still live here.

Contemplating Reconnection

Maybe I shouldn't have disappeared on them all those years ago. I should probably reach out to them. I don't really want to, though. Can't they just know I'm here? It's too early for this. I should get some coffee first. That always seems to do the trick. Coffee first? Please load my way back into my friends' lives later. What do you think, Ichibod?

Cafe Impressions

Speaker
Oh, this place is new. The moon being tea rooms. I wonder if their coffee's any good. I'm just going to walk in and have a quick peek.

Oh wow. Oh my gosh. God, this is beautiful. The walls are exposed brick and there's floor to ceiling arched iron windows, which I probably should have noticed from the outside. But I haven't really been the most observant person so that makes sense. There's booths along the walls.

The floors are a gorgeous herringbone and all of the tables that take up the space are marbled and there's comfy faux leather dining chairs surrounding them. I think maybe I'll take a seat and have a look at their menu. Ugh, cakes, cookies, pastries, oh! There's the savory section. Sausage rolls? Okay, bod. I'm gonna make a quick order and then we're gonna get out of here.

Hi, can I please have a sausage roll and a mocha? Oh, thank you. Oh, you'll bring it over to me? Well, perfect. Thanks.

Crafting the Message

00:02:17
Speaker
I guess while I'm waiting, I can probably start reaching out. OK, how about this? How does this sound?
00:02:26
Speaker
Dear you. Dear person. Oh gosh. Dear friend. I mean, I think that's easy enough without me having to remember everyone's names, right? And if they don't remember me, then maybe it's okay that I don't remember theirs. Okay. Anyway, let me get back to writing. Hey, it's me.

I'm sitting here in the moonbeam tea rooms waiting for my mocha and sausage roll and thought I'd send you a message. Is it like, huh? Wow. Look at me. Or is it like, I don't know what to say. So I'm writing this because it's definitely that, but I hope it doesn't look that way. I'd love to meet up and learn what you've been up to. Let me know when you're free. I'd love to see you again.

Speaker
Mayari. Oh, that was quicker than I thought. Oh, thank you so much. No, no, that's all. Thank you. Oh, my gosh.

Finalizing Plans

Speaker
OK, Bob, just a second need to add something to this letter. I'd love to see you again. Meet me at the moonbeam tea rooms. Mayari. OK, there it is. Let me just.

Send this out? Should I just post it? It's probably more personal to send this out through the mail, right? Oh gosh, I don't know. We'll figure it out later. Well, I can't wait to see what the October region has in store for me. Hopefully people respond. We'll see, bud.
