Ipswich's Historic Premier League Win

00:00:09
Richard
Hello everyone and welcome to the Daily Ipswich. You can start the car, the trainers left the station, the monkey is well and truly off our back. Ipswich stand up while they're game of football in the Premier League for the first time this season.
00:00:22
Richard
In fact, it's the first time since April 2002 and we have the whole gang here to celebrate. Hello gentlemen, James, Rob

Reflecting on the Win's Significance

00:00:32
Richard
and Tom.
00:00:32
Richard
How are we all? Tom, let's start with you.
00:00:33
James
ah
00:00:34
Richard
You've got a big grip. Oh James, start with you. Everyone wants to talk.
00:00:37
James
Sorry Tom, sorry just yeah.
00:00:40
Tom Crack
It's okay.
00:00:40
James
um for everybody it's Always a pleasure, but today it's even more so so getting come on.
00:00:47
Tom Crack
Yeah, deck of what James said. It's amazing all four of us are coincidentally here for recapping the biggest result of the season, but here we are. Thank you to Mr. Sharon, his lovely pink kit. It seems to be the trick, didn't it?
00:00:57
Richard
It really did.
00:00:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, that's good. enough We did plan to all be here. That was all sort of pre-planned. That's just a happy coincidence that we, it was time for our first win and so a little bit of history for me because first time since I've been alive that we've won in the Premier League because I was born three months after the last win.
00:01:13
Richard
Oh, very nice. rob very nice how does How does that feel?
00:01:17
Tom Crack
Never forget your first.
00:01:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, it's a lovely feeling.
00:01:21
Richard
Yeah.
00:01:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Never thought I'd be imagining never thought there i imagineginingning that sort five, 10 years ago.
00:01:22
Tom Crack
More to come.
00:01:23
Richard
but actuallysh
00:01:29
Richard
That's actually four games, I think, in a row we've beaten Spurs in the Premier League, so we're on a bit of a role against Tottenham Hotspur. Can we play you every week? So, yeah, with the Blues, we won for the first time 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
00:01:38
James
one
00:01:44
Richard
First part of this, we're going to get this emotional monkey off our back. We've had weeks of trying to pick the bones out of good performances, some decent results, but we just haven't been able to get that win.
00:01:55
Richard
And finally, we have... because we were saying today like on the on the chat like you know who's up for talking tonight so we did we didn't plan this after the fact there was rumblings that we were all going to get together for this evening anyway and obviously it's a great occasion that we can but did anyone see this result coming beforehand spurs are classically spursy and they and they proved it's a james you're shaking your head this is a complete shot to you
00:02:20
James
Well, not maybe not a complete shock, but because I did speak about when we did the crossover with Christina, who was great, by the way, as well. and But, you know, we've won, so I have that one.
00:02:31
James
but
00:02:34
James
But no, she was great. But I did say, obviously, we all know what spares are. We we all know what what can happen with spares. that You don't know which one's going to turn up. So we're obviously hoping that today's spares would turn up. But that's not to say that I thought we'd get a result. I would i would have been happy to snatch a point at Tottenham Stadium at their place. And we've come our way to three points. So yeah, just very, very happy about it all.
00:03:00
Richard
Tom, how how are you feeling? we We rocked up in the pink today. um It's a bold old kit, that but you've you've got a you've got ah one of those, haven't you?
00:03:09
Tom Crack
I have somewhere, excuse me, somewhere in a draw, I should have worn it to be honest.
00:03:12
James
Should have been on.
00:03:12
Richard
You should.
00:03:12
Tom Crack
But yeah, no, I think it's in the wash unfortunately, I had it for five or five on Monday. Anyway, less about that. Yeah, I mean, as James said, I would have been happy with a draw, you know, we were searching for that win ahead of today's game, but it was very much like, you know,
00:03:26
Tom Crack
really not a place where we can conceivably maybe get a win.
00:03:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:03:29
Tom Crack
And there's no shame in that. so for Some people's spurs are a very big side. And you know, so to some people, yeah, that's why that's why I added that caveat there.
00:03:34
Richard
to some people.
00:03:38
Tom Crack
But you know, Coming away the with the three points, it's just massive. And I would have been very happy with the draw. When it was 2-0, I would still be happy with the draw, considering how I'll previous trip to London out of

Emotional Reactions and Pivotal Moments

00:03:47
Tom Crack
Brentford. But they managed to hold on and get the win. I was so nervous those last 20. Jesus. But ah so chuffed. Rob, what what about you, mate? Like, it's the first Premier League win in your life.
00:03:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's just unbelievable, really. Like I say, I think sort of ah growing up on mid-table mediocrity in the championship. And then it finally got out of that and it was the wrong direction going down below and then struggled there for a few couple of years and everything. It just felt so far away and like sort of already wondered that would have happened in my lifetime. And then suddenly it was just, everything's clicked into gear. It's happened in a couple of years and then today's the day. But I think I didn't really, I sat here and fed out all the stats, didn't I, on
00:04:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thursday, I think it was, I went there, we saw Spurs and there's all these things that sort of go in our favor that sort of, well, any of them having real logic behind them. But I think I was just trying to wheel it in. I didn't really see it coming.
00:04:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Although I did say right at the start of the season, my rogue town prediction of that we would win away from home against at least one of the top six. So maybe I saw it coming in August, but yeah, I lost my confidence somewhere between August and this week versus
00:04:56
Richard
um Remember yeah, I'm gonna be saying that
00:04:58
James
Hmm.
00:04:59
Tom Crack
There you go.
00:05:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll start to wheel it into

Balancing Expectations Post-Victory

00:05:04
James
Hmm.
00:05:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
existence as much as I could on Thursday and it looks like I've done the job.
00:05:09
Richard
Yeah, and good on you. I think you said, didn't you, and maybe it was last week's episode, that we're going to have to shock someone to get to get this first result of the season, to get the first win, and you were right. like it It really had to come, I think, in this game or the Man United game after the international break, which we can talk about a little bit later. But if you start going into, we talked about this, if you start getting into December and stuff and you haven't won a game,
00:05:33
Richard
things are starting to look very bleak indeed. But you can just you saw it after the game with the reaction of the players and the staff, like that that was a really and the fans obviously who have been a brilliant at every single away game. I was so close to having a ticket for today as well. I mean, it's like,
00:05:47
Richard
ah so upsetting but um you just saw that kind of reaction and even McKenna afterwards obviously always super cool but just like realizing that this was such a such a huge moment for the club seeing all of that kind of like because you want to keep your feet on the ground it's one win right it doesn't you know it's we haven't done anything yet but seeing that emotion come out you kind of wish it would have happened in week two or week three or whatever and and here we are all these weeks later but that's kind of massive don't you think James moving forward
00:06:18
James
huge. Oh, it's massive. Because like we said, we've been, we've been after this first win. Obviously we're now into the, is it, it's the 11th game, is it?
00:06:28
James
Yeah, isn't it? Yeah. and And we finally got that first one on the board. And like you just said there, Rich, we were obviously wanting it in the first. two, three, maybe four weeks, you know what I mean? And we could have got that ball rolling, but we've just been left in this sort of limbo of, we've been playing well, but the results not coming. So it's been, it's been horrible first 10, 10 sort of games for us. I think it's fans anyway. I can't even imagine what the players have felt like because they've been so close so many times. So for it to come today away at Tottenham. Yeah. Fantastic. I really do think this will set us up now to, to become safe anyway.
00:06:28
Tom Crack
Yeah.
00:07:06
Richard
Well, we're out of the relegation zone at this point, and every single club now has won at least one game. So if you take a quick look at the Premier League, it is really like, it's sort of quite tight. I mean, even down, you know, Spurs obviously, who we beat today, just to remind everybody, they they have lost the same amount of games as us, which seems absolutely nuts, doesn't it, Tom?
00:07:29
Tom Crack
Yeah I mean it's it's really the pre the biggest thing for me it's shown since being here is the fine margins it is just ridiculous how close you can be from like you said being where Spurs are on the same amount of losses but being where we are which I'm i'm grateful where we are we're not in the bottom three but like you know you look at the last three weeks including um this weekend against Spurs we could have potentially almost got seven points out of that where we've we've come away with four which is great but it's just it's just crazy close how difficult it is to get a result in the Premier League so we obviously we're not going to take it for granted but you know looking back at recent weeks there's times when we maybe should have got something but we didn't
00:07:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:08:05
Tom Crack
But yeah, it's it's it's already, you know, we're only a week 11. It's still a long way to go. There's a lot of clubs maybe in positions. of A forest expect to stay on the arthress season, probably not. But you know, so we don't know where we're gonna be. But you know, it's, I'm happy where we are. um I'm struggling to speak to us, man. I'm just, the the emotions of today's, it was, it got the better of me. I can tell you that for sure.
00:08:25
Richard
All right, well, look let's give everyone a quick break and we'll have ah a word from our sponsors. And then when we come back, we'll be talking about some of the players that made today happen.
00:09:07
Richard
And we are back for the second part. I'm not sure if there was a little technical glitch going on there. Apologies if that came across. um So, Rob,

Key Player Performances

00:09:15
Richard
let's start with you. Who were the um standout players from today? i mean ever you we could We could say 1-11, right? But was there anyone in particular that sort stood out to you?
00:09:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, I think the one for me is someone we spoke sort of a decent length about in the week leading and up to this, and that is Jens Caduste. We said that obviously Mausie and Phillips looked like the sort of nailed on partnership, and then we were forced into making that change. And um so and I don't think Phillips will be back in there against Man United after today. He was fantastic. He said he's a player we'd not seen much of, and that we didn't really know how it was going to go. and and so um where he stepped up to the plate completely, didn't he?
00:09:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
He was fantastic from right early on in the first half when he sort of he's a broke forward. He won that corner that Burgess then hit the bathroom. I think he took it himself as well to nearly get an assist.
00:10:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
that He just ran the show alongside Mausie in there for most of the game, really. And I thought I was really impressed because, like I could say, as someone I hadn't seen much of.
00:10:13
Richard
Thank you.
00:10:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, we hadn't had generally, but ah ipa I definitely hadn't because the only game you started, I didn't watch. So my first time getting to properly save an action really, which, and I've been very, very impressed.
00:10:27
Richard
Yeah, he played really, really well. James, what about you? any Anyone in in particular that shone out?
00:10:33
James
Well, ah from what I've seen, because I've seen the highlights now as well, but um I did have the game sort of, well, as much as I could on in work, but not too much obviously working as well. But um from what I did see, I completely agree with Rob. Could you look like a really good player? um I think you might be right. I think he'll be starting against you United 100%, especially after that performance. and Another, excuse me, another standout. I've said his name. we've We've all said his name so many times, but Hutchinson, he just looks so bright.
00:11:03
James
especially playing out on the right again. He really does.
00:11:06
James
He's so direct, is he's exactly what we need and I'm glad now that he is you know finally out on that right hand side because he he looked great, he really did. and I'll be completely honest, Burgess looked good again.
00:11:06
Richard
Yep.
00:11:21
James
Burgess did look good again, so um fair play to him. he's I thought he did all right. Tom shook his head fair enough, and and a couple rose but i thought he I thought he did do okay, personally, and especially against what he was playing against, because obviously sun is always, always bright. You never know what he's going to do. And I thought we dealt with him really well. So ah I'll give him some of that. Yeah, I did mean that as well. Sun bright. Yeah.
00:11:46
Richard
Nice. Pun time. Tom, you do you you weren't that impressed with Burgess?
00:11:53
Tom Crack
Well, we might get into more find details of performances on Tuesday's show, but there were a bit of distribution problems in the first half, which I found from New Richmond Burgess, especially out of those two.
00:12:04
Tom Crack
But we're we're going to be positive on today's show and someone who impressed me and I was so happy to see him back in the starting lineup because we were kind of expecting to be back for United, which was Axl Swanzobi.
00:12:05
James
Yeah.
00:12:13
Tom Crack
I know attacking-wise is where a lot of the big moments were, but He is just so consistent. I think having fire at the back, we were able to have Johnson go forward. He was brilliant again. I think he's really starting to get some confidence now, which is great for him and the team. But Tom Zabe is just such a reliable hand. Like we've said it so many times how in the championship, he was a good player, but, you know, he wasn't a standout member of the squad, really. But this year he's really become a leader in that defense. He's a nailed on starter. I'm so chuffed at him. He's getting to show what he can do because he, I'm just so
00:12:44
Tom Crack
confident whenever he's up against anyone, you know, he's going to get a tackle and at least put his best foot forward and really hope he doesn't get injured because you can see the quality of defense in comparison to when he's not there. It is night and day. So, so happy he's back and happy for the team that he's back in that five or four, whatever you want to call it, depending on the opposition, I guess. But turns a bit for me. Brilliant.
00:13:05
Richard
Yeah, I would agree. I think hit him coming back was huge. i'm I'm not sure if we really expected to have him back this quickly, really. There were reports initially that he was going to be out for a long time.
00:13:11
Tom Crack
No.
00:13:14
Richard
So it's obviously great to have him back. ah But yeah, Ben Johnson, like pretty impressive, to be honest. he played He played really, really well. And I think Amari Hutchinson, that was his best game of the season, like by but probably quite a considerable distance.
00:13:21
Tom Crack
no
00:13:24
James
yeah
00:13:27
Richard
he was He retained the ball and kept hold of the ball and ran with it. As you said, James, he's really, really direct.
00:13:32
Tom Crack
Yeah.
00:13:33
Richard
at least everything that you need Hutchinson to be, particularly away from home. But I'm going to give flowers to my favourite player, Dara O'Shea.
00:13:41
James
Yeah.
00:13:42
Tom Crack
Yeah.
00:13:43
Richard
I actually thought, I actually thought he was really good.
00:13:44
Tom Crack
It was, it was great.
00:13:44
James
yeah
00:13:45
James
Had a good game.
00:13:45
Tom Crack
Yeah.
00:13:46
Tom Crack
make It was really good.
00:13:47
Richard
I actually thought he was really good.
00:13:50
James
Yeah.
00:13:51
Richard
I don't know if that's going to be a consistent thing, but there you go.
00:13:51
Tom Crack
My favourite moment of him was... my favourite moment from him in the first half was there was a shot, I think it was from Johnson or Solanke, it was and it was a decent effort but then O'Shea did a really good close block up to it and it went over the goal for a corner and just a little fist bump in celebration he had, it was like where's that guy been the past few weeks, like celebrated like it was a goal and it was only, it was 0-0 at that point as well I think, maybe 1-0 I'm not sure but you know just to see that you can see the passion that's developing in a lot of new guys and you know it takes time to gel and he's one of the guys who seem to be the case for him but he's
00:14:06
Richard
yeah
00:14:11
James
Yeah.
00:14:14
Richard
Yeah.
00:14:21
James
Hmm.
00:14:24
Tom Crack
coming at least two very good performances in a row for him. Yeah, great shout out of O'Shea, Richard.
00:14:26
Richard
Yep.
00:14:28
Tom Crack
Kind of hijack your point there, but yeah, you look very good.
00:14:29
Richard
Yeah. No, no, no, please hijack away. um Rob, why isn't Sammy Schmodix getting more love?
00:14:33
Tom Crack
but
00:14:36
Richard
Because he seems to be flying under the radar a little bit, I think, Schmodix. And he's actually, all right, he might not be brilliant for 90 minutes, but he he he comes up with these moments and he's and he's done it a few times now.
00:14:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, he just knows where the goal is, isn't he? He's a very important player to have, well, to have somebody like that floating around in the squad. And luckily we've got two because we have to laugh as well, but it just sort of seems to, he's one of them players that might not need, that might not do too much over the course of the game, but he'll walk away with a couple of goals. And he just knows where to be the right place, right time. He's finishing superb as we saw. So the technique on that, little but on that bicycle kick that he didn't get it wasn't particularly high off the ground, but the technique to find it right in that bottom corner to make sure the car had no chances top drawer and he's he's had again, he's another one who's in that bracket has had has picked up the last sort of two or three games with the ads performances have gone that he's one of them has been the standouts in the last few games and he was brilliant again.
00:15:40
Richard
He was. That bicycle kick, I agree with you, obviously the placement of it, but he was kind of, he basically laid down before actually making contact with the ball. It's a bit like what I used to do if I was doing a bicycle kick, like back at school or whatever, you know, there's no air time whatsoever. He just goes...
00:15:59
Richard
they he goes straight to ground but yeah it's a good finish um and it's a good point you're right he'll have these yeah the he'll be fairly quiet I guess fairly innocuous be but he can take a chance like really really efficiently he can take a chance and make something happen. and What about you mentioned Dilap there James are you impressed with Dilap leading the line again?
00:16:18
James
Who's not? I mean, if you find an Ipswich fan who's not impressed with the lap, then they're not an Ipswich fan, right? Cause he's just what a player, right?
00:16:25
James
He's quality. He's quality. He just, he's so strong as well. It's ridiculous. I love how he goes into every single challenge and you can tell he wants to win the ball.
00:16:25
Richard
Yeah
00:16:30
Richard
Yeah.
00:16:35
James
And sometimes I honestly think he doesn't just want to win the ball. He wants to do something to them. like he look He's so aggressive, which is... umm um'm um Obviously, I'm not saying go and do that.
00:16:46
James
It's ridiculous. But that's exactly what we need to lead our line.
00:16:48
Tom Crack
Ha ha ha.
00:16:50
James
Because it's what McKenna... It's how McKenna plays. It's what's working for us. And he is the exact player we need. he's I can't speak highly enough with him.
00:16:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's stat Thompson. Our chat earlier is fantastic as well. And about, but he's got six goals in his first 10 starts and in the Premier League, you can say more than, say one more than Kane, one more than Rudy had three more than Shearer.
00:17:02
James
Great reading.
00:17:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't think how many goals he went on to get in total. It's brilliant, isn't it? Such a, such a sort of high ceiling for him. And just, we hope, thank god hopeful God, we keep holding him for as long as possible.
00:17:24
Richard
Well, no buyback clause, so it should be all right.
00:17:27
James
Yeah.
00:17:28
Richard
Keep City away. and and yeah Finally, on another another one of our um potentially slightly questionable performers over the season so far, Tom, how was Murch today?
00:17:39
Richard
He seemed to have had a distribution, again, maybe not consistent, but he had a decent game.
00:17:42
Tom Crack
Hmm.
00:17:45
Tom Crack
Yeah the the ironic thing was one of his poor distributional efforts I guess we could say um almost led to the second goal because he did like a outside of the boot pass to the middle which got cut up by Spurs then we immediately got it back and counted and scored the second goal so it's you get those hairy moments with him but the things you get with him are I think his shot stopping ability was really good that fantastic one in the 94th from Solanke, heart and mouth moment stuff there and you know one I think his best quality as a goalkeeper is
00:18:09
James
And.
00:18:15
Tom Crack
suppressing crosses, whether it's a corner or a long throw or a cross from the left or right wing, he's very good at going up and catching them. I think it was the Villa game a while back where they had maybe 11 corners or so and none of them really came from him because he was able to jump up and get them. So that's the best thing about him as a goalkeeper, I think, is just suppressing anything like that. But you know it's hard to fault anyone. i mean I don't want to fault anyone, obviously, but you know he's one of the guys we've looked at a lot this season and unfortunately had to do that.

Turning Points: VAR and Future Matches

00:18:38
Tom Crack
but For the most part, great. Few, few iffy moments distribution wise, but sometimes those are great for him, so it's it's hard to fault them entirely because he can do them well sometimes, but all in all, a great performance for him, I'd say. Key saves.
00:18:54
Richard
Saves. He does like a um ah save for the camera a little bit, but then so does Picario. Maybe soda most Premier League goalkeepers these days. They sort of chuck themselves around a little bit. A couple more things before we take another quick break. ah First of all, shout out to Sam Orsey. We had five bookings today and none of them were him. So well done, well done, Captain. And a VAR decision went our way, Rob.
00:19:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh No, it's crazy. Those stats that came out sort of earlier in the week that weighed everything up and we, we had, we have, we were one of the three or four teams, I think that haven't had a decision to go their way in any of the first 10 games that we were over three. So admittedly,

ah one or two of them maybe were the right decision, but this one certainly was. We know what the rule was after. He booted it off his hand to turn it in, didn't he? can't Even before the rule, he was playing handball nowadays, regardless of any touch of the hand.
00:19:50
Richard
Yeah.
00:19:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
and what would What I liked is how quick the decision was as well, because normally they'd take 15 minutes to decide that when he could watch one replay and go, oh, I think he's out and that's not allowed, but they actually pretty much did just watch one or two replays and go, oh, yeah, handball.
00:19:57
Tom Crack
Hmm.
00:19:58
James
yeah
00:19:59
Tom Crack
Hmm.
00:20:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
A good day for VAR, after we slagged it off for a whole week. the ah and It's gone back up in my estimations a bit now.
00:20:11
James
but listen
00:20:15
Richard
it has. Nice, all right well let's take one more quick break and then when we come back we'll be looking to what this first win means and if town can build on this momentum.
00:20:51
Richard
And we are back in part three of the daily Ipswich. All right, boys, so we've got the first win of the season. We now have a two-week break. And when we come back, we have the small matter of Manchester United at home, Amorin's first, Reuben Amorin's first game in charge, it will be. He won't have had much time with the squad, to be honest, because he a lot of those players are going to be away on international duty and the game's going to be at Portman Road.
00:21:18
Richard
James Can we expect that it's going to be like the London bus analogy? We've got one and then the second one's going to come along straight away with the winds They are
00:21:28
James
Why not? I don't see why not. Let's be positive. I'm being positive about it. I think we can absolutely do it because like you said, he's not spent a lot of time with a squad. He's coming into a new team and it's not just any new team. It's Man United who are a bit of a shambles at the minute. So you he's not going to change a lot in two weeks. But having said that, he is obviously a very good manager. He's clearly got the credentials behind him. He's done a lot of sporting. And I think we've all seen in the past,
00:21:58
James
in the Premier League or maybe any new club, when a new manager comes in, that can be a good thing for that team. So that's the one thing I'm worried about. And I'm annoyed that it's happened with us right after the international break.
00:22:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:22:11
James
But yeah, I do think we can absolutely not expect of course, but maybe there's a little, I think a bit more hope than usual. I think we can, ah I think we'll get another win maybe.
00:22:23
James
Yeah. Why not? Why not?
00:22:26
Richard
Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. We've got ah three games. I'm back on the sort of positivity wagon because now we've got this win, obviously. I predicted, what, 10th at the start of the season.
00:22:36
Richard
We're only eight points off that.
00:22:38
James
Yeah.
00:22:39
Richard
So we've we got to start picking up, you know, a few more of these things. ah So, Tom, we've got three games, I think, out of the next four are at are at Portman Road.
00:22:50
Richard
We've got United. Then we've got, I think it's Forest Away, isn't it?
00:22:55
Tom Crack
Yeah, then Palace in Bournemouth.
00:22:55
James
yeah
00:22:56
Richard
and then we've got And then Palace, then Bournemouth. Bournemouth are obviously a very decent team this season.
00:22:59
Tom Crack
Yeah.
00:23:01
Richard
and But that's three games at home out of four. That's a pretty critical and run of games, no matter who we're playing, to be honest, because we need we need to take some points. how am How important do you think this little little period of the season is going to be?
00:23:14
Richard
And then getting the monkey off the back, as we talked about with this first win, you can kind of enjoy the international break a little bit more potentially, just knowing that that that kind of pressure's gone a bit.
00:23:23
Tom Crack
Yeah, totally. I mean, we've said on previous international breaks, going into it, not in the relegation zone, it's a good feeling, especially going into it off a win is even better.
00:23:30
Richard
Yeah.
00:23:32
Tom Crack
These free home games out of the four, it's it's good, but you know, I'm i'm very, I like our away form a lot. We we always seem to score all the way away. And I think our last two away games, including Brentford, like we've put in some really good performances.
00:23:43
Tom Crack
So going to Forest, us and it's a very tough place that they're flying at the moment, but like I think we can be okay there. Home's difficult. I don't know if home's getting the better of us sometimes like we saw Everton and the Heartbreak of Leicester.
00:23:57
Tom Crack
It does maybe seem a tough I don't know. I don't know what you guys think about I'm a bit indifferent at home from right now and United's a bit of a tough game Well,
00:24:04
Richard
What you think, you you don't think home for me, you don't think being at home is is necessarily an advantage for us at the moment.
00:24:11
Tom Crack
obviously it is but I just just thinking like We haven't got a home win yet, and I think sometimes that pressure can build as well. I don't want to try and... I feel like I'm bringing the negative aspects to this, so I apologize guys, because it's the first win. But yeah, it's like we're going to have an almost run of free away games almost after this at some point, considering how many we've got here. And I'm confident about that as well.
00:24:37
Tom Crack
Yeah. I don't know. I think the opposition, whoever comes, it's going to be tough. So I'm not sure at the moment where the location is the, itch is the, uh, is the help. Cause the team seems to be in good spirits, whether they play with Scott and right. Or we saw Tom hotspur stadium. I but hopefully be united. That's for sure.
00:24:53
Richard
Yeah, interesting. and Rob, what are your thoughts on it?

Impact of Man United's New Manager

00:24:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've changed my opinion, to be honest, on that United game because I was all i was in the same camp as James. I just thought, here we go, new manager bounce, horrible timing for us. I actually think it's the the unideal time to play them now with the new manager coming in because it in we don't know what he's going to do because his system is so far away from what you United currently play and what their players fit in that
00:25:14
Richard
Potentially. Yeah.
00:25:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's got to make that decision. Does he cut people out? Does he play them out of position or does he try and force a system that fits the players they've currently got? So I think he's going to be a bit in limbo of not knowing what to do because he's got all these fantastic results at sporting and that Braga before that.
00:25:34
James
Mm.
00:25:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's a three, four, three manager, Ruben Amory, tell me where someone like Bruno Fernandez, for example, he's not going to play centimeter in the four, is he? But he's also not going to go in the front three and scored sort of goal and effectively forced the own goal this weekend, becoming a key player again after some poor performances, he doesn't really fit. The centre-half options are quite poor outside of minors and delics, so who comes in to be that third option? The fullbacks aren't really wingbacks most of the time. I don't see a 3-4-3 squad there, so I think he's going to be forced to change, which then maybe puts him out of his comfort zone and gives us a chance. I think straight in, like you said, when he's had a week and the players are all on international duty and he's only there with half of them,
00:26:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
it' the ideal time to play them. I think if and actually a month down the line he's probably going to figure things out by then and then maybe kickstart that bit of a roll. The thing is with Man United as well that he's already under pressure.
00:26:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
If he if he doesn't get a result game one he's under pressure already because they'll just be thinking they'll van this story. He's just got a draw and three wins in his four games so but why didn't why don't we just give him the job if this bloke's come in and lost to Ipswich straight away that he's under pressure to get it to get it and I just think that
00:26:39
James
No.
00:26:42
James
Sure.
00:26:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah because ah that ah there's not three, four, three set up within that Man United team. I don't think with the players they've got that I think he's going to be four for change. And that's how we get them because he, it's not how Amorim likes to play.
00:27:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
And they're still adapting anyway, that I'm hoping that I'm not sure whether that's just biased because we won a game now and I'm full of confidence again out of nowhere.
00:27:09
James
yeah
00:27:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
But as I, my views, that I've changed my view on that. um I'm just annoyed that there's an international break in between because it's horrible. I want momentum now, not a two-week break.
00:27:19
James
Yeah. Yeah.
00:27:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
The nation seems rubbish anyway.
00:27:22
James
I don't know.
00:27:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
No one cares about it. The pointless season international breaks.
00:27:27
Tom Crack
waste of time
00:27:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
that ah so If we played United next week, I'd be nailed on.
00:27:29
Richard
But do you know what?
00:27:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'd beat them. But the two weeks is what puts me off slightly. But I still think there's a result there to be had.
00:27:34
James
ah in it
00:27:38
Richard
I think there is. I think there definitely is. I was just looking at my United's results. Yeah, Vanister has got three three wins and one draw. You're right. But all of his games were at home and two of them were against Leicester.
00:27:48
James
yeah
00:27:50
Richard
So, you know, he kind of did what he was supposed to do, didn't he, really?
00:27:50
James
ah
00:27:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
True. I mean, he's he's got the same amount of wins as 10 hard already to be fair. So he's done all right for himself.
00:27:56
James
say
00:27:57
Richard
what What we need is for his first away game, Amorins, to be like Ten Hogs. I think they got bopped 4-0 by Brentford in Ten Hogs first away game.
00:28:03
James
Yeah. Bread for dinner.
00:28:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, I did actually. Yeah.
00:28:08
Tom Crack
Yeah.
00:28:09
Richard
And they looked absolutely clueless, and they kind of had for the last two years, apart from Cup games.
00:28:11
James
Hmm.
00:28:15
Richard
But, um yeah, that's what that's what we need, isn't it? That's what we need. I'm kind of I'm going to take I'm going to take the slightly different angle on the international break. I actually think because it's going to be feeling very emotional about this result and stuff.
00:28:27
Richard
and You know, I know they're all professionals and things, so they'll probably just get on with it in a few days time. But I think actually for everybody else, it's just it's an opportunity just to be like, oh, cool. we We kind of belong a little bit in inverted commas, so we can just kind of like relax into it a little bit more.
00:28:38
James
Yes. Have a bit of a breath.
00:28:41
Richard
ah have a bit of a breather and come back and give it the beans and hope that we can get on maybe a little run or something.
00:28:44
James
Yeah.
00:28:52
Richard
All right guys, anything else to add from today?
00:28:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:28:54
Richard
It's been a big day for us all. It's been a draining day in some ways, but obviously fantastic to get that first one on the board.
00:29:03
James
just up the town lads just up the town gets in unbelievable what a day what a day
00:29:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:29:04
Tom Crack
Hmm. Hmm.
00:29:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I would just like to formally take back everything I've ever said about the pink kit and the build up to this season as well. I think it's brilliant and we should wear it every week.
00:29:18
Richard
I think we should wear it every week.
00:29:21
James
Absolutely. like
00:29:21
Tom Crack
Yeah, I echo Rob's sentiments.
00:29:22
Richard
And maybe play Spurs every week.
00:29:24
Tom Crack
Yeah.
00:29:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah that's the other option
00:29:27
Richard
Because you might win 50% of the games, potentially. Did they did that dude

Closing Thoughts and Future Hopes

00:29:31
Tom Crack
I'm not sure.
00:29:31
Richard
do his thing at the start?
00:29:33
Richard
um um um um they They have someone like playing on the roof, don't they?
00:29:37
James
Yeah.
00:29:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah oh yeah
00:29:39
Richard
yeah I can't bear Tottenham, to be honest.
00:29:42
Tom Crack
I thought you were referring to the Remembrance Sunday horn there.
00:29:43
Richard
There you go. Sorry.
00:29:45
Tom Crack
That that should be a that should be a good thing.
00:29:45
Richard
No, no.
00:29:47
Tom Crack
I was like, well, Richard, that's a controversial take.
00:29:50
Richard
Well I'm not that worried about that either but no I was talking about the doing oh i when the Saints oh when the Saints let's be very clear about that.
00:29:53
James
yeah
00:29:57
Tom Crack
Right.
00:29:57
James
Yeah. And then I'll win. Oh, yeah.
00:30:00
James
All right. Inventive.
00:30:01
Richard
all one sps yeah no what
00:30:04
Richard
