AI's Threat to Humanity
00:00:00
Baker Plbg
Okay, I'm telling you people, AI is going to end us all. End us all. We are we are literally building our own cages. Listen to this.
Proposed AI Data Center in Alberta
00:00:09
Baker Plbg
yeah ah In November of 2025, an AI database ah or but data center worth $10 billion dollars is trying to get approval ah in Olds, Alberta. If you're not from Alberta, you don't know where Olds is. You know why? Because there's 10,000 people that live there. And it went if this goes through and is completed, it will consume as much electricity as the city of Edmonton, which is our capital city.
Rapid Approval and Regulatory Concerns
00:00:36
Baker Plbg
It is bananas. So they started, they they approached the town in November,
00:00:42
Baker Plbg
got got approval in and ah January and hoped to start digging in March. You can't build a house that fast. And these guys are just slamming
Environmental Impact of Data Center
00:00:55
Baker Plbg
it in there. They are proposing also the the natural gas. It'll be powered by natural gas that will produce 1.6 gigawatts of energy each day solely to power, which would become the largest artificial intelligence data center in the country.
00:01:14
Baker Plbg
What are you guys doing? And like I said, they approached the town in November. went public near the end of January and wants to start construction in March. That's pretty optimistic. They're talking about how much regulation has to go through.
00:01:27
Baker Plbg
Of course, there's deer and loon and beavers and all sorts of stuff. Have any of that been looked after? It is fascinating to me that all of a sudden ah we don't care about the green initiatives anymore.
Secrecy and Suspicion Around the Project
00:01:40
Baker Plbg
Sandra Blythe, who is the economic development manager for the town's investment agency, says she signed a non-disclosure, which means she cannot discuss many of the details. Why the hell not?
00:01:52
Baker Plbg
That is so suspicious. ah And I'm looking at it. It's in the Narwhal. I'll post the link. And she's grinning like a chimpanzee.
00:02:03
Baker Plbg
um Anyway, she's just delighted. Of course, you know, what are we going to do? They're worried about air and noise pollution. You're literally installing the natural gas power plant to power this thing. And the wastewater, which will clearly be contaminated what no matter what they tell you.
00:02:21
Baker Plbg
And I did find it interesting that ah in on Reddit, there is a new data center being built out in the southern states. But they will not reveal the location ah Because um the town is not ready for national media.
Questioning AI's Benefits
00:02:40
Baker Plbg
Now listen to this quote.
00:02:42
Baker Plbg
the It's not like these towns have really sophisticated public communications departments with people that handle um all this stuff. It's really sensitive for them, but not for us. You know why it's not for you? Because you are making hundreds of millions of dollars off of this.
00:02:58
Baker Plbg
Listen, I think we really... i I don't think AI is the answer to anything. I think it's crap. I think that this needs to slow the hell down. I think we're destroying the environment while at the same time saying it was saving saying we're saving it.
Reflection and Call for Feedback
00:03:18
Baker Plbg
i This is insanity. Instead of governments looking for new investments, governments need to stop spending so much damn money. As usual, those are my thoughts, not yours.
00:03:32
Baker Plbg
um Tell me what you think. Are we literally building our own cages? Are we tethering ourselves to infrastructure and systems that will ultimately entrap us and enslave us?
00:03:52
Baker Plbg
I don't know what call it. My thoughts, not yours. my thoughts not yours
