Apocalyptic Narratives and Control

00:00:00
Baker Plbg
Okay, a little bit different tactic today, different subject. The end is near the apocalypse. It's all over. You need to just pack up your stuff and and shelter in place.
00:00:10
Baker Plbg
Find the underground tunnels where all the elites are.
00:00:15
Baker Plbg
Listen, the end of the world has always been a narrative touted by ah people in prominent and powerful positions.
00:00:26
Baker Plbg
And then I think that's used as a ah method to control the masses, if you will. I encourage you to read this book. I read this a couple years ago.
00:00:37
Baker Plbg
um The End is Always Near. ah Apocalyptic Moments from the Bronze Age Collapse to Nuclear Near Misses. It's a fabulous read. It's about 200 pages.
00:00:49
Baker Plbg
Even for a tradesman, it's you know three or four days if you focus.
00:00:55
Baker Plbg
Anyway, the end i the end is always near, certainly in a personal sense. One day we will all die. And I hope that it between now and then that you find what's meaningful for you, what's rewarding for you, what gives back to your people in the best way possible.

Skepticism of End-of-World Predictions

00:01:17
Baker Plbg
I do think it's interesting in my own lifetime, and you guys will all remember, there was the, you know, 2000 was going to be the end of the world with Y2K. The Aztec calendar, don't forget that. That was like 2012.
00:01:33
Baker Plbg
was coming to an end and we were all, it was all over. course, you know, there's the crazy Haladron Collider. Apparently we're on some new timeline world. We're actually all dead. i don't know if you've heard that one or not.
00:01:47
Baker Plbg
And then I just saw one today that, uh, The decades-old scientific prediction reward warns that 2026 is the year that it will all be over.
00:01:58
Baker Plbg
And this is from the physicist Heinz von Forrester in 1960. so Listen, um I don't subscribe to any of that stuff.

Reflecting on Mortality and Meaning

00:02:11
Baker Plbg
i I do understand my own mortality, oh having watched people I love and care for slip from this world to the next.
00:02:23
Baker Plbg
And the only thing that I can say that's meaningful to me... is that what you do in this life matters and it matters a great deal in the life to come. And you can, we can, that's a totally different conversation, and but I absolutely ah believe and know that there is more to than what, than what we can see, hear, feel, taste, touch, smell, all the rest of that stuff.
00:02:52
Baker Plbg
And I think if you're honest with yourself, um,
00:02:56
Baker Plbg
You know that too. um What that means exactly, i don't think anyone knows. I think that's you know spawned religions, ah thousands and thousands of books, endless philosophers, endless wondering, and someday we will know.
00:03:14
Baker Plbg
Or we won't. Either it'll just be black, or it'll be a great big, oh my goodness, this is fantastic.

Men's Mental Health and Genuine Engagements

00:03:24
Baker Plbg
Anyway, I wish you luck in your journey.
00:03:26
Baker Plbg
ah Given that it's June and it's Men's Mental Health Month, I would just reiterate that it's important to find things that ah provide meaning and focus and reward in your life that aren't artificial.
00:03:47
Baker Plbg
I think so much of what we do in today's world is fake. Just social media. Is there really engagement? Are you really talking and having meaningful conversations with people? i think I think that's true and I think that's untrue at the exact same time.
00:04:06
Baker Plbg
um ah So I think it's important that we, what what are the what are the five best medicines? Let me think about that for half a second.
00:04:16
Baker Plbg
ah So I paused that just for a second and i typed in the five best medicines. And of course, Google will tell you. ah um Penicillin, acetaminophen, which is basically Tylenol, ibuprofen,
00:04:37
Baker Plbg
atorvasulin, which is lower cholesterol, insulin, and then SSRIs. That's a whole different class. So you should stay away from SSRIs, in my opinion.
00:04:51
Baker Plbg
What I was looking for, and of course, it's not on any medical thing. The five, or it's actually six. The six best doctors that you can have for your own mental health is sunshine, get out and get it, good clean water, rest, air, exercise, and diet.
00:05:09
Baker Plbg
And so if you're feeling like a piece of garbage, like the floor of your truck or the back of your truck, then I encourage you to find some sunshine, some water, some rest, some air, some exercise, and eat something real.
00:05:25
Baker Plbg
it's It's a complicated life, and there which means there are no just answers. Do this, and it's fine. There's way too many gurus out there. I am not a guru. I'm living my own life. I have my own problems and challenges, but...

Nature as a Mental Well-being Solution

00:05:41
Baker Plbg
I do think that some of the best resets in the world are just getting out in nature. And I certainly enjoy that. The old ranch here. i encourage you to take a pragmatic view of the world that this is actually true. The end is, it doesn't matter where, when, or how, the end is always imminent.
00:06:04
Baker Plbg
And it's important that we make the most of the moments that we are in Because you never know when your personal end is coming. Good luck out there. Just as a final note, I'm happy to reach out to anybody that feels that they're now stressed or can't find the end. We've all been there.
00:06:28
Baker Plbg
We all feel overwhelmed. We all feel underappreciated, certainly in the worlds that we work in. And I think it's important that the community and real conversation and real engagement is by far the best thing that could happen here. And I'm here for that. And I would love to have a conversation with anybody that's sort of feeling rugged out there.
00:06:55
Baker Plbg
My thoughts, not yours.
