I’m so excited for today’s episode because I get to sit down with my dear friend, Quendie from Quendie Joy. She’s not only a stunning makeup artist known for her signature soft glam style, but also one of the bubbliest, most magnetic people I know. For the past five years, I’ve been referring her because she brings so much beauty, talent, and joy to every client she touches.

But here’s the best part—you need to follow Quendie on social media. She’s hilarious, unfiltered, and always keeps it real. From silly stories about planning her own wedding, to navigating life on crutches or in a wheelchair, she shares it all with authenticity and humor.

In this episode, we dive into: ✨ What it’s like planning a wedding as both a wedding professional and a bride-to-be ✨ Her journey to Guadalajara, Mexico, where she’ll say “I do” later this year (and yes, I’ll be there!) ✨ Why joy, humor, and authenticity are her superpowers—on and off social media

You’re going to fall in love with Quendie’s energy, her honesty, and her laughter. Get ready for a conversation that’s equal parts insightful and fun!

Quindy's Makeup Artistry Style

00:02:05
Speaker
Hey everyone, welcome back to Get a Heck Yes with my dear friend Quindy with Quindy Joy. She's one of my favorite, or actually she's my favorite makeup artist here in OC in l LA and she's going to get married this year. She's gorgeous.
00:02:22
Speaker
She's so high energy and fun and I'm happy to have you on here, Quindy. What's up? Oh my gosh, you're so sweet. I am so happy to be on. I feel like you are just so, you're always a light and I feel like I'm so attracted to it. So it's like, it's so fun. It's always a good time.
00:02:40
Speaker
Yeah, me and you are like too light just like coming together. Yeah. Make a sign. And then when the brides are there, we're like, ah! We're just like all around them, hyping them up. It's so And we're like, let's catch up for like five seconds.
00:02:53
Speaker
Okay, back to the ride. Exactly. I know. Okay, I'm working. Yeah, exactly. Okay, tell the Get a Heck Yes audience who you are a nutshell. Well, hello, everybody. I am Quindy Joy. As she said, i do hair and makeup.
00:03:10
Speaker
In Los Angeles and OC. um i really specialize in, like, I would say Asian Americans or even, like, very soft, natural, you know, soft glam. But I find it, like, I get all races and it's so fun because...
00:03:28
Speaker
they don't go with the norm of their culture, you know, because we're just more like soft, but still a little glam. Yeah, that is you that is so you. yeah I know I've been slowly as I'm like more in the industry. I'm like, oh, I'm seeing my niche. It's very much getting carved out on its own, which is kind of fun.
00:03:49
Speaker
Yeah, it's definitely not like Kardashian, but like there's enough pop to like be like a wow factor, but also not to like be like, who am I? You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. I think um one of the things I heard from one of my clients, which was really sweet, she's like scrolling through other artists and she's like how she found me was when she saw other people's is like the before and after they're like,
00:04:11
Speaker
they didn't look like themselves and I want to look like myself. And I was like, yeah, okay. Like that is what I do. Like I want to make you but better yeah your your best version. It's not even better. It's just your best version.
00:04:23
Speaker
Yes, that is perfectly said about you, whoever said that. um But think yeah, we've been working together for a long time. But what attracted me to you was obviously like your personality and you're so like fun to be around. And I just started referring you. And then it's interesting because sometimes I refer vendors, but then the client like doesn't book them or like for some reason for I don't know why, because I don't really talk to them after. but Every time I refer you, they seem to book you. So I don't know. We could talk more about that. But let's go into like your origin story a little

Journey from the Philippines to LA

00:04:58
Speaker
bit. Tell everyone like where you're from and anything about you.
00:05:03
Speaker
Oh, my gosh. My origin story. It's like I'm a superhero.
00:05:08
Speaker
In beauty. um My origin story. So I actually was born in Philippines. So I came here when I was really young. i We definitely tried to assimilate really hard.
00:05:19
Speaker
um So growing in school, I kind of battled like that Asian American identity because I wasn't Asian enough to be like with the Chinese kids and stuff, you know, and ah wasn't American enough with like The Latin kids and the white kids. So was very much like trying to find that that place for myself.
00:05:41
Speaker
And I grew up in SGB. So that was kind of like the two two cultures I was around was like Hispanic and and Chinese. So while that also like grew my food addiction, because it was like the best food i was surrounded by.
00:05:59
Speaker
yeah yeah And then so I grew up um by a single mother. but she raised four girls. So surrounded by very, very strong, powerful women.
00:06:12
Speaker
ah yeah very strong women. And I feel like we very much had to like carver like carve out a space for ourselves. And I think as I got into the beauty world, like we were just saying, I felt like that's kind of how it became.
00:06:28
Speaker
Because at one point, I actually was working in with about eight teams. So I was hustling. yeah um i One of the teams was based out in Calabasas. So most of our clientele was Caucasian women and like very American styles and i you know i was making my way and making sure i was able to nail that style and then i also had um i was also in a team which is predominantly asian very east asian so that was like almost like k-beauty um you know style yeah so i of course i catered to the clientele that they had and that they offered but that
00:07:10
Speaker
Every time i came to myself, like I didn't, you know, it didn't really resonate with me as much because it was like, I think I love but two, you know, i think it was like that combination. And I think what I could really correlate it with right now and what's trending is that Thai style makeup.
00:07:31
Speaker
so yeah so it's like very much it's still soft you know we're not doing like super harsh things and we're not being very aggressive with the looks but we're definitely giving that pop and and still making it pronounced and like making sure that our Our looks are very, don't know.
00:07:52
Speaker
How do i explain it? Beautiful. Yeah, beautiful. But noticeable. Yeah, me and you kind of look like Thai princesses. That's so nice. I love that.
00:08:04
Speaker
I love when people, like, guess my race. like or like my Yeah, because I get, like, Korean out here. Now I'm in Bonaparte area because we're in Ketow. Yeah. Yeah.
00:08:15
Speaker
Tell me about like when

Passion for Weddings and Personal Connections

00:08:16
Speaker
you started oh yeah tell me when you we saw you started like ah getting into like makeup and skincare and all the beauty stuff. um How did I get into it? my My high school best friend, which is still my best friend, she started doing makeup and she got into an Asian company out in Pasadena and they were doing like wedding wedding hair and makeup there. And I was, I fell in love with hair. Actually, I started off doing hair.
00:08:48
Speaker
And I remember like as a child, my mom would braid my siblings hair and I was like, how did you do that? But she didn't really have time, you know, to like really teach me and sit down or at least I just went ahead and did it myself. So I would just grab hair and twist, twist, twist. And I was like, this is a braid.
00:09:07
Speaker
And it wasn't, you know, it was a big fat knot that we would have to cut out. you But I was convinced like I'm doing what you're doing. It's just not as good yet. Yeah. so yeah. And I started like cutting hair in high school.
00:09:21
Speaker
Wow. It was like $5 a pop. It was not good, but people thought they were getting a deal and it was a great learning experiment for me. So when I actually, yeah, i I got into the industry because I thought I wanted to be a hairstylist, like in the salon.
00:09:40
Speaker
And then I found the wedding niche and loved, Every moment. and Yeah. I mean, it's good that you started with hair because I know a lot of makeup artists that don't do hair. So it's a lot easier to find someone that does both.
00:09:55
Speaker
That is so true. i yeah I heard that a lot in beginning of the career. But I think now, I think now like the space where hair has evolved. Yeah. My daughter was like, can you do roomy hair? And I'm like trying to do like a inside out braid. And but like, I'm missing piece. I'm like, this is so awkward. Like I'd done it once, but then I couldn't do it the second time. That's that's the demon slayer thing, right? Yeah. With like the purple little hair. But I'm like, it's hard to do like the...
00:10:22
Speaker
Under, under, under for the brain. Yeah. i'm like It feels unnatural. Yeah. yeah good Yeah. Okay. So let's talk about getting into the wedding niche. Did you fall into it? Um, what was that all about and what was like your first wedding? Like, I think I fell into it because I realized that it was a market. Right.
00:10:44
Speaker
So, um, I first worked with my mentor, um, Nicoletta Daskalaki. She now owns the company Brides and Hair Pins. Okay. And they're based out in Texas now, but originally she was a hair and makeup artist. and so she kind of like was in that um little group out in Pasadena and then she brought me on um and that's where I kind of like fell in love with the idea of like hair and makeup for weddings because it was again like best day ever. Everybody's best day ever. like its How can you be upset with that? Like
00:11:17
Speaker
However, I will say it has the stresses. Yeah. oh You know what I mean? very, very high pressure, but it's like, I, you can never not be happy because it's so fun. People are so either in love.
00:11:30
Speaker
And so you feel the love in the room with the family and friends. I yeah once I got into it I I knew I loved it i still was trying to pursue and makeup for a sitcom because that was actually like my original dream and like even Disney Channel like I love television and um but I didn't let go of my weekends so like weddings was always priority to me so I think that kind of like closed doors and opportunities and I was going to school.
00:12:00
Speaker
So yeah, it just weddings just kind of became it. And it was just, I love it. I still love it now after almost 13 years. wow And I don't think many people can say that.
00:12:13
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, we're OGs. Just thinking back on our careers, like working together, got to say, like, you're one of the only makeup artists that have like a smile on your face the whole time. Really? Yeah. I will say you might not catch the the like frowns that I have because I'm definitely stressed.
00:12:32
Speaker
It gets hot. Yeah, does. With all the hot tools. I know, yeah. And all the laughing. but like I know. I get hot and once I'm hot, I'm uncomfortable and I'm like, we're okay, we're okay. It's a sauna.
00:12:43
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's so chaotic. I just imagine like 14 people or like 14 plus people in the room and just like people like. getting all their crap everywhere and just like, yeah, like, like quarantine here.
00:12:57
Speaker
it is Yeah. All the coffee, all the food. and Yeah. yeah like Away from my stuff, please.
00:13:06
Speaker
Oh my God. What was like the aha moment where you're like, I want to turn this into my own business and like really go for it. What was the aha moment?
00:13:20
Speaker
I feel like working with so many teens, and i loved all of them, and they were so fun. I felt like I want the bride, you know? yeah like Because I was working on bridesmaids and mothers, and while those are always so fun, I felt like I am like, I want to work on the bride. i want to see how she feels. I want to see her point of view.
00:13:45
Speaker
And actually, I think what also keeps me so entertained is that I get to know all of these people. So I get like a peek into their life, each and every client, right? Every 45 minutes, every hour, like you're you're talking to somebody new.
00:13:59
Speaker
And i that's what kind of keeps me going and makes me want to like, this is so fun. Yeah. Yeah. What percentage of like your, your job is like having a good personality versus talent?
00:14:11
Speaker
Yeah. It's like 100, 100, right? Yeah. I do feel like it's it's definitely personality. I've come to own that more because in the beginning when people would say it's like, well, that's so nice. They're just being nice. you know like I'm not that special, but I think I am kind of special. Yeah, you are. It's just because we are in like enjoying each other's presence.
00:14:39
Speaker
Yeah. And I think it's funny because I tell friends right sometimes I'm like, ah to tell me to shut up. I will talk. I'm here to entertain myself. Yeah. It's like the, the happiest I am the best, the quality work is crazy. Yeah. You know?
00:14:55
Speaker
So it's like, once you're happy, like we're both mutually happy because of course I feed off their energy. So when they're like nervous and like quiet, I'm like, okay, like we're going to work with this, but I'm at the end of this, I need you laughing. I need you smiling and just, Oh,
00:15:13
Speaker
having so much fun. Yeah. I mean, cause you're like the very start of the day. So to kick it off with like good energy, like it makes the whole day go by smooth. Okay. A couple more questions before hot topic, maybe two questions.
00:15:26
Speaker
um But what was like your, and know. i feel like, You're pretty amazing on social media and that's like not our hot topic today. But like, do you have any, can you tell people about like your mindset behind like social media, your content?
00:15:42
Speaker
ah Because yeah, you're you're kind of pushing out good content for all the years that I've known you.
00:15:50

00:18:17
Speaker
Oh my gosh, thank you. I really appreciate that. I feel like I actually personally feel very little and uncomfortable with my social media. I feel like it always could be better. it always could be like more like scroll stopping is what they say.
00:18:33
Speaker
I enjoy it. I actually studied communications and PR. Okay. So, and I didn't really love PR. So I actually wanted to go into marketing before COVID and and before like really um cementing myself as a brand and and and telling myself I was going to pursue this full time. Yeah.
00:18:55
Speaker
I was was very much like, I'm gonna go into marketing. So I think I might see it in that perspective. Interesting. And then i also like just love it.
00:19:06
Speaker
It's creative to me. you know And again, it kind of goes back into me wanting to be intelligent maybe not in television, but behind the scenes of television. So to me, it's like, I want to create something that's so interesting.
00:19:19
Speaker
um However, I will still always critique my stuff. Right now, I think I'm accepting the chaos. Because before, like what, like, let's say five to 10 years, no, like, let's say five to six years.
00:19:33
Speaker
in on ig specifically everything was so curated everything was so pretty yeah and i felt like that wasn't me like i would try i would try my best but i'm so much more maybe type b and like more chaotic where it's like it's organic and i want to feel what i'm posting yeah um but you're more like yeah you're more like behind the scenes type Yeah, but definitely half the time, I'm just posting to posts sometimes like, oh, hey, I'm here.
00:20:05
Speaker
So I think like my tip, if if you would even call it a tip, because everybody says it, it's like that consistency. I don't think fort don't overcreate where you burn out and need yeah you don't like it.
00:20:19
Speaker
um i think definitely consistently a few times a week ahhu will definitely make a difference because you're you're showing up and you're reminding people that you exist. Yeah, and you're definitely consistent.
00:20:30
Speaker
Yeah. I am too. i like i Yeah, you definitely are. And I feel like I live in stories. I think that's where I need to sometimes pull it out and make a reel, pull it out, make a post.
00:20:43
Speaker
Because stories is like, I enjoy sharing things about my life. You are seeing, even though it looks like you're seeing a lot, you're definitely only seeing like 15% of it. But like, and but like ah Just post. and And I think also another tip is like, just close your eyes. Like, who cares?
00:21:00
Speaker
Like, it lives for 24 hours, you know? If it's cringy, whatever. Like, it's cringy to you or maybe even to your friends. Like, but if to somebody, it resonates. Yeah, and people are seeing it, so...
00:21:12
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. So last question before Hot Topic. um Let's talk about being four daughters, single mom. What was like the biggest lesson that you learned in a family of females?
00:21:26
Speaker
Or any i don't any lesson you learned from your mom or your just, I don't know, because i've I don't have that perspective in life. So it's interesting. Yeah. I would say, what have I learned?
00:21:37
Speaker
i I will say she had tenacity. you know, she, she's been ah working nights all of my, basically all of my life. So, and she still does that.
00:21:48
Speaker
So I feel like she's, consistent and all of my siblings, like I've gone to see them, like with all their hardships, they kind of just keep pushing, uhu you know? And, and, and I feel like that's what's made me, I mean, it's, it's difficult to say because like their experience is different. I'm the youngest.
00:22:08
Speaker
So ah like, while I think some people think like I am spoiled a little bit, I felt like I've had to navigate all of those personalities, yeah you know, and they're strong.
00:22:19
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. They're very strong. Well, some like exteriorly, you might think that I'm the strongest in personality. I think like they're actually very strong. They're just more quiet about it. You know what I mean?
00:22:30
Speaker
I knew you were the youngest. Yeah. You definitely have younger guys. Yeah. You know what? We're the most fun. We are. We are definitely the most fun. We want, we want things to be fun. And yeah.
00:22:44
Speaker
So I feel like, Yeah. Okay. So this is a very relevant topic on what's going on today in your life.

Emotional Journey of Wedding Planning

00:22:52
Speaker
um And everyone go check out Quindy Joy and you can see updates on what's to come in her life this year. Something very important and special, but what is your hot topic and why is it so near and dear to your heart?
00:23:03
Speaker
My hot topic is getting married as a wedding pro herself. And um it's it's so exciting. um We are doing it fast.
00:23:15
Speaker
So we're doing it in like a three month time span, you know, and in Mexico. So with my limited Spanish, three years in high school did nothing for me.
00:23:28
Speaker
So my limited Spanish and trying to navigate all of this has been has been so fun and so exhausting a little bit. Yeah. It's exhausting. Yeah. i I love it. I think what i've what's shown up the most for me is kind of like how strong our relationship is so like every time I want to like break down or like freak out because maybe it's because I'm a woman and maybe because I'm hormonal um he's been able to like call me you know he he's very much like the rock and and he was saying the other day he's like you're my rock and i was like oh so we're just two rocks because you're definitely mine so
00:24:13
Speaker
We're just two walks walking around. That's cute. Because that's what it feels like. um And yeah, so I think there's a lot of, there's almost like expectations for this wedding, right?
00:24:24
Speaker
and And I think it's also, it's it's kind of like my own expectations. Like this has to be bomb, you know? i I said it years ago when I get married, it's going to be all or nothing. So it has to be like,
00:24:39
Speaker
Like we're just going to go to courthouse and something simple. Yeah. Because I can't execute my fantasy, like my dream wedding. Yeah. um And then, but i I somehow with, I will say the prices that's different from US and Mexico. Yeah. I am, we're able to like afford a little bit more and we're able to like kind of,
00:24:59
Speaker
see it come to fruition a little bit more. Yeah. um So it's been fun. I think, um yeah, all of this has been fun, a little bit um chaotic and oh a lot of details that's difficult to deal with. But I think mostly what what does overwhelm me is kind of like the emotional aspect of it and you don't recognize that you don't recognize that as a wedding pro I would say like you hear it a little bit but you don't know it until you feel it and I think that's kind of like um I just saw to talk of this woman she's a therapist she's 38 and she's getting married and what she's dealing with is like asking
00:25:42
Speaker
people to show up for you. Yeah. And I'm like, oh, that's so hard because it's like, you don't want to bother. but You don't want to ask. Uh-huh. and And then you kind of, you're seeing, you're seeing your network and your group of people like in a different lens.
00:25:58
Speaker
Yeah. You know? You're kind of like, Oh, now that it's my time to shine, like you kind of see like, who is there, who is like, so there that they're bothering you.
00:26:10
Speaker
And then who, who are the ones that, that kind of fade away in the background. And it's like, Oh, that's, that's a bit of a shame. But I think, um, recognizing like, you can ask, you know, like you can,
00:26:25
Speaker
um you deserve to be like for for people to show up for you. Yeah. I mean, one thing I wanted to say from my experience is like, yeah, you might get disappointed by people, but i don't know. Don't take it personal. It could be like something they're going through and their heads or like the people that are going to show up for you or maybe um really love weddings. Like I love weddings and I'll show up you know, for people that are, I'm not as close with because I just want to be like at all the festivities like yours.
00:26:57
Speaker
So it's kind of like, um, that's a good, that's really insightful. Yeah. The emotions are high and like, yeah, you could be really hurt by some people like, not wanting to go dress shopping with you or do all the things or maybe they don't have the money, you know? So um how do you, how are you like preparing like your bridesmaids and your family? Are you like having a lot of dialogue? you have any like communication tips for them?
00:27:26
Speaker
Tips for that. I would actually, I'm actually having very little dialogue. It sounds like it sounds so backwards. i I get like focused and nervous and like stressed that more like talking to more people is like overwhelming me. So I'm just like kind of like looking down and trying to focus on whatever's in front of me.
00:27:48
Speaker
um And yeah, I i think I've like just told them, Like, I haven't. i haven't told them, but I need to. Yeah. I think I need to put, like, what's expectations, right?
00:28:02
Speaker
And that's the hard part for me to kind of decipher because it's like, what do I expect? Because but initially I'm like, oh, don't do anything. Don't worry about it. Don't do anything. But then now it's like, oh, wait.
00:28:13
Speaker
Like, would it have been nice for my mother to host something? You know, would it have been nice to, like, go out? Like, then it's like, oh. Maybe. Yeah. Maybe I do expect something. I just didn't know.
00:28:25
Speaker
Yeah. I guess my advice for is just to prepare people with like conversations of like, this is happening. And like, um, people just, you have to get people on the same page. It's like, even for yourself, you know, like what is expectations? What do you want from them?
00:28:43
Speaker
What is going to be considered like a fail or a pass? in like your, in eyes for like your friendships and your relationships. Yeah. Because, you know, just watching like Summer became pretty, like the finale. i I watched it yesterday, but it's like, there's always some like blowout fight at the end or like someone's not being good or someone did too much, someone did too little.
00:29:07
Speaker
So um what has like, First, let's talk about why three months? Why like why why the short engagement? Ooh, I want a baby. I want a baby ASAP.
00:29:19
Speaker
And I think like friends of like you, yourself, and you're like, do it. Do it now. I'm like, yeah, okay. Like, yeah, now I'm ready. like if you I mean, I don't know if you recall, like maybe three years ago, was like, ooh, we're still trying.
00:29:33
Speaker
You know, like I'm young. But it's like I will say like, after 13 years of the industry, my body is tired, my body feels it. Yeah. So, so like, with that said, like, I'm worried of like, delaying that any longer. so I was like, we're doing it like it. And I think why not?
00:29:54
Speaker
Right? Yeah. I think the shorter amount of time to fixate, the better. i i would i would like I would say that. like though the The least you know, the better. Yeah.
00:30:07
Speaker
and yeah What you're going to get into. yeah Yeah. I mean, even now, like i'm having like I'm seeing more dress regret like like because I never heard of that saying. And now I'm like,
00:30:19
Speaker
don't look, don't look. I'm not. I had so stress regret. You can't. There's no time. Did you? And I don't regret anything. I'm just kind of like make, make it work. But oh my God. Yeah. Dress drama for sure.
00:30:32
Speaker
See? And, and, and I think as a, as a female and who's always been like overweight all my life, like I'm, I'm like, I need to be perfect. But then it's like, who's perfect near the dress, you know? Like I need, like there's a lot of pressure.
00:30:46
Speaker
self self-inflicted. I will agree. like I will attest to that. But it's kind of like that feeling around it. Yeah. So i as ah as a wedding pro, right? Like I'm feeling all of these things that i never saw or never even thought would be an issue.
00:31:02
Speaker
I will say like decisions as far as like vendors, like I jumped on that. Like I was like, like yeah within, within the second. So we fell onto a venue. um And the trip, that same trip, I was walking on the streets of like Mexico because on Sundays they close it down.
00:31:24
Speaker
Yeah. For exercise. So like there's bikers and stuff. And I told my fiance, I was like, I want to go. I want to go. He's like, no, it's like, like, you don't even know Spanish. Like I won want to relax. We have a meeting at 10. I was like, I'm going to go just for like a real quick. Don't worry. I'll be safe.
00:31:38
Speaker
Yeah. I'm walking. And I literally walked past a woman and like a couple, like it looked like, and there's a photographer. I was like, ah you excuse me, are you like do you speak English? do you Are you a photographer?
00:31:50
Speaker
She's like, no, I'm a planner. like But he's a photographer. I was like, can I get your info? I jumped on it. you know And it really fell on my lap. like This woman, saving grace.
00:32:02
Speaker
She had the patience. Yeah, I mean, you saw her working and then you're like, see my wedding? Like, I don't normally see planners during a photo shoot. You get what mean? So that, that stands out already.
00:32:16
Speaker
um But yeah, she's been amazing. And, and so, so with that, like, I think I will say like my experience shows me like how important it is to grab your vendors as soon as you can and kind of like really look into like what matters to you. It's like, is it like, if it's finances, like straight off the bat, then, then X out everybody. Right.
00:32:36
Speaker
But if it's like, it's certain personalities or certain styles. I think you need to really hone in on that and, and just be like, that's the person for me. I don't care. I want them. Wow. Yeah.
00:32:48
Speaker
Are there any like eyeopening, um, things that you experienced being on like the other side of not the lens, but like the other side of the wedding industry world that you're like, wow, I didn't know this is what they, they go through.
00:33:03
Speaker
The emotions. Yes. yeah It's 100% the emotions and and like the the feeling of of like almost sadness or or maybe not sadness, but like that internal resistance of asking for it for people, you know? Yeah.
00:33:24
Speaker
Like, that's, like, luckily, my bridal party, like, I, that has been almost like a breeze, like, they're more than willing, but it's like, kind of like the family, like, trying to make them show up. And honestly, we didn't make it easy. I will say, like, we're doing it within three months and not in America, you know? Yeah. So,
00:33:45
Speaker
asking people to show up to just the wedding hey like come to a party come to the biggest party I'll ever throw in my life yeah you know like that's the hard part like expecting extended family to show up expecting like um friends to show up it's like they can't Well, it's kind of like you're leading them to the water and, you know, it's up to them if they want to drink it type of thing. Yeah. for giving them Yeah.
00:34:11
Speaker
Information early enough. um But I was really impressed by this one, like bridal shower I went to. It was like an engagement party and she like had all her potential wedding party there. And she told them like very specific expectations, like you're going to have to pay this much for the dress. I'll pay 50 percent of it This is how much you're going to have to allocate for the budget And she was very clear and she was kind of like, take it or leave it.
00:34:35
Speaker
And I was like, damn. I never seen that good in my life. Yeah. But I was like, was so impressed by that. Giving very type A. Yeah. Giving very type A and like direct, you know, which people need sometimes.
00:34:49
Speaker
Yeah. Instead thinking, oh, like, are they mad at me? Did I ask for too much? Yada, yada. The emotions. that That's good. Like, are they a good friend? Are they not? You know, it's just um having really clear expectations and open dialogue. So.
00:35:03
Speaker
Yeah. I think pulling back, like when, ah when I'm not in the emotional state of it all, like when I pull back, it's like, I can understand it.
00:35:14
Speaker
They couldn't, you know, like, or, that you know, and it's like, it's okay. It's just the wedding. Yeah. think What is your biggest tip of like planning a wedding, like out of the country?

00:36:08
Speaker
Ooh. Well, having somebody, my fiance, speak Spanish, number one. That is good. Because, like, trying to understand and, like, living in LA, you kind of know a little bit more Spanish. And also, like, Tagalog, like, translates well into Spanish. But no matter what, they talk fast.
00:36:28
Speaker
We talk fast, right? Like, we're talking so quickly. And so having somebody be able to speak the language so that way you can navigate fast. And... and And finding a planner. I think the planner like has, it's because like I was doing it myself, like when I was looking at vendors and stuff, but then it's like now, now i'm just like, once we had got her on, um ah it was more like, oh, she gives me the options.
00:36:56
Speaker
But I will say, because again, as a as a person in the industry, having to, like having only be given three options when I'm like, well, there's other options. I know there. is Yeah.
00:37:09
Speaker
You know, because like I know the style and I know the vision. It's like, oh, I don't think I want that. Like, like kind of having to um jump that fine line between not being obnoxious and like, but still saying like what you like and you don't like. Yeah. And she's vetting for them. So it's like she knows they could deliver. So that's like a big thing. Yeah.
00:37:29
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. Ah, so interesting. Okay. So tell me about like your vision of No, I guess you can't tell me.
00:37:39
Speaker
I don't mind sharing. Okay, yeah, yeah love you envision everybody. Well, I can tell you what I initially envisioned. Okay. Because I was ah obsessed with that outdoor look. And I i came across Pinterest and like all the bridesmaids in colorful garden outfits. Yeah.
00:37:57
Speaker
Bright, bright, bold colors, which before years ago, I was like, I'm going all black or I'm going all white. You know, now I'm so over that. So I'm like happy to be able to like, I want color.
00:38:10
Speaker
by but I think we're actually going like still colorful, but like darker because of the season. Oh, interesting. Yeah. And then I was like, I was a little sad about it in the beginning. But then I'm like, actually love it. I love that deep, dark, you know, I want the drama.
00:38:27
Speaker
No matter what period, we're having drama.

Vision for a Unique Wedding Aesthetic

00:38:30
Speaker
like Yeah. So we're going like deep, dark reds. Oh, okay. At the moment, we're we're in search of candelabras.
00:38:41
Speaker
um
00:38:43
Speaker
I want that very, like, a lot of candles and lot of you know, ah drapery. Like, all the drama. And I will say. Yeah, I will say it's an on trend, too, right now. Yeah.
00:38:55
Speaker
that kind of makes it a little easy. Oh, my God. I'm, like, so excited for it. know. don't know what should I know. Because it it's, like, hat I know. It's dark. Like, drama. Anything drama. I was, I want for my bridesmaids to, like, have texture and and color and, and like, and don't know, just, I think I'm, I'm like sick of like seeing that.
00:39:19
Speaker
And I think everybody is right. Like the same colors and the same things. So I want, I want it to be bold. Yeah. But then I wonder, it's like, was the dresses I chose bold, but it's like, whatever.
00:39:33
Speaker
oh my God. Okay. Tell people, I mean, I found out about your engagement because you posted like a day in life and you ended on like crutches or like a wheelchair. It's so hilarious. But tell like the audience what your mindset is and like taking people through the journey of planning your wedding as a wedding pro, planning a wedding.
00:39:52
Speaker
um Well, now I'm going to use that as a tagline, right? As a wedding, po partydding a wedding because initially i was just saying like, hey, like this is what's happening. It's very, it's very relevant to my industry. Like take a look at it.
00:40:06
Speaker
um So my thing was just like, I'm, it's going to be very short lived. So I i want to capture as much as I can because I want to relive it myself. Yeah. And I think people are are finding it entertaining enough. It is. Yeah. you know Totally.
00:40:21
Speaker
um i I think I was a little bit overwhelmed the last few weeks. So like when I'm posting about it, it's not as in depth or as entertaining as I want it to be. Yeah. um But I'm still trying to keep up with that.
00:40:33
Speaker
Yeah. so that the thought behind it is like, I think it's relevant and it's fun. And I, and you know, because like I said, like I enjoy doing it myself. Like I, that's why I ah even offer like content creation for brides, you know, because it's like,
00:40:49
Speaker
fun yeah same same same oh yeah I mean I think it just goes into the concept like it doesn't have to be perfect like it is relevant and when it is relevant like you don't have much time to create you know look at the content you don't have hours to make like edit so it's like it's gotta of be raw real and dirty sometimes so I love it Yeah. Yay. I'm glad i got one approval.
00:41:15
Speaker
Yay. Okay. So um last question before fun rapid fire questions, but just speak to the hearts of wedding pros trying to make it in the industry, but feel like they are struggle plate right now. What would you tell them to do today to get them like motivated and inspired?
00:41:37
Speaker
today is honestly post, you know, post that little, little backstory. Like, let's say you are, you're, you're trying to either lift off your brand or even just get more inquiries. Cause right now i think we're all feeling it, right. We're feeling like how tight it's been.
00:41:58
Speaker
I think I would just, post something raw, like kind of like what you said, like say like, Hey, this is what we're dealing with, but let's get there. ah One of the, one of my favorite things to view on Tik TOK right now is like somebody's journey.
00:42:15
Speaker
Yeah. So I think even showing your journey kind of right now, like why I'm talking about my wedding, it's like, it's my journey to the finish. And like, that's captivating. That's, that's entertaining. And that's very, um,
00:42:29
Speaker
how do you, how would you say like very relatable? Yeah. Right. So I think I would just like post about it and talk about it and then, and remind people that you're there. Cause I think showing up is, is kind of like what it is.
00:42:43
Speaker
That's really well said. Making sure. and Okay. Rapid fire questions. You're like shorter, fireer shorter answers, but, um, best workflow hack. Best workflow hack is taking a lot of notes, like reminding yourself, you know i mean? You have to do this. You have to do that. It's like once you have that little thing combined, then you can jump into it or even like consolidating everything, right?
00:43:08
Speaker
Yeah. Like um today we're doing all emails and then right after that we're doing all my text messages and stuff. Yeah. Yeah. I would say just kind of like trying to combine it and consolidate.
00:43:20
Speaker
Yeah. i love that. Yeah. You said so much about like wedding tips, but like in a short answer, what is your biggest like wedding planning hack? Wedding planning hack?
00:43:32
Speaker
I would say try to get organized sooner than later. i am ah very like full of ideas. ah like Like I'm full of words. I'm full of ideas. So I've been throwing all of my notes into my phone or into a Google sheet and it was getting super chaotic. And yesterday I just asked my cousin one of my bridesmaids to like, can you organize this?
00:43:53
Speaker
And so she organized it so beautifully and I'm like, oh, now I can like get everything done. So it's like, as long as you have this master sheet of like example, right? Cause we want to do like welcome gifts.
00:44:06
Speaker
So it's like, okay, where is it going to go? When do you need to get that done by? It's just like something simple or even like look for a veil, look, whatever. Like, so I have this master list cause it's like all in my head. It's living in your head.
00:44:17
Speaker
yeah it's like, you're forgetting everything. Yeah. Everything. It's a mind of Quindy. It's like. Yeah. Yeah. So I think getting it out of your brain onto a list.
00:44:28
Speaker
Yeah. That's a good friend. Okay. um Since the hot topic is more about emotions, but um how do you emotional, all how do you handle your emotions hack?
00:44:41
Speaker
Oh, a hack. I don't know. I still deal with that. Have a good fiance. Yes. um But no, I think also like taking a step back. So it's like, I'm so overwhelmed. I'm so overwhelmed. Like, you know what? I'm going pause.
00:44:56
Speaker
So then like, even with work, like if I'm dealing with a difficult client or, or a difficult situation with a client, right? So it's not necessarily the client's difficult, but it's like, there's something that you're kind of negotiating or dealing with.
00:45:08
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Before, i would just keep pushing. and And you might make a mistake with that. So when emotions are high, you're not thinking clearly. So it's like stepping back.
00:45:19
Speaker
I'm going to take a break. I'm going to pet my dog. I'm going to walk him, watch a show, scroll through TikTok, and then come back to Yeah, I do that too for work. I'm just like, just stop and just...
00:45:30
Speaker
Smell the roses type of thing. Yeah. And I didn didn't know before because and then you're like powering through. I got to power through. It's like yeah you're not going to yield good results. Yeah. All right, Quinty. Well, this is a great conversation. I think we had a little therapy session for the last 40 minutes.
00:45:45
Speaker
I know. It's so fun. I can keep going. Let's do another episode. Yeah, just chat. And that was good for our emotions. But where can everyone find you and work with you?
00:45:59
Speaker
Ooh, they can find me on Quindy Joy everywhere. So on TikTok and on IG. And then of course my website is quindyjoy.com. But yeah they can work with me anytime. I'm available always. So just let me know. Reach out ASAP because dates do get posted.
00:46:15
Speaker
They do. Yay. Thank you, girl. No, thank you. Thank you for having me.
