Today we will continue reading the Book of Revelation, Chapters 5 and 6:1-5 and 7-17.

In today's reading John told us about the worship of Jesus and the songs being sung to praise him by the angels and the 24 leaders who are in heaven. John saw a scroll that was in God's hand. Only Jesus was found to be worthy to open the seven seals and read the scroll.

In our discussion for daily application we will talk about how the Book of Revelation is all about Jesus and His second coming to earth. Today we read about how the angels and the leaders in heaven make Jesus the most important one. We need to be worshipping, praising, and making Jesus the most important one in OUR lives, too. As we learn about the big picture this year we have learned that our physical bodies and physical lives are not what is most important. Our eternal spiritual life is what is important. We take care of that eternal life by believing in Jesus, loving Him, obeying Him, and making Him the most important one, rather than ourselves, just as we see by John's vision is being done in heaven. Jesus taught us to pray what we call, "The Lord's Prayer." Part of that prayer says, "Our Father who is in Heaven, hallowed by your name. Your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." May God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven. God's will is that we worship, love, and obey Him and His Son, Jesus.

Introduction and Overview

00:00:03
Speaker
And we're back! Today is December 23rd's Daily Reading through the Day by Day Kids Bible written by Karen Henley. My name is Robin. I'm with In the Family Way Coaching and I am so excited that I have been able to do this event with you guys this year. Thank you so much for following along with me, whether you have been joining me on your podcast or whether you've been watching the video somewhere.
00:00:31
Speaker
I am just super thrilled with this event. We have been learning so, so much. It can really be hard not to get stuck in the forest with all the trees. I know, especially as we began Revelation, i was just overwhelmed with the amount of detail because it's such a a prophetic and amazing book with so much symbolism and and like that. It's just, it's so complicated. but And I had told you that I was concerned

Purpose of Revelation

00:01:00
Speaker
about that. And I know the first day we started Revelation, I just, I felt like I was just getting stuck in all of the detail. And and i I even knew what it was, you know, what we were going to be talking about, but i just still got sidetracked by all the detail.
00:01:17
Speaker
But as we are continuing on, it is becoming obvious that, you know what? Revelation is still about Jesus.
00:01:28
Speaker
It's not just about judgment on the world.

Significance of Jesus

00:01:32
Speaker
This book is about preparing God's kingdom here on earth. Jesus is coming back. And so Jesus's kingdom is going to be prepared. Today we are going to be reading about the seals being opened on a scroll. And who is worthy? Who can open these seals?
00:01:55
Speaker
No one was found. And I'm going to be Jesus. about Jesus. going be talking about Jesus. And going be about I'm going talking about Jesus. Jesus.
00:02:17
Speaker
of or actually first three the first one was an introductory chapter so the second and third chapter we saw that there was warning issued.
00:02:28
Speaker
Jesus knows our hearts. He still knows our hearts. He isn't fooled by outward appearances, as he cautioned one church. We told that, you know, people think that you are rich and that you are doing well, but you are not.
00:02:46
Speaker
And we cannot fool him. God has always told us that he is looking at our hearts and Jesus is doing the same.
00:02:57
Speaker
So we need to be sure that we are at the heart of worshiping Jesus.

Reading and Interpreting the Seals

00:03:04
Speaker
So as we read the book of Revelation, we are seeing the earth being prepared to receive Jesus for his second coming.
00:03:16
Speaker
But before we get into that today, we are going to take out our bookmarking commitment calendar here and get ready to cross off our day for December 23rd because we're about to read the Bible today.
00:03:32
Speaker
We are going to be covering Revelation chapters five and six today. And as I mentioned, we are going to be reading about scroll a scroll and the seven seals that are on it.
00:03:49
Speaker
So as we left off yesterday, John was viewing heaven. Oh, such an amazing sight to be up in the heavenly court.
00:04:02
Speaker
It says in yesterday's reading that the 24 leaders bowed down in front of the king. This is God. And they worshiped the one who lives for forever and ever.
00:04:15
Speaker
They put their crowns down in front of him. And the leaders say, you are our Lord and our God. Nothing is better than you.
00:04:27
Speaker
Your greatness shines. And we show how important you are. You have power. You made everything.
00:04:38
Speaker
You wanted to. So all things were made, and they are what they are because of you. Amen. John goes on in chapter 5 to say, Then i saw something in the king's right hand.
00:04:57
Speaker
It was a rolled-up paper called a scroll. Both sides of the paper had writing on them. Seven pieces of wax kept the paper rolled up and closed.
00:05:13
Speaker
Those seven pieces of wax are called seals. Then I saw a strong angel. He called out loudly, Who is good enough to break the wax seals?
00:05:29
Speaker
Who is good enough to open the scroll? But nobody was good enough. Nobody in heaven or on earth was good enough.
00:05:41
Speaker
They weren't even good enough to look inside. And so I cried and I cried. Then one of the leaders said to me, don't cry.

Unfolding Events and Worship

00:05:54
Speaker
See, Jesus is good enough. He is called the Lion of Judah. He is called the Root of King David.
00:06:06
Speaker
He has won over sin, and he can open the wax seals and the scroll.
00:06:17
Speaker
Then I saw a lamb. He looked like he had been killed. He was standing in the middle by the king's throne, and the four living beings and the leaders were around him.
00:06:31
Speaker
He had seven horns, and he had seven eyes. They were God's seven spirits and the seven spirits go through the whole earth.
00:06:46
Speaker
The lamb came and took the paper scroll from the king. Then the four living beings and the 24 leaders bowed down. They bowed down in front of Jesus, the lamb.
00:07:03
Speaker
Each one of them had a harp. and each one held a golden bowl. a sweet smell came from each bowl.
00:07:16
Speaker
It was the prayers of God's people.
00:07:22
Speaker
i just wanted to interject there. Our prayers are the incense in the bowls in heaven, and they are a sweet smell.
00:07:34
Speaker
Your prayers are part of that sweet smell. Isn't that amazing? Our prayers are a sweet smell to God.
00:07:50
Speaker
Continuing on, the leader sang a new song. You are good enough to open the wax seals on the paper.
00:08:01
Speaker
It's because you were killed. You bought people for God. You bought them from every nation and every language.
00:08:13
Speaker
You bought them from every group. You made them into a kingdom. You made them God's servants and they will rule on the earth.
00:08:28
Speaker
Then I looked around. i heard many angels' voices. There must have been thousands and thousands, 10,000 times 10,000. Wow, that's a lot of angels.
00:08:44
Speaker
They went around the king and the beings and the leaders. The angels sang loudly, Jesus is good enough.
00:08:56
Speaker
He was killed, so now he has power. He has riches. He is wise. We worship him.
00:09:08
Speaker
His greatness shines. We praise him.
00:09:14
Speaker
Then I heard all of the living beings in heaven and on earth. I heard all the living beings under the earth. I heard all the living beings in the sea.
00:09:27
Speaker
They were singing. We worship the King and Jesus, the Lamb. We praise them. Their greatness shines.
00:09:40
Speaker
They have power forever and ever. The four beings said, Yes! Amen!
00:09:50
Speaker
and then the leaders bowed down, and they worshiped the King and the Lamb.
00:09:59
Speaker
I watched, and Jesus opened the first wax seal. Then one of the four living beings said, Come!
00:10:11
Speaker
His voice sounded like thunder, so I looked. And there in front of me was a white horse. The rider of the horse was holding a bow and arrow, and a crown was given to him.
00:10:28
Speaker
He rode out and he went like a strong fighter planning to win.
00:10:36
Speaker
Jesus opened the second seal. The second living being said, come. And another horse came out.
00:10:47
Speaker
He was red like fire. And the rider of this horse had power. He could take earth's peace away.
00:10:59
Speaker
He had power to make people kill each other. A big sword was given to him.
00:11:08
Speaker
Jesus opened the third seal. The third living being said, Come! And a black horse passed in front of me.
00:11:20
Speaker
The rider of this horse had scales to weigh things on.
00:11:27
Speaker
Jesus opened the fourth seal. The fourth living being said, come, and a light colored horse stood in front of me.
00:11:39
Speaker
The rider of this horse was named Death. He had power to kill.
00:11:50
Speaker
He could do it in one out of every four parts of the earth. He could kill some with a sword and some by hunger. He could kill some by sickness and some by wild animals.
00:12:07
Speaker
Then Jesus opened the fifth seal. I saw the souls of people who had been killed. They were killed because they believed in God.
00:12:20
Speaker
They had kept telling about God until the very end. The souls were under the altar. They called out loudly, How long will it be, Lord?
00:12:34
Speaker
How long until you judge people on the earth? How long before you pay them back for killing us? Then they were given white clothes and they were told to wait a while.

Centrality of Jesus in Life

00:12:51
Speaker
Jesus opened the sixth seal. The earth shook. The sun turned black. The moon turned as red as blood.
00:13:02
Speaker
The stars fell from the sky to the earth. They fell like figs that were blown off of a tree by the wind. And the sky rolled up like a scroll.
00:13:15
Speaker
Mountains and islands were pushed out of place. The kings and princes her hid in caves. And rich and powerful people hid.
00:13:28
Speaker
Servants and free people hid in rocky mountains, and they even cried out to the mountains. Fall on top of us, they cried, and hide us from the king's face. Hide us from Jesus's anger.
00:13:44
Speaker
it is the great day of their anger, and no one can stand up against them.
00:13:52
Speaker
That is the end of our reading today.
00:13:59
Speaker
Wow. So what we are seeing is Jesus's power. He alone is worthy. He is worthy of our love.
00:14:11
Speaker
He is worthy of our praise. He is worthy of our worship for us to bow down and make him the most important one in our lives.
00:14:24
Speaker
The heavenly court makes him the most important one in their lives, and we also need to be doing the same. Jesus alone was worthy to open the scroll, to remove each wax seal one by one.
00:14:44
Speaker
Revelation is about Jesus and him getting the earth ready for his return. The earth will be judged and there will be a great tribulation before all of that happens.
00:15:00
Speaker
But Jesus has told us yesterday that those who are faithful to him to the end, they will even be spared the great trial that will be coming.
00:15:14
Speaker
We read about that yesterday.
00:15:19
Speaker
When Jesus wrote the letter to the church in Philadelphia, he said, you obeyed me. You waited quietly and kept believing in me. So I will save you from the trouble that is coming.
00:15:34
Speaker
Everyone on earth at that time will have hard times that test them. I am coming soon, he told them. Hold on to what you believe.
00:15:47
Speaker
And then nobody will take away your crown. Keep following me no matter what. And then you will be like strong posts in God's worship place.
00:15:58
Speaker
And you can live there forever. I will write God's name on you. And I will write the name of God's city. It is the new Jerusalem.
00:16:09
Speaker
And it will come down from God in heaven.
00:16:14
Speaker
Jesus tells us to listen to what the Spirit tells the churches. So we know that there will be those who have who will be saved from that time, and that everyone else on the earth will have difficult times that will be testing them.
00:16:31
Speaker
And we read today that there will be many different things happening, such as death, with peace being taken away from the land. There will be hunger.
00:16:42
Speaker
There is lots of judgment that is going on that we are reading about. When Jesus sent out the the six horses there with the seals,
00:16:56
Speaker
And we saw also that there are souls under the altar in heaven that are the souls of the people who were killed because they kept standing firm in their faith and they were still killed and they did not to turn away from Jesus, not even to the very end.
00:17:18
Speaker
And they are waiting for Jesus to avenge them. And Jesus gave them white clothes. Let's see, where are we with that?
00:17:34
Speaker
They were given white clothes and they were told to wait a while. Wow.
00:17:41
Speaker
It's all about Jesus. So we need to be sure that we are making Jesus the most important one and worshiping him.
00:17:51
Speaker
and loving him and honoring him and praising him, not just today, but every day, making Jesus the most important one in our lives.
00:18:03
Speaker
And that is our daily application today.
00:18:09
Speaker
It can be scary when we think about all of those things happening, but we need to remember that Jesus will take care of us. No matter who is still here, they need to remember if you are hearing this at that time and you have found this reading, to be firm and stay strong in Jesus because he is your only hope for salvation, for eternal life.
00:18:34
Speaker
As we are looking at the big picture, we know that our physical body is not what is important. It is our eternal spiritual life that is important.
00:18:46
Speaker
That is the big picture we have been learning this year. So no matter whether you are in today's day of 2025 and we are simply reading about it or whether this is being listened to in the future and you are experiencing it, either way, the big picture is the same.
00:19:07
Speaker
The most important thing is to worship and love Jesus, to praise him, to love him because he loves you.
00:19:18
Speaker
And we need to make him the most important one in our lives, the same way that we see being done in the heavenly court. And what is done on in heaven, may it also be done on earth, just the way Jesus taught us with what we call the Lord's Prayer.
00:19:38
Speaker
May God's kingdom come and his will be done on earth as it is in heaven. God's will is being done in heaven.
00:19:48
Speaker
May it also always be done on earth as well.
00:19:54
Speaker
Well, I hope that you are having a fantastic day, getting ready for Christmas. We are almost at Christmas. It is December 23rd. So I hope that you are excited for this holiday as we celebrate the birth of our Savior, the one that we are reading about for as we celebrate his first arrival on the earth.
00:20:16
Speaker
His second arrival will be just as amazing. ad During in Jesus's first arrival, we know that he was heralded by angels, that angels appeared in the sky before those shepherds and that they announced his birth.
00:20:33
Speaker
And when Jesus comes again, it will also be announced with the great shofar of heaven, the great trumpet that will blow. and that will also be very exciting and I think a scary time.
00:20:47
Speaker
But I hope that as we are celebrating this Christmas that we remember that Jesus is the reason for this season. And I hope that you have a very blessed holiday as you remember our Lord and Savior and that you remember to worship him not just at Christmastime, but at every day throughout the year.
